3 in custody for burglaries, two chases and other crime news

Three men have been arrested in connection with multiple break-ins earlier this month at a property in the 4400 Block of East Blanchard. Ian Sinnett, Seth Dewey and Adam Hanley were read charges Thursday of residential and non-residential burglary and theft involving the entry of a home and shop building January 6th, and theft for taking of a chain saw, post hole digger and portable heater. The latter charge for Sinnett will be a felony due to multiple prior theft convictions. Sinnett was also read charges involving a January 8th break-in at the same shop building and theft of six crankshafts he tried to sell to a salvage yard. Dewey was also read meth possession and DUI charges from an incident last summer. All three men will return to court for waiver-status hearings February 22nd.... Hanley and Sinnett are being held on 18 thousand dollar bonds while Dewey’s bond is set at 24 thousand 500 dollars.

Also in court Thursday was a man accused of possessing a stolen pickup and trespassing and tearing up land along West 108th last August. Bryant Boele is charged with possession of stolen property, criminal trespass and misdeanor criminal damage to property... Boele, who told Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen he is awaiting transport to the Department of Corrections, will be back in court in this case February 22nd.

A Colorado man is in custody after leading police on a high speed chase that began after an alleged gas skip in Newton and ended after he crashed his vehicle on I-135 south of Moundridge. The Kansas Highway Patrol said Gary Beall of Sterling, Colorado reached speeds of over 100 miles an hour during the chase that ended after he hit a minivan driven by James Baker of Hillsboro that had pulled over to yield for police... The Lexus Beall was driving then went into a ditch and it a fence before coming to rest. Beall was captured after a brief foot chase. He and Baker were taken to Newton medical Center for evaluation. During the foot chase, a Hesston police vehicle was destroyed after grass beneath it caught fire, setting the vehicle ablaze.

Capital murder suspects Jereme Nelson and Myrta Rangel are back in Kansas... with assistance from the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s office Nelson and Rangel arrived at the Harvey County Detention Center early last evening from San Diego, where they have been held since being turned over to US Marshals following their arrest earlier this month in Mexico in connection with the October 30th slayings Travis Street, Angela Graevs and Richard Prouty at a home Street and Graevs shared on Spring Lake Road near Dutch Avenue southwest of Moundridge.

A Hoisington man was arrested early Thursday morning after leading officers on a chase in rural Reno County. A sheriff’s deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle whose registered owner, who was not the driver, had a suspended license. The driver of the truck, Richard Newkirk, then led officers on a chase that went west on 4th from near Clark Road to Sterling Road then south, ending near Jordan Springs and Longview Road where deputies removed Newkirk from the vehicle. Newkirk, who also had outstanding warrants from Reno, Barton and Ellis Counties, had his bond for felony flee and elude set at 1500 dollars... he’ll be back in court February 2nd.
