Most Different Herbal Therapy Uses
Most Different Herbal Therapy Uses
Most Different Herbal Therapy Uses Using herbs for health Some herbs can help in maintaining youth and health by the action of their chemicals on our bodies. Some of the common herbs used are Ginkgo Biloba, red clover, soy, bilberry, blueberry, and chaste berry. Ginkgo biloba is used to slow down memory loss due to aging. It is also used to improve blood circulation. This property may be the reason why short-term memory retention is improved as the brain cells receives a good supply of blood and nutrients and retains its working capacity. By this strength, the eyesight, hearing and mental capacity are also greatly aided. However, patients consuming aspirin or other blood thinners should avoid ginkgo Biloba as it may interfere with their medications. Red clover and soy have phytoestrogens. This is the plant equivalent of estrogen. It works, in the same way, to protect the body against old age diseases. However, these herbs do not carry the risk of side effects like cancer in the uterine. They are good for treating menopause-related symptoms. Red clover is available for consumption in the form of capsules. Soy can be enjoyed in soymilk, tofu, miso, lentils, chickpeas, and flaxseed. Bilberry contains antioxidants that neutralize dangerous free radicals, thus preventing damage and disease in the body. These berries, together with the blueberry and huckleberry, also contain flavonoids, which can reduce hypertension, inflammation and allergic reactions. To avoid self-medication or over-dosage in supplements, try to eat fresh fruits instead. This may be the most natural way of fighting to age as the antioxidants in these berries help to prevent oxidation or wrinkling of the skin due to the action of the free radicals in the skin cells. The antioxidants also work in the brain to protect it from the harmful action of free radicals. This protects the brain from degenerating with age. An alert brain keeps the body functioning properly and is the best investment you can make for your body. Chasteberry is also known as Vitex This herb is good for treating symptoms of menopause like mood swings, hot flushes, and night sweats. This is because Vitex acts on the body to manufacture progesterone, which corrects the hormonal balances in the body. Vitex can also reduce premenstrual breast pains. When the symptoms of menopause are treated, the patient does not suffer and she definitely feels better and younger. Herbs are natural remedies but are equally potent as they contain chemicals. If you are on other medication, you may need to get clearance from your doctor before you do any self-medication with these herbs. Instead of spending a fortune on beauty treatments, why not spend a little on herbs that can help you stay healthier and younger? Using Herbs to Heal
Herbs have been used to treat common disorders for thousands of years. Many still rely on potent mixtures for everything that ails them. In recent years, the production and usage of herbal therapies have more than tripled, and it's estimated that more than eighty percent of the population subscribes to some form of herbal therapy. Even traditional medical doctors are beginning to agree with what herbologists have been saying for years: Herbal therapy does work. Herbs can be made of any number of ingredients, including bark, berries, roots, gums, seeds, stems, and flowers. There are just as many ways to utilize the benefits of herbs, as well. You can make a preparation in your home from fresh or dried ingredients or buy pre-packaged pills, powders, teas, and infusions. WHY TAKE HERBS? People have begun turning to herbal therapies more and more because they produce very few (if any) side effects, unlike traditional medicine. Herbal therapy is also consistently less expensive than its medicinal counterpart. This is not, however, an endorsement against traditional medical treatment. Both herbologists and doctors agree that a combination program (when dealing with serious illness) is still the best form of treatment. INTERACTION WITH OTHER MEDICINES Just because herbs are made of natural ingredients does not mean they're one hundred percent safe. Much like traditional medicines can interfere with one another, so can herbal products. Those on MAO inhibitors should be especially cautious of or avoid taking St. Johns Wort, Licorice, and Passion Flower, as there are known adverse reactions. As always, it's best to consult with your doctor before beginning any new treatment program. DOSING Always pay attention to the label or product instructions. "More" is not better. It often takes only a small amount of herbs to heal what ails you. Do not over medicate yourself. Herbs can be toxic in large doses, just as traditional medicine is. ALLERGIES If you suffer from hay fever, asthma or allergies, it's often best to consult with an herbologist or doctor before beginning an herbal therapy. Allergy concerns (especially in bee pollens and with certain roots) are just as prevalent as with traditional medications. COMMON HERBAL THERAPIES
There are literally thousands of herbs on the market that can heal a variety of minor illnesses. Your doctor or herbologist can guide you in the right direction. ALFALFA: Has been used for centuries to heal allergies, arthritis, morning sickness, peptic ulcers, stomach ailments, and kidney toxins. Alfalfa is considered a cleansing herb. It neutralizes acids and is an excellent blood purifier and thinner. Alfalfa is a safe, non-reactive herb. ALOE vera: Beauty creams and lotions have been reaping the benefits of aloe for years. It is a common sunburn reliever, skin softener, and protector. Taken internally as a juice, however, aloe can also alleviate constipation. Aloe is used to treating acne, canker and mouth sores and heal burns. It can be applied directly from an aloe plant if desired. CAPSICUM: More commonly known as Red Peppers, capsicum is a proven healer. Even though it may burn your mouth on pizza dishes, it is widely used to reduce fevers, heal ulcers and calm digestive system disorders when taken in larger doses. CHAMOMILE: Is another cleanser. It tones the digestive tract and calms nervous stomachs. Chamomile can be made into a soothing tea or taken internally in pill form. It is readily available in many name brand vitamins today. ECHINACEA: Is one of the earth's strongest antibiotics. It's used to fight infection, colds, and flu and is a proven lymph system enhancer. Now sold in popular cough syrups and drops, echinacea is already widely used by the medical community and can be taken in a variety of forms, including chewable tablets. GARLIC: Another natural antibiotic, garlic is praised by millions worldwide for its healing properties. Garlic is extremely effective in dissolving and cleansing cholesterol from the bloodstream. It also helps to stimulate the digestive tract. It kills worms and parasites and harmful bacteria. Garlic will help to reduce a fever, eliminate gas and put an end to cramping pain. It's used by athletes for strength and energy. Garlic oil can be placed directly into the ear of a child as a treatment for recurrent ear infections. Widely known and used, garlic can be crushed by hand and ingested or purchased in capsule form (which has fewer side effects and odors.) GINGER: Is often used by pregnant women to combat morning sickness. It's also used by travelers to prevent and treat motion sickness. Providing a calming effect, ginger works wonderfully on all major digestive disorders, flu aches, and pains and can also help increase stamina. Ginger tea can be made at home by slicing off a small portion of ginger and placing it in a boiling kettle of water. GINSENG: Now commonly found in many household vitamins, ginseng has been providing increased endurance and vitality for years. Considered a mental and physical stimulant, ginseng is the "caffeine" of the natural world. Gota kola: Known as "brain food," gota kola helps to alleviate fatigue and tighten up memory problems. LICORICE: This isn't your father's licorice. Sold as root or pill, Licorice helps to expel mucus from the respiratory tract, making it an excellent treatment for minor cold and flu symptoms. Licorice is also used to treat stomach ulcers, hypoglycemia, and constipation. PEPPERMINT: Will help to calm an upset stomach and when taken with ginger, provides an excellent cure for heartburn, indigestion and most digestive disorders. Using plants as therapy Plants provide us with oxygen in the day and freshen up the air as well as beautifying the environment. Plants can be used as a form of pet therapy as they have therapeutic value. In the United States, horticultural therapy is used to help the disabled and patients of mental illnesses. This is because gardening or caring for a pet plant can reduce stress. The heartbeat slows, the breathing improves and all this over-rides us with calmness. This makes plants the ideal desk pet for management at work. You can start your plant therapy with a single plant in a small pot placed at your desk or at a corner of your office. If you work a 5 day week and don't want to bring home your plant for the weekend, choose a hardy plant. That way, it can endure a thirsty weekend before its next drink of water on Monday. are good indoor plants. So are cacti. You can get ideas for decorating your pots and potted plants at nurseries or from horticulture books and websites. If you like, your plant can be dressed up according to the colors and ornaments of the festive seasons to cheer you up in the office. Hang your decorative ornaments on your plant just like you would on a Christmas tree. Plants are an addiction They grow on you. The more you potter around them, the more you'll enjoy taking care of them. Seeing the plant grow may inject you with fresh energy and vitality. It is also satisfying to see the fruit of your labor flourishing under your green fingers. Plants help to remove stress by giving you an outlet for you to vent your anger and frustrations. You can talk to your plant to let off steam without hurting anybody. If you feel like pulling your hair in frustration, try pulling off the weeds or dead leaves off your pet plant. The repetitive actions of weeding burn off your nervous energy and leave you calmer and more able to cope with your life. You may want to graduate to cultivating plants at home in the house, or in your garden. Gardening is an exercise that's enjoyable, mentally stimulating and fruitful too if you grow flowering plants or fruit trees. Active gardening like digging and weeding provides healthy exercise to burn off calories and keep chronic diseases at bay. When you learn to handle the frustrations of gardening like weather changes, plant diseases, weeds, and insects, you are actually building your own strength and confidence to handle the stressful conditions in daily life too. Plants require daily routine care like watering, sunning, pruning and weeding. This responsibility makes you disciplined and gears you up to handle more tough and responsible jobs in life. If, by any chance, your plant dies, don't get discouraged. You can learn from your mistake and take the courage to start all over again. It is a form of therapy for you to overcome your fear of failure and start again. A new plant will give you fresh hope and vigor. The plant will nurture your patience when you exercise patience in caring for it. Plant Therapy will benefit you as it grows on you. amzn_assoc_placement = "adunit0"; amzn_assoc_search_bar = "true"; amzn_assoc_tracking_id = "gardensnurs0b-20"; amzn_assoc_search_bar_position = "bottom"; amzn_assoc_ad_mode = "search"; amzn_assoc_ad_type = "smart"; amzn_assoc_marketplace = "amazon"; amzn_assoc_region = "US"; amzn_assoc_title = "Shop Related Products"; amzn_assoc_default_search_phrase = "Herbs"; amzn_assoc_default_category = "All"; amzn_assoc_linkid = "724241cfa75722c02dd90670e9544978"; Follow us: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || ).push({}); Read the full article
