Spectrum router VPN limitations
Title: Understanding the Limitations of Spectrum Router VPN
In today's digital age, where privacy and security are paramount concerns, many individuals turn to VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) to safeguard their online activities. However, users of Spectrum routers may encounter limitations when attempting to utilize VPN services.
Spectrum routers, provided by the telecommunications company Charter Communications, offer internet connectivity to millions of households across the United States. While these routers come equipped with basic security features, they may not fully support VPN functionality due to various reasons.
One of the primary limitations of Spectrum routers concerning VPN usage is the lack of advanced firmware options. Unlike some high-end routers that offer extensive VPN support and customization, Spectrum routers often have limited firmware capabilities, making it challenging to configure VPN connections directly on the router.
Additionally, Spectrum's network infrastructure and policies may impose restrictions on VPN traffic. The company may throttle or block VPN connections to manage network congestion or comply with legal regulations.
Moreover, some Spectrum routers may not prioritize VPN traffic effectively, leading to slower connection speeds and intermittent connectivity issues for users accessing VPN services.
Furthermore, users may encounter compatibility issues when attempting to use certain VPN protocols or services with Spectrum routers. Some VPN providers may not be fully compatible with Spectrum's network setup, leading to configuration difficulties or unreliable VPN connections.
In conclusion, while Spectrum routers offer reliable internet connectivity, users should be aware of the limitations when it comes to utilizing VPN services. It's essential to research and choose VPN solutions carefully, considering compatibility, performance, and any potential restrictions imposed by the ISP or router hardware.

Vpn For Mac Os X Server
Tumblr media
VPN Host Name: The Fully Qualified Domain Name you can use to access your VPN server. ( Requires properly configured DNS.) Shared Secret: Used as a way for VPN.
Buy OS X Server. Just like that, your Mac is a powerful server. MacOS Server brings even more power to your business, home office, or school. Designed to work with macOS and iOS, macOS Server makes it easy to configure Mac and iOS devices. It’s also remarkably simple to install, set up, and manage.
I'm configuring a Mac as a server with a VPN service. So, I opened the ports listed as used by VPN in Apple documentation: UDP 500 - 500 (+ESP and AH) UDP 4500 - 4500; Any UDP - 1701 (I got to these configs setup by the router wizard to setup the VPN ports) Now, problem number 1: I cannot connect to my VPN.

Configuring L2TP Access
Page 1 of 5Next >
In Part 1 of his series on VPN solutions for Mac OS X, Ryan Faas illustrated the process of connecting a Mac to a remote network using VPN. Ryan now continues the discussion from the other end of the spectrum by showing you how to enable, configure, and control VPN access to your network using Mac OS X Server.

Part 1 of this series looked at how to connect a computer to a remote network using VPN. This article continues the discussion of VPN services for Mac OS X from the opposite perspective, that of configuring Mac OS X Server’s VPN service. The VPN service of Mac OS X Server supports both the L2TP over IPSec and PPTP protocols commonly used by both Macs and Windows PCs. It also integrates with Open Directory, enabling you to configure VPN access based on individual users and groups as well as offering various additional security and authentication methods.
To configure the VPN service, launch Server Admin and select VPN in the Computer & Services list for the appropriate server. If you are using NAT on your network, remember that the VPN server must have a public IP address to accept connections from outside your network as well as an internal IP address. Also make certain that the ports for the appropriate VPN protocols (1701 for L2TP, 1723 for PPTP) are open in your firewall configuration. After the VPN service is configured, you use the Start Service button in the Server Admin toolbar to start the VPN service.
As you can see in Figure 1, the VPN service contains four primary panes for which there are tabs at the bottom of the window: Overview, Log, Connections, and Settings. Overview enables you to see the status of both VPN protocols and the number of connections. Log allows you to view the VPN service log. Connections displays information for all current VPN connections, including the user who is connected, the remote IP address from which they are connected, the internal IP address assigned to them by the VPN service, which VPN protocol they are connected by, and how long they have been connected. The Settings Pane, which is shown in Figure 1, is where you configure the VPN service.
Figure 1 VPN Service Settings pane in Server Admin
Configuring L2TP Access
The VPN Settings pane includes four tabs: L2TP, PPTP, Logging, and Client Information. The L2TP and PPTP tabs allow you to enable and configure each of the two VPN protocols (you can opt to use either or both protocols). The L2TP tab, shown in Figure 1, includes a checkbox to enable the service as well as a starting and ending IP address field and radio buttons for selecting an IPSec authentication method. As discussed in Part 1 of this series, L2TP offers additional security over PPTP by allowing the server to ensure that the computer requesting a VPN connection is a trusted computer by the use of security certificates or a shared secret (a string of text entered on both the server and remote computer).
If you are using a shared secret instead of a security certificate for L2TP, enter it in this field. If you are using a shared secret, remember to make it as secure as possible and to change it on a regular basis (informing users that connect using L2TP) as a precaution against the secret becoming available to individuals other than authorized VPN users. Using security certificates, which can be generated using the General Server information pane of Server Admin is inherently more secure than using a shared secret. If you choose to use a certificate, select the appropriate radio button and then select your certificate from the pop-up menu.
The IP address fields are used to assign the IP address pool for each protocol. These IP address ranges function much like a DHCP scope and are used to assign internal network IP addresses to each computer that connects using VPN. You must create VPN IP address ranges that are unique from your DHCP scope(s) and static IP addresses to avoid IP address conflicts within the network. You should also make certain that you assign ranges large enough to accommodate all the VPN users that you need to support.
The PPP Authentication pop-up menu allows you to choose what method will be used for verifying users’ names and passwords when they attempt to establish a VPN connection. You can choose to use either Kerberos or MS-CHAPv2. Kerberos is a more secure option, but it does require that your VPN server and remote computers be bound to the same Open Directory domain and that Kerberos be properly configured for that domain to function. MS-CHAPv2 exchanges usernames and passwords in solidly encrypted form and is more broadly supported and can be easier to troubleshoot. If you are supporting Windows PCs as remote computers, you should choose MS-CHAPv2.

that last post reminded me how about a week ago, I woke up around 3:50 pm, and found out that my wifi had been shut off. I had a notification for an email on my phone, sent around 9 am, telling me that we did not pay rent and that if we wanted to avoid having our wifi shut off, to pay it immediately. I also saw another email, send around 12 pm, informing me that my wifi had been shut off. as a reminder, I was asleep, and my roommate was at work. I don’t know the leasing office’s hours, but I do remember them closing at 4 sometimes, so in my panic I logged into my rent account and looked at how much was owed
it was 25 dollars. 25 fucking dollars.
I paid it and then immediately called the leasing office and they turned the wifi back on. but imagine if I had been, say, 15 minutes too late and the office had closed. would they have turned it back on?
it should be ok though, right? after all, I’m a programmer. I have three wireless routers just lying in a drawer that I could use to circumvent this. except... the property management company has made a deal with the internet provider (spectrum, which is a monopoly) to install routers in every apartment. these routers are locked in a box on the wall that requires a special kind of tool to open, and if you happen to have said tool, you will find a bizarre mess of cables that make no sense. oh, and tampering with this box goes against your lease, so if when you move out you’re not able to perfectly replicate what spectrum did, you can expect a fine
also, this apartment complex is right next to a university, and assumes that everyone who lives here is a student (which is literally not true but that’s a story for another time). imagine giving 3 hours notice that you’re shutting off your tenant’s internet access because they set the wrong amount on their rent’s autopay and ended up being $25 short. imagine doing that and then going home for the day, or even weekend, free to ignore all of the problems you’ve just caused until you go back to work at 8 am. your tenants are doing all of their schoolwork online because there’s a fucking pandemic going on, so what better weapon do you have to extort money from them than their internet access?
the relationship between a landlord and tenant is all about control. they seek to control your life as much as they possibly can, and take away all of your means of fighting back. all landlords are evil and need to be abolished

my current job probably sounds cooler to others than it does to me.
from my perspective, we have computers, routers, servers, satellite equipment, a cell site, etc, but I don’t do anything with them.
We have a domain network, but no federation, no certificate services, no inter-trust relationships, no anything large enough scale that using powershell to script would ever save time.
We have routers, but I don’t do global routing protocols like BGP, just adjust static route systems once in a blue moon.  There’s generally nothing to do with them.
Satellite equipment, but that rarely needs to be adjusted.  I can adjust power levels and settings and I know the basics of shit but I don’t use spectrum analyzers enough to remember much of anything.
I can deregister phones from the location registry and I can look at the radio output and I can tail logs to see how calls are getting routed and all the other output a base station server dumps but there’s almost never a reason to do so.
I have no motivation to do work because there is never any work to be done that has a reason or payoff and none of it is that interesting to me that I can motivate myself to bother when nothing interesting will change as a result of doing it.  Doing anything interesting would require enough latitude that I could run a project start to finish without bosses fucking it up with micromanagement and terrible decisions.
What I do do is manage communication and relationships between my two bosses who act like Dad and Mom and massage their connection so they don’t wreck everything, because apparently you can get to be 50+ without ever developing the basic ability to have a real deep and honest conversation with someone where you deal with your own shit.  And paperwork.  And more communication.

What is the best way to reset Charter Spectrum Router
1.
Find the reset button for your router. It's typically a small, rounded button on the back of the router. It usually has distinct colors from the other buttons, so it's fairly easy to spot it. It's also smaller and it's best to use objects with an angled end, such as paperclips or ballpoint pen.
2.
Then, push and hold down the reset button a few minutes till the Power light of your router go off.
3.
After that, press the reset button and allow the router to restart
4.
When the restart process is completed and the LEDs have stable, you can repeat the steps to login as described above, using the default username and password.
5.
You'll be able to configure the router, and, of course any problems you had should be solved.
How to Secure your Charter Spectrum Router
As we mentioned earlier, Spectrum routers come already preconfigured. This means that the default settings like the username and password, network name as well as the the Wifi password are typically utilized. It is highly recommended to alter the default settings of your router since they can pose a serious threat to the security of your network. For example, anyone could quickly find what the username, password and default user name are of this router. This is the same for the name of the network and the password for Wifi.
That means anyone who wishes to access your home network will be able to do it. However, this could create a risk for your privacy online as well as other information that is sensitive that you store on the device. Making changes to the default settings as well as using more secure and difficult to figure out credentials is crucial. It's true that the different Spectrum router models and brands have different instructions for how to secure your router.
It is necessary follow the specific directions that are specific to your router model or brand in order to implement these adjustments. But, there are some essential steps that routers employ. Let's look at each of them.

Mac OS: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft
Linux: /Home/**yourUserName**/.minecraft/
In the end it should look like: minecraft/mods/**version**/RaspberryJamMod.jar, replacing **version** by the Minecraft version, for example 1.10.2.
Install PythonTool!
Download PythonTool from the download section above, remember to choose the right version!
Move this file to Forge’s mods folder, which is located in your Minecraft installation folder, select the appropriate version folder inside mods folder. Default installation paths are:
Windows: Users**yourUserName**AppDataRoaming.minecraftmods
Mac OS: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods
Linux: /Home/**yourUserName**/.minecraft/modsIf you changed it when you installed Minecraft, use your custom path.
Configure PythonTool!
In this last tiny step, we will quickly configure PythonTool. The way it works is, you specify a folder of your choice, and place your scripts there, then when you open the Computer Block in your Minecraft world, all those scripts will appear there as Python Script items, which you can carry and use whenever you want!
People can install web server software on the same system running MSS Standard Version 180-Day Evaluation or MSS Standard Edition. But it would be better to install web server software on a fanatical system apart from systems operating MSS. Web server for mac os x.
So the only thing we need to do is to make sure PythonTool knows which folder you wish to use. By default it points to a folder in your installation path full of example scripts (so many that they don’t fit all in the Computer Block). If you want to have a look at those, great! But at some point you’ll want to create your own, or to make a selection. Just follow this steps:
Create our custom folder called maybe pythontool, in Desktop (for example)
Open Minecraft, and in the main screen go to Mods, select PythonTool Mod, and click on Config. This is the configuration menu, click on Script Path Configuration. Here there are two configuration fields:
mcpipy folder: this points to RaspberryJam Mod’s folder in your Minecraft installation path. If you have installed everything in the default directories, it is already pointing to the right place.
Script folder: this is your custom folder, type the address of your custom folder. For our pythontool folder in Desktop, if you are using Windows, it will look like this: Users**yourUserName**Desktoppythontool.
Everything should be ready now, click on Done a few times to go back to the main screen, and start your world. Enjoy!

Govee leads the way in affordable smart home lighting, but until now it's mostly been focussed on DIY options like LED strips. The Govee Lyra is its first freestanding floor lamp, and the sleek design means it wouldn't look out of place in any modern home. Is it time to upgrade your floor lamp?
youtube
Read on to find out more about the Govee Lyra floor lamp, how it compares to other smart lighting products, and whether it's right for your smart home.
To celebrate the launch, Govee is offering a Lyra floor lamp to one lucky reader: just enter your details in the giveaway widget at the end of this review to be in with a chance of winning. The competition closes one month later, and the winner will be notified by email.
What is "RGBIC"?
The Govee Lyra uses RGBIC technology, which is another term for Neopixels, or pixel LEDs. The "RGB" part refers to the LEDs being capable of color mixing with a full gamut of Red, Green, and Blue. "IC" is short for Integrated Circuit, referencing the fact that each LED has its own control circuit, hence each can display a different color.
Tumblr media
Most RGB strips you'll find for sale can display only a single color at the same time. The Govee Lyra (and other Govee RGBIC products) can display multiple colors simultaneously, resulting in gorgeous rainbows and aurora patterns.
Govee Lyra Hardware
The Lyra arrives in a relatively compact box, which of course means there's a fair bit of construction before you can start using the lamp. Inside the box you'll find:
Heavy base with attached control box
Three milled aluminum profile sections
Connecting brackets and screws
Silicone-encased LED strips
Power cable
Remote control
Optional remote control holder
Fixing it all together is quite an involved process, but took me no longer than half an hour, and a screwdriver is included. However, you should follow the instructions closely, as one of the aluminum profile sections is not like the others, and has a different set of screw holes to attach to the base. Once the main tower has been constructed, you should plug in the LED strip, then carefully squeeze it into the profiling.
Tumblr media
The optional remote holder snaps onto the Lyra in any position you choose. The remote control itself is magnetic at the rear, so it can be attached and pulled off easily. It's optional though, so feel free to not use it if you feel it ruins the overall aesthetic.
Design
The Govee Lyra stands at 58-inches (147cm), though the LED strip is only 47-inches (120cm) of that. To ensure it stands upright, you'll find a heavy but slimline base, with the footprint of the Lyra only a 6-inch diameter, meaning it should fit neatly beside any bulky furniture.
That said, I'm not a fan of the white plastic around the base, and would have preferred a wider, flatter, brushed aluminum look to match the profiling sections. It also seems like a wasted opportunity that the power brick and electronics are not built into the base.
Tumblr media
Ultimately these are small complaints when the base and cable are likely to be hidden behind some furniture, but it does mean you may not want to put the Lyra in an empty corner of the living room. At 58-inches tall, I also found myself wanting a small table to put it on, rather than the actual floor. It feels just ever so slightly too short, and just one extra section would have made all the difference. To me, a floor lamp should stand about as tall as I am, or a little less.
The Govee Lyra looks best when placed about a foot back from and facing a wall, allowing a wide area of light to be reflected back.
Tumblr media
Of course, if you'd rather the harsher look of the striplight itself, there's no reason you can't do that, but you'll get a much less impressive reflection.
Tumblr media
Controlling the Govee Lyra
There's a number of ways you can interact with and control the Lyra:
Physical remote control
Govee Home app
Voice assistant
Remote Control
The remote has buttons for power, built-in music reactive modes, one color selection, brightness, and warm or cool light modes.
Tumblr media
However, notably absent is the ability to select multicolor scenes that aren't music reactive. To initiate those–which are arguably one of the biggest differentiating points of the Govee Lyra–you'll need to use the app.
Govee Home App
Thankfully, getting set up with the Govee Home app is easy, and I was able to reliably add the device within minutes. Operating over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, just choose the Lyra from the indoor lighting tab, provide your network access details, and name the device. The device will automatically use Bluetooth if you're within range, but otherwise, it all works fine over Wi-Fi.
The app is relatively easy to use to select premade scenes or more music reactive modes, but creating your own custom animations can get more complex thanks to confusing color options. Having trouble deciding on some colors to use? The "Recommended color schemes" sounds like it would be an easy to choose list, but instead requires you to select no less than an initial style, a basic color, a scene, and a color matching method; none of which are really explained.

The "Effects Lab", which features at the top of the list, is particularly bizarre. It appears to be a vast selection of color palettes created from photographs, from which you can then choose a single color and apply it to the lamp, or save the color to your personal favorites. To me, an Effects Lab is somewhere you can go and choose, say a fireworks animation, or log fire. Instead, you'll find those sort of animations down in Mode -> Scene.
The app also includes the options to share your scenes, though it's not clear where to access others' creations.
In short, there's an awful lot of choice in the app, and the basics are easy to get a hang of, but there's just too much complexity when it comes to customization. Govee could do with taking a leaf out of the Nanoleaf playbook when it comes to custom scene creation and community sharing.
Voice Assistants
The last option is to use either Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. Apple HomeKit and Siri are not supported. The voice assistant control is also limited to power, brightness, and color; you can't select multicolor scenes or music reactive modes.
In my testing, I found the remote control and app to be the most useful. Despite not being able to export animated scenes to the remote control or voice assistants, the Lyra does remember the last scene used, so you can at least resume your favorite (assuming you don't turn it off at the plug). The lack of HomeKit support might be a dealbreaker for you though.
Tumblr media
Which Smart Lighting to Choose?
Govee is our favorite when it comes to great value smart lighting, but it's not the only option. Let's take a look at some other ecosystems to compare.
Govee vs Hue
The Govee and Hue smart lighting ecosystems crossover in many places, yet differ immensely. Both sell smart color bulbs, LED strips, and standalone lighting fixtures. Govee even has its own version of the Ambilight technology, which uses a camera to "watch" your screen and dynamically adjust the lighting color.
The main difference is price: Philips Hue devices cost two to five times as much as their Govee equivalent. Consider the Govee smart LED strips, around $20 for five meters; vs the Hue equivalent Lightstrip at $60 for three meters! Philips even has a smart floor lamp, but it's twice the price, and only outputs a single color. There's just no competition here.
The Hue system requires its own smart hub, creating a separate Zigbee mesh network. This has the benefit of not cluttering up your Wi-Fi if you have lots of fixtures, and means you can install lighting in places your Wi-Fi might not be able to reach. On the other hand, it's a high added cost if you only have a few smart lights, and modern Wi-Fi routers should easily handle some smart lighting. On top of that, Zigbee transmits over the 2.4Ghz spectrum, the same as 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi. S you (or your neighbors) may find your Wi-Fi experience suffers.
Govee smart products use either Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. If you have good Wi-Fi coverage and a modern router, you should have no problem. Though rarely used outside of initial setup, Bluetooth is a welcome addition for me. If I'm running a small event somewhere, such as a haunted house, I can pick up some Govee LED strips and set them up as effect lighting or a custom music reactive mode using only my smartphone, without needing to worry about programming in new Wi-Fi access details.
Tumblr media
Govee vs Nanoleaf
Although the Nanoleaf smart lighting panels are a vastly different product (more akin to wall art installations), they are generally going to be considered for the same purpose as the Lyra: lighting up a wall or corner of your home.
Both Nanoleaf Panels and Govee Lyra share a lot of similarities:
Connect to Wi-Fi, and have voice assistant integration
Capable of displaying more than one color simultaneously
Offer music reactive modes
Offer dynamic scenes, such as a rainbow or aurora
Have a comprehensive mobile app with custom design modes
Have physical control buttons, either on a remote or on the device itself
So where do they differ? Nanoleaf panels are infinitely more customizable, and expandable. The app even helps you to design a shape to place them on your wall. Nanoleaf panels are also compatible with Apple HomeKit, and voice assistant integration is generally more developed, with individual scenes exported.
Of course, Nanoleaf panels are more expensive: two to three times as much as the Govee Lyra for a basic 9-panel music reactive starter kit. In my experience, the Wi-Fi control is lot less reliable too, and I frequently have to do a hard reset to get them responsive again.
Should You Buy the Govee Lyra?
If you want a stylish, minimalistic floor lamp, capable of stunning multicolor dynamic and music reactive displays, along with plenty of customizable options and app control, the Govee Lyra is well worth a look. It's certainly the fanciest floor lamp we've ever seen, perfect for everything from impromptu living room raves to subdued romantic nights in.
It'll blend into the background when not in use, and take center-stage when needed. It's gorgeous, customizable, and has a physical remote control. You'll need the app for the more exciting scenes though, and voice assistant integration is limited.
Tumblr media
But while we think the Lyra is a great-looking smart floor lamp, it's let down only by the fact that other Govee products offer even better value. Much of the cost goes on the aluminum profiling, and there's only 47-inches worth of actual LEDs for the RRP of $150. For the same price, you could buy almost 100ft of Govee RGBIC LED strips, which would have the exact same features, and produce enough light to blind you. Clearly, a big chunk of the price is on the presentation—metal isn't cheap. If you just want some smart effect lighting, and don't mind sticking the LED strips to an existing bit of furniture, then some basic LED strips are a better choice.

Speed Test Open
Tumblr media
Find out the open source way, with fio. The actual workload of a typical disk doesn't look like that—and that 'simple speed test' doesn't reproduce a lot of the bottlenecks that slow down. This open-source Windows application tests your download speed on a set interval and logs the test results to a CSV text file. The logger also monitors service interruptions (PC offline/online) and IP address changes. Here are your options: Download the Speed Test Loggger (Only 1.7 MB, runs on Windows 7, 8, 10 and so on.).

Comcast, the largest U.S. provider of gigabit broadband Internet services, has demonstrated internet speeds greater than 4 gigabits per second (Gbps) in both directions over a cable network.
The test was conducted on Broadcom’s full duplex DOCSIS 4.0 chip, which will support future multigigabit upload and download speeds. By full duplex, it means that the upstream speed is the same as the downstream speed. Normally, most people can get access to a gigabit per second download speeds, but uploading crawls at maybe 20 megabits per second.
The test is part of Comcast’s long-term plan to reach 10G, or 10 gigabits a second full duplex, over its hybrid-fiber coaxial (HFC) network. The HFC network uses the blazing fast fiber-optic network technology as well as coaxial cables that come into our homes.
https://foxpin51.tumblr.com/post/653552030638587904/att-speed-test-ookla. Supported by the research arm of the cable industry, Cable Labs, Comcast is creating its 10G Platform as a multi-year, global technology initiative that will dramatically increase speed and capacity over HFC networks. During the pandemic, this kind of internet speed is critical, as Comcast saw its traffic rise 32% in 2020.
Behind the trial
Above: Comcast has been laying a lot of cable.
This trial begins to lay the groundwork for network operators like Comcast to deliver multigigabit download and upload speeds over connections that are already installed in hundreds of millions of homes worldwide. Cable operators in the U.S. have already installed networks that pass 85 percent of U.S. homes.
The Broadcom chip is expected to become the world’s first production silicon to be developed using the DOCSIS 4.0 Full Duplex standard, which represents an evolutionary leap forward in the ability to deliver ultra-fast speeds over HFC networks. One of the most important breakthroughs in the DOCSIS 4.0 standard is the ability to use network spectrum more efficiently, allowing operators to dramatically increase upstream speeds without sacrificing downstream spectrum to do so, Comcast said.
A key advantage of DOCSIS 4.0 Full Duplex is that it establishes a foundation for operators to deliver multigigabit speeds over their existing networks to the connections already in hundreds of millions of homes around the world, without the need for massive digging and construction projects.
Comcast technologists in Philadelphia and Denver conducted the test by installing the Broadcom SOC in a simulated network environment to track the performance of its Full Duplex DOCSIS features (including echo cancellation and overlapping spectrum) that combine to support substantial improvements in network throughput. In the test environment, the research team demonstrated the ability of the system-on-chip (SoC) to deliver upstream and downstream throughputs of greater than 4 gigabits per second (Gbps). Future optimization is expected to drive even greater capacity.
Comcast’s vision
Above: Inside Comcast’s CTC in Philadelphia.
Elad Nafshi, the senior vice president of next generation access networks at Comcast Cable, said in an email to GamesBeat that the performance of the Broadcom chip exceeded expectations. He said the SoC was built by Broadcom, and the test was designed and executed by Comcast network engineers in Philadelphia and Denver, with the support of technology partners at Broadcom.
“More broadly speaking, the developments we’re seeing today on 10G are the result of global collaboration between operators, technology makers and standards bodies,” Nafshi said.
Tumblr media
Last October, Comcast technologists were able to deliver 1.25 gig symmetrical speeds over a live, all-digital network by leveraging advances in Distributed Access Architecture, Remote PHY digital nodes, and a cloud-based virtualized cable modem termination system platform (vCMTS).
Even as Comcast works to test and deploy Full Duplex DOCSIS to enable multigigabit upload and download speeds in the future, the company is leveraging the technologies from the October trial, along with DOCSIS 3.1 in the upstream, to increase speed and capacity in the near term. In my area, I can pay for a gigabit downstream connection.
“Comcast has been working to develop the technologies that power 10G since well before it was formally introduced in January 2019,” he said. “(We) played a key role, along with industry partners, in developing the DOCSIS 4.0 Full Duplex standard. The lab test itself was the result of several weeks of construction, preparation and design by Comcast network engineers in Philadelphia and Denver.”
He added, “We don’t have any news to share at this point about new product and service offerings, but we’ve been excited and impressed by the pace of innovation with technologies like distributed access architecture, virtualization and DOCSIS 4.0. We’re very confident that the mix of speeds we make available today are more than fast enough to meet and exceed our customers current needs. We’re continuing to move forward with testing and development of this technology, because we know the future will bring even greater demand, and we want to be ready for whatever comes.”

How to Test Your Internet Speeds
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Testing your internet or WiFi speeds is just a button click away, but before you do there are a few steps to keep in mind to ensure you get the best possible results.
Use a Wired Connection
Sieve tube elements. A wired connection will always provide the fastest speed and best Internet experience. When performing the speed test be sure to connect your computer to your modem using an Ethernet cable:
Connect the Ethernet cable from the back of the modem to the open Ethernet port on your computer.
Connect the power cord from the back of the modem to an electrical outlet.
Check the modem and router lights to confirm they have power, and are connected to the network and your computer.
Tumblr media
Remember that every Ethernet cable has a speed limit. Some cables only support speeds up to 10 Mbps, which is slower than most RCN Internet speed packages. Make sure your Ethernet cable can support the speed you’ve signed up for. If not, you’ll need one that will.
Turn off Unused Connected Devices
Be sure to turn off unused devices including laptops, tablets, phones, gaming systems, or other smart home devices. Multiple devices connected to your home network may result in slower internet and WiFi speeds. This is because devices divide bandwidth like a pie, with each device taking the portion it needs at the time of use resulting in slower speeds.
Speed Test Openreach
Close all Applications and Programs
Smart Speed
Applications or programs running in the background, even when not in use, may be using your internet connection. It is recommended that these programs be closed until after the speed test is completed. Snagit tool windows 10.

Verdict:
Wifi Analyzer Mac Sierra
Personally to me, WiFi Scanner seems the most bang for your buck and with all its features it functions like an all-in-one from scanning available networks and their performances to seeing which devices are connected to my network.

5. NetSpot
NetSpot offers the convenient visual heat maps so you can easily catch any dead spots and how you can optimize access points locations; it is a WiFi analyzer tool like no other!
Mac Os Wifi Analyzer
The app allows you to directly upload a map of your area or draw one using NetSpot’s map drawing tool. Once you have completed that, you can select between several visualizations like signal level, noise level, and access points which show you everything throughout the whole map in the form of heat maps. You can then identify the areas with low signal strength or problems and troubleshoot them.
Pros:
Full Network analysis and surveys
Support for area plan or map
Heat map visualizations
Suitable for commercial use
Cons:
Very pricey for personal use
Verdict:
NetSpot feels like a well polished complete WiFi analyzer app. It does feel a little redundant for personal use but with its commercial licensing, it should work great for commercial use or large office areas to detect dead zones and improve the overall connectivity of the area.
Download NetSpot (Freemium)
6. Honorable Mentions
WireShark is an open source and very powerful network analyzer used mainly by network admins and developers. Although it comes with a steep learning curve, it is one of the best packet analyzer apps available. WireShark is also capable of working in monitor mode, thereby letting you see what other devices are browsing/watching on your network. While normally you’d need an external WiFi adapter to these kinds of things, most Macs have a network card that supports monitor mode which overall works out pretty well.
JamWiFi is another free little tool which can not only analyze devices connected to your wireless network, but you can also disconnect them from using your WiFi. But it also comes with a downside which is it will also disconnect you and you have to reconnect again.
WiFi Signal Strength Explorer is a handy little utility which unlike the normal WiFi icon, shows you the strength of connection via dots/percent in the menu bar and by clicking it, you can access some basic details about your current network.
Wifi Analyzer For Macbook Pro
Wrapping Up: WiFi Analyser for Mac
So these were the best WiFi analyzer applications available for macOS and here’s a little recap. For casual use or not too deep analysis, the Wireless Diagnostics seem to work just fine. If you need something quick that shows you details about your connected network just from your menubar, check out WiFi Signal. As a WiFi analyzing tool, WiFi Explorer has got everything you might need. However, if you are a sucker for extra features, WiFi Scanner provides the most for your money. For large organizations or commercial purposes, nothing comes close to NetSpot. Did we miss anything? Which one do you use? Let us know in the comments below.
