6 November 2023 [Intersections; Mid-Presentation]
Presentation deck : https://liveaucbac-my.sharepoint.com/:b:/g/personal/2308576_my_aub_ac_uk/ER_MVGcz0ExPv9liIOwJUkMBGjIqt7UGPLGXADMdkvueFw?e=ymAe8R
With the developments that I discovered before, I made an update to my presentation deck from last time for the mid-presentation session with Brionney. Even though I’m using Design Thinking Process as my main stages to follow in this project, my tutors introduced me to The Double Diamond Research Process theory too. Following the instructions, I’m dividing my contents of deck to these parts :
Discover - The process starts by questioning the brief and exploring and researching the space.
The part when first time I ask opinions about intersections to the people around me, and use their inputs to find one topic that I wanna focus working on to highlights
Define - The second phase is to make sense of the findings, find the insights.
The part when I do researches until finding a bus trip as the topic I’m leaning to work on, reading journals to find the red thread or the core idea that I want to communicate to the target audience and combined it with the problem that’s currently happening in the society, I chose the well-being issue combined to the solution which is acceptance and commitment therapy.
Develop - The third phase is to ideate, conduct experiments and develop visual solutions.
Knowing what core idea that I want to portray and what issue that I want to solve, I decided to do a book and actually tried to go on a short trip to Christchurch as my primary research, looking if any inspirable non-verbal interactions actually happens in a bus trip. Finding that it does happen makes my desire grow bigger to share these wholesome moments to the audience by making illustrations and writings, referencing great books by awesome writers like Rupi Kaur and Alicia Cooks.
After the presentation, I got feedback and inputs from Briony and my friends mainly on how the pagination will be like, and what kind of binding that I’ll be doing. At first, I was thinking of making it just like an A5 book with perfect or staple binding, but after this session I’m also considering the concertina book.

Warnings: Swearing, an argument, allusion to sex (NO SMUT), pure fluff
Words: 3.1k
A/N: I suppose this is an entry for @cherrymaybank’s Valentine’s Day Fic Challenge.
Based on the song We Wouldn’t Be Us by Alexandra Kay

Every dress didn’t seem to fit properly no matter what mirror with different light in your apartment you tried. The spare bathroom’s bulb was dying, so that made the colour appear off, and the best mirror was dirty, which would dampen the romantic goal. Nothing made you feel that oomph that you desired for this date.
You could wear the standby little black dress of which you had two options, the clubbing one or the work appropriate one. It didn’t seem right to choose a standard black and no colour for this insanely sweet guy that had this insane energy. With that thought in mind, you dug deeper in your closet for that special dress that you’d never found someone worthy of it. It was your best dress and your most expensive with the tags still on. You would have gone for the maroon dress but it was Valentine’s Day and that seemed like over kill.
Somehow it still fit perfectly despite the length of time from purchase, it was a vibrant green satin with lace matching the colour. The dress's satin ended just below the knee with the matching lace falling an additional six inches past. The A-line skirt was loose flowing contrasting to the form-fitting material across your bust and midsection.
One of your favourite parts of the dress was the off-shoulder bateau neckline that gave a tasteful sneak of your cleavage. The bottom of the thick straps came to make a perfectly straight horizontal line. Across your waist was a one-inch wide satin ribbon attached to the dress that formed a perfect bow that tied the outfit together, no pun intended.
“Whoa.” You breathed stepping in front of the floor-length mirror kept in the spare bedroom, it had once been your roommates’ room before she moved.
You had to admit the dress was magical with it, bringing out all your curves and went with your skin tone. It was a pure shock to see how you managed to make the dress come to life with just a makeup look that was easy to do. All you did next was your favourite beige heels that went with everything. You had just slid on the left heel when the buzzer sounded and slid the right on as you hit the button unlocking the apartment building door.
“This is going to be perfect.” You breathed leaning into the mirror beside the front door. You inspected your lipstick as a knock sounded on the dark brown wood of your door.
“You look gorgeous.” Your date breathed, widening those colour changing irises as he took in your outfit, “You take my breath away. Happy Valentine’s Day”
Your cheeks flushed, “Thank you, Charlie.”
He stepped into the apartment as you quickly went to the kitchen to grab your coat and purse with your essentials. He had gently retrieved the coat from your arms to help you into the cold jacket.
“I know traditionally I would have brought you flowers, but I also know you love books.” Charlie breathed grasping the items in his hands, “So I got these flowers.”
His warm hands held three books. The top one was The Orchid House by Lucinda Riley with a cover that had the background blurry with only the back of a girl in clarity. The girl’s pink dress matching the flower in the upper corner of the book. The next cover proudly displayed The Rose Garden by Susanna Kearsley with red flowers growing down on a stone building. The third one was a light pink book with an anatomically correct heart with flowers growing out of the arteries, veins and valves; a collection of poetry I Saw You As a Flower by Ellen Everett. Lastly, you held Rupi Kaur’s second collection of poetry The Sun and her Flowers that had come out a couple years ago.
“Charlie, this is so thoughtful. You even has a rose one!” You breathlessly spoke gently touching the covers, “Thank you so much for these.”
“I thought we could read them together?” Charlie was bashful as he quietly asked with flushed cheeks. He didn’t know why he felt like this was his very first date all over again.
“I’d love that.” You softly told the Canadian with the manners a mother would be jealous to have in her home. Charlie’s fingers linked with yours as he tugged you out of the apartment into the hallway.
Your hands swung during the short walk from the apartment building to his bright orange Subaru across the street. The sound of the light wind rustling the trees lining the sidewalk mixed with the humming from Charlie was a perfect film score. He was the ideal gentleman even before he asked you out.
You couldn’t wait to tell your close loved ones about Charlie. You could really see this going somewhere. The relationship that is, as you were now on the side of a road with the Subaru’s hazard lights flashing.
“I forgot to fill the tank.” Charlie moaned, pressing his forehead against the steering wheel. His eyes clenched just as tight as his fists.
The Canadian was so embarrassed to have had what he thought was the best date of his life. He’d played music from the playlist he had patiently curated specifically for this date, and he held your hand to the restaurant. He’d already made plans for another date when his car’s warning beeped.
In Charlie’s haste, he’d forgotten to fuel up his car, so here he was with the prettiest person he’d ever seen in his passenger seat. His confidence in a second date had greatly diminished.
“Char, you said Owen was on his way. There isn’t anyone else I’d prefer to be stranded with. Don’t be so hard on yourself.”
“I wanted this date to go perfect. This is my first Valentine’s Day with someone.” Charlie admitted turning his head to stare into warm pools of your e/y colours. His eyes scanned the soft smile that appeared on your face as his confession, “I had this whole thing planned out, and now you definitely won’t want a second-”
“I’m gonna kiss you. If you don’t want that, let me know.” You murmured before pulling him in for what would be the best kiss of your life thus far.
Sure his car broke down, but you kissed him anyway. He tasted of the complimentary chocolate dessert from dinner.

A Year Later
A young, admittedly broke couple sat on the cold floor of the unpacked kitchen eating SpaghettiOs. You had only just moved into the studio apartment with Charlie that had drained most of your savings. Had it not been in a decently safe area in the city and a close commute you would have said no.
But it was the perfect starting place for you two as you both were unfamiliar with living with an SO. It sucked on each of your ends to not have a better situation, Charlie wanted nothing more than to spoil you on the first day living together. Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible but sitting on the floor with a cheap candle was imperfectly perfect.
“I’m sorry we’re eating out of cans.” Charlie whispered pointedly, keeping his eyes on the spoon, stirring the red sauce with the beige circles.
“Char this is perfect. As long as it’s you and I then anything is perfect. Besides we didn’t label the boxes, I have no idea which box has our kitchenware.” You admitted glancing at the boxes boarding the edge of the room.
You ate out of cans for at least a week before you had unpacked the kitchen and had the means to buy actual groceries. Living together thus far had been going super smooth until wasn’t.
It was a bad day on both your parts, your entire work was deleted after a computer glitch. Charlie had auditioned for a role he had been really really wanting since he heard about it. Your father came down with the flu axing the plans to meet for dinner; it would have been the first time in six months you saw him in person.
The apartment's atmosphere had been rising and very volatile by mid-afternoon when Charlie blatantly forgot a deal. If he was going to play music, it had to be in the study so you could focus on your work.
Today he’d decided to be in close vicinity to have a virtual jam session with both Owen and Jeremy. He’d chosen the room you were in solely because it had the best wifi reception which you needed as well.
“Charlie, please can you go to the study? I’m trying to finish this!” You cried out as he struck a chord on the electric. His eyebrows came other in the glare he sent you, “I lost all my work last night.”
“The guys and I are working on songs-”
“-Charlie, this is due tonight. I can’t concentrate with-”
“It’s not my fault you have a shitty attention span!” Charlie angrily snapped contradicting the gentle touch on his guitar. He placed it back on the stand to not accidentally damage it, “The wifi is best in this room.”
“I’m very much aware of that Charlie. Out of the two of us, I use it the most. Can you please either move to the study or at least wait an hour so I can finish?” You pleaded with the Canadian actor ignoring the two guys on the computer silently waiting for the fight to be over.
“Why can't you mov-”
“Fine. I will.” You fully stared down your boyfriend for a full five seconds before you harshly closed the top of your computer. It took seconds to gather your work stuff into the leather satchel you stored the computer in, “You didn’t even mute the call.”
Charlie watched as you swiftly pulled on your jacket, “Babe-”
The sound of the door slamming shut cut his sentence before he even had a chance to speak his thoughts. The apartment was eerily silent compared to the sounds of music that always played through the Bluetooth speaker.
The inspiration to play evaporated with the aftermath of a stupid argument permeated the apartment typically filled with love. All three actors quietly said their goodbyes before they ended the video call.
You spent an hour uncomfortably sitting in a cafe finishing up what you’d needed to finish with the argument replaying. Your finger barely hit the button to send the email before you had already stepped outside the business. You spent the walk struggling to draft a text to your boyfriend.
It didn’t matter because when you walked into the apartment, you heard the soft song you’d both deemed yours. It was cheesy, but that was part of Charlie’s charm. Speaking of your boyfriend, he was sat on the floor of your kitchen with matching mugs of brownies.
“I’m sorry. I was insensitive.” Charlie started as soon as your jacket was draped over one of the kitchen chairs. His usually wide smile was as bashful as the one he’d worn on the night of your first date.
“No I’m sorry, Charlie. I could have easily put on my headphones or moved to the bedroom for a bit. The fight was stupid, and I love you so much that sometimes I think I take you for granted. I mean, look at you! You made the brownie cups-”
“Even sitting on the cold floor like when we moved in.” Charlie cheekily inserted, reaching over to hold your hands in his, “I like our tradition. I definitely like how we upgraded from SpaghettiOs to brownies.”
“Me too.” You breathed leaning over to press a lingering kiss on his lips. His hands delving into your hair to keep you close.
The butterflies stormed your stomach as the heat slowly inflated from your toes until it reached your flushing cheeks. Raw emotion pouring into the passionate kiss that only closed down as you broke for air. But you also went back in as that warmth slowly built in your tummies. Charlie’s eyes marginally opened to ensure he wasn’t imagining the Angel he got to kiss.
Finally, with heavy breathing, you pulled apart, but only a fleeting moment froze the time in the apartment. For, as soon as Charlie caught your dilated pupils, his one hand cupped the back of your hand, fingers tangled in your h/c tresses.
Soon enough, you were making up on the kitchen floor with each article of clothing tossed in the vicinity. A shirt landed on the kitchen sink spout. The brownie mugs forgotten as you gave into the passion with your boyfriend. Your lovemaking had you missing supper.
Charlie’s solution was a trip to the local authentic English pub founded by a nice guy from London. You never failed to stop him for a dance in the empty street as his smooth voice gave music for smooth motions. Dancing was a common thing from pulling off the road in Dieppe to dance. You drank and danced at the pub until Jack cut you off at 2am as his pub rules had.
You and Charlie just laughed in a love bubble as the real-world worries faded because you always came together in the rough times.
Months later you returned to Dieppe with Charlie to spend the holidays with them. The entire family together creating such a welcoming atmosphere.
“I’m gonna grab a glass of water.” You informed the group of gals ad non-binary pals who had gathered in Meghan’s bedroom. The group had decided to sleep over Meg’s childhood room with face masks, nail polish and lovely wine.
Meg and Jeannette both nodded to acknowledge your announcement before they returned to their respective conversations. You took a moment to take in the great group of Gillespie and Co you had the honour to be part of. The thirst was only temporarily forgotten in the happy bubble you found yourself in.
You practically skipped to the kitchen, barely noticing the two people in the living room, but their words stopped you in your tracks. Your boyfriend, Charlie Gillespie, stood close to his older brothers Ryan, Patrick and Michael.
“I’m gonna ask her to marry-” Charlie caught himself from finishing the sentence when he saw you standing pale-faced at the opening into the living room.
His entire body was encapsulated by the lights casting in the living room from the Christmas tree. The tree couldn’t hold a candle to the ring of your dreams that promptly had you bursting into tears.
“I RUINED THE SURPRISE!” You sobbed dropping your face into your cold hands, avoiding the gaze of the Gillespie brothers. Had you not been hiding in your hands you would have known the older three had vacated the room.
“Hey, it’s okay.” Charlie cooed with the ring safely put away in the box he had shoved back in his pocket, “You didn’t ruin the surprise. I shouldn’t have been telling my brothers in the middle of the living room.”
Charlie’s warm hands slowly pulled your hands from your soft post-mask skin with such a pretty healthy glow. He could see the remnants of the mask on the edge of your scalp, but it didn’t take away from your beauty.
“I’m sorry.” You whispered, staring up at him from underneath your eyelashes. The soft hazel eyes not upset in the least, things often didn’t go the way you wanted to together.
Take the first date from over two years ago where you and Charlie had waited for Owen to meet you with a jug of gas. You’d shared childhood stories and future dreams. Or the time you hadn’t marked the boxes creating an entire week of eating out of cans and cartons.
Ruining the proposal was almost expected at this rate.
“I knew from the moment I saw you in that emerald dress I knew that you were the One for me. I’ve adored each moment I’ve gotten with you from the spontaneous dances on the side of the road. To bursting into song in the middle of the street.” Charlie shakily started with sweating bands but an open heart, “When your best friend told me the emerald dress was the special one, it melted my heart.”
“Charlie.”
“Other than my belief that this relationship will last, I was only ever sure of one thing in my life. I was sure I would be an actor, but now I’m more sure that my favourite role will be supporting you, loving you and evolving with you as your husband.” Charlie sniffled, taking one hand from yours to wipe the tears flooding his cheeks, “Will you marry me?”
“Yes.” You breathed lunging on your tiptoes to kiss him with as much passion as you could. Your hands caressed the skin of his cheeks; his long tresses tickling your wrists.
“God I love you.” Charlie gushed with a gentle shake of his head. His hazel pinned to your e/c eyes as if you were the most precious gem in the world.
A voice cut the bubble enveloping you, “Well are you gonna put the ring on her finger or what?”
Charlie’s head moved to meet the teary eyes of his mother surrounded by his siblings as they bounced on their feet. You laughed as your now fiance clumsily rushed to slide the absolutely gorgeous ring on your finger.
“Welcome to the family officially.” Jeannette cheered along with the celebratory whistles and yells as the crowd of the family grew more and more. Soon enough, the entire room was overflowing with people congratulating your new engagement.
Months later, you stood in front of that same group holding the hands of your handsome fiance. Both dressed to the nines in front of the officiant.
“I wasn’t looking for a fairytale, because they all end the same. The princess has a conflict that she revolves with the help of the prince. They get married and live happily ever after. I adore how we’re writing our own story that fits our relationship. Charlie Gillespie, I wouldn’t change a thing about our lives. I wouldn’t have it any other way even with the fighting and slamming doors, but we always end up on our kitchen floor making up with two brownies in mugs.” Your vows brought tears among the onlookers along with the Canadian barely keeping it together.
The vows would later be eloquently transformed into lyrics from you with the accompanying melody provided by Charlie. On Valentine’s Day, you played the song on the kitchen floor with a plate of brownies. Three brownies waiting to be devoured.
“Three for each of us.” You wept as you watched as Charlie melted into a puddle of joyful tears. He took no time in placing his hand over your flat stomach.
Yeah, you wouldn’t have it any other way. Especially when Valentine’s Day become more to the Gillespie family; a new little love taking up the day.

Love Is In Bloom Chapter 15: Bitter Confrontation
Henry is missing and everyone doesn't know where he is. Rupert on the other hand, knows where he is and will do anything to get Henry back.
After many rounds of sex, they were taking a break. Henry was sitting on the bed holding a picture, a picture of him, Charles, Ellie, Victoria, and....Rupert. He ripped Rupert's face off the picture, it was serving a bitter reminder for Henry.
Henry's POV
I stared at the picture as I sighed heavily.
"Despite everything...I can't get rid of you completely." I said to myself.
I felt my face became warm and red as I blushed slightly while I still stared at the picture.
No One's POV
Dominic was sitting in bed while holding a cigarette,he was smoking it till he noticed Henry. Henry was still naked, looking at the same picture with a sad expression on his face.
Dominic put out his cigarette as he chucked, "Hehe." Dominic smirked."That photo must be...quite interesting, my diamond."
"Huh?" Henry said, distracted.
He was so busy thinking about how he left his family, friends, and...Rupert...Rupert wasn't his anything. He didn't checked his phone cause he knew everyone will try to contact him some way, he blocked all of their numbers. They all must be worried sick by now...
"O-oh...it's nothing...just...excuse me...I-I'll stop distracting myself." said Henry, voice cracking and feeling a pang in his heart.
Dominic raised an eyebrow at Henry, he could sense a sadness in his voice. He also noticed that Henry was holding a picture, he held up his hand. He signaled Henry to glanced at him, Henry stared at Dominic's hand in confusion.
"Uh?"
"Let me check it...the photo I mean."
"Mmmmnng."
Henry hesitated at first, Dominic still held out his hand.
"What? It's just a photo." Dominic said, irritated. "It's not a big deal."
"You're right, I'm sorry love..." replied Henry, sadly. "Here, just be careful...it's an old photo, hold it carefully."
Henry gave Dominic the photo to look at, Dominic studied the photo while Henry was watching him.
"Um...so...it's you and your friends. Your friends are there just like you talked about them." Dominic said, as he was still holding the photo. "You look cute as always."
Then Dominic noticed there was a rip in the picture where one of Henry's friends are, "But...that one." Dominic continued, pointing to Rupert's rip face. "This one."
"Hehe...it looks...like you ripped it on purpose."
Henry glanced up at Dominic as he still pointed at Rupert's ripped face, Henry was getting anxious and was still feeling sad.
"Who is it?"
Henry's eyes widened when he heard Dominic asked that, Dominic was still pointing at the picture.
"What did you say?" asked Henry, anxiously.
"This guy. Who is it?" replied Dominic, pointing to Rupert's rip half.
"It's.... nobody." said Henry, lowly while trembling and sweating.
"Nobody. C'mon honey...how's that possible? It has to be someone, right?" Dominic scoffed. "No one... wow, that's unbelievable... I don't think it's nobody... I think it's someone..."
"Maybe... it's your old friend who you use to work with? Did you had fight with him? It is easy to deduce. What's his name?"
Henry's eyes widened as Dominic asked the question he was avoiding, he then remembered that after all this time Dominic was fucking him...he was screaming Rupert's name and only Rupert's name. "Rupert~! Rupy! AHHH~! RUPERT~!" Henry moaned as Rupert's names so many times in many rounds of sex with Dominic.
"!!!~R U P E R T~!!!"
"It's not s-someone important...I already told y-you...nobody..." lied Henry, his eyes still widened in fear.
"Then WHY DO YOU KEEP SAYING THAT NAME?!?!?! WHO. IS. RUPERT?!?!" bellowed Dominic, angrily.
Henry jumped in fear as Dominic yelled at him, he turned away from him in fear. He doesn't want to tell him...about Rupert, he has no other choice...guess he has to seduce Dominic.
"N-It's nobody... it doesn't matter... you don't need to know... It's not important." replied Henry, still not looking at Dominic.
Then Henry without warning, he took the photo from Dominic which made Dominic confused. "You overthink things, Dominic. When you should pay attention to me. What do they matter now? It's just... You and me now..." Henry said, smiling as he started to rip the photo in slowly in half.
"You fought so hard to convince me... And now that you have me at your mercy... Aren't you going to get curious? Hehehe..."
Henry ripped the photo in two while still seducing Dominic, he spread his legs open, exposing his cock in the process.
"Dom... silly... You should put that curiosity aside."
"And start a new chapter with the love of your life... I mean me... That's what you've always wanted... isn't it? Because I... I want that as much as you." Henry continued, seductively.
"H-Hen, what?" Dominic said, as his eyes widened as Henry kissed him softly. "Hm!"
"Hehehe... I think I should put you in your place" Henry said, sultry as he puts his finger at Dominic's lips while Dominic was blushing. "So...what are you waiting for?"
Outside of Dominic's mansion, Rupert was standing a few feet away from the front gate. He had Terrence's gun in his right hand while his left hand was clenched into a fist, he was mad...mad as hell. His eyes were red as if he was...possessed by a demon, he growled lowly as he saw guards standing in front of the gate.
"It's just you and me, my love... your diamond is very happy." Henry said, still continuing.
It took some time but Rupert finally managed to find where Dominic lives, he watched the guards as they were busy talking to each other instead of doing their jobs. Rupert smirked as he started to walk slowly to the entrance, this should be easy.
"Do you want to ruin our moments together? Hmm, I don't want that, Dom."
The guards were talking when they spotted Rupert walking towards them, they started to run towards while holding their guns up.
"Hey, you!" The first guard said, livid. "You can't pass!!"
Rupert shot the first guard, luckily in a non-fatal area. The second guard stopped running as the first guard dropped to the ground in pain, Rupert watched the first guard in difference as he struggled while the second guard stared at his fallen comrade and Rupert. Rupert the glanced at the second guard in rage, the second guard tried to shoot Rupert but Rupert was too fast. He dodged as he went shot the gun outta of the second guard's hand, the second guard cried out in pain. Rupert then knocked out the second guard with his own gun, once the two guards were taking of, Rupert headed to the mansion.
"You made me a proposal, Dominic... and I accepted... and here I am. What happened to me... that's history... we must forget it..."
Meanwhile with Dominic and Henry, Henry was still seducing Dominic. In fact, Dominic and Henry were so busy in their own little world that they didn't hear the commotion outside.
"I have started something new... and exciting... we should celebrate... that somehow." said Henry, smiling as he started to crawl slowly towards Dominic. "Henry Stickmin... will become... Henry Daemon... as if we were married."
"H-Henry?" Dominic stuttered, red as tomato. He was getting turned on by Henry's seducing.
Rupert got to the gate, after he knocked out the two guards. He walked inside and saw a beautiful garden. He scoffed at the garden as he walked to further down the path leading to the door of the mansion, he didn't have time to smell the roses. He chuckled darkly at his own joke as he got closer to the door, he got a dagger while still holing his gun as he got to the door.
"So? You're going to continue to misbehave, Dom?" questioned Henry, sultry as looked into Dominic's eyes. "Do you need me to punish you? Although normally, it's me who you punish?"
"Oh, you... ruffian. You are so adorable." Dominic replied, with a smug tone.
"I guess... ,y little diamond is absolutely right... forgive me, sweetie... I promise not to be so curious and..." Dominic smirked, as Henry leaned close to him to kiss him.  "Give what you want..."
Henry closed his eyes and kissed Dominic, Dominic also kissed Henry but then...
BANG!
The door was shot wide open which made the two men pulled apart, they snapped back to reality from their kiss. Their eyes were widened in shock,  "What the...?" Dominic asked, in shock and anger while holding Henry by his shoulders.
"W-what was that?!"Henry asked, in shock.
"WHERE ARE YOU?!?!?!" screamed Rupert, in rage.
He was now inside Dominic's mansion, the door to Dominic's mansion was destroyed. Henry's eyes widened, that was Rupert's voice. Henry begin to trembled as Dominic sat up while looking very angry and possessive.
"Stay here, Hen..." Dominic told Henry, as he put his hand on Henry's cheek while he was behind Dominic. "I will check."
"D-Dominic?" Henry asked, in fear as he covered himself with blanket.
Dominic got up and puts his pants and buttons them.
"Geez... when everything is getting interesting and fun..." Dominic muttered, annoyed as he started to leave the bedroom. "They come to fucking ruin it..."
"D-Dominic!"
Henry was panicking and trembling as he watched Dominic finishing putting on his pants, "HENRY!!!!!" screamed Rupert, again.
Henry was so scared right now, he watched Dominic go out of the room, Dominic was now in the hallway. He spotted Rupert holding a gun, and a knife. Dominic was fucking irritated, Rupert was looking around the mansion when he heard footsteps coming out.
"You..." Rupert murmured, as he glanced up to spot Dominic and gave him the most hostile glare.  His eyes were still red and he bared his teeth like a wild animal would to show dominance.
Both of them were staring at each other for the moment till Dominic broke the silence, "Hehehe...." Dominic chuckled, lowly as he smirked. Rupert on the other hand, looked like he wanted to beat and kill Dominic.
"Oh! Look what we have here! A spiky hair thug in military's uniform? Thugs are seen as violent lawless people unlike Toppats. I wonder how did you get to join the military in the first place. Did you come to steal my stuff? How rude." Dominic teased, while still smirking, he's not taking the situation seriously.
"Nnnggg..." growled Rupert, lowly.
Rupert hated to be compare to a criminal but...he was acting crazy...but right now he doesn't care, he wants Henry back and he will do anything to get him back. "Where is he?" Rupert asked, lowly.
"What? You came for money? I can give you a tour if you want!" Dominic teased.
"YOU FUCKING DAMN BASTARD!!!!! STOP PLAYING WITH ME!!!!" Rupert bellowed, he had enough of Dominic's shit.
"WHERE DO YOU KEEP MY DIAMOND?!?!?!?! YOU HAVE 12 SECONDS OR I WILL FUCKING SHOOT YOUR FUCKING HEAD OFF!!!" Rupert threaten Dominic, as he pointed the gun at him.
"Dominic!!" Henry screamed, in worry as he came out of the room with only his boxers on. "S-Stop! Please! He is dangerous!!"
"H-Hen.." gasped Rupert, as his eyes widened and he lower his gun a little.
"Henry? I told you to stay in there! Don't come closer! This lunatic is crazy!" Dominic exclaimed, as he turned to Henry. "I will take care of him... go back!"
"B-But Dominic!" Henry replied, as he touched Dominic's arm.
Rupert saw how Henry touched Dominic's arm in a tender way, his heart broke into pieces. However, watching the display made his rage grow more large.
"HENRY!!! COME BACK IN THIS INSTANT!!!" Rupert ordered, firmly which made Henry hug Dominic in response.
"A-Ah! No ! G-Go Away!!" Henry screamed, in fear as he started to sob for a bit.
"Good lord! Just look how you scare him!" Dominic yelled, as he hugged Henry, feeling angry. "Are you expecting him to come back to you like this?!?! You crazy asshole!!"
"For all this... WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU?!?!"
Rupert froze for a moment, he never expected that question. That got Henry's attention, his eyes widened as he got confused. Rupert stared at them for a moment until a dark thought came into his mind, he chuckled and smiled darkly.
"Hehehe... who I am?" Rupert smiled, wickedly. Rupert never felt this way before, he was surprised at himself but on the other hand, he never felt so alive.
"Really? Oh Henry... where are your manners? Not telling him who I am? That's rude..." Rupert continued, still smiling.
Henry was staring at Rupert and so was Dominic, they didn't like the smile on Rupert's face. It was...creepy...too creepy, Dominic was concerned on what Rupert was talking about. While Henry looked very worried and he was sobbing quietly.
"But I guess I should tell your "boyfriend" . . . . . WHO. AM. I."
"Good night! My name is... R U P E R T P R I C E. I'm one of H E N R Y's friends. And...." chirped Rupert, nonchalantly. He seemed normal at the moment till he smiled wickedly again, and his expression was insane.
"I'm the one who took H E N R Y'S VIRGINITY."
Henry's eyes widened as he started sobbing some more while tears brew in his eyes, he looked at Dominic's reaction. Dominic's expression was shock as he trembled, Rupert had a smug look on his face while still smiling.
A/N: It's official...Rupert you have gone full crazy...heck you got full blown yandere! You crazy bastard...
Btw, I'm planning on making a Yandere Rupert AU. Which makes this even better!

Page Eighty-Three- Kaz Brekker
Real (Page Eighty-Three series, part 3)
And thus, here we arrive at the end of the Page Eighty-Three series! I’ve been working on it almost a week now, and had the idea brewing in my brain for two weeks beforehand, so, considering the way that I’ve chosen to publish all the parts, it’s not gonna be a very emotional goodbye for you guys, but for me, oddly enough, it is?
Its the first fic I’ve done that’s been more than two parts, and I guess that adds to it? I don’t know! But, anyways, on with it!
Also, a gentle reminder, I only have Kaz being a little on the touchier side because this is a bit of an AU of sorts, and they’re around twenty four in this last part, which gave him time to work on his trauma more and get comfortable with touch!
Fic type- fluffy as fuck
Warnings- a very brief mention of the flashback in the first chapter (to be specific, nina says ‘stopped you from getting hatecrimed’) and a brief sexual innuendo
Tumblr media
T H R E E Y E A R S L A T E R
You knocked out after you’d killed your father, and went home completely unconscious on Inej’s boat, tucked onto a cot with Kaz at your side. Genya had decided to spend a little time around Ketterdam, get to know the ins and outs and provide intel for Nikolai when he asked for it, and Nina had decided that her home could be Ketterdam for four months of every year.
Inej did her thing, catching and killing slavers all around the globe, but her visits to Ketterdam became more frequent after you’d gotten back.
Jesper took your amplifier and made it a project for himself, removing the claw from the obsidian and instead using his fabrikator abilities to turn it into a bracelet that you wore on your right hand, made of gold, with the claw dulled out so that it didn’t poke you when you moved your wrist.
A year after you’d returned home, when yourself and Kaz had gone into his office one morning, book clutched in one of your hands, the other interlaced with Kaz’s fingers, you found a box sitting on his desk.
A note from Zoya was taped to the top of it.
A top tier bitch deserves a top tier amplifier, it read. Bracelet. Wear it on your right wrist. It’ll go with the bear claw wrapped in gold.
You kept the note, reading it to yourself whenever you needed a laugh, giggling about it with Nina when she needed a laugh, too.
All of those small moments ended up leading to a much bigger one, though. The day that Kaz proposed.
It was a pretty simple proposal, but you loved it.
--
“I had to get advice from Jes about this,” was how he started it, even before he’d gotten down onto one knee. “He proposed to Wylan in the fall, and I know that the Winter makes Ketterdam look absolutely stunning, and I know that you like the scenery, so, well, here we are.”
You’d been walking around Ketterdam, the clicking of Kaz’s cane against the pavement a soothing sound for the both of you.
You’d managed to make it near the outskirts of Ketterdam just by walking, as Kaz’s leg was being decent to him and he wanted to walk until you’d arrived at one of the more scenic spots. You indulged him for the sake of it, making sure you took breaks and that he got water when he was tired.
It’d been snowing, and the sky had yet to darken beyond a light grey. You and Kaz both had snow in your hair, but to one another, it just added to handsomeness, so neither of you moved to brush the snow out of your hair or off your faces.
“When we were seventeen,” he began, feeling for the box in his pocket. The one with a ring inside, cushioned by red, velvety fabric. “You read me a quote from the book I’d gotten you that day. You’ve memorized just about every poem in it since, and I happen to have done the same thing.”
“The quote that you read to me was from The Sun and Her Flowers. It was on page eighty three,” he grinned at you, a fully fledged smile. Something he saved for you and you exclusively.
“I’m going to change the wording a bit, because it’s in the past tense, and we’re not past tense. The quote was ‘you were mine, and my life was full,’,” he said. “I’m changing it to ‘you are mine, and my life is full.’ Because thats how I feel.”
“Kaz?” You asked. “Do you have something planned?” He raised an eyebrow at you as he clutched the box.
“I suck at words, so, from Rupi Kaurs book Milk and Honey, I offer you this,” he carefully got down onto a knee, using his cane to keep him steady for a few quiet moments as you realized what was happening.
“‘You are every hope and dream I’ve ever had, in human form.” He pulled out the ring, opening the box and holding it out to you. “That’s page forty nine, love.”
“If you can’t think of an answer, please, just-- anything works,” if Jesper had told sixteen year old Kaz Brekker that he’d end up on his knees, begging you for a response to his proposal at just twenty two, he’d have called Jesper crazy.
“Yes,” you mumbled. “Yes, Kaz Brekker. If you’re asking me to marry you, it’s an immediate yes.” He used his cane to get himself up to standing again, slipping the ring onto your ring finger and accepting the hug that you pulled him into.
You were going to marry Kaz Brekker, the love of your life, and you couldn’t wait for it.
--
The day seemed to come at you quickly, even though you’d not set the date until Winter of year that you turned twenty four.
First, it was calling Nikolai and asking if you could cash in the reward for killing your father and doing him and the world a justice that they deserved, then it was finding suitable tuxedos and sending out invitations and planning a million different things at once.
But, eventually, you, Jesper, Wylan, Genya, and Nina, were all on Inejs boat, headed toward the Little Palace.
Then, all of the sudden, you were in the last stretch of time before the wedding. Alina, Mal, Genya, Zoya, and Nina were talking as Genya tailored you, getting rid of some of the blemishes and fixing up little things about your face that you’d asked her to tailor until the end of the ceremony.
“It’s weird,” Alina said, pressing a kiss to Mals cheek as she glanced at her own wedding ring. “I remember you as this fourteen year old boy who used to gawk at the attractive guys in the Second Army, the boy who resented his powers and swore at his father at any chance that he got, and now you’re and you’re completely different.”
“Different how?”
“Kaz Brekker,” Genya said, running her finger under one of your eyes gently, as to get rid of your eyebags. “He’s good for you.”
“And you don’t resent your powers anymore,” Zoya adds. “You don’t use them often, but you don’t resent them.”
“You use them, don’t you, mate?” Mal quipped. “Or were my eyes tricking me when I went to wake you and Brekker up this morning, only to find you keeping light out of your room with a flick of your bloody wrist?”
“I was tired,” you pouted. “Kaz and I both were!”
“Ah, newlyweds,” Nina joked.
“It’s not like that!” You shouted. “Zoya, help me out!”
“He’s able to kiss you now,” she said. “Like, with tongue and stuff. Theres no reason he wouldn’t be able to enjoy a fun little tumble with you here and there!”
“’Tongue, and stuff,’” Mal repeated. “Yes, Zoya, because, as a twenty six year old woman, that’s totally adult phrasing.”
“I wouldn’t have been able to describe it any better,” Nina quipped. Genya and Alina hummed their agreement as Genya moved to your hair, fluffing it and styling it so it that it looked nice as you adjusted the cuffs on your dress shirt.
“Wheres my blazer?” You asked, grabbing your tie from Genyas lap, tying it as she evened out some of the color near your roots.
“Closet,” Alina answered. “I’ll get it for you!” Mal checked his watch.
“We’ve got three minutes to get down there,” he said. “Lets make the most of Y/Ns remaining 180 seconds unmarried.” You laughed, rolling your eyes as Genya stood, helping you up after.
Nina shot Genya a glance, and she took the hint, ushering Alina, Mal and Zoya out of the room and passing Nina your blazer as she left.
Nina helped you into your blazer, running her thumb along your cheek with a smile.
“I never thought I’d see Kaz Brekker married,” she said. “But hey, I guess stopping you from getting hatecrimed had it’s benefits, didn’t it?”
You laughed, shrugging.
“I think that we’ll rebuild some of the Slat,” you said. “Make the rooms bigger. Get plaques declaring whos room is whos.”
“A golden plaque with Nina Zenik emblazoned on it?”
“Bolted to your bedroom door, Neens.”
“I love you, Morozova.” She said, trapping you into a tight hug.
“I love you back, Zenik.” You said. “Now, c’mon. I don’t think anyone would take too kindly to me being late for my own bloody wedding, would they?”
--
The wedding was small, taking place close to the entrance of the Little Palace. There were no chairs to sit on, but the few guests you’d invited didn’t mind it whatsoever.
The guest list was fairly small, considering your tight knit little family. Wylan was Kaz’s best man, Your best woman was Nina. The people standing in the small crowd were all familiar faces.
Wylans mother, Marya Hendriks, and Jespers father, Colm Fahey were the oldest there. Among them were Nikolai, Alina, Mal, Genya, Rotty and Specht, and the two members of the Dregs who’d originated the King of the Barrel nicknames. Their names were Terrowin and Kira, and when you caught their eyes, they were beaming at you both.
Jesper was officiating, and as you met his gaze, you remembered how he was practically bouncing off the walls the day that you’d asked him to officiate.
“Okay, now that they’re both here, we can begin!” Jesper couldn’t hide his excitement.
“Mr. Brekker,” Jesper laughed through the words. He’d not called Kaz ‘Mr. Brekker’ unless he was doing so in a jokey context. You knew that, had it been anyone elses wedding, they’d probably have gotten angry at Jesper for giggling through the words, but for you and Kaz, it just added to an already perfect day. “Do you take Y/N as your lawfully wedded husband?”
“I do,” he said.
“Mr. Morozova,” Jesper glanced at you, and you met his gaze, having to stifle laughter when you realized just how wide his grin was. How happy he seemed. He looked like he was about to start bouncing off the walls and screaming with joy. “Do you take Kaz as your lawfully wedded husband?”
“Hells yes,” you said, giggling slightly. For a moment, Kaz let his lips lift into a grin. You matched it with your own smile and took his hand into yours.
“You’ve prepared your own vows, so, Mr. Brekker, sir, you go first!” Kaz glanced at Jesper inquisitively, grin still on his face as he started talking and met your eye.
“I’ve loved you as long as I’ve known you,” he said. “And when my heart says something, I’ve learned to listen to it. I love you with my entire heart and so much more, and I hate that I’m not good with words, because that’s all I can say. Nothing else accurately cultivates the feelings I’ve felt for you since that night, when you were broken and bruised underneath that saintsforsaken lamplight. I promise to love you every minute of every day, Brekker.” You’d agreed to change your last name to his. You’d be Y/N Brekker by the end of the night.
“Mr. Brekker,” Jesper said. “Since you’ll be married in a few minutes and I have to get used to that last name on you, you may say your vows!”
“When I was fifteen, I was caught and beat broken by a group of eight eighteen year olds,” you began. “But you saved my ass before I was killed, and it seems as though our relationship has been a series of saves ever since. Kaz Brekker, with the ring I’m about to put on your finger, I’m promising that I’ll do that forever. Please, though, try to avoid getting yourself kidnapped too often, okay?” His chest shook in silent laughter as he nodded.
“The rings, gentlepeople?” Jesper asked, Nina passed you the ring you’d slip into Kaz’s finger, and Wylan passed Kaz the one he’d put onto yours.
“Put them on,” Jesper said. You and Kaz both glanced at him once more, meeting each others eye thereafter, grinning and shaking your heads. It’d become very clear to you that the twenty four year old who you’d recruited to officiate your wedding was damn near close to letting out an excited squeal.
Kaz put the ring onto your ring finger and you did the same for him, waiting for Jespers next words as you took a half a step closer to Kaz.
“Kiss, you idiots!” Jesper said. Kaz laughed, pulling you close and pressing a kiss to your forehead.
He’d kiss you like nothing else later in the evening, when the only thing to bug you was a lamp that you’d left on, but you both agreed that a forehead kiss would be as far as you’d go in front of others. Kisses, to Kaz, were personal, and you respected and loved that about him.
“Saints, bless this fuckin’ union!” Jesper shouted. You glanced at Alina, who shot you a thumbs up and a nod as the party part of the wedding kicked off.
Terrowin and Kira were the first people that you and Kaz talked to.
“Did you secure it?” He asked.
“The property?” Terrowin was a Zemeni boy, with skin dark as night and eyes as warm as the sun.
“Or the trip?” Asked Kira, a girl from Shu Han with hair black as the feathers on a crow and blue eyes as cold as the Fjerdan ice.
“The property, first and foremost,” he said. “Did you get it? Did you give it the name I asked you to?”
“Yes, and yes,” said Terrowin. “Beside The Silver Six is a bookstore called Page Eighty-Three. It’s scheduled to open in the fall.” Your eyes widened as you made the connection.
“Page eighty-three?” You asked, smirk on your lips. Kaz shrugged.
“And the request?”
“The line from the poem will be put on the wall behind the clerks counter,” Kira said. “Just as you requested.”
“And the trip?”
“Your boat for Novyi Zem leaves in two days, Boss,” Kira said. “Two bells in the afternoon. It’s directly routed to Coftons docks.” Kaz nodded.
“Thank you,” he said. “We’ll see you when Page Eighty-Three opens.”
“Damn right we will,” you said. Terrowin and Kira laughed as they walked away.
You glanced around the room, spotting Jesper and Wylan perched at a piano, playing the music that everyone was dancing to. Marya and Colm dancing close to them. Nina and Zoya dancing like idiots and laughing throughout. Mal and Inej making conversation and Genya and Alina heading your way.
“Congrats, you two,” Genya said. “Can I expect to see you both tanned and rested up when you get back from Novyi Zem?”
“You’ll be in Ketterdam?” You asked. Genya nodded.
“For a couple of months, to make sure that your Jesper friend doesn’t colossally fuck things up while your friend Inej is doing her thing on the open ocean,” Alina said. “I’m there to visit for a bit, under the radar.”
“Thank you, Alina,” he said. “Thank you both. For everything that you’ve done in these past years.”
“No biggie, Brekker,” Alina said. “I don’t know you that well, but I see how happy you make Y/N, and he’s like a little brother. I care about his happiness.”
“You two are absolutely bloody adorable,” Genya said. “Now, back to my question, will you be tan, or at the very least, well rested, upon your return?”
“Kaz is pale,” you said. “He’ll burn like a crisp. Me? I don’t really know. I guess it depends.”
“We’ll be well rested,” Kaz said. “He’s a darkling. He can create shadow. I fully intend to use that to keep the sun out in the mornings.”
“I won’t do whatever you ask of me!” You quipped.
“You had no issue with that last night,” he said, raising a teasing eyebrow. “Or this morning!”
“Mal was right!” Alina shouted, her and Genya bursting into giggles. “Damn it, I hate it when that happens!” You laughed.
You took another glance around you, spotting your friends.
No, wait. Scratch that.
Not your friends.
Your family.
Your family was having a good time, eating, talking, dancing, laughing. They were enjoying themselves and congratulating you as you talked to Alina and Genya.
Kaz had an arm around your waist, his cheek pressed against the side of your head as his other hand gently turned your wedding ring around on your finger. He was talking to people without arguing with them. He was holding you like you were the only thing that mattered to him.
Your life was perfect.
Kaz was yours, you were his, and your life was full.

Keeping in mind Digital Payments in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch a voucher based digital payment platform on August 2, called e-Rupi.  It’ll be a historic moment for the country as this will be our first step towards Digital Currency. As per claims, e-Rupi is going to be a person-specific and purpose-specific payments system.

Note
what are some must read books in ur opinion?
i’ve gotten this question a few times and there’s a general mix of things under the book recs tag here, but otherwise, as a general rule, i don’t believe in ‘must read’; what i do believe in is reading as widely, openly and diversely as possible and following your own instincts and impulses throughout it all. where classics are concerned, given how ridiculously limited the canon has been for so long, i like to supplement each work with something from a different perspective, just to hear it spoken from the other side because that’s what’s important to me.
so if you’ve read tropic of cancer by henry miller, read paris when it’s naked by etel adnan.
if you love the expansive, multi-layered poetry of t.s. eliot then read the selected poems of adonis (or the pages of day and night as an introduction),
for classic works focused on war and strife and the devastation of it all: maus by art spiegelman, persepolis by marjane satrapi, the war works hard by dunya mikhail, death and the maiden by ariel dorfman, a thousand splendid suns by khaled hosseini. for the things they carried by tim o’brien try: the sympathizer by viet thanh nguyen, on earth we’re briefly gorgeous by ocean vuong.
for the gothic imagination of edgar allen poe and bram stoker add: angela carter, daphne du maurier, shirley jackson, or, if you’re more contemporarily inclined: carmen maria machado & kelly link
magical realism that isn’t gabriel garcía márquez: ben okri, amos tutuola, isabel allende, laura esquivel.
epic poetry / classical texts that aren’t roman or greek: the ramayana, the epic of gilgamesh, the tale of genji.
i hate bukowski and am not the biggest fan of the beats but if they’re your thing try: erica jong, kim addonizio, dorianne laux, diane di prima, elise cowen – or you can broaden even further: the dub poetry of michael smith or linton kwesi johnson - and while we’re on that: louise bennet, or edward kamau brathwaite (multi-layered, pushing the boundaries of language with a post-colonial perspective)
if you like e.e. cummings and pushing the boundaries of language and form with writers like aram saroyan, try ca conrad,
love dickens? try elizabeth gaskell or zadie smith.
love 1984? read we by yevgeny zemyatin who not only inspired it, but lived it.
for every walden or book like it, try basho’s narrow road to the deep north or rebecca solnit’s wanderlust.
love tolkien, asimov, bradbury? try: ursula k. le guin, octavia e. butler
want intense, challenging reads on the often violent mires of identity and ideas of self-hood? try toni morrison. want it mingled with kafka-esque absurdity? try invisible man by ralph ellison.
want breathless interiority or philosophical examinations à la camus’ the stranger? try clarice lispector’s the apple in the dark (other female writers also worth the look: sarah kane, forugh farrokhazad, alejandra pizarnik, see also: norah lange’s the people in the room)
i’m also not the biggest fan of rupi kaur (at. all.) but if you like her: maram al-massri’s barefoot souls is hauntingly beautiful and concise.
also this goes without saying but even so: you can’t ever read conrad’s heart of darkness, and not read: chinua achebe, aime cesaire, ngũgĩ wa thiong'o
read simone de beauvoir? then read nawal el saadawi & arundhati roy
love pablo neruda? try nizar qabbani, mahmoud darwish, saadi youssef (and while we’re on them: as gorgeous as their love poems are, they write just as beautifully on exile as any eastern european / soviet writer, to which i’ll add nathalie handal’s the neverfield)
like, this is by no means definitive and is a very, very rough list of examples, the vast majority personal. but my point is that the only ‘should’ i follow in reading is being careful of reducing your experiences to one voice, one standard, one culture. it’s a human experience, and a human heritage. that heritage is so much broader than a canon of straight white men. there is another voice, always, and i think we should all do our best to try and find it whenever we can.

Best and Worst Books of 2020
This has been a mess of a year for everyone, but I actually managed to get a lot of books read. I decided to repeat this post from last year because I enjoyed going back through all the things I read and remembering how I felt about them.
I’ll try to avoid any repeats, but I’m sure it’ll happen at some point. If you want more info about my feelings on these books, check out my ratings and reviews on GoodReads.
Best Sci-Fi: This one was such an easy pick for me. All Systems Red by Martha Wells. This whole series just knocks it out of the park. The Murderbot Diaries is a series about a Security Bot who hacks their governor module so they can just watch their shows all day. Too bad the humans they’re assigned to protect are getting into trouble left and right. Worst Sci-Fi: Starstruck by Brenda Hiatt. I remember this being a free e-book that I picked up this year. I explained it to my husband as a sci-fi version of Twilight. You get a small town nerdy girl with few friends who suddenly becomes important when this alien boy pays attention to her. It was definitely a book of its time. Best Fantasy: A Fantasy that I really enjoyed this year was Fable by Adrienne Young. It is about a girl whose pirate father leaves her stranded on a deserted island after her mother dies. If she can survive, she can find her way back to him and receive her inheritance. It goes in depth about family and friendship. Plus found families. Am I right? Worst Fantasy: The Magicians by Lev Grossman. Oh boy. How do I get into it with this one without regurgitating my review? I had a problem with the author taking all of the best known magical stories of all time and twisting them throughout this dense book in order to point out that magic is a problem to be dealt with and not all unicorns and rainbows--just to rip that point out of the reader’s hands in the last four pages of the novel. Please read my review I go so in depth there. Best Contemporary: Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson. I think this was mostly just that I read this book at the right time. This book is about a family who is going through a hard time when the father is diagnosed with terminal cancer. They decide to spend one final summer at their cabin on the lake before he passes. I distinctly remember crying my eyes out at the end of this one and it hitting me so hard. Worst Contemporary: Girls in the Moon by Janet McNally. This was a Book of the Month pick for me at a time when they had less variety in their options. I felt like I couldn’t keep pushing back my picks every month. It’s a story about this rock band family who divorced in the late 90s and the fall out for their two children while one moves to New York to pursue a music career. A lot of fluff and almost no substance. Best Mystery: This is the year I realized that I like YA Mystery novels and not a lot else in the mystery genre. I had a three way tie for best Mystery and they call came from the YA Age Range. The Hand on the Wall by Maureen Johnson, In the Hall with the Knife by Diana Peterfreund, and The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. These were all done so well and all taking the things I love about mysteries and twisting them. Worst Mystery: In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware. I had heard so many amazing things about this book, but it fell so flat for me. I hate unreliable narrators. Why are they necessary in this genre? I feel like if you need an unreliable narrator to write a good mystery then you’re a bad mystery author. Best YA: Traitor to the Throne by Alwyn Hamilton. This is book 2 in the Rebel of the Sands series. It’s a desert Fantasy that is written so well. The world building is fantastic. We have a rebellion, magic, and some amazing characters. In book two we see Amani thrust into court politics. I marathoned this whole series in a couple of weeks and loved the adventure. Worst YA: The worst YA book I read this year was Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke. I felt like the story went no where and the writing was overly flowery. I’m sure it does good things for some people but it’s the polar opposite of what I love in books. Best Adult: For this one we have a two way tie. The first book is House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City #1) by Sarah J. Maas. Is this the next great American novel? Of course not. But I had an amazing time reading this book. I felt so many feelings and the world building was fantastic. The second book is In A Holidaze by Christina Lauren. I read an ARC of this for my Christmas in July and enjoyed it so much I had to read it again right before Christmas. It was perfect for getting in the Christmas spirit.  Worst Adult: This category is also a two way tie. I read The Broken Girls by Simone St. James and thoroughly disliked the mystery aspect of the story. I felt like it was left too open ended and it completely put me off. The second is a book of poetry called Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur. It felt like a lot of these poems were incomplete thoughts. Maybe it’s how open it is too interpretation again, but I really did not like this at all. Best New Release: This feels like the hardest category to pick from. If we’re going based on ratings, Check, Please! Volume #2: Sticks and Scones is the highest rated new release that I read this year. But I also have a couple of YA Mystery novels that I read this year that I loved and that stuck with me throughout the year. The first is The Hand on the Wall by Maureen Johnson which is the third book in the Truly Devious series and finishes out that mystery arc. The second is The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes which I have been raving about since I read it this fall. The Inheritances games is the first book in a new series that is like a combination of Knives Out and Clue plus puzzles minus a few murders. It’s just so good. So, a top three for this category I guess. Worst New Release: The Bookweaver’s Daughter by Malavika Kannan. This one was easy to pick hands down. I felt like this book brushed over some major events that happened. As well, there’s a major lack of world building in this novel. I think with some polishing it could have made for a good middle grade novel but was sold as a YA novel. Best Backlist: The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty. I’m normally not huge into Adult Fantasy, but I feel like the author does a good job of making the world accessible to the reader even though it’s vast with a lot of political machinations. Probably one of the best series I read start to finish this year. Worst Backlist: The Cruelty by Scott Bergstrom. I was going to put in Wink Poppy Midnight here again, but technically I gave The Cruelty the same rating and I wanted to avoid repeats. For this one, I gave a LENGTHY review about my problems with the book. I wanted to like it, but the author’s internalized ableism and misogyny really ruined the party here. Best 2021 ARC: This was a two way tie between “You Have a Match” by Emma Lord and “Shipped” by Angie Hockman. I had no idea I enjoyed these equally because they’re such different books. Both are contemporaries but “You Have A Match” is YA Contemporary about families and secrets while “Shipped” is an Adult Contemporary about a hate to love romance and work/life balance. Worst 2021 ARC: “The Castle School (for Troubled Girls)” by Alyssa B. Sheinmel. This one is more of a problem about what the publishers sold the book as. Because the book summary wasn’t correct when it came to the whole point of the book. So I went in with completely incorrect expectations. I think because of the plot twist I would have still rated it lower than the other 2021 ARCs I read, but it would have been a closer contest. Best Standalone: I Hope You’re Listening by Tom Ryan. This is a YA Mystery that came out this Fall that I really enjoyed. It’s about a girl who is present when her friend gets taken from the woods. Years later she still has trouble dealing with being the child left behind so she starts a podcast to help people solve missing persons cases. It also had a surprise cult element that I wasn’t expecting and really enjoyed. Worst Standalone: Meet Me at Fir Tree Lodge by Rachel Dove. This one is a bit blurred in my brain. I think that really speaks to how I feel about this one. It is about a girl whose life falls apart after a skiing accident and how she tries to put it back together. But it involves a romance with an Alpha Male character which everyone hates at this point. I wanted it to be sweeter and softer and more heart wrenching than it was. Best Book in a Series: All Systems Red by Martha Wells. I scoured my spreadsheets to try to find a book I hadn’t already gushed over, but there’s a reason this one is in the top of so many categories. I love Murderbot and following all of their misadventures. The Murderbot Diaries is a series about a Security Bot who has hijacked their Governor Module and just wants to watch their serials all day. But those pesky human’s they’re hired to protect keep getting themselves in trouble. Worst Book in a Series: I found the book in a series that I gave the worst rating to and I had to go over my review to try to remember what it’s even about. I read Legacy of Ash by Matthew Ward which is the first book in the Legacy Trilogy. And I still don’t remember much about it. I remember it being dense and hard to read without getting a lot out of the book in reward for my effort. It was a hard slog and clearly not great if I can’t remember what it’s about less than 9 months after I read it.

Practical tips for honing your writing
If you’re reading this, you’re already a great writer. Here are a few level-ups I’ve found over the years:
1. Poetry is a game changer. Read it even if you hate it. Read Rupi Kaur and Tumblr poetry, then keep going. Dive deeper. Read poems aloud to get a feel for rhythm and sound. When you find one you like, transcribe it by hand. I like to memorize them. There is no better way to impart lyricism and flow into your writing. (Find all the poems: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/)
2. Read QueryShark. (https://queryshark.blogspot.com/) Even if you have no intention of querying agents, Janet Reid has an incredible eye for tight, elegant writing. Her critiques of people’s queries will teach you more than anyone about how to cut words, structure sentences, and connect paragraphs. She’s also hilarious.
3. Accept your muse. Often we get caught up in what we think we should write. Either because our professors like it, or everyone here on writeblr is doing it. You will not write to your full potential if you aren’t following your passion. Write what comes easily (most of the time) and what makes you smile.
4. Write something you hate. Oh, yes. Write some royal purple prose. Write in present-tense. First person. Vampires. Whatever the hell Steinbeck is doing with the themes and the blah. Keep it short and don’t worry about it being good. You’ll gain insight into your preferred style, and you’ll be better for it. You might even find a new passion!
5. Detail neutralizes cliche. You can get around any cliche, I mean any, by adding hyper-specific details. Go extreme. Get weird. Think about it through the emotional context, or the economic context. Every single classmate in my workshop wrote their novel about a tormented musician. None of it was cliche because of the weird details we added.
6. Revise in an annoying font. Papyrus. Comic Sans. Goudy Stout. Don’t just edit like this, revise. You’ll feel the pacing and plot issues in your soul.
7. Punctuation is a tool, not a rule. Punctuation marks are not rules--they are symbols that tell a reader how to use their breath and their eye. When you draft and revise, think only of where/how you want a reader to pause. Think of grammar last.
8. Cut your editing time in half...by doing nothing. Our brains can only create so much language at a time. Every work e-mail you write or conversation you have depletes this. Let yourself rest and replenish. The time you take to regenerate good usable language is time you won’t have to spend editing tired writing.

Bucky Barnes [A to Z (fluff)]
list made by @multiplefandomsimagines
Tumblr media
[masterlist] / [request here]
A - attractive (what they find attractive)
You’re confidence. He can’t help but feel a sense of pride as he watches you take action and not let anyone get in your way, not even him. You’re not rude or arrogant of course, you just have the power to be okay with yourself so much that you don’t let anyone control you.
B - baby (do they want a family?)
Babies are a sensitive topic with Bucky. Before the war James was a player, not interested in settling down, always looking for adventure, or trouble (which ever came first). And after HYDRA it took him a long time to trust himself. Starting a family with you would be the greatest gift he could ever want but he just doesn’t feel like he deserves it just yet.
C - cuddle (how they cuddle)
Bucky Barnes is universal cuddle master. As long as it involves you wrapped up in his arms he’s all over it. First it’ll start all cute, you snuggled up to his side as he lies on his back, one arm around you shoulder, but through out the night you too will just get closer and closer. Eventually, you both wake up in a human pretzel.
D - dates (what dates with them are like)
James has tried to take you dancing but the clubs nowadays just aren’t his scene anymore which made him kinda sad but the drive-ins always cheer him up. It reminded him of being a kid again, borrowing his dad’s car to only watch 15 minutes of the movie and make out it.
E - everything (you are my...)
Rock, you are his rock. Every time he has a bad day or a mission goes wrong he goes to you. It took him a while to get close to anyone that wasn’t Steve and to have such an intimate relationship with you after everything he’s been through meant a lot. You can’t always bring him back down but you do help.
F - feelings (when they realise that they love you)
James catch really remember the one moment he figured out that he loved you. Over time he had just grow used to this certain feeling. One day he just kinda woke up and was like ‘wow, this is love, I’m in love’. He had realised just as you had walked into your shared room only wearing one of his shirts and your hair a mess. You lazily smiled at him as you flopped back into bed. He couldn’t help but wrap you up in arms.
G - gentle (are they gentle?)
Bucky is just one big cuddly bear. In the morning if you wake up before him, he’ll come up behind you and place his hands on your waist and kiss your neck whispering a sleepy ‘Good morning’. And after a long night at one of Tony’s big parties he happily helps you wash up in the shower, careful to take off all your make-up, and carry you to bed as you mumble about how hot he is.
H - hand/hold (how do they hold you? do they hold hands?)
At the start Buck hated any form of psychical affection, always worried he may accidentally hurt you. For the longest time his metal are was completely off limits, he even hated you just standing on his left side. Eventually, after many attempts, he finally gave in - of course he wasn’t that upset by it anyways. He had gotten tired of avoiding being psychical in public and finally wanted to show that you were his (respectfully, of course).
I - impression (first impression)
You had just been promoted to field agent and you couldn’t have been more happy, if only your colleagues felt the same... For your first mission you had to go undercover with with none-other than the Winter Solider. People who wanted to work with him were little to none so Fury thought it would be interesting to have both of you on the same mission, it was only recon. Many agents were not happy with this but said nothing to Fury, instead taking it out passive-aggressively on you. But you didn’t let it faze you, you knew what your job was and it wasn’t to brood over hurt feelings. He liked that. You even shook his hand when first meeting, he was cautious but still interested by you and your professionalism.
J - joker (do they pull pranks?)
Bucky isn’t a prank master but he can pull a little joke once in a while. But most of the time it’s with you, on Sam. When first introduced to the team you were confused by Sam and Bucky’s relationship, not sure if they were friends or enemies and would always try and convince Bucky not to mess with him. Eventually you saw the light and began secretly plotting with Bucky, painting Sam’s wings a bright pink, shaving his facial hair to replicate Stark’s. Tony was impressed, Sam wasn’t.
K - kisses (how do they kiss?)
His kisses are gentle but passionate. Starting of as a cheeky peck or two on the back of your neck in the morning to wake you up. Then when you finally roll over goes in, holding himself up by his metal arm and gently holding your hair with his flesh hand. You eventually need to stop him so you can get up and get dressed. And he’ll just sit there watching you, not in a creepy way, of course, but in a loving way. As you leave you’ll blow him a kiss and won’t leave until he lazily raises his hand up to mock catch it.
L - little things (what little things they love)
He loves the way you every time you come back from a mission, as you walk in the door you’ll do a little dance, strutting right up to him just to slam a folder on the kitchen island (most likely your mission report). It doesn’t matter if theres no music playing, you make up the music, as well as the dance moves.
M - memory (favourite memory together)
His favourite has to be the morning with you after your first date. It had been an amazing night so you invited him up for one more glass of wine and one thing led to another... The night had been a drunken blur so Bucky woke with a bit of a headache and you were there with an aspirin and a plate of homemade waffles with bacon on the side. He ate slowly, afraid that when he finished you would finally kick him out, but you didn’t, instead spending the rest of that day cozied up together on the coach.
N - nickel (do they spoil?)
Believe it or not being an Avenger doesn’t pay too well (because Stark is chump) but when he can he does. Most restaurants are too fancy for his liking and the people make him feel anxious so he prefers to stay home for a movie marathon then take you too all night diner. It’ll be 2 o’clock in the morning and you’ll both be eating burgers and gushing over how cool the Mad Max movies are.
O - orange (what colour reminds them of you)
Bucky has always loved blue. It reminded him of that time you too had a picnic and as you tried to feed a duckling the mother charged at you and stole all your bread. And that time you suddenly had an urge to paint so you made him drive you all the way to a 24 hour target and only every painted a blue background before giving up because the blue had started to turn a swampy green when you tried to add grass.
P - petnames (what petnames they use)
It’s stereotypical but Jame’s will only ever call you ‘Baby’ or ‘Doll’, sometime ‘Hun’ when he’s feeling extra soft. You, of course, make fun of him because of this because what kind of girlfriend would you be if you didn’t? When in front of a group of people you like to start pinching his cheeks and make baby noises, calling him ‘Huggle Bear’ and ‘Shnookims’. He instantly looses his badboy cool, turning bright red and fighting to remove you.
Q - questions (what are the questions they're always asking?)
He may look late-twenties but he actually an 80-year-old man suffering from Alzheimer’s. For a deadly assassin he is super bad at keep tabs on things. “Doll, where are my keys?” “Did you see where I left my phone?” “Shit, I can’t remember where we parked.” It’s funny until it prevents you from going home so you have to walk 15 blocks in the rain.
R - remember (their favourite memory of each other)
The first time you met Steve, Bucky’s heart skipped a beat. He had just gotten back from a mission and he found you in the Avengers Tower, laughing and chatting with his oldest friend. You walked over to him, smiling. He wrapped him arms around you as his heart started to finally stop racing. Looking up he saw Steve give him a quick nod and the thumbs up.
S - sad (how they cheer themselves/others up)
He likes to just rest his hands on your waist, after the kiss just resting his forehead against yours and swaying ever so slightly. Then he’d pull you head to rest on his chest and run his flesh hand through your hair and kiss your crown. But whenever he’s sad he just likes to stay in his room in bed so you bring him breakfast in bed and just cuddle up with him, having his rest his head on your chest.
T - talking (what they love to talk about)
He loves to think back the first time he opened up about the war. He was expecting a sad expression on your face as he detailed stories of taking down nazi bases but he was wrong. You sat there beaming, hooked onto every word. You didn’t look at him like he was a child, you look at him like he was some war hero. And to you he was. Sure, the war wasn’t glamorous but talking to you about it helped him be more comfortable with his past.
U - universe (a metaphor)
“Your body is a museum of natural disasters can you grasp how stunning that is.” - Milk and Honey, Rupi Kaur.
Buck isn’t really a poetry kinda guy but this one really did resinate with him. It’s obvious why which is kind of sad but you have to give him props for how far he’s come with accepting who he is and what he’s done.
V - very (thoughts about each other)
He can never put you in a box. You’re not the type of person that he can just label as “nice” because you’re not just “nice”. You’re a little bit of everything.
James is a rough-around-the-edges softy with a heart of gold and a metal arm. He would risk his life for anyone, doesn't matter who. You don’t just love him, you respect him as a hero and a colleague.
W - why (reasons why they love you)
Where do I begin? Maybe how gorgeous you are, how kind you are, you know how to get almost anyone out of a funk, you’re not some damsel in distress always looking for help but you know when to ask for it. Buck could list a million things but you won’t let him because although you love him dearly, you’d much rather eat than have your food go cold as he gives a big ass speech about how much he loves you. You already know he does.
X - xylophone (what's their song?)
Listen to me when I tell you Bucky loves classic rock, he’s a classic guy. But one of his favourite song is Renegade by Styx, especially because the first time he heard it was one morning when you were cleaning and blasting it throughout your apartment. You were just straight up rocking out and letting loose. And he thinks it’s kinda corny but the lyrics do somewhat relate to him.
Y - you (what you are to them)
You are his soulmate. Bucky isn’t too sure about the whole “soulmate” thing but the more time he spends with you the more he starts to believe it. This feeling he has for you isn’t just love, it’s something he can’t really put into words and he some how likes that feeling. He doesn’t want to put a label on you because he knows your more than that.
Z - zebra (what pet they want to have)
For a while Bucky wanted to adopt Rocket, but of course he was having the none of that so instead you opted for a dog. Originally you had visited the rescue centre in hopes for a puppy was Bucky was instant in love with a 5 year old Rottweiler called Muffin. He had been rescued from an underground dog fighting rink and had lost and eye as well as half an ear. Although Muffin at first did not like either of you, but after weeks of tender, love, care and lots of dog treats, he refused to leave Bucky’s side.

if you don't mind me asking, how did you get your start in poetry? i like poetry. i think i could be dece at it if i knew how to begin and to practice. but my only experience with poetry is being forced to write in different forms in high school and just ugh. i think it ruined it for me?
that’s actually very similar to my start!
I hated writing in form in school. For me, poetry is often a very emotional thing and trying to write it to the constraints of a form really killed it for me. Then I read The Princess Saves Herself In This One by Amanda Lovelace and Milk And Honey by Rupi Kaur (highly recommend both) and realised poetry can be just as beautiful with all of the form and fancy stuff stripped right back.
So I started writing kind of like that but in my own voice of course. I tend to only write when I’m feeling something I want to get out - it was a method of managing my anxiety for a long long time. I don’t think there’s any one right way to start, poetry is an incredibly personal thing and everyone is going to come at it differently. Practising is just like anything else - the more you do it the more you’ll grow.
I actually have started writing form again through my uni course and i don’t mind it any more. I still rarely choose to do it but every so often I come across something that wants to be said in that form and that can flow properly for me in that way - but school never really went into enough depth to teach you that.
I’d recommend just starting by reading a lot of poetry and playing with different styles and finding your voice. Use prompts if you need to or write about things that matter to you. Poetry is often about telling your truth, even if it’s personal and uncomfortable - remember you don’t have to share it if you don’t want to.
I had a poetry blog for a long long time on here because it felt like releasing all those pent up feelings into the world. If you scroll through lots of them are terrible but some of them are amazing and I love that - I don’t post straight on there anymore but I do still reblog all my poetry to there so it’s @writerpoetstoryteller if you want to have a look. If sharing your work or just having a space to put all of it helps you then I’d definitely recommend doing that.
Mostly I’d just recommend giving it a try and seeing what happens! Poetry is as unique as the poet so you can’t really go horribly wrong (and if you want to message me about it any time feel free to!) Best of luck nonnie xx
P.S. If you’re looking for stuff to read that’s less to do with form, here’s some more collections I’d highly recommend:
The Witch Doesn’t Burn In This One by Amanda Lovelace @amandalovelace
Dropkick Romance by Cyrus Parker
Your Soul Is A River by Nikita Gill @nikitagill
The Chaos Of Longing by Ky Robinson
salt. by Nayyirah Waheed
Afterlife by Melissa Jennings @poetpersephone
The Sun And Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur
Love, And You by Gretchen Gomez
Sunfish by Shelby Eileen
Definitely check all of them out! If you can’t afford the books, try finding the poets on Instagram as a lot of them share their work there like I do.
Was this helpful? Consider buying me a ko-fi!

Top “Ten” Books 2017
Tumblr media
So yesterday I completed my goodreads goal of reading 50 books during the year and I thought it would be a good idea for me to make a top “ten” books. Who knows? perhaps you’re thinking about picking one of these up but you are not so sure.
Oh and when I say “ten” what I mean is, some series or books by the same author will be put into the same slot… so they will clearly be more than “ten” books. You guys know I can never choose just one thing.
1. I’ll Give You The Sun - Jandy Nelson. #NoahAndJudeForever. Family is important but it’s more important that you find peace with the past.
2. The Sun Is Also A Star - Nicola Yoon. I invite you to believe there’s still good in the world, I invite you to believe in love, destiny and the universe. I am so grateful for this book, it reminded me of some parts of myself that I had lost during the past years, while also maintaining a good and critical commentary of today’s society.
3. Harry Potter - J.K.Rowling. This series proves, proves to everyone that “children books” does not mean that there is no depth or interesting political positions. J.K. Rowling, I am in awe of you! They are all exceptionally good and so entertaining (duh) but here is my current order:
Harry Potter and the Halfblood Prince: GIVE.ME.ALL.THE.DRAMA.
Harry Potter and the Deahtly Hallows: Payoffs, so. many. payoffs!
Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone: This is not a happy book, my boy Harry has been abused over and over, but his heart of gold pushes through.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: Sirius my sweet!
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: Cedric Diggory is a victim of “wrong place wrong time”.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: Sirius’s death is worse than in the movie! But also.. Luna Lovegood is the one true queen.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: THE WEASLEYS ARE EVERYTHING!
4. The Sarah J. Mass books: I loved them all and I will forever praise her writing and defend this books as more than “hot fae meets feisty heroine”.
Tower of Dawn: I was not a huge Chaol fan, but his arc overall the series is one of the most realistic out there, making him a coherent character and a very believable person. This book is basically what happens when you say “Chaol deserved better”, well let me tell you he got “better”! Making a great effort to include more representation the most natural way possible (as it should be) this book is as good, as its predecesor expanding the world and deepening the story. #NestaqMyLoves #YreneTowersIsLife.
A Court of Wings and Ruin: Feyre Darling, you are my number one girl. I loved this book and I thought it was really really good. It had it’s flaws (as do all books), and at certain points I wished for other outcomes. Nonetheless it works as an amazing bridge between old plotlines and new ones. I get the feeling that this book sets the ground for coming payoffs. Female at positions of power, NUANCED characters with bad moments as well as good ones, and a great political position (if you missed Rhy’s immigrant statement or Cassian’s rape analogy then I urge you to read it again). ACOWAR is more than people give it credit for and it’s a good political statement on many things… but it did screwed over Mor -although I feel this will payoff at the end and she will be very happy-.
Empire of Storms: I am still recovering.. (if you have nothing else to do and want to see the process of how my heart shattered then you can read my reaction thread here)
5. Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte. Here comes Jane redefining what badass means since the 19th century. This books has everything you need! I mean, it’s classic for a reason. But the language! The use of the language is so well executed that it reads like a novel that has 20 years tops. Bronte is a genius. How she managed to do that, I will never know. She had her way with words.
6. All The Light We Cannot See - Anthony Doerr. Being a book about WWII, I knew it was going to hurt, but oh what a thrilling ride this was! The structure of the narrative, the characters, the story: everything was on point!. #WorstPlotTwistOfTheYear
Tumblr media
7. Leigh Bardugo: Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom. THESE BOOKS! I URGE YOU I URGE YOU TO READ THEM! This duology brings some of the best characters literature in general – not just Y.A– has seen. I think this is a perfect example of good representation. The only thing missing was a Latino-Latina character, but I still feel this was a diverse cast and I could find myself in different traits of each character. I love this books more than words could express and I hope and wish that Leigh will continue to spend time in this world with them. I just want more of The Dregs.
8. A Darker Shade of Magic - V. E. Schwab. Now this is a world I am excited to be a part of! You know when you read a book and you feel that you’re scratching just the surface, the tip of the iceberg? well this was that book for me. As its own I’m sure this novel stands on it’s own and you could read it and leave it at that, but I you just know there is more and more. This is the perfect example of a literary synecdoche, in which a part represents to the whole, but it still a part. Meaning that it can be on it’s own or it can be a part of the bigger narrative. I am eagerly waiting for the second installment to arrive (to my house).
9. Dear Ijeawele, or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions- BY MY LOVE Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. “Your feminist premise should be: I matter. I matter equally. Not “if only.” Not “as long as.” I matter equally. Full stop.”. If you have trouble understanding feminism please read this, along with her “we should all be feminist TED talk”. If you like to know more about this ideology and how it applies to society nowadays then read it. Chimamanda is one of the greatest voices to explain what it is all about and how we can contribute towards an egalitarian society, Besides is like 100 pages long… so there’s no excuse.
10. Strange The Dreamer - Laini Taylor. Basically it’s Atlantis more developed. I loved Lazlo and I loved Sarai. This is a story unlike any other, in which words come to live and you feel the characters within you.
Honorary mentions:
11. Rupi Kaur: Milk and Honey and The Sun and Her Flowers. She articulated my thoughts and gave them life. More than considering it poetry, although some of her texts are beautiful poems, I think of them more of aphorisms or thoughts. It helps when you can see your pain voiced by other, it helps you realize things and then it helps you move forward.
12. Atonement - Ian McEwan. GOD BRIONY! I loved this book and I owe it a lot since my dissertation worked because of it. McEwan is great when exploring characters and in going against the common idea that children are nothing if not innocent. Every action has it’s consequence and we should always keep this in mind. #RobbieDeservedBetter #CeciliaTallisQueenOfMyHeart.

What is E-RUPI?
Tumblr media
How does it help? What are its uses? How does it work?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched an electronic voucher based digital payment system “e-RUPI” on Monday (02 August 2021). The platform has been developed by the National Payments Corporation of India in collaboration with other government departments.
 Is it digital currency?
No. However, it is a first step by the Government towards the introduction of a new digital currency for India. The government is already working on developing a central bank digital currency and the launch of e-RUPI could potentially highlight the gaps in digital payments infrastructure that will be necessary for the success of the future digital currency or e-currency.
Is it a digital payment platform ?
No. The same is not a digital payment platform like google pay and PayTM.
So, what is it actually?
E-RUPI is a cashless and contactless digital payment solution. Through E-Rupi Indian government has tried to bring an electronic e-voucher system in India. It will act as a prepaid e-voucher which you can pay without any hassle. You don’t need a credit card, debit card, or any other service to pay.
It is, in essence, like a prepaid voucher except that the voucher is entirely digital and the payments will be authorised by institutions like the government or banks.
For instance, suppose you get an e-RUPI voucher for a getting a COVID vaccination. The said voucher can only be redeemed to obtain the said vaccine.
India faces a massive problem with respect to distribution of subsidies to real beneficiaries. For instance, there are middlemen in the existing system claiming benefits ineligible to them.
The Prime Minister said that the e -RUPI voucher is going to play a huge role in making DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) more effective in digital transactions in the country and will give a new dimension to digital governance. This will help everyone in targeted, transparent and leakage-free delivery.
It can also be used for delivering services under schemes meant for providing drugs and nutritional support under Mother and Child welfare schemes, TB eradication programs, drugs and diagnostics under schemes like Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, fertilizer subsidies, etc.
For example, in India the only way that a parent (in a remote village) who is struggling to finance their child’s education is to send them to a government school (which would be underfunded, have no proper infrastructure and suffer from issues such as teacher absenteeism, irresponsible administrators). However, under the new e-RUPI Model, the Government would provide a voucher to the parent for the child’s education which could be redeemed at a school of their choice. Therefore, the school would need to collect these vouchers from the students and redeem them in order to see any money in their accounts. This way government funds will go to institutions that perform and the ones that don’t, will suffer the consequences.
e-RUPI is a cashless and contactless instrument for digital payments. It acts as an e-voucher based on a QR code or SMS string, which is delivered to the mobile phones of the beneficiaries.”
Meaning, the government could technically send an SMS to an Aadhar linked number and transfer the subsidy this way. All you have to do then is redeem this e-voucher and use it to fund the child’s education.
This way the system ensures leak-proof delivery of government's welfare services to the intended beneficiaries. Further, e-RUPI will connect the sponsors of the services with the beneficiaries and service providers in a digital manner without any physical interface.
The PMO also added that even the private sector can “leverage these digital vouchers as part of their employee welfare and corporate social responsibility programmes". NHA opined that the advantage of using e-RUPI is that voucher redemption can be tracked by the issuer.
The system has been built by NPCI on its UPI platform, and has on boarded banks that will be the issuing entities. Any corporate or government agency will have to approach the partner banks, which are both private and public-sector lenders, with the details of specific persons and the purpose for which payments have to be made. The beneficiaries will be identified using their mobile number and a voucher allocated by a bank to the service provider in the name of a given person would only be delivered to that person.
This way the Government through e- RUPI is able create a person-specific and purpose-specific payments system.
