"He was young and reckless, but loving you is another exception. After all this time refrained his feelings that spilled over in the midst of rain, he only wished for you to return his favor."

Contents & warnings : smut mdni! , hurt/comfort, slowburns, bestfriend to lovers, TW! mention of abused, soft dom! seonghwa, gentle sex, oral (receiving), multiple orgasm, fingering, unprotected sex, creampie, after care.
Tumblr media
He is the nostalgic night, the comfort of your frantic mind, the steady shelter under the pouring rain, the warmth in the middle of snow storm, and the salvation of your helpless soul.
You know it’s too much to describe him that way, but reality never proves you wrong. Living in the countryside on secluded area with your parents’ unstable marriage is definitely driving you insane. But, there’s always something that brings the joy whenever you feels his presence. It’s him Park Seonghwa.
Best friend? No. Just friends? Both of you are knowing each other for almost the rest of your life the second you’ve started walking on the ground. Childhood sweetheart? Yeah, maybe that’s the right thing to called your friendship status with him.
Growing up with him made you realize that the dynamic between you two is a bit weird, it’s like 'close but not that close' relationship. He know what’s happen in your life and so did you, but you’re not shared everything to each other. Just like when he’ll come to comfort you that bawling your eyes out in the middle of the night on the hill back of your house. He just sitting next to you, patting your back gently until your crying subsided. Didn’t ask a single word until you wanted to tell him everything what you’ve been through.
Or he will treat your wounds in silence, only giving you one or two questions at the most just to divert his anger.
“Again?” Furrowed his eyebrows while he dabbed your wounds with the cotton soaked in antiseptic.
You only nodded as you wincing in pain everytime it touches your grazed skin. He really hate to see you like that, his jaw tighten the entire time he treated you. Well, there’s nothing you can do, you’re still a minor and still live under those parents of yours, unless avoiding your abusive father is the only option you’ll take.
He tucked a few strands of hair that fall over your face behind your ears, “It’s done. I’ll help to treat it again tomorrow, just come to me okay?” His face looked somber when you met his eyes. You sure he felt frustrated too because this doesn’t happen once or twice.
“Yeah.. Thanks Hwa.” You gave him a reassuring smile, as if to say everything was fine.
But it’s all different at school, you almost never talk to each other. Being in different class and different circles of friends, make it less likely for you to cross paths with him. Well, he's quite famous. How could he not be, he's tall, handsome, dance genius, and also quite smart academically. On top of that his personality makes him liked by a lot of his friends including you.
Sometimes he stole glances at your class, looking for your figure who is immersed in reading your favorite literature book. Only to make sure you’re fine after seeing your smiley face surrounded by your friends. He felt relieve, there’s nothing to worry about.
✧
“Oh.. hi Mrs. Park, is Seonghwa home? ” A little surprised, didn't expect it to be his mother who opened the door after you were knocking for a few times.
“Yes, come in sweetie,” she invited you in, giving you a warm smile that reminds you how it’s exactly like Seonghwa’s. You stepped slowly, feeling awkward due to sudden meet with her. It’s been a long time since you visited his house, you believed it’s when you’re still in the middle school. Then both of you only met outside all the time.
After exchanged small talk, she pointed towards the stairs. “By the way, just go to his room, he’s been there since morning. I’ll make some snacks for you.” She winked then proceed to leave you to the kitchen. You only shook your head after looking at what was his mother did. But at least you feel happy that you’re so warmly accepted here unlike in your own home.
You climbed the stairs carefully before knocking on his door. “Seonghwa.. I’ts me.” Tapping your foot as you waiting for him, but no answer heard from inside. You decided to open his door only to find him sleeping peacefully with a headphone still intact to his ears. Some books were open, scattered around him. He must be tired studying all the day.
You crouched down, bringing your head closer to the same level of his headphone, wanting to hear what song that was playing. Ah, it’s the same song you listened together a few years ago. As soon as you grasp it, you hummed the melody, bopping your head a little to the left and right.
Until you turned towards him, he’d been watching you for who knows how long it is. He shifted his headphone slightly, blinking for a few times still half asleep. His fingertips slowly caress the plastered wound on your cheeks, looking at it closely with a hurt stare.
“Seonghwa?” Your voice brought him to his sense. He immediately sat on the bed, patting to his side, gestured you to sit next to him.
“I’m sorry, I overslept.” He said, while his hand is busy reaching for something inside the drawer.
Your eyes fell back to the pile of his books. “It’s okay hwa.”
Suddenly he removed your band-aid gently, then applying a thin layer of the ointment on top of your wound. His face is so close to you, make you staring to his long lashes every time he blinked. The way he showed his earnest expression was fascinated you, to the point you didn’t hear what was he said.
“Are you there?” He’s still focused treating your wound with patience.
You shook your head slightly, “Uhm sorry, can you repeat it again?”
“Well, since the graduation is near, I decided to go to college.”
Your heart dropped after hearing that. It means he’ll moved out to the city and you won’t see him for a while, leaving you alone in this small town. But of course, you’re happy for him. He got so much potential to waste if he stayed here for too long.
“You’re going too, right?” His gaze shifted into your eyes, as if expecting a reaction from you.
“I- I still think about that. I’m not sure, what I’m gonna do.” On the contrary, you know exactly what you will do. Your parents have already planned for your future, forcing you to continue their own business. You really hate being stuck with them even though you’re just turning into adult a few weeks ago.
“All.. done. I hope it won’t leave a scar.”
His words snap you back. Lowered your head, you felt ashamed that he always be by your side whenever you’re in difficult times. “Once again, thank you hwa. I wish I can return your favor.”
He smiled, tucked your loose hair behind your ears. “You don’t need too.” But then he paused for a second like there’s something clicking on his mind.
“Well actually, I’ll ask about that one day. So,” he touched your chin, “be prepared for that.”
You chuckled before slap his hand playfully, “Sure, I’ll get ready from now on.”
Both of you spent the rest of weeks together before he left. Starting from the graduation day, then talking about this and that in his room all night, and hanging out at the usual favorite places just like today. He really enjoyed your accompany, the way you dressed prettily, walking at the downtown side by side and seeing you smile at him sweetly. He’s struggling to keep the urge not to hold your empty hands that swing back and forth on your every steps. Hoping the time will pass slowly, so he won’t leave you too soon.
He decided to stop by the cafe, after spending a day looking for the things he needed with you. Sitting opposite each other at the same table, made him keep looking at your presence. He didn’t realize since when his feelings grew this big for you.
As soon as the order served, he noticed that you stirred the drink long enough, battling with your own self whether you should tell him about this matter or not.
He stopped your hand from doing it, “say, there’s something on your mind?”
His worried look breaking your defense, you took a deep breath before you tell him the truth. “I will get married”
If previously he wished for the time would pass slowly, but for now the time is completely stopped. Loud silence burst into his ear while his mind is going blank. “What?” Is the only word that left from his mouth.
“I eventually will get married, my parents told me to.” You clarified.
Right it’s always her parents, are they finally going crazy or something? She’s still young and what the fuck she’d accepted their ridiculous request gladly. He kept all of his thought, afraid of hurting you even more if he said it out loud. He clicked his tongue trying to suppress his anger. “Then, what was your exact motivation to agree with them just like that?”
“So I can get out of my house.” You took a quick glance at him, “and maybe I’ll love him as the time goes by.”
His eyes pierced through into yours that remaining unfazed. “Okay then good for you.” he’s leaning to the chair as if nothing happen, after he catch your slightly disappointment look towards his remark. He thought, there’s no point to carry on the conversation if it was your own will too.
Both of you were silent like there’s no suitable words needed to say. On the other hand, Seonghwa is still contemplating, blaming himself why he only could repair the damage but unable prevent it to happen. He’s totally mad, to the point taking his shopping bags roughly in one swoop.
“Let’s wrap it out for today, I’m tired.”
✧
On the day of his departure, you thought he’ll give you a warm hug or few words as farewell. Unfortunately, what you’ve imagined never happen. He only gave you a faint smile while sitting in his car, before rolled up the door glass and drove away. It was the beginning that you feel he’s distancing himself from you.
He still responded your texts in the first months, but over the time the intensity slowly decreased. Once he replied to your text no sooner than two weeks, only contained with a short reasoning, “sorry, been busy.” It must be rough in the first year of the college, so you tried to understand.
Until you send him one about your wedding day, telling him the place and the date of events. And a month passed, there’s no single replied come from him. Your anxiety skyrocketed in a week before the wedding day, you kept checking your phone waiting for his answer. To the point you’re hating yourself that you still need him just to calm yourself down. You felt empty, all the feelings of relieved thinking that you’ll be free just disappeared. It's enough, you definitely didn’t want this.
Few hours before the wedding started, you’ve done wearing your dress and make up. There’s no time left, you grabbed the necessary things as much as you can, then immediately stormed out of your house after you told your family that you need some time alone in your room.
You keep walking aimlessly with no thoughts, ignoring people gaze to the runaway bride. Didn’t even know how far you’ve gone and just realize the rain is pouring hard ever since. Your feet ache, blistered by the heels, you can’t drag yourself anymore due to how heavy your dress soaked in the rain.
You sat down on the side of road, the tears blending in with every raindrops fall onto you. What have I done? What if I rejected them since the beginning? And most importantly, What if I patiently wait for Seonghwa a little bit longer? The thoughts of losing him feared you the most. The pain is not only on the back of your feet, but now it’s spreading into your heart. It feels suffocated that you love him truly.
A pair of black leather shoes stopped in front of you, suddenly you didn't feel the rain hitting your body. You looked up and found Seonghwa holding an umbrella. His suit is drenched despite being under it. You proceed to stand on your feet, “You here.. you finally here.” The overwhelmed feeling is breaking you down, throwing out your weak fist on top of his chest, for several times. “Where have you been Hwa.. I need you, I- can’t do this”
He didn’t budge at all still covering you from the rain. Letting you to vent out all of your burden. He brought the palm of his hands towards your cheek, caressing it gently before pulled you into the kiss. He missed you so bad, until you could feel his warm tears rolling down touched your skin. He pulled out from the kiss, pressing his forehead to yours.
His reddening eyes staring deep down into your own, he sighed before closing his eyes. “First, I’m such a coward. I can’t stand you with someone else. I’m so sorry for acting so childish.” He letting out the same frustrations as you feel. Then he open his eyes, continuing his words, “I’ve always love you, from the beginning till now”
Putting your hands to the back of his neck, you pulled him closer, returning the kiss. Pouring out all of your feelings into it, hoping he’ll catch that you feel the same. I do, I love you too Park Seonghwa.
✧
Warm. That’s what you feel right now. He’s behind you, wiped your back with lukewarm water after peeled off your soaked dress. Placing kisses on the side of your neck, down to your shoulder. While his another hand teasing your clit. You can’t keep your legs still due to tingling sensation on your core, splashing the water all over the floor.
It’s more than half an hour he continued to tease you in the bathtub, causing you to reach the orgasm over and over. You hold his hand, hoping he’ll stop. But it only made him flicked his fingers even faster. “Hwa.. enough..” You’ve said this for who knows how many times it is.
Pressing his lips to your ears, he letting out his honey voice softly, “Hm.. not yet.” He tugged your earlobe between his teeth, before pushing his fingers deeper into you. You gasped as it spread open your inside, then it curled up hitting your spot. Your body shaking violently, gripping on the side of the tub as you riding down the orgasm.
“You’re so beautiful, you know that?” He showers you compliments every time you came undone, while kissing the back of your neck.
He decided to carry you into his arms, then lay you down on the bed slowly, starting to kiss your forehead, down to your eyes, then to your pretty lips gently as if it’s too fragile. His hand roaming around to tease your nipple by pinching it a little.
Then he’s going down, holding your thigh open while his tongue busy exploring your slicked fold. Licking it up and down, devouring the spilled juice. He looked up, eyes fixed to your face, anticipating for every expression you made. He’ll suck hard on your clit, only to make you moaning his name in pleasure.
After being satisfied with it, he sit on his knee right under you. Stroking his hard member for few times till throwing his head back as he drowning in sensation. Your inside is twitching, looking at the way his cock throbbing hard between his fingers plus those scrumptious jaw of his.
Your fingertips brushed to his knee, begging for his attention. “Seonghwa..” He turned back to you, giving you a mischievous look “Hmm?”
“Please..” Squirming your legs, you trying to scoot over him desperately. Only wanting his tip slightly to touch your swollen cunt.
He moved back a little, “Say it clearly, I don’t get what you really want.”
“I want your dick inside of me, please.”
He immediately put it into you. Bringing his hand to intertwined with yours as soon as he saw you flinched cause of the first thrust. After you feel comfortable enough, he started moving his hips in steady pace.
He kept the eye contact while pressing the forehead against each other, occasionally planting soft kisses all over your face. You could feel he’s pulsing inside of you, gradually thrusting his hard member even faster. The feelings become unbearable, as he pushed your lower stomach with one hand while the other one gripping onto your waist to keep it stay still.
You moan out incoherent mess, reaching for your own climax. Can’t control your shuddering body as you feel his hot seeds filled you up, shooting all his load inside. He’s grinding for a few times, before pulled it out, causing his cum leaked, dripping down from your pussy. He scoop it out with his index finger then pushing it back in. “Would be a shame if it’s going wasted, right?” Throwing out rhetorical question, while bringing his finger towards your mouth to let you know how he taste like.
Now you snuggle up with him, placing your head on his chest. You can feel his heart beating rapidly, makes you think it’s your own. His fingers played with your hair, caressing it or twirling it around delicately. The two of you, spending the time together in this warm hotel room while the rainstorm outside never stopped. Suddenly his voice breaking the silence, “So, I want you to return my favor.”
You looked up to him, “Tell me how?”
He swept your hair to the side then placing a kiss on top of your head. “Will you spend the rest of your life with me?”
Your tears fall in instant, still can’t believe the feelings are mutual. You know he always there, he always save you, and you always love him from the deepest of your heart. You nodded,
“Yes, I will.”

tell me about Amboy, Washington
Amboy is a little town I grew up in (ages 11 to 21) that's northeast of Battle Ground, Washington-- which I'd consider the "downtown" part of where I lived, being only a 25 minute car ride down the mountain and through the forest, with all the modern luxuries a major metropolitan area might have like a wal-mart and a 7-eleven. i believe the population of Amboy is still under 2000, and the population of Battle Ground is something like 20,000.
my favorite spots in/around town were the Amboy Market because that's where food comes from if not from your neighbors livestock, Nick's Bar and Grill because it was the first restaurant i ever became a "regular" at after i started being recognized by the staff, and the Fargher Lake gas station because it sits on the edge of a small, but pretty valley i'd always drive past an any trip to school/work/church/into town. there's also the Cedar Creek grist mill which sells unbelievable apple cider every fall, though you gotta get there early because the lines end up being long.
(pictures in order: "welcome to Amboy" sign, the valley down the hill behind the Fargher Lake store, and the Grist Mill)

Rindou x reader W.Count: 1058 Genre: Angst to Fluff, reader has family problems, incredibly self-indulgent
Tumblr media
Rindou didn't know what to expect when you called him. Truth be told you had disappeared on him and he was growing a bit worried. So when he answered the phone and heard you sniffing, he abandoned everything to run to your side as fast as he could.
The moment you saw his car make the turn and enter your street, you ran towards it. You knew that disappearing wasn't healthy, but so far it was a coping mechanism that had been working for you. Sadly the amount of times that Rindou had reassured you that it was ok to talk to him when you needed someone, assuring you that you were not a burden, seem to had fallen on deaf ears once more. But he couldn't be angry with you. You may had been putting on a strong front most of the time, seeming almost unapproachable, but he knew that deep down there was a gentle soul, that longed to be cared for. And he vowed to himself to be there for you.  So seeing the tears that were running down your face pained him dearly.
The moment you sat yourself into the passenger seat, Rindou pulled you in a hug. A hug you realized you needed more than anything at that moment.
"I am here for you, darling. I am here" he comforted, while running his hands up and down your back to sooth your nerves. "Let it out sweetheart" he said as he kissed your temple, encouraging and letting you process the emotions you were feeling. It took a while, but once you seemed to have finally relaxed a bit, you retracted from him with a shy yet grateful smile, which Rindou made sure to reciprocate. He momentarily broke the eye contact to retrieve a blanket, he had brought with him, from the back seat, throwing it around you, trying to make you feel as comfortable as one could in such a cramped space.
"Want to talk about it?...I am not going to force you, but I am here for you, you know that" he spoke calmly, without a hint of judgment in his voice or tone.
"I...Thank you, Rin... I, I guess I have been feeling overwhelmed? My family has been pressuring me in every area of my life and it is getting a bit much. I feel like I am suffocating" you confessed feeling a new set of tears. Rindou knew of how your family was; and he hated it.  He hated how they always kept asking for more and more, draining your energy and motivation. You had to be perfect at school, perfect at social interactions, perfect, perfect, perfect.  Nothing was good enough for them.
"And the control...the micromanaging...sometimes it feels like I am not even an actual human being, that I am just a robot made to cater to their needs" you chuckled bitterly.
Rindou didn't know what to say...he knew that whatever he could or would say could only be words of encouragement.  And such words mattered of course they did. He just wished he could do something to actually help you, other than just listening to you.
"Wanna go for a drive, pretty? And get some comfort food? Or go to the beach?" he inquired. A night away might be of help, he thought. And you smiled, like you always did.  "You are an angel,  you know that Rinnie? A knight in shinning armor"
"Only for you, milady" he said and sealed it off with a wink, starting the car.
You soon found yourselves in the drive through of your favourite fast food places with Rindou rolling down the window to order for the both of you.
"...and a kid's meal, please...Yes, thank you" and that cracked you up. A kid's meal? At your age? Rindou looked at you defensively
"You know you want it! I even told the cashier to put the toy in there" and you laughed. He was honestly so precious.
"I love you so much Rinnie.  I appreciate having you in my life so so much" you said solemnly while playing with his hair a bit. Rindou was your safe space amidst a sea of chaos and uncertainty, he was your solid land.
Once the goods were retrieved, Rindou drove the two of you up the hill and parked at a spot that overlooked the city. The stars above you shining, reminding you of how fleeting life's problems can be.
The two of you sat quietly for a few minutes, taking in the view and basking in each other's presence. It felt serene, calm...rejuvenating.
You were the first one to make a move to grab the food, and you truly felt grateful
"Thank you Rinnie.  I know i probably said it many times already, but thank you"
"You're welcome, baby. I'll always be there for you, no matter what. Don't let the problems of others affect your life or define your worth. You're priceless to me...now c'mon...open that meal, i wanna see what toy they gave us" you snickered at that. Of course he did. So you complied making quick work of the box and pulling out a small plush toy.
"It's Cinammoroll!!!"
"Bleh...too soft" he teased and you both burst out laughing.
"What, I thought you liked soft things?" you said with a fake hurt voice. Rindou hummed and reached for your cheek.
"Well, I do like SOME soft things" he said and pinched your cheek hard. You made a sound of genuine hurt and before you could say anything, he moved his head to kiss the spot he pinched.
"Are you feeling better sweet angel?” he asked once he had retreated back to his seat.
“Mmm, yeah...Thanks to you” you smiled at him as you reached towards the rear-view mirror hanging the Cinammoroll plush there. “A small present” you joked a bit. You knew how Rindou would react.
“There’s no way that stays there!” and reached to remove it, but you slapped his hand away.
“Noooooo, it’s cute!!!!” you laughed
“But-”
“No buts!” you laughed not having any of his arguments.
In the end, it was moments like these that life felt good and worth living. The night breeze gently rustling through the car, you and Rindou sharing food with each other, knowing that you had found solid land in each other.

a/n: thank you for all of the love! this takes place at the beginning of season 3, but there's some weird things i chose to do. they're in lacrosse season and cross country at the same time to stay relevant to both mine and the show's plot. also, the season only takes place over like three months, so it's gonna seem fast, though that's how it canonically goes. much love, friends!
trigger warning: this is the motel California episode, so a brief mention of unaliving.

“can we please play some real music?”
y/n glanced up from her phone, open on the texts between her and danny, to see megan reaching through the front seats, towards the radio. y/n snickered slightly as the drake song switched to a pop station.
leo huffed from the driver’s seat, “baby, we’ve talked about this! driver picks the music!”
“baby,” megan mocked with a silly expression, “i don’t care. i’m not listening to just drake songs for another 5 hours.”
y/n hummed in agreement, “girls rule, boys drool.”
jack scoffed from the passenger seat, “you’re never gonna win that fight, leo.”
megan looked towards her with proud defiance, and offered up her palm for a high five. y/n gave her one, before looking back down to her phone. danny had sent another message.
danny: idk this lower classman looks like he’s about to get hella sick and stiles keep bugging him
y/n: so do you think the bus is gonna stop??? i have to pee soooo badly
danny: lemme ask coach
danny: oh stiles is already asking coach hang on
danny: coach says no
danny: it’s ok if u guys aren’t directly behind us
y/n: no it’s not just that i just don’t wanna be a bother to anybody by having to stop the car. plus leo’s already gonna be in trouble for missing the bus lol
danny: ugh whatever
danny: o fuck lower class man just fucking project uke vomited
danny: see u in a sec lover 😝❤️
the big yellow bus donned with the beacon hills school name across the side of it pulled bumpily into a motel parking lot. the inhabitants cringed from both the poor driving and the lingering smell of puke. unlike the rest of them, stiles sat proudly, with an all-too pleased smile on his expression.
y/n bounced in her seat slightly as leo pulled the car into a parking spot. she peered around in an attempt to find a bathroom area. she would’ve used the bathroom back at the rest stop, but leo thought it would be smart to get ahead of the bus.
now, it looked like they’d all be trapped in some motel that looked straight out of that psycho movie.
megan tapped her shoulder and pointed towards the front office. “let’s go ask the lady in there.”
leo had missed the bus for the cross country meet this morning, and since y/n, jack, and megan were already planning on coming out to support him, they carpooled together. they didn’t always make it out to meets, especially not ones hours from home, but they each had free weekends, and thought it would be fun to tag along.
y/n and megan went off to the bathroom, while leo and jack joined the hoard of students. danny, having just collected the key to his room, spotted two of his friends. they waved him over, and danny happily jogged their way.
stiles glanced over at danny as he went. he recognized jack and leo and peered around for megan, maybe even y/n. she hadnt responded to his text, the one he sent on tuesday, the day after their encounter in the jeep. he apologized for rushing out of there so quickly. but she hadn’t even read it.
scott said something, drawing stiles attention away. they went off to find their room, lydia and allison, isaac and boyd, closely behind them. just as they found the external stairs, y/n and megan came trotting out of the front office.
danny saw his best friend over jack’s shoulder and lit up. “oh, my love!”
y/n grinned and jumped up on the toes of her shoes. “hello, handsome!” she hugged him.
“listen,” leo cut into their moment, pointing over to coach finstock. “i’m gonna go see if coach will get us a room, since i’m supposed to be on that bus anyways.”
megan latched onto his hand, “i’ll come with!”
danny, y/n, and jack waved after them. y/n sighed, and glanced around the crowd of students, who were breaking off into groups. danny followed her gaze and snorted with a smirk.
“what?” she glanced up at him.
“he just went to find his room,” danny pointed towards the stairs behind them. “wanna go say hi?”
y/n waved him off, quickly, antsy on her feet, “no, no. that’s not what we agreed on, remember? i am staying away.”
danny nodded his head, slow, as if he didn’t really believe her. “we’ll see how long that lasts.”
y/n scoffed and punched his shoulder. “i mean it, you ass. mindless sex is the last thing i need right now.”
jack looked up from his phone, “who’s having mindless sex?”
y/n waved him off, “literally nobody.”
“i think you should,” jack shrugged, looking back down at his phone.
she crossed her arms and popped a hip, “excuse me?”
jack glanced back up, “i’m just saying. you spent how long moping over sam. best way to get over someone is to get under somebody else.”
at the mention of sam, y/n usually felt her chest constrict slightly. it happened this time, too, like the trigger of his name blew out all her defenses. but, she recovered quickly.
that had been happening a lot more lately- recovery. he didn’t have as much a hold on her anymore.
danny snickered at jack’s words, “oh, you have no idea-“
y/n shoved danny harshly. “would you two shut the fuck up? my sex life is not public business.”
“of lack, thereof,” jack mumbled to himself.
y/n went to clap back, when megan and leo showed back up with a singular room key. leo held it up between his fingers, and wiggled it, “could only get one, but- room 216.”
“thank god,” jack took the key from leo, “i could use a shower.”
he led the way to the stairs, and megan and leo followed closely behind. y/n started after them, but faltered her steps once she realized. megan would want to sleep with leo, leaving the only other open bed in jack’s name. he’d say it’s not big deal, that they could sleep in the same bed no problem. but, even though they’d been in the same friend group for a few years now, she didn’t trust him all that much.
she turned back to danny, “please, please, please let me stay in your room with you-?”
danny looked down at her, shoulders dropping as he noticed her eyes turn up in a sappy, puppy-dog manner. he rolled his eyes, “of course you can, you don’t have to make that pathetic face. i’m rooming with ethan, but he doesn’t care. let’s go.”
danny called over the new kid and explained the rooming situation to him. he was completely okay with it, and introduced himself to y/n formally. she’d seen him around and heard about him, but this was the first she’d spoken to him. he was friendly enough.
y/n followed danny and ethan up the stairs. they ran into megan, jack, and leo and passed on the rooming news to them. then, just as they began moving along, the door beside them popped open. scott and stiles piled out.
y/n, frivolous and non-confrontational, did a two-step around ethan, slotting herself beside danny and the railing. stiles didn’t pay enough attention to anything, but he smelled her shampoo linger through the air. stiles looked over just quick enough to watch her disappear into the room beside his and scott’s.
this was going to be a long night.
luckily, danny had an extra pair of boxers for y/n to wear as makeshift pajama bottoms. the two boys, sweaty and tired from the bus ride in, took turns showering, while y/n scrolled mindlessly through the television. afterwards, ethan and danny made themselves comfy on the other bed. they were in a similar situation as y/n and stiles- sleeping together, with the agreement that feelings wouldn’t get involved. tale as old as time.
“man, i wish we had snacks. i’m starving,” danny pointed out as he pulled the covers over his legs. ethan sat a few feet from his left shoulder, as if they were trying to keep distance between them.
but, y/n wasn’t stupid- she recognized the tension between them. she knew it all too well. she knew danny wanted to hold ethan’s hand, knew ethan’s darting eyes lingered on danny’s lips- more than once. while ethan started their movie, she came up with the idea to give them a few moments alone. she’d read enough romance books to know the trope- one of them would break eventually.
“i saw a vending machine,” y/n recalled, sitting up in the bed, “i’ll go grab some stuff.”
she collected her purse from the floor and the room key from danny’s bedside table, before her friend could protest. she passed danny a knowing look as she slipped out the door. she wriggled her eyebrows in delight. danny rolled his eyes, though he was blushing, and the tiniest smile cracked his lips.
y/n’s tennis shoes creaked against the floor of the balcony. the motel was obviously old, with rusted corners. it had the faint smells of dust bunnies and moth balls whipping through the air. the sun had set since the start of their movie, and it made the already creepy setting a little more chilling. it was comforting that she saw a few of her classmates, moving between rooms, hanging out on the balcony. but, even though there were plenty of people, the motel had a way of making her feel felt deserted, distant from the rest of the world.
she turned the corner and finally saw the vending machine, tucked into the corner with the ice. she spent a few minutes picking out a few different things, and even managed to stretch out the time by popping open a bag of m&m’s. she checked her phone and saw that ten minutes had finally passed. y/n felt she could return now. if they hadn’t confessed their love for each other, hopefully they’d at least kissed or something.
y/n slid the key into the door handle, hitting it loudly against the metal in order to make danny and ethan aware of her return. she slowly, surely, opened the door. much to her surprise- and delight- she was met with the sight of way too much bare ass skin.
y/n slammed the door closed, eyes squeezed shut, a little scarred from whoever’s ass she had just seen. shuffling could be heard from the other side of the door, and she assumed danny and ethan were sorting themselves out. but, she felt bad, cockblocking them, so she called out, “hey, don’t even worry about it. i’m gonna go ask lydia if she has makeup wipes. you two…have loads of fun!”
y/n huffed out a breath. her hand fell off the door knob, and she looked around. lydia was just two doors down. she remembered seeing the redhead with allison, when they went inside their room earlier. but, she couldn’t remember if it was the door right next to theirs, or the one after it.
she wasn’t really sure.
all she did know was that stiles and scott were behind one of those two doors. and with her luck…
y/n opted for just sitting on one of the chairs in front of danny’s room. she pulled up a book on her phone. danny would text her, or even come and find her, once he was done doing whatever it is he was doing.
it was taking all her willpower to ignore stiles. the fact that she even missed him as much as she did was a red flag on the entire situation. she tried to convince herself that she didn’t miss him, but his lips, his words, his ability to draw out of her a feeling she’d never really known.
but thinking like that made it worse.
y/n occupied her mind with a few pages in her book. but, as she turned another chapter, she heard a a couple pairs of feet scuttle up the stairs. two voices she recognized were speaking in hushed whispers, anxiety setting their tones. y/n looked up from her phone, flushing a little when she saw stiles’ face in the dim light of the motel balcony. they were coming her way.
she tucked her chin into her chest, eyes glued to her phone, hoping they wouldn’t be paying enough attention to notice her. her chest was tight. she felt tingly.
that luck of hers…
“y/n? hey, hey, what’re you doing here?” stiles pushed past scott, squatting to his knees before her. his hand came to rest on her knee, his touch soft and warm.
y/n didn’t realize how cold she was, in just her tank top that she wore and the boxer’s she borrowed from danny. she shivered, brows drawing together in concern. “what?”
stiles sounded worried, a little scared, like there was something really wrong. his eyes fluttered around her, over his shoulder towards scott. the latter boy’s hair was wet, and y/n glanced out to the parking lot to see if it was raining. the wind whipped towards them, and the smell of gasoline prickled her nose. she looked back at scott, tilting her head. was he covered in gasoline?
stiles squeezed her knee, “what room are you in? you need to get inside, here, cmon.” he grabbed onto her hand, entwined his fingers with hers like it was habitual. pulled her to her feet.
“what’re you talking about?” y/n furrowed her brows, squeezing onto his hand.
scott spoke this time, “it’s, uh- we saw an animal or something weird in the parking lot. like, a mountain lion or-“ he exchanged a confused look with stiles, like neither were sure of his testimony, “or something.”
y/n shivered, again, fear from all of the animal attacks that plagued beacon hills settling on her skin in the form of goosebumps. stiles noticed and he quickly shrugged his coat off. he slid it around her easily, “what room are you in?”
“d-danny’s,” she stepped closer to him, grabbed his hand again. she pointed to the room in front of them. “we need to tell coach. what if it-“
“danny and ethan’s?” stiles clarified as he cut her off. she nodded, words falling from her lips.
scott and stiles shared a look, and the latter boy shook his head. “why don’t you come hang out with us for a bit? we can watch a movie or something?” scott offered.
y/n shrugged, “i guess. i’ll text danny and let him know. hey, we should really-“
“it’s okay,” stiles led her into their room, and scott followed.
she slipped out of her shoes and sat, warily, on the edge of one of their beds. stiles peeked out through the blinds, on guard from whatever was out there. y/n felt there was more to the situation than either of them was going to let on. being in such close corners with scott now- the gasoline was so thick in the air. but, the mountain lion story alone was enough to freak her out.
and, she didn’t know if she needed or even wanted to know anything more. weird things always seemed to happen in this town. she didn’t need a reason to have a panic attack.
scott got a text. he quickly pulled out his phone. the abrupt end of the silence lingering in the room made y/n jump slightly.
stiles reared his head towards his friend, “what? what is it?”
scott’s eyes glanced over to y/n, who was staring blankly at the floor. her knee bounced up and down, and she hugged her arms around herself. “um,” scott was coming up with an excuse, “i’m just gonna go check on allison and lydia.”
he opened the door to leave, and y/n shot up from the bed. “be careful! you really should go tell coach, too.”
scott nodded, “yeah, sure.” he slipped out of the room.
stiles turned to y/n, fidgeting with his hands. he stepped towards her, concern laced in his tired eyes, “hey, you okay?”
y/n always noticed how tired he always was. but, tonight, it seemed he was more so.
she stepped a little closer to him, examining his gaze intently, “i’m fine. just a little- a little freaked out. the animal attacks in this town are no joke.”
“yeah, tell me about it,” stiles mumbled. he was shaken up from the events taking place this evening- his friends possessed by some deadly energy, scott’s near suicide. but, he forced on a strong front. y/n needed his comfort and security, no matter how many texts from him she hadn’t answered.
y/n watched his stare fall to the floor, and he faded out a little. she touched his forearm, grounding him back to earth. he met her eye. she frowned, “are you okay?”
“yeah, yeah,” he waved her off, “just…tired, ya know. long day.”
“why don’t you lay down?” y/n offered. she tightened her grip on his arm, moving it up to his elbow.
his breath hitched. he missed her touch like water. , now it was flooding him.
he nodded and stepped towards the bed. “will you- lay with me?” he thought over his own words, and quickly tried to make it seem less romantic, “in, like, a not weird way? i don’t know- nevermind.”
“yeah, stiles,” y/n brushed his words off, “i can lay with you. in a not weird way. friends can…friends can cuddle.”
he ignored the way that word stabbed his chest, and led them to the bed. stiles slid off his shoes, pushed back the covers, and fell into the bed. he lay on his back and held open his arm for her. she slotted herself into his side.
it was warm. comfortable.
both of them fell asleep within minutes.
a week passed, and neither of them mentioned that night.
they didn’t talk about it when they had sex in the stiles’ jeep, after the meet. they didn’t talk about it the next day at her house, when they had sex, again. or, any of the three other times they had sex.
they didn’t talk about the fact that neither of them had slept that well in months. they didn’t talk about the fact that y/n clutched onto stiles’ like he’d leave with one wrong breath.
and they especially didn’t talk about the fact that stiles kissed y/n’s forehead before he drifted off.
and told her, “thank you.”
y/n didn’t want to tell danny. so, she didn’t.
but, he knew her better than anybody, so he caught onto the fact that she had, at the very least, been sleeping with stiles ago.
according to danny, she had a, “glow about her.”
y/n shoved his shoulder, hitting her palm off of his uniform pads. she hissed at the pain and held her wrist limply in her other hand.
“that’s what you get for being a whore,” danny joked, poking her side.
she winced at the touch. “ouch! you’re a dick.”
“you’re gonna turn into one!” danny turned back to his locker, rummaging around for the rest of his gear.
y/n crossed her arms over her chest. she was wearing danny’s jersey again for the game. “and what about it?”
“nothing! there’s literally nothing wrong with it,” danny shrugged. he pulled his glove from the top of his locker and turned around, pointing it at her. “i just know you.”
y/n knew what that meant. she knew why danny was concerned. she knew herself, too. she knew how these things ended.
but she was choosing not to care.
“whatever,” she pushed the glove away from her face, “just- good luck on your game, asshole.”
she gave danny a tight hug before heading towards the exit. there were a few other players still in there, getting dressed, chatting about the plays for the game.
she spotted stiles at his locker. he met her eye and grinned. a blush adorned her cheeks. she waved.
y/n was about to open the door when stiles came bounding up behind her. he held it open for her, leaning over to do so, and his face ended up right beside hers.
“hey,” he sounded breathless.
y/n smiled, “how are you?”
they hadn’t seen each other since wednesday. y/n had a few projects for school, and work, so her schedule was jam packed. stiles missed her like crazy, but of course, he couldn’t really say that.
“good,” he nodded.
they moved out into the hallway as they spoke. the door fell shut behind them.
“listen,” stiles went to say, as y/n said, “sorry.”
“go ahead,” they spoke over each other.
“sorry,” y/n laughed. she brushed hair back from her face.
stiles’ drew his eyes over her skin, which was painted with white and red dots around her eyes. “your makeup looks pretty,” he found himself saying.
y/n touched her cheek, insecurely, “oh, thank you.”
stiles, caught up in the moment, gently pulled her hand from her face. he dropped it to her side and then moved his touch to her chin. he drew her eyes to his, arching her face upwards. y/n’s breath caught in her throat.
“what do i get if i win?” stiles found himself saying, a devilish grin on his face.
y/n was astounded by how good stiles had gotten at all this- the foreplay, the teasing, the things he’d say to her. he was an insecure, neurotic, freak most of the time. but, beneath the sheets, he’d learned control, confidence, power. it inspired security within her, positive self consciousness in her body, her movement.
and, though this made her face beat red, she smiled slightly. y/n wrapped her arms around his shoulders, entangling her fingers in his hair, and she pressed her lips into his. stiles nearly melted at her touch, curving his body into hers. y/n felt his dick harden against her thigh. she held back a grin.
and she pulled away.
“you’ve gotta win first,” she shrugged, pretending she was innocent to everything.
she began walking away, proud. stiles groaned in response and watched her hips, intently.
“you are such a tease!” she shrugged again, not even glancing back. not until he called out, “hey!”
she looked back at him, “what?”
“you look cute in that jersey, by the way.”
he winked at her before disappearing inside the locker room.
y/n faltered slightly. the moment sunk into her skin.
oh, no.

Ruben Dias x Reader - The Birthday Gift
This fic was requested by one of my lovely wattpad readers for her birthday on July 14th. Happy birthday to her!!🥳
Tumblr media
Enjoy!
How sad it was having to work on your birthday. Luckily your boyfriend, Ruben, came to pick you up once your shift ended.
"So what do you want to do?" He asked. You had already celbreated a little bit before you left for work this morning. Ruben made you breakfast in bed this and let you open his present, a charm braclet with a golden key as it's first charm.
"Well they made me this at worked." You showed him the bag of pastries you got from your colleagues. They made a wide selection of pastries for you to enjoy on your birthday. "Maybe we could find a nice place to enjoy them, just the two of us?"
"Sure. I know a place we can go."
You weren't too keen on parties where you were supposed to be the center of attention. Ruben was the same. He enjoyed peace and quiet and you two often spend your days together snuggled up on the couch, watching a marathon of movies. It wasn't much, but it was how you liked it. Just you and Ruben, in your own little bubble.
"What's this place?"
He had driven a bit outside of the city, to a little town with a big lake in the middle of it.
"I come here sometimes to relax." He said, parking the car on a hill that overlooked the small houses and the lake that sparkled in the sun.
"Hmm. A bit random don't you think?" You brought out the bag of pastries and picked the one you wanted to eat first. Ruben was a bit more hesitant, perhaps not wanting to make such a mess in his car.
"You don't like it?"
"The view?"
"No, the town." He said, with a strange look on his face.
"I dunno? What so special about it?"
To you it looked like a typical english town with houses covered in red tile rooftops, a town center, a local school and plenty of green agriculture surrounding the area.
"I thought it'd be a great place to live someday."
"You want to live here?" You chuckled.
"Yeah, what's so funny about that?" He sounded a bit offended by your reaction.
"Nothing baby, but you of all people rather live here than in Manchester or Portugal of all places?"
"Yes. It's a great place for us to live. It's close to Manchester and..."
"Us?" You stopped him there, unsure if you heard him right.
Ruben looked to bite his tongue.
"You said us, right? Or was I mistaken?"
He turned to you with a serious expression on his face.
"Ruben, what's the matter?"
His eyes searched your face, perhaps unsure if he should tell you or not.
"Ruben please, you're kind of freaking me out." You chuckled.
"Promise not to do that."
"Do what?" You had to tilt your head as his eyes had diverged from yours. "Ruben please tell me what's going on?" You had never seen him like this, so anxious and easily agitated.
"What I'm about to show you..." He said. "Just promise me that you won't freak out."
"I won't. I promise."
He sighed and turned the keys to start the car. You were off for a silent drive through the little town, not stopping until you arrived at a small community of houses.
"We have to walk from here." He said, silencing the engine, unbuckling his belt. You did the same and followed him.
He held your hand leading you through the lovely neighborhood with a beautiful set up of houses. However there was this particular house that still looked like it was under construction. To your surprise Ruben stopped just in front of that one, searching his pocket for a key which he handed to you.
"Happy Birthday." He said, but not with as much energy as this morning.
"You bought me a house?"
"Yes. I bought you a house." He said, stuffing his hands in his pockets.
"Ruben, but why?" You turned to look at him, unsure of what to say. You had so not expected this.
"I dunno." He shrugged. "Because I love you."
You leap forwards, hugging him. "I love you too, but I could never afford to buy you a house. It's too much Ruben." Tears had begun to flow, but mostly because anyone surprising you with such a gift would make you emotional.
"Do you want to take a look inside?" Ruben looked down on you, smiling.
You perked up to kiss his lips. "Yes, let's go inside."
It was a castle compared to any place you've lived in before. There was a giant porch with an equally giant backyard. Ruben even showed you a blueprint of the plans to build a pool out there.
"Ruben, this house is too big for just the two of us." This is what he had meant by "us." The house would be a home for the two of you to share.
"I know." He said. "But by the time the house is done maybe it won't be just the two of us anymore?"
You froze, a ray of butterflies entering your stomach. "You mean...?"
Ruben shrugged. You two stood in the middle of what would be the living room and it was almost impossible not to imagine little feet running across the wooden floors, making a mess of things as children often did.
"You want to have children with me?" You failed to hold in another flood of tears. Ruben closed the distance between you, grabbing your hand and kneeling down before you. "It would be your choice of course. Just like it is my choice to ask you to marry me."
"Ruben."
You watched him pull out the little black jewelry box out of his back pocket. He pulled the diamond ring out of the box, ready to dress it on your finger, but first he needed to hear the words that would allow him to do so.
You nodded your head and weeped. "Yes Ruben. Of course I will marry you!"
He put the ring on your finger, rose to his feet and picked you up, twirling you around in his arms. Your eyes were filled with tears and it felt like you could go on crying forever. He set your feet back down to look at you. "I love you." He said, in the same way he always did, but this time it was like he spoke directly to your heart, your heart that belonged to him now.
"I love you too." You cried. "...and this gift, the best birthday gift I could have ever received."

More drabbles on the Chilaios ems au. (please see Psiroller's beautiful Stop Smoking, We Love You!)
Takes place after Chilchuck's bad call and talk with Laios.
Rating: M for content, nothing spicy yet
contains non-graphic discussions of pregnancy complications, death of children, cancer; backstory things
----------
When Chilchuck returns to the station after his long weekend and hike with Laios, the sense of dread he had about losing his job has abated, but his guilt over the meeting and anxiety of how his coworkers might react still lingers. He puts his uniform next to his bunk and hovers in the room as he builds up energy to go back into the main areas.
As he steps back into the living room, the whole crew is piled in front of the TV watching some show; no chairs available for him to join in quietly. His palms sweat as all eyes turn on him, leaving him at the mercy of the jury of his peers. Trapped by his employment contract to interact with the men he hasn't spoken to in days after rolling his eyes and scoffing at them for debriefing a call.
Plenty of reason to cause a scene in a lull between the action.
Laios gives a smile from the far seat on the sofa, looking up from his work phone. Someone else speaks to Chilchuck before Laios can open his mouth.
"I saved you the best seat in the house." Isaiah remarks and pats his lap, making no move to shift. Chilchuck can see Laios tense as he tries to decide if he needs to intervene. But this is something he can handle himself.
He saunters over and drops into his lap, shifting a little until he is comfortable. "Thanks, sweetheart." He winks and the other guys jeer at the two of them. He stretches out, and drops his feet onto Dan and head onto Laios. "You really know how to make a guy feel at home, please don't let me interrupt your show."
Dan snickers and grabs his legs to make sure Chilchuck doesn't fall off. He can see Laios covering his mouth with his hand as his chest shakes and he looks away from the rest of the room. Isaiah plays along, "Anything for you, gorgeous." And he pats his stomach before settling back into his seat. The tension that was in the room before has dissipated and the lull returns as they continue to watch King of the Hill. Chilchuck turns his head to see and his hair flops into his face. Laios tucks it away before he can do anything about it.
They make eye contact before Laios has to look away, grin still trying to get onto his face, not that Chilchuck is any better at this point.
Almost at the end of the program, the radio goes off. "Dispatch to Station 9, house fire at address 589 South Pierre Creek Road. Sounds like a backyard barbeque getting out of hand, and the neighbors want it checked out. No injuries reported."
Dan sighs and keys up his radio, "Station 9 to Dispatch, we copy your call for address 589 South Pierre Creek, we will notify you when we are en route."
Chilchuck lifts his legs vertically to let him get up, and Isaiah uses them as a handle to tip him further back and stand up himself. "Sorry gorgeous, but I need to drive the engine."
Chilchuck flops back onto the couch. "Listen, I do more medical only calls than you, I'm doing my job here!"
It gets a few chortles as they leave to gear up. A few minutes later, Isaiah get on the radio as the sirens start and fade into the distance.
It's only him, Senshi, and Laios still in the room after they are gone. Chilchuck looks up at Laios, still not moving from his position laying in his lap. "Hey. Can I talk to you about something?"
Laios looks down at him. "Sure. Do you want to go to the office?"
Chilchuck shakes his head. "Nah, it's not related to this job. It's something someone told me might be good for me to talk about." He shuts his eyes.
"Back when I first started, I was thinkin' about being an EMT for a couple of years before going to paramedic school."
"But then…is this about you not driving?"
"Shut up. Yeah." Chilchuck chuckles. "My work partner and I had a deal, she wanted to keep going with the EMT driving stuff and I had already crashed the truck twice-- never with a patient in the back, stupid shit like backing into a pylon and getting stuck over the curb. I got banished to the passenger's seat, but it worked for us. Gave me practice doing patient care, writing reports, all that shit."
His brows furrow. "I had only just started working when my wife told me she was pregnant, and we got married. We found out we were having twins and I saved all my PTO, all my sick time, talked about taking a leave of absence with my chief, all that stuff. We had a c-section scheduled for 37 weeks, which is pretty good for twins. Pregnancy was rough for her, and it was tough-- it was a high-risk pregnancy, and they were keeping an eye on their size the whole time."
He waves his hand. "There was something called twin-to-twin transfusion that we kept worrying about. Their placentas were too close, and they started getting connected." He meshes his hands together as an example. "The doc hadn't ever seen it like that before, it's only supposed to happen with identical twins who share the same one. Mei was getting bigger than Fler and the docs kept saying it was just something we had to keep an eye on, something we had to watch, come back in two weeks, my schedule isn't available then, Chil can you take a couple hours off to come with me?"
He sighs.
"I was doin' all sorts of overtime with my partner, offering to stay late a couple extra hours to make up for it. And I had other guys who I went through orientation with who were willing to let me ride along without having to do too much driving. We did nights as first on scene emergency BLS, transported if it was BLS appropriate, waited for the paramedic otherwise."
"We were at 29 weeks with the girls, a month and a half out from being a new dad, when we got a call for active labor in our zone. Dispatch asked me if I wanted off the call, because of my wife, and I said are you fuckin' crazy? This is practice for the real deal, send me in."
The room is quiet. Chilchuck speaks again. "We got on scene, and baby was already on his way out. They had been going for a water birth with a midwife, who called us. We had backup coming, but I radioed that in--if the midwife is calling, that means something went wrong."
Laios brushes his fingers through his hair. "They hadn't cut the cord yet, but he was going blue and wasn't crying. I am the medical guy, so I was the one who suctioned his nose and mouth, turned him upside down and slapped him on the back trying to get him to breathe. Then we bagged him, on oxygen, notified dispatch and the medical director. She said to transport. We were less than ten minutes from the nearest women's hospital and waiting for the paramedic wasn't going to make a difference."
He can't speak and Laios says nothing, continuing to pet his hair. Chilchuck opens his eyes. "I was doin' everything they taught us in school, the stuff we always joked would never happen, two finger CPR and pediatric AED and everything. I didn't know if I did something wrong or not. But I lost pulses quick, and the hospital couldn't get them back."
Laios lets him go quiet. "I'm so sorry."
Chilchuck shakes his head. "Don't be. You didn't even know me."
"No, I mean I wish you didn't have to go through that. I'm feel sad for you."
Chilchuck huffs a laugh. "Thanks."
He exhales, relaxing into Laios. "They had another call while we had a smoke outside the hospital, and asked me if I could take it. My crew chief called after it went out and asked me if I needed to come back to the station instead. I said duty calls, we're on it."
He laughs. "Nobody asked if I needed to talk to anyone, I just want home and went to sleep. Afterwards, I didn't know what to say to my wife about it-- I watched someone else's baby die and now I thought our babies were gonna die? So I sat on it, but I was gonna tell her. Then she went into labor two days later, and I had to leave work."
Laios pauses. "How old were they?"
"Twenty-nine weeks and three days. They were so small, less than half the size of the one from my call. It left my heart in my mouth, holding them in my hands, I thought they were going to stop breathing the whole time. Their lungs weren't fully developed either, they had to be tube fed, and they had vision problems."
He squeezes his eyes shut. "All my planning, my saving of my PTO, it was was for nothing, you know? I took a few days off to stay with my wife, we'd go to the NICU in the morning, stay there until it was time to do home, sleep, and do it again. Then I couldn't handle it anymore."
"I went back to work. We brought women to the hospital all the time, but I never told my wife we were there. I felt like I was gonna contaminate them, and bringing money in made sense when she suddenly wasn't working for an extra month. Mei came home after seven weeks, and Fler after nine. Those two weeks was the worst time, cause she had to go back and forth to the NICU to bring milk to Fler while taking care of Mei."
Laios hums his understanding and encouragement. "Did you get some days off then?"
He opens his eyes again. "I didn't offer to take days off, and she didn't ask. We weren't really talking then."
Laios swallows. "That sounds awful."
Chilchuck laughs. "I don't think she ever forgave me for leaving them like that."
Chilchuck goes quiet, throat bobbing as he swallows, opens his mouth, shuts it again, and shrugs, face flushing in embarrassment. Laios keeps his hand in his hair. "You know, I didn't get into EMS right out of high school. I worked at a mechanic's shop where this side of the county brought their trucks for a couple of years. I'd learned a bit from my dad, fixing our car and tractor, but there was a lot of learning I ended up doing on the job."
He smiles softly. "Nothing like Falin. She was good in school, but really good at biology. You know, she was trying to go to med school and cried when she saw an open heart surgery, not because it was scary but because she thought it was so beautiful?"
He looks down at Chilchuck who nods back, listening. "She came out here to go to school, giving up a position at John Hopkins because she wanted to be closer to me, and make connections at Regional. I'd moved out here as soon as I graduated, bought and slept in my car for a couple of months before I could get a job and afford an apartment. I don't regret it, but it was pretty stupid."
He laughs looking to the side, almost wistful. "When she was getting bloodwork done, as a part of her yearly school physical, they found that she had really high, like really high white blood cell counts along with abnormal weight loss. She called me at work and said she had just started an oncology seminar and these were cancer symptoms, that she might have some kind of blood cancer."
"She was so proud of herself for the self-diagnosis, and I was the one freaking out on company time. So, I told my boss it was a family emergency and left. While I was there, I saw the same trucks we would get in the shop at the hospital. It planted the idea in me, you know, that I could do a job I liked rather than one that just put a roof over my head. And maybe I could get some kind of insurance for Falin and I."
He smiles. "So I enrolled in community college EMT classes, got a student loan, and struggled my way through all the classroom bullshit, until I could get on the road. Everything got a lot easier after that for me, but Falin had to take a medical leave halfway through the semester because she was too sick to do her studies. She stayed with me at first, and I would drive her to her appointments and take care of things around the house. Until we went to one of her chemotherapy appointments, and they said she should stay for a couple of nights, to monitor bloodwork. She didn't stay at home much after that."
Chilchuck carefully grabs Laios' hand from its spot tangled in his hair and squeezes it. Laios squeezes back. "That's when I got my job, pretty much. I got my national license and kept pushing ahead, claimed Falin as a dependent on my insurance plan, and worked. I was doing the same thing you were. Bringing people to Regional, thinking I would go see my sister, and realizing I just didn't get the time, and after a point, I wasn't allowed in the same room as her, especially during a shift. Her immune system was too weak, and I was exposed to too many sick people."
Laios rubs his thumb against Chilchuck’s, more of a nervous tick than intentional contact. Chilchuck lets him, opening his mouth to speak.
"She's doin’ better now. What changed?" Laios squeezes his hand.
"She needed a stem cell transplant."
"Yeah?"
"Mhm. Uh. It's a part of what brought Marcille out here. I saw her on Falin's facebook and saw she worked at a cancer research lab, and I emailed her. We talked."
"And you helped her?"
"Sorta. I was the donor for Falin. Marcille kept talking about our HLAs, protein testing, immunity, medications, experimental therapies. It started going over my head, and she had these medical journals as sources that were. Just. I didn't get it, even when she tried to make it easier. All I cared about was if she could help, what they needed from me. She's amazing, Marcille-- she got Falin and I into clinical trials and took over talking to the oncology team. I don't know what we would have done without her."
Laios gaze wanders off to one of the corners of the room and he goes quiet, the smile having drifted away, replaced by a furrow between his brows. Chilchuck lifts and drops his head back into his thigh. "It all worked out?"
Laios looks back at him and the corners of his mouth perk back up. "Yeah, she's doing better now. And with Marcille here, I don't even hear if there are any problems because she is right there with Falin, and they take care of it. Falin moved in with her after she recovered. Marcille lived closer to the medical school and they were always really close."
"That's good."
"Mhm." Laios lets a moment pass. "I still was worried for a while afterwards. I ended up using the EAP too after Senshi said it might be a good idea to talk to someone about it. I was having dreams and waking up freaking out that she wasn't there, calling her and Marcille way too much. Things are a lot better now."
Chilchuck is the one to squeeze his hand. Laios' smile grows and he squeezes back. "Things work out. They have to."
Chilchuck gives an affirmative hum in response. They should probably move and work on other things, but there is an ease in tension that Chilchuck never realized he had carried into the station, had been carrying for many years alone and coiled in his chest.
He closes his eyes, and Laios does not ask him to move, does not try to slide away, does not untangle their hands. Chilchuck can feel his breath, a silent fond laugh, against his face and can't help it when the corners of his own mouth twitch upwards.

How Many Days Do You Need to Learn to Drive Confidently?
Learning how to drive confidently takes different amounts of time for different people. It depends on how often you practice, your level of experience and your overall level of comfort behind the wheel. In an ideal situation, it would take roughly two to three weeks of focused practice and instruction to learn to drive confidently.
Tumblr media
In the beginning, it is important to get familiar with the basics of driving, such as braking, accelerating, signalling, and becoming comfortable with the controls. Before getting behind the wheel, you need to familiarise yourself with the rules of the road by enrolling in a driving school in the Hills area. This way you can develop an understanding of the laws that apply to driving and the safety measures that must be followed behind the wheel.
Your next step should be to get hands-on experience. Initially, you can begin by finding a large, open space with few cars, such as an empty parking lot, and practice controlling the vehicle. This is an important stage of learning, and it is important to gain confidence and comfort with the car before advancing to driving on the street. After a few days of practice at a Hills area driving school, you should be able to move to more complicated manoeuvres, such as parallel parking and making three-point turns.
By the end of two to three weeks of practice, you should be ready for your driving test and be confident behind the wheel. The key to success is to maintain a steady learning process; be willing to make mistakes and ask for help when you need it.

genre: fluff, eventual smut, teen angst
synopsis: certain expectations come with being a pastor’s daughter. in everyone’s eyes you are a properly behaved girl, albeit rather timid. according to your parents, you aren’t as devoted to the church as you should be. they entrust you to an old family friend’s son, deeming him to be a good influence. these circumstances bring you two closer together and stir up all kinds of emotions.
MINORS DNI
. ⋅ ˚̣- : ✧ : – ⭒ ⊹ ⭒ – : ✧ : -˚̣⋅ .
Your parents are overjoyed by the recent changes in your behaviour since the bible readings. You’re participating more in church activities, volunteering to set up before service—it is as if you were a completely different person.
Unbeknownst to them, you’re really just there to spend more time with Felix. You are seeing him nearly everyday now. The bible readings have been happening more frequently, only they have turned into something else entirely. You get into his car, drive out to a remote beach or park. He still insists that you read one chapter at least—but you spend most of the time tangled up together, basking underneath the sun, talking about anything and everything.
Felix takes you out hiking this time. You’re reluctant about it as you aren’t exactly the active type, but he promises you that it is only an hour. That does little to assure you.
“Yeah, an hour going up a hill.” You scoff incredulously.
He rolls his eyes at your complaints and at you for being such a city girl, as he so lovingly puts it, but lets you ride on his back for the latter half of the way.
In the end he was right about the spot being worth it; a secluded area overlooking an inlet. You’d have to walk quite a bit off the trail to even know its there. He and his friends found it a while back during a youth group retreat.
Felix knows that you favour quiet and peaceful places like this. More importantly, when it’s just you and him because you can snuggle all you want without watchful eyes.
His attentiveness to you has caused you to grow very comfortable with him very quickly, which is a great feat in itself because making friends has never been easy for you. It normally takes years for you to warm up to someone. The friends you made in school never stuck around—they either moved away, or you drifted apart. You’ve never had that one constant person in your life; until now.
Felix has opened you up in ways you never knew was possible. You shared things about yourself—things you once thought you could never say out loud to another person.
How you are uncertain about your faith in God, and that you have always felt like these beliefs were forced upon you. How you have never felt in control of your own life and your resentment towards your parents.
He never judges you for thinking this way.
“I really like this one.”
His eyes are closed, fingers drumming against the arm that’s on his chest. You’re laying by his side, sharing your headphones with him. Music has quickly become another thing for you two to bond over.
“Yeah?” You smile, lifting your head. His fingers leave your hair and drag down your back.
“What’s it called?” He opens one eye, then the other, lips pulling into a smile when he sees your face above his.
You rest your chin against the palm of your hand, the other sliding up his chest to play with the hairs by the nape of his neck. “Heavenly by Cigarettes After Sex.”
The suggestive name makes his brows jump up his forehead. “Hm.” You chuckle at his face. “Well, they’re good.”
He has liked everything you’ve played for him so far. “I’ll send you the playlist.” You reach around for your phone, then lay your head down on his chest. A leg slides in between his.
“Hey. Uh,” he shifts around beneath you. “Can we talk about our… situation?”
“Hm?” You raise your head again to look at him.
“I just, uh... I've been thinking…” He goes to sit up and removes the headphones, his expression turning grave. “I think after today, it’d be a good idea for us to stop. Or at least try to slow things down.”
You shake your head in confusion. “Stop? Stop what, seeing each other?”
“No. I mean..." He glances away sheepishly, hand coming to the back of his head. “The touching.”
“Oh.” You turn away, brows pinching together. This seems incredibly sudden. He had no problem with it the previous times and has always leaned into your touch. “Why didn’t you say anything before if you didn’t like it?”
Felix sighs. He then fully faces you, meeting your eyes. “It’s not that I don’t like it.”
You tilt your head. “Then why…”
“Because I think I like it way more than I should.” He breathes out hard through his nose, gaze burning into yours. “That’s the problem—if we keep doing this, it… it might lead to something more.”
Your heart pounds fast at the implication. “It might?”
“It can’t.” Felix shakes his head, eyes drifting away. “And you know it can’t. Every time I see your father I feel so… guilty. They trusted me, and now it just feels like we’re sneaking around behind their back or something.”
This is ridiculous. People move out at your age but in your world, laying and cuddling with the guy you like is frowned upon. Even if that guy is someone your parents would approve of.
“Well… I don’t want to stop this.” You say in a stern voice, arms crossed over your chest.
“I know,” he reaches out, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear. He smiles. “Neither do I.”
You grab his hand and hold it in your lap. “Then let’s not.” Fingers come up to brush against his wrist and forearm. “We’re not doing anything wrong.”
“Maybe not now, but with the way things are heading with us…” Worry laces his features as he watches your hands.
In some perverse way you couldn’t explain, his concern about these possibilities rouses something in you. Mental images of you and him; sweaty and desperately clinging onto each other…
Driven by your impulses now, you bring his hand to your lips, pressing lingering kisses against the pads of his fingers.
“Would that be so bad?”
His breath hitches at the bold action, eyes blinking in disbelief, but he doesn’t withdraw his hand. Your name comes out of his mouth like a warning.
You’re aware of your effect on him and you know well enough that Felix wants the same things that you do, but something about his countenance tells you that he thinks you’re fucking with him or that God is putting him through some sort of test. You almost laugh at the thought.
Eager to convince him that you’re serious about this, you plant his hand on your waist and drag yourself closer to him, grinning coquettishly as your arms snake around his neck.
With his eyes downcast, he shakes his head, more to himself than at you. “We can’t...”
His actions contradict his words. The hand on your waist is firmly gripping onto you, as if scared that you’ll disappear into thin air.
“Want me to stop?” Your flushed faces are only a few inches apart now, and you can feel his breath feathering against your lips.
You can almost see the conflict happening in his mind as he slowly wags his head, struggling to meet your eyes.
“Tell me then.” You breathe harshly, chest rising and falling rapidly. “What do you want?”
“I want…” His voice is uncharacteristically high, expression looking almost pained. “I- I don’t know.”
“I think you do know, Felix.” Your hand slides down to his chest, fidgeting with the neckline of his shirt and teasing the skin below it.
Every nerve in your body is alight, pulsing with need. Your inner thighs get clammy as you keep them tightly pressed together, trying to satiate the desire between your legs.
This hunger has lived inside of you for as long as you can remember. Its presence known every time you stumbled upon a steamy kiss scene in a movie. An accidental swivel of your hips against the heel of your foot on a certain angle. Or a pillow. Not so accidental that time.
But this is the first time someone else has awakened that in you. This is the first time you have truly wanted and ached for somebody.
At school they tell you that these bodily urges are the enemy’s way of tricking you into temptation, and that acting on them is an immoral sin. These teachings have clearly rubbed off on Felix. You on the other hand, are harder to persuade.
Sounds of rustling come from not too far behind you. Someone is coming out of the shrubs. Both of you tear apart from each other immediately. By the time they make it out, you’re on opposite ends of the picnic blanket.
A small group of people emerge from the trail, their loud chatter pulling you out of your little bubble with Felix.
They seem to be in a world of their own, taking photos of the view and of each other—completely unaware of your flustered faces and what they have just interrupted.
It feels like no time has passed at all after they leave, as if you hit an unpause button.
Felix moves first—swiftly pulling off his shirt.
Your jaw slackens in utter shock, eyes doubling in size. Next thing he’s on his feet and unzipping his pants.
“Felix–“ You blush heavily, unsure of what to do with yourself.
Once his pants are off, he leaves them behind and goes running into the lake, water splashing all around his form.
Overtaken by bewilderment, your natural reaction is to laugh. “What are you doing!” You exclaim, rushing over to him.
His head bobs over the surface, blond hair sticking to his face, toothy smile and all. “I needed to cool off. Get in.”
Shaking your head in mirth, you slip off the straps of your dress. It pools at your feet, leaving you in just your undergarments. In the same fashion as him, you take a few steps back, bracing yourself before jumping in.
You shriek when your head pops back up for air. Goosebumps rise from your exposed flesh. “It’s so cold!”
Felix snickers, splashing at your face. Teeth chattering, your hands come down to smack the water towards him in retaliation.
As you’re rubbing the sting out of your eyes, he moves closer to you, cradling your face in his hands.
You gasp at the sudden proximity, not having time to process anything before he is gently lowering his lips onto yours. Your brain turns to mush as he mouths at you softly, warmth emitting from him.
Suddenly, you don’t feel so cold anymore.

Some people refer to Illinoisans as flatlanders. Or FIBS (which always made my mom laugh after some cheesehead in Wisconsin told her what it meant).
Galena is as flat as Hef's Playmates. Hills are steep. At times around the city I'd slow way down, just so I could press my head against the roof of my truck to get a better look at what was coming at us.
Today Sheila and I went to an event where we sampled local wines then hiked with goats. Our guide on the walk said Galena has the second highest point in Illinois.
Getting to the goat place entailed driving up a steep, rocky road. I've only used four-wheel-drive in deep snow or on frozen lakes. Now felt like a good time to try it out in the summer. Sheila said the Corolla in front of us was doing fine without four-wheel-drive, and I should just keep moving along instead of playing with the button on my dashboard.
A guy from Chicago retired to the area and started a winery. His vineyard employee was a retired school teacher. He gets all sorts of free wine and gets to talk about it with people like me. Goals!
The goat place teams with the winery for these events. It's a nice combination. We bought two bottle of wine before taking our post-tasting hike with goats.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The goats get to walk along a long path several times a day. People like us pay to join them. The goats eat foliage and chokecherries along the way. We watch them, learn their names, and take pictures.
Seriously, I've had less fun at parties after drinking significantly more wine than I did today. The goats were well behaved, probably wondering why all these strangers were taking pictures of them eating and pooping.
I would definitely do it again.

These anons clearly do not understand the difference between rural and suburban.
You know tbh I was second guessing myself yesterday like maybe "rural" is not the best description for the area that I live given its been encroached on by more suburban areas but this morning I had to take a sudden road closed detour on the winding valley backroad I drive to work and ended up crossing the railroad tracks into a little hilltop neighborhood on the windiest narrow road and all the houses were the flat faced coal mining special or trailers and i continued on down the hill to a road that intersected beside a bar that looked half about to fall down advertising "midget wrestling" and then I ended up in the corn fields across from my old elementary school and then--
