THE RIOT OF SPRING

It started a riot in a Paris theatre 105 years ago today, according to legend. The premiere of LE SACRE DU PRINTEMPS (The Rite Of Spring), a collaboration between IGOR STRAVINSKY and VASLAV NIJINSKY, has gone down in history as the most notorious artistic debut of the 20th century. Both the musical score and the choreography shook the traditions of their respective fields.

Stravinsky's music subsequently underwent various revisions, and eventually came to be regarded as one of the most important and groundbreaking orchestral works of modern composition. Nijinsky's original vision of the ballet, on the other hand, was soon forgotten; however, it was reconstructed more than seven decades later, to great acclaim.

Multi Facet Fables presents a tribute to this extraordinary work, featuring: a BBC dramatization of the 1913 premiere; several versions of the full orchestral suite, including four conducted by the composer; a variety of entertaining articles; excerpts from the controversial Walt Disney take on the music; a tribute by Plunderphonics master John Oswald; interviews with Stravinsky; and five contrasting productions of the complete ballet.
