Reader's meme: B3, B6, B7, B10, C1, C4, C8 and feel free to ignore me if i'm too curious (:
I am so very happy to get a response for the meme! Sometimes I see these things and am just like... “I wanna not even bother waiting for people to ask and just answer them ALL.”
The B’s
B3: What’s the best device to read on (phone, laptop, tablet…)? Why?Well, I don’t have a tablet, so not one of those. I do most of my reading on my laptop because that’s where I do most of my internetting, but if a story I really love has updated and I don’t want to wait, then I’ll read on my phone as time allows. Some sites are better than others for phone reading.
B6: What is your favourite story trope? Why?Amnesia. Specifically, when the characters are in a Good place in their lives/relationships and you take just one of them back to a previous, less good state and ruin things for everyone. It’s all the fun of angst while being ultimately pretty silly, so it doesn’t hurt too bad.
B7: Which character is your favourite to read about? Why?This is hard to answer because I am so picky. I want to be like Character X but only if the story fits in these specific constraints. My favorite characters can also be some of my least favorite characters, depending on the story.
B10: What is the best plot twist you’ve ever seen?I legitimately have no idea.
The C’s
C1: What trope are you tired of reading? Why?In Once Upon a Time fandom, I am very over non-magic AU’s. I just feel like taking magic away from the characters and the world they live in fundamentally changes them at the core of who they are/how they understand the way the world works, and it gets rid of the Fairy Tale aspect that’s the selling point of the show in the first place.
C4: What thing that fandom loves do you actually kind of hate? Why?...Darcy? No, I love Darcy. He’s my favorite character in Pride and Prejudice. But I hate fandom!Darcy. Fandom!Darcy is always at Netherfield to teach Bingley how to manage an estate, as if the people he’s renting Netherfield from are LETTING him manage it. Why would they let their income be up to the whims of this random guy who decided to rent a house after looking at it for half an hour? Fandom!Darcy goes to Rosings Park to check up on Lady Catherine’s management because it is Taken As A Given that she wouldn’t know as much as a man half her age and with a fifth of her experience. Fandom!Darcy has always been Very Clear about the fact that he’s not going to marry Anne, as if going around and explicitly saying “I will not marry you” a propos of nothing is ever acceptable behavior. Fandom!Darcy hates Caroline Bingley and has made it clear to Charles that he’s very uncomfortable around her, as if he doesn’t go for walks alone with her, invite her to his house, write lines from her in letters to his sister and wax poetic to her about the girl he has a crush on. Fandom!Darcy is always on the pulse of what is going on in Georgiana’s life, as opposed to canon Darcy who literally ignores her in half the scenes they are both in. Fandom!Darcy BROODS and hasn’t smiled since his mother died X number of years ago despite Darcy barely being in the book, yet one of the characters described as smiling THE MOST FREQUENTLY.
Fitzwilliam Darcy is a HUMAN BEING that probably hangs out with his friends and family for reasons other than to manage their property. He probably knows that the absence of a proposal is all the signal of I am not going to marry you that is necessary. He’s friends with women. He’s not hyper focused on his baby sister at all times. He’s, you know, like a person.
C8: What is one plot twist you wish people would stop using? The Bennet daughters secretly have dowries but their parents don’t want anyone to know because they want a man to marry them ONLY for love and not for money.
Can’t feed, educate and clothe your children with love. Knowing how much money a wife bringing to the family is pretty reasonable in a culture where a man’s income isn’t going to increase over time and a she doesn’t have a job.
