Ginkgo Guild? Why does that name feel familiar…?
Greetings! You are knowledgeable in history, presumably Sinnohan from your name?
I am looking for information on my (non-humanoid) form, which I have been informed is called Dialga. It looks like this.
Tumblr media
Anything you have to share would be helpful. Thank you in advance!
@icy-chill
Ah, yes! Sinnohan through and through.
Dialga-? Ah- My friend, that is something truly incredible!
You see, the form you speak of is one you share with the Deity of time. It is known and worshipped here. Once, it was known as Almighty Sinnoh, although falsely. It was created by the Original Oneto bring the flow of time into existence, along with its counterpart, Palkia, who brought forth space. Together, they formed the universe.
If you've any more questions, please ask!

"Precious Angel" by Bob Dylan
Precious angel, under the sunHow was I to know you'd be the oneTo show me I was blinded, to show me I was goneHow weak was the foundation I was standing upon ?Now there's spiritual warfare and flesh and blood breaking downYa either got faith or ya got unbelief and there ain't neutral groundThe enemy is subtle, how be it we are so deceivedWhen the truth's in our hearts and we still don't believe ?Shine you light, shine your light on meShine you light, shine your light on meShine you light, shine your light on meYa know I just couldn't make it by myselfI'm a little too blind to see.My so called friends have fallen under a spellThey look me squarely in the eye and they say, "Well all is well'"Can they imagine the darkness that will fall from on highWhen men will beg God to kill them and they won't be able to die.Sister, lemme tell you about a vision that I sawYou were drawing water for your husband, you were suffering under the lawBob Dylan - Precious Angel You were telling him about Buddha, you were telling him about Mohammed in the same breathYou never mentioned one time the Man who came and died a criminal's death.Shine you light, shine your light on meShine you light, shine your light on meShine you light, shine your light on meYa know I just couldn't make it by myselfI'm a little too blind to see.Precious angel, you believe me when I sayWhat God has given to us no man can take awayWe are covered in blood girl, you know our forefathers were slavesLet us hope they've found mercy in their bone-filled graves. You're the queen of my flesh, girl, you're my woman, you're my delightYou're the lamb of my soul, girl, and you touch up the nightBut there's violence in the eyes, girl, so let us not be enticedOn the way out of Egypt, through Etopoia, to the judgement hall of Christ.Shine you light, shine your light on meShine you light, shine your light on meShine you light, shine your light on meYa know I just couldn't make it by myselfI'm a little too blind to see.

How onetouch Mobile App elevates our security solutions
Onetouch is one of the leading security solutions companies in India owing to a wide range of reliable and robust offerings. In today’s integrated world, only devices are not enough. We are one of the few companies providing a versatile mobile app along with our security solutions that elevate our product functionalities and enable ease of use for our customers. Here are a few of the key features that make the onetouch mobile app one of our most sought-after features.
Real-time Calling/Anywhere Intercom
Tumblr media
onetouch Video Door Phone and Smart Door Bells have the feature of real-time video calling between visitors and homeowners. This call can not only be received on the indoor control screen, but also through the mobile app. It is as easy as receiving a video call on your phone. This ensures that you never miss any visitor and can receive a video call from your security system from anywhere. This feature works whether you are at home or away. It is a massive benefit of the onetouch mobile app as you can monitor visitors even remotely.
Remote Monitoring
Tumblr media
These days, your smartphone is with you wherever you go. So having a mobile app that monitors the security systems for your home is valuable. The onetouch mobile app enables you to not only receive notifications from your onetouch security systems remotely but also allows you to monitor and regulate the system. Moreover, you can receive snapshots of visitors at your doorstep on your mobile app. This enables real-time verification of visitors and helps you in ascertaining the identity of any visitor. With the onetouch mobile app, you are in complete control of the security of your home no matter where you are in the world. This takes mobility to a whole new level and provides users with flexibility and an enhanced sense of security.
Intercom Functionality, PA Paging and Access Control
The onetouch Mobile app acts as a bridge for communication with its intercom feature. The intercom works in multiple ways – app to app, app to indoor screen and between apartments. This means that added family members can connect through the app using the intercom feature. Users can also leverage the onetouch mobile app and smart doorbell as a PA Paging system. The mobile app can be used to monitor the doorbell and one can call to talk with the visitor if required. With onetouch mobile app one can give access of door to their Visitors/guests. Also in Multiapartment Scenario, Apartment owners can generate a QR Code using onetouch mobile app and share it with their guests for ease of access from Video entry station at building entrance. This enhances its use especially when users are away from their homes.
Activity Logs
Tumblr media
Onetouch security solutions, including the visitor management systems, maintain visitor logs. These are especially relevant for multi-apartment complexes where the footfall is high. With the onetouch mobile app, users can access the visitor activity for their homes. This enables better visitor control and eliminates the need for manual record keeping.
Kill Mode
We use multiple apps on our smartphones every day. For making the charge on the phone battery last longer, users shut down applications. Many times, applications are also prevented to run in the background. But if security applications are restricted in this manner, it can be a risk to home security. With onetouch mobile app, users do not need to worry about this aspect. The onetouch Mobile app comes with Kill Mode. This enables the application to call and send important notifications to the phone, even if the app is shut down or not running in the background. This is a unique feature that makes onetouch stand apart from the competition. It allows users to be in touch with their onetouch home security systems, without compromising on the functionality of their phones.
For More Information Visit Our Website-https://www.discreet.co.in/

Things dont just fall from the sky
I remember when I was kid in Kindergarten , playing in the playground minding my own business.. A hat fell out of the sky, just like that! And I put it on my head, wore it headed back to class, My teacher we used to call her 'Grandma'/Bibi(she was soo cranky) was mighty mad that i was wearing a farmers hat in class, she asked me again and again where I got the hat, And again and again I said it fell from the sky, the children laughed and my teacher got even madder at me. I didnt know what to do, it did fall from the sky but she made me say I was lying and explained to the rest of the children why things dont just fall from the sky, she made me write on the board 100 times (mind you I was only 3 feet tall so I had to stand on a chair) I will not lie again. The next day, I was minding my own business as usual when a shirt fell from the sky, so there I was little me in the middle of playtime with a large oversized shirt over me. My teacher who spotted me yet again, tried to squeeze the so called 'truth' of where I got this shirt from, to which I explained how it fell from the sky, this time she decided I'm either stealing or needing therapy.Until a guy who lived opposite to the school came around and said how the winds have been strong at his farmhouse, how the wind blew his hats and clothes off,My teacher called me later told me how I got the hat and the shirt and explained why things just dont fall from the sky...Well here are 10 things that did fall from the sky Grandma...it does happen...things do fall from the sky sometimes A rain of spiders in Argentina April 6, 2007, a rain of spiders falls from the sky in Salta Province, Argentina. Christian Oneto Gaona and his friends decided to take a trip to Salta Province during their Easter vacation. They started to hike into the San Bernardo Mountain and two hours later, they found the ground around them was blanketed with spiders of many colors, each about four inches across. They found more and more spiders along their way up the mountain. They looked up, and saw numerous spiders falling from the sky. Christian became probably the first person in the world who caught this weird rain on camera. Read More A cow that fell from the sky in Japan 1997 a Japanese fishing trawler was rescued in the Sea of Japan. They claimed that a cow fell out of the sky, struck the boat, causing it to sink. The crew members were immediately put in jail. About 2 weeks later the Russian Air Force informed the Japanese authorities that the crew of one of its cargo planes had stolen a cow thinking they would have beef for some time. Of course the cow was not fond of its close surroundings and began to thrash about. To save the aircraft and themselves, at about 30,000 feet, the crew shoved the animal out of the cargo hold as they were flying over the sea of Japan. Read More   More A rain of blood in Colombia 2008 a red rain that was certified by a local bacteriologist to be blood fell on a small community of La Sierra, Chocó. A sample was collected and taken to the nearest town, Bagadó, where it was analyzed. The priest of the hamlet says it's a sign from God that people will have to change their sinful ways. Read More A star jelly rain in Scotland 2009, a jelly rain fell in Scotland. Scientists commissioned by National Geographic carried out tests on, but they  failed to find any DNA in it. Theories for the origins of “star jelly” abound, one of the most plausible theories is that star jelly is regurgitated frog or toad ovaries, vomited by buzzards or herons as it is indigestible, others refer to the remnants of a meteor shower or even a fungus. Read More A rain of worms falls from the sky in the USA Jennings Police Department employee, Eleanor Beal was just crossing the street to go to work when something dropped from the sky. She says it was worms, large tangled clumps of them. Where they came from is a mystery, but some believe that a water spout spotted less than five miles away at that same time near Lacassine Bayou could have something to do with it. Read More A multi-coloured snow that fell over Siberia 20007,In the Omsk region, about 1,400 miles east of Moscow, smelly orange, yellow and green snow fell  Read More A rain of fish in a desert town in Australia Lajamanu sits on the edge of the Tanami Desert, hundreds of kilometers from Lake Argyle and Lake Elliott and even further from the coast. But it's not the first time the remote community has been bombarded by fins from above. In 2004, locals reported fish falling from the sky, and in this opportunity the freak phenomena happened not once, but twice in February 2010. “Hundreds and hundreds of small white fish had fallen alive from the sky everywhere”, a witness said. Read More A rain of money in Germany 2007 a German motorist saw money flying through the air in her rear view mirror. She pulled over and tried to collect all the notes, unsuccessfully. When police went with her to the scene they could not find any more cash. The money's origin is unknown.Money rain, we pray for things like this! The sky was perfectly clear at the time, and she said it fell like large snowflakes, the pieces as a general thing not being much larger. Two gentlemen, who tasted the meat, express the opinion that it was a either mutton or venison. Mhhh..Was thinking Ingekuwa Bongo hapo, next day Sky meat iko butcher zote mtaani.. India, China opportunities identical: Airbnb co-founder
Tumblr media
Nathan Blecharczyk co-founded Airbnb with Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia in 2008 and the company has become one of the most valuable startups in the world at $31 billion, making all three worth $3.8 billion each. The company, which has been at the forefront of the sharing economy, along with ride-hailing giant Uber, has seen growth in India move from outbound to domestic travel. The company has witnessed high growth in listings in India and has introduced Airbnb Plus — verified homes with great hosts — aimed at high-end customers in India. Blecharczyk, who was the first chief technology officer of Airbnb, took the role of chief strategy officer two years ago. He also looks after the company’s China business. On his third visit to India, the 35-yearold talks to TOI about India expansion, new growth areas and why it is important for the company to go public. Excerpts:
For Airbnb, China business has been growing really fast and you are also chairman of Airbnb China. What are the similarities and differences that you see with India? If you look at the opportunity — the size of the country and size of the millennial population — it is identical. All the fundamentals are similar. In both places, it took time to build the basic awareness and building trust is really important. We have done partnerships with entrepreneurs and women to show how different kinds of people can thrive in India. Our initial focus in both the countries was on outbound travel. But once people understand what is Airbnb, they start participating in the domestic market. Over the last two-and-ahalf years, we have gone from
Indians using Airbnb to travel abroad to use it to travel within the country. The domestic travel business is growing at 78% year-on-year. This is the trend going forward.
How fast did the outbound and inbound businesses in India grow? Both grew at 65%. Since we started about four-and a-half years ago, 1.8 million Indians have used Airbnb.
How different will the business be five years down the line? We will still have a big emphasis on experiential travel and giving people an authentic experience. How that manifests can be different. We are going vertical by vertical to every aspect of travel — by offering homes, then experiences and we have just hired someone to build our flights vertical.
How big is Airbnb for Work becoming in India? It is quite big and grew 4x last year. There are 6,500 companies working directly with us for business travel. Given how early we are in the adoption curve in India, business travel is taking off faster than in the US or any other geography.
Tumblr media
How fast are listings on Airbnb growing in India? We have 45,000 listings today that have more than doubled since our launch. If you look at other countries, we haven’t really found a ceiling yet. It just keeps on growing. Globally, it’s over five million. Even US is growing tremendously. Demand drives supply, and supply drives demand.
Has Airbnb faced any regulatory challenges in India? We are still very early in terms of our conversations with the government. The government is still watching and studying the market. But we are ready to have conversations and our general approach to governments has been as proactive as possible.
Airbnb is expected to go for an IPO. There is enough money available in private markets for you and your employees. So, why IPO is important for you? The company has been profitable for almost two years. There is money on the balance sheet and the company doesn’t need to raise funds. The investors are happy. But we do have a lot of employees and some of them have been there for a while. We need to be mindful of them, particularly early and former employees. They are big shareholders and this money will make a big difference in their lives. Apart from that, we are at a point in time where we have been private longer than companies historically have been. Now, I think we can go public on our own terms. It’s important that you are not pushed into any kind of situation.
Have you noticed any new trends in the way people are travelling or booking homes on Airbnb? As the market matures, you see more weekend getaways, shorter trips. You tend to see longer trips too. People are booking homes through Airbnb for oneto-two months, which we traditionally call a sublet. These could be relocation for work or summer internships.
Most Airbnb employees are also hosts on the platform. How many guests have you hosted? I just got an email from Airbnb saying I hosted 600 guests in three years.

All I did was ask, albeit in too many words, 'well why aren't they cryptids?' After reading it again I could see how it could come off as confrontational, but all I did was ask a question! I believe they're cryptids, and as someone from the culture they come from, you don't. So I asked why! I wanted to be enlightened by someone from the actual culture, and then all this started, and I'm oneto always finish what I start.
It was actually your reply to my inbox ask that prompted me to make this post, sorry for that confusion.
Reverse racism, which I'm calling Idealization because of the words YOU said, is not racism towards white people. It is the grouping of a like people cast in a positive light. The opposite of racism, which is the grouping of a like people in a negitive light. Both of which have VERY OPPOSITE PROBLEMS.
I actually had no idea that Bigfoot originated from native legends. Surprisingly not everyone knows all the stuff about every cryptid creature. Which then promts me to ask this,
If I remeber right, you did consider Bigfoot a cryptid, but the ones of topic aren't. See? Now we're actually getting somewhere. Is it because Bigfoot is considered physical? Unlike the sk*nwalker, who exist more in 'soul' form? If so, I thought the w*ndigo was a physical being. Is that not true?
And you have to realize that people knowing about your culture isn't a bad thing. It helps people empathize more with something that they aren't a part of. The birth of ignorance and hate is a lack of understanding, and all I want is to understand! I don't want to be part of your culture, I have my own. I don't want to teach others about your culture, it's not my place to do so. I just want to understand.
Can we please just, continue this as a neutral conversation if you reply again? Maybe now we can actually take in what the other is saying
Okay, ya know what? I refuse to give any of you the last intelligent word. So I'm done being nice, and I'll even return to the root of the argument because ypu idiots can't seem to understand that reverse racism, which I will hensforth refer to as Idealization (because I do realize that reverse racism is a bad word for it), is a different extreme and therfore has COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FUCKING NEGATIVES! Where racism gets good people killed, Idealization lets bad people get away with more. It's not a hard fucking concept.
Alright, onto the cryptid argument. You've all said that you believe native spirits aren't cryptids because they're real to your culture, right? So let's pick that appart.
I'll start with a smaller cryptid, bigfoot. Bigfoot is commonly believed to have originated from rural america. Where the rednecks and farmers are. They have culture, granted a relatively new and comparatively smaller culture, but still have their own culture nonetheless. Part of their cultural lore is the exsitance of bigfoot. To all the people that grow up in that culture, bigfoot is very real, and they constantly try to find it. To most other cultures, bigfoot isn't real, but to theirs, it is very real. Does that mean it's not a crytpid anymore because it's real to one culture?
How about Nessie? From scottish culture she lives in a lake and sinks ships and has been seen by sailors and beach goers throughout their cultures history. They believe Nessie to be real. It's part of their culture to believe Nessie is real, bit others think she's a myth. So to their culture she's real, does that mean she's no longer a cryptid?
Ow aboit something from MY NATIVE MAURI CULTURE? Say the cursed fertility mask. It was made with the intention of bringing a tribes population up, but something cursed ot and now any woman that gets to close becomes infertile, and pregnant women will have miscarriages, or their baby will be dead upon birth. Those stories are real to me. Those stories are real to my culture, are they they real to yours? No? That mask means nothing to you? Well I wouldn't let my partner anywhere near the cursed thing. Because that's my culture.
Have you seen how ridiculous you're all being yet? Just because its real to you, doesn't mean it's going to be real to someone from outside the culture. And so they're going to take what to them is a myth, and categorize it like everything else.
Your cryptids may be real to you, but to others they're a fun story. My belief in the cursed mask is real, but to others it's just a strange story. Get your heads out of your asses. Nothing revolves around you. None of you are fucking special, so get the hell over yourselves and get off that high fucking horse you've been riding. You're all just racist fucks.

Could you write something where Estrella gives Cassandra a hickie and the others tease her about it?
Honestly, this is what I imagine a regular day in life at the Library would consist of. Except, of course, when Cassandra is spending nearly all her time with Estrella ;) Thanks so much for this excuse to write some good, ol’ fashioned silliness!
When Cassandra walked through the Backdoorinto the Annex, she had not been expecting to see the others milling about andhovering around the Clippings Book. Jacob was the closest to her, phone pressedagainst his ear, and when he looked up and saw her, Cassandra squeaked and herhand flew to her neck to cover it up.
So much for covertly sneaking home to graba scarf.
Jacob grinned at her, returning his phoneto his pocket. “Where were you? I was just about to call; we got a new mission.”
“Oh, really?” Cassandra said, and if hervoice was a few octaves too high…well, maybe they’d just think she got ahold ofcaffeine again.
“Uh, yeah,” Jacob said, frowning at her.He reached out, grabbed her arm, and tugged her along, dislodging her hand fromher neck. Cassandra yelped, but it was already too late. Jacob’s eyes hadzeroed in on the hickey on her neck like lasers. It only took him a second to realizewhat it was, and he snorted loudly, drawing the others’ attention.
“Knock it off,” Cassandra hissed, slappinghim on his crossed arms. He only laughed some more, ducking away from her.
Ezekiel came up next, confused frown onhis face. “Hey, don’t leave a guy out of a joke, mate. What’re we-?”
His eyes landed on Cassandra’s neck, andhe barked out a laugh. Cassandra slapped at him too, snapping, “Knock it off! You’re acting like children!”
“So…” Jacob said. He had put the tablebetween himself and Cassandra. Flynn and Eve were still standing by theClippings Book looking equally intrigued and bemused. Jenkins stood at his desklooking annoyed. Jacob winked at her. “How’s Estrella doing?”
Cassandra felt her face burn up, but shegrabbed a nearby book and tossed it at him. “Stop!”
Jacob, nearly needing to jump to catch thebook, just continued on laughing, shit-eating grin on his face. Ezekiel, whohad joined Jacob on the other side of the table, asked, “Does Estrella have oneto match?”
“Guys,” Flynn said but even he had alittle grin on his face, “knock it off.”
“Yeah,” Eve added, nodding. “WhatCassandra and her girlfriend do in their free time is none of your business.”
“Thank you, Eve, Flynn,” Cassandra said, nodding curtly. She smoothed out her skirt and walked over to them, standing onher tiptoes to glance at what they were up against.
“I dunno what she’s so embarrassed about,”she heard Jacob murmur. “I mean, she’s got more game than either of uscombined, man. That’s something to celebrate.”
“Uh, excuse you,” Ezekiel squawked.
Eve sighed and rolled her eyes, muttering,“Here we go.”
“I have the best game!” Ezekiel shouted.Jacob snorted, and Ezekiel looked more affronted. “Just ‘cause Cassie can gether mack-on with some chick doesn’t mean I don’t have game.”
“Excuse you?” Cassandra said. Ezekiellooked at her, eyes going wide. She pointed a threatening finger at him. “You’regonna regret that you ever called Estrella ‘some chick.’”
“So much for the mission,” Flynn said, closing the Clippings Book.
Cassandra suddenly darted at Ezekiel whoscreeched and ran away, out of the Annex. Jacob, grinning, chased after them, shouting, “I’ve got money on Cass!”
“What do you say we go out for a picnic,”Eve said, dragging Flynn towards the Backdoor. She glanced at Jenkins, who hadstill not moved from behind his desk. “You’ll watch the kids, right?”
Jenkins scowled at her, but Eve ignoredhim, picked a random location, and yanked Flynn into wherever fate had decidedthey would go.
Jenkins groaned when he heard Ezekielscreaming, something breaking, and Jacob cackling. Maybe next time Cassandrawould let him tag along to the resort and he could finally retire.
He grabbed a sword from the wall and setout to put the three Librarians in order.

My Context I've never used DynamoDB in production, so I am not qualified to assess technical merit - there are other experts to do that. I write in order to share my experience of the book as a DynamoDB beginner. I'm not new to NoSQL - I've actually spent more time with Fauna, Firebase and MongoDB than I have Postgres, MySQL and SQLite - but NoSQL kind of follows a perversion of the Anna Karenina principle "All SQL DBs are alike; each NoSQL DB is NoSQL in its own way." My interest is personal though - my next job will use DynamoDB extensively, and in any case I expect that knowing foundational AWS services will be relevant for the rest of my life, and therefore a very good use of time. Structure This 450 page book has 22 chapters. There's no explicit grouping of them but here are my unofficial groupings: Chapters 1-6 (~120 pages): Explaining DynamoDB Concepts, APIs, and Expressions Related writing (not part of the book but representative) - DynamoDB Transactions: Use Cases and Examples, DynamoDBGuide.com Chapters 7-9 (~50 pages): Advice for DynamoDB Data Modeling/Implementation You can sample Ch. 8 - The What, Why, and When of Single-Table Design with DynamoDB Chapters 10-16 (~90 pages): Strategies for one-to-many, many-to-many, filtering, sorting, migrations, and others You can sample Ch. 11 - Strategies for oneto-many relationships Chapters 17-22 (~150 pages): 5 increasingly complex Data Modeling Examples - modeling a Session Store, Ecommerce App, a CMS backed Deals app, GitHub's backend and Migrations for the GitHub backend I write these details down to emphasize the ridiculous amount of thought put into this book. A lesser book would stop at Chapter 9 - mostly explaining factual statements in a more accessible way than the official docs, and then ending with some advice. But, in fact, the majority of the book comes in Chapters 10-22 - chock full of hard won advice, and worked examples for you to apply what you just learned, designed to prepare you for every real world scenario. This truly goes above and beyond, and turns the book from a read-once-and-discard deal into a reusable reference tome you will consult for the entirety of your DynamoDB usage. 5 Things I Learned There's way too much to write down, but I figured I should force myself to make some notes to process in public for myself and others. 1. Why Generic PK and SK names DynamoDB is marketed as a "key value store". The keys are split into Partition Keys (PK) and Sort Keys (SK) which helps DynamoDB scale behind the scenes, but also opens up some query patterns that let you do a lot more than simple key value lookup. Because of the benefits of Single Table Design, we overload the meaning of PKs and SKs to accommodate multiple domain objects, and use {TYPE}#{ID} conventions within the key rather than designate a fixed type to each key. An SK can consist of both ORG#ORGNAME and USER#USERNAME in the same item collection. This lets you query both in a single query. If this makes you queasy, I have't fully made peace with it too. It's basically the developer contorting themselves to fit the abstraction leak of DynamoDB. I rationalize it by basically regarding DynamoDB as a low level tool - it is closer to a linear memory address register than a DB. Think about it - DynamoDB promises single digit millisecond latency, but in exchange you have to be hyperaware which address you are slotting your data in and manage it carefully. That's just like dealing with low level memory! With a low level tool, you understand that you need to manage more of its details, but in exchange it gives you more performance than anything else possible. This is backed up by Alex quoting Forrest Brazeal: A well-optimized single-table DynamoDB layout looks more like machine code than a simple spreadsheet. You could build a DB layer atop DynamoDB that abstracts away these PK/SK shenanigans, but you do run the risk of making very inefficient queries because you have no control/knowledge over the data modeling. Maybe you care, maybe you don't (maybe you're no worse off from the inefficient queries made in SQL). There's a whole section called "Don't use an ORM" in the book, though Jeremy Daly's DynamoDB Toolbox and AWS' Document Client are OK. But it is clear that for stable data access patterns (eg you intend to run Amazon.com until the heat death of the universe), taking over low level PK/SK modeling details for DynamoDB will yield best possible results. 2. Why Global Secondary Indexes There are two types of Secondary Indexes in DynamoDB - Local and Global (aka LSI and GSI). LSIs can use the same PKs as the main table, but a different SK, whereas GSIs can use any attributes for both PK and SK. LSI GSI Pros Option for strongly-consistent reads PK flexibility, Creation time flexibility. Cons Must use same PK as table. Must be created when table is created. Eventual consistency. Needs additional throughput provisioning Given the importance of flexibility over strong consistency, it's clear why GSIs are so much more popular than LSIs. I don't have any numbers but vaguely also recall seeing on the Twitterverse that GSI replication delays are very rarely a problem. I wonder if AWS publishes p99 GSI replication numbers. 3. KSUIDs for Unique, Sortable IDs K-Sortable Unique Identifiers (KSUIDs) are a modification of the UUID standard by the fine folks at Segment that encodes a timestamp while also retaining chronological ordering when sorting as a string. Here's a UUIDv4: 96fb6bdc-7507-4879-997f-8978e0ba0e68 Here's a KSUID: 1YnlHOfSSk3DhX4BR6lMAceAo1V The benefit of using a KSUID compared to a UUID is that KSUIDs are lexicographically sortable. KSUIDs embed a timestamp, which you can decode and sort if you have a ksuid implementation handy - but also if you simply sort by the generated ID's they will sort themselves out chronologically (without any knowledge of how to decode KSUIDs!). This feature makes KSUIDs ideal as unique identifiers for DynamoDB keys, where you can use a condition expression like #id BETWEEN :start and :end where :start and :end represent starting and ending ID's of a range you want to query. I don't know how widely KSUIDs are known given this idea was only released in 2017, but I think this is useful even beyond DynamoDB. 4. Sparse Indexes for Filtering A sparse (secondary) index intentionally excludes certain items from your table to help satisfy a query (aka not merely as a result of PK/SK overloading). When you write an item, DynamoDB only copies it to the secondary index if the item has elements of the specified key schema for that index. This is useful in two ways: Using sparse indexes to provide a global filter on an item type Example: You have a list of Organizations (PK), each Organization has Members (SK), a few Members are Admins (role represented attributes). You want to query for Admins, without pulling ALL members of every organization. Setting up a sparse index that only includes Admins then lets you quickly and efficiently query them. Using sparse indexes to project a single type of entity Example: You have customers, orders, and inventory linearly laid out in PK/SKs in a single table. You want to query for all customers only. Setting up a sparse index that only includes customers helps you do that. I think you can regard this as a "filter" or "groupby" or "projection", depending on your functional/excel/linear/relational algebra preferences :) 5. Normalization is OK You'd think that Normalization is anathema in NoSQL, but it is actually recommended as one of the many-to-many strategies in the book! The given example is Twitter - a user follows other users, and other users follow yet more users. A social network. Every tweet or change in profile would cause a huge fan-out, aka "write thrashing". The recommended solution is storing User as PK, and then the SK has both User (again) and FOLLOWING#. When one user wants to view users they follow, we: use the Query API to fetch the User's info and initial few users they follow use the BatchGetItem API to fetch detailed User info for each user followed. This is making multiple requests, but there is no way around it. This pattern is also applicable in ecommerce shopping carts. Conclusion I mean. The premium package costs $249 ($199 for launch) for now. If you were to hire Alex to even do a consultation phone call or mentorship workshop for you you'd need at least 10x that. If you use or will use DynamoDB in any serious way, you would save a ton of time and pain and money by going through this book.

Covid-19: How ministers and bureaucrats are keeping the wheels of governance turning in these testing times

Covid-19: How ministers and bureaucrats are keeping the wheels of governance turning in these testing times
Shastri Bhawan in Delhi is a hive of activity on any working day. Ministers, bureaucrats, officials and citizens visit the building complex that houses at least 11 ministries.
Around two weeks ago, a delegation of 20 people from Punjab wanted to meet Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan at his office in Shastri Bhawan to discuss some payment issues. But, as a precautionary move, his ministry allowed only four from the delegation into the complex. Paswan wanted to minimise, if possible even avoid, face-to-face interactions. The coronavirus pandemic had reached India and the government wanted to minimise the spread. A week later, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a nationwide lockdown for 21 days.
Paswan’s ministry – which has been instrumental in capping the prices of masks, hand sanitisers and its raw material and also placing them under essential commodities – had started discouraging unnecessary visits to the ministry since 25 days. The measures were taken to check the huge surge in prices of these items in the country. “Any work that could be done over video conference or over the phone should be done that way,” the minister tells ET Magazine.
The eight-time MP, who is often called “the greatest weather vane” of Indian politics, has also distributed 500 masks to his office staff. Even before the government stopped trains and flights, he had decided to cut down on “unnecessary travel in these times”.
Several government departments had taken similar decisions by the first week of March. After all, government staff has to continue working to ensure relief measures are implemented smoothly. At the same time, the government also wanted to contain the spread of the virus. “We have told everyone that safety comes first,” Union Labour and Employment Minister Santosh Gangwar told ET Magazine on Monday. “We are running on skeletal staff. Many of our staff members are working from home.”
Three weeks ago, when this reporter had visited the ministry, efforts to install hand sanitisers were in full swing. Within days, all the ministries had installed dispensers with alcohol-based sanitisers at the entrance. A note near the dispenser said: “Please use 3-4 drops to sanitise hands”.
In the Parliament complex, thermal scanners that check body temperature have been installed at every metal detector point. Hand sanitisers were placed at several places in the building. The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha were adjourned on Monday in the wake of the pandemic. “But when the Houses were functioning, we told our staff to always carry some object, like a file, in their hands so that they can overcome the natural tendency to shake hands,” says a senior official of Rajya Sabha, adding that it was just a precautionary measure.
Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting even demonstrated social distancing. Photos of the meeting showed ministers sitting at least a meter apart. Sources said everyone is greeting others with a namskar, instead of a handshake.
Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal, who attended the meeting, says safety is of utmost importance now. “Apart from promoting the use of hand sanitisers, we asked our staff to take utmost care once they reach home also.”
Union Shipping Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who is part of a group of ministers reviewing the actions to fight Covid-19, was going to his office at Transport Bhawan till Thursday. “We are working on minimising physical interaction. My family members keep calling from Gujarat asking me not to go to office. But some meetings were unavoidable,” he says. His office has declared flexible timings and only asks those living closer to the office to come to Transport Bhawan, that too only when it is unavoidable. The rest work from home.
All the ministers this reporter spoke to said they were meeting only one or two persons at a time and that too when it cannot be avoided.
Minorities Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi says till a few weeks ago, they used to have hundreds of people visiting his office and residence to get paperwork done for travel or medical treatment. “But we started discouraging people from coming in the last few weeks. Instead, we started collecting their requests first at the gate and then over the phone,” Naqvi says. The idea was to ensure people did not congregate at a point.
After the lockdown, most ministries have implemented work from home. The health ministry, for one, is working almost 24/7. Yet only about 10% staff is still working from their office in Nirman Bhawan. Health Minister Harsha Vardhan is conducting most meetings through video conferences and calling officials over phone to get updates, to avoid face-to-face meetings. “We have streamlined our work in such a way that face-to-face interaction is minimal,” Vardhan says.
The finance ministry — another ministry crucial to keep the country and economy functioning ¡V has also implemented similar measures. Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs Pramod Chandra Mody says: “We have restricted our movement to office. It is entirely needbased. I go only when some work can¡¦t be done otherwise. I have also restricted oneto-one meetings to a bare minimum. Thanks to technology, most of the meetings and follow-ups are happening over video-conferencing and telephonically. I get the doorknobs cleaned from time to time to avoid the spread via surfaces.”
In Uttar Pradesh, the health minister has quarantined himself in his home for 14 days after he attended a party in Lucknow where singer Kanika Kapoor, who tested positive for Covid-19, was also present. Health Minister Jai Pratap Singh said on Wednesday he was awaiting the results of the second test after the first one tested negative. “I am in self-isolation at home and will resume fulltime work after my second test results. If any file is very important, it reaches my home so that I can clear it. But I take all possible precautions,” he added. Till it is all clear, it is work from home for ministers and bureaucrats.

Gamer Saves Friend's Life From 5,000 Miles Away
A 21-year-old gamer in America saved a friend's life from more than 5,000 miles away earlier this month, according to a report from the BBC. 17-year-old North West England resident Aidan Jackson was playing video games online with his friend, 21-year-old Texas resident Dia Lathora, on January 2 when Jackson experienced a seizure. "I just put my headset back on and I heard what I could only describe as a seizure, so obviously I started to get worried and immediately started asking what was going on and if he was okay," Lathora said to Liverpool Echo. "When he didn’t respond I instantly started to look up the emergency number for the EU. When that didn’t work I just had to hope the non-emergency would work, it had an option for talking to a real person, and I can’t tell you how quickly I clicked that button." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/31/the-best-games-of-the-decade-2010-2019"] BBC reports that Lathora had Jackson's address even though the two never met in person. Police arrived to Jackson's surprised parents at 9:40 p.m., about 40 minutes after Jackson's seizure reportedly started. Jackson's parents told police they hadn't called anyone, but when police explained the call had come from America, Jackson's mother went upstairs to check on her son, finding him "extremely disorientated." Aidan Jackson had previously experienced a seizure in May 2019, according to the BBC. He is currently awaiting a new appointment at a local hospital to address the issue. Jackson's parents expressed gratitude for Lathora's quick action. "We are extremely thankful for what Dia did and shocked that we could be downstairs and not know anything was happening," Ms Jackson told the BBC. "Dia had our address but didn't have any contact numbers, so it was amazing she managed to get help from so far away. I've spoken to her and expressed our thanks - she's just glad she could help. Aidan is a lot better and hopefully everything is OK when he has his appointment at the hospital but he's doing well."
