If you can stop by NYC and the Upper East Side by December 6th, take a peek inside the magnificent Academy Mansion. The palatial residence was built in 1912 for William Ziegler, using some of his inheritance from the Royal Baking Power Company. Later the mansion passed into to the Woolworth’s, and then housed the New York Academy of Sciences.

The Academy Mansion was built on the site of three townhouses, and the extra width provides for huge rooms and more outdoor light. The current owner generously provided the mansion for the Holiday House Design Show.

This is the largest NYC decorator show house in New York City I’ve toured. Some of the rooms are massive, the size of an entire townhouse floor, with stylish period details for opulent living but don’t miss the charming little nook-sized rooms. Leading interior designers created inspiring, magical rooms with an array of eclectic styles and furnishings. Here’s a small selection of my photos from some of the rooms.

Unique holiday gifts are for sale in the butler’s pantry. The $40 admission fee supports The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
