Gnome Druid

Alrighty, with yesterday’s post of the Halfling Barbarian we have gone through each of the Pathfinder Core races! With a few more posts, we’ll also have gone through each of the core classes. However, I will be sticking to my plan of not repeating a race or class from one post to another. But you’re not here for my scheduling, you’re here for NPCs!

Now, we’re going to be switching things up with class first. Druids are divine magic spellcasters, like clerics, but they are connected directly to nature in a way that even clerics of nature deities might not be. They can move through the wilderness and interact with animals more capably than others, and their magic allows for greater control of the elements and aspects of the wilds. Druids must be one of the neutral alignments, which poses a number of interesting perspectives. Unlike a barbarian who must be chaotic, or a monk who must be lawful, druids seem to be avatars of balance between one of the axes or both of them. Lawful neutral druids could believe in the idea of “nature, red in tooth and claw,” but with survival of the fittest as an actual philosophy. Chaotic neutral druids could deny the concept of a single form and spend as much time shapeshifted as possible to experience all kinds of ways to live. Neutral good seem like the gardeners and those who keep nature from being destroyed so all may enjoy it. In contrast, neutral evil druids hate civilization and want to tear down every last wall. Now, what about today’s race?

I explained previously how gnomes are connected to the Fey and nature, so it should come as no surprise that some gnomes prefer the wilderness to civilization. Also, nature can offer gnomes those enriching experiences that gnomes need to ward of the Bleaching. Breathtaking natural vistas, for one: waterfalls, mountains, volcanoes, all sorts of places. And as druids level up (in-universe terms: advance in power, deepen their connection, discover new mysteries, etc), they gain the “wild shape” ability which allows them to turn into animals. There’s another source of experiences! Seriously, how amazing might it be to dive through the air as a hawk or swim through a coral reef as a fish? Plus, their “Gnome Magic” trait allows them to use speak with animals at least once per day, which is nice utility for a budding druid.

Elaxi Sandi

The courts of the fey do not claim gnomes, but some seem to still have a connection to the seasons. This is especially true of gnomes who follow the path of the wild priests. Elaxi believes her ancestors belonged to Winter, given her icy-blue skin and love of the cold. The first time she travelled inland and saw the great mountains, she was in awe. She heard the spirits of the peaks and valleys, dusted with snow even in the middle of summer, and knew it’s where she had to be. Now, she runs through the forests and snow with Taara, a beautiful white tiger, at her side.

Kanoa Reef-friend

The islands of the Haule Hoku archipelago are known for the vast coral reefs that dot the sea around them. Many of the pearls which wind up in the jewelry of the mainland come from these reefs, as do pieces of coral and unique spiraling shells. Also, due to some islands having little in the way of farmland, fishing is often the main source of food. But more than one reef has been ruined by greed, and Kanoa didn’t want that to happen again. He now travels among the islands, making sure people only take what they need and that they respect that which gives them life. The beauty of the reefs restore his spirit whenever he swims through them.

Rhun Radan

The city of Daingneach is the biggest in a hundred leagues, but it is not the best place to live. Everywhere feels cramped, the buildings for most people are poorly built and catch fire regularly, and their poor sewer system means disease is common. The dwarf-dominated merchants’ council don’t care as long as the profits keep coming, but some have had enough. Rhun has lived in the sewers for a good portion of his life, but the past few years have kept him in better shape than others. One day, he found a connection to a natural cave system with clean water and beautiful crystal formations. Unfortunately, while he became dedicated to keeping this sanctum of nature safe one of his friends gave the location to the council in exchange for coin. Now, Rhun plots to destroy the city and wipe it away in revenge for the haven they defiled.

This bird is named Kadelli. I can’t tell much about her story without getting into spoiler territory 😅, but she is a very just confused bird getting used to the “modern” world of 2002. She really is just your old grandparent with serve dementia and the personification of this cat.

Spookle Fluffington is Hoku’s older adopted brother. He’ll be a reactivity major character in the story acting as the babysitter for Hoku and her friends. Despite his small size, he is actually quite strong (mainly because he grew up with dragons). Shoot me any questions if you have any!

To start the “Hoku’s Chaotic Summer” comic, I shall make ✨character introduction pages ✨. So I present to you, Hoku, the protagonist of this comic. If you want to ask anything about her or to her, go ahead, just please keep it PG.

And this dude is named Wilbur Bunsen, the next door neighbor and best friend of Hoku. He’s a burnt yellow Flemish Giant Rabbit. He’s a bit shy, and a oddball, but he’ll be by his friends’ side no matter what. And yes I was inspired by the pancake bunny meme.
