...better than Bonanza, I'm sorry. It's no dig at Bonanza. It's forever enshrined as one of the most influential and beloved TV westerns of all time, and for good reason.
But High Chaparral was better. The relationships were much more organic and believable, the issues were presented with respect, but realistically, too. (Bonanza was a bit preachy imo). The humor, in HC's earlier seasons, at least, provided a welcome balance, and kept the drama from becoming melodrama. (A theme that the Bonanza leaned way too heavily into, and its prequel, Ponderosa, went 'hold my beer' on. But Matt Carmody was a dreamboat so I watched every episode.)

Everyone who loves The Daltons should follow highchaparralsweden on Instagram. It’s a Wild West theme park in south Sweden with a few known Wild West characters, among them Lucky Luke and the Dalton family.
