It looks at the process a designer goes through in finding their ‘voice’. We asked fifty graphic designers to give us the low-down about their student days and their professional lives. A piece of their college work is shown alongside an example of current work. Each designer also offers a key piece of advice and a warning. Topics addressed include how ideas are researched and developed; design and other cultural influences, then and now; positive and negative aspects of working as a designer; motivations for becoming a designer; and whether it's really possible to teach design.

Lying Tongue (Dishonored Ficlet #2)

Overseer Martin lies; embraces the Lying Tongue for it has always been his companion.

He lies to Admiral Havelock. Tells him how much he likes his old war stories, how much he admires a man capable of self-sacrifice and courage on behalf of his country. Tells him that he couldn't care less about the red mantle of the High Overseer's office; when there is nothing else on his mind. 

He lies to Corvo Attano, mute and faceless even without the mask. Says he'd be happy to share a drink or two at night. Says that relief washed over him when he saw him approach at Holger Square; when it was terror with dead eyes and gloved fingers that stared back at him and mocked his shackles.

He lies to Lord Pendleton. Promises that there is no judgment to profess against marriage with a bottle. Promises that should the need arise, he will always be here to lend him an ear and a friendly shoulder. Promises that there is no selfish thoughts behind his offers; when he thinks of nothing but the moment he can sink his teeth into the other's lip and taste the alcoholic blood on his tongue.

He lies always, even if the need for a shred of truth stains his throat with a burning pain.

He lies because this is who he is.

Am I going to make them go through the Seven Strictures just for the fun of it? I might. But don't take my word for it. Remember the Lying Tongue.

🐋—Does your OC have any relationships with canon characters?

I also headcanon Martin to be a heretic hunter, so Emerson definitely knows him and has worked with him. Martin works mostly in the Estate District, trusted with investigating heresy among the elite and all the subtlety and political manoeuvring that comes with it, whereas Emerson hunts among the poorer civilians.

I think Martin would be a bit of a marmite character in the sense that people either love him or hate him, and Emerson absolutely falls into the category of hating him. He thinks he's a slimy and overly ambitious bastard, that he'd step on anyone to get ahead.

⚓️—Has your OC ever visited the other isles? If so which ones? Did they enjoy it?

The first time he left Gristol was at the end of the TTRPG campaign, where the group had foiled the Big Bad's plans and killed him. The campaign was set during the rat plague so it was a good opportunity for them all the escape Dunwall and start again elsewhere.

I have a lot of branching AUs from RPing as Emerson on what happens next, but the canon version has him starting a new life in Karnaca with his lover Calla. He loves Karnaca a lot, I think he'd see it very similar to Dunwall in many ways. He loves the culture, the food, the people, and he really dives in to learn Serkonan and make the best of his new life there.

🚬—Does your OC have any dirty habits or addictions? Any vices?

He's an Overseer, so of course he does hahah.

He spends a lot of time away from Holger Square, usually renting rooms in taverns, to fully immerse himself in his hunt. Surrounded by temptation, he's developed a few bad habits.

Gambling is a big one. Emerson loves to play Nancy and poker, he finds these games to be a great way to hone his skills in detecting people's tells, and to master his own tactics.

Spending so much time in pubs, he does drink a lot. Not that he's a drunk, he doesn't enjoy the loss of control that comes with being inebriated, but he does drink more than is healthy.

So I got tagged by both @sacrecoeur-art and @wanderingaldecaldo now I gotta post some WIPs! I have 4 for y'all today. They're all short and from different fandoms. We've got Dishonored, Cyberpunk, and Dragon Age. And finally, there's some very unfinished f/f erotica that I need the motivation to finish. So heads up this will be a little NSFW. And these are all largely unedited so there will be grammar and spelling mistakes.

Okay first we got a Cyberpunk 2077 SilverV post-game piece I started the first time I finished the game back in 2021

            Johnny didn’t know where he would end up, he just knew he needed to get out of Night City. It stood like a monument to all of his mistakes and successes, both of which he wanted to forget. It was time to move on. Time to find out who he was now besides just having a different face. Reev had given him a second chance; he wasn’t going to waste that.             His bus dropped Johnny off in Nevada, just outside of the still-bustling-after-50-years Las Vegas; it didn’t surprise him, considering how capitalism was alive and well in Night City. Good for Johnny, he could use a drink. Or a few. “Not a great new start,” He thought, sitting in a shitty bar at 3pm. Were those his thoughts? They had to be, because the only thing left of Reev was his face, right? He hoped that maybe some amount of Reev still rattling around inside his brain, like the metal inside of a spray paint can. Johnny pulled his hair out from its up-do and fluffed it out, letting out a heavy sigh. He wanted it to be V, truthfully. Someone else’s turn to be the guardian angel, so to speak. “You give yourself too much credit.”

Next is Dishonored! This was inspired by the fact that I got the bad ending of the game, so I wanted to write about Corvo dealing with all the killing he's doing.

            Corvo silently pushed the door open as Jasper, another Overseer, was taunting Teague Martin, who was in the stocks dead center of Holger Square. Jasper didn’t stand a chance as Corvo snuck up behind him and choked him out, letting the man tumble onto the ground unconscious. Part of his mission was to rescue the Teague, who was of use to the Loyalists, so Corvo pulled the switch and released him. He vaguely listened as Martin thanked him and said he would see him later, but Corvo was hardly listening, he was planning his next move.  The rain poured down Corvo’s back as Overseer Martin escaped to freedom behind him. As he scanned the area for where he would go next -I should be able to jump up there-, he saw a wanted poster with his face on it; The face that was now hidden from the people of Dunwall for his own safety and to put fear in anyone that caught a glimpse of his mask. But it wasn’t his own face that he was troubled by. It was the face of Jessamine. Corvo could hardly move from the spot as his clothes grew heavy with rain from the growing storm, sidelined by the memory of the woman he loved. The Heart beat softly in the safe spot Corvo kept it. He didn’t really know what to make of it.             It hurt Corvo’s soul that he would have to see Jessamine killed in front of him, powerless to stop it from happening, but now he was framed for it. Every time he thought about it, it angered him. Corvo cared and believed in Jessamine, he never dreamed of hurting her. He didn’t realize how hard his own heart was beating at that moment.             Silently, Corvo pulled the wanted poster off the wall and blinked away to finish his mission, to make Campbell pay for the things he had done to the lives of himself, Jessamine, and Emily. And to all the people of Dunwall he was misleading.

So my girlfirend and I ship Marian Hawke and the Lavellen inquisitor from Dragon Age. Here's a little of those two meeting.

            I knew I was screwed the moment I met her. It wasn’t long after I had broken it off with Isabella, mutually, of course; She wanted to roam the seas, and I still had important things to do. That didn’t mean I was any less lonely. Varric introduced the two of us. I already knew she was the “Inquisitor” or the “Harold of Andraste” or the dozen other nicknames different factions gave her. She introduced herself as Sena Lavellan, none of those other names. She was so much shorter than me and faintly green. Sena smelled like paper, rain, and sweet grass. When we were apart, I always remembered that smell.             After all the business about the Grey Warden I knew, I got to talk to Sena a little while we walked out to the grounds of Skyhold.             “Looks like you’ve got your work cut out for you, rebuilding this place,” I said, trying to make conversation.             Sena let out a soft sigh as she floated to the bottom of the stairs, “I do. But I’m going to make it work.”             My heart skipped a beat, but I carried on. I thought Sena was beautiful the moment I saw her. Then again, I have that thought about most women. A beautiful woman could convince me to do just about anything. “You’re determined, I like that. Do you mind showing me around?”             Sena nodded and explained that she was on her way go drinking with the Chargers, “Would you like to come? I can show you around after that.”             “What better way to get to know people than drinking, right?”

And the final piece is a bit of erotica I was writing for submission. I never got a chance to finish it but I like it anyway and maybe I'll finish it off.
