Huawei launched its full-view display smartphone Huawei Y7 Prime 2018 with the dual-camera on the back. It comes as a successor to the last year’s Y7 Prime but as we have mentioned earlier, it steps down on some features with much lower price tag.
Costing PKR 19,999/- or (~USD 175), the Y7 Prime 2018 lies among the entry-level Android smartphones. This surely is an attractive price if you just take it as a newer model to some last year’s model of certain phone. But the company did some manipulation to derive your decision on buying this phone.
It gets the new trendy full-view display with wider aspect ratio and narrow bezels around the screen. That’s what you see when you first look at it, and that’s exactly the first impression. Frankly, it wins your mind’s state of buying. But just take a look at it if you have a plan to buy this next model of your existing Y7 Prime.
First of all, here it is the exploded version of (not the phone itself but) the phone’s packaging.
Y7 Prime 2018 comes in a simple airtight white box with popup out style. What you get in the box are pretty much standard items – the charger, the USB cable and the earphones.
Among some firms, Huawei is also one that gives you two additional things usually in a retail package – the back cover and a protective film. Not so special, it’s a transparent silicon back cover but it indeed is the demand of most smartphone buyers today. You may not  prefer to use covers and screen protective films or tempered glass, but others might do. So offering these two things as bundled items in a retail box should always be appreciative.
This transparent silicon cover has some gradient pattern as well which gives a nice and eye-catching visuals.
Now looking at the back of the phone, let’s just start from the rear elements first.
Huawei Y7 Prime 2018 as some upgrades over the last year’s Y7 Prime – Rear dual-camera is the one. It’s a pair of 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel camera along with a dual-tone LED flash. The dual-cam configuration allows you to take nice looking portraits or any photo with blurred background (aka bokeh effect). The secondary 2MP camera is there to support that feature specially. During the first run, I felt that, that’s it with the camera features. I couldn’t find more of them, there in the native camera user interface. But we’ll see later how does it perform in the wild.
Then right there, the fingerprint scanner is on my preferred place – rear-middle location for perfect reach of your index finger. The performance of the sensor seems to be as good as other Huawei smartphones (low-end or mid-range of course) but Y7 Prime seems to catch some delay if it’s running a load of apps.
So, the delay – why that’s so? Well, we talked about some downgrades, right? It’s probably the processor. Huawei didn’t upgrade the processor in this successor model. In fact the company didn’t even keep it intact. They instead downgraded it a little bit.
Y7 Prime 2018 is powered by the Snapdragon 430 SoC which should not be so different than the 435 of last year’s Y7 Prime. But it sure is an older model of the processor. But this entry-level processor does impact on the performance of some features – such as this fingerprint scanner at the least.
Coming on the front of the phone, the 2018 edition of Y7 Prime joins the league of wider aspect ratio displays. That also comes with little narrowed down bezels. Not as narrow as many others have brought to the market but it’s significantly narrower than its predecessor.
The display resolution remains intact at 720p but with little more pixels vertically as the aspect ratio is wider on this model – it’s 2:1 (or 18:9 more familiar) as compared to the standard 16:9 aspect ratio of Y7 Prime. This all technical thing adds exactly 160 pixels to the wider side of the display. It’s now 1440×720 display resolution on a 6-inch screen that serves at the pixel density of ~269ppi. Now that’s only a little difference if compared to the 267ppi of original Y7 Prime.
So technically, the sharpness will remain similar to what you used to get on Y7 Prime, though a slightly larger display in a quite similar sized phone is sure a plus-point.
The top bezel on the front hosts those same components you usually see on every smartphone – the front-facing camera, an earpiece and some hidden sensors. Plus you get a soft-LED flash on Y7 Prime 2018.
On the other side, the lower bezel has the “HUAWEI” branding while the standard Android navigation is right above there on the screen.
Though it’s all plastic but built nicely like every other manufacturer has now reached the level building plastic mimicking well as metal. Y7 Prime has just the same matte finish on the back.  The camera module is little raised above the base panel.
The most appealing part is “the sides” of the phone. It’s glossy finish is nice but also prone to catching fingerprints. You can clean them tough. The power and volume buttons are on the right side.
The phone has a 3.5mm audio jack and a loud speaker on the bottom side. As well, expectedly the phone only has a micro USB connectivity.
The bad thing is that the phone doesn’t support fast charging and comes only with a 1 ampere standard charger.
Users who hate replacing one of the SIM cards with a micro SD card would love to have them all in the Y7 Prime 2018. It’s not a hybrid SIM slot and you can place two SIM cards and a memory card all at once without giving up on one thing.
Coming over at the software side, َY7 Prime 2018 gives you a punch of Android 8.0 Oreo software out-of-the-box. The most recent and up to date software is always welcomed. The phone gets quick upgrade after the first start and is currently, at the time of writing, it’s running at March 1st security patch.
Another downgrade in the phone is the battery capacity. Unlike the original Y7 Prime’s 4000 mAh, the new 2018 edition has a significantly low battery capacity of 3000 mAh. It’s up to the software optimization how well the battery live up to the usage. We’ll test that during our detailed review coming in the following days. Keep an eye over it. For now, you can compare the new Y7 Prime 2018 with the original Y7 Prime to review all the ins and outs.
Huawei Y7 Prime 2018 – Unboxing and First Impressions Huawei launched its full-view display smartphone Huawei Y7 Prime 2018 with the dual-camera on the back. It comes as a successor to the last year's Y7 Prime but as we have mentioned earlier, it steps down on some features with much lower price tag.

Huawei has a long range of devices targeting almost all ages and all budget levels. One of those ranges is the Y-series that has been considered among lower mid-range category. But with the launch a new new Huawei Y7 Prime 2018, it seems they moved the model to further down at an entry-level category.
While the original Y7 Prime of last year costed Rs. 25,000, the new model cost only PKR 20,000/- At this point, I actually appreciate the company for decreasing a price significantly for a newer model. But They actually have protected themselves as well from a loss. They didn’t only added new features but also degraded some components which could have allowed them to put lower price tag.
The thing is, for that 5000 rupees lower price tag, will you get something as really an upgrade? That’s what for we are here to tell.
The Y7 Prime 2018 didn’t let us down with its first impression as it brought quite a nice upgrades to its look and feel. Additionally there is dual-camera for a fun photography which may be an interest for many of you. We’ll check them all here and see if they are worth the price.
Let just go through the features of Y7 Prime 2018. The phone comes with 6-inch HD+ 18:9 FullView display and 2.5D curved glass. The phone features Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 Octa-core Mobile Platform along with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage.

Positives and Negatives

Dual-camera with Bokeh
Dedicated micro SD card slot
No scratch resistance
Slow fingerprint/face ID
Low battery capacity
Let’s have a look what we get in the retail package.
Unboxing
Tumblr media
Y7 Prime 2018 comes in a simple white box with popup out style. The retail box has pretty much everything you usually have with a new smartphone but it brings some more things such as a back cover and a screen protective film
The device: Y7 Prime 2018
Stereo earphones
Micro USB cable
Travel charger (5V-1A)
User guide and manua
Transparent silicone back cover
Screen protective film
Build, Design and Display
Huawei has been making good quality phones in almost all price ranges. Y7 Prime 2018 is also something to appreciate for its build and quality. Design wise it’s not that much different from any other smartphone, specially at first impression it looks more like the Mate 10 lite.
Y7 Prime 2018 features a 5.99-inch screen with 2.5D curved glass on top. Huawei didn’t mention if the screen has a scratch resistant glass but it sure does not have oleophobic coating. Really not sure why Huawei doesn’t choose to to make it less fingerprint prone. Once it catches the fingerprints, you will spend a lot of time cleaning it or have to wipe it with wet cloth. That’s actually the bad thing I always tell about mid-range devices from Huawei.
The resolution sticks to 1440 by 720 pixels. I usually don’t object on this resolution as long as the screen size is smaller. But when they make a large screen like six inches, they need to take care of the resolution as well. It leaves you with less sharp content. The pixel density is around 269ppi which is not that great for sure.
The good thing is the wider aspect ratio of 18:9 which is just according to trend and has its own objectives to show content in more space. The feature is not available to all apps by default, however a button is provided to expand the app if applicable.
Size of the phone isn’t that compact as with the larger screen size than its predecessor, the Y7 Prime 2018 is still a 5 cm larger vertically. Thanks to the expanded display that we have larger screen to body ratio of around 76%.
Now that we are talking about the front side, the top bezel has all those standard sensors, the earpiece in the middle, the front camera on the left side side and a soft LED flash on the right which is not so visible.
Y7 Prime 2018 has an 8-megapixel camera on the front. The phone sports standard sensors to run basic functions of a smartphone that include ambient light and proximity sensors inside the top bezel. Additionally the phone has a compass and gravity sensor which are not usually visible. No special sensors like gyroscope are there.
So you should take it in mind that you won’t be able to have fun with virtual reality content. If you are truly looking for an entry-level smartphone for such a price, I believe you should have had it in mind. We can wait until a company bring those special features to entry-level.
The bottom bezel has only a Huawei branding printed and there are no capacitive keys for navigation. The software based on-screen navigation buttons are provided.
Power and volume buttons are on the right side as usually they are on most smartphones. The left side of the phone hosts the slot for dual-SIM cards and a micro SD card. It’s not a hybrid one but can serve with both the SIM cards and micro SD card simultaneously.
Top side of the phone is clean and doesn’t have anything. Everything is on the bottom – a 3.5mm audio jack, micro USB port, a loudspeaker and a mouthpiece.
The most attractive part of the phone design is its sides. Though the glossy finish on the sides of the phone is too good to look at, it’s also prone to catching fingerprints. But that’s also the case with the display, so it’s still better not so visible on the glossy sides and you can clean them too.
If you are assuming those shiny sides to be some kind of premium metal, then don’t. It’s plastic, and so is the whole body. However they mimic as a metal very well as you don’t really need it to be metal for price you are spending on it.
The build quality is really good as always been the case with Huawei devices. It’s not that plastic we have previously seen on older galaxies. The device we got here for review is the Black variant that has a matte finish.
Those polished and rounded edges of the phone help to grip easily. Handling is fine and comfortable with 155 grams of the phone’s weight and 7.8mm thickness.
Coming to the back of the phone, there is a pair of 13-megapixel camera and a 2-megapixel camera. The dual camera has a support of single LED flash enclosed into a horizontal module raised above the base panel. Dual-camera does impress on paper, but we’ll see if this actually compete better in its price range.
Just to the right of the camera module, there is a secondary microphone for noise cancellation. That mic also helps in recording dual-channel audio.
Below the camera in the middle, that’s the fingerprint scanner on my preferred place. That’s a perfect placement for your index finger to reach. As long as I used it on regular basis, the fingerprint seemed to work just as it would in any other Huawei smartphone. However, sometime a rare delay proved that it’s running a low-end processor.
Software and Performance
Huawei Y7 Prime 2018 runs Android 8.0 Oreo with custom software skin on top – EMUI 8.0. That’s another upgrade but it can also be shipped to Y7 Prime as it’s just a software. However, it indeed has its quality features over the previous versions which you can’t overlook
First of all, you get kind launchers, one the Huawei’s traditional app launcher which has a clean home screens with app icons and folders. The other one is a more common launcher with an app drawer. By default it comes with the Huawei’s traditional launcher, while the app drawer mode can be enabled from settings. Choose as it suits you but this feature has been there since EMUI 5.1 and is available in devices running Android 7.1.
Software features like Eye Comfort with manual display temperature override has always been a plus point. Phone Manager is also good to have important things like system optimization, data and traffic management, harassment filter for restricting numbers to call you or send you text.
EMUI 8 has a very organised behavior of user experience, taking from the pull-down notifications to the phone management.
Fingerprint Scanner
The fingerprint scanner on Y7 Prime 2018 is no different than other mid-range Huawei devices. With the first start, registering fingerprints is fast like always but with time and continuous use of the phone makes the scanner less faster. Take the reason of having an entry-level processor that can’t keep up with the long run usage of the phone. A reset may help in this regard but with a fresh start.
System Performance
The vital function of a smartphone is always its performance and that comes from the core of it. Y7 Prime 2018 is powered by a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430 chipset with octa-core processor. All the eight cores of ARM’s Cortex A53 are clocked at up to 1.4GHz. The chip is also bundled with Adreno 505 GPU. The phone comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which is really a good thing for an entry-level smartphone to fulfil today’s tasks. It’s more a similar bundle as we have recently reviewed Infinix S3.
Considering regular usage, the performance was left no reservation for day to day use. Basic gaming and some mid-level 3D games were also good but don’t expect them to run fluently. You shouldn’t expect anything better than an entry-level smartphone.
Benchmark scores can tell you where it stands among its class. Y7 Prime 2018 ran through Geekbench 4, AnTuTu 7, Vellamo, Basemark OS II and Basemark ES3.1. You can check the following scores in respective order.
It’s impressive that Huawei has done better with a lower version of the chipset than in last year’s Y7 Prime as the scores are significantly higher than its predecessor.
Geekbench 4
AnTuTu 7
GFX Bench
Vellamo, Basemark OS II, Basemark ES 3.1
Battery Performance
One downgrade from the predecessor is its battery and it’s huge jump-down from a 4000 mAh to a 3000mAh battery. However we have seen the phone run progressively, may be due to an upgraded and well optimised software. So we can keep our negative point with us for now as the lower battery capacity didn’t actually create a major trouble.
A full charge may give a up to 15 hours with moderate usage that does not include heavy gaming, GPS navigation or long video playbacks. Connectivity via Wi-Fi or 4G may also differ the battery timing. Good thing is that the Huawei’s Ultra Power saving is present in Y7 Prime 2018.
Camera
An upgrade of the few in Huawei Y7 Prime 2018 is its camera. The phone comes with a dual-camera setup like most recent releases. It has a 13-megapixel main camera along with the support of a 2MP camera for depth mapping. It helps the system to produce photos by distinguishing background from the foreground. You mostly know the element as “Bokeh”, that’s the effect today these dual-camera smartphone try to mimic by the software algorithms instead of optical components in dedicated cameras.
Where I am not impressed is the Camera UI on this smartphone. It’s like Huawei really didn’t want to give it a go with all that featureful camera interface in Huawei’s other smartphones. I am not sure either what caused them to hold those features, as the system is running on the latest software as well as that entry-level chipset also have support for most camera features.
Well, Huawei seemed to just put it on the slot to distinguish it a bit from its mid-range counterparts. That’s not a positive thing though – I’m not impressed.
Here is it. The first viewfinder with flash, aperture mode, beauty mode and front/rear camera switch. Then on the left page, you get a limited set of modes with photo, video, HDR, Panorama, Filter and Watermark. Settings are pretty much similar offering a rear-used set of options with resolution.
Let’s just move on and check the camera quality.
Picture Quality
Daylight shots were decent with well controlled colors and noise is controlled. Sometimes the images came soft but mostly they were well focused. Distant leaves and grass usually smudge and doesn’t give a cooler look when looked at 1:1 shot.
For this price range, the dynamic range is good but it’s not so good at controlling harsh contrast and came up with clipped highlights. The bad thing is that its HDR feature is just like as it’s not really there. We’d hardly see a difference in a photo with and without HDR enabled.
For this entry-level smartphone, low-light shots were mostly similar to what many other smartphones have have done in this price range. It, however maintained the colors accurately, edges of the subjects continued to remain soft. For nearer subjects you could use flash which usually works fine but overexposes the subject at occasions.
The most impressive thing in the camera is its aperture mode that controls bokeh effect on the background. It indeed is a good thing for fun and share beautiful portraits in your social network. For those who didn’t know, it blurs out the background to distinct a foreground subject in the image.

Aperture/Bokeh Mode
[slickr-flickr search=”sets” set=”72157666363883327″]
Front Camera
The phone has an 8-megapixel camera on the front which has is fixed focus image sensor. Where now a days every other smartphone is offering bokeh mode on selfies, yet it’s software based and not so appealing but it does look different than a flat picture. Unfortunately, being a dual-camera on the back side and having an aperture mode for rear camera, the Y7 Prime 2010 doesn’t have the feature for front camera. There is a beauty mode however.
[slickr-flickr search=”sets” set=”72157668628852108″]
Panorama
[slickr-flickr search=”single” photo_id=”27916954438″]
The phone can record up to 1080p video footage at 30 frames per second. We didn’t have a sample for that. The review will be updated once the footage is ready to publish.
Conclusion and Verdict
Even though found some features which are the good ones for an entry-level smartphone but remains an entry-level smartphone. Considering the price factor, if we don’t go far, there is the Infinix Hot S3 which was launched just around the same time as Y7 Prime 2018.
With the exact price tag and very similar core hardware components, Y7 Prime 2018 brings you a dual-camera setup. Still the picture quality from its camera isn’t that good to have significant lead over Hot S3 but Y7 Prime 2018’s camera brings some bright and more realistic colors to the scene. On the other hand you get a bokeh effect with Y7 Prime’s camera so it indeed has a plus point in that department.
Other significant factor is lower battery capacity of 3000mAh as the Hot S3 shipped with the 4000mAh. There is indeed a big difference in practical use but its sure depends, how aggressive usage of a smartphone you have. Y7 Prime can still serve you better if you are a moderate user.
The hardware on a device worth Rs. 20,000, is also currently the best you can get. That 720p display and Snapdragon 430 are sure for entry-level smartphones, so you don’t have anything to abuse unless another competitor brings a better option in that price tag.
Or you can add around 5000 in your budget and get a better model Huawei Y9 2018, that is most similar to Mate 10 Lite as a mid-range performer with Kirin 659 processor and four cameras as well as a large 4000mAh battery.
Photo Gallery
Huawei Y7 Prime 2018 Review Huawei has a long range of devices targeting almost all ages and all budget levels. One of those ranges is the Y-series that has been considered among lower mid-range category.

Vivo launched its budget smartphone Vivo Y91C last month in Pakistan and we got it just recently and here is the full review of the phone.
The Y91C comes with very basic set of features, you might need to start using a smartphone. But the quality elements follow in this phone from the company. This phone costs PKR 18,999 PKR 19,999 in Pakistan, that’s around USD 143.
Update: The price of this phone has been increased during recent price hikes. The phone now costs PKR 19,999.
Let’s have quick look at the specifications and features of the Vivo Y91C.
Quick Features and Specifications
Realme C1 SoC Chip: MediaTek Helio P22 – MT6762R CPU: 8x Cortex-A53 2.0GHz GPU: PowerVR GE8320 Memory 2GB RAM + 32GB Storage microSD card dedicated slot (up to 256GB) OS / Software Android 8.1 Oreo / Funtouch OS 4.5 Display 6.22-inch IPS LCD – Full-incell 1520×720 HD+ resolution, 19:9, Pixel density: ~271 ppi Screen-to-body ratio: ~88% Rear Camera 13MP, PDAF, f/2.2 lens aperture LED flash, bokeh mode, 720p/1080p video recording at 30fps Front Camera 5MP, f/1.8 Battery 4030 mAh Charger included with retail package: 5V/1A Size/Weight 155.11 x 75.09 x 8.28 mm / 163.5 grams Sensors Accelerometer, Proximity, Ambient light, E-Compass, Virtual Gyroscope Connectivity WiFi: 802.11 b/g/n, 2.4GHz WiFi Tethering, WiFi Direct, Personal Hotspot Bluetooth: 5, GPS/AGPS, FM Radio, USB 2.0 micro USB Color Options Fusion Black,Ocean Blue,Sunset Red
There are three color options to choose from Fusion Black, Ocean Blue, Sunset Red. The red one is what we got here which really couldn’t be a choice for boys. In fact some girls may also prefer to choose the Blue or Black variants than the Red/Pink variant.
As you know this phone comes with MediaTek’s Helio P22, the entry-level processor. There are two other variants Vivo had but didn’t bring to Pakistan. The one was initially launched with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 439, a fingerprint sensor, and some other memory configurations. The second was launched with the same Helio P22 chip but better memory configurations and a fingerprint sensor. The company launched a third variant with P22 without a fingerprint sensor.
So as you have noticed from the pictures above, the one we have here is the third one – without the fingerprint sensor.
Unboxing of Vivo Y91C
As Vivo doesn’t bother to ship earphones within the retail packaging of Y-series, the Y91C also lacks it. The phone ships with only a power charger and a micro USB cable. Let’s just count the factory-applied screen protector and an add-on silicone back cover.

Build and Design
Occupying a space in entry-level segment, the Vivo Y91C comes with full plastic body.As you know plastic is always prone to attract scratches far quicker if not covered with a back case. But why would you even think about that when you are buying a cheaper phone? You won’t get anything better in this price.
So what we can talk about a plastic material, is the build quality. How does the company makes a plastic phone and how good does it looks in hands. Apart from the red color, I liked the not-so-thicker profile of Y91C but it may have more compact if the company used a smaller display.
The mid-frame is also plastic and joins right between the screen frame and the back panel. There is nothing on the back apart from the VIVO branding in the middle and a tiny camera on the corner with an LED flash.
Components and Ports
The Vivo Y91C has a common layout of components and ports as we usually see on other phones. micro USB port is on the bottom of the phone along with the speaker grill.
#gallery-0-20 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-20 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-20 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-20 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
The audio jack is also on the bottom and the top side of the phone is completely plain. There isn’t even a secondary mic for noise cancellation.
The power button and the volume buttons are on the right side of the phone, while on the other side the SIM slot is available.
#gallery-0-21 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-21 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-21 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-21 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
It’s not a hybrid SIM slot and you won’t need to worry about choosing between a SIM card or a memory card. Instead you can use all – a microSD card alongside two SIM slots.
Weighing 164 grams, this phone doesn’t feel much heavy in hands. However the size of the phone may not be an appealing thing for many. Slim bezels have helped the phone stay quite within limits though.
The phone is only 0.2mm thicker than Huawei Y7 Prime 2019, but Y91C has narrow overall profile with thinner bezels around.
Display
Vivo Y91C follows the 2018’s most trendy feature. Yet tiny, but it still comes with a display notch. It’s dew-drop style notch that only house a front facing camera in it. Vivo calls it a Halo FullView display.
It’s 6.22-inch large screen with FullView bezel-less experience. The front still has a bit larger chin. The display resolution keeps at 720p which is an ideal resolution for lower-end phone with low performing processor. While delivering content at pixel density of 217ppi, the phone has a screen-to-body ratio of 88.6% approximately, according to official document.
IPS display is better with Full-incell technology. it’s vivid but not sharp due to low-resolution on a large display. That’s the second reason I’d love to recommend any smartphone that has a 720p resolution but also has a screen size of at most 5.8-inch. That would give you a compact profile as well as a sharp content.
But just keep it real, these phones now don’t come with any thing lesser than 6-inch. Probably because you (the people) love to have larger screens no matter what on what resolution. Do you? let us know in the comments below.
Software and UI
Vivo Y91C runs Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box with the proprietary Funtouch OS 4.5 software layer on top. This interface doesn’t have any app drawer but an only home screens as app launcher.
Like previous iterations, Funtouch 4.5 keeps its resemblance with iOS. All the apps are there on home screen however you can organize them into folders. A static bottom row of apps is also present. You can pull up a control center with a swipe-up gesture on the bottom edge. It brings a row of frequent apps icons, the brightness and media volume controller, and the quick switches/toggles. The drop-down panel from top status bar only brings notifications.
#gallery-0-22 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-22 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; } #gallery-0-22 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-22 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
In addition to standard Android navigation, Vivo Y91C offers gesture based navigation too. Those gestures are exactly we have seen in iPhone X. It’s easy to understand and keep in mind just like shown in the screens below.
#gallery-0-23 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-23 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; } #gallery-0-23 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-23 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Performance and Battery Life
The Vivo V15 is powered by the MediaTek Helio P22 chipset. It packs an octa-core ARM CPU with eight cores of Cortex-A53 – all clocked at 2.0GHz. It comes with PowerVR GE8320 and 2GB of RAM.
The processor itself is comparable to Snapdragon 450 for more regular performance of the phone. In fact it’s somewhat better as long as benchmark numbers suggest. Just take Rs. 26k Huawei’s Y7 Prime 2019 for example. The 20k Vivo Y91C can outperform both
AnTuTu v7: 76,059
Geekbench Multi-core: 3328
Geekbench Single-core: 832
But you shouldn’t really expect some heavy gaming from this phone. As the PowerVR GPU is not so good to play some graphics hefty games. However you can still play games like PUBG which offer different levels of graphics configuration. Means it will limit the system resources to let you play smoothly but with not-so-cool graphics quality.
Camera Test
The camera user experience is just same as we have seen in other Vivo smartphones previously with Funtouch OS 4.5, including V11. But due to the price category, Y91C comes with very limited set of options.
#gallery-0-24 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-24 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; } #gallery-0-24 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-24 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
There simple a few viewfinder modes with Photo, Video, Face Beauty, Professional and Document read mode. The phone doesn’t even support panorama mode. Professional mode is for the name sake as you can’t really get out of it. You can record up to 1080p videos at 30fps but no EIS is added with any lower resolution too.
Image Quality
Vivo Y91C captures nice shots in bright day light. Image detail seems fine from an entry level smartphone but still the distant objects looses detail specially the foliage and grass is all smudged out. Colors are accurate and looks nice. Noise handling was also good in some situations but can be spotted in dark gradient shades.
There is no HDR feature with the camera but the camera can handle dynamic range at some extent. The camera is not that good in low-light as heavy noise mostly occurs with higher ISO usage.

Conclusion and Verdict
Vivo Y91C is a good buy in this price range. The other option is the Realme C1 with Snapdragon 450 which is much common in this price range. However I told that the Y91C is better performer with Helio P22 than Realme C1 or even little expensive Huawei Y7 Prime. But why I won’t recommend Realme C1 is because its 16GB storage is not the best option to go for.
Sure the Vivo Y91C comes out with more numbers, if you ask me. But again it depends, what do you prefer more. Whether you want only a bit better gaming performance on one side, or double the storage on the other side with everything better in regular performance. Make your choice.
