Another curiosity hidden in the circuit board is this wiggle on one of the traces. It contains a tiny detour to make sure it’s the same length as its paired trace, which is especially important when dealing with extra-high-speed data transmission.
High-bandwidth cables like Thunderbolt 3/USB-4 are nuts. It does make me crazy that I have to frequently unplug/replug my monitor back into the Thunderbolt dock to get it to re-sync but I can sympathize that the protocols and signaling rates have gotten so crazy it must not be easy to get it all exactly right.

New method provides automated calculation of surface properties in crystals
Computer-based methods are becoming an increasingly powerful tool in the search for new materials for key technologies such as photovoltaics, batteries, and data transmission. Prof. Dr. Caterina Cocchi and Holger-Dietrich Saßnick from the University of Oldenburg in Germany have now developed a high-throughput automatized method to calculate the surface properties of crystalline materials starting directly at the level of established laws of physics (first principles). In an article published in the journal npj Computational Materials, they report that this can speed up the search for relevant materials for applications in key areas such as the energy sector. They also plan to combine the method with artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to accelerate the process further. So far, similar methods have focused on bulk materials rather than surfaces, the two physicists explain. "All the relevant processes for energy conversion, production, and storage occur on surfaces," says Cocchi, who heads the Theoretical Solid State Physics research group at the University of Oldenburg.

How to identify and track military aircraft in online applications
It is surprisingly easy to track what is flying above you, but there are limits - you will still see only what the military wants you to see.

The system, known as ADS-B, allows you to quickly search for what is flying in your vicinity, or even on the other side of the world.
In the past, before the 2000s, people looked at the sky and saw the trail of condensation created by commercial and military jets at high altitudes and wondered what would be the aircraft that passed over our heads, where it was going, where it came from. Today, thanks to a worldwide transponder system, you can track even U.S. military aircraft.
About a decade later, it was already possible to follow commercial aircraft, knowing which airline, flight level, speed and route taken by the flights, being able to accurately follow the arrival of a plane at the airport.
Currently, equipped with a smartphone and with a particular app or website, we can find all this and much more.

Civil aviation authorities around the world began to implement Automatic Transmission of Dependent Surveillance (ADS-B) in the early years. The ADS-B is an aircraft-mounted transponder system that transmits a variety of information in real time, including the location, speed, direction of the aircraft and a unique transponder code for each aircraft. This information, plotted on a map, gives pilots and ground controllers the ability to quickly get a sense of the local airspace (or the airspace of most places on Earth).
Transponder signals can also be captured by cheap terrestrial receivers that amateurs, aviation enthusiasts and others can build for less than $100 using widely available hardware and software, some of which can be obtained on flight tracking sites.

As of 2021, ADS-B transponders are mandatory in the USA, Europe, Australia, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Taiwan and Vietnam, and the system is being implemented in China, Canada and Saudi Arabia.
In the United States, almost every type of aircraft - from commercial aircraft and small private aircraft to military fighters, helicopters, bombers, tankers, information-collection aircraft, transport, special operations aircraft, drones and even VIP aircraft carrying the president and members of Congress - are required to transpose into controlled airspace.

The information is not only available to the aviation community. The ADS-B Exchange website gathers aircraft tracking data and makes it available in real time, allowing anyone to track air traffic anywhere the system is working.
Unlike FlightRadar24.com or FlightAware.com - which rely on flight tracking data streams provided by the FAA and other international aviation authorities or obtained from Aireon's global ADS-B air traffic surveillance and tracking network, as well as ground-based ADS-B receivers - ADSBExchange.com relies on thousands of independently owned ground-based ADS-B receivers and multilayer devices, or MLAT.

MLAT receivers in groups of three or four in a small geographical area use triangulation to track aircraft. In other words, if an aircraft is not using ADS-B for transponder as military aircraft sometimes do, MLAT receivers can still capture their S-Mode transponder signals and establish a position and tracking for an aircraft, as well as altitude and speed data.
The network of receivers of the ADSBExchange.com website includes 10,000 MLAT devices worldwide. As it does not collect flight tracking data from government or commercial sources, it may offer "unfiltered" flight tracking.
ADS-B Exchange merges ADS-B data with other publicly known data on military and civilian aircraft around the world. Individual aircraft are plotted on OpenStreetMap - a free geographical database of the world - represented by color-coded icons according to altitude. The icons range from individual autostos and Cessna 182 to four-engine Boeing 747 and Airbus A380 civil aircraft. Military icons include U-2, KC-135 Stratotankers, C-17 Globemaster III, C-5M Super Galaxy, V-22 Ospreys and so on, although fighters are often represented by a more generic icon model of swept wing and stuffy nose.

A click on the icon includes spatial information, including ground speed, altitude and location, ADS-B signal strength and other data. It also includes the registration of the aircraft, the country of registration and adds a photograph or thumbnail of the aircraft when possible.
All this means that, with the click of a button, you can instantly find out what is flying near you.
Although aircraft tracking has long been a niche hobby among aviation enthusiasts who like to catalog the comings and goings of aircraft, the public availability of transponder data in mid-air also offers journalists, researchers and other observers an effective means of tracking the movements and activities of the planes of the richest and most powerful in the world. The aggregation and analysis of public flight data shed light on the CIA's torture flights, the movements of the Russian oligarchs, and Google's friendly relationship with NASA.
Flights from ISR platforms tracked in the Ukraine region for a period of one month, at the end of last year.
More recently, these tracking techniques have gained international attention after attracting the wrath of Elon Musk, the richest man in the world. After buying social media giant Twitter, Musk banned an account that shared the movements of his private jet.
Despite repeated promises to protect freedom of expression - and a specific promise not to ban the @ElonJet account - on the platform, Musk censored anyone who shared the whereabouts of his plane, claiming that the data obtained entirely legally and totally public was equivalent to "murder coordinates".
A Global Hawk flown remotely with the indicater FORTE12 was the last aircraft tracked over Ukraine before the invasion of Russian forces and the closure of the country's airspace to civilian air traffic, according to the global flight tracking service Flightradar24.
Soon after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a US Global Hawk, with the indication FORTE12, was followed almost daily by thousands of people on the Flighradar24 platform.
Publicly available flight tracking data is a growing problem for the U.S. military, a senior Pentagon official said recently.
Sites such as ADSBExchange.com, FlightRadar24.com and FlightAware.com aggregate flight data in the United States and abroad using a combination of commercial and citizen-owned sensors that capture the movements of commercial, civil and military aircraft in real time, 24 hours a day.
"The Department of Defense considers open source flight tracking and data aggregation on our aircraft a direct threat to our ability to conduct military air operations around the world," the U.S. Air Force said.

Aggregated by websites and retransmitted on social media accounts, the data can be a free source of intelligence for nation-states, terrorist groups or individuals, revealing everything from operational movements of aircraft, aviation units and troops to training standards, development test flights and the movements of government officials, experts said.

The U.S. civil registration code on the side was not assigned to any specific aircraft at the time and its exact operator remains unknown. However, this is very much in line with the types of aircraft that JSOC allegedly operates clandestinely and that would be interested in hiding the activities through the proposed aircraft flight profile management database tool.
Therefore, military aircraft routinely transmit their ADS-B data, but have the option to turn it off when necessary. The Pentagon is well aware that aviation enthusiasts - and potential opponents - monitor ADS-B data and that aircraft turn off transponders when they do not want anyone to observe them. Often when following the aircraft they simply disappear abruptly from the map.
The U.S. military is also known to use fake hexadecimal codes, which identify a transponder as belonging to a specific aircraft, to help mask certain sensitive flights. For example, the U.S. Air Force VC-25A Air Force One jet that transported President Donald Trump to Afghanistan in 2019 electronically disguised itself for a time as a KC-10 Extender tanker in this way.
As a particularly notable and relevant example of tracking high-profile U.S. military flights, the U.S. Air Force C-40 Clipper aircraft that transported Nancy Pelosi, then a representative of the Democratic Party in California and mayor, to Taiwan last year was visible online, despite concerns that the Chinese military might try to forcibly prevent the flight from reaching the island or harassing it otherwise.
This flight, which used the SPAR19 indicative, was one of the most tracked of all time in terms of total simultaneous users monitoring it on the popular website FlightRadar24, and ended up taking down the app for a period of time.

In mid-November, something new happened: a U.S. aircraft involved in combat apparently left its ADS-B on, and did so intentionally. An AC-130J Ghostrider attack aircraft carried out an airstrike against a target that had launched a missile attack against U.S. forces at Al Assad Air Base in Iraq. The AC-130 gunship has a variety of weapons, including 30mm and 105mm cannons, and precisely guided bombs and missiles, and usually flies in lazy circles above its target, pouring firepower on the targets below. In Al Assad's retaliatory air attack, according to The Aviationist website, the Ghostrider involved apparently kept his transponder on all the time, drawing large circles on the ADS-B map and it was possible to be seen on the Radar Box website.
In Brazil, it is possible to track several military aircraft in aircraft tracking applications, including the most widespread Flightradar24. Next, you can see the KC-390, C-130 Hercules transport aircraft or T-27 Tucano coaches in flight near the Air Force Academy. The FAB has hidden data from the presidential aircraft A319 (VC-1) and E190 (VC-2) on these sites.

More recently, it was possible to follow the flights of the Brazilian Air Force that went to seek refugees and Brazilian citizens who were and Israel and the Gaza Strip. The KC-30 and KC-390 aircraft could be tracked in real time on the tracking platforms.
If you are a fan of military aircraft or just like to know what is happening when you hear the noise of aircraft engines, ADS-B is a free and reliable tool that you should use to track and identify planes. Observing fighters, spy planes and transport coming and going can help you get to know your armed forces. Just keep in mind that, at least when it comes to military flights, you will only see what the military wants you to see.

From Christmas Eve, the flight tracking site Flightradar24 will be keeping an eye on Santa Claus and his reindeer Rudolph, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen as they accelerate around the world.
Initially tracking Santa Claus was a challenge, but thanks to an ADS-B transponder installed a few years ago and the reindeer horns functioning as an additional antenna, Flightradar24 uses a mixture of terrestrial and satellite ADS-B coverage to track Santa Claus during his busiest night of the year.

Simple shift could make low Earth orbit satellites high capacity
Low-orbit satellites could soon offer millions of people worldwide access to high-speed communications, but the satellites’ potential has been stymied by a technological limitation — their antenna arrays can only manage one user at a time.
The one-to-one ratio means that companies must launch either constellations of many satellites, or large individual satellites with many arrays, to provide wide coverage. Both options are expensive, technically complex, and could lead to overcrowded orbits.
For example, SpaceX went the “constellation” route. Its network, StarLink, currently consists of over 6,000 satellites in low-Earth orbit, over half of which were launched in the past few years. SpaceX aims to launch tens of thousands more in the coming years.
Now, researchers at Princeton engineering and at Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Taiwan have invented a technique that enables low-orbit satellite antennas to manage signals for multiple users at once, drastically reducing needed hardware.
In a paper published June 27 in IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, the researchers describe a way to overcome the single-user limit. The strategy builds on a common technique to strengthen communications by positioning antenna arrays to direct a beam of radio waves precisely where it’s needed. Each beam carries information, like texts or phone calls, in the form of signals. While antenna arrays on terrestrial platforms such as cell towers can manage many signals per beam, low-orbit satellites can only handle one.
The satellites’ 20,000 miles-per-hour speed and constantly changing positions make it nearly impossible to handle multiple signals without jumbling them.
“For a cell tower to communicate with a car moving 60 miles per hour down the highway, compared to the rate that data is exchanged, the car doesn’t move very much,” said co-author H. Vincent Poor, the Michael Henry Strater University Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Princeton. “But these satellites are moving very fast to stay up there, so the information about them is changing rapidly.”
To deal with that limitation, the researchers developed a system to effectively split transmissions from a single antenna array into multiple beams without requiring additional hardware. This allows satellites to overcome the limit of a single user per antenna array.
Co-author Shang-Ho (Lawrence) Tsai, professor of electrical engineering at Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, compared the approach to shining two distinctive rays from a flashlight without relying on multiple bulbs. “Now, we only need one bulb,” he said. “This means a huge reduction in cost and power consumption.”
A network with fewer antennas could mean fewer satellites, smaller satellites, or both. “A conventional low Earth orbit satellite network may need 70 to 80 satellites to cover the United States alone,” Tsai said. “Now, that number could be reduced to maybe 16.”
The new technique can be incorporated into existing satellites that are already built, according to Poor. “But a key benefit is that you can design a simpler satellite,” he said.
Impacts in space
Low-orbit satellites reside in the lower layer of Earth’s atmosphere, between 100 and 1,200 miles from the surface. This region of space offers limited real estate. The more objects flying around, the more likely they are to crash, breaking apart and releasing smaller fragments of debris that can then crash into other objects.
“The concern there isn’t so much getting hit by a falling satellite,” Poor said, “But about the long-term future of the atmosphere, and the orbit being clouded up with space debris causing problems.”
Because the low-orbit satellite industry is gaining traction at a rapid pace, with companies including Amazon and OneWeb deploying their own satellite constellations to provide internet service, the new technique has the potential to reduce the risk of these hazards.
Poor said that while this paper is purely theoretical, the efficiency gains are real. “This paper is all mathematics,” he said. “But in this field in particular, theoretical work tends to be very predictive.”
Since publishing the paper, Tsai has gone on to conduct field tests using underground antennas and has shown that the math does, in fact, work. “The next step is to implement this in a real satellite and launch it into space,” he said.

The airship tore through the sky at full speed, its engines roaring as Demetri piloted the vessel with mechanical precision. The wind whipped against the windows, and the tension inside the cabin was thick enough to cut with a knife. Every scout on board was on edge, their eyes scanning the horizon, waiting for the moment they would see the coast and the submarine that had taken Tiana.
Levi stood near the front, gripping the rail as he stared out at the vast ocean below. His face was a mask of determination, his jaw set, but inside, his thoughts were a storm. He needed more information—needed to know exactly what they were up against.
“Demetri,” Levi called out, his voice tight with urgency. “Did Tiana say anything else when she contacted you? Anything that could help us?”
Demetri’s head turned slightly, his mechanical eyes glowing softly. “Dr. Belrose was concise in her transmission,” he replied, his tone steady. “She provided her coordinates and the estimated time of arrival. However, I did detect additional background noise during the communication.”
Levi’s eyes narrowed. “Background noise?” he asked sharply. “What kind of noise?”
Demetri paused for a moment, his internal systems processing the data. “I detected four distinct male voices in the background while Dr. Belrose was speaking,” he explained. “Based on my auditory analysis, one of the voices belongs to Porco Galliard, the Jaw Titan. He is the one who initiated her capture.”
A murmur rippled through the scouts at the mention of Porco’s name. Mikasa’s eyes darkened, and Eren clenched his fists, his expression hardening. Levi’s grip tightened on the rail, his knuckles turning white.
“The Jaw Titan,” Levi muttered, his voice low and dangerous. “So he’s the one who took her.”
Demetri continued, “The other voices were less distinct, but they appeared to belong to Marleyan soldiers. Their tone suggested a level of authority, possibly commanders or high-ranking officials.”
Jean, standing nearby, exchanged a glance with Connie and Sasha. “If they have her in that underwater ship,” Jean said, his voice grim, “they’re probably planning to use her as leverage against us. Maybe even try to extract information from her.”
“Good luck with that,” Sasha snorted, her eyes fierce. “Tiana’s tougher than they think. She won’t break.”
Levi’s eyes flicked to Sasha, a flicker of gratitude in his gaze. “No, she won’t,” he agreed. “But that doesn’t mean she’s safe. They’ll try to use her to get to us—to get to me.”
Armin nodded, his expression thoughtful. “And we know they have Titan strength on their side. We need to be prepared for anything.”
Levi’s mind raced, calculating their options, weighing the risks. “Demetri,” he said, turning back to the android. “Keep the airship at full speed. We need to reach that beach before they surface. We can’t let them get away.”
“Understood, Captain Levi,” Demetri responded, his hands moving over the controls with mechanical precision. “We will arrive at the coordinates in approximately forty minutes at our current speed.”
Levi nodded, his eyes narrowing as he stared out at the horizon. “Good,” he muttered. “Keep us on course.”
The airship continued its rapid descent toward the coast, every second ticking by like an eternity. The scouts were tense, their hands gripping their weapons, ready for whatever awaited them on that beach. They knew this wasn’t going to be easy. They knew they were up against formidable enemies. But they also knew they had no choice. Tiana’s life was on the line, and they would do whatever it took to bring her back.
Mikasa moved to Levi’s side, her expression serious. “We’ll be ready,” she said quietly. “No matter what they throw at us, we’ll be ready.”
Levi glanced at her, a small nod of acknowledgment. “I know,” he replied. “And when we get there, we hit them hard and fast. We don’t give them a chance to regroup.”
Eren clenched his fists, his eyes blazing with determination. “They took one of ours,” he growled. “They’ll regret it.”
The scouts fell silent, their resolve hardening. They could feel the urgency in the air, the weight of what was at stake. Tiana wasn’t just a brilliant mind or a valuable ally. She was one of them. And they would stop at nothing to get her back.

Porco leaned against the wall, watching her with a smug grin. “So, your boyfriend’s coming to save you, huh?” he taunted. “Levi Ackerman, supposedly “Humanity’s Strongest Soldier”. I wonder how he’ll feel knowing he’s risking everything for a woman who’s probably just using him.”
Tiana rolled her eyes, not bothering to hide her disdain. “You really think I’m using him?” she shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “You must be dumber than you look.”
Porco’s grin faltered, but he quickly recovered. “I just think it’s funny,” he continued, his tone mocking. “A man like him, so inexperienced, so… green when it comes to women. You must have had quite a time teaching him the ropes.”
The Marleyan engineer chuckled, leaning in. “Yeah, what’s it like, huh? Having to guide him through everything? Bet it was real awkward at first.”
Tiana’s eyes narrowed, a cold smile spreading across her lips. “Why don’t you save your breath?” she retorted sharply. “If you’re so interested in his skills, you can ask him yourself when he gets here. See how bold you are then.”
Porco’s smirk faded, replaced by a scowl. “You’re pretty cocky for someone who’s tied up,” he snapped.
“I have reason to be,” Tiana replied coolly. “You think you’ve won because you’ve got me in here? You think Levi’s going to let this slide? You have no idea what’s coming for you.”
The engineer’s face tightened, a flicker of doubt in his eyes. “Shut her up,” he muttered to Porco. “She’s just trying to mess with us.”
Porco waved him off, though his confidence seemed to waver. “Let her talk,” he muttered. “Won’t matter soon anyway.”
Tiana smirked inwardly, her mind still working, still calculating. They thought they had the upper hand, but they were wrong. Levi was coming. She knew it. And when he did, there would be hell to pay.
The submarine creaked and groaned as it moved through the depths, but Tiana remained calm, her thoughts fixed on the airship, on Levi, on the scouts. They were coming for her. She could feel it. And when they arrived, she would be ready to strike.

Porco, standing at the entrance of the submarine, caught sight of Levi barreling toward him, and his eyes widened in shock. He had assumed they had more time, that the scouts wouldn’t reach them so soon. Panic surged through him, and he instinctively tightened his grip on Tiana, pulling her in front of him like a shield. He held a blade to her neck, the edge biting into her skin just enough to draw a thin line of blood.
“Tiana!” Levi shouted, his voice raw with emotion, his blades drawn and ready.
Tiana could feel the cold steel pressing against her throat, but her eyes were on Levi, wide and unyielding. Even with the blade threatening her life, she managed a smirk, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “What’s the matter, Porco?” she taunted, her tone fearless. “What happened to all that mouth you had on the submarine? You spent hours talking shit about Levi, and now that he’s here, you’re scared?”
Porco’s face twisted with rage and fear, his eyes darting between Tiana and Levi. “Shut up!” he snarled, pressing the blade harder against her skin. “Shut up, or I swear I’ll—”
“You’ll what?” Tiana interrupted, her smirk widening despite the danger. “You’ll kill me? Then what? Levi will cut you to pieces before you can even blink.”
Levi’s eyes were locked on Porco, his face a mask of deadly calm, but inside, his heart was racing. Seeing Tiana in danger, seeing the blade pressed to her neck, filled him with a rage so intense he could barely breathe. But he couldn’t show it—not yet. He needed to stay focused, to keep Porco talking.
“Tiana,” Levi called out, his voice steady but filled with an edge of desperation. “I’m here. I’ve got you.”
Tiana’s eyes softened, her smirk fading as she looked at him. “I know,” she said quietly, her voice carrying a calm confidence that surprised even her. “I knew you’d come.”
Porco’s grip tightened on the blade, his hand trembling. “Don’t come any closer!” he shouted, his voice laced with panic. “I’ll kill her! I swear I’ll—”
Before Porco could finish his threat, Levi moved. In a flash, he was on Porco, his movements too fast to track. The blade that had been against Tiana’s neck clattered to the ground, and Porco barely had time to react before Levi’s blades sliced through his limbs with a precision that was almost surgical. One arm, then the other. Both legs followed in quick succession.
Porco screamed in agony, collapsing to the sand, his blood soaking into the ground beneath him. Tiana stumbled back, free of his grasp, her eyes wide with shock. Levi’s blades were coated in blood, but he didn’t seem to notice. His focus was entirely on Tiana.
“Tiana,” he whispered, his voice breaking as he dropped his swords and rushed to her, wrapping his arms around her tightly. He buried his face in her neck, holding her as if she might disappear at any moment. “Thank God… I thought… I thought I’d lost you.”
Tiana blinked, her heart pounding as she felt his strong arms around her, the warmth of his body pressing against hers. She had never seen Levi like this—so vulnerable, so relieved. Her own hands came up slowly, hesitantly, to wrap around his back, returning his embrace. “Levi…” she murmured, her voice soft and filled with emotion. “I’m here. I’m okay.”
Levi’s grip tightened, and he pulled back just enough to look into her eyes. His expression was intense, his eyes dark with a mixture of fear and relief. “I thought you were dead,” he confessed, his voice raw. “I thought… I’d never get to tell you how I feel.”
Tiana’s breath caught in her throat, her eyes searching his. “Levi…” she began, but he cut her off.
“I love you, Tiana,” he said, the words spilling out before he could stop them. “I’ve never felt this way before, never… cared about anyone like this. And when I thought I lost you, I… I couldn’t breathe. I need you. I love you.”
Tiana’s eyes filled with tears, a smile breaking across her face. “I love you too, Levi,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “I’ve loved you since the day I met you.”
For a moment, they just held each other, the world around them fading away. The sound of the battle, the shouts of the scouts, the roar of the airship—it all disappeared, leaving only the two of them in that moment of connection and relief.
Behind them, the scouts were finishing off the last of the Marleyan soldiers who had been on the submarine. Eren and Mikasa moved swiftly, their blades cutting down any who tried to resist. Jean and Connie worked in tandem, their movements fluid and precise. It was a coordinated attack, and within moments, the beach was clear.
“Levi!” Hange called out, her voice cutting through the chaos. “We’ve got them! All of them!”
Levi nodded, his eyes never leaving Tiana’s face. He could see the exhaustion in her eyes, the relief. “Good,” he replied, his voice steady. “Get Porco on the airship. He’s coming with us as our prisoner. Make sure he’s bound tightly. No chances.”
Porco lay on the sand, groaning in pain, his limbs severed and bleeding. He tried to transform, to use his Titan powers, but without his limbs his body was taking everything it had to heal. He could do nothing but watch as the scouts approached him, tying him up and dragging him toward the airship.
“Let me go!” Porco snarled, but his voice was weak, his strength fading. “You… you’ll regret this…”
Levi glanced over at him, his expression cold. “The only one regretting anything here is you,” he said flatly. “You made a mistake taking her. A mistake that’s going to cost you everything.”
Porco’s eyes flashed with hatred, but he was too weak to respond. The scouts hauled him onto the airship, his body limp and lifeless.
Levi turned back to Tiana, his hand reaching up to gently touch her cheek. “Are you hurt?” he asked softly, his voice filled with concern.
Tiana shook her head, her smile bright despite the tears in her eyes. “I’m okay,” she whispered. “I’m just… so glad you’re here.”
Levi nodded, his thumb brushing away a tear from her cheek. “I’ll always be here,” he promised. “No matter what.”
They stayed like that for a moment longer, wrapped in each other’s arms, before Levi finally pulled back, his face serious once more. “Let’s get you on the airship,” he said gently. “We need to get out of here. Fast.”
Tiana nodded, leaning on him for support as they made their way toward the airship. The scouts were already preparing for takeoff, their movements quick and efficient. The battle was over, but they knew they weren’t out of danger yet.
As they boarded the airship, Levi kept his arm around Tiana, his eyes scanning the beach for any remaining threats. But all he could see was the ocean, stretching out before them, the waves crashing against the shore. He felt a sense of relief wash over him, a feeling of triumph.
They had won. They had saved her. And he had finally told her how he felt.

Tiana’s eyes widened at the sight of the needle, and she instinctively flinched, her breath hitching in her throat. “I hate needles,” she murmured, her voice shaking slightly. “I really, really hate needles.”
Levi squeezed her hand tighter, his thumb brushing reassuringly over her knuckles. “I’m here,” he said softly, his voice steady and calm. “Just look at me, okay? Don’t think about the needle.”
Tiana nodded, her eyes locking onto Levi’s. She could feel her heart racing, a mix of pain and fear coursing through her. But Levi’s gaze was steady, his presence grounding her, giving her something to focus on other than the sharp point of the needle that was about to pierce her skin.
Hange moved closer, positioning the needle over the wound. “Okay, Tiana,” she said, her tone gentle but firm. “Deep breath in, and here we go…”
As the needle pierced her skin, Tiana squeezed Levi’s hand harder, a small whimper escaping her lips. Levi leaned closer, his other hand coming up to cup her cheek. “Hey,” he whispered, his voice soothing. “You’re doing great. Just a little longer.”
Tiana’s breathing quickened, her grip on Levi’s hand almost painful, but she didn’t care. She focused on his eyes, on the calm, reassuring presence he offered. “Levi… talk to me,” she managed to say, her voice strained. “Distract me. Please.”
Levi nodded, his voice low and comforting. “Do you remember that time in the workshop,” he began, “when you were so focused on your gadget that you didn’t even notice Hange sneaking up behind you?”
Tiana let out a shaky laugh, her eyes still locked on his. “Yes… I almost hit her with a wrench,” she replied, her voice trembling with both fear and a hint of amusement.
Levi smiled softly, his thumb brushing against her cheek. “Yeah, you did. You were so into it, I thought Hange was going to lose her head. But you’re always like that, aren’t you? So passionate, so driven.”
Tiana nodded, her grip on his hand relaxing just a little. “It’s what I love,” she murmured. “I love creating, building things… even if it sometimes means losing myself in it.”
Levi chuckled softly. “I love that about you,” he said quietly. “Your passion, your determination. It’s inspiring.”
Tiana’s breath hitched, a mix of pain and emotion welling up inside her. “Levi…”
“It’s okay,” he murmured, his voice like a balm to her frayed nerves. “Just keep looking at me. You’re almost done.”
Hange worked quickly, her hands steady as she stitched the wound closed. “Almost there,” she muttered, her eyes focused on her task. “Just a few more stitches…”
Tiana’s breathing was uneven, her eyes glistening with unshed tears, but she didn’t look away from Levi. She held onto him like a lifeline, his presence the only thing keeping her grounded, keeping her from succumbing to the fear.
“There you go,” Hange finally said, tying off the last stitch and stepping back. “All done. You did great, Tiana.”
Tiana let out a shaky breath, her body relaxing slightly now that the ordeal was over. “Thanks, Hange,” she murmured, her voice weak but relieved. “And… thank you, Levi.”
Levi gave her hand one last reassuring squeeze before letting go. “You were brave,” he said softly. “You always are.”
Tiana managed a small smile, her eyes heavy with exhaustion. “I’m just glad it’s over,” she whispered.
Hange nodded. “You need to rest now,” she said, helping Tiana off the cot. “The wound needs time to heal. You’ve been through a lot today.”
Levi didn’t hesitate. He bent down, scooping Tiana up into his arms as if she weighed nothing. Tiana’s eyes widened in surprise, but she didn’t protest. She was too tired, too grateful for his warmth, his strength.
“I’ve got you,” Levi murmured, carrying her toward one of the bunk beds. “Just rest.”
Tiana nodded, her head resting against his shoulder. “Thank you,” she whispered, her eyes already beginning to flutter closed.
Levi carefully laid her down on the bunk, pulling a blanket over her. He brushed a few loose strands of hair from her face, his expression softening as he watched her. “Sleep, Tiana,” he whispered. “I’ll be right here.”
Within moments, Tiana’s breathing evened out, her body relaxing as she succumbed to sleep. Levi stayed by her side for a few moments longer, his eyes lingering on her peaceful face. Relief washed over him, but it was quickly replaced by a burning anger. Porco had taken her, had put her through hell, and now he was going to pay.
Levi stood up, his expression hardening. He turned and made his way toward the prisoner hold, his steps purposeful, his mind filled with a single, unyielding thought: revenge.

He took a step closer, his hand resting on the hilt of his blade. “You took her,” he continued, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. “You threatened her. Hurt her. And for that, you’re going to suffer.”
Porco’s eyes widened, a flicker of fear crossing his face. “You wouldn’t dare,” he began, but Levi cut him off.
“Wouldn’t I?” Levi asked, his tone icy. “You don’t know me. You don’t know what I’m capable of. But you’re about to find out.”
He leaned in closer, his voice low and filled with a quiet, deadly promise. “I’m going to make sure every second of your life from this moment on is filled with pain. And when I’m done, you’re going to beg me for mercy. And I’m not going to give it to you.”
Porco’s face paled, his bravado crumbling. “Ackerman…” he whispered, his voice trembling. “Please… don’t…”
Levi’s smile faded, his expression turning hard. “You made your choice” he said flatly. “Now live with it.”
And with that, he began.
The airship was filled with a tense silence, punctuated only by the muffled, agonized screams emanating from the prisoner hold. The scouts exchanged uneasy glances as they listened, their expressions a mixture of shock and apprehension. Most of them had ever heard sounds like this before—not from Levi’s hand. Mikasa nodded, her gaze fixed on the door of the prisoner hold. “Porco took Tiana,” she said quietly, her tone grim. “It’s personal for him. Levi doesn’t… he doesn’t let go of things like this.”
Jean leaned against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest, his face serious. “I mean, I get it,” he said, his voice steady. “If someone took the person I loved, I’d be mad too. But… this is Levi. I didn’t even think he had it in him to feel this way about someone.”
Isaac, standing a few feet away, couldn’t help but feel a pang of unease. He had always thought Levi was just a cold, emotionless soldier. He never imagined he could be so… intense. The screams from the hold were unnerving, each one a stark reminder of Levi’s capability for brutality when pushed too far.

Sasha nodded, her face serious for once. “Yeah,” she agreed. “But Porco kind of asked for it, didn’t he? Talking all that trash about Levi and Tiana on the submarine… It’s like he wanted to see how far he could push him.”
Armin sighed, his expression thoughtful. “Porco underestimated Levi,” he said softly. “He thought he could provoke him, make him lose his cool. But Levi… he doesn’t work like that. When you threaten someone he cares about, it’s not just anger. It’s calculated. It’s methodical.”
Eren, who had been quiet until now, spoke up, his voice low and intense. “Levi’s not just fighting for Tiana,” he said. “He’s fighting for himself too. He’s never been in love before. This is new to him. And he’s not going to let anyone take it away from him.”
Isaac felt a chill run down his spine as he listened. He had never seen this side of Levi before, never imagined that someone so stoic could be capable of such fury. He glanced over at the door to the prisoner hold, where the screams continued to echo.

“Please… please… stop…” Porco rasped, his voice barely a whisper now. “I… I didn’t mean… I was just following orders…”
Levi didn’t pause, didn’t even blink. His hands were steady, his movements precise as he continued his methodical torment. “You took her,” he said quietly, his voice like ice. “You threatened her. Hurt her. And now you’re going to pay for it. Every single second of it.”
Porco’s eyes were wide with terror, his bravado shattered. He had underestimated Levi, thought he could push him, taunt him into losing control. But now, with the pain coursing through his body, he realized his mistake. Levi was no ordinary soldier. He was a force of nature, and he had made the fatal error of getting in his way.
“Ackerman… please…” Porco begged, his voice breaking. “I’ll tell you… I’ll tell you everything… just… please…”
Levi leaned in closer, his expression unchanging. “You’ll tell me everything,” he replied calmly, “because you know it’s the only way to make this stop. But even then… even then, it won’t be enough.”
Outside the door, the scouts could hear every word, every agonized scream, and it sent a chill through them. They had always known Levi was ruthless, but this was something else entirely. This was a side of him they had never seen—a side that was terrifying in its intensity.
Hange finally spoke up, her voice low and cautious. “Maybe… maybe we should check on him,” she suggested, glancing around at the others. “Make sure he’s okay.”
Mikasa nodded, her expression tense. “I’ll go,” she said. “He might listen to me.”
Inside the hold, Levi finally paused, his breathing heavy. He looked down at Porco, his face impassive. “Are you ready to talk now?” he asked, his voice devoid of any emotion.
Porco nodded frantically, his eyes wide with fear. “Yes… yes… I’ll tell you everything… just please… no more…”

An hour later, the screams had stopped. Inside the airship, the only sounds now were the low hum of the engines and the distant crash of waves outside. The tension that had hung thick in the air finally began to dissipate, replaced by an eerie, unsettling silence.
Levi emerged from the prisoner hold, his steps slow and measured. His face was expressionless, his eyes cold and distant. Behind him, Porco lay slumped in the chair, his body limp, his eyes wide with shock. He wasn’t even trying to move anymore. His mouth hung open, but no sound came out. Whatever spirit of defiance had been in him was gone, replaced by a hollow, broken shell.
Erwin, Hange, and the rest of the scouts were gathered in the corridor, their eyes following Levi as he walked past them without a word. Erwin’s expression was inscrutable, but there was a hint of something—concern, perhaps, or maybe understanding. Hange, on the other hand, looked visibly shaken, his eyes wide as he watched Levi’s every move. 
Connie leaned over to Jean, whispering under his breath, “I’ve never seen Captain Levi like this… I mean, I knew he was tough, but this…?”
Jean nodded, his expression grim. “Yeah. It’s like he flipped a switch. One minute he’s slicing Titans like it’s nothing, and the next… he’s like a different person.”
Sasha, standing nearby, crossed her arms over her chest, her face serious. “Well, he’s always been ruthless in battle,” she said quietly. “But this… this is different. It’s like he was out for blood.”
Eren, who had been silent, finally spoke up, his voice low and thoughtful. “It’s because of Tiana,” he said. “Porco took her, threatened her. That’s why Levi… did what he did. It’s not just about the mission anymore. It’s personal.”
Mikasa nodded in agreement, her eyes never leaving Levi as he moved toward the small bathroom at the end of the corridor. “He’s in love,” she murmured. “And when you’re in love… you’ll do anything to protect the person you care about.”
As Levi reached the sink, he turned on the tap, letting the cold water run over his hands. He watched as the blood slowly washed away, swirling down the drain in a crimson spiral. His movements were calm, methodical. There was no rush, no urgency. He was meticulous, almost surgical in the way he cleaned himself. It was as if he were washing away not just the blood, but the rage, the fury that had gripped him for the past hour.
Erwin exchanged a glance with Hange, his expression still unreadable. “I’ve known Levi for a long time,” he said quietly. “I’ve seen him in battle, seen him at his most ruthless. But this… I don’t think I’ve ever seen him like this before.”
Hange nodded, her eyes thoughtful. “Love does strange things to people,” she replied. “It brings out sides of them they didn’t even know they had. Levi… he’s always been so closed off, so guarded. But with Tiana… it’s like she’s opened something in him.”
Isaac, standing a little further back, was still reeling. He couldn’t believe what he had just witnessed. The way Levi had torn through Porco, the relentless, almost mechanical precision with which he had inflicted pain—it was terrifying. But even more unsettling was the way Levi now seemed so calm, so collected, as if nothing had happened.
Levi finished washing his hands and dried them on a towel, his expression unreadable. Then, without a word, he turned and walked back down the corridor, his steps purposeful, his eyes focused. He moved with a kind of quiet grace, a lethal elegance that belied the fury he had unleashed just moments before.
The scouts parted to let him pass, their eyes following him with a mix of awe and apprehension. Levi didn’t acknowledge them, didn’t even seem to notice they were there. His mind was elsewhere, his thoughts on the woman waiting for him in the bunk.

Connie chuckled, shaking his head. “Hey, don’t say that too loud. He might hear you and snap your neck like a twig.”
But despite their light-hearted banter, there was a genuine curiosity among the scouts. They had always known Levi as a stoic, unyielding force of nature—a man who never showed weakness, who never let his emotions get the best of him. But now, seeing him with Tiana, seeing the way he looked at her, the way he touched her—it was like seeing a completely different person.

Hange nodded, a small smile playing at her lips. “And now he does,” she replied. “Now he has someone worth fighting for.”
Isaac looked away, unable to watch any longer. He had always prided himself on being strong, on being tough. But now, seeing Levi, seeing the depth of his love for Tiana, he realized he had a lot to learn. Future AI Computing: Samsung Launches 24GB GDDR7 DRAM. It sets the standard for graphics DRAM with its industry-leading capacity and performance of over 40Gbps.
First 24-gigabit (Gb) GDDR7 DRAM from memory pioneer Samsung was revealed today. Next-generation applications benefit from it’s speed and capacity. Data centers, AI workstations, graphics cards, gaming consoles, and autonomous driving will employ the 24Gb GDDR7 because to its high capacity and excellent performance.
“By introducing next-generation products that meet the expanding demands of the AI market, it will maintain to leadership position in the graphics DRAM market.” The 5th-generation 10-nanometer (nm)-class DRAM used in the 24Gb GDDR7 allows for a 50% increase in cell density while keeping the same package size as the previous model.
The industry-leading graphics DRAM performance of 40 gigabits per second (Gbps), a 25% increase over the previous iteration, is achieved in part by the advanced process node and three-level Pulse-Amplitude Modulation (PAM3) signaling. The performance of it may be further improved to 42.5 Gbps, contingent on the environment in which it is used.
Applying technology previously used in mobile devices to graphics DRAM for the first time also improves power efficiency. Power efficiency may be increased by more than 30% by reducing needless power use via the use of techniques like dual VDD design and clock control management.
The 24Gb GDDR7 uses power gating design approaches to reduce current leakage and increase operational stability during high-speed operations.
Major GPU customers will start validating the 24Gb GDDR7 in next-generation AI computing systems this year, with intentions to commercialize the technology early the next year.
GDDR6 vs GDDR7
Compared to the current 24Gbps GDDR6 DRAM, GDDR7 offers a 20% increase in power efficiency and a 1.4-fold increase in performance.
Today, Samsung Electronics, a global leader in cutting-edge semiconductor technology, said that it has finished creating the first Graphics Double Data Rate 7 (GDDR7) DRAM in the market. This year, it will be first placed in important clients’ next-generation systems for validation, propelling the graphics market’s future expansion and solidifying Samsung’s technical leadership in the industry.
Samsung’s 16-gigabit (Gb) GDDR7 DRAM will provide the fastest speed in the industry to date, after the introduction of the first 24Gbps GDDR6 DRAM in 2022. Despite high-speed operations, new developments in integrated circuit (IC) design and packaging provide more stability.
With a boosted speed per pin of up to 32Gbps, Samsung’s GDDR7 reaches a remarkable 1.5 terabytes per second (TBps), which is 1.4 times that of GDDR6’s 1.1 TBps. The improvements are made feasible by the new memory standard’s use of the Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM3) signaling technique rather than the Non Return to Zero (NRZ) from earlier generations. Compared to NRZ, PAM3 enables 50% greater data transmission in a single signaling cycle.
Notably, using power-saving design technologies tailored for high-speed operations, the most recent architecture is 20% more energy efficient than GDDR6. Samsung provides a low-operating voltage option for devices like laptops that are particularly concerned about power consumption.
In addition to optimizing the IC design, the packaging material uses an epoxy molding compound (EMC) with good thermal conductivity to reduce heat production. Compared to GDDR6, these enhancements significantly lower heat resistance by 70%, ensuring reliable product performance even under high-speed operating settings.
GDDR7 Release Date
According to Samsung, commercial manufacturing of their 24GB GDDR7 DRAM is scheduled to begin in early 2024. Although the precise public release date is yet unknown, this year’s certification process with major GPU manufacturers is already under way. With the availability of next-generation GPUs that will support the new memory standard, GDDR7 DRAM is now expected to be readily accessible in the market by 2024.
