It's been almost 5 years since they ended the Killing Game. It been almost 5 years since Tsumugi died to her own Game. It been almost 5 years since they get out of the borders of their academy.
It been almost 5 years and yet, it still hurt a lot. However, no matter how much it hurt, there was a relief in ending the Killing Game and making it the last one to claim lives. That relief, along with the New Year itself, deserved to be celebrated with a small party, Himiko had suggested. While her suggestion got accepted, her and Shuichi had to be ones to start it; since Maki was busy. It wasn't going to be a huge thing like students in their age would do, just a little celebration for all of them. So, why the heck Shuichi decided to do everything on his own? Yeah, that was a mystery.
"You didn't have to do everything by yourself, you know?" Himiko started as she sat down. "İt's a `part`y, not a `single`y, everyone takes a part in the preparation of it." Despite the complaint, she couldn't bring herself to dislike his attempts, let alone hate him for it. It just felt like they dumped all the burden of party on Shuichi. Fake or not, if there is one thing she learned from her Ultimate memories, it would be that huge attempts and preparation like these must be done together; not all alone.
She took her own mug at the gesture, than clinked it with Shuichi. "Here's for the last year, here's to another year for us to survive; and here's to us for surviving all of it. Cheers, Shuichi."
Himiko shook her head after the clink. She raised the mug to take a sip before setting it down and holding the chopsticks. "To be honest, anything you cooked is probably way better than whatever abomination I would create in the kitchen. I've never learned how to do the cooking spell, unfortunately. So, we have to rely on your food magic for this party." She replied humorously as she took a small bite out of the rice. "Seriously though, you cook very well, Shuichi. Maybe you should teach me or something."

The holidays should have normally felt like a happy time for Shuichi. But after everything he and his friends went through, the seemingly neverending nightmare that was killing game until they finally escaped that hell; how could he possibly feel the usual joy this time of year would bring... but he also didn't want to just feel miserable all the time. It wasn't as if he was alone: he has Himiko and Maki, the other two that survived with him.
In fact, Himiko had suggested something nice: a little celebration party for surviving through the killing game. While Maki was out and about, now, he was sure she would join in this little party once she's back. He even went and ordered a cake for them; similar to a Christmas cake one would order on the holiday.. That, and he made karaage rice bowls, saving a plate for Maki, of course.
"Here is your bowl, Himiko..." He sets it down on the table before her, before sitting down with his own. He also made them mugs of pepermint tea as well. Holding up his mug, he gestures for Himiko to do the same, so they can clank them together: like how people with do with glasses of champagne. "Here's to us surviving through that hell... cheers."

He clinks his mug against hers, giving a small smile. "I... hope you'll enjoy dinner, Himiko. It's... been a while since I've cooked for more than just me. I've kind of missed it, honestly..."
