I Greet You Solemnly in This Time of Grieving
Admittedly, I don't know what words of comfort I can offer, so I will stick to offering you knowledge of what has happened since the catastrophe.
None of the groups who fled were lost entirely, and though some suffered greatly, others made the journey with relative ease. At this point, the whole of the clan, what remains of it, has arrived in the Sunbeam Ruins.
The group lead by the Clan Father was the first to make landfall, and the children were all ferried safely across with assistance from Norn and Brightrose. Their cargo included Sunrise, Miscedence and Mamblory, Copernicus, Sphalerite, the unnamed son of Willow and Ashes, and Zo, heir to Lady Telos and Fragment.
The group led by Azricai was the second to arrive. Their group was also without casualty, but not without injury. Lady Azricai was attacked by an elder wartoad off the coast of the Driftwood Drag. Her life was saved, but her legs were seriously damaged and are currently undergoing major surgery to avoid total amputation. Haematica the healers tending her have already stated that even in the best case, Azricai will never walk unassisted again. Tungsten suffered a Maren attack that exposed her to one of the Tidelord's prophecies. The long-term consequences are currently the subject of guesswork. For now, she has mandated that a sedative always be on hand just in case.
The third group to arrive, led by Haematica, was the remains of those who fled into the Scarred Wasteland and persisted through the Tangled Wood. Some were simply naive and unaware, most were frightened and panicked, and a brave few dedicated themselves to guiding and protecting them as best they could. Peacetide, Chlorophyll, Willow, Rose, Ismene, and Rainforest all fell to the contagion. Elaidos, Obscura, and Riley vanished into the dark mists of the Tangled Wood, and have been listed as missing, presumed dead.
The group led along Trader's Walk by the Clan Mother arrived nearly unscathed in spite of being the largest group. An interclan feud broke out among beastclans during the final stretch of their route through the Carrion Canyon. Through Fletch's prayers to the Flamecaller and a valiant charge led by Equinox, the group was able to break through. However, due to the unexpected presence of Corven, Tawhaki was lost while defending the rear from lightning magic. He has been buried on a hill overlooking the Sundial Terrace branch of the Leyline Gardens.
The group led by Saber along the northern path arrived last. By their report, they managed to cross from Dragonhome to the Viridian labyrinth, but by then they were weary and tired and their supplies were drained in crossing the barrens. By some luck, they came upon a local clan in the Gladeveins where Goldoak had settled and become an elemental representative of high standing. She offered them food and proper shelter, and they accepted gratefully and told her what happened. She sends her condolences and well-wishes. The group lost Galette, Alluvium, and Cinnabar to harpy attacks early in their journey.
Ashes and Carnelian arrived independently. Lutia arrived after them with one perfect antler from Horizon's head in her hand and a skull on the end of her staff that Carnelian verified as belonging to Opal. The clan's reception of Lutia has been fearful so far, but also united in a grim gratitude toward her that she made Opal pay. This was furthered by Camellia, who exercised her necromancy for ill on this one occasion. She summoned his soul back into the skull and placed it on a pedestal where the clan was given permission to throw whatever filth they could at it. Dirt, mud, waste, rotted food. Anything that would dirty it. And to the enormous satisfaction of all, it could be heard screaming the entire time.
Faded made an appearance afterward, with Ascalon in their company. The spirit told the clan everything she could about how the events had unfolded. Including the genesis of Magdaer, and the death of Moss. Despite her large participation in the events, the clan could not clamor for her death. Ascalon was a spirit not even of this universe, bound by other rules, and after all was said, she was pitied more than hated. Faded rose when Ascalon's tale was done, some accord between them completed. They whispered some secret words in Ascalon's ear, and the spirit wore an expression of joyous relief for the brief moment it took for Faded to free her from our world.
That is all that has happened. Current news is as follows:
Camellia, as the Arcane Representative, made an edict. The Arcanist had taken his price from Fragment, Sliver, and the scion, in order to return Shard the Radiant to his rightful form. But the price for the infringement and the returning of the pact was higher still. The Shard dynasty had been re-committed to the stars when the words were spoken back, and so it had to end.
The records must die, the name and identity must be relinquished, and the dynasty must release its claim to power. As the dynasty had reigned for approximately 25 eons since Shard the Progenitor made the pact, so would they be barred from reign in the Arcanist's lands for 25 eons.
Shard and Luddie vowed to shed their identities when the materials to do so were available.
The Lady Telos has been given the mantle of ruler as she is the only one fit. Camellia blessed this decision as compatible with the Arcanist’s punishment, with the condition that Telos had to abandon the title 'Dynast-Queen' and that Zo could not take the title of ruler as he was Fragment's blood. Telos made it clear in return that Zo was a Xannite first, and would never have been beholden to the rites of rulership inherent to the Shard line. She also clarified that she would not be attempting to make the clan a component of the House of Xanna. Her intent is for the clan's new way to be completely exclusive from both traditions.
Her first edict has been to put out a call for Earth mages who can assist in construction. The clan's opinion of her at this time is mixed, but it is agreed that shelter independent of Feldspar and the Nebula Guild is a must, and that this is an excellent first decree. As the clan is unfamiliar with flatland and valley architecture due to life in the cliffs and mountains, outside expertise is required.
Camellia is independantly organizing a group that calls for experience, strength, and a certain amount of emotional fortitude. She would like to make a pilgrimage all around Sornieth to collect whatever remains of those lost and bury them properly at the foot of the Focal Point. So far, the group includes Carnelian, Maleficent, Kiele, Equinox, Brightrose, Sunlore, Norn, and Aloe. The last three have made it clear they intend to offer themselves to the Arcanist. Sunlore goes to be with his sister Maat, Norn to be with the Arcanist now that she feels that its best to let the genealogy of Clan Shard be lost, and Aloe simply doesn't want to be away from his homeland.
They are not alone in their desire to leave, as several others have parted ways to go to other clans. Zurvan parted to stay among friends with the Nebula Guild, where several other former members of the clan, or relatives of current clan members had also settled. Rime and Hypnosis were reported to have ended up together in the same light clan somewhere in the Sundial Terrace. Maragi has not managed to completely recover from her brush with contagion, and has already stepped down as the clan's lightning representative and stated her intention to retire back to the Shifting Expanse.
...Well. Faded insisted on phasing me through to the other side to be there so I could get you all a concise report. They said it was a key point in history, and that their power could flow freely around it to do so as long as they did not interfere. But now I have returned, and I cannot leave again. There is only Faded and myself to truly protect Auspice, and to move her would be dangerous.
I do not know when I will see you again, my clan. But the remains of the coven (as well as Dantalion) and those who weathered the events in Hibernal Hollow (Hibernas, Floe, Bruma, Cheese, and Acorn) are prepared to greet those who arrive with warmth.
You have my love and my loyalty, no matter what form the clan takes from here.
This has been the Omen Report.
