when The Apothecary Diaries anime comes out everyone better clap and cheer for my beloved weird girl as she uncovers all the courtesan drama (read: murder attempts) at the palace. sheâs soooooo neurodivergent-coded (her hyperfixation is poisons and medicinal plants/animal organs, sheâs highly analytical about social dynamics to survive but has poor social awareness) and soooo catgirl (in a stray street cat way)!!!! She has a family of sex workers who she loves and who taught her the life lessons + skills she needs combined with the medical knowledge and unconditional love from her father. When she finds out she has personal ties to politicians nothing changes because she doesnât care. She is even aroace.
Like idk maybe give it a watch maybe youâll find something you like.

The TFP "Airachnid" Problem
Like I said, I'm gonna make essays and discussions regarding women in transformers <3. The first person is tfp Airachnid.
TFP Airachhid is honestly, the litmus test for how I feel that Transformers fans can handle âmeanâ evil, women. Because the hate train that she received and the hate she still receives is massive, and it rounding up to âshe killed cliffjumperâ or âsheâs mean to arcee and starscreamâ âshe killed breakdownâ just shows that this fandom wouldnât really be ready for a female villain that was worse than her, or that just did not give a fuck.
And honestly, that is soo unforutante because we see male characters, like Starscream and even like Megatron, who are basically like Airachnid, if not worse, getting love and support for their actions.
Sheâs not supposed to be niceâŠshe is a villain a straight up, in your face, villain and that is interesting. Yes, other Airachnids/Black Arachnias get love, but a lot of them are morally grey or complex.
A lot of them either turn good or ambiguous in the end, or aren't who we think they are, giving them a very empathetic past to almost excuse their actions.
Yet, when we have villainous, no morals Airachnid, which I find made her character far more intriguing, it seems that people just hated her, and would hate her for the things they loved with the male villains. She was the perfect mixture of Starscream and Knockout, with Megatronâs brutality, and she was justâŠhated for it.
And it made me realize that in terms of female villains, we havenât ever had one like her. One that says âfuck youâ to morality and shit, because I just do not think the fandom could handle her. And Iâm talking about in the TV Shows.
There are female villains in the live action, but that is another topic for another time.
Lastly, to me as a Black Woman, I cannot help but feel a lot of hatred toward Airachnid is people not checking their own racism and antiblackness. I think itâs easy for people to, not even realize it, but hold black women to higher moral standards than others. The point is that, Airachnid is voiced by a Black Woman and fandoms tend to be very critical toward Black women whether they be live action, voicing characters, etc. black women are either too much, or not enough.
Funnily enough, we are seeing this with ROTB with tons of people who arenât black women, bashing the representation of Black women in ROTB and saying they arenât doing enough or theyâre pointless.
And this brings me back to Airachnid and how fandoms tend to, unknowingly be very heavy and critical toward black characters, but especially, Black women characters as well who are mean, or who do not fit to their standards. That is just my perspective from a black woman.
Iâm not going to sit here and say that everyone who dislikes Airachnid is racist, but I will say separately that I think a lot of reasons for disliking Airachid are rooted in misogyny.
There has been no good reason for disliking Airachnid that I havenât seen laced in some form of misogyny, because every reason she is hated, you can trace back to a male villain doing the same thing, if not worse.
Given fandomâs negative reaction toward Airachid, I wonder if weâll actually ever see such a cold, heartless female villain like we did her. I think that only thing that makes things âacceptableâ is if a female villain has complexity, or has depth or will eventually be a âgoodâ guy again, or at most, morally ambiguous. That is what makes a female villain acceptable and frankly, thatâs not fair but unfortunately I just feelâŠthatâs how it is.
Another thing I noticed, which I will make in another essay, is how TFP tends to shame any form of âfeminityâ especially in its women but also, in queer outwardly femme charaters, like Starscream.
The âtom boyâ or âone of the boysâ perosna is something that we tend to see with Arcee and Miko. And forms of femininity such as motherhood, or being outwardly femme like Airachnid or Starscream are seen as âbadâ by the narrative.
What I mean by this is that, June is shamed for being motherly toward Jack, by Arcee and by Miko and it is something that she is made to feel bad for, for wanting to care for Jack. Arcee and Miko are portrayed as I said, as being âone of the boysâ Arcee herself made a negative comment toward the idea of being PINKâŠwhich is ridiclous.
Airachnid and Starscream are both heavily femme and queer coded, but they are shamed by the narrative and the fandom. Starscream is brutalized on the daily, and Airachnid, who is outwardly femme tends to be seen as irredeemable by the fandom and also inexplcitly evil by the narrative.
TFPâs issue with femininity  is something is something I certainly want to talk about later on, but given this essay is just about Airachnid, I will stop here.
The last thing I'm also going to say is that I don't think that the writers knew, or understand how to write a female villain for a notoriously misogynstic fanbase. There are reasons why the other female characters are 'acceptable' and it's because they are for the most part, written in a way that is okay for a male audience. That doesn't mean they don't face their fair share of misogyny...they do. Especially Miko.
But an outwardly evil femme fatale who doesn't give a fuck about it...the fandom is just not ready for such a character. And while I don't think the writers needed to pacify her, i do 100% believe that when operating in a misogynstic fandom, you should learn how to write a female character in a way that will not get her dragged the way Airachnid has been dragged.
If you enjoyed my essay, please share and consider following?

4. On your fandom.Â
Which one lmao....um, well X-Men? Cool, a lot of the fandom to some degree is drawn cuz they can relate be they part of some type of minority group. Donât see too many assholes, I think most of the jerks that were on here fell off during nippocalypse. There is a divide with the comic elitists vs xmcu and itâs dumb. I used to be an xmcu blog cuz I WANTED to read the comics but I was a broke ass college student who had literally no access to that, but Iâd seen Wolverine and the X-Men, plus the movies that were out at the time. If Iâd let those asses run me off, well, wouldnât have continued to build my comic book collection (Iâd already read Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, Iâm talking specifically X-Men comics).
Arrowverse? I donât follow many of the blogs, I have a select few I follow. My fandom experience is pretty much my friends with fairly similar views so I canât speak on the fandom outside of the fact thereâs a loooot of veiled hating on women of color under the guise of griping with the crappy writing. I try to avoid it. I donât hold with Iris and Cecile hate, theyâre good characters subjected to the writing of white men, what do you want.
Star Wars? NOPE. Hell naw. No thank you. Bye. I have no interest. I make it very clear this is a âthe prequels are the shit, TCW is a fucking joke and trashes the characters, not!Star Wars mouse sequels are non-existent, the og EU is not legends itâs the only recognized canonâ blog, and Iâm this unapologetically. I have extremely strong opinions, Iâve literally been in the fandom since I was 6, Iâve spent hours reading EU content, visual dictionaries and encyclopedias, concept art of the movies books, comics, novelizations, etc. If youâre a stan of the other...stuff, Iâll probably say shit that will offend you and itâs probably for the best you donât follow me cuz Iâm not censoring these opinions, ever, at all. And for the love of all things holy, if you want to call R*ylo okay, or Anidala toxic, we meeting up behind Dennyâs, yo.
Supernatural? Kinda sorta, considering I donât link Nil and Farrar to any of the show canon besides using some of the monster lore. Like we donât do the appropriation of native spirituality on this blog, so thereâs no use of W*nd*g* cuz youâre not supposed to write or say that, like no. I have major problems with the show, thatâs a mile and a half long, past season 5 it went downhill, they really should have left Swan Song as the finale. The queer baiting and bury the gays, the trash trash trash finale, the way any poc and female characters are handled, thereâs so much oof. I stay away from it. Honestly kind of nice to see the SPN crowd was mostly quiet, it was RAMPANT when I first got on here, and there was a looot of drama. The way the extreme crowd of the fandom conducts themselves with the actors and stuff tells you a lot. Another nope. I prefer to stick to fandomless urban fantasy.
5. On exclusivity.Â
If thatâs someoneâs jam, thatâs cool. Doesnât bother me. At one point I was exclusive to a few versions of characters. Not anymore, but I can understand how sometimes someone just clicks for you to the extent it rubs you wrong seeing a different version. It doesnât stop me from writing with other people so I literally give no fucks and donât see why anyone else should either.
20. On 'popular' blogs.Â
Hereâs where I piss a lot of people off, and I donât really fucking care, as having at one point been an even more actively sought out blog back when the MCU was taking off in 2012-2014 and having tons of asks and thread requests, I can more than speak on what itâs like being a popular blog.Technically still am, you donât have to take my word for it, just look in my thread tracker, and thatâs not even all the threads cuz some are in drafts cuz theyâre starters and I canât add yet.
Thereâs nothing wrong with people enjoying your writing and following you. Awesome, good for you. It often proves to be a lot for people and I donât like when I see people biting off more than they can chew but still pushing for more followers and asks and threads. Frankly, itâs really, really rude. I get wanting to make people happy, or wanting to try new threads and stuff, but you should also be reasonable with how much you can manage. If I see someone complaining about having too many drafts and asks and then not being able to write because of the pressure, but then daily pushing their promo or their wire or memes...and nothings coming of it...and theyâre admitting they canât get their muse to reply...then STOP. âYou donât owe anyone anythingâ means you donât owe anyone respect and obligations that arenât due.
When you decide to join a collaborative writing hobby, youâre still committing to your partners to write to some degree. Now if that means youâre going to be slow, and super minimal with which followers you actually interact with THAT IS FINE...as long as you have that communicated and make it very clear to the people who follow you theyâre probably just following to be lurkers. But I canât get with constantly pulling for interaction then within the same day the whole inbox is being dumped, drafts are being dumped, the same three people are the only ones ever getting a reply for the past three months, etc.
Thereâs been times Iâve said I canât plot right now, thereâs been weeks I bump all the memes in my queue further down so that they donât post so I can catch up. Iâm so secure with partners I donât follow back unless I get my rules code sent in (newsflash: 9/10 I never see it). I never post a promo. I really donât need to, if I see someone I really want to interact with on my dash, Iâll follow first, but I canât in good conscious promote myself when Iâm at a decent spot keeping up with a LOT. Sometimes Iâm really glad Iâm a multi with OCS and mostly female muses, it helps avoid ever reaching the point where Iâm just getting too many followers to keep up with, but giving yourself a cut-off isnât a bad thing people. Trying to do too much is.
There, I have successfully pissed off a ton of people, but Iâm not taking it back. Thereâs way too much immaturity on this matter on here, and itâs really a litmus test of the people who HAVE been in group hobbies that are interdependent of cooperation of all members offline, and those who havenât. âItâs my hobbyâ isnât this get of of jail free card you get to wave everywhere when you want to ignore people. You canât pull that in most hobbies that involve more than one person, whatever it may be, if itâs a DND group, rec sports, chess, whatever. This is my hobby too. I just probably take hobbies and commitment to other people to a more...respectful level. If I have real life, or physical issues, of course that takes priority, but hereâs a little secret...we ALL, like 99% of the community, have some degree of mental health, nuerodivergence, jobs, home life, chronic physical issues. I want you to single me out the mun that doesnât have any of that impacting their writing capabilities to some degree. Please, find them for me. You having those things doesnât make you special and if you canât communicate that itâs too much, you need the âflood of followsâ from your promo circulating but canât ever write...Iâm just sighing over here.
If any of these opinions rub you wrong, I donât mind you just unfollowing, thatâs fine. No one is forcing you to remain. I strongly believe the people that donât want to remotely take it seriously, and the people that do take it more seriously, should just keep to themselves, that way no one is getting offended by the other for how they choose to enjoy their hobby. You should enjoy it, goddamnit!!! But NOT at the expense of stringing other people along. Communication is kind of essential here, as much as people want to go âIâm too shy, BLOCKâ, but yâall I have ADHD, RSD, social anxiety (I used to live in an anxiety attack it was so bad), and I still do my best to communicate with people even on uncomfortable topics. If I can manage, so can you. And if you CANâT be mature...and communicate...then mayhaps stick to fanfic until you learn how.
