Not sure if I would be intimidated or turned on by Risotto Nero's tall height and combination of black scerala and red eyes.

I think the black sclera and red eyes are a bigger factor of attraction to me than the height. Maybe it's just because I'm too tall to really get that height difference kink aspect out of it, sadly... But also because his eyes look like he's gotten them done professionally. They look dyed or tattooed... Though it could be that he's born with those eyes, or even that his stand somehow affected his eyes. Can you imagine being in a room that's brightly lit by the overcast daylight coming in from broken windows in the newest hideout, and he turns to face you with those eyes? Piercing, calculating, and hauntingly beautiful.

There comes the idea of Risotto giving you matching eyes... Tattooing your sclera to the same inky blank as his. Whenever you're left to your own devices while Risotto works, should you be allowed to roam the hideout, or if you manage to escape, then your own reflection will remind you of him.

And any complications from the procedure, such as blinding you, will simply make you less independent. Leave you more vulnerable to his attacks, as you can't hope to know where he is, or if he's even in the room with you. Circling you silently for hours like a shark, waiting for the moment you let your guard down enough for him to take a test bite.

The intense heavy stares Risotto will give you will be burned in your brain, something you'll always see, regardless of if you actually can. And if that isn't intimidating, it's at least beautiful.

This is silly but… how tall do you headcanon kakuzu to be? Canon has him at 6 feet, but that he feels so much larger

Yeah, the databooks have him at 185cm (6'0" — 6'1") which isn't short but seems shorter than it should be, given how tall he looks in context. But if you assume much of the elemental nations has an average height the same as Japan, which is where the databooks were written, then that's (around) 5'7" for men if you ask wikipedia. So by that metric, he is pretty big — around half a foot taller than average.

But I agree, he looks like he should be bigger than 6' to me, haha. Mind you, Kisame is only 195cm in the data books (6'4" – 6'5") too...

I think it's better not to sweat the details like this though. All these characters have the weight of starving models according to their databooks pages, too. Just write them to feel instead. 😌

first off, i will acknowledge that visually, in the show, their heights are always a tricky thing. i've been referencing a bajillion screenshots since i came upon this thread. their comparative heights change in like every screenshot, due to camera angles and/or where they're standing relative to each other. we never get to see all five (5) of them standing shoulder-to-shoulder, side-by-side, in a single straight line, with an eye-level camera shot*.

i'll also acknowledge that i've always just gone off of what wookiepedia says, because it's the closest to an 'official' source that we've ever had -- but it's still not the official source. Here's the wookiepedia version, btw:

and you know what? depending on what screenshot you look at, these can both seem right. sometimes, Tech looks as tall as Crosshair; other times, Tech looks close to Echo's height. (Tech is also rarely at full height -- he's usually got his head and shoulders bent down to read his datapad. i think he slouches too.) i also find Hunter's height varies a lot too, depending on the shot.

Personally, i will be following the wookiepedia version. i think the starwars.com numbers are way, way off. (Warning: here's where the ranting part begins lol)

that all said, i think the height for Omega is correct... for Season 1**. but S2? and now in S3? she's definitely grown a bit.

so i guess if i had to come up with my own numbers, i'd go primarily with the wookiepedia data, with a few tweaks...

(i will hold onto Short King Hunter with a death grip until i die. even though i'll admit he looks reg/Echo height in a lot of shots. but i just really love the idea that's he's juuuust under 6' !)

**My headcanon is that in S1, Omega was approximately 10 years old. (which would match with starwars.com data, since average height for a 10-yr-old = 127-137cm.) i'm assuming we're at least 2 years later by S3, so she should be 12, which should put her height at 140-162cm.

i think in the show, they're keeping her closer to 140cm, but i'm equally onboard with her being on the taller side, closer to 162cm. i like the idea that she will eventually grow to reg clone height of 6 feet, thus she'd be on the taller end of "average" child height.

*there is one singular screenshot i came across which might be the closest. however, it's only properly showing the OG four -- Echo is in the shot, but disproportionately in front of them. it's also from their pilot in Clone Wars S7, which arguably was just a beginning stage for them, and changes were made before their own show aired, including the animation style/models.

it would explain where many of us got our idea of Tech = Crosshair same height. but Hunter is also nearly as tall as them?? certainly not 180cm lmao. so idk. take that as you will.

Why Short Sirius Black Mattered to Me

So I'm having some feelings about the whole "sirius black is tall" discussion that's circling my dash right now, and I don't want to comment on anyone else's posts with my *feelings* because it really doesn't relate to the actual factual information they're sharing, but I did want to put them out there.

At first I felt pretty defensive about how angry people seem over people headcanoning Sirius as shorter than Remus, and I am still taken aback by the level of anger/frustration being felt about this whole thing by some. But I am also a very logical person so I read the posts and I mean, the "sirius black is tall" people are not wrong. It is canon that Sirius is tall, I just read @pommedeplume's post about it that really laid it all out well and with the canon sources (thank you for doing that, btw), and yeah, it's just true. Sirius Black is canonically tall.

But I'm still finding that I feel hurt by the discourse around it (namely, the animosity toward the "short sirius black" idea), and I wanted to flesh that out a bit -- not because I'm trying to tell someone to change their thoughts/opinions/feelings, but just because, maybe this will offer some insight into why short Sirius Black is fanon and means something to some people.

I didn't always imagine Sirius as shorter than Remus, but personally, since returning to the fandom after transitioning to a trans man, I started imagining him as 5'10" (~178cm) or so and Remus as 6'1 (~185cm) or so, mainly because I started reading fics about Trans Sirius Black and they were just so...validating. Trans men try to make ourselves feel better about being shorter and not having dicks by calling ourselves "short king" or "tiny dick solidarity" or whatever, but frankly, it's incredibly dysphoric, especially as a gay trans man. It's intimidating and sucks to know that most of the guys I am attracted to and want to be with will be 5-7 inches (13-18cm) taller than me.

So there was something about picturing Sirius Black, who I already relate to as a person, being able to contain all of his big personality, all of his attractiveness, all of the things about him that make him so Sirius Black in a body that was simply an average height for a man. Not even my height! Just a height that didn't make him feel cosmically out of reach from me. And, really, that's often the driving force behind something that becomes fanon -- a thing that makes the character more relatable to the readers. Because 6'2" (188cm) Sirius Black is not a trans man (I mean, obviously some trans men are that tall, but...clearly that is VERY rare), and doesn't feel like he could be a trans man. And as someone who is a minority and doesn't get that representation ever, it's nice to feel like there are small things about the characters you love that mean that maybe they could be like you, too.

What I'm trying to say is - I think that short Sirius Black came from the queering of the marauder fandom, which as an older queer person who only recently came out, is really cool to see. I definitely don't agree with all of the fandom interpretations of characters that have come from this queering (i.e. femme sirius), but I'm also just...not gonna tell people how to view this character who might be helping them feel more safe and proud about their own identity. Short Sirius Black makes me feel less shitty about being a short guy. And seeing everyone be really pissed at the idea that Sirius Black is imagined by some people as short...hurts. At the end of the day, I know it's about just wanting to stick to canon, and I get that. I am that way about a lot of things. I just wonder if we can be more understanding of why people might be clinging onto what they want to believe is canon. Because I'll be honest, I'm disappointed to have read that it really is canon that he's a tall guy. I'm gonna change how I picture him and Remus (flip their heights basically), and I'll live. But I wonder, at what point can we say that sticking to canon is less important than letting people feel represented by their interpretation of a character?

Well, “abnormally small character with abnormally big weapon” is a very popular trope, as well as “small and angry”, “small and feral”, and “small and deadly,” I’m not sure with qsmp, but in the dsmp Tubbo was the only one to have nukes (I think, idk if quackity did or not), and he was the shortest in the main groups he was apart of (clingyduo, beeduo, and benchtrio), as well as being dubbed a menace(affectionate) by the fandom (being flirty, making fucking nukes in a universe that previously had little to no modern technology, and being generally chaotic), and thus followed the typical trend with fictional characters: character is not canonically tall > character is either a menace (affectionate) in canon, or has been dubbed one by the fandom > character is made into Small Feral Gremlin trope.

Or it could be as simple as he’s not exactly short irl or in canon, but he is the shortest of whatever group he’s being depicted in, so he has been made Smol for composition purposes. For example: since ranboo is typically depicted as around 9ft due to being an enderman, anyone depicted next to him is going to look short, but if its fanart of two average/above average people next to each other, and you want to get the message of one being shorter than the other, even if its not by much canonically, you’re likely going to exaggerate the proportions a bit, so someone who’s 185cm becomes 190, and/or someone who’s 179cm becomes 170-175cm, bc you get the message across easier and it looks better

Before you ask, Kira, part3 Dio and Kars are the only ones with canon heights. For the others, I used a mixed of context clues and my personal headcannons.

My (totally interesting) reasoning for phantom blood Dio, Diavolo, Doppio, Pucci and Valentine below (spoilers for part 5 and 6, read at your own risk):

Part1 Dio: he's portrayed as quite tall, but I like to keep Jonathan at the tallest (195cm) so Dio gets at least 6 feet (185cm) which is a lot, but not ridiculous like Jojo

Diavolo: I saw somewhere that he is 6'4 (192 cm) and also in the few illustrations he is in, he towers over Doppio, so we can assume he is quite tall

Doppio: He's supposed to be in the 170cm range (5'7+) and I actually headcannon him as the same height as Kira or even shorter. BUT! I made him slightly taller for the sake of comedy. Because I think I'm funny. And I am.

(Also, I'm including Doppio in the main villain group because he and Diavolo are technically the same guy)

Pucci: So Weather Report is supposed to be pretty tall, and since they are twins, I made Pucci tall (but less) to match him

Valentine: Tall for a man of his time but not to a ridiculous degree. Also 180cm is a pretty number (5'11)

3. What is something that was never addressed at all in the canon material that you have independently developed for your muse?

While not completely unmentioned, I do have some very specific height hcs for some of the book characters based off of how they are described. Lupin himself has been very consistently described as a man of average height, so... hello google what is the average height of a french man in the 1900s → 165-170cm.

For reference,

Lupin III ranges from 167 to 179 cm

Kuroba Kaito/Kaitou KID is 174cm

Persona 5 Akiren/Joker is 175cm

I settled on ~170 cm as the default Arsène Lupin height just because it’s funny if the two most famous, Lupin-inspired lil phantom thief upstarts are just a smidge taller than the original Lupin.

As for the other book characters...

Beautrelet (described as “very tall” by another full-grown man while Lupin was described as “middle height” by a woman) → at least taller than Lupin so 171-175cm

Béchoux (“Pale-faced, he was tall, skinny...”) → again, at least taller than Lupin so ~175-180cm

Blonde Lady/Clotilde (”a tall, thin woman”) →  ~175cm

Ganimard (”little old man” “little man”) probably shorter than Lupin so ~160cm

Josephine (one of her predecessor/mother/or maybe it was her all along was described as ”tall, slender and beautiful”) →  probably ~175cm

Sholmes (”tall, smooth-shaven”) also based off of canon Holmes who is at least ~185cm

Point is, there’s a lot of tall people here, Lupin is surrounded by people taller than him. Source: Me. I declare it’s true.

I do have a particular AU that I think a lot about but this post is getting long and this is a duplicate question so! Here’s a shorter idea/concept:

AU where Barnett (Lupin) + Béchoux + Beautrelet end up working together, also known as the 🅱️etectives!AU. What will they do, where will they go? On to a crime scene of course!

In which only one of them is an actual, authorized detective who has to nervously cover for his two parasites. Meanwhile, the two aforementioned parasites skedaddle off in the background, doing nosy detective things, detective-ing their way into places they don’t belong, as totally legitimate detectives should.

How tall do you think Harry was at the beginning of each book (in canon)? I personally think Harry was 6’2 by deathly Hallows. He was described as having a huge growth-spurt between books 5 and 6. Well, the books always said he was quite tall by DH so I think in the first book he was small, maybe around 160cm, then by book two maybe 164cm, by book three he's had a noticable growth spurt so maybe 167-170cm, then in Goblet of fire again a noticeable growth spurt so 175-179cm, then in Order of the Phoenix 180-182cm, and by HBP I would say he's hit his height at 185cm.

Tallest is definitely Bhatair, since he’s a giant. He’s still a kid, though, so he probably isn’t much taller than 7′ (~213cm).

After him is the Incubus King, who only gets to be extra tall because of his horns. He’s probably something like 6′ 10″ (~208cm) with his horns, and about 6′ 4″ (~194cm) without. If we’re counting Manannan as being part of G24, he’d be around there, too.

Vayne would be the next tallest at 6′ 2″ (~188cm). If he and Talvish are canonically the same height, that would be a hilarious slap at Vayne being designed to be a rebound for the Milletian. But in my head, Talvish seems to be slightly shorter, at around 6′ 1″, or a solid 6′ (~185cm).

Next is Caswyn, same height or just a little shorter (~184cm). I’ll say Sera is also around here. 

Cethlenn is 5′ 10″ (~178cm). Fodla has the bad bitch energy to be on par with Cethlenn and I think she’d be pretty cool standing up to that fussy child at the same height. And even if she was shorter, she’d wear heels to make up for it. So let’s say she’s 5′ 7″ (~170cm) without heels, and 5′ 10″ with heels.

I feel the same with Pihne and I think she’s about 5′ 8″ (~173cm) and Avelin is 5′ 7″ (~170cm). Marleid is also 5′ 7″.

Piran, Altam, and Murielle are about the same height, 5′ 5″ (~165cm). Llywelyn, 5′ 4″ (~163cm). He also almost definitely wears insoles or heeled boots.

Deirbhile is 5′ 2″ (~157cm) with Eirawen. Shortest is Tani at around 4′ 6″ (~137cm).

Final count from tallest to shortest: Bhatair, Incubus King, Manannan, Vayne, Talvish, Caswyn, Sera, Cethlenn, Pihne, Fodla, Avelin, Marleid, Piran, Altam, Murielle, Llywelyn, Deirbhile, Eirawen, and Tani.

Anime only watchers, I’m so sorry if you get confused, especially with so many fanarts already depicting them with different height difference. Maybe some are just headcanons, but it shouldn't be for Buccellati’s gang, because a long time ago, in the late 90s when Vento Aureo (Golden Wind) manga was almost finished, their height had already been decided by Araki.

Now that the manga already established their height a long long time ago, what the heck the anime changed everything?? Here’s my thought though, I’m indifferent with the height of some characters, Fugo and Mista’s new heights are alright, Giorno’s new height (+3 cm) is welcomed because he is Joestar. Narancia’s being 170 cm is fine. Abbacchio and Trish stay the same. My headcanon of swole!Pesci and smol!Illuso is already crushed but at least the anime depicted them consistently with their respective build and height, so that’s acceptable.

What I can’t agree is: BRUNO AND RISOTTO ARE THE SAME HEIGHT??!? WTF?? So, Risotto’s anime height is NOT A TYPO after all? The fuck is this? RISOTTO IS like THE TALLEST AND SWOLEST IN PART 5, besides shadow!Diavolo and Polpo (obviously), in the manga… and in the anime too!! Why would he be in the same height and stature with fuckin’ Buccellati?? Nah, I’m not hating Bruno, he is the JoJo best mom, this is not about his character, but I don’t expect him to be that tall and big and I never expect Risotto to be average that is smaller than Abbacchio and Illuso, sorry… I CAN’T ACCEPT THIS!!!

AND YEAH, I don’t think (most of) the animators were agree with this too. Whenever they’re in the same frame, Abbacchio and Bruno’s height difference is definitely not 3 cm!! IT MUST BE 10 CM!!! Risotto still looks like the swolest character in La Squadra and bigger than Abbacchio. Just look at his scenes! He is menacingly big, compared to other La Squadra… let alone Bruno.

Or are you saying that Risotto is like Gan Ning for Abbacchio and Illuso’s Ling Tong? Sorry, I can’t buy that. Risotto is SWOLE but not in a body builder sense like Gan Ning (maybe it’s Formaggio, at least I can accept that).

My question is: who decides this newly official height chart? Is it someone/some group influential in the Golden Wind anime? DavidPro? Or is it Araki himself? If it is Araki, why would he drastically change his characters’ height… a lot? Araki himself had been known as the mangaka who often changes/retcons the characters’ info and design in the middle of the story. But did he completely forget or disregard the info boxes he made during the ending of Vento Aureo manga back in 1999? The info boxes which had become the reference for manga readers since 20 years ago?

Bruno and Risotto being in the same height as 185 cm is hard to believe, if you also agree with me, I encourage you to keep doing what you like. Keep your headcanon and ignore this bullshit height chart! Get rid of this bullshit!! Keep drawing and depicting your 178cm!Bruno and 200cm!Risotto!!! Why should we care with this so called official newly retconed height chart bullshit that ruins Vento Aureo established canon since 20 years ago? (yeah, I’m talking about Buccellati’s gang info boxes during the requiem and sleeping slaves arc)

Now here comes the bonus, Diavolo’s height theory:

Since this bullshit but I try to believe it height chart reveals Doppio’s height, we can make some wild calculation of Diavolo’s height. Doppio (in the anime) is 170 cm and Diavolo is at least a head taller than Doppio. Given that average adult human proportion is 7.5 heads, I determined Doppio’s head length by dividing his height into 7.5 -> 170 : 7.5 = ± 22.7 cm. Now, just add his height with the length of his head -> 170 cm + 22.7 cm = ± 193 cm -> surely this is not an accurate estimation, this is still the rough calculation of Diavolo’s height. I used Doppio’s head length rather than Diavolo’s because his height is unknown. Also, I treat this as the maximum estimation of Diavolo’s height.

Next, I did the other estimation of Diavolo’s height since based of their picture above (by Araki), Diavolo isn’t really a head taller than Doppio, likely Doppio is as tall as Diavolo’s nose. So, I did the second calculation, using this simple proportion approximation (because I suck at math), we just got Doppio’s head length so let’s take the ¾ of it -> 22.7 x ¾ = ± 17 cm, adding his height with ¾ of his head’s length -> ± 187 cm -> this is more likely the minimum estimation of Diavolo’s height.

TL;DR: Diavolo’s height would be around 187-193 cm, the median is 190 cm. 

What do you think? This is just my attempt to estimate Diavolo’s height as my headcanon. To be honest, I don’t think Diavolo is taller than the Joestars trio and DIO. How tall is Diavolo according to you? Feel free to correct me or share your own estimation! Or has his official height been revealed (that I’m not aware of)?
