Guidance For Conducting Ganesh Chaturthi Puja In The Comfort Of Your Home
Tumblr media
Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is a vibrant and joyous Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed God of wisdom, prosperity, and good fortune. Elaborate rituals, devotional songs, and grand processions mark this auspicious occasion. One of the most cherished traditions during Ganesh Chaturthi is the Ganesh Chaturthi Puja, where devotees invite the presence of Lord Ganesha into their homes and hearts.
Conducting this sacred puja in the comfort of your abode can be a profoundly fulfilling and spiritually uplifting experience. Here, we provide you with a comprehensive guide to conducting Ganesh Chaturthi Puja at home, ensuring that the divine blessings of Lord Ganesha grace your space.
Understanding Ganesh Chaturthi: Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated enthusiastically across India and various parts of the world. It usually falls in August or September and lasts for ten days. The festival's highlight is the installation of the Ganesha murti, also known as a Ganapathi statue or Ganapathy statue, in homes and public places. These intricately crafted idols depict Lord Ganesha in various poses, with the dancing Ganesha statue being a popular choice symbolizing joy and celebration.
Preparing for the Puja:
Selecting the Idol: Choose a suitable Ganesha idol for your home puja. Pay attention to the size and material of the idol, keeping in mind the available space and your preferences. The dancing Ganesha statue can infuse a dynamic and festive spirit into your puja space.
Creating the Puja Space: Set up a clean and tranquil space for the puja. Decorate it with vibrant flowers, colourful rangoli, and traditional lamps to create an inviting ambience. Ensure that the puja area is free from distractions and noise.
Gathering Puja Items: Collect the necessary puja items such as flowers, incense sticks, camphor, turmeric, sandalwood paste, sacred water (jal), fruits, sweets, and traditional offerings. You can also include modak, a favourite of Lord Ganesha.
Conducting the Puja:
Purify Yourself: Before beginning the puja, shower and wear clean, traditional clothing. This helps create a sense of purity and reverence.
Invoking Lord Ganesha: Light the incense sticks and invoke Lord Ganesha's presence by chanting his mantra, "Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha." Place the idol on a raised platform and offer flowers, sandalwood paste, and sacred water while reciting prayers.
Performing Rituals: Perform the Shodashopachara Puja, which involves sixteen steps of offering to the deity. Offer flowers, incense, lamps, fruits, and sweets while reciting prayers and hymns that extol Lord Ganesha's virtues.
Aarti and Bhajans: Conclude the puja with the Ganesha Aarti, waving a lit lamp in a circular motion. Sing devotional songs and bhajans that praise Lord Ganesha's glory.
At the end of the festival, the Ganesha idol is immersed in water, symbolizing the cycle of birth and rebirth. If you have chosen an eco-friendly clay idol, you can submerge it in a water bucket and then use it for plants. This practice aligns with environmental consciousness and respects nature.
Ganesh Chaturthi is an occasion for bonding and spiritual connection. Involve your family members in the puja, explaining the significance of each ritual. Share stories about Lord Ganesha's wisdom and playfulness, instilling in the younger generation a sense of devotion and reverence.
Conducting Ganesh Chaturthi Puja at home is a cherished tradition that strengthens families and their spiritual bonds. Following these guidelines, you can create a sacred and serene environment where Lord Ganesha's divine presence can be experienced and cherished. The dancing Ganesha statue, capturing the spirit of joy and celebration, serves as a reminder of the optimism and enthusiasm that the deity represents. As you immerse yourself in the rituals and prayers, may Lord Ganesha bless your home with wisdom, prosperity, and a harmonious atmosphere.

Fun fact! The god Vishnu is probably the most famous hindu god and, according to hindu texts, he would stalk women as they were bathing and then steal their clothes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Only after the women begged him would he return their clothes and let them dress themselves and leave. Of course men made lots of art about this beautiful event.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's funny how male gods act exactly like male humans isn't it? What lesson are hindu women supposed to take from this? Well the metropolitan museum has a perfectly good explanation: "Krishna, the mischievous Divine Cowherd, has stolen the clothes of the bathing gopis, who shiver with cold but also with delight in their devotion to their lord. This splendid allegory of spiritual love-" excuse me what? the splendid what? lol Krishna is Vishnu in case you're wondering, he's an avatar of Vishnu kind of like Jesus is the avatar of God etc. Anyway, the museum details: "it recounts his playful theft of the clothes of the female cowherds, the gopis, who had left their clothes on the Yamuna River bank while bathing. Krishna placed them high in the branches of a tree, in which he is seen perched, daring the gopis to venture from the water. Metaphorically, this story serves to convey the power of devotion, to stand vulnerable before one’s God, secure in the power of bhakti, the unquestioning devotion to one’s god." ah it's not a creepy story it's just like if you love god and you're a woman you need to show him your body and beg him for your clothes and stuff. Makes sense.
Tumblr media
Still according to hinduism, humans were created by the god Brahma.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Brahma was a pervert "in love" with his own daughter, the goddess Śatarūpā. She tried to run from him so he grew several heads and arms to reach her no matter where she tried to hide. He grew four heads to look at her from every cardinal direction, she couldn't escape his gaze. He's a buddhist idol still represented with his 4 heads and arms for better stalking.
Fun facts all around... I love religions.

If you don't mind I have a question about Islamic culture, I'm thinking about how Christians have statues of Christ and saints, other religions have statues of the Buddah and Hindu gods, it's a very common thing across many religions. Judaism doesn't really have that as far as I know but there aren't really prophets in the same way as xtianity. But Islam does have various prophets and significant historical figures, but I have never seen any statues made in their images. Is this a thing, not allowed or just not culturally uh, common I guess? Thank you :3
Islam has always pertained to a rather iconoclastic tradition and has shown fierce opposition to visual imagery in various forms, while some schools and branches of Islam are not as strict. Historically, alternative forms of art have been produced as a result. Indeed, Islamic art are traditionally non-representational in the form of Islamic calliography and Islamic geometric patterns, which is usually seen in mosque, shrines and various Islamic buildings.
The basis for the impermissibility of such visual imagery in the form of sculptures or carved objects representing a living being is rooted in Islam's strict monotheistic approach. The nascent Muslim community had to deal with the polytheist tribe of Quraish which worshiped idols in the form of sculptures. The Prophet Muhammed (sawas) showed disdain for such worshiping and exemplified their uselessness to the people by throwing them to the ground.
However, while sculpturing is pretty much a non-go, this impermissibility is not extended to art in the form of two-dimensional figures. While various schools of Islam differ in the opinion of drawing, not all of them are unanimous, this has allowed for Islamic art to take the shape of form in different ways. For example, Shi'a Islam allows visual respresentation through the use of a two-dimensional surface, such as a canvas, regardless of whether it is a living being or not. This is why you'll find that art of the prophets, imams and the holy ladies are pretty commonplace among Shi'a Muslims.
While sculpturing any object representing a living being is unanimously considered impermissible in all Islamic schools of law, art in the form two-dimensional paintings are not.

bro oh my god it's so fucking frustrating how everyone even the many hindus themselves have forgotten the actual torture and horrors inflicted on Hindus by the islamic invaders.
like genuinely why? if people's hate towards Israel for what it's doing to Palestine and Jews hate for N*zis Justified then why is Hindu people's hate and dislike for islam gets everyone squirming in their seats?
like Israel deserves hate because they're so cruel and bad !! N*zis deserve hate for what they did to Jews because it was cruel and bad !!
and just like that Mughals deserve hate for the oppression, torture and horrors they inflicted on hindus for more than 500+ years right? RIGHT? wrong because the moment a Hindu or anyone for a matter of fact raises this issue and expresses their dislike they get absolutely teared down to shreds by others as if he has committed the biggest sin. why? why are we not allowed to hate islam and islamic invaders when they had quite literally forcefully entered India, Killed hindu men, kidnapped their wives and r*ped them making them their sex slaves not even leaving a corpse alone and it got so bad that hindu women had to start Jauhar/sati and chose to burn themselves just to be safe from these disgusting pigs, slaughtered cows in front of temples, destroyed hindu temples and idols then stepped on it, forcefully converted the hindus, fed hindus beef forcefully, killed so many you g hindu kings and princes and so much more and this horrendous torture continued till the last reigning mughal emperor.
and after all of this i still see so many muslims cursing hindu gods in the most nasty way possible and saying such disgusting things it makes me shivers and let's not forget about the hindus that are being killed in Pakistan and Kashmir and all of this why? just because hindus started doing exactly what muslims were doing to them? just because they started fighting back?
so tell me why? why is the hatred and dislike of hindus not justified but the hatred of muslims is justified? tell me why even so many hindus are protesting for palestine and standing against Israel but the moment a hindu says anything about islam these same people along with muslims and all start attacking them cancelling them but they go quiet when a muslim does the same thing?
it is a genuine question. i just want to know why do people still defend mughals while throwing the sacrifice and torture hindus had to go through under the bus?
