Whew, this one took a while, dude carries a whole arsenal on himself. Argo is one of the characters I've had a lot of difficulty with consistency, but I think I'm getting better at it.

Good Boy (Camaro)
Summary: Nick is a good boy for Sonny. (AKA it’s just smut)
WC: ~2.2k
Tags: Dom!Sonny, Sub!Nick, rimming, face sitting, coming in pants, praise kink
When Sonny comes home, he already knows the kind of night it’s going to be. Nick texts a couple hours before he leaves work, saying that he needs to be taken care of, but also crystal clear about not needing immediate attention. So although Sonny keeps working until it was time to head home, he isn’t concentrating on much but planning their evening for Nick’s sake. He checks with Olivia that Nick ate of course, and asks just to be sure if there was anything bad that day. Not that she noticed, he learns.
Nick’s in place the second Sonny gets through the door. He’s not naked yet, still wearing a soft pair of sweatpants, and has his back straight as he sits criss-cross on the carpet. They realized the first time they tried this that Nick has a hard time kneeling on his bad knee, and so sitting with good posture is their compromise.
“Good boy,” Sonny praises. Immediately, Nick ducks his head and a flush crawls up his ears. Beautiful. "Come here and help, please?"
He shrugs off his coat himself, and then Nick's careful fingers undo each button of his vest, loosen his tie, open his cuffs. It's slow and deliberate, and the wait makes everything more intense for both of them. This close, Sonny can hear each breath Nick takes, see the movement of his chest, feel the warmth radiating from his skin. He wonders if Nick notices all of him in return. Breaking the silence isn't worth finding an answer as Sonny's chest becomes bare, and Nick pauses with his hands on his belt buckle.
"Bedroom."
He rests his hand on the small of Nick's back, just below where his ribs end. Skin peppered with scars, soon to be covered in little bruises. Sonny takes the time to shed the day as they walk, forcing away everything that came from work in favor of focusing on nothing but Nick. Nick and his loving voice, his wide eyes, his pink lips, his round ass. There's not a single part of him that isn't beyond beautiful. And he lays over their soft bed without hesitation, looking up at Sonny through his lashes with so much trust and love that it physically hurts to see. Sonny actually has to pause and catch his breath.
“I love you so much," he says, and Nick looks away from him, rests a forearm over his face. It's as adorable as it is heartbreaking, and Sonny doesn’t hesitate to climb onto the bed and pull his arm away before pinning it at his side. "I wanna see you tonight, doll. No hiding."
“Sonny…”
“Nicky…” he drawls back, close to laughter. It makes Nick smile at him, and again Sonny’s chest burns with how much he loves  him. “C’mon. Be a good boy for me.”
And he starts kissing along Nick’s throat, the skin pulled taut when Nick tilts his head back and moans softly. He’s sensitive all over to every gentle touch, and Sonny has learned that nothing takes his breath away like being treated as the precious, ethereal, beautiful man he is. Just kissing him gets him to these early stages of floating and letting go of the day, and before long, he’ll be reduced to a mess and reliant on Sonny to take care of him.
With his hand not pinning one of Nick’s arms, he reaches down between their bodies, flat palm against Nick’s chest to feel the twitch of his muscles in anticipation. He could tell him to be patient, but a look alone is enough. For a moment he just waits, feels the heat of smooth skin and gives Nick a chance to settle down.
Once he stills, Sonny lets his hand move down, over the waistband of Nick’s sweatpants to cup him loosely through the fabric. He’s already hard, unsurprisingly. At first Sonny just rests his hand there in a taunt, a test, but when Nick stays still and obedient he rewards him with the slightest friction.
“You’re such a good boy,” Sonny says. Like he says every night, like he says every hour and every minute until Nick hears it and believes him. “Tell me what you need tonight.”
Nick shakes his head. Evidently, the day has been enough that he doesn’t even feel like asking, and that’s okay. On easier days, Sonny will make him ask, but today, he needs to take the lead and make Nick feel as loved and wanted as he is. He kisses him again and lets go of Nick’s wrist in favor of curling around his hip.
“You can touch, you don’t have to ask.”
Immediately there are calloused, strong fingers in Sonny’s hair. They don’t pull or demand, only caress.
“I’ve got you, Nicky. I’m right here.”
Still gently grinding his palm against Nick’s bulge, he moves on from kissing down his neck to making marks on his chest. Every scar and muscle, he knows by heart. The indent between his pecs, the pink knot from when he was shot by Johnny D, the happy trail leading down his torso.
“Feel good?”
Nick nods, too overwhelmed by the pleasure to try speaking. Sonny just barely catches it with a glance upward, and he vows to have Nick talking by the end of this. He applies just a little more pressure with his hand. He has this idea, suddenly, of getting Nick to come in his pants like he did the first time they got hot and heavy on the couch in the living room. It’ll help him unwind somewhat, and it’ll be gorgeous.
He knows every breath Nick takes and what it means. When they get faster and more intense, Sonny knows he’s close. When his hands tighten in Sonny’s still gel-sticky hair, it means he’s going to lose control. And when he starts saying please, helplessly rocking his hips up into Sonny’s touch and arching his back, he’s seconds away.
“Be a good boy and come for me?” Sonny asks, not commands, because it’s always Nick’s choice.
And he does, the fabric going damp and his soft moans deepening as he jerks up staccato into Sonny’s hand. The air is hot and humid between them. Under Sonny’s tongue, his sweat is salty and familiar.
“I want to…”
Nick trails off, waving his hand loosely toward Sonny. He’s cum-drunk and more than halfway to a drop, his eyes glassy and far above his red cheeks. He’ll need to be taken care of properly after.
“What do you want?”
“I want…” Nick’s staring at Sonny now, specifically at the shine of his belt buckle in the low light and the obvious tent in his slacks.
“It’s okay. Whatever you want, you can have it.”
You just have to ask is left unsaid, but Nick hears it and groans, casting his eyes up to the ceiling. He reaches forward just enough for Sonny to bat his hand away playfully. Then he whines, pushes himself up on his elbows. His chest is still heaving with having come, and Sonny wants to kiss all over it again.
“Do you want me to fuck you?”
Nick hesitates for a long moment.
“You wanna taste me, doll?”
“Yes, sir.”
The sir is added not just to rile Sonny up, but to make him aware that Nick’s mind is clear enough to consent even if he can’t voice it right now. It means something to them. Normally, Nick would never say it outside of a joke. But now he says it, and it proves he’s aware, and that he’s choosing to give himself over entirely. He trusts Sonny. And when this is over, Sonny will cry in the shower about the warmth he gets from having that much trust put in him by someone who has every reason not to.
He takes off his belt quickly and tosses it aside, knows it’s one of the few items of clothing Nick doesn’t want to dwell on, and makes quick work of his slacks and boxers too. It’s different, being naked when Nick isn’t, but he still feels the weight of the power he has right now.
Sonny figures that what Nick wanted was to blow him, but he thinks he wants something a little different, and he trusts Nick to tell him no if need be. But really, he also trusts Nick to trust him, and to be eager for things just the way he is. He scoots up to sit on his chest, knees poised on either side of his ribcage, and cups his face gently.
“You’re the best thing to ever happen to me,” he says, and he doesn’t just mean moments like these in bed. He means Nick’s chest beneath his head on early mornings, and sharing dinner well past when they should be eating, and kissing in movie theaters. “You’re perfect.”
Nick shuts his eyes tight, scrunches his face up because with Sonny holding him he won’t even try to turn away.
“C’mon, doll. Can you say it for me?”
“Sonny…”
“Say it,” he encourages. “Say you’re perfect.”
It’s a lot, even Sonny can recognize that, and when Nick shakes his head minutely, curls a hand around Sonny’s wrist, he can’t fault him. He waits, and after a moment, bends to kiss Nick’s forehead.
“It’s okay,” he soothes in a soft voice, almost a whisper. “Can you say that you’re a good boy for me?”
Still, it’s not easy. Nick needs a moment to take a deep breath and center himself, shift his weight on the bed and remember where he is. His eyes, through thick lashes, are wide and open and it’s the trust still, the faith in Sonny and the expectation that he will take care of him. He always will.
“I’m a good boy for you,” Nick says, and turns his face just enough to press a gentle kiss to Sonny’s palm.
Hearing it settles something deep in Sonny’s soul. It’s a victory, every time Nick admits something good about himself, and he’s tempted to just lay down and kiss him for the next six hours, but that’s not what Nick wants or needs right now. He needs to do something that will make him feel like he doesn’t have to think.
“Gonna make me feel good?”
Nick nods and reaches for him, licks his lips because he’s probably already figured out what Sonny wants. Carefully, he shifts until he’s now kneeling over Nick’s head, and slowly lowers himself down. He’s careful to keep most of his weight on his legs, but Nick is quick to wrap his arms around Sonny’s thighs and hold him there.
Sonny threads his hands into Nick’s hair, soft and slightly curly, gone long now that he doesn’t cut it short for work every couple of months. He loves stroking Nick’s hair, and he could wax poetry about it for hours, except for the fact that his mind goes a little blank when Nick’s tongue traces from his balls to his hole. Starting slow, trying to figure out how best to please Sonny today because he’s a good boy like that.
“Just like that,” he praises, as Nick gets a little more into it and starts licking gently against Sonny’s hole. “Good boy.”
He tries to stay still at first, let Nick move at his own pace, but before long he can’t help rocking a little on Nick’s face, especially once Nick gets around to working his tongue inside of him. It’s not often that Sonny gets to experience this, so he allows himself to enjoy it and makes sure to let Nick know he is.
Of course, it doesn’t take long for the tell-tale heat to build up in his stomach. Just getting Nick off like he already has does wonders for him, and the feeling of Nick’s warm tongue inside him and the accompaniment of his own hand curled around his cock, he’d never last long anyways.
He looks down and can just barely see the way Nick’s eyes are shut, his brows pulled in with concentration. He’s just so perfect. Sonny loves him more than anything else in the entire world.
His orgasm still winds up hitting him somewhat by surprise, come getting all over his hand and Nick’s hair, getting a little rougher than he meant to as he grinds against Nick’s face. But still, Nick clings to him and keeps going until Sonny pulls away. Beautiful, lips swollen and cheeks wet and dribbles of come on his face. He almost takes a picture, but that’s not what’s important right now.
“Good boy, you did so well, doll.”
Nick nods, and reaches for Sonny because he knows next, Sonny will bathe him. He’ll wash his hair and rub a wash cloth that smells like lavender over his body until he’s clean and relaxing against the back of the tub. More than once, he’s fallen asleep like that, completely trusting Sonny not to let anything bad happen to him.
Like always, Sonny picks him up and presses a lingering kiss to his temple as he carries Nick to the bath, praising him the whole way.

The Essence of Sprout
An essay by Professor Caldwell Mook, as told to Nick Morrish Art by Leigh Legler
It is not often that I agree to become personally involved in one of the scientific experiments that I am investigating. Generally, I prefer to observe and deride from a safe distance. However, Doctor Felix Happensnapper’s research into sensory enhancement intrigued me greatly.
Many years ago, as a callow youth living in rural England, I was persuaded to play in a village cricket match. I was allocated a fielding position close to the batsman; a position with the apt name of “silly mid-off.” After a while, I made the mistake of concentrating on a problem of mental calculus, rather than the game in progress. It was the turn of the rival team’s captain to bat. In response to some heckling from the crowd, he swung energetically at the ball which promptly struck me hard on the bridge of the nose.
Interestingly, before I passed out, I clearly recall being able to calculate the velocity and vector of the offending projectile with considerable accuracy.
When I came round, I had lost a large amount of blood and much of my sense of smell. My body efficiently replaced the missing blood cells, but my olfactory nerves were never the same again. I consider this to be a gross design flaw and were it possible, I would certainly have complained to the manufacturer.
Since this unfortunate incident, I have been unable to discern anything but the most pungent aromas and the strongest tastes. Over the last year, I have compensated for this by dining extensively on Goat Vindaloo, a fiery curry dish from south-east India, which even my acquaintances from the Indian sub-continent consider uncomfortably hot.
As much as I enjoy the sensory experience, my new diet has put something of a dampener on my social life, as the after-effects can put be somewhat off-putting to those with a normal sense of smell. I had been searching for a more convenient solution to my problem, so when I heard of Doctor Happensnapper’s work, I put aside my usual skepticism and offered myself as a subject for his experiments.
“We have developed efficient hearing aids, so why not scent aids, taste aids, or even touch aids?” he asked when we met at his Hampshire laboratory.
Although housed in a Victorian Gothic building studded with sinister-looking pinnacles and gloomy towers, the laboratory itself was perfectly clean and modern. I understand that the myriad spider’s webs in the foyer are merely there for effect.
“As you can see, I have been experimenting with a series of sprays, gels, injections, and electrical shock therapies to both enhance and degrade the efficacy of the sensory nerves.”
I am aware that electrical shock treatment is now considered the gold standard amongst para-rational medical practitioners such as Doctor Happensnapper. However, I suggested we begin with more conventional treatments, since their effects are usually temporary and are less likely to cause scarring or memory loss.
The doctor began by offering me a patent nasal spray which he said would fortify my damaged olfactory nerves. I tried it, and within a few minutes, I was able to detect the scent of new mown grass drifting in through an open window. I was delighted by this result and congratulated Doctor Happensnapper on his formulation.
Gradually, I began to detect more smells, both pleasant and unpleasant. The intensity of the experience increased exponentially, and I soon became aware of a strong odor of curry exuding from my skin.
I had for some time wondered if my personal hygiene was suffering due to my poor sense of smell, and I now had considerable evidence to support this hypothesis. I asked his assistant, Nurse Mundy, a large bearded gentleman with little discernable bedside manner, if there was a shower I could use. I followed his directions, but as soon as I entered the bathroom, I was overcome by the stench of chemicals, air fresheners, and drains and immediately passed out.
I awoke some hours later on a hospital bed. Doctor Happensnapper did not appear unduly concerned but made notes on my condition and agreed to use a lower dose next time. He suggested we move on to the sense of taste which, I found, had also diminished as a result of the accident.
Nurse Bundy applied several unpleasant tasting droplets on my tongue to collate what is commonly known as a taste map. From this, the doctor was able to deduce which areas required the most enhancement and which were working satisfactorily.
He produced a viscous gel, which the nurse spread over the relevant parts of my tongue. I suffered a certain gagging reflex, but the taste was not unduly unpleasant. Nurse Bundy then fed me small pieces of food, such as broccoli, chocolate, anchovies, and so on.
My experience of each flavor was indeed heightened, and my opinion of the doctor’s methods was somewhat restored. However, when the nurse returned an hour later to repeat the tests, I found that everything now unaccountably tasted of Brussels sprouts. Now I am not one of these people who detest the noble sprout, but the intensity of its bitter flavor soon overcame all others.
My distress was clearly evident to Nurse Bundy, who attempted to remove the gel with an electric toothbrush. Unfortunately, the spearmint flavoring of the anti-bacterial rinsing fluid only exacerbated the all-encompassing sprout sensation. Overwhelmed by this vegetable excess, my brain again decided that a brief period of unconsciousness was required.

However, when the nurse returned an hour later to repeat the tests, I found that everything now unaccountably tasted of Brussels sprouts.
Once I had recovered, Doctor Happensnapper returned, appearing even more excited by the results of this latest experiment.
“Do you not see what this means? If we can enhance the sprout reaction in a subject who has no aversion to its taste, then surely we can also reduce it in those to whom it is a complete anathema. The boon to mankind and also to my research budget could be immense. Imagine what the Brussels Sprout Growers Association would say if I could make their product universally acceptable.”
I consented to assisting him in his continued research, but only after a suitable fee was agreed, the amount of which I am not prepared to disclose. I was introduced to Doctor Happensnapper’s wife, Ingrid, a tall, emaciated-looking woman with disconcertingly hairy hands and a limited command of the English language. She distilled the essence of sprout from a large cast iron pot filled with the vegetable, which she had been stewing over an open fire.
Once the potion was ready, she wasted no time before passing it Nurse Bundy with a nervous wink and a grimace. The nurse began by applying a high-concentration Emla cream to my sprout taste receptors. He then administered several drops of essence of sprout to each side of my tongue and waited for it to take effect. The inhibiting cream certainly reduced the adverse reactions noted previously but on the left side only.
“I see you are uni-sprout intolerant,” explained the doctor. “You have a tongue asymmetry, which means that half your taste buds are more sensitive than the other half.”
He advised Nurse Bundy to double the strength of the cream applied to the right-hand side. Although I could now no longer feel large parts of my tongue, or my face for that matter, it did even out the taste sensations. However, I did not find essence of sprout any more pleasing to my taste.
It reminded me rather of the cabbage soup my grandmother used to make. Needless to say, visits to her house are not a fond childhood memory. As sad as I was to hear of her unfortunate accident with my nephew’s skateboard and the London Underground train, there was a part of me that was inappropriately overjoyed that I would never have to taste her cooking ever again.
I concluded that Doctor Happensnapper’s scheme to extort money from sprout farmers was doomed to failure. However, I decided not to mention this to him until I was certain his fee was securely in my bank account. I consider that his sense enhancement experiments may one day bear fruit, but I shall wait until his techniques are at a more mature stage of development before subjecting myself to Nurse Bundy’s tender ministrations once more.
On a positive note, my sense of taste remains somewhat improved. I have relinquished my Indian curry diet and have recently developed a fondness for Thai cuisine. I look forward to the renewal of various social relationships which have languished in recent months under the miasma of Goat Vindaloo.
Since the conclusion of my investigation, however, I have been unable to so much as look at a Brussels sprout without shuddering. In the autumn, I am seriously considering taking a sabbatical somewhere in the far east until Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other sprout-related festivities are safely in the past.

Doctor Who Series 12 Review Part 7/10: Can You Hear Me?
Tumblr media
Air date: 9 February 2020
This was a pretty deep episode if you ask me. Dreams and nightmares have been explored in Doctor Who over the years, but this is the first time that we have gone deeper into them and linked it to mental health. Apparently, this was why a BBC Action Line tag was included in the original UK broadcast of the episode.
My spoiler-free thought for this episode: “Who let Gen Urobuchi touch the script for this episode?”
As the BBC Action Line was mentioned, I guess I have the duty to recommend some support lines before I start the review. This page has a vast collection of mental health hotlines and websites from around the world.
Spoilers continue after the break.
Character development everywhere
This episode managed to develop Graham, Ryan and Yaz’s characters at the same time as we gain an insight into their fears and nightmares. Graham’s fear was his cancer coming back and Grace being disappointed in him (which likely manifested as a result of the guilt of not being able to save her). Ryan’s fear was not being able to see his friend, Tibo, during his lifetime and the Earth turning into what would be Orphan 55 (as shown with the Dregs in his nightmare). Yaz’s fear was a bit confusing for me to decipher, but it seems to be being left alone with no one to help her.
At the end of the episode, it becomes evident that this experience inspires them to do something that furthers their characters. Ryan encourages Tibo to seek support or therapy for his depression. Yaz is inspired to seek the policewoman (Anita Patel, I hate it when they name characters in the credits and they don’t say who they are in the episode) who inspired her three years ago when she ran away from home to answer her bet. Graham confides to the Doctor his worries about his cancer potentially coming back.
At the same time, we also get an insight into the Doctor’s fear (at this point in time), which is evidently that of the Timeless Child and everything she knew being a lie. The Doctor’s previously known fear was back during his eleventh incarnation, namely the cracks in time not being fully resolved as a result of them leaving “scar tissue” in the fabric of the universe.
Overlords or not?
Zellin and Rakaya (the other imprisoned immortal whose name was never spoken in the episode) reminded me of the Overlords of Kamen Rider Agito... until we saw that they were both evil. I was going to put the Doctor into the equation, but then I realised that she is nothing like the Overlord of Light.
Let me clarify. In Agito, the Overlords are twin entities who embodied light and darkness. They created the world, but neither of them could agree on who would reign and so, they fought. After losing to his ‘brother’, the Overlord of Light bestowed his essence on humanity in the form of Agito’s power in the hope that they would evolve beyond his control. The Overlord of Darkness, however, saw to eliminate any who possessed Agito’s power and would have the potential to evolve into him.
Zellin and Rakaya are immortals who entertained themselves with the fears and nightmares of humans, while also destroying planets for their own amusement. The Doctor admires humanity’s potential and encourages them to be the best they can be, giving them as little assistance as possible so they can progress with their own abilities. In a way, they are somewhat like the Overlords, but they are not entirely like them at the same time.
A theory I missed about Ruth
I just realised something about Episode 5 that I forgot to include, namely the theory that Ruth was a pre-Hartnell Doctor. Now, I am of the belief that the First Doctor, as first shown in 1963, is the first of all the Doctor’s incarnations and that any attempt to shoehorn Ruth in at any point in the Doctor’s past (as we know to be) will be proof that the SJW agenda is here to stay.
Apparently, I saw that people were using the Fourth Doctor story The Brain of Morbius as evidence that the Doctor has had incarnations before the First Doctor, as we knew it, and used it as a theory that Ruth could be a pre-Hartnell Doctor. This is shown during the mindbending sequence near the end of the fourth part, where we saw a face apparently belonging to Morbius, then the faces of the Doctor’s previous incarnations, then eight other faces taken from the production team of the time.
Assuming the eight other faces were the Doctor’s previous incarnations and the Doctor can only regenerate twelve times, here’s my theory. Ruth could be a “missing” incarnation in the eight, making the Fourth Doctor the last incarnation in this particular regeneration cycle. The Watcher merging with the Fourth Doctor in his regeneration story, Logopolis, could represent him gaining a new regeneration cycle, but between that and the Eleventh Doctor gaining another regeneration cycle, there are still four incarnations left unaccounted for.
Going by this article on the TARDIS Data Core, some classic-era material seemed to imply that Hartnell’s Doctor wasn’t the first, with even Philip Hinchcliffe, producer of The Brain of Morbius, saying that it was his intention to do so. However, at this point in time, there has been no attempt to confirm this fact, so my belief regarding the Doctor’s incarnations has not deviated from the mainstream view. People can say that those faces were randomly generated or that they originally belonged to Morbius and I’d be inclined to agree with them.
At this point in time, all the episode titles for Series 12 have been revealed. With the final episode of the series aptly being named “The Timeless Children”, I hope the issue of Ruth being the Doctor can be explained, hopefully with the appearance of the Master.
Other general thoughts
The exposition of the two planets was animated in cartoon form. What is this, Homestuck?
Is it just me, or did the Doctor manage to summon her sonic screwdriver into her hand while they were cuffed? I’m sorry, but that is a deus ex machina right there. Someone stated on Twitter that the cuffs were magnetised, but there has been no indication or explanation that that is the case.
According to this Radio Times article, some fans said that the Doctor was apparently dismissive of Graham’s concern regarding his cancer coming back, particularly this fan on Twitter, who lost his grandmother to cancer. Um, the Doctor literally said she was socially awkward and her fam has known her for so long that they should know it, given her alien nature. It’s not the first time the Doctor has struggled with being sensitive towards vulnerable people. If it’s any consolation, she stated that she would eventually think of something that she should have said. If she was actually being dismissive, she’d be more like the Twelfth Doctor during Series 8.
I know I’ve hardly ever mentioned Bowlestrek during the course of these reviews, but I can’t help but say this. I’ve seen some of his reviews of this series, out of curiosity, and while I still agree with his sentiment somewhat, I can’t help but feel that he’s become a shadow of what he was two years ago, during Series 11. Heck, I made rants on a very divisive aspect of anime and video game localisation for five years and it only took three years to make me realise that I’ve become a shadow of myself, and yet I still went on for two more years after that. But I digress; I still think The Oldest Nerd does more level-headed reviews. Tharries sums Bowlestrek up quite well here.
Summary and verdict
This was another thought-provoking episode. If you go on to read the next section, you’ll see how this episode inspired me to talk a little bit about the lowlights of my life.
The characters got decent character development and while we didn’t get any more progress in the Timeless Child arc, it’s good to be reminded that it exists and that it is one of the Doctor’s biggest fears.
Rating: 8/10
Being as personal as possible (without going into too much detail)
Before I go IRL, let me tell you about a fan of mine from years ago. When I first started the Koei Warriors Rant Series, there was a fan who followed me as I presented my research on English dubbing in video game localisation. This person was trans and they had split personalities - a boy one, a girl one, and a third one they claimed was an evil one. They were lucky to be one of the only fans I added on my personal Facebook as I was posting to Koei Tecmo’s page from there before I moved it to the Yeonchi page. Over the years, I saw stories of them writing about their depression and how their family treated them like shit. Near the end, I reported a post where they said they were going to commit suicide by taking a lot of pills - this was their second time if I remember correctly. I still have the screencap of that post. Some months later, they deactivated their Facebook account and I never heard from them again. I presumed they committed suicide given some of their posts, but I never thought about emailing them or anything until I had already started writing the review for this episode. I have no idea if she’ll reply eventually, but if she doesn’t, then I guess my intuition may have been correct all along.
I was going through a random mood before and after I watched this episode. Before I watched it, my mind, for no reason, suddenly triggered my anger towards something I thought I’d forgiven years ago when I lowkey haven’t (which is why I elected to forget it in the hope that it’d be the same). After I watched it, I, for unrelated reasons, was “reminded” of a few people from high school (it’s a harmless habit that usually goes undetected by others that I’m also hoping to reduce) who I didn’t hang out with a lot, but they intrigued me in different ways. Like the Doctor admits, I have been socially awkward and am trying to overcome it little by little as I see old friends wherever I go (which frankly is a rarity for me), so I have different thoughts about them now than I did back then; I probably wouldn’t have been able to understand those current feelings back then.
One person was another socially awkward person like me, but she had managed to make a few friends in her locker area (she was special enough to have a locker with a few other special students in the year level above her instead of everyone else in our year level). Because of how “similar” our situations were, there were one or two times when our friends shipped us together (as a joke) and I was pissed at it because I never felt that way towards her. We did work together on a few pieces of schoolwork though. The real hitter for me regarding her was when I saw her contribution to an autism awareness project where she mentioned that she was homeschooled up until late into primary school and that she was bullied during the two years each in primary and high school. I was largely unaware that she had been bullied at all (though I did hear a story or two) and, for a great deal of the last decade, I was unaware that I had contributed to it indirectly by filming her on a couple of occasions during camp, screaming and crying at things normal people would have deemed harmless.
Another person was this girl I had this huge crush on during my entire time in high school. She was aware of it and she never loved me back, but the thing I hated about it was the fact that she didn’t tell me directly, in person or on Facebook; no, she was enough of a coward to have her cousin do it for her. Admittedly, while I did show a lot of animosity towards her, hatred even, my crush for her never subsided. If we were in an actual relationship, we’d be flip-flopping between being the abuser and the victim. At the time, I denied feeling this way because my anger and addictions to Dynasty Warriors, later tokusatsu, seemingly covered it up (I was very chuunibyou at the time and had fantasies of fighting her, wrong I know), but at this point, years after we graduated high school, I accepted that I did feel jealous of her, not just because she had a lot of friends and hung out with them all the time, but because she also hung out with a few boys and I was paranoid enough to think that they were in a relationship. I remember fictionalising all this as part of my personal project (that has a big connection with Doctor Who) ala Chris-chan with this girl and her friends as the villains. The main character (not the Doctor) of the project has a turbulent relationship with her - them being together represented my delusion of wanting to be with her, while them being apart and killing each other represented how she didn’t love me back and how I saw it as us hating each other. At this point, I’m planning on ending the personal project, so I put them back together and made them average characters just so I didn’t have to end the story with them killing each other.
The final person really pissed me off because of the way she acted towards the end of our friendship; she was a wolf in sheep’s clothing. She was a cold and socially awkward person when we first met, but over time, she warmed up to social interaction and we eventually became friends. At the end of Year 10, she moved to a different school because her dad just up and signed the contract for their new home. We still stayed in contact for the next few years and caught up with each other, even. Our catchup outings were generally pleasant, but there was this one time where it left a sour taste in my mouth. We went out to watch San Andreas with another friend of ours. We parted with our friend after the movie ended (he was also socially awkward like me) and soon after that, she got pissed off at me for no damn reason, other than me being blunt in our Facebook chats (remember, I was socially awkward at the time as well, but I still tried my best to carry a conversation even if I wasn’t good at it). I had no idea why she suddenly decided to be a bitch to me at the time, aside from a suspicion that she was PMSing at the time. We made up after that, but our friendship continued to drift as time passed. We managed to get into the same university, but we weren’t able to catch up as much as we wanted to because we did different courses and had different timetables. By the time that ungrateful slut (and no, I won’t apologise for that, that’s my honest opinion) deleted me from Facebook, she had a boyfriend and was going out to clubs quite a bit; it was like she became the protagonist of 177013, only she didn’t get injected with drugs and become a megaslut.
Sometimes, I imagine how happy I could have been if things had been different. Sadly, I have to live with the consequences of my actions, intentional or not, for the rest of my life. Many people seem to think that depressed women are the only people we should show compassion to, but they also seem to forget that men like myself can get depressed as well. At the moment, I’m doing just fine; I have a goal I want to strive for and I don’t intend on giving up until I get it - or someone gets to it first.
Stay tuned next week as I review the eighth episode, The Haunting of Villa Diodati.

And chapter 3 is up!
Work: Galaxies Apart
Chapter: 3, The Universe Doesn’t Care About Your Scars
Previous Chapters (1, 2)
Summary:  Julie is finally able to have a real conversation with Ajaa and start getting some answers about the angara and take Ajaa up on his offer to show her around Aya, learning about much more than she thought she would for her first real question session with him.
Day three.
The little apartment the Nexus had secured for Julie still did not feel like home. It was little more than a sitting room, a bedroom, a bathroom, and a tiny kitchen. Size was not an issue, the Initiative had pretty strict rules as to how many belongings could be brought to Andromeda, fitting her few things into the apartment was not a problem but everything felt so bare.
Maybe I can see if Ajaa or Sivus can get me a houseplant or something , Julie mused. Maybe something alive would make the apartment feel a little less bare and lonely.
Breakfast was a quiet affair as usual, a meal bar and what might have been juice at one time before being reduced to a dubious powder. Maybe once the colonies were up and running a bit more some of the produce they were growing might make its way to Aya and maybe even get to be real juice.
Julie wished she would have just set a time to meet up with Ajaa yesterday instead of having to guess what the best time to call was. Was he a morning person? Would it be alright to call now? It's probably too early, plus he's probably at work. Maybe around lunch time would be best?
Instead, Julie busied herself reorganizing her kitchen, moving the glasses closer to the sink, then moving them back to where they were before. Changing the drawer with the silverware to the drawer on the other side of the sink, then subsequently changing the plates and bowls to the cabinet above the silverware. Things still did not feel quite right, not quite home.
It was 10:30am by the time Julie finally decided that the kitchen was as good as it was going to get and it was time to at least start getting ready. Showering only took a few minutes, the Nexus had pretty strict rules on water usage and even after moving off the Nexus some habits stay. Getting dressed was a trickier task, Aya was warm, it would be nice to wear shorts but Julie had only seen the angara there wearing long pants and shirts with long sleeves.
Did angara not like showing skin? If that was the case would they care if I wore shorts? Would it be rude or would they just write it off as ‘alien differences’? I'll just wear long pants and ask Ajaa about it. Julie ultimately decided before tossing on a pair or workout pants and an Initiative shirt.
She ran her fingers through her hair, trying to detangle it and help it dry faster. During her first two days on Aya she had heard a few comments about her hair, curiosity about how it felt or how it was maintained and if letting the angara feel her hair and ask questions about it would help bridge the gap between their cultures, well then that was what it would take.
It was only 11:15am. Was that still too early to call? Julie wondered. Surely not, it was almost lunch time, Ajaa had to be awake by now.
Julie read through Ajaa’s contact information again, Full name: Ajaa Na Rova. Age: 25. Born: Tersha daar, Havarl. Current Location: Aya. Occupation: agricultural scientist. Contact frequency: 6251.43
Twenty-Five, close to her age, though to be honest all of the angara looked about the same age to her. Angara aging, another question to ask Ajaa about. Julie brought up the interface on her omni tool and made a note to ask Ajaa about aging and anagran attitudes about showing skin.
She started leafing through the data from Avela that she copied down while she was at the Repository. No data on aging or acceptable amounts of skin to show. She skimmed the sections on reincarnation again, it was astounding concept if it was real. Julie hoped it was real. It was a comforting idea, that one day you could be united with loved ones and live another life, even possibly remembering past lives. She made another note to remember to ask Ajaa more about reincarnation.
Why are you putting this off? Julie asked herself. Why go through data again when there was an angara she could ask. Ajaa was friendly, he wanted to chat with her, he even offered to show her around Aya. He was ideally what she needed for an interview, to get a more personal view on the angara, someone she could get to know, a friend who would give her everyday view of Aya.
Calling Ajaa was easy enough, just connecting to his communicator frequency and waiting on him to pick up. There were a few moments of silence while Julie waited on the call to connect before she heard his voice.
“ Hello?” Said Ajaa.
“Hey, it’s Julie, I hope I didn’t catch you at a bad time”.
“ Just finishing up recording a bit of data for Allya. What’s up?”
“I was hoping you had some time to talk and take you up on that offer to show me around Aya”.
“ Sure, just give me thirty minutes to finish up here and get up there. Meet by the adhi’s eye planter in the Memorial Gardens?”
“Sounds good, see you soon”.
There was a soft click when Ajaa disconnected the call.
And there it was, her first actual interview, and maybe her first friend in Andromeda. Waking up in a new galaxy proved to be a lonely experience once the initial wonder wore off for Julie. The first few days on the Nexus had been exciting, she woke up to learn not only had they made it to Heleus, but there had been first contact with a new species.
From the first moments out of cyro she was working, a data pad thrust into her hands about what little they knew about the angara and told to do what she could to help the angara on the Nexus transition over to living amongst Milky Way species. She liked the angara, they were a strong people, heads held high in the middle of a war, a very honest people, but the more she spoke with them, the more she realized that she missed her family.
Many angara all asked the same questions: what was the best way for them to keep in contact with their family? It was an easy question to answer, angaran communicators could easily reach back to the angaran worlds, and the Nexus had set up video terminals on both the Nexus and the angara worlds. Plus there were fairly frequent shuttles so the angara on the Nexus could visit their families.
But what about the Initiative members who left their families a galaxy and 600 years away? What does someone do when they know they are alone in a new galaxy, that everyone they knew were dead and gone and there was nothing anyone could do to change that? For Julie it meant smiling through her day, making sure the angara on the Nexus felt welcomed and comfortable, and going back to her little apartment on the Nexus with the crushing realization that she was utterly alone.
Being on Aya was helping at least somewhat, it was the same rush Julie had felt when she first woke up on the Nexus, there were too many new and exciting things to see and do to feel lonely. Ajaa was helping too, a friendly face to talk to made her feel more connected with Heleus at least.
Julie set off to meet up with Ajaa, she would rather get there early than make him wait for her. It was only a quick walk to where they were meeting, the same place she had tripped over him on her first day on Ajaa. She got there with about 10 minutes to spare which gave her some time to just sit and enjoy Aya.
People watching on Aya was interesting. There was such a beautiful variation to the angara, there was a merchant near her apartment whose skin was grey with pale green marks on his head and face, then there was Sivus and his pastel blues and greens, Paalka with his rich pink and red hues, and then there was Ajaa; for the most part his face was a deep sapphire color with lighter blues around his cowl and deep purple speckles on the top of his head that trailed down his nose. Julie did not know what the angaran standards of attractiveness were, but she could admit that Ajaa was pretty nice to look at.
She spent her time waiting just taking in the sights, from the plants to the people, Aya was beautiful.
“Hope I didn’t keep you waiting too long” came Ajaa’s cheerful voice.
“Only a few minutes, I live close” said Julie.
“Take a walk with me? I’ve been sitting in the lab for too long, need to stretch my legs”. Ajaa reached out his hand to help Julie up.
Julie grabbed onto his hand to get up. “Sure, can we swing by the market though too? I haven’t had a chance yet to go see it”.
“Sivus mentioned this morning that you wanted to visit the market”.
“Is he always like that?”
“Like what?”
“Just so involved in everything”.
Ajaa sighed, “He has a habit of just trying to look out for people, you get used to it. And what are today’s questions, I know you didn’t invite me here just for my charming personality”.
“Ahh, you got me, ulterior motives” Julie smiled. “I did have a few questions, but I figured we could just chat too so I could get a feel for you and for the angara in general”.
“Fire away”.
“This is more of a practical question for my sake, but it there any reason angara are always so covered up? I wanted to wear shorts today, but I felt like it might be a bit weird since I haven’t seen any angara wearing shorts or anything”.
“If you’re worried that you’re going to offend someone over showing your legs, don’t worry. Most people opt for more covering clothes in case they need to toss on armor in a hurry, years of war have left the angara wary”.
“But isn’t Aya pretty secure? And with the Archon gone the kett really aren’t a threat anymore, right?”
“Old habits die hard I suppose”. Ajaa shrugged. “ Longer clothes help with environmental issues too. Angaran skin is sensitive, too much moisture in the air and skin gets irritated, too little and skin dries out and cracks, it’s just easier to cover up most of the time”.
“So I can wear shorts and no one would care?”
“You can wear shorts”.
“Oh thank god”.
“My turn” said Ajaa, “I have my own questions”.
“That’s only fair”.
“Do all humans have hair?”
Julie smiled, “Pretty much, some have more than others, some people lose their ability to grow hair when they get older, but yeah” she trailed off. She was enjoying the walk towards the market, it was nice just to stroll and chat with someone. Technically it was still work, but it was a pleasant change from the formal interviews she had conducted on the Nexus.
“Huh, interesting” commented Ajaa. “Anymore questions?”
“What do you think?”
“So I’m not getting off the hook that easily?”
“Of course not. I have a job to do you know. I have have another practical question, or at least my own personal curiosity. So you’re twenty-five, and I’ve seen some angara who are way older than twenty-five, but you look the same age”.
“Look the same age? Do humans still change how they look once they’re adults?”
“Well, yeah. Hair turns white, skin loses its tightness, stuff like that when humans get old”.
Ajaa cocked his head to the side, “That’s bizarre”.
“So you don’t really age?”
“We get older, eventually die, but we don’t change color like humans”.
It was only a short walk to the market from the Memorial Gardens, filled with questions from both of them. Mostly general questions about each other’s species and a few jokes. Ajaa was easy to talk to, very warm and friendly, and he liked to smile a lot.
The market was small, no more than a few stalls carrying raw materials, weapons, armor, and produce, but it was still nice to visit.
“Think anything here is safe for you to eat?” asked Ajaa.
“According to the Nexus everything should be safe, just might not taste good. Apparently there might be some differences between human and angaran taste buds”.
“Might be some differences? We’re definitely testing that”. Ajaa grabbed onto Julie and pulled her over to one of the stands selling fruits and bought a large red-orange fruit. It looked fuzzy, sort of like a peach, but larger like a grapefruit.
Ajaa led Julie over to one of the fountains and sat them down on the small wall before handing Julie the fruit as he began to take off his gloves. “This is a laia fruit. It’s the sort of thing you get picky kids to eat because it’s incredibly sweet, liken sickeningly sweet” he took the fruit back from her and handed her his gloves before digging his fingers into the top of the fruit and peeling it with a bit of difficulty from his shaky hands. “If anything is a good baseline it’s this”.
“And you’re not lying to me, it’s not actually super sour to you or anything?”
“I promise, would I lie to you?”
“I’ve talked to you twice before”.
“Fair point, I promise I’m not lying, but I have no clue what this’ll taste like to you”.
“Fine”.
“Here,” Ajaa held the fruit up to Julie’s face, “my hands are already a mess from the fruit, no need for you to be sticky too”.
Julie tentatively bit into the fruit. Texture of mango, flavor of soap. “Oh Fuck! That’s terrible!” Julie began spitting the fruit out onto the ground, cussing loudly the whole time.
Ajaa was howling with laughter, nearly to the point of falling off the wall of the fountain. “That was so much better than I thought it would be! How does it taste?” he had to stop to wipe a tear away from laughing so hard.
“Like soap you asshole!” Julie reached down into the fountain and splashed Ajaa a bit.
“Hey! No need for that!” he laughed, “Look, I didn’t know what it would taste like to you” he was grinning still as he started eating the fruit.
Julie could not help but smile, the fruit might have been revolting, but the experience of just hanging out with someone after spending the last few weeks feeling so alone was exactly what she needed.
Ajaa looked happy too, he was still smiling and laughing in between bites of fruit, his eyes got squinty when he laughed and there were juices running down his chin. He finished off the fruit and tossed the peel into a nearby garbage bin before sitting back down by Julie on the wall. “I’m sorry the fruit tasted bad, but it was a noble sacrifice for science”.
“You just wait until I bring you some human food for you to try, then we’ll see how funny it is”.
“I’ll try anything you bring, so worth your fruit reaction”. Ajaa rinsed off his hands in the fountain and dried them off on his pants, “Can I have my gloves back?”
“One condition: let me see your hands”.
“If you’re going to do  the thing where you hit me with my own hand, I’d rather you just shove me into the fountain or something”.
“If you weren’t like twice my size I’d consider it, but I actually just want to see your hand”.
Ajaa tentatively held out a hand, a bit unsure as to what Julie was up to.
She took his hand. It was the same dark blue as his face with purple speckling on the back of his hand and much larger than hers.
“Do you have three fingers or five?” Julie asked.
“Technically five, functionally three”.
“Do you know why?”
“Is that rhetorical where you’re going to tell me, or an actual question? Because I have no clue why evolution decided that my people should have three fingers fused together”.
Julie keep running her fingers over Ajaa’s hand, his skin was pretty thick, almost hide like, but there was a soft almost velvety-ness about his skin. “No, I was hoping you knew why. It doesn’t seem very advantageous to have three of your fingers fused. Does that make some fine motor movements hard?”
“Have you not noticed that my hands pretty much always shake? Most fine motor skills are hard and it’s not the fused fingers that are the problem”. His smile faded.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to bring anything up”.
“It’s fine. I’m used to it”. Ajaa took a deep breath, “I’d rather you forget that my hands shake and everything that’s up with me and ask questions like that instead of tip-toeing around it like everyone else”. He pulled his hand away from her’s. “Can I have my gloves back?”
Julie handed him his gloves, regretting not picking up on his hands shaking earlier. She had already known about his legs and back, she noticed his hands shaking when he peeled the fruit, but she had not put it together.
“Maybe that’s enough for today” Julie said.
“Why? Because you asked a question? Things happen, people say things without thinking or realizing and if I got all bent out of shape every time I’d be a pretty miserable person. Plus, I said I’d show you around Aya”.
“Where to next?”
Ajaa stood up and held out his hand to help her up “The best view in Aya” he smiled.
Julie took his hand and let him help her up, “Now we’re talking”.
The left the market and moved along the central path in this part of the city, making their way past the little restaurant in the middle of the city and the Repository of History.
“So where exactly is this place?” asked Julie.
“Just a little farther ahead, it’s by the Resistance headquarters” answered Ajaa.
They rounded the corner from the Repository and followed the path through a tunnel in the rocks.
“Wow, this is beautiful” Julie said, admiring the water running down the sides of the tunnel and the plants growing along the walls, “Is this natural, or carved out?”
“Carved out I believe, the city was built into the slope of an extinct volcano, much of the rock is cooled lava, so it’s pretty easy to carve”.
“It’s amazing regardless”.
“It really is”.
There was a comfortable silence between them during the last leg of their walk from the tunnel to an outlook next to the Resistance headquarters.
“This is what I wanted to show you” he gestured out to the planet below. “The lava fields. It’s beautiful in a odd way. That here in the city everything is so lush, and the planetside directly around the city and behind us is all dense jungle, and then there’s that”.
Julie looked out, the lava stretched out as far as she could see, occasionally disrupted by dying volcanoes and fire whirls, a stark juxtaposition to the jungle around them.
“Is it the vault that keeps this area green?” she asked.
“Probably, though Aya is highly volcanic even with the vault active so maybe this is how the planet is always supposed to be”.
“It is kind of beautiful in a way”.
“It has always put things into perspective for me” Ajaa began, “ever since I was little I liked to sit here and just think about things. It always amazed me that something so beautiful could exist amongst so much destruction, but the lava doesn’t mean to destroy things, it’s just the natural order. And as the volcanoes die and the lava cools the land is renewed, plants grow in the soil, they reclaim the scorched ground and life still finds a way, that the lava is what gave the ground the nutrients the it needed to support life and what created these mountains. It showed me that destruction doesn’t have to be an end, but that it can lead to beginnings too, and that sometimes there are things that are bigger than any of us, that regardless of who you were or what you have gone through that we are all part of something bigger and the universe doesn’t care about your scars”.
“Deep thoughts for a kid”.
“I had a lot of time to just sit and think when I was little”.
“It’s a good perspective on things” Julie looked up at Ajaa, “I like it”.
They stood in the same content silence for a while just watching the landscape and Julie mulled over what Ajaa had said. She had a feeling it was more personal than he was letting on, that it was about his injuries and recovery maybe, or perhaps about the angara as a whole. Either way, it was a good perspective on life.
“I promised Allya I wouldn’t be gone for too long, I should be getting back to the lab” Ajaa said, breaking the silence.
“We should do this again sometime” Julie said.
“I’d like that. It’s good talking to someone who hasn’t been caught up in this war, or the politics, or who treats me like I can’t do anything. You seem like a good person Julie, I hope I can call you my friend”.
“Same,” smiled Julie, “You’d be the first friend I’ve made in Heleus”.
“That would be an honor” Ajaa smiled back, “but for now I need to head back, I don’t need a lecture from Allya about shirking off to go have fun when everyone else is working. Give me a call the next time you’re free, I’m sure you still have questions to ask”.
“I will”.
“See you next time”.
“See you, Ajaa”.
Julie watched Ajaa walk off, noticing for the first time the slightly stiff way his legs moved when he walked. She still was not quite sure what had happened to him, but that was a conversation for another day. For now she was just happy to have a friend in Andromeda. Sure she did not have time talk to him about reincarnation more, or ask him about getting a houseplant, but those were things that could wait, for now she was more focused on that fact she felt a little less alone in this new galaxy. Ajaa may only be one person, but it was a start.

The Non-Surgical Nose Job
Tumblr media
Thriving cosmetic aesthetic techniques are invented at an accelerated pace due to popular demand. A social culture of instant gratification challenges the highly competitive industry for revolutionary medical breakthroughs. We anxiously await the next most anticipated and progressive developments. Brilliant minds such as leading facial cosmetic surgeon Dr. Rivkin have pioneered non-surgical facial procedures to cater to the lifestyle demands of patients.
For the first time, we are thrilled to share with our readers a new ‘NON-SURGICAL RHINOPLASTY’ procedure written and performed by industry expert Dr. Rivkin. A true master of his craft with unparalleled precision delivers astounding post care results which include little to NO PATIENT DOWNTIME, an “outpatient” experience all on an affordable one time doctor visit budget.
Traditional Asian Rhinoplasty Surgery
Rhinoplasty surgery for the Asian patient can be one of the most complicated procedures a rhinoplasty surgeon performs. Surgically changing the appearance of the Asian nose in a way that does not compromise the nasal structure and looks natural and subtle is not easy. The downtime, surgical risk, and expense of the procedure are considerable and the possible side effects are severe. Dr. Rivkin has treated many Asian patients who had received silicone implants as part of their surgery to raise their bridge. After the procedure, their implants became infected and had to be removed, leaving scarring and the same low bridge that they were trying to correct. They decided on Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty because operating on their nose a second time would have been much riskier and significantly less likely to produce a natural looking result. Dr. Rivkin developed and perfected the Asian Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty procedure to address the particular concerns of his Asian clientele. Dr. Rivkin is also the world’s expert on Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty. He has made this procedure his specialty and he has performed more of them over his twelve years in practice than anyone else.
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty is not a substitute for surgery and is not a procedure that will be appropriate for all patients. During the consultation, Dr. Rivkin will examine you and together you will decide if your goals can be met with the Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty procedure or if surgery would really be your best option.
Treating the Concerns of Asian and Asian-American Patients
About one-third of all Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty procedure clients Dr. Rivkin sees is Asian and he has tailored this variation of the procedure especially for them.
Dr. Rivkin explains, “The most common request we receive from our Asian patients is to raise and better define a low or wide nasal bridge. Clients come in saying that their glasses rest on their cheeks, that the tip of their nose looks too prominent, and that their face lacks balance because the nose is not well defined. A low nasal bridge emphasizes and brings attention to the nasal tip, making the tip appear larger than it really is. When the bridge is higher and better defined, the tip is no longer the major visible part of the nose. A well-defined bridge brings the tip into better proportion with the rest of the nose and makes it look smaller because the tip is no longer attracting as much attention. A defined bridge also makes the nose look stronger and more substantial, thereby making the face more proportional and symmetric. Finally, augmenting the nasal bridge permits sunglasses to rest on the nose instead of the cheeks.”
Providing Better Definition to Bridge and Tip
Many of our Asian clients also request better definition and less roundness to the tip of their nose. Some want their tip to be smaller. Changing the size and definition of the tip is not easy, but can be done in most cases. The challenge of improving the definition of the tip is to use filler very carefully so that there is no overall increase in size. Cortisone injections also help in reducing the size of the tip and making it appear less rounded and more square. Dr. Rivkin uses concentrated Kenalog mixed with 5-FU and Dexamethasone to improve the effect. The results of steroid injections are somewhat variable, but we do see benefits for most people. Another frequent request is to lower the nostrils so that the nostril openings are not so large and visible. This is possible using small amounts of filler in the proper areas.
The third area of concern for Asian clientele is the radix or very top of the nasal bridge. When it is low and not well defined, the complaint is that the nose looks short and the eyes look far apart. This is easily remedied using a filler injection to raise the bridge at that point.
Deciding on the Type of Filler
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty can be performed using a variety of fillers. Dr. Rivkin usually uses Voluma and Radiesse as the temporary fillers and Bellafill (formerly known as Artefill) as the permanent filler. He also sometimes uses Restylane Lyft (formerly known as Perlane). Lyft and Voluma are ideal for clients that are hesitant about the procedure because these hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved anytime with a simple enzyme injection. For most Asian Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty clients, Dr. Rivkin prefers to use Voluma or Radiesse at first and then switch to Bellafill after a year and a half to two years, when the temporary fillers have dissolved.
Unlike the other fillers, Bellafill requires a skin test a half hour before the procedure to make sure that you are not one of those very rare people who are allergic to the bovine collagen component of the filler. The procedure itself is the same as what is done with Voluma or Radiesse, but Bellafill settles somewhat after injection, so we usually need an average of three sessions to achieve the desired permanent effect.
