Tiny in the snow part 5!!!!!
So this has no foreseeable end. It was supposed to be two or three parts at the most but now it's just turning into a series so
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5
As the human watched the tiny creature slumbering in their hand, their heart filled with an overwhelming sadness. The little one was just so small, and seeing them curl up tight, clutching a torn piece of paper had hurt more than they had thought possible. And oh when they had cried-
“Charlie! You big fucking nerd, open the door”, If the shouting hadn't startled them enough, then the pounding at the front door definitely spurred them into action. They had almost reached the door when they remembered their little guest and the bundle of clothes on the couch.
Fuck. The little one was not going to forgive them for this.
“Give me a minute!”, Carefully they slipped the tiny thing into their hoodie’s pocket while rushing back to the couch, unceremoniously shoving the makeshift nest under the coffee table and hiding any and all traces of the little guest before hurrying back to the door.
“Thank god. I thought I was going to freeze before you let me in”, Stepping through the threshold between the biting cold and warmth was the one person they really didn't want to see, nor have in their home right now. Deric. But they couldn't really think about their asshole of a cousin when their hidden passenger was wiggling around in an attempt at getting comfortable.
“Dude, you alright?”, Oh shoot. How long had they been standing there for, praying their cousin wouldn't notice their wiggling jumper? They quickly stuffed a hand into the pocket, cupping their sleeping guest as they closed the door.
“Yeah. Just been a bit distracted with work, ya know?”, Oh please don't have noticed the tiny hum of content from their pocket. “What do you need?”
Deric, for all his oddly preportioned face could do, actually looked surprised, though it was a face that you could only glean the meaning of if you had been around him for a truly ridiculous amount of time, mainly because he always pulled this sour little face that made him look like someone had pinched his face in and then made him eat three lemons. “It's movie night, remember? Or did you forget?”
“No”, Yes they fucking did! “Look, I hate to do this, but can we reschedule? I have some things to sort out for a job, and you know how these things are?”, God they hoped he didn't but at the same time, Deric had to leave now because the little one was stirring again and grabbing out at their hand and the jumper.
“What, you planing another Bank heist? How many times have I helped sort out the errors in your plans? God Charlie, just let me see the-”
“Deric. I need you to get out. Now”. The little one gasped, and Charlie could feel them scrambling around to get out of their hand, unfortunately, that left them few options, and they ended up half hanging out of their pocket before they could grab them.
And then their worst nightmare had come to fruition.
“Well now, what do we have here”, Deric made a grab for their guest, the poor dear too frightened to tear their wide eyes away, “Come now dear, I won't hurt you”
The tiny thing screamed when Deric made a swipe at their arm, but charlie was faster, grabbing their cousins wrist in a vice-grip. “Don't touch them”, the words spat like poison as they glared down at him, eyes burning and grip tightening. The very thought of their cousin getting his hands on the little sylph was enough to make them sick, but the idea of them pinned to one of his display boards like a butterfly was far too much to handle. “Now get out of my house”
Deric nodded, ripping his arm free as he staggered towards the door, and it wasn't until his car had started and the engine had faded into the snow did they stagger back to the couch, the little one safely tucked in their pocket as they fell back against the pillows.
“I'm so sorry little one”, Oh, the very thought of the tiny creature staring up at them with those frightened eyes was too much. “He won't ever come near you again”, Gods, the picture of their terrified eyes brimming with tears had branded itself to their eyelids. The little thing had looked so scared, horrified even at just the sight of Deric. Hell, they hadn't even looked at them with that much fear.
And then the tiny creature was moving, crawling out of their pocket and atop their chest before they could process the sight. And there they were, this tiny little thing, so perfect and full of life, staring with eyes brimming with starlight and wonder up at them, defiant against their trembles. All to ask a question that was so quiet that Charlie was almost afraid to breathe. “Who was he?”. Their voice was hoarse and croaky, worn from constant crying and lack of water, and Charlie briefly worried about the thimble full of water and how it had surely spilled. But that could be dealt with later, for now, their little guest was looking up at them, still waiting on an answer, and oh they were so light, their presence would hardly be noticeable unless one was looking at them. “He’s my Cousin. But I won't let him, nor anyone else hurt you. You have my word”
“I think...He killed my parents”
