The Japanese Olympic team: Mai Murakami, Hitomi Hatakeda, Yuna Hiraiwa and Aiko Sugihara!

Murakami, Hatakeda and Hiraiwa won their spots after placing top 3 in overall totals from today's NHK Trophy and the previous All-Japan Championships. Sugihara, who also finished 4th here, was chosen for the 4th team spot by the selection committee over Asuka Teramoto. "I'm good with everything," she said amid tears and smiles. "Being totally honest, I don't think I could have been competitive at the Olympics had I qualified being in the condition that I am."

Women’s Gymnastics Team Final Post

All my thoughts for the women’s gymnastics team final are below:

I LOVE how they do the every other team order for the events, it makes it so much more interesting!

Oh my god I’m so tired of the announcers giving excuses as to why the USA had a bad quals, just admit they messed up holy shit.  Bridget Sloan is going on about how even though they showed some big weaknesses, the US shouldn’t be worried and it’s like...clearly they need to be and not take it for granted.  Just stop, it’s obnoxious and makes the rest of the world dislike us.

Okay, I’m glad USA has much more toned down leos, I’m a fan of just plain blocked colors and sparkles that match the colors.  

Nina Derwael is so pretty on beam, her lines are stunning.

Okay Melnikova, I see you, I SEE YOU.  It is weird you didn’t go for a more difficult vault.  

Not bad Grace, but hopefully Simone and Jordan can improve it.

Hitomi Hatakeda BARELY staying in bounds on floor was wild and so impressive omg.

Lilia Akhaimova had a BIG hop.  How did she get a 14.7 though??

Asuka Teramoto is the 2019 Japanese All-Around Champion. Her score of 55.999 on both day one and day two was enough to beat Mai Murakami’s 54.865 from day one and 55.966 from day two. Hitomi Hatakeda got third with a 54.632 on day one and a 54.766 on day two.
