The fact that Daenerys’ novella “blood of the dragon” was published in July 1996 and AGOT was published August 1996 which means she won GRRM a Hugo Award, the most prestigious literary award in science fiction and fantasy, before ASOIAF was an existing series.. yeah def don’t compare your flop faves to her.

They declared the Sandman season ineligible for dramatic presentation long form under 3.8.3 ("If any series and a subset series thereof both receive sufficient nominations to appear on the final ballot, only the version which received more nominations shall appear.")

Presumably this was because a Sandman episode being nominated for dramatic presentation short form but they then declared the episode ineligible without clarifying why.

I don't watch the show but googling it looks like the episode was released in 2022 so I can't see why it wouldn't be eligible.

The novella "A Psalm for the Wild-Built" by Becky Chambers was published for the first time in 2021. It's the first book in the Monk & Robot series. It won the Hugo Award for best novella of the year.

Sibling Dex is a tea monk who sought a spiritual life. They still feel a certain dissatisfaction but can't understand what they need. They decide to change their travel routine by venturing on paths different from the ones they usually take, where humans let nature grow wild again.

i am sorry buds but it has to be said: lots of talk about the 2023 hugo awards being fraudulent because of actions of leader dave mccarty. this is true. but if we are going to be REALLY honest there is a difficult truth to accept, ANY past hugos dave ran are likely fraudulent

i do not want to have to say this as it casts a lot of doubt and i honestly do not think there is any action that needs to be taken, we should keep trotting along and give credit to winners, but it should at least be addressed. THIS DOES NOT JUST HAPPEN ONCE, IT GETS NOTICED ONCE

just went back into old emails and dave was IN FACT in charge of both the years i was nominated. will i ever know if there is any legitimacy to those results? was it politically best for me to be nominated but MAKE SURE i dont win? who the heck knows.

of course i am not saying my trot is MORE DESERVING or BETTER than the winners these year (and like i said we should respect these results), but acting as though actions of dave and the committee only effect 2023 seems a little short sighted i am sorry to say. it is much much worse

heres the thing that really bothers me when scoundrels treat outsiders and marginalized buds like this (same feeling i got from texas library banning) CHUCK is suddenly the one who has to wrestle with 'should i speak on this? will i ever be nominated again for ANY award now?' It’s so embarrassing for Daenerys’ haters that the only Hugo Award GRRM has won for ASOIAF is for his Daenerys centric novellas. The Starks have 6 POV characters and 162 chapters, and yet “the heart of the story” couldn’t win GRRM what Daenerys has. Same for the Lannisters (3 POV characters, 78 chapters) and the Greyjoys (4 POV characters, 26 chapters).

Tee hee. I imagine that Dany's chapters supplied that wonder, heart, tragedy, etc. as well as thrills that other chapters don't have as much. It must be so embarrassing to not see which character pays in GRRM's bills and keep his beard clean.

A lot of people might counter with Dany being the only Targ left and needing the "extra" stuff about her family bc they're all dead, whereas the others' families continue to actively move the narrative forward. Honey, Dany's chapters has some of the most poignant and intense political intrigue of the entire series! Magical, too,, and the magic adds/shapes the story alongside Bran's. In political intrigue, only the Lannisters and Ironborn Greyjoys really are coming close to Dany.

Or that Dany's family were the ruling family and that it'd only make sense to write thema all up bc if you do, you inevitably explain the rest of Westeros...um, we still only got details about non Targ houses when they were connected to Targs intimately! And all really to center her!

Whatever, Dany herself is defined by her intuitive beauty. Haters can die mad.
