What would happen to Filipino jeepney drivers and commuters if this is taken away by the Philippine government in the middle of the pandemic?
Jeepneys are shared taxis that date back to the American colonial era and are usually abbreviated as “AC.” In the 1930s, these morphed into adapted imported cars with attached carriages that operated as low-cost passenger utility vehicles in Manila. During WWII, most of these vehicles were lost.
The national phase-out of jeepney could make the condition of jeepney and pandemic drivers worse. KPKL- SHS calls for everyone to unite with the drivers who are exposed to local and international exploitation, longer working hours, and higher debts! Now is the time to put a stop to Jeepney Modernization! _
