The King and Queen will visit Australia and Samoa
Their Majesties The King and Queen will undertake an Autumn Tour from Friday 18th – Saturday 26th October 2024. This will include a Royal Visit to Australia, State Visit to The Independent State of Samoa and attendance at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024.
The King’s visit to Australia will be His Majesty’s first to a Realm as Monarch, whilst the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa is the first The King will attend as Head of the Commonwealth. In both countries, Their Majesties’ engagements will focus on themes designed to celebrate the best of Australia and Samoa, as well as reflecting aspects of The King and Queen’s work.
Australia
In Australia, His Majesty, as Head of State, accompanied by Her Majesty The Queen, will visit Parliament House, in Canberra, where Their Majesties will be welcomed by the Prime Minister, Mr Anthony Albanese. His Majesty will address a reception attended by political and community leaders, and prominent Australians who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in a variety of fields, including health, arts, culture and sports. Their Majesties will pay their respects to the Fallen, laying a wreath at the Australian War Memorial and visiting the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander memorial, ‘For Our Country’. The King and Queen will conduct a Fleet Review of the Royal Australian Navy, in Sydney Harbour.
On the theme of sustainability, The King will visit CSIRO, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, meeting firefighters and learning more about the centre’s work to combat the bush fires which devastate millions of hectares of Australian land each year. Their Majesties will tour the National Botanic Gardens, home to the largest living collection of Australian native plants in the world, where they will learn about Indigenous plant use. They will also hear from staff and volunteers about how climate change is affecting biodiversity.
The King, who has this year been receiving treatment for cancer, will meet Professor Georgina Long and Professor Richard Scolyer, both Australians of the Year, and will hear about the work they do to help those affected by melanoma, one of Australia’s most common cancers.
Meanwhile, Her Majesty’s programme will also reflect the themes of her wider work, including her passion for encouraging reading and literacy and her desire to raise awareness of domestic and family violence. At a library in Sydney, Her Majesty will meet children participating in a Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition workshop. In Canberra, The Queen will join a discussion on domestic and family violence, with some of those whose lives been affected by it, and experts who work in the field. Her Majesty will also meet representatives of GIVIT, a charity which matches donors with those in need, of which she is Patron.
Their Majesties will attend a community BBQ in Western Sydney, sampling a range of produce from across New South Wales, experiencing the cultural diversity of Australian communities and meeting local residents. The King will also meet Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives and groups to learn about their work in supporting local community and strengthening culture.
Samoa
Their Majesties’ State Visit to Samoa will celebrate the warm bilateral relationship between the two countries, which has been further strengthened by Samoa’s hosting of CHOGM 2024. The King and Queen will receive a formal welcome to the country, in the form of an ‘Ava Fa’atupu ceremony, before meeting Samoans at an engagement to highlight aspects of Samoan traditions and culture. His Majesty will also spend time with young people and community and faith leaders.
The King’s programme will, in addition, reflect the theme of sustainability and biodiversity, in support of one of the key themes of CHOGM – ‘A Resilient Environment’, and the meeting’s focus on oceans. His Majesty will visit both a mangrove forest and a National Park, witnessing the work which is carried out by local communities to restore and protect both these vital ecosystems. He will also plant a tree in Samoa’s Botanical Garden, marking the opening of a new area within the site, which will be called ‘The King’s Garden’.  Meanwhile Her Majesty’s engagements will again focus on the wider themes of her work. The Queen will visit an aoga faifeau (traditional Samoan Pastor’s School) to see first-hand how pupils are taught to read and write. Her Majesty will also visit the Samoa Victim Support Group, an organisation which assists survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse, where she will learn more about the services the group provides to those in crisis.
CHOGM 2024
The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa will bring together delegations from 56 countries across Africa, the Caribbean and Americas, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific. The overall theme of this year’s meeting is: ‘One Resilient Common Future: Transforming Our Common Wealth’.
In His Majesty’s first Commonwealth Day message as Sovereign, in March 2023, The King said of the Commonwealth: ‘Its near-boundless potential as a force for good in the world demands our highest ambition; its sheer scale challenges us to unite and be bold.’ CHOGM 2024 will see some of that ambition and unity on display with an emphasis on resilience across 4 key areas – resilient societies and peoples, resilient democratic institutions, a resilient environment and resilient economies.
As Head of the Commonwealth, The King, accompanied by The Queen, will attend the CHOGM Opening Ceremony and will host a Dinner for Commonwealth Heads of Government. The King will also host a Reception for New Heads of Government and will attend the CHOGM Business Forum to hear about progress on sustainable urbanisation and investment in solutions to tackle climate change.
Gender Equality and Women’s empowerment is one of CHOGM’s key themes, and Her Majesty will attend a side event to the Women’s Forum on the subject of ‘Advocating for Women and Girls in the Commonwealth’, with a focus on eliminating violence against women and improving health.

Just over a third got it, that's not too bad.
Anyway here's some fun Australia Lore for those overseas,
when Australia federated, parliament was first held in Melbourne, and was for years after although a lot of the early key political movements happened in the state of NSW, such as Henry Parks' speech in Tenterfeild, and the federal convention which started in Sydney in 1891.
(Side fun fact, the Australian federation era is usually considered to be from about that to around the start of WW1)
Sydney and Melbourne were (and still are) Australia's biggest cities, and the most influential. They were both contenders, rivals even to become the capital.
A compromise was found, and a new city, Canberra (meaning meeting place in an Aboriginal dialect) roughly half way between the two. A new territory, the Australian Capital Territory was created so it wouldn't count as part of NSW.
Canberra was a planned city from the start, and an example of the garden city movement (also called city beautiful) featuring geometric patterns, large parks and a lake, and imposing visual axis looking towards key buildings and parts of the landscape.
Walter Burly Griffin (an American landscape architect) and his wife Marion (architect) were the winners of the design competition, and set out this design. Sadly, as isn't unheard of, the what was built is dotted with compromises. For example, parliamentary triangle which was supposed to be all museums and cultural facilities also ended up housing a lot of offices.
But the bones of the design remain. There's some cool places there, like Questacon the science museum, the Australian war memorial, Telstra tower, the courts, parliament, and lots of nice parks. Recently, they've finally added light rail, which was an idea in the orgional plan which never happen.
Also, my cousin lives there, and my grandma's family used to live in the part that was flooded to form the central lake, Lake Burly Griffin.
ok I’m trying to see something here

The Allure of Modern House Design in Canberra: Blending Innovation with Nature
Canberra, Australia's capital city, is renowned for its unique blend of urban sophistication and natural beauty. As the city continues to grow and evolve, so too does its architectural landscape. Modern house design in Canberra is characterized by its innovative use of space, materials, and technology, creating homes that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional and sustainable. In this article, we explore the key elements that define modern house design in Canberra and how these homes are setting new standards in architecture and living.
Embracing Minimalism
One of the hallmarks of modern house design is minimalism. This design philosophy focuses on simplicity and functionality, often characterized by clean lines, open spaces, and a lack of unnecessary ornamentation. In Canberra, this approach is evident in the many homes that feature uncluttered interiors and exteriors, allowing for a sense of calm and order. Large windows and glass walls are common, bringing in natural light and creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Sustainable Living
Sustainability is a key consideration in modern house design, and Canberra is no exception. Many architects and builders in the city prioritize the use of eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient technologies. This includes the integration of solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems, and high-performance insulation. Homes are designed to be energy-efficient, reducing their carbon footprint and providing long-term cost savings for homeowners. The use of sustainable materials such as recycled timber, low-VOC paints, and sustainable concrete further underscores the commitment to environmentally conscious living.
Integration with Nature
Canberra's unique setting, with its abundance of green spaces and proximity to nature reserves, greatly influences modern house design. Architects often seek to harmonize their designs with the natural surroundings, creating homes that are both visually stunning and respectful of the environment. This can be seen in the use of natural materials like stone and wood, as well as the incorporation of landscaped gardens, green roofs, and outdoor living areas. The goal is to create a sense of harmony between the built environment and the natural world.
Smart Home Technology
The integration of smart home technology is another defining feature of modern house design in Canberra. Homeowners can now control lighting, heating, security, and entertainment systems with the touch of a button or through voice commands. These advanced systems not only enhance convenience but also improve energy efficiency and security. Features such as automated blinds, smart thermostats, and integrated security systems are becoming standard in new builds, reflecting the growing demand for homes that are both intelligent and intuitive.
Personalized Spaces
Modern house design places a strong emphasis on creating personalized living spaces that cater to the specific needs and preferences of the occupants. In Canberra, this often means flexible floor plans that can be easily adapted as lifestyles change. Multi-functional rooms, home offices, and bespoke storage solutions are common features, allowing residents to make the most of their living space. This focus on customization ensures that each home is unique, reflecting the individuality of its owners.

Ideal city
At its core, an Ideal city focuses on providing for its people. It should have robust, well-run public transportation utilizing multiple systems such as buses, street cars, light rail, etc. Just as importantly it should provide safe and inclusive infrastructure for all types of personal transit such as sidewalks, bike lanes, and an appropriate amount of car infrastructure. Additionally, as pointed out in the garden city model, a city should provide ample leisure opportunities such as public parks, theaters, commercial districts, and so on.
One thing that is notable about our ideal city is the amount of green space that is available. This allows for multiple different parks to be formed, trees for picnics on warm summer days, and many other outdoor activities. Children interacting with nature and each other is a great way for them to develop many different skills that are used in adult life. This green space will allow for families to spread out and use their spare time to play with their children and other family members within the greenery.
It’s important that our ideal city is a safe environment for the people living within it. For example, providing a lot of street signs for people who are driving and walking around in the city makes a big difference. Another thing that is important to take into consideration when talking about the safety of cities is the air pollution and environment that people are living in. Within our city, there are lots of sidewalks and areas for people to consider biking or walking to places. This is great for preventing air pollution within our city making it environmentally more safe than a lot of other cities around the world.
Tumblr media
https://www.itlawyer.com.au/technology-it-lawyer-canberra
A well-designed city not only allows for its residents to easily traverse without the use of a personal automobile, but rather actively incentivises such behavior. Crafting an urban environment that allows for life divorced from the personal automobile takes many forms and stretches beyond simple bike lanes or thinner, pedestrian friendly streets, though those are useful. Mixed use zoning, speed limits, and ample public transportation all play important roles in cultivating an urban environment friendly to pedestrians. Building highways apart from the urban core of a city prevents the far too common practice of carving up urban centers via highway interchanges, and ensures that a city is designed for those living there, not for those commuting from elsewhere. Rail lines connecting the city to surrounding metropolises allows for long-distance travel directly from the urban core and supports life free from cars. Fewer vehicles taking up valuable space in densely populated cities ensures more space for housing and less for parking lots. Fostering a walkable urban environment promotes more active living and leads to better health outcomes for its citizens, also reducing pedestrian deaths from vehicle collisions in the process. The urban fabric of a city is vital to the quality of life for those that reside within its limits.
While no city currently exists as the “ideal city,” we have identified Canberra, Australia as a city that exemplifies a lot of the factors above that create a perfect city.
Canberra was a planned city, modeled after Howard’s Garden City, and this is shown by the large circular patterns seen in the city. Naturally with the idea of the garden city, Canberra boasts plentiful amounts of greenspace, with the entire river shore being public park land. Canberra is also one of the safest cities in the world in regards to crime rates. Canberra features an extensive network of pedestrian and cycling paths as an ideal city should feature. However no city is perfect, and due to the focus on green spaces, Canberra has a lack of densely urbanized areas, heavily reducing the city’s walkability. This is where we can look to European cities like Vienna, that have a dense urban core that puts focus on pedestrians and cyclists over vehicles.

Maximising Space Innovative Design Ideas For Small Homes
Are you tired of feeling cramped in your small home? Do you dream of a more spacious and functional living environment? Well, fret not! In this blog post, we'll explore some innovative design ideas that will help you maximise the space in your small home.
Whether you're a homeowner looking to renovate or a House Builders Canberra creating compact yet comfortable spaces, these ideas will inspire you to make the most of every square inch.
Smart Storage Solutions
When it comes to small homes, storage can be a real challenge. But with professional House Builders Canberra, you can turn even the tiniest nooks and crannies into valuable storage space. Consider installing built-in shelves along the walls or under the staircase.
Opt for furniture pieces that double as storage, such as ottomans with hidden compartments or beds with drawer’s underneath. Utilise vertical space by adding hanging shelves or hooks for your belongings.
By incorporating these smart storage solutions, you can keep your home organised and clutter-free.
Multipurpose Furniture
In a small home, every piece of furniture should serve a purpose. That's where multipurpose furniture comes in handy. Invest in a sofa that can be transformed into a bed for overnight guests or a coffee table with built-in storage compartments.
Tumblr media
Folding tables and chairs are also great space-saving options, as they can be easily tucked away when not in use. With the right furniture choices, you can maximise functionality without sacrificing style.
Open Floor Plans
Creating an open floor plan is a fantastic way to make a small home feel more spacious. By removing unnecessary walls and barriers, you can combine multiple rooms into a single, multipurpose space. This not only enhances the flow of natural light but also allows for more flexible furniture arrangements. Open floor plans are particularly popular among Home Builders Canberra as they create an illusion of space and provide endless possibilities for customisation.
Light and Colour
The strategic use of light and colour can greatly impact the perceived size of a small home. Opt for light, neutral colours on the walls and floors to create an airy and open atmosphere. Avoid heavy draperies and instead choose sheer curtains or blinds that allow natural light to filter through. Mirrors are another powerful tool to visually expand the space.
Place them opposite windows to reflect light and give the illusion of a larger room. By harnessing the power of light and colour, you can transform your small home into a bright and inviting sanctuary.
Outdoor Living Spaces
Don't forget about the potential of your outdoor area! Whether you have a tiny balcony or a small backyard, maximising outdoor living spaces can greatly increase the usable area of your home.
Consider installing a vertical garden or hanging planters to add greenery without taking up valuable floor space. Create a cosy seating area with foldable furniture or even a hammock. By extending your living space outdoors, you'll have a refreshing retreat that complements your small home.
Conclusion
Living in a small home doesn't mean sacrificing comfort and style. With the right design ideas and a bit of creativity, you can maximise the space and create a home that is both functional and inviting. From smart storage solutions to open floor plans, these innovative ideas will help you make the most of your small home.
So, whether you're a homeowner looking to renovate or a House Builders Canberra in search of inspiration, embrace these ideas and transform your small space into a haven of efficiency and beauty.

The 9 Iconic and Impressive Fences Of Australia
Australia is a country known for its stunning landscapes, rich history, and diverse wildlife. However, it is also home to some of the most famous and formidable fences in the world. These automatic gates Canberra not only serve practical purposes but also represent the country's rich heritage and natural beauty.
The following list delves into the iconic and impressive fences that showcase Australia's unique character.
The Dingo Fence
Spanning an incredible 5,614 kilometres, the Dingo Fence, also known as the Dog Fence, is the longest in the world. Initially constructed in the 1880s to keep dingoes away from fertile land in southeastern Australia, it now helps protect livestock from wild dogs and dingoes. The fence stretches from the eastern coastline of Queensland to the cliffs of the Nullarbor Plain in South Australia.
The Rabbit-Proof Fence
The Rabbit-Proof Fence, also known as the State Barrier Fence, was built between 1901 and 1907 to protect Western Australia's agricultural lands from the destructive spread of rabbits. At its peak, the fence extended 3,256 kilometres, making it the longest unbroken fence at the time. Today, the fence still stands as a testament to Australia's efforts in preserving its agriculture and natural resources.
The Emu Fence
Located in the southeastern part of South Australia, the Emu Fence was built in the early 20th century to prevent emus from entering farmlands and damaging crops. With a length of 224 kilometres, the fence is not as long as the Dingo or Rabbit-Proof Fences but remains significant for its purpose of preserving Australia's agricultural industry.
The Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch
The Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch is not just a fence but also a symbol of Australian perseverance and dedication. The arch, located at the eastern end of the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, was built as a tribute to the servicemen who built the road in the 1920s and 1930s. The gang plays Animal Crossing: NH
I haven’t played since Christmas because my joycons had ~ issues ~ but now I’ll be able to return to it pretty soon so here ya go ^^ (also took a while to make this as I dont know the English names of the villagers so I had to look it up lol)
________________________________________
Leonardo
Calls his island: Oshika
Organized
He makes a Japanese themed village and puts trees around all of the paths
There are flowers everywhere and he has a garden where he breeds every type of flowers because he wants all the colors
Only has cherry trees and bamboos
Never time travels (he thinks it’s cheating)
He doesn’t really cares about his character’s clothes because he pull all of his focus into his island, but still buys all the kimonos and other eastern dresses and robes
Waterfalls everywhere
He also puts lanterns everywhere (especially the small ones, he thinks they’re cute)
He loves the Japanese themed items and his island reflects this
His house has a really simple decoration, it’s more minimalist than the rest of his island
His favorite villagers are Bea and Kabuki
He will get rid of a villager if he doesn’t like their house tho
On his island he has: Bea, Chester, Chow, Croque, Drago, Genji, Kabuki, Margie, Pekoe, Snake (all choosent because he likes their house style and it goes well with his theme, except Bea, he just loves her)
Donatello
Calls his island: Cretaceous
A collector
He mostly tries to get every fruit, bugs, fish, art pieces, DIY recipes, etc
Doesn’t really like breeding flowers but still wants them all, so he visits Leo’s island and steal his hard work (only one of each tho)
Time travels a lot because he doesn’t have the patience to wait months to get his bugs and fish
Goes insane whenever he completes a new fossil and tries to keep one set off every fossil for himself
He decorates his island with his favorites and tries to do a Jurassic Park theme
He hides them in forests, or he puts them in front of waterfalls and puts light spots under them to make them more menacing
There are almost no paths and they’re just dirt, trees everywhere and a few lanterns here and there
Also he puts the fake statues he got from Redd next to the shops to give an ~*°ambiance°*~
Has a library sort of space next to his museum
His character has a few outfits: Black Ninja outfit, Pirate captain outfit, hawaian shirt and floral shorts for when he visits someone’s island
His favorite outfit is: tortoise specs, avocado Explorer’s outfit, brown Traveler’s backpack
His favorite villagers are Mitzi and Lucky
On his island he has: Agnes, Avery, Beau, Lucky, Mitzi, Ozzie, Sparrow, Stella, Tad, Wolfgang (he loves ‘natural’ villagers, his two favorite being the exceptions)
Raphael
Calls his island: New York
He’s terrible at naming and couldn’t care less about it
He make a very urban island
Surprisingly organized, with residential area, shopping area, etc
He has a few trees and flowers, but mostly puts them near the villagers houses and does little gardens for them
He also makes a park with trees and flowers, a few benches etc
He can't catch bugs and keeps getting stinged by wasps lmao
Relies either on Donnie or on Nookazon to get the stuff he wants
His island anthem is bonkers
Doesn't really follow a specific theme other than it reminds him of a city
Barely upgrade his house (he can't decorate it so why loosing all his bells?)
Also doesn't really have an outfit other than he always has sunglasses on
His favorite villagers are Apollo and Cherry
On his island he has: Apollo, Boomer, Cherry, Cousteau, Eugene, Gladys, Hopper, Naomi, Raymond, Winnie,
Michelangelo
Calls his island: Lollipop
His island is super colorful
It’s an organized mess
The paths are clear and you can find them easily, but the decorations are all over the place
He loves making furniture of every color
Gifts his villager flower crowns so they’d hang them on their doors
Also gets his flowers from Leo
Likes candy / mermaid furniture
Has a Rickroll hidden somewhere and he changes it’s place every two weeks so his brothers get a surprise from time to time
His house has a different theme per room
So again, a mess, but each room is carefully thought through
Makes a lot of his own patterns, both for the paths but for his clothes too
Also customize his island anthem (it's either a really cool tune he made or a meme)
He likes the most colorful villagers
His favorite villagers are Filibert and Merengue
On his island he has: Bob, Caroline, Cookie, Drift, Filibert, Merengue, Loly, Tia, Renée, Wendy
April
She calls her island: Northampton
Really organized too
There's a Café, a big veggie garden with a farm, the campsite has a bonfire and all
She likes putting stairs everywhere so there are a lot of cliffs
Also has a residential area, but she puts the shops right next to the Residence Service Building and makes a huge plaza with a fountain and all
She has 4 loose snapping turtles on her island that she loves and cherishes
There are different kind of gardens all over her island
Theres also a picnic area
Decorates her pier and makes it a fish market
Also the rocky side is Pirate themed
There are mushrooms everywhere in her forests, and her flowers are mostly white, red, pink, black and purple
Her favorite villagers are Cranston and Frobert
On her island she has: Cranston, Etoile, Frobert, Goldie, Hopkins, Lopez, Portia, Prince, Rex, Willow,
Casey
He calls his island: Paradise
There's more water than land with all the waterfalls and rivers he puts everywhere
He turns it into a beach / summer heaven
Bridges everwhere
It's very light and colorful, and what he doesn't organize he makes it up in decorations and banners
Asked Mikey to make him some custom designs
He made a little restaurant by the sea and a dock area
Palm trees everywhere
Like he has other trees for the Miles Nook quests but that's it
Also likes to gift his villagers beach clothes so they would wear it and keep the theme going
Has a lot of aquariums in his house as well as a few mermaid furniture
His favorite villagers are Audie and Whitney
On his island he has: Audie, Bud, Canberra, Chai, Diana, Flora, Melba, Piper, Reneigh, Whitney

Modern House Design in Canberra: Embracing Contemporary Elegance
Canberra, Australia’s vibrant capital, is known for its unique blend of natural beauty and urban sophistication. As the city continues to evolve, so does its architectural landscape, with modern house designs gaining significant popularity. These contemporary homes are not just structures; they are a testament to innovation, functionality, and aesthetics. Here’s a look into the elements that define modern house design in Canberra and how they harmonize with the city’s distinctive character.
Embracing Minimalism and Functionality
Modern house designs in Canberra are characterized by a minimalist approach that emphasizes simplicity and functionality. This design philosophy focuses on clean lines, open spaces, and a lack of ornamental excess. The idea is to create a serene and uncluttered environment where every element serves a purpose. This aligns perfectly with Canberra’s ethos of thoughtful urban planning and efficient use of space.
One of the key features of modern Canberra homes is their open-plan layouts. By removing unnecessary walls and barriers, these designs foster a sense of spaciousness and fluidity. This open layout is not just about aesthetics; it enhances natural light flow and improves ventilation, making homes more energy-efficient. Large windows and sliding glass doors are common, allowing residents to enjoy the city’s scenic views and connect with the surrounding nature.
Integration with Nature
Canberra’s natural beauty, from its rolling hills to its lush parks, heavily influences modern house designs. Architects often incorporate elements that blend indoor and outdoor living. This might include expansive decks, rooftop gardens, or courtyards that seamlessly integrate with the interior spaces. The use of natural materials such as timber, stone, and concrete not only adds warmth but also ensures that the homes harmonize with the environment.
Landscaping plays a crucial role in modern Canberra homes. Gardens are meticulously designed to complement the architectural style, often featuring native plants that are both aesthetically pleasing and sustainable. Water features and green walls are also popular, contributing to a sense of tranquility and enhancing the overall ambiance.
Innovative and Sustainable Features
Sustainability is at the forefront of modern house design in Canberra. Energy-efficient technologies are integrated into new homes to reduce environmental impact and lower utility costs. Solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems, and high-performance insulation are commonly included. Smart home technologies also play a significant role, allowing homeowners to control lighting, heating, and security systems remotely, further enhancing convenience and efficiency.
Innovative design elements are a hallmark of modern architecture. Canberra’s new homes often feature cutting-edge technologies such as home automation systems, energy-efficient heating and cooling solutions, and smart appliances. These advancements not only make everyday living more convenient but also contribute to a more sustainable future.
Cultural and Contextual Sensitivity
Modern house designs in Canberra are also sensitive to the cultural and historical context of the city. Architects pay homage to Canberra’s heritage by incorporating design elements that reflect its history and character. This might involve using materials or architectural styles that echo Canberra’s past while adapting them to contemporary needs. The result is a blend of old and new that creates a sense of continuity and respect for the city’s legacy.
