Renowned as “a trekker’s paradise”, Barot Valley is positioned in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh and is perched at an altitude of 1,829 m (6,001 ft above sea level). Barot a village originally developed in 1920s for Shanan Hydel Project, is now a tourist location in Mandi district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Barot was difficult to access until 1975, when a road was opened. It is situated 40 km from Jogindernagar and 65 km from Mandi, the District Headquarter. The road to Barot branches off at Jogindernagar-Mandi Highway and from Jogindernagar the distance is 40 km. It is sometimes possible to use the funicular trolley from Jogindernagar which reduces the distance to 12 km. The road route includes terraced fields and thick cedar forests, rising to Jhatingri at the hilltop. The remains of the summer palace of the former rulers of Mandi are located here. Through the little village of Tikkan, the road carries on to Barot. The town has a range of outdoor activities, including a trout breeding centre, from where fish are released into the Uhl river. A 30 km section of the river is used for angling. What this tour is about: The Golden Triangle (Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur) is the most popular tourist circuit in India, and not without reason. Delhi is an old city, where the grand ruins of dead Empires dot the landscape. Agra is home to the exquisite Taj Mahal. And Jaipur is a picture-book fantasy of elephants, camels, forts and exotic palaces. But there’s more to the Golden Triangle than beautiful monuments and ruins. The cities of the Golden Triangle are a living microcosm of India, where multiple religions and faiths co-exist. Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and Muslims still follow ancient ways of life, celebrating festivals and fairs as their forefathers did. Philosophy and religion determine all aspects of life, from birth to death. Village and agricultural life follow traditional patterns, governed by the seasons. Traditional artisans and craftsmen still work in guilds, creating both the mundane and the beautiful. The bazaars are teeming with spices, fruits, vegetables, colourful fabrics, jewellery and household wares. Vendors serve up a wide range of spicy street food, confectioners cook up traditional delicacies, and yes, cows do wander about the streets! Seeing and understanding this real India is what makes the Golden Triangle fascinating. Combined with the outstanding beauty of forts, tombs, palaces and temples, this is a visit you will not forget............

Like all popular tourist destinations, Delhi, Agra and North India have their share of cookie-cutter tours and standard itineraries. But if you prefer something more insightful and interesting, take a look at the tours listed on our Tour Menu. These tours have been designed by people with a deep understanding of India’s history, culture, cuisine and quirks. In Delhi, we’ll show you the city’s grand monuments and attractions, but we’ll also show you the ‘real’ Delhi – its people, its religions, its streets and bazaars. In Agra, we’ll take you to the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, but we can also help you discover fascinating aspects of life under the Mughals. In Rajasthan and Northern India, we'll ensure your itinerary showcases the rich diversity that India has to offer. We offer personalised tours by car for independent travellers, bus tours for larger groups, and walking tours for small groups of 2-6 people. Our Tour Guides, many of them women, are knowledgeable, articulate and professional, and they enjoy taking visitors around. Apart from the tours listed on the right-hand menu of this page, if there’s something else you want to see and do, we’d love to create a custom-itinerary for you......................

Top Attractions in IndiaGeographically India stretches from the tropical lushness of the Indian Ocean coasts to the high Himalaya, with virtually every conceivable terrain between. Combine this with a history dating back thousands of years and the result is a land of incredible diversity and endless fascination. A rich melting pot of religions and languages, regional cultural and culinary traditions and festivals, splendid artistic and architectural styles. Climate- India has such a wide range of climatic factors that it’s impossible to pin down the best time to visit weather-wise with any certainty. Broadly speaking October to March tend to be the most pleasant months over much of the country. In the far south, the monsoon weather pattern tends to make January to September more pleasant, while Sikkim and the areas of northeastern India tend to be more palatable between March and August, and Kashmir and the mountainous regions of Himachal Pradesh are at their most accessible between May and September. The deserts of Rajasthan and the northwestern Indian Himalayan region are at their best during the monsoon. India is a land of festivals and fairs. Every day of the year there is a festival celebrated in some part of the country. Some festivals welcome the seasons of the year, the harvest, the rains, or the full moon. Others celebrate religious occasions, the birthdays of divine beings, saints, and gurus (revered teachers), or the advent of the New Year. A number of these festivals are common to most parts of India. However, they may be called by different names in various parts of the country or may be celebrated in a different fashion. Religion- religion seeps into every facet of Indian life. Despite being a secular democracy, India is one of the few countries in which the social and religious structures that define the nation’s identity remain intact, and have continued to do so for at least 4000 years despite invasions, persecution, European colonialism and political upheaval. Change is inevitably taking place as modern technology reaches further and further into the fabric of society but essentially rural India remains much the same as it has for thousands of years. So resilient are its social and religious institutions that it has absorbed, ignored or thrown off all attempts to radically change or destroy them.

If you chat with a local in Varanasi, you'll soon discover that the city is made up almost entirely of legends. In fact, it is impossible to figure out where myth ends and history begins.
The river Ganges, the temples and the ghats are the sites of many mythological stories from the ancient Puranas, imbuing Varanasi with extraordinary sanctity. Apart from being a sacred Hindu tirtha (crossing-point or ford, literally a place where you cross over into the next world), Varanasi is sacred to Buddhists and Jains as well.
Alongside its religious aspects, the city has also been an important trading centre. Local arts and crafts have flourished here for centuries. It has been the birthplace of poetry, literature and music. It continues to be a leading centre of knowledge, and is home to several campuses imparting both traditional and modern education.
Come, let us explore the city of Shiva together - it is a journey, both for the body and the mind. There are walks, boat rides as well as explorations by car, depending on your interests. If there is something other than these tours which you want to experience, let us know and we will be glad to assist.

For a fascinating glimpse into Old Delhi, try our Chandni Chowk walk. What this tour is about: Chandni Chowk (Moonlight Square) is without doubt, the busiest market area in Delhi. It dates back to 1638, when Emperor Shahjahan shifted his capital from Agra to Delhi. His daughter Jahanara constructed a square, around which a busy market grew. Today, Chandni Chowk is home to silversmiths, repair shops, clothiers, spicy street food vendors and traditional sweetmeat shops. During this walk, we will explore not just the bazaar, but also the cultural landscape of this area. Places we will visit:  We will visit Dariba Kalan (the silver market), Kinari Bazaar (wedding market) and Paranthewali Galli (Lane of Parathas). We'll visit Gurdwara Sees Ganj Sahib, built at the site where Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, was beheaded for refusing to convert to Islam. We will go past Jama Masjid, Delhi’s famous Friday mosque. We will also see Hindu temples, Jain derasars and churches, all standing cheek-by-jowl, making up the amazing tapestry of religion in India. Total Walking Time: 2-3 hours depending on your interest When: Mornings at 9:00 a.m. and afternoons at 3:00 p.m. from Jama Masjid Gate Number 3. Prior reservation required. Tour not offered on Sundays. What to wear: Please dress modestly and ensure you have adequate sun protection. Some religious monuments require both men and women to cover the head with a scarf or a large handkerchief. If you forget to bring these, they will lend you something, but it is better to bring your own. You have to take off your shoes at places of worship. Leather articles such as belts and handbags are not permitted in the Jain derasar........................

The beauty of the dry deciduous forests of India reaches the peak when most trees have dropped their leaves, and the Flame of the Forest is in its full bloom. Some of you might be interested to know that spoons made of this tree are used for ghee-oblations, and in the days before matchboxes, the bark of this tree was lit and used to start the daily agnihotram at sunrise and sunset. Because the tree is indigenous to India, it finds mention in many literary sources, from vedas to love poetry. If you've heard about the Battle of Plassey - where the English defeated the Nawab of Bengal - that comes from Palash, the Bengali word for this tree. Tagore chose the Palash to celebrate the basanta ustsav at Santiniketan. See that little curved hook on the flower? Like Santhali women, you too can use the hook to tuck the flower behind your ear as you walk the lanes of Santiniketan. Photo clicked by yours truly, in Ranthambhore. You can also spot these trees in Delhi, in the Central Ridge, or at Qutb Complex, or near the Kalkaji temple.

Agra is among the most popular tourist destinations in India, and not without reason.
Agra City: For over a 100 years, the city of Agra was the capital of the mighty Mughal Empire. Three generations of Mughal kings ruled from Agra; and their legendary wealth and love of beauty found expession in outstanding art and architecture. Apart from the exquisite Taj Mahal, and the impressive Agra Fort (a UNESCO World Heritage site), Agra city also contains many other heritage monuments that combine Persian, Hindu and Islamic influences.
But there’s more to Agra than beautiful buildings.
The city of Agra is a tiny microcosm of India, where multiple religions and faiths co-exist. Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims still follow ancient ways of life, celebrating festivals and fairs as their forefathers did. Agra is surrounded by villages and farmlands, from where people flock to the city for their daily needs. Agra’s bazaars are teeming with spices, fruits, vegetables, colourful fabrics, jewellery and household wares, giving you a great look at daily life in North India.
Around Agra: Agra, with its well-developed tourist infrastructure, also makes a good base from which to explore surrounding regions.
Agra is barely an hour away from the Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary (Bharatpur), a designated Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention (and also a UNESCO World Heritage site). Very near the bird sanctuary lies the well-preserved Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri, yet another UNESCO World Heritage site.
The medieval cities of Gwalior, Jhansi and Orchha are short train rides away, and can be visited as day excursions. If you are interested in birding and nature, you can make an overnight trip from Agra to the Chambal river valley, famous for gharials, marsh crocodiles, otters, turtles and several birds including the sarus crane and the Indian skimmer.
