And a few other views from my art room this morning.
1) Ficus bonsai that I obviously haven’t done much training on
2-3) Two of my Hoyas that quite love being in this room; got them as 4” pots about two years ago and have had blooms on both
4) Variegated string of hearts, some vines have lost the variegation mutation

Hoya wayetii opened its umbel! It … smells bad. Not as awful as gracilis did, but basically a similar rotting butterscotch watered down somewhat.
Other people have told me they really like the smell, so don’t let me discourage you from trying this plant! But I won’t lie about my opinion. Blech.

Didn’t like the last version too much, so here’s another go at my Hoya Wayetii!

I am 33 now!! As a treat I stared at my garden for extra long this weekend. :P (And played a lot of plant tetris with myself to arrange everything optimally, including letting the winter growers be closer to the cool window areas.)
My Hoya wayetii has been having an aphid problem so I took it out of the corner to give it a better alcohol spray and I hadn’t realized how much it had grown! It was a pretty small plant when I bought it (it’s from @indoorsun btw!! They’re my favorite Seattle plant shop and you should get your green friends from them!) so it’s really cool to see it turn into a large plant with trailing vines!
Hoya are mostly-succulent epiphytic milkweeds, and have those weird milkweed flowers! This one hasn’t flowered yet but I’m hoping I can get it to bloom eventually! H. wayetii specifically has these nice taco-shaped leaves with pretty dark brown trim.

My contribution to FishTank Day 1 and the color palette challenge. I've gathered items I either bought because of the color or that were around my house in the green and yellow color scheme, and then I made a kind of Gavii-CottageCore-FishTank moodboard of sorts. :D Basically tea, and yarn, and plants. The dream truly.
From top to bottom, left to right:
Image 1: My dream FishTank yarn - Arcane Fibre Works in the colorway "Calm Waters" (fingering weight). Just a few more in stock, but there is a similar one here, with a more yellow focus.
Image 2: Chantal Tea Kettle in Marigold yellow and an artisan made tea cup with lemons. I do not have the maker for the cup written down anywhere, but if I find them I will edit this post. [EDIT: TMD ceramics]
Image 3: Hoya Pubicalyx in a pot with a yellow butterfly
Image 4: Customized YETI rambler with "TB-4" on the side
Image 5: Gordon and Virgil Minis propped up with some scrap crochet thread in green and yellow. Green is Hobbii Rainbow Thread in "Malachite" and the yellow is Aunt Lydia's size 10.
Image 6: Green Coffee mug of a person in a sunhat planting near a green house. Purchased at my local farm shop, but I found it here as well.
Image 7: Hoya Wayetii in an artisan made pot by Rain Ceramics
Image 8: Vinyl Records with yellow album covers - "Best of the Blues Brothers" and "Talking is Hard" by Walk The Moon
Image 9: More Arcane Fibre Works yarn, worsted weight "Leaf Green" and a Furls Crochet Streamline Resin hook in "Virgo"
This has been a great excuse to test out my new camera!

It’s true that the houseplant collection has been doing a lot of heavy lifting in terms of keeping me floating through all this mess. It’s also true that some have not been doing great (looking at you, mealybugs on succulents). At least my cacti don’t seem affected (yet?)
Victories lie in both jewel orchids doing quite well (both the macodes petola and the ludisia discolor, which I didn’t get a photo of to fit in here) as well as the first monstera Thai constellation leaf in my care (the cutting was a generous gift from a friend). Also the Hoya collection is growing, and the oldest plants in my collection are doing great, including the likely 10 year old Hoya compacta in the 6th photo. I remember when I bought her in 2013 for maaaaaybe $20? Damn, Hoya prices have SKYROCKETED these last two or so years. Anyway I think I’ve really latched onto hoyas as MY plants: I’ve never killed one and I’m finding success with each new one I bring in. Also THE BLOOMS.
Frank, my 8+ year old monstera, got a much needed pruning. Hopefully his pruned vines will propagate successfully and be a new plant for a friend.
Also someone stop the ficus elasticas: they are getting TOO POWERFUL. Last photo shows staghorn the third, who should have a name by now, after 3 months and 5+ new fronds. Maybe it’ll earn a name if it ever grows a basal/shield frond…
I should make a post with just my hoyas: sorry, not sorry.

If Hoya wayetii keeps even one of these sets of buds, it will be a success. It’s so stubborn.

If you don't trade plants in the mail, you should think about it. Look at this absolute HAUL I was sent!!! Hoya curtisii, Hoya obovata, Hoya wayetii, and (my new truest love) Peperomia prostrata!!!!! And it was a trade so I only paid to ship my plants! THREE DOLLAR HAUL BABEY

THE EVIL HAS RETURNED
This mealie didn’t react when poked so it may have already died from the alcohol spray. In any case I fed it to one of my butterworts.
(Pictured plant is Hoya wayetii)
