Chapter summary: Billy nearly ruins Tara’s birthday with his drunken antics… that is until Eddie swoops in and saves her special day. Unfortunately, his toxic girlfriend gets wind of it, leading to a confession brought on by morphine courage that leaves Tara absolutely bewildered.
Chapter warnings: partner abuse (Billy being emotionally abusive to Tara in the beginning and Brenda engaging in physical violence towards the end)
Sunday 4 November 1984 was Tara’s 17th birthday.
When she came home from her performance the previous day after dropping Alanna off, she went up to her room to find Billy passed out drunk on her bed with her mini fridge door wide open. There were beer cans all over the floor. Tara let out a heavy sigh before cleaning them all up. She decided to take a shower and change into her nightgown before dealing with him.
“Billy?” she asked, gently stroking his face to wake him.
His eyes flew open and the back of his palm clashed with Tara’s face, causing her to double over.
“Ow! Son of a biscuits! Billy!”
“Babe! You scared the shit out of me!” he slurred.
“Well, do you mind moving over so I can go to bed? I’m exhausted.”
“What are you talking about? There’s plenty of room!” he declared, drunkenly gesturing to his body. “Come on, babe! Get comfy!”
Tara sighed and got onto her bed, where Billy engulfed her in his arms. “My baby,” he slurred.
“Neil punched me today,” Billy said.
“What?”
“He told me I couldn’t see you anymore and I told him to go fuck himself… so he punched me…”
“Billy that’s awful!”
“No, it’s fine! I punched him back harder! He won’t be doing that shit again!”
Tara could smell the rancid alcohol on his breath and nearly puked as he kissed her. “Baby…”
“Yes?”
Silence.
“Billy?”
He was out cold. Passed out drunk again. Tara sighed and tried to nod off to sleep given the circumstances.
When Tara got up the next morning to start her birthday, she tried to rouse Billy with herbal tea.
“So, as you know, today is my birthday.”
“Babe, I’ve got a hangover worse than… fuck it. Ain’t nothing worse than this.”
“Well, I figured I could let you sleep in, go pick up some lunch from my favourite cafe and we can watch movies. Just have a lazy day.”
“Or you can draw the drapes, shut the fuck up and let me sleep this off.”
That hurt. Tara was really trying hard to meet Billy where he was, and once again, he chose to be a jerk.
“Fine. Sweet dreams.” Tara closed the door behind her and just cried.
She heard an engine pull up and there was a knock at the door.
When she went down to answer it, Eddie was there. “What? Seriously? You’re not even dressed yet?” he asked playfully.
“I’m sorry?”
“Did you get amnesia in that little head of yours? Don’t you remember what day it is?”
“Sunday?”
“Come on. I know you’ve got a nice little birthday outfit picked out. Why don’t you go put it on and come on down to the van for your birthday surprise?”
Maybe it was the way he wore that Jean Jacket and that Dio shirt, maybe it was his cute puppy dog eyes or maybe it was something all together different, but she did what he asked so it had to be something.
When she came back down, it was in a pretty pink birthday outfit.
“Well, don’t you look absolutely stunning? Come on, princess. After you,” he said, opening the passenger side door.
After making sure she’s all strapped in, Eddie started up the van.
“Feel free to peruse my music collection.”
Tara looked through the tapes to see if she found anything she would like. Most of it, of course, was all the kind of stuff her brother would enjoy. Not that she didn’t also enjoy that type of music, possibly because she always heard it blasting from her brother’s room, but she was hoping to come across something more her taste.
At last, she found something she could enjoy. She slid the tape in the radio and hit play.
“The Lady Lies” by Genesis began blasting through the speakers.
“Genesis, huh? Excellent choice, sweetheart!”
“I love Genesis! Phil Collins is amazing!”
“Yeah. Some of Peter Gabriel’s stuff is good, too, but yeah. Phil Collins. He’s the man.”
“Where are we going if you don’t mind me asking?”
“Darling, it’s called a surprise for a reason.”
“Is it a good surprise?”
“It’s your birthday, right?”
The van pulled over on the side of the road. Eddie took a black skull bandanna out of his glove compartment.
“I’m gonna have to ask you to step out of the van for a sec, princess.”
“Okay?”
Tara stepped out and Eddie proceeded to blindfold her with the bandana. She could only hear the occasional passing vehicle when he then grabbed her and spun her around a few times.
“There we go! Come on, beautiful. Back in the van, you go!”
The van went a little bit further when it stopped. Eddie popped out from the driver’s side and helped Tara out of the passenger’s side. He took Tara’s hand and led the way. She tried to use her other senses to figure out what the surprise was. She heard sliding doors. Okay she was entering a building. There were clearly other people there.
“Shush!” she heard. That was DEFINITELY Robin’s voice.
“Are you ready, princess?”
“As I’ll ever be.”
Eddie stopped and reached for her blindfold. He yanked it off, and she was bombarded by a collective “Surprise!”
Sure enough, Robin was there. So was Daniel, Alanna and the Hellfire Club. There was a banner that said “Happy 17th Birthday Daniel and Tara!”
“Oh my gosh!” Tara exclaimed. “How did you even plan this?”
“Well to be honest, we kinda counted on your shitty boyfriend dropping the ball today. Seems he didn’t disappoint,” Daniel said.
Tara took in her surroundings. She was in a roller rink. “Dancing Queen” by ABBA began playing over the sound system. She was in disbelief.
“Come on,” Alanna shouted. “Let’s skate already!”
“Of course, you’re raring to go, Miss Roller Derby Champion!” Eddie teased.
Tara had an amazing time. There was skating, presents, nothing too extravagant, though, considering they were all still high schoolers, and when it was time to cut the cake, Tara was in for another pleasant surprise.
“Ice cream cake!”
“Your favourite!” Daniel remarked.
“Hey! You like it, too!” Tara retorted.
“I don’t hate it,” he shrugged.
They sung happy birthday, blew out the candles and Tara sat down across Eddie with her cake. She swore she could recognise the song playing on the sound system, but couldn’t put her finger on it.
“Are you having a good birthday so far, sweetheart?”
“I am…” Tara sighed. “I just wish Billy was here.”
“He’s an idiot. He doesn’t know what he has.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, if I had a girlfriend like you, I’d be a hell of a lot more grateful than he seems to be.”
“Don’t you have a girlfriend? Where is she, anyway?”
“This isn’t about Brenda,” he said, his posture suddenly slightly uncomfortable.
Eddie took her hand and her heart began to flutter as she felt her cheeks get hot.
“I wanna know what love is. I want you to show me. I wanna feel what love is. I know you can show me,” the sound system played.
Ah, of course. “I wanna know what love is” by Foreigner.
Eddie gently stroked her hand with his thumb.
“Are you even happy with him?”
“I… I don’t know… we have good moments sometimes…”
“Do you love him?”
“I… I… I don’t know anymore…”
“Then why stay with him?”
“Eddie! My ice cream cake is gonna melt!”
Tara quickly scarfed down the cake, very keen on avoiding his question.
“Looks like you got more of it on you than in you,” Eddie teased, wiping her mouth.
Tara groaned, holding her head.
“Ouch. Looks like someone’s got brainfreeze,” he chuckled.
But when Tara fell over, he became concerned. “You okay?”
No response.
“Tara?”
He rushed to her side.
“Whoah, there,” he sat her up.
“Breathe. Sunflower. Three to the right. Four to the left. Rainbow. 450.”
“Tara? Hello?” Eddie shook her.
“Breathe. Sunflower. Three to the right. Four to the left. Rainbow. 450.”
Eddie shook her harder. “Tara, wake up!”
“Breathe. Sunflower. Three to the right. Four to the left. Rainbow. 450.”
“Earth to Tara Newman! Hello!”
Blood ran down her nose as the lights began to flicker.
“Hello?” Tara canvassed the darkness around her.
“Breathe. Sunflower. Three to the right. Four to the left. Rainbow. 450.”
“Who’s there?” she asked.
“Breathe. Sunflower. Three to the right. Four to the left. Rainbow. 450.”
Tara saw a woman in a nightgown rocking in a chair.
“Breathe. Sunflower. Three to the right. Four to the left. Rainbow. 450.”
Tara approached the woman, who looked at her.
“Breathe. Sunflower. Three to the right. Four to the left. Rainbow. 450.”
The woman looked to her right, and Tara turned her head to see what she was looking at.
It was the little girl from the other day, but she looked different.
For lack of a better phrase, she looked like she had just been playing dress up with Eddie or Daniel.
Tara approached her when a booming voice dragged her out of her state.
“TARA WAKE UP!”
Tara snapped back to reality to find Eddie literally shaking her so hard he could probably give her whiplash.
Tara caught her breath and looked at him.
“Are you okay?” he asked, handing her a tissue to wipe her nose.
“I… think so?” Tara said, wiping her face.
“Do you smell burnt toast at all?” he asked.
“No?”
“How many fingers am I holding up?”
“Three.”
Eddie sighed in relief.
That relief was unfortunately short lived when the party heard someone bust through the door.
“EDDIE YOU CHEATING BASTARD!”
Eddie looked over to see Brenda with a cohort who she had presumably gotten a ride from.
“Oh great,” he said sarcastically, rubbing his eyes.
“You son of a bitch!” Brenda called, beelining towards him.
“Brenda, you’re doing this at my best friend’s birthday party,” Eddie said, raising his hands to show he meant no harm.
“And who is that?” Brenda asked, pointing to Tara.
“My sister,” Daniel said flatly. “We’re twins. You know, that thing where two babies are born at once?”
“Shut up, Daniel! I wasn’t talking to you! Wait a sec, you’re the slut from Tina’s Halloween party!”
“Whoah!” Eddie exclaimed, keeping his hands raised. “Why don’t we have a long overdue conversation?” he asked, taking Brenda’s hand and leading her outside of the building.
He lit up a cigarette to calm his nerves.
“Well, talk!” Brenda demanded.
Eddie took a deep drag from his cigarette and exhaled.
“Brenda, here’s the thing. Things were great at first. The sex was decent, we had fun dates, all that good shit. But then you started accusing me of cheating anytime I even got within 10 feet of another woman. The time you literally fought the waitress at Waffle House when she was just doing her job? The time you tried to get the cashier at Melvald’s fired for asking me how my day was when she’s old enough to be my mom? Hell, just yesterday, you literally choked me for staying late at Daniel’s house.”
“Well, you’re supposed to be MY boyfriend!” Brenda retorted defensively.
“Look, I’ve had my mind made up about this since this morning. I think it would be best if you unpacked this rampant insecurity of yours before trying to be in a relationship.”
“What are you saying? Are you breaking up with me?!”
“I have to, Brenda. This isn’t good for either of us.”
“But… Eddie…” Tears welled up in Brenda’s eyes.
“Look,” Eddie let out a heavy sigh. “I know it hurts. Believe me. I’m fully aware that I’m a catch. But this is for the best.”
“I’m gonna kill myself!” Brenda said. “You hear me? I’m gonna kill myself and it’s gonna be your fault!”
Eddie thought back to the many times he broke every traffic law known to man to rush to Brenda when she said those things.
“I’m sorry, Brenda. I really am. I really wanted this to work, but I just can’t anymore.”
With that, Eddie stomped out his cigarette and went back inside, leaving Brenda to sob.
She began to seethe. All she wanted was a little loyalty and now he was leaving her? That was it. She stomped her way back inside, eye makeup streaking her face.
“Eddie!” she called. Once she had his attention, she jabbed him particularly hard in the gut, causing him to double over.
“Oh… god…” Eddie groaned, clutching his side.
“Jesus, she punched you hard,” Gareth said, crouching to his side, his voice trailing off when he saw blood ooze out.
He looked back to see Brenda’s fist drizzled with blood. She was holding small blade between her fingers.
Once people realised what was happening, things became a nightmare. One of the members of Hellfire restrained Brenda with a bear hug when she lunged at Tara with the blade.
“Let me go!” Brenda demanded.
“Nope. Can’t do that.”
Gareth and Daniel were at Eddie’s side.
“The paramedics are on their way! Just hold on, man! You’re gonna pull through!”
“Gareth,” Eddie chuckled weakly. “Shut the fuck up.”
Once the paramedics arrived, they examined Eddie’s stab wound.
“This doesn’t look too bad. We’re gonna take you to the hospital and get you stitched up. Just keep this pressed on your wound. The police will be here shortly to deal with your little friend.”
CHOMP.
“OW! Son of a bitch!”
The one member of Hellfire was forced to let her go. He winced at the bite mark as she ran off.
Tara waited anxiously in the waiting room when Wayne walked through.
“What happened?” he asked.
“His girlfriend stabbed him!” Tara hyperventilated.
“What? Goddamn it. I told that boy she was trouble!”
“For Eddie Munson?” A nurse called.
Tara and Wayne were led into a hospital room where Eddie was laid down with supplemental oxygen and an IV in his arm. His clothes were put in a plastic bag.
“Hey, Uncle Wayne!” he slurred.
“Why is he talking all funny like that?” he asked.
“We gave him morphine,” the doctor said.
A police officer poked his head through the door.
“Miss Newman, did you already give your statement to the police?” the doctor asked.
“Yeah. I did that back at the rink.”
“Yeah, we talked to her,” the officer confirmed. “We need to get a statement from you and from his dad as well.”
“I’m his uncle,” Wayne said, clearly taking offence. “Not his shit dad.”
Wayne and the doctor left the room, leaving Tara alone with the morphine drunk Eddie.
Tara sighed in disbelief, still reeling from the roller coaster of a day she had. “I can’t believe Brenda would do this. And on my birthday!”
“I never thought I’d drive a girl so nuts that she’d stab me for dumping her!” Eddie slurred.
“How much morphine did they give you?” Tara asked, raising a brow.
“Eh, don’t worry about it!” Eddie said, waving off a hand that flopped onto the hospital bed.
“Maybe they should stop the drip—“
“No!” Eddie protested. “Forget about that! I have something important to tell you, but…” Eddie looked left and right, shifting his body in a comical fashion, “it’s a secret, so you gotta come closer.”
Tara was confused but decided to play ball and slightly lean forward.
“Closer.”
Tara leaned more.
“Closer.”
Tara continued to inch forward and Eddie let out a frustrated groan.
“Way closer! You’re too far away.”
“Eddie, if I get that close, I’m invading your personal space.”
“Forget ‘personal space’! This is important!” he declared.
“Okay,” Tara sighed, exasperated before getting practically nose to nose with him. “Is this close enough?” she asked in an exaggerated whisper.
“Perfect!” he surged forward and kissed her.
Tara pulled back in shock.
“I’ve seen how Hargrove treats you. I’ve seen him drink and make out with other girls and slap you silly when you call him out.” Eddie looks up at Tara, and she can tell from the look in his big brown eyes he has been sitting on this for quite a while.
“I would never do that. I would put you on a pedestal, show the world you were my girl, and tell anyone else to back off because I only had eyes for you. You’d be my one and only.”
Tara looked away as tears welled up in her eyes while he continued.
“And the only time I would ever put hands on you would be to hold you in my arms and make you feel like the only girl in the world,”
Tears ran down Tara’s cheek as he continued.
“and I would stroke your hair and keep you safe and…”
The rest of what Eddie said was mostly unintelligible and when Tara wiped her eyes and turned back around, he was asleep.
Tara put her fingers to her lips in disbelief. She looked over at Eddie, who was out cold.
Wayne came back in to see Tara wiping her eyes.
“Hey! What did that boy say to you?” he asked, concerned.
“Nothing that made sense. I should get going.”
“Come on. I’ll drive you home.”
“Are you sure? I don’t want to be any trouble.”
“It’s no trouble at all, little lady.”
Wayne’s pickup truck pulled up at Tara’s house and he waited until she got in safe before driving away.
Tara went upstairs to head to bed. It was empty. Billy went home. Thank god.
Tara collapsed onto her bed and nodded off.

WHY DID THE AUTHOR KILL YOU OFF?
Tumblr media
Morals=Mortality
Every story has themes, with lessons within those themes. Your death was in service of one (or more) of these, your life made forfeit in favor of imparting wisdom... or what the author presented as wisdom. Were you too kind? Too trusting? Too forgiving? Did a cruel author kill you to prove that happy endings do not exist? Or were you too proud to ask for help? Too angry to let the past go? Did the author hold a mirror up to the protagonist, showing them your death where the reflection was supposed to go? On one hand, your death is pitiable, for it does not belong to you. On the other, you have been granted a gift many spend their whole lives searching for: A purpose. May you find comfort and truth within the circumstances of your demise (and may we all).
Tumblr media
Death As Redemption
Some things cannot be forgiven. What a shame, then, that so many consider forgiveness to be the be-all, end-all of character redemptions. Or that forgiveness in itself is the redemption. Whatever sins you committed, whatever actions weigh your soul down, the author has decided that you cannot make up for it... and so they will not let you try. No, you will not even be allowed to try and put as much positivity into the world as possible (you cannot restore the balance, but surely you could do something?). Instead, there is only one thing to do: Sacrifice yourself. You'll take a bullet meant for the hero, or tackle the villain off a cliff (dooming you both), or you'll use the last of your magic to get everyone else out safely. When the heroes speak of your death, they will act as if you have undone all your wrongs, as if dying was the holiest gift you were capable of giving. I cannot help but wonder... how much more could you have done, if you had only been given the chance?
Tumblr media
Somebody Had To Go
Sorry, kid. Really, honestly, I'm sorry. Someone had to die, for one reason or another, and you drew the short straw this time around. This wasn't a matter of surprise. No, your death wasn't meant to be a shock, wasn't meant to rattle the audience to their core. Your life was a debt, an obligation. Somebody had to go, because the story needed weight, needed sacrifice, needed the conflict to have consequences. Maybe you had the perfect balance of "emotional impact" and "lack of loose ends", or maybe the author just didn't know what else to do with you. Regardless... you deserved better. Another writer could have given you more time and a better death, if even a death at all. At least your fans will never forget- at least they will forge their own stories, tales in which you live to see another day.

Eddie Munson x Reader
Description: Eddie is dating the girl he's been pinning over for years- Chrissy Cunningham. What happens when a new girl enters his life?
Word Count: 3k
--------
Chrissy and Eddie have been dating for a good few months now and they both truly are happy. Eddie had been crushing on her since their middle school talent show and was insanely surprised when she came to him to buy drugs. The Chrissy Cunningham High buying drugs from him? He couldn’t believe it.
Not long after their first deal, Chrissy started to realize that she really enjoyed Eddie’s company. One thing led to another and soon enough the freak of Hawkins High was dating the queen of Hawkins High.
Though they were dating and loved spending time together they still always made sure to have time for their friends. Hence why Eddie still sits at the hellfire table for lunch (also totally not because the majority of the popular kids hate him).
One day during lunch as Eddie is sitting at the front of the table, munching on his pretzels, Dustin, Lucas, and Mike join him. “Hey, fellas.” Eddie says as the boys start eating their unpleasantly looking school lunch. They talk about DND for a good minute until Dustin turns around mid-conversation when he notices Y/N sit down at the table next to theirs.
“Hey, Y/N!”
“Hey there, Dustin.” Y/N replies as she takes off her headphones and gives him a friendly smile. Mike and Lucas then notice her as well and say their hellos. Eddie looks back and forth between the boys and this girl, Y/N. He takes in her appearance and notices the eyeliner, dark denim jeans, and the loosely hung Black Sabbath t-shirt. How the hell did these boys know this girl and why has he never seen her around?
She turns back to her own table and puts her headphones back on. He can briefly hear Judas Priest coming through them before being interrupted by Gareth sharing some more DND ideas.
—
After school he walks Chrissy to her cheer practice before heading over to the drama room to set up for the upcoming hellfire session tonight. In there he spots Dustin who is also usually there sometimes to help Eddie set up. “Hey, man.” Eddie greets. “Hey, Eddie. I already set up everyone’s character sheets.” “Thanks, Henderson.”
As Eddie and Dustin continue to set up, the question from earlier still lingers on Eddie’s mind. Who was that girl? ‘Might as well ask’, he thinks to himself.
“Henderson, who was that girl you guys were saying hi to at lunch?”
“Oh, Y/N? We’ve known her for a few years now. She’s friends with Jonathan Byers so we met her by association. She’s really cool though. I’m surprised you guys have never met considering you have a lot in common. But why do you ask?” Dustin says as he pulls out some dice.
“Was just curious. Never seen her around.”
“Yeah, she can be more on the quiet and loner side, but she’s great when you get to know her.”
Hellfire went pretty good as Eddie had been playing that campaign for weeks now. The boys and Erica have already left by now, but he stayed back to clean up. As he’s putting away their chairs he hears the drama room doors open. In walks her. Y/N.
“Oh, hi! Sorry, didn’t know you guys were doing hellfire today. I’m just setting some things up for the talent show this weekend.” She says. That’s when Eddie notices her carrying two guitars and an amp. “Don’t worry, you’re all good. Just cleaning up. You want some help with that?” “Please,” she says with a breathy laugh, “carrying these all at once is not easy.” “Oh, trust me I know. I play in a band.” He says as he walks over to take the amp out of her arm.
They walk to the stage and as Eddie plugs in the amp Y/N sets up the guitars. Wanting to break the silence, Y/N asks, “So, you’re in a band. What do you play?” “Guitar. I also help write some of our songs.” Y/N looks up at him with a smile and says, “No way! I also play guitar and write songs. Though, it’s just for fun. I’m not in a band or anything.” Eddie looks shocked at this. He’s never met a girl that’s been into music like this, not to mention music that he likes. “That’s sick! Think I could hear one of your songs one day?” “Only if I get to hear one of yours.”
Continuing their conversation, they’re eventually interrupted when the drama doors open once again, this time revealing Chrissy. “Hey, babe!” Chrissy cheers and she walks over to give Eddie a hug. “Hey, Chris. How was practice?” Y/N watches as the obvious couple interact, slightly disappointed in the fact that he has a girlfriend. But Y/N isn’t the one to overstep boundaries and disrespect someone’s relationship, so she pushes those thoughts to the back of her mind.
“Bye, Eddie, it was nice meeting you.” Y/N says with a smile as she starts to leave.
“You too, Y/N.”
It's been a few weeks since the first interaction, but over those few weeks the two have created a friendship. They hang out every now and then, Eddie sharing his time between Y/N, Chrissy, and his hellfire friends.
This day in particular, Y/N and Eddie finally decided to act upon the deal they made when they first met, which was to hear each other's music. Eddie invited her over, but Y/N declined. She thought it’d be rude to hang out one on one with a man who is in a relationship inside his own home. Eddie understood where she was coming from, but assured her Chrissy knew. Still, she stuck to her word and the two agreed to meet up in the drama room after school instead.
“So, you wanna go first?” Y/N asks as the both of them sit criss cross on the stage floor, both holding guitars in their lap. “Why not.” Eddie replies as he takes his guitar pick off his neck and starts strumming. He opted to playing a more simple rock song of his rather than metal as he thought it’d be way too extra. When it came down to Y/N’s turn, she stuck to more of one of her indie-rock songs.
“You’re better than I thought you’d be.” Eddie says with a playful grin.
 “Same for you, Munson.”
“I’d like to state for the record, that was an easy song I played. I’m usually ten times more metal.” He says with a slight smirk, “You should really come watch me and my band play some time. We perform at the Hideout on Tuesdays. Maybe you could even perform one of your songs.”
“I’d love to watch you guys play, but as for me performing, hard pass. I’d rather stick to putting on a show for my stuffed animals rather than real people.” Y/N replies with a smile and small laugh.
“Oh, come on! I’ll be there to cheer you on. I bet your stuffed animals can’t do that.”
Y/N let out a dramatic playful gasp and jokingly says, “What?! Peter the pig always makes sure to give me a round-of-applause.” The two share a laugh and Eddie replies, “Fine. You can stick to your stuffed animal crowd. As for me, I can pick you up around seven after I pick up Chrissy, if that’s fine with you?”
“Sounds perfect.”
Tuesday comes around and Y/N is patiently waiting on her couch for Eddie. She eventually hears loud heavy rock music coming from outside and takes that as her cue to grab her things, not forgetting her guitar. Even though she said she didn't want to perform, she decided she wanted to surprise Eddie tonight by performing a new song of hers.
She runs outside and slides open the van door and greets Eddie and Chrissy as she goes to sit in the back. Soon enough they’re there and Eddie is parking the van. “I’m just gonna go help the boys set up. Are you guys good with waiting inside for a few minutes?” Eddie asks as they all start getting out of the van. “Yeah, that’s fine, Eds.” Chrissy replies back with a smile. Y/N had a few interactions with Chrissy since becoming friends with Eddie and from what she can tell, she’s the sweetest girl Y/N ever met. Eddie is a real lucky man, she must say.
As Y/N and Chrissy start walking inside, Chrissy notices the guitar case. “Oh, you’re playing too?!” Chrissy cheerfully asks. “Yeah, but don’t tell Eddie. Was gonna surprise him.” Y/N happily replies back, hoping that that didn’t upset Chrissy. Thankfully, Chrissy saw no problem with it and the two headed inside.
Chrissy takes a seat at one of the tables while Y/N places her guitar case next to the stage. They patiently wait and talk for a little bit as they wait for Eddie’s band. Soon enough, they hear the name ‘Corroded Coffin’ being announced on stage.
You watch as Eddie pours his heart and soul into his performance as his passion for guitar shines through. Chrissy wishes she could watch as deeply as you are, but she can’t help but pay attention to how whenever Eddie looks down at their table, his eyes travel to Y/N.
The band finished up their last song and then walked off stage. As Eddie is putting his guitar back in his case, he hears the bar owner announce, “We have one more performance tonight! Please welcome, Y/N!”. Eddie perks up at this and immediately his attention is on the stage. Chrissy sees this. She nervously plays with the ribbon in her hair and looks at how Eddie’s eyes never left you as you walk onto the stage with your guitar.
Chrissy knows Eddie loves her, no doubt about it, but seeing the way Y/N and Eddie have bonded over the past few weeks, she knew his love for her was slowly decaying. They had so much in common, she should have seen it coming sooner. And Chrissy being the sweet girl that she is, couldn’t bring herself to be mad at it. She’s had her fair experiences with love and is well aware that you can’t choose who you fall for.
She brings her focus back to the stage as Y/N starts playing guitar and eventually singing her most recent lyrics. ‘They even have similar writing styles’, Chrissy thinks to herself. She sighs and looks down at her hands. She loves Eddie, but this isn’t right. Chrissy isn’t the girl he wants anymore. Those years he spent pinning over her have gone to waste, which hurts Chrissy to admit.
She looked over at Eddie and that’s all it took for her to accept what was going to have to happen. His eyes were so full of admiration, lust, and love. The same way he used to look at her.
Y/N walks off stage and Eddie immediately runs to her and gives her a hug so big he’s picking her off the ground. Y/N is first to break it as she knows Chrissy is right behind them. Chrissy notices this and sadly smiles to herself. She can’t even blame Y/N. She could tell how Y/N always made sure to respect their relationship and set boundaries. Y/N always made sure Eddie was spending more time with Chrissy than he was with her, she always made sure Eddie still walked Chrissy to practice after school even when he would offer to walk Y/N to her car, and she always made sure Eddie never stopped showing his love to Chrissy.
Chrissy feels a tear slide down her face but quickly wipes it when the two of them start making their way over.
“You guys were great!”, Chrissy cheers.
“Thank you.” Both Eddie and Y/N say, almost in sync.
They finish up their night at the hideout with some fries and drinks then eventually head back out to Eddie’s van. Y/N is first to be dropped off which leaves the couple alone.
 “Eddie?”, Chrissy says sadly.
“Yeah, Chris?” Eddie replies as he head bops to the music playing on the car radio.
“We need to talk.”
Eddie pulls up to Chrissy's house and stops the van in her driveway. “So, what did you want to talk about?” He asks.
 “I think we should break up.”
Eddie sits in shock for a few moments before turning to face Chrissy and asks why. “Eddie, you know I love you and I know you have love for me. But you’re no longer in love with me.”, Chrissy says with watery eyes.
“Woah, woah, woah. What makes you think that, Chris?” Eddie says as he reaches for Chrissy’s hand, only for her to pull it away. “Don’t pretend like you don’t know, Eds. You like her, don’t you?”
At her words, Eddie looks down, refusing to make eye contact. His silence confirms Chrissy’s question.
“It’s okay, Eddie.” “No, it’s not. It wasn’t supposed to go this way.” Eddie’s eyes start to gather tears as he still has yet to look up at Chrissy. “What do you mean?” Chrissy asks with furrowed eyebrows. “I mean,” he sighs before continuing, “I’ve had a crush on you for as long as I can remember. Never once have I ever felt that way towards another girl, so when me and you got together, I was the happiest man in the world. I truly started to believe that opposites do attract,” He finally looks up at Chrissy as he says, “but I think that’s only because I thought there was no other girl out there that was like me. But then I met Y/N.” Chrissy looks at him with sad eyes, but a soft smile. Eddie returns a sad smile back. “I really am sorry, Chris. This isn’t how I meant for things to go. But I do want you to know I truly was happy with you and I enjoyed our time together.” “It’s okay, Eddie. And me too. I don’t want to trap you in a relationship that you don’t want to be in.”
They sit in awkward, yet somewhat comforting silence for a moment before Chrissy asks one last question, “When did you know you fell for her?” “Today, actually. At the hideout.” This somewhat shocked Chrissy as she would've thought it’d be way earlier, though she lets Eddie continue, “Sure, these past few weeks my crush for her did start to develop, but it felt wrong considering I’m with- or well, I was with you, so I pushed the thought of being with her to the back of my mind. But seeing her today on that stage, I couldn’t hide it from myself anymore.” Eddie says, looking at his lap, somewhat disappointed at himself. He had been chasing Chrissy for years, and once he finally got the girl his heart decides to do a whole u-turn on him.
“Again, Chrissy, I really am sorry.”
“It’s okay, Eddie. It’s okay. Go get her.” Chrissy says with a happier smile this time. Even though the smile was definitely forced, Eddie smiled back and gave Chrissy one last hug as a goodbye.
Eddie pulls out of Chrissy’s driveway and heads straight for Y/N’s house.
He climbs to her bedroom window and knocks. Y/N opens her curtains, not surprised to see Eddie as he surprised her with a similar visit a week ago for a quick smoke sesh. She opens the window and welcomes him in.
“Hey, Y/N.” He pants out, slightly out of breath from climbing through your window.
“What’s up, Eddie?” Y/N asks. She notices Eddie is fidgeting with the rings on his fingers, a habit of his she recently noticed.
“I wanted to talk to you about something. About us.” He says, head down as he can’t bring himself to make eye contact. He notices the shift in Y/N’s stance, sensing that she probably has an idea of what he’s about to say.
“I like you.”
 She sighs before saying, “Eddie-”
“I know,” Eddie cuts her off, “I know, I know, me and Chrissy. But we broke up.” Y/N looks up at him with shocked eyes and says, “What?! Why would you dump her for me?” Eddie grabs both of Y/N’s hands into his and looks her in the eye as he says, “She dumped me, Y/N.” Y/N takes her hands from his and puts them in her hair, slightly panicking. “No, no, no, no, I feel like a homewrecker, Eddie. This is wrong.” “I know it is, but I can’t control my feelings, Y/N.”
He sits on the edge of her bed. She takes a seat next to him and deeply sighs. “I don’t even know what to say, Eddie.” He looks down at her and puts her hand in his once again. “Just say how you feel. If you don’t feel the same way, it’s fine. I can get up and leave and pretend this conversation didn’t even happen.” Y/N sighs once again as she responds, “Eddie, I like you too. But this feels so wrong.”
Eddie’s heart lightens at her confession. He smiles to himself before saying, “It’s all up to you, love. If it makes you feel any better, this was all Chrissy’s idea. I don’t want you to think she hates you for taking me away from her. None of this is your fault, okay?” He places a finger under her chin and lifts her face up to meet him eye to eye. He can tell how her eyes are full of so many different emotions right now, but he gives her a reassuring look.
“As much as I hate to admit it, I want to be with you, Eddie.”
“That’s all you had to say, sweetheart.” He replies with a smile, slowly bringing her face to his and letting their lips connect.
Y/N feels the guilt seep into her gut as she kisses Eddie, but can’t bring herself to stop. She had been crushing on this boy the moment she laid eyes on him. Sitting at the table next to his was totally not on purpose. She of course feels for Chrissy, but when Eddie and Y/N walked into school the next day hand in hand, she saw Chrissy give her a genuine smile and a thumbs up, and all of a sudden the guilt slowly started to disappear.

King!Steve Harrington x reader, he asks the reader out because of a bet. Happy ending!!!
I hope this is what you wanted and you enjoy it. Thank you for requesting 🫶🏻
Drunk bet
Tumblr media
Steve had a reputation in Hawkins High, and he loved it. He loved the attention from the girls and the respect from the jocks. He was cocky and smug whenever eyes watched him as he walked. He was the King and there was a line of girls wanting to be the Queen.
He could get anyone he wanted, and he had many choices. He liked the way girls chased him and all he had to do was send a smile their way.
Steve was drunk at a party, betting money on games of beer pong. If he was sober, he would remember that he was awful at that game. Hundreds of bills slapped down on the table as he missed another cup.
"Nice playing with you, Harrington" Billy smirked as he collected the money.
"Wait! Come on, rematch!" Steve slurred
"It's fun kicking your ass, but you have no more money to bet" Billy laughed
"My dad will kick my ass knowing I lost all of that. What do you want to bet on? I'll do anything to win that back," Steve said
Billy gave it a thought, he had King Steve in the palm of his hand. "Alright, Steve. I'll give you everything back if you ask out Y/N and date her for three months. Hundred for each month. We have a deal?"
"No way! If I go out with her, my reputation goes straight into the mud" Steve fought.
The thing was, Y/N was a very pretty girl. But she was nowhere near the popular crowd. And dating within the popular crowd was acceptable, dating outside of the circle was immediate destruction. He'd lose his King title.
He didn't know that Billy knew all of that. Billy wanted to be the king of Hawkins. He could take Steve down in every aspect. Steve felt stuck because he knew his father would be pissed about the money. Maybe Steve could complete the bet without anyone knowing he was seeing her.
Billy stood there with a smirk when Steve sighed and shook his hand.
~~~
Monday rolled around and Steve had to put his plan into motion. He didn't know too much about Y/N but he knew they shared a few classes together. All he had to do was get her alone, turn on his charm, and ask her out.
He waited in the hallway until it died out, slipping next to her locker when she wasn't looking.
"Hey,"
She jumped as she heard his voice, turning to see him standing there with a smile on his face. She was skeptical but stayed polite.
"Hey Steve, what's up?" She asked, closing her locker and then leaning against it.
"I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go out tonight? You can come to my place and I can cook us something"
Y/N was swooning from Steve's smile and the smell of his cologne right under her nose. She couldn't believe that Steve was interested in her.
"I would love to," she smiled, maybe all those small waves and hellos meant something to him.
"Perfect. How about you give me your number and we can talk about details after school." He said
"Sure!"
Steve smiled at how excited she was, this was going to be easy. He let her softly grab his hand and write down her number. The pen tickled his skin as she wrote on his skin.
"Call you later," he said as he pushed off the locker, sending her a wink that made her heart race.
~
Y/N arrived at the address Steve said over the phone. She was nervous as she walked up to his house. She knocked on his door and anxiously waited.
"Welcome to my casa!" Steve said as he opened the door and allowed her to walk through. It was a beautiful home, very clean and everything had a shine.
"I hope you like pizza, I've got a great recipe," he said as he trailed off to the kitchen. Y/N followed but was still in awe of the house.
"Pizza sounds great," Y/N said, Steve pulled out a chair at the counter and motioned her to sit. She sat and took in his cute apron and the towel hanging over his shoulder.
"Do you like to cook?" She asked, her eyes following him as he checked on the oven
"I love it" he replied, "parents are barely home and I got tired of take out and frozen meals." He shrugged
Y/N couldn't help but frown. She wondered if he ever got lonely, but he was popular so maybe not.
"Can I help with anything?" She asked, standing up and walking over to him. Steve smiled at her, he could see the excitement sparkling in her eyes. He already has her wrapped around his finger.
~
A month flew by and Steve believed he had this bet in the bag. Since he was always home alone, he'd ask her to come over. She didn't question why they never went anywhere and that made it easy.
He didn't have much interest in her, but he did like her company. She was funny and was fun. There was never a dull moment with her and Steve didn't realize how much fun he needed in his life.
A few weeks into the first month he kissed her.
It was soft and slow. She didn't know where to put her hands but once she got more comfortable she touched him. He kissed her a few times, letting her grow more comfortable with him and adding anything she wanted to the kiss.
~
Two months in he asked her to be his girlfriend. She said yes without a second thought, just like he thought.
He started taking her out on dates, but only in private areas. Private waterfalls for picnics and driving into another town. She saw it as all adventures. She loved to explore and her heart raced by how much Steve seemed to want to explore with her.
~
Three months in Steve felt it.
He felt a little spark when he kissed her. When she held his hand as they jumped into the cold water below, he felt warm everywhere. The sound of her laughter as they plunged into the water made him smile.
He started loving the long drives. Singing with her and dancing at red lights. He started to feel happy when he saw the excitement in her eyes when she took in something new.
How he wished he had a camera to take a picture every time she smiled at him.
They had a few drinks one night, cuddled on his living room floor as the fire roared. Lately, the bet has been the last thing on his mind and it certainly was right now. The way her skin glowed from the fire. Her shoulder was exposed from her shirt, and without thinking he leaned down and kissed the skin.
He felt something burn inside him when she moaned. Then it became the only thing on his mind, making her moan and moan again.
They had sex on the floor in front of the fire, the beer bottles scattered on the floor. His forehead was against hers as he pushed himself in and out of her.
~
Steve knew he'd have to face Billy now that the three months were up. He didn't want to break up with her, he liked her and he liked her a lot. He knew he fucked up with how they started and he planned for her to never know.
Billy pulled up to his house, honking the horn as he got out.
Steve groaned as he rolled out of bed. Y/N was asleep, so he quickly left the room. He raced out to make Billy stop the honking. Once Billy saw him, he stopped.
He had a big smirk as he took in Steve's appearance.
"My oh my, sex hair and scratches? Someone had a good time," Billy chuckled.
"Look, I'm out of the bet. Keep the money and we're even." Steve said
"Oh, why? Fucked her and now you're in love?" Billy scoffed, "King Harrington settles for the pretty nerd."
"Billy, just stop. You get to keep the money, so let's keep this between us. She doesn't have to know" Steve hissed
"Alright, man. I'll keep this little bet between us, but what's your plan? Gonna have to start taking her out in public at one point, people will see and your reputation is doomed. And also," he said, stepping closer to Steve as he lowered his voice, "she's right behind you."
Steve gulped as he was fast to turn around. She stood there in his shirt from the night before. Her arms crossed as tears ran down her face.
Billy laughed as he got back in his car, but before he sat down he whistled.
"If you need a rebound, I'm here, gorgeous," he winked at her.
They watched as he raced out of Steve's driveway, leaving them alone.
"Y/N," he started but she already was running inside.
"I CAN EXPLAIN!" he shouted as he raced into his house, he was quick to head up to his room. She was yanking off his shirt and throwing on her clothes.
"I don't care anymore. You're just as much of an asshole as I thought." She hissed, angrily putting on her pants. "I should have known better. 'Oh baby, I just want you all to myself and I know this romantic spot at the lake,' you just didn't want anyone to see us together!" She mocked his voice as she headed out of his bedroom.
"I know! I'm so sorry and I fucked up. But please believe me. You heard me tell him to keep it right? You heard me!"
"Yeah, I heard you! But I never heard you admit any feelings for me. Why? Too scared to admit that to Billy? Knowing your reputation is on the line?" She scoffed, sliding on her shoes.
"I do have feelings for you! Yes, it was a bet initially but I fell for you. I really like you and I didn't want us to break up. I want to be with you," he cried, tears falling down his face as he grabbed the front door knob.
"Yeah, well I don't want to be with you." She snapped as she slammed the door behind her.
~~~
Steve gave her time to cool off but when Monday arrived he had his eyes set on her. He followed her around and begged for her to listen to him. People were staring and whispering about them in the halls but Steve didn't care.
Finally, she stopped, turning around as Steve's body smashed into hers.
"Quit following me around, this time I don't want to be seen with you," she declared, ignoring the kicked-puppy look in his eyes. "Take a look around, any girl would jump at the chance to be with you. And you wouldn't have to be ashamed of them, leave me alone and find someone else."
She went to turn around but Steve grabbed her shoulder.
He looked into her eyes and she tried to keep her hard face on.
"I don't want them. I don't want to look elsewhere. I'm looking at the girl I want. I'm sorry for everything and I'm sorry I thought you were someone to be ashamed of. You're not. You are the best person I have ever met and I'm begging for another chance."
She watched as he dropped to his knees and held her hand. She smiled awkwardly as the school stared and gasped.
"People are staring!" she hissed
"Good, because then you will see that I don't care who sees us. Y/N, will you please give me another chance? We don't have to label it right away, we can start with a date and talk through everything. All I ask is you say yes in the moment and we can think about it later."
She sighed, looking down at their hands. In his eyes, he looked sincere and sorry.
"Fine," she sighed, smiling to herself when Steve's face lit up, "But we will be thinking about it later."
"Deal!" he cheered as he stood up. She was caught off guard when he swooped her into a kiss. She ignored the crowd around them as she kissed him back.

Summary: You are the queen of Hawkins high, being a cheerleader and dating the football captain Jason, however after spending time with the dungeon master and getting to know just how attractive he is, while Jason shows his true colors one night, your love for the blonde slowly starts to fade away and is replaced by an ache needing to be relieved by Eddie “the freak” Munson…
——————————————————————————
Jason was the love of your life or at least that’s what you told yourself. I mean he was your first everything, boyfriend, v-card, kiss, etc… You loved him and he loved you, you couldn’t be happier, or at least you thought. One night, while your mom and dad where gone on a business trip, you and Jason were laying on your queen size bed in your obnoxiously pink room, while Kate Bush played faintly in the back room of your room, when he decided to express his hatred for the brown haired freak.
“I just don’t get what your problem is with Eddie Jason, he seems nice”. You say as you look into his eyes. “Are you serious y/n, he’s a freak that leads a cult into worshiping the devil!” He looks at you like you’ve just grown two heads. “Jason listen to me… when I talked to Eddie the other da-” He interrupts you, “Talked to him, y/n you can’t be serious, I told you to stay away from him, he’s dangerous.” “Eddie may be different but he’s not dangerous” You look at him as he stares at you in disbelief. “Babe as your boyfriend I’m telling you to stay away from him… don’t talk to him, don’t stand up for him, don’t even look at him… I’m serious y/n”. You’ve never been scared of Jason before but the look in his eyes makes you worry, he must noticed this because he continues, “I’m sorry I just wanna keep you safe, I don’t want anything bad happening to you”. You seriously doubt Eddie would do anything to hurt you, but you stay quiet and nod you head, while giving a small smile to your boyfriend, you just want this conversation to be over with.
On Monday morning, while getting dressed for school you think back to how mad your boyfriend got because of Eddie, but you brush it off because like he said, he just wants to protect you, he doesn’t want you getting hurt or anything bad to happen to you.
When you hop into his car he gives you a quick peck on the lips and heads off to school, not even mentioning the conversation you two had earlier that night.
After you arrive to school Jason gives you a hug and heads off to class, in pursuit of finding his basketball friends. You look around for your best friend Robin but can’t seem to find her in the crowd, so you head to the bathrooms to freshen up before going back out. Just as you reach the bathrooms, you collide with a tall figure. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry, I didn’t see where I was going”. You apologize without looking up. “It’s alright sweetheart, I should’ve been more careful”. You recognize the voice instantly and look up to see Eddie staring back at you with a small grin. “Oh hey Eddie, how’ve you been” you smile back. “Oh you know same old same old, still rounding up kids for my devil worshiping cult, in fact we just found a great candidate for our sacrifice tomorrow”. “Oh really” you play along chuckling. “Yup she’s a sweetheart” he smiles at you. You open your mouth to respond, but you hear someone calling your name. You turn around to be met with a not so pleased Jason. “Oh umm Jason I was jus-” he cuts you off again, “What the fuck are you doing to my girl” he seethes at Eddie, while pulling you away from him by your arm. “Oh nothing just turning the queen over to the dark side” he just smiles at Jason’s anger. Jason however doesn’t seem to appreciate it, as he grips Eddie’s shirt by the collar, “Stay the fuck away from her you freak” he spits in Eddie’s face. “Don’t go near her ever again” Eddie just grins at this, “Wouldn’t dream of it”. Jason finally lets Eddie go and turns back around to you. You notice the way his eyes are dark, burning with anger. He grips your arm and basically drags you around the corner. When he gets to a secluded area he pushes you up against the wall, “Remember that chat we had yesterday” all you can do is nod, to scared to say anything. “If you remember then why were you talking to him y/n” the way he says your name makes you want to get away from him, after a while you don’t say anything, so he bangs his fist against the wall right next to your head, “SPEAK TO ME WHEN I’M TALKING TO YOU!” He yells. You flinch in shock, Jason has never dared to raise his voice at you before, “WHY THE FUCK WERE YOU AND MUNSON TALKING!” You close your eyes and breathe, was Jason really yelling at you right now, was he really this pissed about a conversation, you and Eddie didn’t even exchange that many words, why was he so freaking pissed, “I’m sorry… it won’t happen again”. You open your eyes and look at him, he seems to have calmed down. “Alright, I-I just want you to be safe baby, that’s all I want” he hugs you against the wall and you’d think that you’d feel safe anywhere else than in his arms.
The next day you forget about the encounter with Jason and go on with your day like normal, going to English class with Robin, doing your cheer routine with Chrissy, during cheer practice, having lunch with your boyfriend, and having physics with Eddie Munson… wait having physics with Munson. As you round the corner for your physics class, you start to grow worry. The teacher recently paired the students up to work on a project and you, of course, got paired to be with Eddie. At first you thought it would be a fun experience, getting to know more about the metal head, but now, after Jason’s warning yesterday, you were terrified. Of course you liked Eddie, I mean you two got on quick a lot, considering how you were you and he was he, but Jason made you distance yourself from a potential friend and you didn’t want to find out what would happen if you were to break the distancing, for your sake and his. When you got to the door, you could see Eddie writing something down in his notes, probably working on his new campaign, you smiled at the thought. You were about to go and sit next to him, when Jason’s voice repeated in your head, so instead you decided to skip, it was the last period of the day anyways.
When you got home, you sat on your bed and wondered what things would be like if Jason wasn’t your boyfriend. You couldn’t imagine life without him, but with the way he was starting to act, it made you scared and a girl should never be scared of the one that’s supposed to love you the most, but maybe that’s it, maybe Jason loves you too much.
Friday comes around and everything has gone back to normal, except for the fact that you haven’t been attending your last period class. You know you owe Eddie and explanation, I mean he is trying to graduate this year and so are you, so you make your way to the place you know he will be.
When you get to the door, where hellfire is held, you pause, should you really be doing this, if Jason found out, you don’t even wanna think about it, but then you think about Eddie and about how nice he’s been too you, how funny and sarcastic he can be in class, how he always asks for your help on assignments, how he isn’t afraid to speak his mind, and how he doesn’t let anyone speak bad about you, not even his club members. Eddie has been nothing but kind to you and here you are blowing him off because of your possessive boyfriend, so to hell with what he cares, you are going to apologize to Eddie. Just as your about to open the door Jason walks down the hall with Patrick and chance. You mentally scream, if he saw you standing outside the hellfire door, you wouldn’t hear the end of it, so you open the door and run inside without looking back.
You hold your breathe as you hear them pass by and exhale with relief. “Umm hello” your head shoots up at the voice, Dustin you believe his name is speaks, “We’re kind of in the middle of a game here” he looks at you. You look around the room, realizing everyone stoped what there doing to look at you. You blush, you didn’t even consider to think that Eddie would be having a campaign going, “Oh right, I’m sorry” you go to leave, wanting to be gone, this was so embarrassing. As you go to turn the knob, Eddie speaks up, “Wait” you turn around and look into his eyes, he stares back and clears his throat, “Uh did you need something… what did you want” you look at him silently praying that he’ll take the hint that you want to talk in private. He looks back at you and then at his friends, “Give me five minutes” in says to them, you hear them all groan in protest, but he’s already up and out of his throne, as he calls it.
When you go out the room you start to realize how nervous you are. Eddie looks at you patiently waiting for you to speak. “I just wanted to come and apologize to you for not showing up to class… I know how much you want to, how hard your trying to graduate this year and me not being there isn’t helping, since we have to work on it together and all”you look up at him and he smiles at you. “It’s not your fault, it’s alright y/n, however I do miss you, physics is so boring without you there to laugh at my god awful jokes” you chuckle with him, god did you miss those jokes. “I’ll be there tomorrow and we can get right back to it” you make up your mind, Jason doesn’t have the right to tell you who you can’t and can speak to, he would just have to deal with it you decide. “Great I can’t wait sweetheart” he grins at you and you smile back blushing. Finally things are actually back to normal. Eddie bids you farewell and goes back to hellfire, you turn around and go to leave school. Just as you turn around and walk a little to the front doors, you see your boyfriend standing there with his arms crossed. You gulp, did he just get here or was he standing there for a long time, how much of that did he see? Telling by the look on his face, he saw all of it…
