Day One: School

I know this was long overdue but this was in my draft for so long and I'm excited to share with you guys that I finally finished it lol. Enjoy.

Strawberry jam biscuits. Levi knew that was Hange’s favorite. That was why he was here at the only baking supplies shop in town. He could easily get the ingredients in the supermarket, but tomorrow is special. What he requires were premium, high-quality ingredients.

He spent the whole night baking biscuits, and the whole kitchen smelled like vanilla and strawberries. Decorating was his favorite part; bottles upon bottles of toppings line the kitchen counter.

His little cousin, Gabi watched with silent interest, also immersed in the headiness of freshly baked biscuits and the swiftness of Levi’s hand as he sprinkled the confectionary. Her eyes light up as he chose the edible glitter, craning her neck, so she could see better. Levi grinned at the sight.

“It’s not even warm. Here –“

He bends down under the table and took out a flask and poured out a steaming hot coffee for her to drink. Levi even opened the lunchbox and revealed the yummy sandwiches he has made. He urged Hange to take one. She shook her head.

“I’m not hungry.”

Levi frowned.

“At least have a slice. It’s an important day, right?”

Hange stared at him and then nodded. She grabbed the ham and cheese sandwich, nibbling on it in silence.

“Drinks some coffee,” said Levi. He pushed the cup towards her, still staring at her intently. Hange almost smiled, she knew he was concerned.

Nodding again, she gulped some of the liquid and let the warmth spreads throughout her body. She sighed in content.

“Have another,” ordered Levi. He poured another cup and again watched her drink all of it like a hawk.

When the other members of the debate team came, Levi stood up from his seat and gave each one of them a packet of homemade biscuits as a sign of good luck.

“Oh, wow. You made these yourself, Ackerman?” exclaimed Jean Kirstein. He was one of the tallest members of the group, only a year younger than them. Jean shoved one of the biscuits inside his mouth and moaned loudly.

“Could you not?” said Pieck Finger, annoyed. “No one wants to hear you making sounds like a wild animal.”

“Really? Is that the best you could say to me, Miss Debate?”

Jean and Pieck argued with each other, back and forth while the team only watched with silent glee. They were so accustomed to the situation; they didn’t even bother to break them up.

“Where're my biscuits?” asked Hange, felt slightly jealous that others had them while she’s the only one who doesn’t. Remembering that Levi always does them himself with the occasional help of Gabi, Hange started to apologize.

“So sorry, I’m just asking. The sandwiches you made for me were delicious.”

Levi only smiled at her. Explaining that he would give them to her later when the bus come.

“I don’t want you to eat all of them at once, right now. Besides, you didn’t eat all the sandwiches, you only nibble the edge of it.”

“Ok,” said Hange.

Suddenly feeling hungry, she devoured the rest of the sandwiches. The bus came ten minutes later, and the chatter turned into excitement.

“Alright, no pushing,” shouted one of the chaperones.

All of them thanked Levi and complimenting his biscuits. He smiled and said “Thank you” in response. Hange looked at him in anticipation as he pulled out another plastic container from the huge paper bag, she didn’t realize he was holding.

“Eat them when you get hungry. It would be a long ride, right?” asked Levi.

“Yup, two hours,” confirmed Hange.

“Okay. So, break a leg,” Levi said awkwardly. He folded both of his arms against his chest and watch her reaction.

As expected, she gave him a bright smile.

“Thanks, see you when I get back.” She hurriedly got on the bus and sat near the window so she could wave him goodbye. Levi waved back with a small smile.

Thirty minutes in on the bus ride, Hange couldn’t help but be curious about what was inside it. From her left, Nanaba was busy chatting with the others. She had resisted looking inside the container because Nanaba knew about her crush on Levi. And Nanaba would not hesitate to tease her. Couldn’t contain it any longer, she excitedly ripped the plastic lid and forced herself not to gasp out loud.

How sweet of him. Is it normal to love someone even more? A smile curled on her lips as she stared at the pretty homemade treats.

Levi had taken the time to bake her strawberry jam biscuits. He knew how obsessed she was with them and would beg him to bake them every time she craved one. Looking around to make sure no one noticed, Hange took a big bite. She almost moaned with how delicious the biscuit was. How expected of Levi. The biscuits almost ran out before she noticed the paper material underneath them.

“Eh,” she whispered as she lifted it before revealed another set of biscuits. On top of them was a piece of a handwritten note.
