I've said before that Emilia Jones says really insightful things about Orla in interviews, like it's clear she really gets her and thought about this silly little kids movie character she's playing, and I've just found one of my favourite examples.
She gets the tell me about your character question and she starts off with the official description of Orla as a fiesty teenage Celtic girl and then is like yeah and also she's really lonely!
"she doesn't have any friends her age in her tribe" 10/10, accurate analysis, she does not.
If there were two people involved in that movie who knew what they were doing with Orla, it's Jessica Swale and Emilia Jones.

I really like the songs you picked, very fitting!!
I might’ve come up with a fix for you not being able to listen to the songs. Do you have Spotify Premium? If you do, there’s a pretty easy way to add files from your device to your playlists and I’ve already got all the songs from the movie saved as MP3s, so I could send them to you if you want and then you’d be able to listen to them without having to watch the movie.
There’s a lot of songs I associate with these characters just because there’s a couple of lyrics that are so them. Specifically Mitski’s Francis Forever is one of these, I don’t care if it’s about a breakup “I don’t need the world to see that I’ve been the best I can be, but I don’t think I could stand to be where you don’t see me” makes it their song and their song alone in my head.
Oh hi!!? It’s always a bit of a surprise to get any likes on my Horrible Histories movie posts, I sorta send them into the void for self satisfaction😆, but it was even more surprising when your username popped up! I hope you’re feeling better. For the playlist ask game, obviously I’m asking if you’ve got any songs for Atti and Orla.
Hi friend!! What a pleasant surprise! 🥰 I got such a good laugh out of your Horrible Histories movie post, and it made my whole day so thank you so much for that! 😊 It really is a small fandom world, isn't it? Thank you so much for the well wishes and for the ask! 🥰 I have to admit that I am positively giddy to have an excuse to think about Horrible Histories: The Movie! 😁
To tell you the truth, I actually have a whole playlist of songs for Atti and Orla [I call it "Of Love and Sundials" because I amuse myself 😅]. Of course, they have a lot of wonderful canonical songs already (including a (sort of?) love song. That second verse and also the Latin translation makes me think it's a love song, but I suppose it's up to interpretation). Anyway... unfortunately those songs are not available to listen to in my country or to purchase internationally (believe me I've looked into it) which has been such a frustration when the songs get stuck in my head. (True pain is running around humming "something something sharing" for two weeks at time with no respite 😂). My sister and I actually once physically typed out all the lyrics to one of the songs by pausing the actual movie over and over with subtitles, and I also translated part of Atti's part of "Orla Alone" into the original Latin when I super bored once (my teachers would be so thrilled to know how I was utilizing my many years of "serious" Latin knowledge 😂). But mostly, I just made a playlist of non-Horrible Histories songs (and I got really, really attached to song "Lost in The Woods" from Frozen 2) as a way to fill the void. Here are a few of my favorites:
This Land Is Mine by Dido (YouTube Link)
Home by Heron Valley (YouTube Link)
Don't Mention The War by The Divine Comedy (YouTube Link)
Vagabond by WILD (YouTube Link)
We Go Well Together by Goldheart (YouTube Link)
Soldier, Poet, King by The Oh Hellos (YouTube Link)
Skyway Avenue -- We The Kings (YouTube Link) [A/N and brief warnings: this song mentions falling to one's death and (vaguely?/possibly?) suicide (though I don't think it needs to be taken that way. I've always taken it in a more metaphorical sense), but the line "I would die for you on Skyway Avenue" is too fitting for this ship to leave this song off of the list (and the song isn't really that dark)]
Bonus Fun, Silly and Cheeky Songs:
What A Man Gotta Do -- Jonas Brothers (YouTube Link) [A/N: Spoiler Alert: The answer is apparently just stop to tie your sandals, so it's not that hard...]
Lost in the Woods -- Jonathan Groff (From Frozen 2) (YouTube Link) [A/N: I got really attached to this song sort of in lieu of "Orla Alone" since it's a similar sentiment/vibe (in my head anyway. This song is also a bop in its own right!). Also, Atti does tend to get lost in the woods in a literal and metaphorical sense so I think it kind of works 😅]
I've included links to both Spotify and YouTube (I tried to pick the most official links I could find), and I'm crossing my fingers that you won't run into any international streaming problems similar to the ones I've been having with the movie's songs. When I get to feeling better, perhaps I'll try to make a proper post with actual discussion about these songs, but it'll just have to be the songs and links for now I'm afraid. I hope you'll still like them though! Thanks again for the ask! It was lots of fun! 🥰
Thank you for playing my Mini-Playlist Ask Game! 😊

The Ninth Day of Britannicus
Today I'm doing the Horrible Histories books. Britannicus has to be in the Rotten Romans movie but I haven't watched the movie or found any picture of him online, so I don't know for sure.
Ah, Horrible Histories. I think I read every single book back in sixth grade. I also think I watched every single episode of the show at least twice. Even though Horrible Histories isn't the best when it comes to historical accuracy (fact check fact check before you believe anything you hear!), it still holds a special place in my heart.
@athelstan-anglecyning, who sent me this, said:
What do you think of horrible histories britannicus?? he looks 40. and kind of dead
I do agree that he looks 40. It's giving...
And he certainly looks kind of dead. Perhaps it is because he is dead. We will never know...
I honestly don't have much to say about this one. I love the artstyle. It's a very nice cartoony style that's always had a spot in my heart. The art itself is also kind of cute and derpy (do people use that word anymore?)
He does look quite old. He was definitely drawn with the artist assuming he was an adult.
I don't hate this one, but it certainly isn't one of my favourites.
I think what @just-late-roman-republic-things said about drawings is true. There's so little information that if I try hard enough to fill in the blanks with good information, I actually really quite like how he looks. He is starting to feel like Brit.
Uh oh. Now I really like how he looks and I think he looks like Brit. I literally unintentionally sabotaged today's post. I have made myself so biased towards this drawing that I am unable to continue. Note to self: don't do that.
But don't worry, when I go and rank them, I'm sure it would've worn off. And if it didn't, I could always just flip the canvas.
#huh if i managed to make myself go from disliking a drawing to liking a drawing#maybe i could manage to do that with my own art?#if im always proud of my work id always want to draw#dang i should try this#i honestly just realised how strong the mind is when it comes to drawings#the person who draws something is always going to be the person who hates it the most#and#it turns out you can train yourself into liking a drawing#there has to be a way to abuse this#ancient rome#roman history#history#britannicus#the 13 days of britannicus#ancient history#art#horrible histories#horrible histories books#rotten romans#drawings#tw child death

Lights, Camera, Action! Stunning Locations in the UK to Shoot Your Next Masterpiece
Looking to shoot a cool reel for your Instagram, a music video or even a film? The United Kingdom boasts a wealth of captivating landscapes and architecturally rich settings, making it a filmmaker's paradise. Whether you're crafting a heart-wrenching indie flick, a pulse-pounding music video, or a social media reel, the UK offers a diverse backdrop to bring your creative vision to life. For the history buff with a camera, Scotland's dramatic castles like Eilean Donan or Dunvegan provide a touch of medieval charm. Imagine epic battle scenes or brooding monologues set against the backdrop of these ancient fortresses, their windswept ramparts whispering tales of the past. London, a bustling metropolis, offers a different kind of grandeur. Iconic landmarks like Tower Bridge or Buckingham Palace can add a touch of quintessential British flair to your production. Explore the cobbled streets of Notting Hill for a quirky, bohemian vibe, or capture the fast-paced energy of Piccadilly Circus for a truly urban feel. The rolling hills and picturesque villages of the Cotswolds are perfect for a story that oozes quintessential English charm. Think thatched-roof cottages adorned with vibrant flowers, charming country pubs, and babbling brooks – a scene straight out of a Jane Austen novel. For a taste of the otherworldly, head north to the Scottish Highlands. The dramatic landscapes, with their rugged mountains, vast lochs (lakes), and sweeping valleys, are guaranteed to leave a lasting impression. Imagine a lone figure silhouetted against a fiery sunset over the Isle of Skye, or capture the mystical allure of the standing stones at Callanish. Wales, with its dramatic coastlines and moody mountains, offers a wild, untamed beauty. The dramatic cliffs of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park or the fairytale-like beauty of Snowdonia National Park are perfect backdrops for stories that evoke a sense of adventure and mystery. But the UK's beauty isn't limited to wide-open spaces. Abandoned industrial sites offer a unique, post-apocalyptic aesthetic. Picture a gritty music video set against the backdrop of a derelict steelworks, or a dystopian film shot in a forgotten warehouse.Don't forget the power of the unexpected. Keep your eyes peeled for hidden alleyways, quirky cafes, or colorful street art – sometimes the most captivating locations are the ones you stumble upon unexpectedly. So, grab your camera, unleash your creativity, and get ready to explore the UK's cinematic treasures. With its diverse landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture, the UK is a filmmaker's playground waiting to be discovered. There are many films shot in the UK on the places we mentioned, and are a lot to explore! Aww, thank you so much! I really love your ideas about these characters so much.
Orla’s mum is something I think about a lot when it comes to this movie. There's something so bold about a film that takes the dead mother route and barely acknowledges it. Absolutely, it would be so difficult for Orla knowing that her kids won't get to know their grandmother, especially considering how close she is to her own gran. She has to go through so many massive milestones in her life without her mum there, and becoming a mum herself is such a huge thing. Getting married too, I think. I think she’d even be upset about the fact that she’ll never get to know what her always anti-Roman mum would’ve thought about Atti. For the record, her mum would’ve loved Atti, he may be a Roman but he’s a Roman who has saved Orla, Arghus and Brenda’s lives and for that he’d instantly become one of her favourite people. It’s good that Orla’s got Atti though, there’s quite a few things that I imagine Orla would struggle to talk about that she is able to open up to Atti about.
For sure there are elements of the Roman naming system that Orla would think are ridiculous. Daughters being given the feminine form of their father’s name, even if they’ve got an older sister who is already called that, would be especially stupid to her. I do agree that when it comes to naming their kids, they end up doing the Roman thing of naming their kids after family members but with Orla’s family (and following the rules a lot less closely) instead of Atti’s. In my first go at writing this reply, talking about complicated Roman names set me off on a rant about how Atti's name doesn't fit into Roman naming conventions but I've cut that out for everyone's benefit.
Atti would definitely struggle with the British weather. It snowed where I live (right in the middle of the country) last week and it made me think of how unfazed Orla would be by snow at this time of year, while Atti would just be all what do you mean it’s snowing, IT’S MARCH!!!!. Plus, Roman villas really aren’t designed to deal with British weather - I’m sure Orla points this out during the building process (people can say what they want about roundhouses but those things were built with British weather in mind) of Atti’s house and Atti is just like no it’s got heated floors, it's fine. Then, Orla is a little smug when they get hit with a really terrible winter that year and she’s proved right in her nice, warm roundhouse but she’s more busy being worried about Atti freezing to death with his useless heated floors (not that she’d admit that, I’m sure she comes up with excuses to give Atti expensive furs and stuff, oh, my dad’s worried, you know what he’s like…). The idea of them cuddling up “for warmth” is so incredibly sweet!
Hii😊 Can I request 💙 and 🤍 for Atti x Orla, please?
Hi friend! Thanks for the ask! I'm always happy to come up with headcanons for this underrated masterpiece and such a great ship! I hope you'll like these! 🥰
Questions from this "Bye Bye Writer's Block" Ask Game
Atti x Orla Headcanons
💙-- Hurt/Comfort
Though welcoming their first child is a happy, joyful time for the young married couple Atti and Orla, there is a twinge of bittersweetness for Orla because her mother isn't there to share this important moment with her, especially when she realises that she has very few memories of her mother and her children will have none of their grandmother. It's a very difficult thing for Orla to talk about, but Atti knows that it is weighing heavily on his wife and tries to be as supportive as he can and encourages her that he is always there to listen if she wants to talk about it. Eventually, she opens up to him about her grief and her worries that their children might grow up not knowing about their grandmother, and Atti promises that they'll always keep Orla's mother's memory alive and tries to come up with several, practical ways they can remember her as a family. Also, coming from Ancient Roman society in which pretty much everyone is named after someone else (A/N: in a super complicated system that I can't imagine Orla would be up for fully implementing when it comes to naming their children, but I digress...), Atti comes up with the idea of naming their eldest daughter after Orla's mother in her honor. This suggestion really means a lot to Orla and really means a lot to Arghus and Brenda as well. 💕
🤍-- Fluff
Coming from a hot and humid Mediterranean climate, Atti spends a lot of time freezing cold in his new home, and Orla often teases him for bundling up when she considers it actually warm or temperate outside. After they marry, they playfully "argue" over lighting fires in the hearths/fireplaces of their house (in a sort of ancient world equivalent of arguing over the thermostat) and eventually the children get involved (with the kids that take after Atti being more easily chilly and the kids that take after Orla often complaining about being far too hot when they have a fire running in the middle of May). While Orla does tease Atti a bit for being so cold all the time, it's mostly just in good fun, and she has been known to often concede and curl up next to him by the fire "for warmth." In truth a lot of these playful arguments they have about the weather and temperature may or may not happen mostly because they both truly treasure the time they get to spend curled up together by the fire cuddling and reading to each other or talking about their day, plans, or ideas. When the kids come along, they often curl up with their parents as well. (A/N: except Lorcan & Rian, the chaos twins. They're often too hot in the house and say warriors don't need cuddles anyway--but, of course, they'll always get them when they can no longer hide the fact that warriors or no, they're not too old to want hugs from Mum and Dad).
#temperature really is a cross-millennia issue me and my dad want it as warm as possible and my brother and mum hate having the heating on#horrible histories the movie#horrible histories rotten romans#orla my beloved#atti my beloved#reblog
