Detox Ya Life  (part 1) – 12 ways you can reduce the toxins in your life!

Most of us by now understand and realize we are living in a toxic world. The air pollutants, the fluoridated water, the GMOs in food, the BPAs in food packaging, the mercury in dental fillings, the household toxins, the various toxins in our skin care, I mean the list of toxins we are exposed to daily is astronomical! Toxins damage every aspect of our bodies causing cellular damage that can later result in chronic disease. If you don't get serious about detoxing ya life, you can pretty much bet on having diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney disorders, liver damage, dementia, or Alzheimer’s later on in life.

Genetics and family history can give you insight about which of these chronic diseases you are most susceptible to, but it's unlikely that your common physical examination will give you an early warning. A standard physical exam does not measure how toxic the body is or its current capacity to detox. This prevents us from detecting when cells are not performing properly, which is the first sign of chronic disease. If you are experiencing symptoms that can't seemed to be explained by your doctor, you may want to consult with a naturopathic physician to understand if excessive toxic load can be the cause of some of your medical conditions.

Knowing that you are exposed to toxins all the time and knowing that your typical checkup isn't checking much, it is safe to assume that you are on toxic overload!  Toxins store themselves in our bodies mainly in our fat cells. We may notice subtle symptoms of toxic overload like fatigue, acne, brain fog or allergies, but nothing too alarming that might warrant you to seek further medical attention. Detoxing should be a part of everyone’s health regimen no matter how often you exercise or how healthy you eat. The fact remains that there are plenty of environmental toxins that we are exposed to daily that we simply can’t shield ourselves from. Although, there are some toxins we can't avoid, there are many that are avoidable. It is time to get informed, cleanse your body; and DETOX YA LIFE!  

1. Use a Shower Filter - the skin is our largest organ and reducing the amount of toxins you absorb into the skin can drastically reduce your toxic load. Most of us take showers every day and are exposing our skin to heavy metals found in the water supply. Shower filters range in price (I’ve seen some as low as $40) and will remove chlorine and other toxic elements from your showers.

   2. Use All Natural Personal Care/Skin Products - the cosmetics, deodorants, lotions, perfumes, toothpaste and various other skin care products that you typically find in a pharmacy or supermarket are loaded with aluminum and other heavy metals. Natural emollients like shea and cocoa butters, coconut and other oils moisturize the skin without leaving behind all the toxic garbage. There have been plenty of studies linking toxins found in deodorants to breast cancer. It is important to find toxic free alternatives that work for your body! I personally make my own moisturizers, soap, and toothpaste using all natural ingredients, and you can even do it too. 3. Use only Organic Seasonings/Spices - We generally use the same seasonings and spices when cooking. Sadly, most of the spices and seasonings you find in the grocery store are loaded with toxins.One of the most common toxins found in seasonings being monosodium glutamate also known as MSG! There are scientific studies revealing MSG causes brain damage, weight gain and other nervous system disorders.

4. Stop buying canned/processed foods- Canned and packaged foods are typically loaded with toxins, most notably BPAs. It is best not to consume any canned foods. Buy fresh and frozen foods whenever possible.

5. Buy organic foods as much as you can - As often as you can, buy local and/or organic foods. Make this a priority when doing the financial detox (step #11)! Supporting independent farmers is important to keep agriculture alive and competitive in our country. Buy Pink Himalayan salt lamps - We are exposed to EMF and radiation waves now more than ever before in history.  These frequencies are emitted from wireless devices including cell phones, tablets, PCs, smart TVs, etc. Studies have shown EMF and radiation causes cellular damage that lead to several chronic diseases. 7. Drink Plenty of Water - Drinking sufficient amounts of water will help to flush your body of stored toxins. You should drink at least 64 ounces of water daily.

 11. Financial Detox – There are so many things we will need to buy and replace to Detox ya life. From this list alone, you will need to buy a shower filter, new personal care products, cookware, organic foods, salt lamps. I bet you are wondering where will the money come from to buy all these things. Review your spending, start preparing a budget, and prioritize what is important to you. Make a financial plan and set some financial goals that align with your health and wellness goals. Find and cut out big spending and instant gratification purchases. Save money and cut costs. Build up an emergency fund. Make savvy investments. Begin working on a financial plan for your life that will give you peace of mind and take away the stress of living paycheck to paycheck.

12. Relationships Detox – Changing old, bad habits is one of the most difficult things we can do. That is why it is important to surround yourself with supportive, inspiring people.  If you have toxic people in your life that constantly spew negativity, doubt, fears, hatred, judgment…..keep your distance! Work on creating a circle of supporters, advisors, mentors, cheerleaders, listeners, and people who want to see you WIN! Let go of the haters no matter how much you love and care for them, you must care for and protect yourself first!
