TURN WEEK 2023: DAY #2

FAVORITE VILLAIN/GOOD-GONE-BAD

Okay, so I don't really consider John Andre to be a villain, so much as an antagonist, which believe or not, are actually two different things. Villains are typically characters with solely malicious intent, while antagonists are plot devices that create challenges and obstacles for the protagonists.

In this case, our protagonists are the rebels, while the antagonists are the British, but one of the interesting approaches I thought this show took was the idea that both sides have good and bad people on them because everyone's perception of what 'freedom' means can differ, particularly for many of the Tories who spy on the rebels because their freedom means something akin to power (I'm just rambling now, sorry).

Anyway, John Andre is certainly my favorite antagonist in the show because he was very well layered and ultimately chose true love over glory for his king and country. With all he'd done for the good of England prior to this, along with the fact that it seemed an easy decision for him in the end, just really makes it all the more romantic.
