Hinduja Foundation Revives Hannikallu Marsh: A Beacon Of Hope For Water Conservation In Coonoor
In a significant step towards promoting water conservation, the Hinduja Foundation (HF), the philanthropic arm of the 110-year-old Hinduja Group, has successfully restored Hannikallu Marsh, a critical wetland in Wellington, Coonoor. This vital freshwater marsh, spanning over 12 acres, has been rejuvenated as part of HF’s flagship CSR program, Jal Jeevan, in collaboration with the Indian Army’s Madras Regimental Centre (MRC) and the Station HQ at Wellington.
The newly restored Eco Park was officially inaugurated by Mr. Paul Abraham, President of the Hinduja Foundation, alongside Brigadier SK Yadav, Commandant of the MRC, during a meaningful ceremony. Hannikallu Marsh, which has long been under pressure from human interference, including garbage dumping, encroachment, and sewage disposal, now stands revitalized. The wetland's restoration has led to the recharging of both shallow and deep groundwater aquifers, benefiting over 25,000 residents in the area by ensuring a steady water supply and reducing evaporation losses.
The restoration required extensive planning and effort. Care Earth Trust, the project’s NGO partner, conducted a comprehensive biodiversity assessment, identifying and removing invasive alien plant species from 33,167 square meters of the wetland. The area was subsequently rejuvenated by seeding healthy vegetation and creating islands to support local wildlife. The initiative also restored ten mountain springs that feed fresh water into Hannikallu Marsh and developed a 1.5 km-long peripheral walkway upstream. Furthermore, 2,000 cubic meters of earth was dredged, and a check dam was constructed to ensure the marsh's sustainability.
Ashok Leyland, a flagship company of the Hinduja Group, funded this critical restoration. Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Paul Abraham, President of the Hinduja Foundation, emphasized, "Water crisis is soon becoming a reality across India. According to government reports, by 2030, at least 40% of India’s 1.3 billion population may not have reliable access to drinking water. Our flagship cause, Water Stewardship, aims to save Every Drop."
Brigadier SK Yadav, Commandant of the Madras Regimental Centre, added, "This project is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mission Amrit Sarovar to restore 75 water bodies in each district. The eco-park you see today was once a natural watershed with perennial streams, historically significant as a water point since the British era. With the invaluable support of Hinduja Foundation and other stakeholders, we have transformed this area into a thriving eco-park, symbolizing a commitment to rejuvenating our natural resources.”
Mr. Prakash Hinduja, Trustee, Hinduja Foundation and Chairman of Hinduja Group, Europe, also expressed his thoughts on the project, stating, "At Hinduja Foundation, we believe in nurturing the environment for future generations. The restoration of Hannikallu Marsh is a testament to our dedication to water conservation and our belief that collective efforts can lead to a sustainable and prosperous future for all."
Under the Jal Jeevan program, the Hinduja Foundation has positively impacted over 4 million lives across 1,110 villages in India over the past five years. Among its many water conservation initiatives, the Foundation has enabled groundwater recharge equivalent to over 3.8 million water tankers and provided safe drinking water equating to 31 million jerry cans. The restoration of Hannikallu Marsh is a shining example of their ongoing commitment to preserving India's natural resources.

The Foundation of Health
Health is not just the absence of illness; it’s a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. The journey to wellness begins with the basics—regular exercise, balanced nutrition, adequate sleep, and stress management. Incorporating at least 30 minutes of physical activity into your day can significantly enhance your cardiovascular health, improve your mood, and boost your energy levels.
Eating Right
Nutrition plays a pivotal role in maintaining health. Aim for a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains while limiting processed foods and added sugars. Staying hydrated is equally important; water aids in digestion, improves skin health, and helps regulate body temperature. Small changes, like reducing portion sizes and eating mindfully, can make a big difference over time.
Mental Wellness Matters
In a world filled with constant demands, prioritizing mental health is crucial. Engage in mindfulness practices such as meditation, journaling, or yoga to manage stress and foster a positive mindset. Building strong social connections and taking time to unwind from digital distractions also contribute to emotional resilience.
Sustainable Lifestyle Choices
A healthy lifestyle extends beyond personal well-being. Embrace sustainable practices that protect the environment, such as reducing waste, using eco-friendly products, and conserving resources. These actions not only benefit the planet but also enhance your sense of purpose and fulfillment.
Finding Balance
Ultimately, health and lifestyle are about balance. Remember, perfection isn’t the goal—consistency is. Allow yourself the flexibility to enjoy life’s pleasures while staying committed to your wellness journey.
Final Thoughts
Your health is your greatest asset, and investing in it pays lifelong dividends. By adopting healthier habits today, you set the foundation for a more fulfilling tomorrow. Start small, stay consistent, and celebrate every step forward.

ABOUT US
Dr. Shekhar Bhojraj holds the prestigious distinction of being India's pioneering and dedicated specialized spine surgeon. He emerged as a trailblazing figure who wholeheartedly focused on spine care, giving rise to the super-specialty that many medical professionals have since embraced.
Upon graduating from Mumbai's KEM Medical College, he embarked on his professional journey as an orthopedic surgeon within the same institution. However, his burgeoning interest in the evolving realm of spine care drove him to explore global avenues in pursuit of further knowledge. Eventually, he honed in on spine care as his primary area of expertise and established India's first-ever specialized spine unit at KEM Hospital. Although the unit showcased commendable performance, the need for more extensive resources for research and development persisted.
Given the financial limitations tied to governmental support for this unit, certain constraints were inevitable. Hence, when an opportunity arose at Hinduja Hospital to create a dedicated spine unit within their premises, Dr. Shekhar Bhojraj recognized it as a golden chance to access greater funding for spine-related research. Hinduja Hospital emerged as India's inaugural private medical facility to house such a super-specialty unit.
Moreover, Dr. Shekhar Bhojraj's vision as the Best Spine Surgeon in Mumbai extended beyond serving solely the affluent. He harbored a strong desire to extend equivalent services to the marginalized sections of society. SERVICES
Ankylosing Spondylitis
Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory condition primarily affecting the spine. It leads to pain, stiffness, and inflammation in the joints of the vertebrae. Over time, AS can result in spinal rigidity, initially starting in the lower back and potentially extending to the upper back, neck, and other joints.
In cases of severe Ankylosing spondylitis (AS), spine surgery can be considered to enhance mobility, alleviate pain, and prevent further damage. The type of surgery depends on the severity and location of the spinal damage and may include procedures such as Decompression, Spinal Fusion, Disk Replacement, Osteotomy, and Laminectomy.
Spinal Cord Injury
Spinal cord injury is a profound condition that disrupts the connection between the brain and the body, often causing loss of mobility and sensation. These injuries can result from traumatic incidents, diseases, or degeneration. Treatment typically involves surgical interventions to relieve pressure on the spinal cord and stabilize the spine.
Surgical procedures for Spinal cord injury include decompression, which involves removing tissue or bone that compresses the spinal cord, and spinal fusion, a method that stabilizes the spine using metal components. Artificial disc replacement is used to replace damaged discs, while spinal cord stimulation involves implanting a device to manage pain and improve function. Regenerative medicine approaches utilize stem cells or other therapies to repair damaged spinal cord tissue.
Broken Neck or Back
A broken neck or back, also known as a cervical or lumbar fracture, can result in severe spinal cord damage with significant consequences. The spine, composed of 33 vertebrae, plays a crucial role in supporting the body and safeguarding the spinal cord. Fractures in these vertebrae can lead to symptoms like pain, loss of sensation, impaired motor function, and potential paralysis.
Fractures can occur due to various factors, including accidents, falls, weakened bones due to conditions like osteoporosis, spinal tumors, or infections.
Cervical Spondylosis
Cervical Spondylosis is a condition that directly impacts the spinal discs in the neck, potentially causing discomfort and pain. This degenerative ailment is often linked to the natural aging process or as a consequence of neck injuries. Cervical Spondylosis predominantly affects the upper cervical spine, which is composed of seven vertebrae. The underlying cause of Cervical Spondylosis is attributed to the gradual wear and tear of the spinal discs, leading to a gradual reduction in the cushioning between the vertebrae. Over time, this degeneration can result in the development of bone spurs, known as osteophytes. These osteophytes have the potential to exert pressure on both the nerves and the spinal cord itself.
As Cervical Spondylosis advances, individuals might encounter an array of symptoms. These symptoms encompass neck stiffness, pain, headaches, numbness, weakness in the arms, coordination difficulties, and, in more severe cases, challenges involving swallowing or speaking. It is imperative to emphasize the necessity of seeking timely medical attention when these symptoms manifest. Swift intervention ensures proper diagnosis and the implementation of appropriate treatment strategies for Cervical Spondylosis.
Cauda Equina Syndrome
Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES) is a rare but severe condition that requires immediate attention. It occurs due to the compression of the cauda equina, a bundle of nerves at the base of the spinal cord. This compression leads to neurological symptoms and, if not treated promptly, can cause lasting damage. Recognizing its causes, identifying symptoms, accurate diagnosis, and timely treatment are crucial for managing CES effectively. Preventive measures can also reduce the risk of developing this debilitating condition.
Causes of Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES) include herniated discs, spinal tumors, infections, spinal stenosis, trauma, and inflammatory conditions. Symptoms develop rapidly and include lower back pain, leg weakness, numbness, incontinence, and sexual dysfunction. An accurate diagnosis through physical exams and imaging is essential.
Spondylolisthesis
Spondylolisthesis is a spinal disorder characterized by one vertebra shifting in relation to another, often causing pain and instability. It can be caused by defects in the pars interarticularis (isthmic), degeneration (degenerative), or trauma (traumatic).
Symptoms include lower back pain, potential nerve compression leading to sciatica, and reduced mobility. Diagnosis involves a medical history, physical exam, and imaging such as X-rays, MRI, or CT scans. Treatment varies: mild cases can be managed with rest, therapy, and pain relief, while severe cases might require surgery like decompression or spinal fusion. Prevention focuses on maintaining proper posture, engaging in exercise, and avoiding risky activities.
Kyphosis
Kyphosis is a medical condition characterized by excessive curvature of the upper spine, resulting in a hunched-back appearance. It can affect individuals of all ages, causing discomfort and mobility issues. Causes include poor posture, osteoporosis, congenital factors, diseases like Scheuermann's, and injuries. Symptoms range from visible rounding of the upper back, back pain, muscle stiffness, to neurological problems if nerves are compressed.
Treatment approaches vary based on severity and cause. Mild cases can benefit from lifestyle changes and physical therapy. Cases related to osteoporosis require bone health management. Braces are helpful for children, while surgery is an option for severe cases. Preventive measures include maintaining good posture, regular exercise, proper nutrition, and avoiding strain.

Get help with education fundraising - Centre For Fundraising
Education is an important foundation for any country. It shapes the minds of future generations and holds the power to make or break a society. In India, access to education has been one of the major issues that the country has faced for decades despite significant progress in recent years. With over 200 million children living in impoverished conditions, rising tuition fees, and lack of access to basic learning facilities, raising funds for education in India is essential if we want to create a brighter future for its citizens. In this article, we’ll discuss different methods you can use to raise funds for education in India, including crowdfunding campaigns and other charitable initiatives.
The Cost of Higher Education
The cost of fundraising for higher education like universities in India has been on the rise in recent years. While the government has been working to make college more affordable, the reality is that many students and families are still struggling to pay for school.
There are a number of factors driving up the cost of college in India. One is the increasing demand for higher education. As the economy has grown and jobs have become more competitive, more and more students are seeking out college degrees. This has led to an increase in tuition prices.
Another factor driving up costs is the lack of government investment in higher education. The Indian government spends less on higher education than any other country in the world, as a percentage of GDP. This means that colleges and universities must rely heavily on private funding, which often comes with high tuition.
Finally, another reason for rising college costs is the devaluation of the rupee. As the currency has weakened, so has the purchasing power of Indian families. This has made it harder for them to afford tuition fees, especially when they are already struggling with other expenses such as food and housing costs.
Despite these challenges, there are a number of ways to raise funds for education in India. One is through philanthropic organizations like The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation or The Hinduja Foundation, which provide scholarships and grants to students from low-income families. Another option is to crowdfund your education through platforms like Ketto or BitGiving. You can also look into
Why Fundraise for Higher Education?
There are many reasons for fundraising for higher education like universities in India. One reason is that the vast majority of Indians cannot afford to pay for college on their own. By fundraising, you can help make higher education more affordable and accessible for Indian students.
Another reason to fundraise is that higher education can help reduce poverty and improve economic opportunities in India. By supporting higher education, you can help break the cycle of poverty and give more people the chance to build a better future for themselves and their families.
Finally, by fundraising for higher education in India, you can help create a more educated and skilled workforce that can attract foreign investment and spur economic growth. This will benefit not only India but also the global economy as a whole.
Who Can Fundraise for Higher Education?
There are many ways to raise funds for higher education in India. One option is to contact the Indian government for scholarships and financial aid. Another way to raise funds is through private organizations and charities. There are also many online platforms that allow individuals to raise money for their education.
How to Fundraise for Higher Education
If you're looking to fundraising for higher education like universities in India, there are a few things to keep in mind. Firstly, make sure you have a clear purpose and goal for your fundraising campaign. Secondly, identify your target audience and craft your pitch accordingly. And finally, choose the most efficient and effective method of fundraising that will work best for you.
One popular way of fundraising for higher education in India is through crowdfunding platforms like Fundmyeducation.com. By creating a campaign on such a platform, you can reach out to a large number of people who might be willing to support your cause. Apart from online crowdfunding, offline methods like holding bake sales or charity events are also quite effective in raising funds for higher education in India.

Cyberbullying - Basic information
Cyberbullying is defined as "an aggressive, purposeful act or behavior carried out by a group or an individual, utilizing electronic means of interaction, repeatedly and over time against a victim who cannot readily defend himself or herself" (Moreno 2014). Many definitions exist, including the National Crime Prevention Council's more explicit definition: "the process of utilizing the Internet, mobile phones, or other devices to email or upload text or photographs designed to harm or shame another person" (Chapin 2014).
Cyberbullying is frequently comparable to conventional bullying, with a few noticeable differences. Because of the online nature of the contact, victims of cyberbullying may not know the identify of their abuser or why the bully is targeting them. Harassment can have far-reaching consequences for the victim since the content used to harass the victim is easily distributed and shared among many individuals, and it frequently stays accessible long after the initial occurrence (Pettalia, Levin & Dickinson 2013).
Cyberbullying occurs when a person, usually a teenager, bullies or harasses people on the internet and other digital environments, notably social networking platforms. Posting rumors, threats, sexual remarks, a victim's personal information, or derogatory labels are all examples of harmful bullying conduct (i.e. hate speech). Bullying or harassment can be distinguished by persistent action and a malicious purpose. Victims of cyberbullying may feel reduced self-esteem, increased suicide thoughts, and a variety of unpleasant emotional responses such as fear, frustration, anger, or depression (Sameer Hinduja & Patchin 2015).
A variety of harmful repercussions of cyberbullying victimization have been proven through research.
The detrimental impacts of cyberbullying vary by nation and other demographics. According to some experts, there may be a method to employ contemporary computer tools to detect and prevent cyberbullying. (Hinduja & Patchin 2008; Kumar & Sachdeva 2019).
Notice this form of harassment, The Cybersmile Foundation has been founded. The Cybersmile Foundation is a cyberbullying charity committed to tackling all forms of online bullying, abuse, and hate campaigns. It was founded in 2010 in response to the increasing number of cyberbullying related incidents of depression, eating disorders, social isolation, self-harm and suicides devastating lives around the world. Cybersmile provides support to victims and their friends and families through social media interaction, email and helpline support. They also run an annual event, Stop Cyberbullying Day, to draw attention to the issue.
