FFXIVWrite2024 Prompt 16: Third-Rate

LbR Stormblood, before they leave (so before prompt 7). Rukia vents to her parents. Someone overhears.

Magnai sighed. He needed to talk to Rukia before she left again, but she seemed to be doing her damndest to avoid him. He planned to go speak with his aunt and uncle about how to talk to her when he heard his cousin’s voice.

“I plan to marry Ming and Foulques when all this mess is over.” Rukia told her parents, and Magnai caught the bitterness in her voice. “Regardless of the family’s approval.”

“We’re glad for you Rukia. Mingxia and Foulques are good people, and it means the world that you’re so happy with them.” Khadagh started with a laugh, but soon his laugh tapered off when he caught the bitterness in his daughter’s tone. “Daughter...we know from Amasar before he left the Steppe that you had been fighting with some of the others, especially Magnai, but what was it that made you leave? We never could get that truth from him.”

He heard Rukia sigh. “Magnai and I got in a bad fight. He told me I should stop looking, that I couldn’t have more than one Nhaama and that they weren’t out there. I...I wholly admit I lost it, but he threw the first punch.”

“Rukia, darling...” Hisana’s voice sounded hurt.

"Mom, dad, I know I should talk to him, but I'm not gonna waste my time listening to some third-rate apology that he doesn't mean anyway. He and the other adults made me feel so fucking alienated that I almost wish I had been born a boy so I could go join Amasar among the Buduga!"

Magnai staggered back, his eyes wide.

He had no idea that his words, spoken by a young and dumb boy of fourteen summers, had hurt her so badly.

He had always regretted being the cause of her leaving home, but to think that he had made her almost not want to be an Oronir...

His heart sank.

“Oh Ruru, sweetheart...” Hisana crooned as she reached over to hug her daughter.

“It doesn’t help that most of the people that I had told about where I came from were too stupid to realize that I left because I felt so alienated and lonely and I didn’t want to leave but I felt like I had to!” She cried as she balled her hands into fists. “I’ve missed you both and Amasar and I’ve missed home and I’ve missed Momma’s cooking and being able to spar with Dad and dance with my big brother and I...I...”

“Daughter...” Khadagh sighed as he joined his wife in hugging their baby girl as she broke down and wept, the years of everything bubbling up and welling over.

“I’ve seen so much and met so many people and I’ve fallen in love with two wonderful people who mean the absolute world to me and I nearly lost them both on separate occasions and I will gladly take exile from my tribe if he or anyone tries to tell me that I have to choose between them!!”

Magnai bowed his head. He never realized he’d hurt his cousin so badly. He would need to go think, to make a proper apology. And he was absolutely going to keep his thoughts to himself about her partners. Especially given that one of them was the new Khagan of the Steppe. He turned on his heel and headed back to the fortress. Rukia was Oronir, and he wasn’t going to drive his cousin away again. Maybe he could start by congratulating her?

Yeah these are my parents Hisana and Khadagh Oronir!

Dad’s a spear user and taught me how to spear-fish growing up. He’s also a really good dancer and taught me many traditional dances growing up. 

Mom’s a knife-user for hunting, but catch that lady in the Naadam and she’s got a massive battleaxe. She’s terrifying but powerful!

FFXIVWrite2022 Prompt 30: Sojourn

When it’s discovered that his lover’s wife is not dead, Edmont reflects on how his happiness is always fleeting and temporary, never really there to stay.

FT a ship I RARELY talk about, Edmont and his wholesome relationship with Rukia’s dad, Khadagh Oronir!

Note: Annalise is the name I’ve given to Haurchefant’s mother bc SE won’t give us a name gfdi... =_=

“By Azim’s mercy, Hisana is alive! Please come with me my dear stars, I worry for the truth of these claims.”

Edmont couldn’t help but take a breath as he waited outside of the room that kept Lady Hisana, Rukia’s mother and his sweet Khadagh’s wife, who was believed to be dead for almost a decade.

He sighed as he leaned on his cane, he was going to support Khadagh no matter what, because he knew he loved him, but he also knew that it was very likely he was going to lose yet another piece of happiness if Khadagh decided to return to his wife.

Is this how you felt, Annalise? When despite the fact that I loved you and wanted to raise our son equally as my other son I had to return to my wife and send you away?

Edmont felt tears start to build even as he restrained them. He would not cry here. He would accept Khadagh’s decision, regardless of what it was. He would mourn his sojourn happiness later, regardless of how he wished his happiness would be not so fleeting and temporary.

It’s just desserts isn’t it? Edmont wondered. After what I did to my wife and the woman I loved, and to my family...I deserve to be second before another love...

“Edmont? My darling look at me!”

Edmont blinked, how long was he lamenting over his woes that he didn’t notice Khadagh in front of him?

“Oh, forgive me, I was simply lost in thought.” Edmont explained slowly as he coughed.

“It’s alright dearest.” Khadagh soothed as he cupped his face. “Please come in and sit with us, Hisana wants to meet you.”

Edmont blinked. “She...wishes to meet me? What for?”

“My lost moon wants to meet the man that has made me happy in her absence. Please?” Khadagh pleaded, and Edmont couldn’t resist his warm brown eyes.

“Alright...” He agreed as he stood with his cane as support and held Khadagh’s hand. He smiled and pressed a kiss to his knuckles as he led him inside...

You still taking the WIP meme asks? If so, how about Sibling Shenaniganry, Fortemps Therapy, Passage of Arms, Feral Ladies and Highest Honor?

Alright this is going under a cut bc you asked for some that are gonna require some SERIOUS explanations... <.< I've thought too much about some of these shush...

SIbling Shenaniganry

This AU is the who god damn reason I have a Charibert alt (that I REALLY need to play on... <.< Maybe after I catch up on EW on my main, he’s on primal!) but this basically boils down to "What if Charibert was adopted by Auriella when he was young and went with Raven when she went to gain better control of her powers?" They experience the MSQ together, and while he can't fight against primals at first, he bails her out of plenty of dungeons. (I haven't figured out when he gets his Echo yet.) The ships that I have for the Cross siblings still kind of happen, but they're tragic, as Haurchefant is instead invited to join the Heaven's Ward, and what happens with Yotsuyu still...happens. (I hate thinking about what happened with Yotsuyu...) It's tragic later as Raven eventually succumbs to Light poisoning and crystallizes post 5.3, leaving Charibert to fight Fandaniel and Zenos on his own.

Fortemps Therapy

Oh boy...this is gonna require some context. So basically the TLDR of this is that with the help of Khadagh and Hisana Oronir (Rukia’s parents, who end up in a very cozy and wholesome triad with Edmont), the Fortemps gents finally air out all the shit that’s happened, especially how Edmont’s infidelity caused so much pain on his sons. Plus the whole “I’m in a very loving relationship with these two very wonderful people.” thing referring to the fact that he fell in love first with Khadagh, then fell in love with Hisana when she was untempered and was welcomed into their lives.

Passage of Arms (Of Vengeance)

Coronette, knowing she can’t fight primals, passes her sword to Serella to slay Thordan with because she can’t get her vengeance for Haumeric or for the rest of the Ward (but especially Haumeric.)

Two Feral Elezen Ladies

Raven and Serella vs Grinnaux and Paulecrain in their trial by combat, and them utterly TROUNCING their bitch asses because they fucked with Alphinaud and Tataru. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them made a comment about how they (Raven especially) is as ruthless as another mage they know.

Highest Honor

This one is actually kind of sweet. It’s set a little before Heavensward, when Zephirin calls upon the strongest to join the Ward. Charibert goes to tell Auriella that he’s been asked to join the Ward, even though he still has stitches on his face that later become his scar. Also this is where Magpie, their sibling who is a Viera, finds out that “Hey big bro’s not dead!”
