Hi I'm starting to draw and your art is inspirational and I was just wondering how you started? Have you always had a knack for drawing, obviously everyone gets better with time, but I just feel like I'm never going to improve and I wish I could draw decently? Do you have any tips (other than keep practicing), like any like 'tasks' to do to practice? Thank you!! (: xx
Hi! I’m really glad you like my art c: And here comes a loooong post!
tbh I’ve always been surrounded by art so when i was little I didn’t really like it, especially drawing. I did music, theatre, dancing but I didnt like drawing it just wasnt my thing, but when I was little like 5 I think my teacher read us The Little Prince and asked us to make a drawing of it and I did but for me it was just something i had to do but my teacher said it was the prettiest drawing she had seen so far and she wanted to paste it in the lobby of the school and from that moment i was sure i was the best fucking artist in the world but I left drawing the next day, as I said it wasnt my thing, anyway many years went by and shit happened that made me decide to watch different cartoons from when i was growing up and one of them i really liked the artstyle. During this time i was really into writing my own stories so i decided to draw my characters with that style and well as i saw more series then i found anime and i also lked some of the artstyle and well i just started studying many artstyles and searching for tutorials, I have a magazine that was my first step into drawing in a kinda anime style. here are some of the best drawings from my first sketchbook.

ANYWAY everyone around me said i was amazing at art and once again i was sure i was the BEST FUCKING ARTIST IN THE WORLD and my brother told me about this page called DevianArt and i loved it! i could see so many different cool artstyles and well i made an account (my first account as TimeClock) and that year I got my tablet, and I started drawing digitaly and well i kept studying different styles i got books about drawing comics and manga, I noticed i might not be the best artist ever, years passed and now we’re here!! c: thats the story of how I started drawing.
Now about the improving part, I know sometimes it gets really difficult and you see a bunch of amazing artists and you just thinkg “Im never gonna be able to do that” but I swear there is always improvement, you know how something you see an old sketch and you’re like OH GOD WHY MY EYES well thats because you improved! you can see your mistakes and work on them now but just by doing it you have improved! c:
About how other tips on improving, you might have seen that as I was growing up i was really confident in my art, and personally i think thats something really important, you can’t look back, you can glance back sure, see how you can improve more or how you have improved but DONT STARE AT IT, if you just looks back you wont move, or at least you will be moving slower than what you could because you will be only looking at how bad something was or how you made mistakes or how little improvement there was between some drawings, but if you look to the front you can see your chances, you can see new things, you can see a lot more and walk faster that way, you have to look for more things to study and learn from, not how to fix your mistakes, as your art grows the most of the mistakes will dissapear without you even noticing. Another problem i see often is people complaining about not having one artstyle but honestly having multiple artstyles is great! you can do so many more things!! you have the opportunity to continue studying different styles and as you keep working on it your artstyle will just magically appear i swear and sometimes you find one artist that will just help you grow so much, for example, there have been many artist ive studied and learned from but the one that helped me grow a lot as in A WHOLE FUCKING LOT was Steve Ahn, I just love his artstyle so much and i studied it a lot and it heavily inspired my current artstyle. So keep looking for those artists that will help you grow even if they dont know you. Search for classes, tutorials, speedpaints, and try them all! everyone has different ways of doing things and you will learn a lot from looking at them and by trying them all you will find the right way for you c:
AND AT LAST tasks to improve, get rid of your pencil, start drawing directly in pen and you will see how you start drawing faster and your sketches become cleaner. Dont be afraid of making a mess with your sketches, its a sketch it doesnt have to be clean. draw with random shapes, look around you, choose a shape and draw something with it, draw from real life, go out with a notebook and some pencils or pens and draw people, draw them moving, USE REFERENCE FOR EVERYTHING. and thats all I can think of right now c:
Sorry for this way to long post but i really hope it helps you anon c: and any other questions of specific stuff or whatever dont be afraid of sending me a private message and ill do my best to help, I can make you a tutorial or help you look for a good one
