OC-tober Day 5: Relationships
Despite being raised by his grandparents for much of his early childhood, Jayden and his mother are very close. Jasmine didn't have the financial means to care for him on her own at the time, but she made sure to visit as frequently as she could. By the time canon happens, Jayden's been living with her full-time for about 6-ish years.

Honor Bound faces
I was asked about Honor Bound face casting, and while most of them aren't fully "accurate", here are some of them:
Fiore - although the male version isn't anywhere near as close to Fiore in my mind as the others. Maybe I should just embrace Hamza Yassin as a possible facecast...
Korzha - though the female version has longer hair than Korzha does and isn't muscular enough...
Raffi - these all fit pretty well in my head
Savarel - again, these all fit reasonably well to me
Denario - I like Jay Hernandez for him, I think, but I'm not sure who I'd pick for the younger versions of Denario...
...and I never found anyone that really fitted for Matia, though who knows, maybe one day.

August September LGBTQIA book list.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now quick disclaimer: I moved during this time. Very stressful. So maybe that’s why I have so many dropped and disliked books. I’m going to give these quick reviews in a specific order of would recommend to mehhh only if you are that type of person. I don’t give spoilers this is just a taste. I am lesbian who is 30 so that also colors my perception of these stories. Only going to include pics of the top 5 to drag you in for easy screenshotting.
Okay Let’s go.
1. Somewhere Beyond the Sea by Tj Klune 🏳️‍🌈👨🏼‍🍼👬🔥🏡⛓️‍💥 okay once again when I take over the world House in the Cerulean Sea and Somewhere Beyond the Sea will be required reading I didn’t think the follow up book to one of the best books in the modern age about feel good found family foster family could get any better. But I was proven wrong. The sequel gives you all you need. You can tell the author felt the pain of our world as he wrote this but the children and characters give those stories life. I cried I laughed. There is nothing quite like it.
2. The Spirit Bares It’s Teeth by Andrew Joseph White 🏳️‍⚧️💕😱🩸👁️🐰 You know what I am putting this one as 2 because despite it making me have countless panic attacks because I’m not fond of… gore? Horror? I adored this book still thinking about it. The romance is 10/10 T4T. I adored the mystery and intrigue. The main character is autistic and very anxiety ridden I can’t describe to you how this book will change you. Although approach with caution.
3. The Disabled Tyrant’s Beloved Pet Fish Vol2. 🏳️‍🌈🐟🤴🏻🤣 mild 🌶️ on a completely different note the “IS THAT MAN IN LOVE WITH A FISH” is a treat that always surprises me with the amount I love it. Maybe I am trash crazy but I find this funny easy to read and in this second book we got even more time with the fish and his prince actually in human shape. The miscommunication trope is strong with this one but so is consent and romance. Idk I just fucking love it. I want the prince to become emperor with his fishy lover haha.
4. The Name Bearer by Natalia Hernandez 💃💐🏳️‍🌈👩‍❤️‍👩💜💜 Okay quick disclaimer here the book is an classic style fantasy journey it is slow. However I really loved how beautifully thought out the universe was it’s a latinx woman forward book. The romance is not the point but it feels very natural which I appreciate. Main character might even be ace spec. There are great side characters. I really love the apprentice wizard but WARRIOR NUNS!!! Hehehe also things seem to be not what they seem which is always cool. I’d definitely suggest this to any fantasy lover.
5. Grandmaster of Demon Cultivation the comic vol 1-3 🏳️‍🌈👬🪄🪦💀🫏necromancer evil wizard is reincarnated into his nephew’s body years after his death. Or is he evil? Or is he 🏳️‍🌈? Hahah yes he is. Anyways in the present he’s finding the consequences of his actions while his…. Love interest is going to make sure nothing happens to this version of him. You slowly get the past. I find the comic is the easiest way to consume this fantasy story. Yes there is anime, book, and a Netflix series and a new Japanese manga is being released but I like this one. 🤷🏻‍♀️
6. Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire 💜🪦🚪 about a school for those who come back from other universes and long to go back. Main Character is probably ace spec. Very interesting fantasy book for someone who consumed a lot of fantasy as a child. Thought it was also very thoughtful book. I had fun it’s not super surprising or new ground but I enjoyed it for a quick read.
7. Spell Bound by FT Lukens 🏳️‍🌈🐈‍⬛🧙‍♀️🧑‍💻 well it’s YA. Out of the other FT Lukens books I semi enjoyed this one. The characters are still dumb as rocks and the setting could use some more fleshing. But it’s okay. For a fun quick read that semi reminds you of urban fantasy? It’s good. The side ship found family was a little forced but I enjoyed the side characters.
8. Psalm for the wild built 💜🍵🤖🏕️ it’s a chill cozy book for people who are over worked. I’d say if you want scifi it’s not. It’s closer to fantasy. Very short and preachy.
9. Casefile Compendium vol2 by Meatbun 🏳️‍🌈🩸🌶️🚩🔍🐉🥼 Danmei Murder mystery modern times age gap. Does have 2 chapters of non consent and absolutely off the wall opinions about the medical industry.
10. Otherworldly by FT Lukens 🧚‍♂️🏳️‍🌈🥶❄️ YA familiar escapes fairy world finds a skeptical person decides they’ll def fall in love and make a deal. I listened to 50% the characters are intensely idiotic and just…. So so so blind. I couldn’t do it. The skeptic is a person who moved to the city for their family but they do stuff for their family without really caring for them I’m just not buying it. The familiar is infact a psychopath or so low iq he doesn’t care to live or feel or observe anything in 5 years. So so so stupid. Omg.
I had several DNF
I made my parents listen to Ocean’s Echo by Everina Maxwell in my mission to make my parents less homophobic. My mom enjoyed it. My dad said it was way too gay. 😩 man I wish it was way too gay.
What am I reading next? Hummm idk yet. Suggestions are always appreciated!!!

"When You Cross Pinochet With a Cyberpunk Dystopia…"
by Kevin Carson (November 9th, 2024):
"…what do you get? Answer: “Special Little Freedom Zones.”
That’s what Reason’s Liz Wolfe calls the Honduran “charter cities,” officially known as ZEDEs  (Zones for Economic Development and Employment), which were declared illegal in September by the Honduran Supreme Court (“No More Special Little Freedom Zones,” September 25). The ruling prohibits the creation of new ZEDEs; its effect on existing ones, like Próspera, Ciudad Morazán, and Zede Orquidea, is as yet unknown.
Wolfe describes such charter cities as “special economic economic zones that are still bound by criminal law but able to create their own civil codes.” And again: “they get to set their own laws and regulations and typically choose to create more business-friendly conditions with less taxation.”
Reason — and more specifically Reason’s Brian Doherty — has been shilling for these “special little freedom zones” since not long after a right-wing coup regime came to power in 2009. Doherty quotes an article Bryan Caplan wrote for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation:
“A charter city begins on empty land,” he said. “It can only grow by voluntary migration of workers and investors. If no one chooses to relocate, they’re no worse off than they would have been if the charter city had never existed.”
But that so-called “empty land” bears some looking into. Honduras, Lauren Carasik writes at Foreign Policy — like many other places in the Third World — has long been characterized by irregular or informal land titles not legally registered or recognized by the central government.
Ortiz says that he has resided on the land in the community of Playa Blanca on Zacate Grande Island, off of Honduras’ west coast, for decades. The problem is that he doesn’t have a title to it, leaving him no recourse to the wall. His quandary is a common one: approximately 80 percent of the country’s privately held land is either untitled or improperly so according to a 2011 USAID report.
Writers like Hernando de Soto have argued that this lack of formal legal title, and the certainty and predictability, the ability to legally protect titles and enter into contract, that go with it, are a major reason for continued underdevelopment. De Soto sees the formalization of informal land titles as an important step toward prosperity.
The devil lies in the details. There are two ways to formalize customary or informal land claims — from the bottom up, and from the top down. Consider, for example, the 17th century English “land reform” after the Restoration of Charles II. As Christopher Hill argued, Parliament could regularize titles from the bottom up by abolishing feudal titles, fees, and rents and formally recognizing the peasant cultivators as the legal owners of the land they occupied and worked. Or, acting from the top down, it could instead abolish the feudal obligations of the landed classes and the customary rights of their peasant tenants, and transform them into fee simple owners, i.e. landlords in the modern capitalist sense — thereby turning peasant cultivators into simple tenants at will with no right to the land. Unsurprisingly Parliament — overwhelmingly dominated by the landed nobility and gentry — chose the latter course. In Christopher Hill’s words, “feudal tenures were abolished upwards only, not downwards.”
Interestingly enough, leftist president Manuel Zelaya — the one who was overthrown in the 2009 coup — had, prior to his overthrow, been working on a land reform that would have regularized peasants’ informal and customary claims to the land they were working, and given them formal legal title. That wasn’t the kind of regularization the landed oligarchy of Honduras — any more than that of 17th century England — wanted.
President Hernandez, who was swept into power by the coup that overthrew Zelaya, approved the charter cities project. With the peasant occupants of land coveted by the ZEDE merchant-adventurers in possession of no formal legal title, the land could be treated as “unoccupied.” Carasik continues:
Zacate Grande Island, where only a few campesino families have title to their land, is a window into exactly what that process might look like. Though under the ZEDE law residents whose land is expropriated are supposed to be repaid, the majority of the island’s families lack the legal documents necessary to support claims for indemnities. And without legal and financial resources, Zacate Grande’s campesinos are unable to contest their evictions by establishing their long-term possession of the land.
So, while neoliberal advocates of charter cities wring their hands over “weak institutions” and the need for “rule of law,” ZEDEs’ predatory promoters have in fact taken advantage of those weak institutions in order to loot the commons for their own ends.
On top of that, while densely populated areas will be allowed to hold plebiscites as to whether or not to be incorporated into ZEDEs, sparsely populated areas like rural villages which border on ZEDEs will have no legal defense against being absorbed by them.
Another aspect of ZEDEs that doesn’t meet the smell test: Although Wolfe says the charter cities get to create “their” own civil codes, the actual “they” is the enterprises located in the zone; it’s investors” who get to choose the legal system they’ll be subject to. Although the great majority of people living within these “charter cities” will be workers, the owners of enterprises — owners of capital — are the only sources of political authority governing the regulatory framework and civil law.
So we’re talking about a “free market utopia” authorized by a right-wing coup regime, built on land stolen from peasants, with “property rights” created through robbery, and where the majority of the population lives under a system of laws which their employers had the only say in making. Now, that might sound like “economic freedom” to a Hoppean, or someone for whom Snow Crash sounds like an ideal world. But to the rest of us, it sounds like something else."

Hi!! For the ask game, perspective flip of andriel reunion in new kings??
New Kings AU | Unusual Fic Asks - Closed
Neil had really only meant to stop by the Hernandez house to let his coach know that he was back. It was like the man was bound and determined to keep him there and a part of him feared that Coach Hernandez had called the Ravens since he had pushed so hard for it before Neil had run away from Riko Moriyama's offer.
He'd had a meal at the Hernandez house and after Mrs. Hernandez had insisted he'd laid down in the bed of the room they had shown him but he had barely slept. Every noise woke him up too nervous that the Ravens would come and take him away in the night if he let himself really sleep.
He'd pushed through longer stretches of minimal sleep.
He'd push through this.
He just needed to make it to when the Foxes came. Just needed to make it until then and then... Neil swallowed.
He could go to something that was sort of like home. He threw his bag out of the window and it felt terribly reminiscent as he crawled out of the bathroom window to drop to the ground below. His ribs ached and he wished that Lola hadn't gotten those shots in before he had blown her to pieces.
He hears the screech of a car and feels his heart in his throat.
It's not Riko Moriyama stomping towards him.
It's...
"Drew?" he asks because there's no reason for Andrew to be here right now. But maybe...
Neil watches Andrew's face go through an entire ocean of emotions. It feels like he blinks and Andrew is slamming into him at full force. It's painful but the pain is easily eclipsed by the relief he feels as he feels Andrew's hand slide into his hair. He wraps his own arms around Andrew and clutches the fabric of his shirt.
"Abram." Andrew whispers into his ear before his face is pressed into Neil's neck and he takes a deep breath.
Neil's knees buckle at the name he's only ever given to Andrew.
Andrew supports him on his way to his knees. "Are you okay?" he asks because at this point Andrew is medicated.
"You're here." Andrew says as if it were an answer and considering Neil's own state right now he supposes it is. Andrew kisses the top of his head.
"I'm here." he promises and Andrew pulls him into his lap and pulls him back just enough to look him over. Neil regrets that he didn't take the offer for a shower or to have his clothes washed now. He can see his poor state in Andrew's growing frown.
Andrew's eyes come to his hair, "I fucking hate your hair." Andrew hisses but presses his lips to it all the same.
"I know." Neil smiles
"I also fucking hate your eyes." Andrew hisses but again presses his lips to the corner of Neil's left eye.
"I'll change it all back. I promise." Neil swears and the laugh promise comes with sounds like it hurts but his relief has it bubbling out of him anyways.
"It's good to see you Neil." Wymack's voice comes from above and Neil is struck dumb because....he looks to Andrew who nods before he looks back at Wymack.
This was their Wymack. The one who cared about them. The one who pieced Neil back together. The one who gave him a second chance. He's alive in front of Neil right this moment and if Neil wasn't so opposed to the idea he would consider letting go of Andrew to hug his college coach.
Instead he manages an awkward smile, "Hello Coach." he greets.

So This Is Love
Pairing: rockstar!joel miller x actress!reader
Author’s note: this came to me in a fever dream
Summary: A Beach Day [1.5k]
Warnings: time jump kinda (Sam is 17 and the girls are 13), me giving Dina and Jesse last names (Caradonna and Pierce) because Neil Druckman couldn’t, Lucy is Tommy and Maria’s daughter 🥸, family life, fluff
Tumblr media
If there's one thing you've realized about your family, it's that they love nothing more than a beach day. Sam will almost immediately ask when you're going to the beach when temperatures get past the eighties. His follow-up question is always, "And can Penelope's family come with us?" Because it can never just be a Miller beach day, it has to be a Miller-Hernandez-Garcia-Long-Caradonna-Pierce beach day. As the kids have gotten older and your lives more hectic, it's nice to have a chance to get away every once in a while. Sarah, Ethan, and Isaac will drive in from Sacramento, and Ellie, Dina, Jesse, and JJ will meet you guys there since they don't live far from you, Joel, and the kids. Joel and Ryan inevitably become pack mules because they refuse to let you or Carolina carry anything, and you've both learned not to argue with them.
That's what today has consisted of. You, Sarah, Carolina, and Maria sit in the sand as you watch your husbands unload beach chairs, towels, coolers, sand castle molds, and more. It took Sam all of ten seconds to break into Fun Uncle Mode and start a game of football with Isaac and JJ, Penelope, and Lucy joining the boys. Elizabeth, Victoria, Sophia, and Violet sit in a circle with supplies to make bracelets and whatever books they're reading at their feet, gossiping just out of earshot of their uncool parents. Ellie, Dina, and Jesse have given up on arguing with Joel about helping to unpack and have settled on wading through the water, splashing each other when they're not looking. They make a sweet little family. Unconventional, sure, but loving and amazing, nevertheless.
Once the Hernandez-Miller-Long boys unload all their stuff, they join the football game Sam started, in which nobody keeps score because they're all laughing too hard. It's fun to watch Joel and Tommy play on separate teams, the sibling rivalry coming out just enough to entertain you and Maria. You would think Joel would slow down or get tired faster than he used to, but something about the summer sunshine makes him twenty-five years old again. He goes from playing football and playfully tackling Isaac to teaching JJ how to surf, holding his hands as they stand on the board together, to bounding over to Ellie in the waves, picking her up, and throwing her in the water. "Mom!" She complains when she breaches the surface with a big smile. She laughs when you throw up your hands to let her know you can't control him.
All the moms end up running around with sunscreen, water, and snacks to make sure nobody gets neglected, no matter who they actually belong to. You once joked with Carolina that, at this point, you basically have a commune of parents who take care of all the kids. Jesse will send birthday cards and money to the twins on their birthday. When Elizabeth got too drunk at a college party, she called you instead of her parents. Not because she didn't trust them but because she knew you'd pick up the phone even though it was two in the morning. And when Sarah gave birth to Isaac, you, Lucia, Maria, Carolina, Ellie, and Dina descended upon her home to take care of the laundry and dishes, prepare food, and ensure Sarah and Ethan slept. It's like having a huge family without the drama or strained relationships.
After Joel has all but run himself ragged and the sun is casting purple and golden rays across the sky, he pulls you onto his lap, and you sit with him as you watch your kids. Ellie, Dina, Jesse, and JJ sit nearby, munching on sandwiches and listening to JJ's latest science fair project about space. Sarah and Ethan build sand castles with Isaac, and Ryan, Carolina, and Victoria nap together in a too-small beach chair. The only ones still up and being rowdy are Sam, Penny, and the twins. Sam is trying to teach Penny how to throw a baseball, and the twins are surfing along the coastline. The sound of the waves and the heat from Joel's body makes you sleepy as you rest against his chest, his hand drawing patterns into your thigh.
"D'you have fun today?" He asks quietly as he kisses your temple.
"I always have fun at the beach with you."
"Cheesy," he shakes his head, and you slap his chest. "You can't even get mad at me 'cause you know that was cheesy."
"You married me for my cheesiness."
"No, I married you for the money. Obviously." He says, and you laugh. Penelope and Sam's laughter overlaps yours, and you both turn to see them leaning against each other with big smiles. Sam's eyes twinkle familiarly in the sunset as he looks at Penny again, holding up his baseball.
"Be serious about this! When I go pro, you're gonna be the one to throw out the first pitch!" He urges, and she rolls her eyes.
"If you go pro, you'll have much bigger things to worry about than me throwing out the first pitch." She teases, and he raises his eyebrows, hiding the baseball behind his back and stepping into her. You'd have to be fucking blind not to see the way they flirt with each other.
"Oh, yeah? Like what?"
"Like controlling your roid rage."
"I'll have you know I've never done steroids in my life!"
"You're still young, Miller. I give it three years."
"You think that little of me?" He asks and collapses to the sand dramatically when she nods. You laugh, and Joel adjusts so your ear is by his mouth.
"They remind me of us." He whispers, and you furrow your brows as you face him. He smiles sleepily and reaches out to push your hair out of your face.
"How so?"
"Other than the fact she just called him 'Miller,'" he says, and you smile. "'M not sure. He just... seems lighter around her. And they're always together. They have their own little language and dynamic. Not to mention, anyone with eyes in a twenty-mile radius can see how hopelessly in love he is with that girl."
"I thought you married me for my money."
"I mean, that was a plus, but I married you 'cause I couldn't imagine spendin' another moment without you as my partner and 'cause I wanted to be with you every day," he says as he kisses your jaw. "'Cause I was and still am hopelessly in love with you." You take a deep breath as you wrap your arm around his shoulders and lean back to look at him in all his sunburnt nose, heavy, happy-eyed glory.
He's aged in the years since you've been together. His hair is a little more gray than brown, and the crow's feet at the corners of his eyes have deepened through late-night feeds, early-morning school drop-offs, tours, movies, albums, everything. You've aged too. You're not the same twenty-something you were when you met Joel, but you love this version of yourself. You love this version of your marriage and family and can't wait to see what joy the next version will bring you. You lean down and kiss him. He tastes like sea salt and beer and him. His beard scratches your face, but his hands on your skin are soft and heavy. You remember an old song from the original Cinderella film. She hums it after meeting her Prince Charming and goes home utterly in love with him. You swear, if this moment were a shot from a movie, that song would play over this moment.
"Cheesy." You mumble against his lips.
"Oh, that was cheesy?" He asks, and you hum. In one movement, he secures you in his arms and stands. You squeal and hold onto him for dear life as he starts walking through the sand. "I'll show you cheesy."
"Joel!" You yell as he walks into the cold water and dunks the both of you under within two seconds. You don't see or hear it happen through the salt water in your eyes and your laughter, but your family rushes into the water after you—all of them. Ryan picks up Carolina, Ethan picks up Sarah, Jesse, and Dina work together to grab Ellie, and Sam picks up Penny, and they all run into the water. The kids follow suit, and before you realize it, all your favorite people are in the water with you, laughing and smiling as they cling to each other amidst the waves. Sophia jumps on Joel's back, and he goes underwater with all three of you as the sun sets overhead and the moon slowly appears over the cliffs. You're shaking from the cold and clinging to Joel, but you can't stop smiling. There's no place you'd rather be than here, freezing in the water with your family as the sun sets on another perfect Miller-Hernandez-Garcia-Long-Caradonna-Pierce beach day.

Cuba, 1958
In the aftermath of the Battle of Santa Clara on 31st December 1958, Batista’s soldiers had become little more than a rabble, fleeing hither and thither, seeking to save their own lives. They surrendered to any rebel sympathisers they came across. Melba Hernandez was one such revolutionary who was surprised to encounter a dishevelled Corporal Manuel Santos, desperate to give himself up to anyone - incluso una mujer - as the soldier gracelessly told Melba, as she walked cautiously along a country road. The lifelong member of The Movement simply tied Manuel’s hands tightly behind him and then marched him unceremoniously to the nearest detachment of rebel soldiers. “Take this whining macho of my hands, comrades,” the woman said to the smiling men as she pushed her bound prisoner towards them. “He is truly pathetic.”

Magnum PI (2018) S1
Tumblr media
To get it off my chest, in the first season there were two things that really bothered me. First, how much of a mooch-off Thomas was. I would've thought that in today's day and age, that would have been a big no-no. It really bothered me how much he was using his friends. Not that he wasn't always willing to help them in return, because he really was, but! When your friends actually keep telling you again and again how it bothers them that you take them and their generosity for granted, you shouldn't just laugh it off and do it again right away.
The second thing that bothered me was that Higgins was better. at. absolutely. everything. Magnum was a Navy SEAL, for cryin' out loud, yet Higgins out-ran, out-shot, out-fought, out-insert-whatever him at least twice every episode while rubbing his nose in the fact that was a useless idiot. Why was Magnum actually needed in this series? And no, my objection has nothing to do with Higgins being a woman and everything with the hero of the story being portrayed as a bumbling nincompoop who can't wipe his butt without Higgins showing him how. That's just bad writing.
And now to the good stuff. Jay Hernandez. What a man. He was so awesome as Thomas Magnum. Only his instant likability balanced out all the mooching that Magnum was doing. If portrayed by a lesser actor, I'm not sure I would've liked Magnum. But I really believed Jay Hernandez that his Magnum was a good, honest, sweet man.
And also: Rick. In the OG, I didn't like Rick. He always felt sleazy to me. But in the reboot, he's my second favorite character next to Thomas. The way he carries his heart on his sleeve, the way everyone likes him and wants to help him, the way he cares about women in general, the gentleman he is, the way he cares about Magnum! Yeah, lovely.
My favorite side-story? Shammy, the wheelchair bound veteran, and the way Rick and TC connected with him. I wish the series in general explored the fall-outs and consequences of being a veteran more. I mean, they had been POWs for 18 months and it was actually barely mentioned. So to see at least some of that portrayed in Shammy? That was so good!

Wrong Choice of Words
When cornered by PDI officer Helena Hernandez, Miguel soon regretted his big mouth. “What’s your problem, babe?” he asked expansively as the young policewoman approached him, a wolfish smile spreading across his face as he took in her shapely nyloned legs. “Can’t we talk it over?” Helena did look momentarily flustered by the gangster’s smooth tones but, frowning, she continued to advance on her quarry. “I have reason to believe you are in charge of a major drugs operation, sir,” she told the leering older man, “I need to ask you some questions.” Miguel laughed out loud. “Sheesh!” he grinned. “Don’t get your pantyhose into a twist, cutie! It’s not the time of the month is it?”
He had barely finished speaking when the young woman sprang, panther-like, on him. Within seconds, Miguel found himself in a double armlock. “Ok, ok,” he cried out, grimacing in pain, “wrong choice of words!” Helena did not reply; she simply handcuffed Miguel tightly behind his back. “Let’s go, asshole!” she ordered, pushing the sullen looking man forward. The pair stepped out into the brightly lit street, the bound gangster wondering wryly why the younger female generation just didn’t seem to possess a sense of humour…

Note
I find it hard to believe that it’s the freedom ending. If Chaz’s words are to be(e) believed, then every core pulled out is a person killed. From there it’d be hard to go to VVR2, since Butter’s headsets show people like Elon still alive. There’s two ways to merge, either through accepting Chaz’s offer and losing the fight. I’d feel it’s likely to be the former, since both the aforementioned people still living, and I don’t think the employees of Activitude would be particularly happy about working with someone who killed their peers. There’s also the fact that the freedom ending was also called the murder ending in either the alpha or beta, though it may not matter since it didn’t make it to the finished game.
I’m pretty sure it’s said somewhere that Eliza was brought over to Scottsdale? Like Hernandez, although I forget where it’s said. I guess that means she’s dead, with the whole deletion.
I personally don’t agree with the whole coin flip SOMA thing. The Board made copies of the citizens before the shutdown, which would mean that the originals experience the shutdown while the copies would only have the memories up until around the announcement. I also feel if it was like that, there’d be less panic, and despair and more hints to such. There’s also confirmation of a soul of sorts, with Gavin’s body and all. As for Bee, that may just be because Bee is inhabiting an avatar, kind of like with all of those Chaz in the ping pong(?) room. It would also kind of make Marty’s whole speech somewhat invalid, which I don’t think the game would make.
Also, fun fact! Cryogenic freezing would destroy your body just as much as the other choices. It would destroy your cells, as the water inside you would freeze and expand. Of course, we don’t know what other advancements the world in VVR has made, but since all other options seem like a final goodbye to the body, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the same.
I enjoy talking about vvr with you, so I hope this doesn’t come of as negatively argumentative.
I'm sensing no negative arguments here lol ^^ but I can break down some of these arguments.
Like if you start removing cores chaz starts sounding quite desperate to have you merge, now this might be because merging will stop you from destroying everything but at the same time if you merge with every core but one removed or you don't remove any core and just let him merge you at the start all the same characters are there and bee is still allowed to do work, which makes me think that death might not be the same in virtual space and they're fine working with a murderer after maybe a few tweaks to some base programming.
I mean in either ending we basically murder Hernandez but in vvr2 he's up and kicking, so it's possible that as long as chaz is online there's ways to bring them back. A bit of temporary murder. As for the reset ending I do find it difficult to determine if it could be cannon to the second game. There might be ways to frame that narrative but the more I look at it the more unlikely it seems.
I do think bee deserves a little murder though, as a treat.
As for the soma thing, in soma the humans kinda decided that the humans in the machine were no less them than they were, and thus it was kinda like a coin flip, heads they'd be in the machine, tails they'd still be outside. Then the humans would "Rig the coin flip" by entering the machine, having their minds copied over, and then as soon as the copying was finished they'd kill themselves in a weird philosophical mentality of maintaining continuity. However this is just a philosophical standpoint, one I'm sure the AI would have been on board with if deletion were instantaneous and not a slow, drawn out apocalypse.
I'm not 100% sure what you mean by the revelation of a soul via gavin's body? And the bee interpretation seems a bit weird, like bee's inhabiting an avatar, which then gets destroyed and then they just... rubber band into chaz once they're no longer bound inside of that avatar? I mean you could possibly make an argument for that but the tone shift made it feel a bit more serious from my perspective.
And as for Marty's little speech about them being upset because the humans trusted them and now they're being murdered, it could all be a bit of digital philosophy that also comes with the idea of copying an individual. I mean the original and the copy are no less real from eachother, both feel real to themselves, and so murdering one or the other is still a terrible thing to do even if there is a backup. Kinda like murdering a twin I guess.
Now onto Cryogenic freezing, when you pick that option the techs actually tell you that the particular option chosen is actually unavailable because no one ever comes back, which implies that there's the option to come back but since everyone chooses cryogenics "Just in case" they've probably got way too many bodies. So I think Cryogenics are a viable option in this universe.
An few equally fun facts about cryogenics though are the facts that there's a type of frog that can secrete a chemical that freezes the frog very slowly and instead of developing sharp ice crystals the frog produces more rounded ice crystals, which allow it to stay frozen 8 months out of the year. Research is being done to see if this process can be applied to humans but may take several years of testing and tweaking.
Also, it's sometimes suggested that one of the first ever microwaves were designed to help thaw out cryogenically frozen hamsters, because the previous method of warming them up with red hot spoons did work, but it also caused serious burns. The hamsters could survive having up to 60% of the water in their body freezing and still come out basically unharmed. This is why I sometimes fantasize about colony ships where humans are sent out in space to explore the cosmos, but instead of humans the people on the mission just transfer their minds into that of hamsters and we get little intergalactic hamster astronauts.
