I have a question!!! What would it take to get the more stoic boys (like Ell, Merc, Nemo, Vi and King—and anyone else you want to add) to crack a smile?

So you want to make the stony faces crack a smile, huh? An admirable goal!

I went ahead and picked out the most stoic skeletons I could think of, and the best way to get them to break and laugh for you—or at least grin…

King (Horrorfell Papyrus)  – He’s a tough nut to crack, but if you don’t happen to have a clever wit to banter back and forth with him, using your sharpest ripostes and most stinging barbs, physical comedy is actually your best bet. He’s a bit of a sadist and has just enough of a mean streak to always find it funny when someone falls, or walks into a pole, or really any other form of slapstick as a result of someone’s clumsiness or inattention. He generally has enough grace to rein his visible amusement in, but if you ever see some sort of petty accident waiting to happen, do point it out—or be the clumsy fool yourself, you just might see an undignified snicker.

Merc (Horrorswap Sans) – He actually has a great sense of humor and joy, so he does already smile quite a bit! Just…because of his condition, he has to keep in control of his emotions, so those smiles are small and slow and restrained, lest he feel too much and lose his handle on himself. That said, the element of surprise is crucial to winning the big and real reactions from him, catching him off-guard so he doesn’t see it coming and can’t mount an internal defense against it. Non sequiturs and unexpected punchlines work great for this, but are best used sparingly—both to keep the element of surprise at play, and to keep his discomfort from getting a little melty to a minimum.

Ell (Horrorswap Papyrus) – In spite of his often surly or sour mood, he’s not especially difficult to amuse. Probably his favorite thing, though, is anything that happens to be unintentionally funny—as in, something that was not meant to be comedic but, by circumstance or execution or some other factor, has just completely missed the mark and has worked its way around to funny. Really badly outdated special effects or especially hokey dialogue in shows and movies tend to work well in getting him to smile, but he’s liable to bark out a laugh for signs and billboards and such that should not have been placed next to each other, or if you share with him something stupid and out of touch that a celebrity or politician may have said.

Nemo (Horrorswapfell Papyrus) – He’s only deceptively hard to get a smile out of. He’s often anxious, or in guard-dog mode, thinking about things that could happen, and what he’d have to do in the event of X, Y, or Z, which has the Resting Bitch Face out in full force…but he’s far from a heart of stone. When he’s relaxed and comfortable, he’ll smile about pretty much anything, even just for it being a kind of nice day outside. …But if you want to see him smile even when he's not entirely chill, all it really takes is some kids, or maybe a funny animal. Seeing kids goofing around doing kid things, or a puppy dog up to some puppy type antics, he has a hard time not smiling for that.

Spectr (Transcendtale Sans) – He’s a very, very tough one, almost the poster skeleton for ‘nothing to smile about in my life.’ He’s definitely lost in his own existentialism a lot, or the opposite and trying not to think about more than what’s directly in front of him, which does make it pretty difficult to get a laugh out of him. Still, he can’t quite help himself when it comes to skeleton-based jokes and puns—it’s tired, old material, sure, but very comforting and familiar, and he likes to hear it. It’s not a guaranteed laugh if you hit him with some humerus wordplay, but he’s pretty likely to be smiling behind his mask, and even likelier to throw you a bone and respond in kind.

Tank (Underfell Fruition Papyrus) – With him, it’s a little bit like getting one of those palace guards to crack a smile—it’s not so much that he’s humorless, just that he’s (until recently) not been allowed to show a response…and as a related issue, he’s not at all familiar with social cues and doesn’t always realize a certain response is expected of him. Because of that, one of the best ways to get him to smile is to explain a joke for him, or just let him know that what was said was a joke. It’s easier for him to feel comfortable expressing his amusement if he knows for sure that he was meant to be amused, but as for a specific preference of humor… Well, he actually really likes skeleton-related puns and jokes, too! His brother used to tell them all the time when they were younger and since he wasn’t around long enough to use them to death those are very fond memories!

Vi (Swapfell Fruition Sans) – Now he’s the poster skeleton for ‘nothing to smile about in my life,’  and consequently, not very easy at all to coax a smile from. He’s too into the habit of keeping his most important and genuine feelings off his face to be fully comfortable smiling over just anything. If someone knows that something makes him happy, it can be taken away from him, after all. …But if whatever he’s smiling about is something vague, deprived of its context and mysterious to anyone who isn’t in the know… His fastest and easiest smiles are the ones that come from inside jokes, funny moments that maybe he didn’t laugh about at the time, but will freely grin and reference later with just a ‘YOU HAD TO BE THERE’ to anyone else prying for more context. He likes secrets, and the ones he can share with you are the most fun.

Bear: The purrs are loud with this one as your lips sweetly press against the little cracks and dents in his bones. At least, as long as you stay away from the gaping hole in his skull. It’s way too sensitive for your lips, not to mention, the edges are sharp. Bear would feel so bad if you accidentally cut yourself on it.

Don’t get me started on when you start to throw praises and doting on him with words into the mix, my will be man is a goner plain and simple.

Of course, in the beginning when you start to do this, Bear short-circuits and needs to process what you just did. But he will always accept any affection you want to give him. Only when you move on or leave Bear to his own thoughts do the intrusive little buggers start to plague him with insecurities.

They range from jabs at his conditions, his appearance and past. Trying to pick him apart and disprove all the praises and love you’ve just given him. Ever the stubborn man who struggles with it internally, refusing to burden anyone else with it, tries to push through it and ignore his thoughts. Which has never helped him at all - one would think he finally gets that it's not healthy or helpful behavior after so long of doing it and it backfiring in his face.

Luckily, Bean is observant and perceptive, knowing his dear brother like no other, helpfully nudges him open. (By playing the we-will-always-be-truthful-to-each-other-card…No one ever said that Bean doesn’t play dirty. If it helps his brother in the long run, he’s making use of it). And of course, it helps. Once he opened up to you about it and you two found a way to not trigger his intrusive thoughts - by spreading your praises and scar kissings throughout the day instead of all in one go - Bear will always readily accept any affections you give him.

Bean: At the start of the relationship - when monsters haven’t surfaced all that long ago - Bean noticed you had gotten way more affectionate towards him than you had been before. Which, of course, isn’t a bad thing; everyone is different and some people just get more touchy and lovey when in a romantic relationship. But it did lightly trigger his skepticism like a knee-jerk reaction.

Back in the underground…well, let’s just say that Bean has a good reason why he looks for meanings behind certain actions and behavior thanks to some who acted nice not out of the goodness of their soul or heart.

It’s not your fault of course, nor could Bean be at fault.

Just something from the past that Bean took with him to the surface.

You don’t have to worry however, he knows you well enough to know that you don’t have any ulterior motive with your affections. So for Bean it will be easy enough to push those reflexive skeptical thoughts aside, or rationalize them.

Once he gets used to it, he’ll return the favor. You want to kiss Bean’s scars? Go right ahead, while you’re doing that, Bean will place skelekisses on your marked skin. Tracing his phalanges sweetly over the dents and lighter or darker lines on your body, while he himself shivers slightly as your lips press against the cracks on his bones. It’s a very sweet and domestic quality time between the two of you. It becomes even better when either one of you had been having a tough day, building each other up with each tender kiss.

Bean cannot quite imagine a life without your sweet, sweet kisses. He treasures them and you deeply.

Rust: It’s a healing feeling that Rust at first didn’t know what to do with. He stood there, frozen while you kissed his scars. Trying to process what’s going on inside him and what you’re doing. There had been times when Rust stared at you with his sometimes unnerving unblinking gaze before asking “…why?”.

It’s a slow progress of him getting used to it, but it’s so worth it in the end.

Now, Rust knows and been with you long enough to know when you’re about to shower him in praises and kisses. To say he adores those times is an understatement. He wants to completely lean and sag against you as you nuzzle him. Whispering sweet nothings in his non-existent ear while you kiss every crack, scar and dent that litters his face.

But there’s a time that is his favorite when you decide to pamper him like this. And that is when the two of you lie in bed together, either when waking up in the morning, or going to sleep or just cuddling together. With you either snuggled up to his side or lying on his bare chest (yes he has shoved some pillows inside his ribcage to make it more comfortable for you. And yes it feels weird to have those things inside his ribs but anything for you, not that he would say it out loud.)

It feels warm, it feels intimate. The way you look at him in the eyelight, murmuring so sweetly as you stroke your fingers across his scarred ribs and bones. And you do without a motive, you just want to do this. Showing Rust love and care he had never thought he’d wanted, desired, craved or needed. And oh, how he needed and craved it. Your love is like a silky cloth that gets softly pulled across his bones like a gentle wave. It’s a liquid warmth that fills the cracks and mental scars putting him back together like one does a treasured vase with golden glue.

Thatch: Oh, oh gosh… Thatch doesn’t know what to do with this, honestly. His mind cannot really wrap around it? After all, how could he deserve such love from you that you just want to shower him with praises and kiss the cracks in his face and ribs? How is he supposed to function when you take his prosthetic arm and hand in yours and kiss the fingers and knuckles so tenderly? Never taking your eyes - that are full of so, so much love that he is undeserving of - off his own sockets.

You know of his past, he knows you do, he has told you himself that night full of so many tears and vulnerability. So Thatch can’t really grasp that despite it all, despite you knowing what he did, the monster that he is in every single way possible, you still hold him as if he deserves something. As if he deserves to be loved, that he deserves to be reassured.

You’re breaking him in even tinier little pieces, unraveling him at the seams, slowly but surely, until all that's left of him…and you’re putting him back together with such care and gentle hands and lips with every touch, with every kiss and words of praise.

It’s after a long time that Thatch slowly starts to be able to mentally accept the affections you wish to bestow upon him. And it’s after an even longer time that he manages to push the little voice in the back of his mind that whispers; ‘they don’t truly mean that, they don’t truly love you. It’s just pity,’ away.

After skele rocks his s/o's world in the bedroom, and he/she follows them around like a puppy with dreamy eyes, nuzzles and constant little touches

Uhhh ut, uf, hf, ht, annnnndddd fs gold

Sans: well sans is well known for not being a high energy monster. There isn’t much to follow since normally he conks out once he and SO finish lol. SO can get their nuzzles in through a cuddly nap. If he’s somehow still awake and gets to see SOs dreamy eyes, you’ll have quite the bashful bonefriend on your hands.

Papyrus: honestly same. Papyrus gets some serious post nut bouts of affection as well and will be equally nuzzly with his beautiful sexy thoughtful cuddly great smelling datemate! He’s chatty, and as SO follows him around, he’s singing their praises

Oak: oh he’s gone. Doing the horizontal tango with his SO works better on oak than any sleeping pill ever could. This boy is deep into slumberland right now. But there is a silver lining, oak tends to hold onto things in his sleep. Usually it’s just the blankets, but if SO positions themselves right, they’ll get to be a very comfy little spoon.

Red: yall red is a total horn dog. If SOs gonna give him all that affection right after the nasty, you can guarentee he’s aiming for a round 2. Or maybe a round 3 if SO can handle it ;). ….. no round 4. He’s not Superman lol. After that round 3 red is pretty much in the same state as SO now.

Edge: oh this strokes his ego so much. He’s preening at the proof that edge is the best lover! Of course his SO keeps sending him those loving looks! He did his datemately duty of making their life even better! He deserves a reward! Edge demands more nuzzles!

Rust: sadly he doesn’t have the stamina of his non-famine counterpart. Rust goes in for a brief round 2 and is pretty much done with life for the day. SO now has a tired and slightly achy, but affectionate and pleased datemate. At least with how sweet SO is, he’s sure he’s doing a good job.

Noir: oh he’s glad SO is so easy to read afterwards. With his limited.. mobility, sometimes he worries he doesn’t do enough to please them. A SO like this is very reassuring for noir. He indulges their nuzzles with lots of smooches in return.

Wine: and rock SOs world he did. Wine is one of the rougher skeletons in bed, so he’s rather impressed SO isn’t taking a snooze right now. He did give them a workout after all lol. Wine goes about his day with a soft smile, enjoying SOs antics. Sometimes when things are quiet, he’ll give SO a smooch and a teasing promise for more later ;)

Coffee: oh jeez, you’re killing him SO! The easiest way to turn coffee on is through praise or attention. He likes having his ego stroked lol. Coffee is so frustrated right now, and wishing he was a lust monster so he could act on what he wants to do again. Alas though! He’s been through exhausted for the day! He’ll have to settle with a lot of aggressive smooches until SO gets their brains back.

How would Hound and Pyre, as well as Mutt and Black, react to meeting someone who likes to touch people? Like patting your arm/shoulder when making a joke or giving hugs to show their appreciation. And would their reaction change if the skellies were in a relationship with this person?

Hound (HF Sans):

He’s sensitive around strangers

And by sensitive I mean hyper aware and aggressive

If a complete stranger were to come up and touch him he’d defiantly glare down at him.

Which is pretty terrifying considering he’s like 6’5 and has a sharp metal jaw. If it’s a good day, he might just shove you off and growl, if it’s a bad day for him then he’s likely to lash out

Which again you don’t really want considering he usually wields a giant friggin axe, even on the surface

Buuuuttttt if you’re his s/o or a highly trusted friend, he’s not gonna be so mean

Na, he might jump or growl a little, especially if you caught him off guard, but that’s just instinct. Hound doesn’t really mean it.

if he really likes you, you’ll get a tight hug back; and he’s not putting you down

Hounds an affectionate guy once you get to know him.

Speaking’s hard for hound so it can often be the only way to express himself

Pyre (HF papyrus)

Unlike hound, pyre has much more self control, in that he won’t flip you into a headlock the minute you touch him

But he’s definitely going to be disgruntled

If you’re a stranger prepare for your arm to be twisted very painfully as he loudly seethes about how disgusting humans are and how impolite they can be

Internally, pyres a little freaked out. The only person that he’s allowed to touch him in a long time is Hound

But if you’re in a relationship with him??

Okay he’ll still be a little disgruntled but he won’t shove you off,

Maybe still scold you, especially if you’re in public

Black (SF red sans):

Isn’t a fan of touch,

In the underground such casual touches either meant you were quite close or the more touchy person held more power and respect than the other

So he’s gonna see it as a slight

He’ll grab at your hand before it can even connect with his shoulder. Squeezing tightly enough to make you wince in pain

If your his partner then he’s a lot nicer lol

Black doesn’t like to say it out loud, but he does love physical touch.

He leans into your touch, just ever so slightly

If you tease him, poor black will be blushing so hard

Mutt (SF red papyrus):

He’s gonna be the one doing casual touches,

Even if your a stranger, and this is happening in the underground. Hell yeah he’ll wrap his arm around your shoulder or lean up against you

There’s not really a lot you can say or do to stop him. Considering he’s got Black for a brother and he’s pretty strong himself

He’d probably find it amusing if a complete stranger was so causal with him. It’s his job to make people uncomfortable!!!

If you’re in a relationship with him, he is eating that touch up!!

Seriously loves it, if you’re not careful he’ll end up pulling you into his lap for some nap cuddles

And then you’re stuck there until either he wakes up or black finally drags you off him

Bonus edition

Zerox+Emmy, Plum and Hearts

(Context: Zero and the trio meet after Z hears, while disguised, from some residents of the Omega Timeline that a new AU variant was destroyed, its skeletal brothers and MTT being the only ones who managed to be evacuated in time. The rumors surrounding these new inhabitants were… less than savory, and the tone with which other residents described their newest neighbors’ universe varied from disregard all the way to vile.

He pieced together the vague concept of the AU, then went to investigate personally under the guise of “welcoming a new neighbor”. What he found was along the lines he’d expected, 3 traumatized people who hadn’t even had time to mourn the loss of their world, nowhere near the confident, overly sexual beings everyone had chalked them up to be.)

Zerox takes care to introduce the brothers and M to O(mega)T(imeline) and multiversal culture, and asks what they would like to be referred by.

Papyrus chooses Plum, and Mettaton, after brainstorming a little with Papyrus and Zero settles on Emm(Emmy for friends). Sans, in sans-typical fashion, lets Plum, Emy and Zero decide. After arguing for a while on what increasingly weird nickname to assign Sans, they compromise with Hearts. (thanks to the outfit Sans had been wearing)

Zerox gets attached almost immediately to Plum and Emmy, and they quickly form a strong bond. They often have “self care” nights together, during which they do stereotypical things like eat ice-cream, watch cheesy horror movies and enact mayhem upon whichever asshole/s decided to wrong the brothers or Emmy that week.

Hearts and Zero have a more distant relationship in the beginning, through no fault of Hearts’. Some time after midnight, on the heels of a self-care night, they finally sit down for a heart-to-soul. Zero apologizes for his cold demeanor, sharing a limited summary of their history in their own AU with his respective Sans, and how it affects his interactions with ALL sans-variations. Hearts accepts the apology and admits that he was not all that sure about having a human-hybrid around either.

The two are able to move on from their biases over time, and grow to be good friends.

(Actually, Zero meets Dream through Hearts. It’s an event everyone involved regrets.)

Zerox+S

Zero and S meet through Nightmare, soon after the Guardian employs him.

Zero bothers the everloving FUCK out of S by asking a million and one questions about his homelife, “lore” and overall AU(including its political climate pre-deletion). Z is fascinated by S and his ‘fancy guy-in-the-chair’ schtick, although he doesn’t get much past understanding basic HTML and a few C++ commands.

As one does, Zero also subtly tries to radicalize S into being able and WANTING o demand better for himself.

S, for all of his initial dislike, comes to gradually appreciate Zero’s curiosity and company, though they continue to have minor fights, most of the time in good fun, about anything from flickering the lights on and off to more serios things like the morality on spying upon half the multiverse.

Ink+Dream

Ink and Dream met shortly after Dream is freed from his stone-y prison. They're allies first, united in their shared goal to protect the multiverse, and over time they become friends.

While they love each other, their relationship is not perfect, and there are still secrets and sore spots they struggle with.

Dream feels like Ink wouldn't understand the more somber, self-destructive angst-y parts of himself, choosing to hide them. While deep down he knows Ink is not the type to judge him for it, he can't make himself share his struggles after a lifetime of keeping up the Forever Steadfast and True Guardian of Positivity mask.

His escapes from obligation come in the form on cigarettes, people who don't know(or care) who he is and indulging in the only piece of his real brother he has left: his books(or, more accurately, what Dream remembers him reading)

Zero's apparent betrayal is another heavy hit on his conscience, and following it he throws himself into helping Core with building the Omega timeline and finding quicker ways to intercept Nightmare and Error's attacks.

Ink struggles a lot with his memory, and how awful forgetting makes him feel. He tries to hide his emotions from Dream by only drinking positive paints, unless the situation calls for him not to, but it ultimately doesn't help his anxiety.

Ink feels that his job, besides being the Protector of the Multiverse, is being the comic relief, along with downplaying his genuine fear at being so forgetful at times as just being quirky and somewhat of a klutz.

His coping mechanisms include, besides clowning himself, painting his favorite things, moments and people, helping Core build what needs to be built for the Omega Timeline(most often to his own detriment) and seeking out adrenaline inducing experiences(strong emotional reactions help vivid memories take root).

Ink+Blue

Ink meets Blue while fighting (alongside Dream) against Nightmare, Killer and Dust. Blue insists on defending his home and takes on Dust, freeing Ink from the barrage of attacks. Ink, Dream and Blue win the battle, and Blue expresses his desire to be part of their team and save others.

Ink accepts Blue into the team readily, but Dream is far more reticent to. Ink helps Blue argue his case to the Guardian, and he relents at last.

Ink and Blue's friendship is immediate, and Ink shows his new friend the Center just a few weeks later(which Dream disapproves of).

Blue is able to see underneath the layer of masks Ink wears and help him open up, and in turn the Protector offers Blue support in his journey to emancipate from his limited role in his au and expand his magic ability to include multiversal travel

Blue is the one to come up with the name "Star Sanses", inspired from an au occupant they saved, claiming that the group was " a little light in all the darkness surrounding us".

Dream+Ink

When Blue first asked to join him and Ink, Dream almost said yes on instinct. He'd been so tired, he hadn't slept the night before and he'd known they needed a new teammate for some time.

But this was a mortal. Moreover, a mortal from a perfectly whole au. He had everything to lose and nothing to gain. He couldn't let the pressure build on the shoulders of someone whose light didn't NEED to be dimmed.

Eventually, he relented. It's a choice he regrets every time Blue gets hurt.

But he does like Blue. He has a vibe to him, as if he just Knows things... and he does.

A few months into being proper friends, Blue manages to get the Guardian talking about it. The pressure, the expectations... the ways he forgets about it.

Blue reciprocates. He tells Dream about his childhood, taking care of Papyrus alone, feeling the weight of the world and faking a smile until it didn't have to feel fake anymore.

They often have "team dates", where they go lay on the soft grass of the Center while playing board games, or, after particularly hard days, just sit in silence, cuddled up under the tree.

Good morning! I read your yandere post and I was thinking, hmm idkkk, I can't imagine a situation where skeletons like vanilla, blue, and nsb papyrus would become yandere 🤔 they're just too adorable. maybe even Edge and Black too since they have a degree of level headedness and pride that could prevent it from happening. everyone else... pretty fair game 😏

But my main question is, if a prank war were to break out, who would you place money on them losing first, and who do you think would win?

HLF Papyrus (Wax)- because he's not challenging anyone, he's fading into the background to let everyone else duke it out before taking out the last few. He's got a nice level head, he's not over confident or too lazy, and that gives him a big advantage.

Shouts of laughter rose above the hum of the approaching tractor as it pulled another group back to the start of the trail. Monsters and humans waited patiently in the boarding line as returning children rushed past, hurrying off the ‘hayride’s’ trailer with their parents ambling after in varying states of fond exhaustion.

A couple nearby were taking photos, laughing almost as giddily as the children while they situated pumpkins around their terrier dog in his little matching costume. Others stopped to watch them in curiosity or amusement before turning back to their own tasks, be it heading to the farm’s shop or making their way to one of the vendor stalls.

With the scent of cooking sugar and damp soil mingling on a slow, crisp breeze, the scene could’ve aptly been described as the very essence of October. Or at least as he’d come to know it in his time on the surface.

Horrorswap Sans - It's extremely hard as Nugget is absolutely not friendly to humans. You're going to need a lot of persistence and honesty, as if you're lying or hurting him once, it's over forever. He's going to realize eventually he's acting like a jerk to you and maybe try to make some effort to be nicer, but it's not going to be immediate.

Horrorswap Papyrus - Just being nice to him and treating him normally, like he's not disabled and in a horrible state. He's aware his story is tragic, but he's tired of being considered only like that. He wants to do fun things with his S/O, not being asked constantly if he's alright. Of course, being there through the bad days is important too, as he still has a lot of them. Pumpkin trusts pretty easily, other than that.

Horrorfell Sans - He likes funny people that don't remind him constantly of his past. Copper wants to take a new start on the Surface, so trying to learn about him now without trying to learn things about his past is the best. He'll tell you in time, just not now. He doesn't trust easily, though, and he's still a little bit of a jerk when he realizes the relationship is going well, just to see if you're going to flee or not. He's not that hard to get as a friend once you understand he's all bluffing and no biting.

Horrorfell Papyrus - Patience and perseverance. Chief is going to be wary as soon as he's realizing you have an interest in him, because why the hell do you want to get closer? In his world, these types of things lead to treason and premature death, so he's a bit scared you're going to betray him at his most vulnerable moment. But the more time passes, the more he's lowering his guard, even though he takes little steps back when he becomes aware he's opening up to you. If you're still here for him during one of the bad days, he might give up and dump everything on you out of nowhere because he just so desperately needs someone to talk to and that he can trust.

Swapfell Sans - All it takes is to come back to see him several times a week for 1. Nox to realize he's upset when you're not coming. 2. Nox to realize he's actually looking forward for these small moment and 3. Nox to realize he actually likes you. It's going to take some time, as he's really slow, but you can make him come out of his angry little shell, a step after the other. The day you manage to make him laugh, you have won.

Swapfell Papyrus - Learning his routine and meeting him to the spots he's showing to: the trash areas behind his house, the bank in the park to prank people and McDonald's. With time, he'll realize all by himself he's kind of sad when you're not here, until one morning you find him waiting in front of your door (how the hell does he know where you live???) and excited to go to his favorite spots with you. And then he does that every morning to be sure you're coming.

Fellswap Gold Sans - Being brutally honest with him and show displeasure when he's an asshole. Wine is tired of people saying yes to everything he says because they're scared of him. He's going to try to scare you off too, but as soon as you resist, you'll see the most flabbergasted expression on his face. So, the thing is, he's not going to be happy. But also he's super happy and excited about it? Because now he sees you as someone worth playing with, even though it means he's going to be even more of a jerk lol. It's just his love language.

Fellswap Gold Papyrus - Look at him all serious for 10 seconds until he frowns in worry, and then smile at him and watch as his entire face illuminates. Here you go. He's your friend now.
