Director æ°žćČĄ æșäœł Chika Nagaoka talks about the Detective Conan movie 27 : The Million-dollar Pentagram

When I was approached to direct this movie, it had already been decided that Kaito Kid and Heiji Hattori would be the main characters. During a meeting that included Gosho Aoyama-sensei, we discussed possible settings. Since Kidâs last feature was set in Singapore, we wanted a location with equally breathtaking nightscapes. Kobe came up as a possibility, but since the Kansai region has already been featured quite extensively, we decided, âLetâs go with Hakodate!â Thatâs how the setting was finalized.
The Detective Conan movies find a balance between three key elements : action, mystery-solving, and romantic comedy. The movie puts special emphasis on the romantic comedy aspect. Whatâs fascinating about that is how small details can convey emotion. For example, a subtle nuance, a single line on an eyebrow or the curve of an eye, can drastically change an expression. A glance or even a slight movement of the fingers can express something profound. Thatâs the charm of crafting romantic comedy moments. On the other hand, action scenes are the complete opposite. The focus is entirely on cool, dynamic movement. Timing and pacing are everything, and when those align perfectly, it create an exciting scene.
The cases in Conan have gotten increasingly complex over the years. Honestly, I canât fully grasp the script on my first read through (laughs). But while we might find ourselves going, âHuh?â, Conanâs brilliant mind races ahead. To ensure the audience doesnât feel left behind, we added "visual storytelling". For instance, when Kid mentions âsix swords,â rather than relying solely on dialogue, we included a scene where Kid uses his signature magic to produce six swords. Such clear visual cues are crucial in a Conan movies, especially since the movies are enjoyed by younger audiences too.
Kaito Kid shines in this movie, embodying elegance and charm with his striking lines and graceful movements, all while carrying a hint of mischief (laughs). Aoyama-sensei trusted me with Kidâs portrayal, giving me freedom to explore. For Heiji, Aoyama-sensei supervised his Kansai dialect and occasionally adjusted his expressions. My initial depictions of Heiji sometimes leaned too mature, but with his guidance, Heiji came to embody the quintessential teenage high schooler. It was a valuable learning experience.
Thereâs also a small gesture involving Aoko that Aoyama-sensei appreciated. Later, he told me, âIâll incorporate that depiction into the resumed serialization of Magic Kaito starting in April,â which made me incredibly happy.
Detective Conan has a long history, and many veterans whoâve been involved from the beginning are still contributing to the series. At the same time, younger generations are joining the team. This blend of fresh talent and seasoned experts creates the depth unique to Conan. When I joined about ten years ago, I learned so much from my seniors, who helped shape my approach. Now, as a senior myself, I try to give back by sharing insights, such as, âIf it were me, Iâd do it this way,â or, âIf you approach it like this, you could achieve that.â That cycle of growth and mentorship has allowed the Conan animation to continue evolving.
This sense of âpassing the batonâ is also evident in the voice acting sessions. Minami Takayama-sanâs leadership as Conanâs voice actor is truly remarkable. Her sharp questions and constant flow of ideas help refine the work. The voice acting team for Conan is genuinely outstanding.
I heard that the guest voice actor Yo Oizumi had experience in the voice acting industry, but his performance exceeded my expectations. While listening to him in the booth, I found myself nodding repeatedly, thinking, âHe really gets it!â He also gave invaluable advice on Hokkaido dialect nuances, for which Iâm deeply grateful.
Fans might be wondering, âWill Heiji and Kazuha finallyâŠ?â That sense of anticipation or frustration whether itâs resolved or not is something youâll have to see for yourself. I hope viewers will empathize with Ran-chanâs perspective this time, as she supports Heiji and Kazuhaâs relationship. Her reactions are sure to make audiences think, âI get that!â And, at the end of the movie, thereâs one more intriguing detail to watch for, donât miss it!

The Golden Age of Japanese Talent in Western Motorsports
So, the heavy rumor at this point in F1 is that Sergio Perez's position at Red Bull has become untenable. An expensive release clause and a lack of a clear alternative has protected Perez for awhile now, but a truly dismal end to the 2024 season has meant Red Bull is willing to pay the price to get rid of him.
Not unlike McLaren with Daniel Ricciardo in 2022.
So, who is getting the nod to Red Bull?
Liam Lawson, it seems. This has pissed off a lot of fans, who feel that Yuki Tsunoda has performed well enough and has spent enough time at Alpha Tauri/VCARB to earn a chance at Red Bull.
Red Bull feels otherwise, and it seems to be because Yuki Tsunoda is at RB as a favor to engine supplier Honda, and Red Bull does not see Tsunoda continuing with them once they switch to Ford.
This got me thinking about Japanese drivers in motorsports, western motorsports in particular. I know that sounds just a bit orientalist and I apologize for that, but a variety of cultural, linguistic, and geographic factors have created a lot of barriers for Japanese drivers to come over here.
Japanese talent instead seems to focus on domestic competitions: Super Formula, Super GT, the Suzuka 8 Hour, etc, etc.
Meanwhile, Japanese talent in the west is most often associated with a Japanese manufacturer. This is what I want to talk about today.
An early prominent example of this is Satoru Nakajima, who Honda tried to put in a Williams in 1986. Frank Williams refused, reasoning that Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell was a much stronger lineup. Thus, Honda went to their other customer team in Lotus, and Nakajima was put into the car in 1987, partnering Ayrton Senna.
Ayrton won two races and finished third in the standings.
Satoru...did not. His best result was a fourth place.
Nevertheless, Satoru continued with Lotus in 1988, now alongside Nelson Piquet. Now, nobody was touching McLaren that year and Lotus slipped to fourth in the constructors' championship, but Nakajima was actually closer to Piquet than he was to Senna. Granted, he only scored one point, but in terms of pace and performance, he was a lot closer.
Satoru Nakajima - nor Aguri Suzuki, who also appeared in F1 around this time - didn't accomplish much, but they did pave the way for the 1990s, which would turn out to be a golden age for Japanese drivers in western motorsports.
On the Formula One side of things, we had Nakajima, Suzuki, Naoki Hattori, Ukyo Katayama, Toshio Suzuki (no relation), Hideki Noda, Taki Inoue, Shinji Nakano, and Toranosuke Takagi all made appearances.
A number of these guys, most prominently Shinji Nakano and Tora Takagi, would also make appearances in CART, where Honda and Toyota were engine suppliers.
The racing series where Japanese talent shined brightest, however, was Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing, now known as MotoGP. Here, Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki made sure that Japanese manufacturers were well represented, and the 1997 season is probably the best example of that.
Australian Mick Doohan was dominant, yes, but behind him...the Japanese were all over the series. Teammate Tadayuki Okada won the Indonesian Grand Prix and finished second in the championship, whilst Takuma Aoki on a Repsol Honda entered NSR500V - a cheaper V2 variant of the V4 NSR500, meant for customer teams - finished fifth with three podiums.
Takuma's brother, Nobuatsu Aoki was third on another V4 Honda, taking four podiums and managing to just barely finish ahead of Repsol's Alex Crivillé, who was hampered by a midseason injury.
It wasn't limited to just Honda either, as Yamaha had the famous Norifumi Abe, who won three races himself - the 1996 Japanese GP at Suzuki, the 1999 Rio de Janeiro GP at JacarepaguĂĄ, and then the 2000 Japanese GP, also at Suzuka - but was more known for wild and aggressive performances.
Norifumi was so famous at this point that a young Valentino Rossi used Rossifumi as his first nickname.
Before there was the Doctor, there was Rossifumi.
So yeah, in 1997, there were four Japanese riders in the top ten of the championship, and while none of them could quite match Mick Doohan, neither could anyone else back then.
So, what happened to all this?
That's the difficult question really. My first thought was that maybe it was the switch from 500cc bikes to the 990cc bikes of the MotoGP era. Perhaps the increased cost and professionalization of the grid reduced the number of Japanese riders.
The problem is that it doesn't quite hold true. Daijiro Kato in 2002 was shaping up to be the best Japanese prospect perhaps ever, before his career was cut short by a tragic death at the 2003 Japanese Grand Prix.
Did that death kill the Japanese stomach for motorcycle racing? I mean, maybe, but it sure didn't in the moment.
Abe was still around, as were Tohru Ukawa and Noriyuki Haga, while Shinya Nakano spent the mid-2000s dragging his Kawasaki into contention whenever he could, and Makoto Tamada won at Rio and Motegi in 2004 on the Camel Honda, giving us the first multi-win season for a Japanese rider.
It more just seemed to fade out over the course of the 2000s.
By the 2010s, Japanese participation in MotoGP was reduced to one satellite Honda rider and then maybe a wildcard ride or two from the Yamaha or Suzuki test teams at Motegi.
By the 2020s, that rider was Taka Nakagami, but for 2025, that seems to be changing.
The Idemitsu LCR Honda - the Honda reserved for Asian talent - will go to Thai rider Somkiat Chantra. Surprisingly though, this does not mean the end to a Japanese rider on the grid, as Ai Ogura has been signed by Trackhouse to ride an Aprilia.
A Japanese rider on an American team running an Italian bike.
This is a big deal, because it marks the first time in twenty years that a Japanese rider was picked entirely on merit, having denied a chance to go to LCR Honda to stay in Moto2 and prove himself.
And prove himself he did, because Ai Ogura won three races and the Moto2 championship in 2024. These wins were at Catalunya, Assen, and Misano too, so these are classic European venues.
He's not just a Suzuka/Motegi specialist, he might just be the real deal.
P.S:
So yeah, I've been reading up on 90s and 2000s two-stroke era Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing and I noticed how prominent and successful Japanese riders were, so I wanted to write about it. I wasn't sure where exactly I'd go with the blogpost from there, but I actually like how this one went, let me know what you think!
P.P.S:
Oh, and Offtopic Offseason...I liked writing that blogpost a lot and I think I'll do some more of those. I was thinking about alternating weekly between an Offtopic Offseason post and a regular motorsports post, but I think I'm just gonna leave it open to whichever I decide to do on a given Monday. This week I had something motorsport-y to talk about, next week I might, or I might not, we'll see.
I'm going to label and number all of the Offtopic Offseason posts, so you'll know exactly what it is once you see it post. I hope that's alright with all you guys.

a messed up kaishin fic

Shinichi Kudo and Kaito Kuroba had been dating for nearly a year. They were an odd pair: Shinichi, the brilliant detective, and Kaito, the mischievous magician. Their relationship was a balance of intellect and whimsy, creating a dynamic that was both challenging and exhilarating.
One evening, Kaito invited Shinichi (and Shinichi invited Hattori, his âbest friendâ) to one of his magic shows. It was a special performance, one he had designed specifically for Shinichi. The audience was enraptured as Kaito executed one breathtaking trick after another. Shinichi watched from the front row, his eyes filled with admiration and love. Hattori was next to him, teasing him.
Then, Kaito announced that the final act would start. The finale was an act of unmatched boldness. It was an impossible act if I do say so myself.Â
Kaito, bound in chains, was lowered into a tank of water filled with a hundred piranhas. When he got inside, his assistant, Jii, closed the tank and locked it. Then he covered it with cloth for the âmagicâ to happen. The one-minute timer started and the audience waited in anticipation.
Next thing you know, the one-minute timer is done. However, Kaito still hasnât given Jii the âsignalâ. Jii became worried and decided to check on the magician while saying something to the audience. He went to peek behind the cloth just to see the water was turning red and Kaitoâs body ripped to shreds, unrecognizable. He looked like he was skinned alive, a bit of his skull was showing and some of his organs could be seen too. The piranhas were having the time of their life as they ate Kaito bit by bit.
Youâre wondering why Kaito hasn't screamed and asked for help? The glass is soundproofed, and any inside noise won't be heard. The âsignalâ his assistant was waiting for was the knock on the tank door. But Kaito couldnât do that to ask for help because he didn't have the strength to lift his arm and knock while being eaten by one of the deadliest fish.
His assistant was in shock. He almost threw up in front of a thousand people. He stepped backward. His left hand still holding up the cloth just enough so he could see the horrendous sight in front of him, while his other hand was over his mouth to prevent him from throwing up.
The audience watched him in confusion and started murmuring. On the other hand, Shinichi grew restless.
âDid something happen? Why does he look like that? Why does he look like heâs about to throwâââ He couldnât finish what he was thinking when the assistant tripped and accidentally showed the gruesome scene on the stage. Then, the next thing he knew, everyone was screaming, throwing up, and leaving the place.
âWhat the fuck.â Hattori gagged, âIâve seen so many dead bodies but Iâve never seen anything as gory as this.â He said as he looked away from the bloody tank, looked at his friend, and hugged him. âLook away, Kudo.â
Shinichi felt his world collapse around him. The sight of Kaito's mangled body haunted his every thought. Despite Hattori's attempt to shield him, he couldn't tear his eyes away from the horror. His mind raced, battling disbelief and a profound sense of loss. The vibrant, mischievous Kaito, who had brought so much joy and chaos into his life, was gone in the most gruesome manner imaginable.
He shook himself out of his stupor, his detective instincts taking over. There had to be an explanation. Kaito was a master of deception; maybe this was one of his elaborate tricks. But the blood, the smell, and the reaction of the audience told him otherwise. This was real, and Kaito was dead.
Shinichi pushed past Hattori and ran to the stage. He had to see for himself, had to find some clue that would make sense of this nightmare. Jii was still sitting there, pale and shaking. Shinichi grabbed his shoulders, forcing him to focus.
"What happened? How could this have happened?" Shinichi demanded, his voice trembling with a mixture of anger and desperation.
Jii shook his head, tears streaming down his face. "I don't know! It was supposed to be safe! We've done this trick countless times! I don't understand howâ"
âStop. Shinichi.â Hattoriâs voice was firm but gentle as he gripped Shinichiâs shoulders and pulled him away from Jii. The desperation and pain in Shinichiâs eyes were almost too much to bear.
Shinichi tried to push past him, but Hattori held him firmly. âLet me go, Hattori! I need to know what happened!â he shouted, his voice breaking.
âShinichi, look at me,â Hattori insisted, his tone unwavering. He cupped Shinichiâs face in his hands, forcing him to meet his gaze. âThereâs nothing you can do right now. You need to calm down.â
Shinichiâs breath hitched, his eyes wide and filled with anguish. Hattoriâs expression softened, and without another word, he leaned in and pressed his lips against Shinichiâs.
The kiss was tender yet intense, a mix of comfort and desperation. For a moment, Shinichi resisted, his mind still reeling from the horror before him. But then, he melted into the kiss, allowing himself to be enveloped by the warmth and familiarity of Hattoriâs embrace. The world around them seemed to blur, and all that existed was the solace of Hattoriâs touch.
Hattori and Shinichi were locked in a heated embrace, their bodies pressing against each other so tightly that it seemed as though they might merge into one being. Hattori's tongue darted out, tracing the outline of Shinichi's lips before forcing its way past, thrusting deep into his mouth. He moaned, his hands gripping tightly onto Shinichi's shoulders as he felt his best friend's hips begin to move in a familiar rhythm against his own.
Shinichiâs loverâs dead body was completely forgotten as he arched his back, his hands fisting in Hattori's hair as he ground their pelvises together. His mouth opened, revealing his teeth as he bit down on Hattori's bottom lip. He didn't care; he was lost in the sensation of their bodies moving together. The smell of blood, the screams of people, and the thought of his dead lover are all fading away into insignificance.
Hattori cried out, his head thrown back, his eyes closed tightly. His hands roamed over Shinichi's back, digging into the firm muscle as he felt the other man's erection pressing against his own. He could feel the need building inside him, the tension coiling tighter and tighter with each passing moment. Shinichi let out a loud moan, his hands scrabbling at Hattori's shoulders as he struggled to keep his balance.Â
For a moment, they stood there, panting heavily, chests heaving as they tried to catch their breath. Then, with a soft laugh, Hattori released Shinichi, and they both collapsed onto the creaky wooden floor, still tangled together in a heap of limbs and sweat-dampened clothing.
As they lay on the creaky wooden floor, the reality of the situation started to seep back in. The raw emotion and adrenaline of their heated moment gave way to the cold, hard truth. Kaito was dead, and his brutal murder demanded justice.
Shinichi sat up, his breath still coming in ragged gasps, and looked at Hattori with a mix of gratitude and determination. âWe need to figure out what happened,â he said, his voice steadier now.
Hattori nodded, his eyes softening as he wiped a stray tear from Shinichiâs cheek. âWe will. But right now, we need to let the police handle it. Weâre too close to this, Kudo.â
Shinichi swallowed hard, knowing Hattori was right. âI know. But I canât just sit back and do nothing.â
âYou wonât be doing nothing. Weâll make sure they have all the information they need,â Hattori reassured him. âAnd weâll keep a close eye on the investigation.â
With a resolute nod, Shinichi stood up, pulling Hattori with him.
âWeâll get through this, Kudo. Together.â
Shinichi nodded, squeezing Hattoriâs hand. âTogether,â he echoed, finding strength in their bond.
And as the sun rose on a new day, they knew the journey to justice had only just begun.

False Brother
Heiji Hattori x Male Reader

»What do you mean, he isn't Shinichi?«
The question you spoke with a whispering volume in your voice, filled with doubt and hesitation, hung above through the upcoming silence like a loose threatâready to fall and causing havoc disaster.
Without really noticing it, the three Soda cans of cold Colaâwhich you had eagerly volunteered to get for your brother, Heiji and yourself as a form of thank you treatment for the hard work they had done these past few days of solving yet another crime and bringing justice once againâslipped from your hands, which had now a visible shake in themâand onto the ground below with a thud, rolling away.
Heiji captured his lower lip between his teeth's, gnawing at skin in slight anxiousness. Observing you, Heiji raced his mind of ways to distract youâbringing you away from the scene, from something of a sort of false truth you wished, longed, to be true againâand calm you down before your anger could rise.
You rarely got angry as you're a more peaceful person with sincere attitude of positive and genuine love energy. Only a handful, be it people or things, could make your fuse go into an explosion.
Though when you got angry, when the fuse start to spark and make the anger bubbling inside youâtill it bursts into flames of furyâoh lord, than you weren't a pleasant person to be around.
»Are you telling me, that heâhe isn'tâisn't.....ShinâShini......« your voice faltered, died out in uncertainty of unbelievable.
Heiji knewâfrom the way you first narrowed your eyes at Okuda, the person who fooled you into thinking that he was your dear brotherâwho disappeared once without a word and now reappears againâhow your hands are clenched into fists, so hard that your knuckles turned white and how your narrowed stare turned into a angry sneerâthat your about to strike Okuda down with every possibility of your strength in Qing Mado. After all, you weren't in the top 5 of ranks for nothing.
Heiji was able to catch you when you leapt forward with a raised fist. Okuda did a fearful step back.
»This fucker! I will smash him into the ground! He had now fucking right to imposante as Shinichi! NO RIGHT! Iâfucking let me go Heiji or I swear to god I will fucking smash you into the ground too!«
And in the next seconds, you grabbed Heiji's arms and judo flipped him over your shoulder and onto the ground. Leaving him breathless for a moment.
While Heiji regained his breath, he glanced towards Ran and Shinichiâthe actual one, who tried his best to take cover behind Ranâand Heiji, for once, felt absolutely angry at his best friendâwho couldn't dare to give you one fucking simple call, because if he had it wouldn't be like this today.
You had charged at the false Shinichi, punching him across the face and pummel him into the ground. Sitting on top of him, you grabbed his shirt collar and shook him anger.
They all watched in shock how you, the oh so sweet and kind [Name] they all knew, shouted threatening profanity at Okudaâand how you gave him a punch after another, letting your fury completely free.
The audacityâyou sneered in visibly barging angerâto imposante as your brother, is something unforgivable to do and wouldn't be forgiven, not when you waited all those damned monthsâalmost a year had passedâwithout any news, signs and calls from Shinichi.
»HOW DARE YOU TO IMPOSE AS MY BROTHER AND FRAMING HIM FOR A CRIME, JUST BECAUSE YOU FUCKER COULDN'T ACCEPT THE TRUTH!«
Because how low must be someone's morals, their values of integrity and beliefs, dropping to do such horrendous acts of so called "self-justification"
How desperate someone could become, to imposeâundergo surgery evenâas another person and commit murder in their name, to make them into a killer and frame them for such inhumane actions.
And that's all because, a truth of justice and evidence couldn't be accepted.
Heiji pulled you off from Okuda, taking every hit from your trashing around in his armsâas you tried to free yourself from his hold, wanting to beat the asshole all bloody moreâand brought you to one at the benches, near the vending machines.
~~~
Heiji didn't say anything, when you cried in his arms, knowing well from first hand experience that sometimes silence comforts more than the mere words of actual comforting meaning.
It wasn't the first time you've cried over Shinichi's absence. There had been many nights where you bawled your eyes out, thinking of gruesome possibilities of what could happen to your brother to make him as of what he is nowâgone and nothing but a mere fading memory.
But this was differentâas you really had thought that Shinichi had finally returned and even when it seemed that your brother had lost his memoriesâyou could live with this as long as he was backâyour crumbling hope was rising like a flame, believing naive and dumbly that everything was turning good again.
Though once again it felt too good to be true, because in the end, it was nothing but a fraudâripping the fragile hope in your brokenâbut ever so mendingâheart apart and leaving behind a mess of piercing pain.
Maybe you should just accept the possibility of reality, that Shinichi perhaps was deadâall along from the day he disappeared to the here and now of present.
Perhaps you also shouldn't have fought for your life back thenâwhen Daiki had kidnapped you and all you wanted was to die as well, having willingly accepted your fate as you hadn't any goal or ounce of hope left in youâbut when Conan told you such blatant lie, that Shinichi had called and would be back home soon, you thoughtâliving once more to see Shinichi's smile was enough to keep going against your wishes of death.
»I reallyâI thought, thatâI thought, that it wasâwas Shinichi.....« you choked out, hiding your face more in Heiji's neck.
»I know, I know, sunshine. C'mon deep breaths, in and out, just like we practiced. Yeah, just like that, ya doing good« whispered Heiji, rubbing your back and praising you when you did the breathing patterns.
If Heiji could, he would've told you in a heartbeat that Shinichi is here and aliveâfreeing you from the painful pressure of heartache you living through ever since with the loss of your brotherâbut he couldn't, have promisedâvowedâto never tell the secret of who Conan actually is.
The amount of times Heiji had to bite his tongue to not say anything to youâbecause if you would knew the actual truth, you would cause havoc and unleash a fury at themâand he never felt any remorse guilt about it nor anger about it before, to tell you minimal liesâbut now Heiji does and for once he wanted to punch his best friend for being so absolutely stupid.
»Come, Officer Kogawa said she's gonna drive us back to the City and then we could take a nap in our hotelroom and afterwards we can go and have a nice dinner, watcha think, sounds splendid doesn't it?« said Heiji, prepping your face with kisses, before standing up.
You wiped the remaining tears from your eyes, rubbing your face andâbesides the upcoming migraine you felt pounding in your headâmanaged a small smile at Heiji.
»Yeah, that sounds real good« you agreed, leaning against Heiji as he placed his Cap onto your head and slung his arm around youâpulling you close.
For a moment you felt bold; cradling Heiji's face in your hands, pulling him down and gave him the biggest kiss on the cheek.
»Not that I don't appreciate it, but what for sunshine?« asked Heiji, grinning at youâhave been taken by surprise with your action.
»No reasons, except for you being the best in my humble life and do you wanna know how much I love you Heiji?«
»How much?«
»Endless, like the universe«
The last weekend of SRO Motorsports America racing in 2024 receives a huge boost in star power as world-renowned actor Keanu Reeves will compete in this weekendâs Toyota Gazoo Racing GR Cup North America finale â his first motor race in over 14 years.
Reeves will drive the #92 Eagles Canyon Racing by Fast Track Toyota GR86 in a pair of sprint races on Saturday and Sunday, 5/6 October. The car will feature a red and black livery promoting his graphic novel, BRZRKR.
The Canadian actor is an avid enthusiast of motorsport. Reeves was the presenter of the four-part documentary Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story and has been a guest of honour in the paddocks of F1, MotoGP, and IndyCar throughout the years.
Reeves drove in the 2009 and 2010 editions of the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race at Long Beach, winning the Celebrity class in 2009 and receiving a promotion to the Pro category the following year. That was the last time Reeves has run in an organised motor race.
Since then, Reeves has gone on to star in the John Wick series of action films, reprised his role as Neo in The Matrix Resurrections, and published the first chapter of BRZRKR in 2021 alongside co-writer Matt Kindt and illustrator Ron Garney.
Reeves is one of two celebrity drivers competing at Indianapolis this weekend, part of a 34-car field.
Eagles Canyon and Fast Trackâs other celebrity driver is Cody Jones from the action sports and entertainment troupe Dude Perfect, which has over 60 million subscribers on YouTube.
Nicknamed âTall Manâ, the 6â6âł Jonesâ sanctioned racing debut in the #29 GR86 was the prize for winning a go-kart racing challenge at this yearâs Formula One Australian Grand Prix against three of his fellow troupe members.
Reeves and Jones will be pitted against a strong field of drivers young and old, including the newly-crowned GR Cup North America Champion Gresham Wagner.
Wagner, the driver of the #5 Copeland Motorsports GR86, clinched the series championship last round at Barber Motorsports Park. At the Brickyard, Wagner will look to add to his eight wins on the season â before heading to Road Atlanta to try and win the Mazda MX-5 Cup championship.
Second place in the championship is still up for grabs between Wagnerâs team-mate, Westin Workman (another driver running dual GR Cup/MX-5 Cup campaigns) and Spike Kohlbecker of TechSport Racing. Workman enters the final weekend of the season six points ahead of Kohlbecker.
Jaxon Bell, the son of 2015 IMSA GTD Champion and 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours winner Townsend Bell, is fourth in the championship.
Another guest driver of note is Miki Koyama from Japan, driving the #75 Hattori Motorsports GR86 in partnership with Japanâs all-female KYOJO Cup Series.
Koyama, the inaugural KYOJO Cup champion in 2017 and 2018, became the first woman to win the FIA Formula Regional Japanese Championship title in 2022 â and last week, driving a Lexus RC F GT3, she became the first woman to take overall victory in a Super Taikyu Series race since 1993.
Koyama is one of four women in the field, joining Mia Lovell, Jade Avedisian, and Maddie Aust. Lovell is the seriesâ top female driver (10th in overall points and the top-ranked woman in nine out of 12 races) â and Avedisian, a Toyota-backed prospect of the open-wheel oval circuit, finished second in last weekendâs BC39 sprint car race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway dirt track.
Back when I came up with this fic idea prompt (which I'm fine with people taking and running with it, as long as they credit me and mention me so I can find it) this was what I was thinking of when I suggested that in a world where Shinichi never shrank, he'd still be at loggerheads with Hattori.
Hattori's first instinct when coming across a rival detective is to make things into a competition - and I think there's a few things at play here, from his other background in kendo (the urge to prove yourself against a strong opponent) and his difficulties at home with his parents, especially his father (the urge to prove yourself as good enough, to impress that person).
Ultimately, though, detective work shouldn't really be a race to the finish line. There are good detectives and better detectives, sure, but the most important thing in a case isn't "I'm better at this than you are," it's finding the truth.
In canon, Hattori has an arc (especially in his first few cases) of having to learn to put his competitive ego aside just as Shinichi's been learning how to put his own ego aside (by needing to use others as his mouthpieces).
In an AU like I suggested... it's possible that they'd still learn these lessons - but it's just as likely that they make each other worse, instead of better. Hattori's attitude and competitive streak could brush the wrong way against Shinichi's pride - among other things. They might end up arguing, instead of finding that common ground.
Because also, Shinichi being Conan, someone whose secret needs to be kept, means that he has to trust Hattori once the other detective figures it out... and it also means that Hattori feels needed.
The sense of ego has to be put aside. Shinichi learns to rely on someone without lying to them, and without taking them for granted. Hattori has someone who needs him who isn't Kazuha, and who doesn't have any of the kind of baggage his relationship with his parents has.
Honestly? They improve each other. Little by little they'll open up to each other, and not only be able to solve cases together, but also just... have fun, laugh, and play together, too.
As a (ex) lawyer:
While in court, he wears a gray tweed two-piece suit with a red and white regimental striped necktie, a pair of brown dress shoes, and his attorney pin on his lapel. Yagami's standard outfit is a black asymmetrical zip up leather moto jacket with snap-down lapels and epaulettes over a fitted white tee-shirt, a pair of blue medium wash washed out skinny jeans that are distressed around the knees, and a pair of white low-top sneakers. <> After the ensuring fight, Takada is arrested, Nanami clutches onto Yagami, who comforts her. She tells him that she'll pay him back for everything he's done for her, leading to her asking Yagami out on a "date.â
Part 2:
<> After a couple attempts of asking Nanami on a date (and after being blown off many times over her work) Yagami goes to Yukiko as a last resort to win the formerâs heart; which would had to involve a snippet of pretence to get them closer
<> After Namani found out about Yagamiâs âdeceitfulâ motives â like he had a choice because she refused to do anything else â she had gotten very angry (and hurt) with him for doing what he did.
Trick or Treat: Real Halloween Murders
Halloween has a bad rap. But, thatâs not to say that there havenât been any baddies doing bad stuff on the most badass of nights⊠or at least close to it. So, If you arenât scared of ghosts and ghoulies coming through the veil on the darkest of nights, hereâs a few stories that will help you fear the most terrifying of monsters⊠that jackass down the street.
Wrong Race, Wrong Number
Way back in the extremest of decades, the 90s, a Japanese exchange student named Yoshihiro Hattori was on his way to a Halloween party. Unfamiliar with the neighborhood, Hattori couldnât find the right address for the party.
When he finally believed he had arrived, he knocked on the door. Receiving no response, he walked back toward his car. In an unexpected turn of events, the door of the house suddenly swung open, and Hattori, thinking he had found the right place, stated, âWe are here for the party.â But there was no party to be had at that address, he was fatally shot by a man standing in the doorway.
Peairs faced charges of manslaughter, yet he invoked the âcastle doctrine,â a concept whereby Americans assert the right to use deadly force to protect their homes. As a result, a jury found him not guilty.
Hattoriâs father expressed his lingering grief in 2012, saying, âSometimes I feel like heâs still in America. Someday heâll come back home, I say to myself.â
That Girl Screwed Around With the Wrong Girl
The subsequent investigation led to the apprehension of a woman named Joan Rabel. It was revealed that Rabel had a sexual relationship with Peterâs wife, Betty.
The theory suggests that Rabel persuaded another woman, Goldyne Pizer, to carry out the murder of Peter. Both Rabel and Pizer were found guilty of second-degree murder and were given five years to life.
Eventually, both women were released. Betty, however, was never brought to trial in connection with her husbandâs tragic demise.
Nun, Nun more black.
On All Halloween, 1981 Sister Tadea Benzâs lifeless body was found unclothed in a Texas convent. The fellow nuns in the convent raised an alarm as they noticed a shattered window in the communal area.
Turns out a witness saw a man, Johnny Frank Garrett, who resided across the street, fleeing from the convent the same evening. This led to Garrettâs arrest. In 1992 he was convicted and sentenced to death for the crime.
His final words before his execution have been recounted as, âIâd like to thank my family for loving me and taking care of me. The rest of the world can kiss my ass.â
Every Last One of âEm
In a horrifying act of violence, Liske savagely beat his older stepbrother, Derek Griffin, and his father, William Liske, to death with a hammer, finishing off his father with a gunshot. He then sexually assaulted and shot his stepmother, Susan Liske.
William Liske pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated murder. However, the story took another dark turn when, in 2015, he was found dead in his jail cell after having taken his own life.
So Enjoy Your Evening
Enjoy the night and send out your kids, and remember one of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite horror flicks, ââŠit ainât the weird ones you gotta watch out for.â
Iceberg felt breathless when Lucci deepened the kiss, and his hands gripped onto the fabric of the man's shirt. Something about kissing him set off feelings that Iceberg had long thought he would never have. Warmth, his heart racing, and the sense that the world was safe. The kiss was over far too soon, in his opinion, but he was content that even that moment was stolen between them. Lucci was a private person, and not one that many could get close to.
When 'Hattori' spoke another hum of content left the mayor. Safe, he felt safe in Lucci's arms, especially with how he worried over him. How many nights had he been dragged away from work for much needed rest? Since the man had come into his life there were less instances of him working himself until he fell ill. He shifted his right hand, playing with the dark curls that were surprisingly softer than one would expect. "Your worry has probably saved me many a sleepless night at this point."
He shifted in Lucci's arms and stole another kiss, wanting to be left breathless once more. The taste of the other man's lips were practically addicting.
Lucci knew this could last, but he would embrace this moment and role as long as he could. Iceburg liked to work hard, sometimes too hard, and he couldn't help but worry. It was fine, though. His team didn't suspect that it was genuine and merely thought he was acting per his cover.
Hattori flapped his wings before hopping over onto Iceburg's shoulder, the only one of his Ciper Pol companions that knew the truth of this relationship he had with Water 7's mayor. Lucci deepened the kiss. He'd never felt another's lips before the first time Iceburg kissed him. Now, he could get enough of it. He did eventually break the kiss, worried he might be asking too much to fast. He needed to reel himself in. "We worry about you, Koo Koo!" "Hattori" told Iceburg.
Crimson Petals
written by @dior-elkie and @kiremrem
Heiji Hattori and Shinichi Kudo were inseparable best friends. They shared everythingâadventures, mysteries, and a passion for solving crimes that brought them closer each day. But little did Heiji know that his heart harboured feelings for Shinichi that he couldn't bear to confront.
Despite their strong bond, Heiji sensed something unspoken between Shinichi and the phantom thief, Kaito Kid. Their interactions were filled with hidden glances and unspoken words that only he seemed to notice. As days passed, his unrequited love for Shinichi deepened, becoming a weight he found difficult to bear.
He tried to distance himself, thinking it would ease the pain in his heart. But the more he pulled himself apart, the stronger his feelings tugged at him. No matter how hard he tried to ignore it, his emotions just wouldn't cooperate. He hoped some distance might lessen the intensity, yet it only seemed to light the fire within him but he couldn't shake off those growing feelings, no matter how much he wished otherwise.
One afternoon, while he was solving a murder case in his home, he took a quick break from thinking. He couldn't quite understand this case.
"If only Kudo was here," Hattori said to, particularly, no one.Â
Just as he took a deep breath, a sudden fit of coughing seized him. He doubled over, a handkerchief pressed against his lips as he coughed up small, crimson petals. Panic surged through him, a mixture of confusion and fear gripping his heart.
Gasping for air, Heiji staggered backward, his mind racing to comprehend what was happening. The pain in his chest intensified with each cough, the sensation was like sharp thorns digging into his lungs.
âWhat.. What is this?..â He managed to say.
He struggled to reach his computer, then opened it to search for information on whatever this was.
He finally found it and when he read through it, he couldnât believe his eyes.
âIs this for real?..âÂ
The search results showed that what was happening to him is called the âHanahaki Diseaseâ. This is a disease in which the victim coughs up flower petals when they suffer from one-sided attraction. It ends when the beloved returns their feelings (romantic love only), or when the victim dies. It can be cured through surgical removal, but when the infection is removed, the victim's romantic feelings and their memories of that specific person / people also disappear.
âThen is there a meaning to those flowers too?â He seriously asked himself. He gathered all the petals and deduced that there were only four types of flowers.
âI have to figure out the names of these flowers first..â He stood up and changed his clothes. He hurriedly went to a flower shop.
âHello, welcome to Hanafuku ! How may I help you?â The florist approached Heiji who was panting.
Hanafuku is an actual flower shop in Osaka
When he stopped panting, he opened his left hand to show the lady the petals.
âI want to know what flowers these are.âÂ
The lady was surprised at this request but immediately regained her composure. âFollow me please.â She led him to the cashier and asked him to put the petals on her hand and so he did.
âPlease wait one moment. If you want, you can sit over there.â The lady politely points at the couch near the shopâs entrance.
âAlright. Thank you, maâam.â He bowed to the florist, then walked over to the couch and sat down.
A few minutes later he was called. He immediately walked up to the cashier.
"Sir, these flowersâAster, Chrysanthemum, Daisy, and Camelliaâare their names," she said, pointing to each one as she mentioned it. âDo you want me to tell you what each of them means?â
âYes, please.â
âAster represents love and daintiness, while Pink Camellia expresses a longing for someone. Daisy symbolizes innocence and loyal love, often paired with a sense of secrecy or itâs like saying *Iâll never tell*. Red Chrysanthemum conveys a direct message of I love you. Despite their unique meanings, all these flowers signify emotions associated with love, affection, and sometimes longing or desire.â
The man listened intently, absorbing the significance behind each flower. As the florist finished her explanation, he nodded, appreciating the depth of meaning woven into the blooms he had coughed up.
âThank you for sharing that.â He said with a gentle smile, âThose meanings are truly beautiful.â He reached into his pocket and handed her some money.
âDonât worry, sir. I wonât be needing that.â The lady said as she refused to receive the money from Heiji.
âWhy? You should take this because you took your time in figuring out what kind of flowers they are and what their meaning is. I should definitely pay you with something.â
âSince you insist so much, good sir. How about this? If you can survive that disease, come back here. This is how you can pay me.â
Heiji was surprised by what she said. âWait, how did you know I have a disease?â
âAnyone who enters while clutching petals is usually suffering from the so-called Hanahaki Disease. Iâve grown quite accustomed to this scenario. So to pay me, you just have to come here after you get cured of this disease.â
"Alright, thank you," he said, bowing as he headed to the door. Before he could leave, he heard the lady say, "Please, come back again."
As weeks passed, Heiji's condition deteriorated, marked by frequent coughing fits, letting out petals with blood. Despite the pain, he hid his suffering, pushing harder in investigations with Shinichi and sometimes Hakuba, masking the turmoil within. His forced smiles and strained laughter concealed the unspoken anguish.
Shinichi remained oblivious to Heiji's declining health, engrossed in cases. Heiji concealed his coughing fits, seeking solitude when the pain became unbearable. Tears mixed with the petals stained his hands, his unconfessed love causing unbearable agony.
In silence, Heiji endured, unwilling to disrupt their friendship. Despite his efforts, traces of blood on his handkerchief and weakening health revealed his struggle. He carried the burden alone, torn between confessing and preserving their bond, the blossoming flowers threatening to overwhelm him.
One day, Kazuha, Hattoriâs childhood best friend, went to his house to visit him. She had been so worried because he hadnât been answering their texts and calls. It seemed to her that he was distancing himself.
She heard a very painful cough and hurried to the source of the sound.
"Heiji, what's wrong?" Kazuha's voice trembled with concern as he rushed over to help him.
"It's nothing, Kazuha, just a cough," Heiji attempted to brush it off, but the petals gave away the severity of his condition.
"Don't lie to me, Heiji. I know something's not right," Kazuha insisted, her eyes filling with worry.
Taking a deep breath, Heiji confessed, "I have the hanahaki disease. I have feelings for someone, but it's unrequited."
Kazuha's heart sank. "Have you told them?"
Heiji shook his head, "I can't. They love someone else."
Tears filled Kazuha's eyes as she embraced Heiji tightly. "You can't face this alone. I'll help you through this, Heiji."
He returned her hug, finally letting go of the pain and agony he had been carrying for the past few weeks.
~~
Timeskip to a case without Shinichi alongside him. The only people he knew there were the police investigator, Kazuha and⊠Hakuba.
After the case was solved, he felt like he was going to throw up. He covered his mouth and went to Kazuha.
âWhatâs wrong, Heiji?â
They communicated with their eyes. Kazuha worriedly looked at him and said: âLet me accompany you.â Heiji nodded as she led him to the nearest bathroom.
Hakuba was looking at them suspiciously so he decided to follow them.
With Kazuha and Heiji, they arrived at the comfort room and Heiji immediately threw up on the sink.
âLet it all out.â Kazuha said as she patted his back.
After he finished throwing up, the door suddenly opened. They were both startled as Hakuba walked in.
âYou have the Hanahaki Disease? Hm, thatâs why you were looking so suspicious the whole day.â
It remained quiet. Hakuba sighed and looked at Heiji seriously.
âWho is it?â
For the first time Heiji spoke, answering him.
âKudo.â
âIf you donât mind me asking.. How did you fall in love with him?â
âHakuba-kun!â Kazuha yelled and turned to her best friend, âYou donât have to tell him.â
Without looking at her, he shooked his head. âItâs alright, Kazuha.â
âI admired him. I saw him as a potential rival. He was my best friend . It was supposed to stay that way, I never thought that these feelings of mine would grow and develop into something else.â He paused for a second before continuing, âRomance. Such a dangerous yet sweet game. One that is hard to decipher. One that is hard to control. Even the best detective might have a hard time solving such a mystery. To solve and give a solution.â
"It sounds like you've gone through quite an emotional journey. Sometimes, feelings evolve unexpectedly, and navigating the complexities of romance can indeed be challenging. It seems like you're grappling with conflicting emotions and uncertainties about the nature of your relationship.â Hakuba said and the other just nodded. âSo why not get surgery?â
âA surgery? Why would he get one? How is it connected to Hanahaki Disease?â Kazuha asked the blonde.
âOh? You donât know, Kazuha-san?â Hakuba turned to face the girl. âGetting surgery is one of the cures of this odd disease.â
âWait, really?!â She turned to face Heiji and grabbed his left arm. âYou should definitely get one, please! I donât want you to die.â
âIâm sorry. But Iâve decided to let the flowers take over me.â
âWhat?! Are you an idiot, Heiji?!â
âIt might be because when the flowers are removed, the victim's romantic feelings and their memories of that person also disappear.â
âWh-what?â
âThatâs exactly the reason. Iâm sorry, Kazuha.â
âThink about it again, Hei." Her eyes were starting to get watery.
âListen to her, Hattori. I know weâre not really that close. But I donât wish for you to die because of these feelings of yours.â Hakuba crossed his arms. Heiji smiled.
âOh, how am I so lucky to have them as my friends? But unfortunately, my decision is fixed.â He thought.
"I have thought about it since that day. Since I fell. Since I found out I have Hanahaki Disease. I wondered if I would ever get over this crush of mine for Kudo. I wondered if I should fall for someone else just so I can get rid of this disease. But I decided to not do it because I love Shinichi with all my heart, figuratively and literally." He chuckled and continued talking. "I wouldn't want to forget my love for him. I would especially not want to completely forget about him. Like, just because I need to get rid of this? It isn't really worth it. My memories of Shinichi and Shinichi, himself, are the most important."
After Heiji finished speaking, Kazuha hugged him and cried while the former patted her head.
Suddenly, Hakuba spoke.
âDo you mind?â
âWhat?â Heiji asked with a confused look on his face. His question was answered when the other opened his arms wide. Heiji laughed at the action and said, âCome here, Hakuba.â
The three hugged while comforting one another (mainly Kazuha).
~~
Hakuba had gathered the courage to confront Shinichi about Hattori's feelings. However, upon arriving, a bittersweet scene unfolded before his eyes.
Through the window, Hakuba witnessed Shinichi standing close to Kuroba, their gazes filled with an unspoken tenderness that spoke volumes. The way Shinichi looked at Kaito was unmistakably that of someone smitten, and deeply in love.
A pang of sadness and realization struck Hakuba. He understood at that moment that Shinichi's heart belonged to Kaito, and any attempt to intervene would only cause more heartache. With a heavy sigh, Hakuba murmured softly to himself, "Oh. I canât save you after allâŠ" The ache in his heart was evident as he whispered, "HattoriâŠ"
Knowing he couldn't interfere or change the course of unrequited love, Hakuba silently turned away, leaving without confronting Shinichi. He carried with him the weight of unspoken truths and unfulfilled hopes, feeling the pain of Hattori's unreciprocated feelings for Shinichi. With a heavy heart, he left.
~~
Kazuha approached Heiji with the intention of discussing his situation once more.
âHeiji? Can I talk to you for a moment?â
âOh? Sure, Kazuha. What is it?â
âHow do I say this⊠I love you so much, platonically. You know that, right? Iâll always remember you. Even though I donât approve of your reasoning, I canât really stop you now, right? Youâve always been a hard-headed guy. Once you decide on something, youâll absolutely push through it even if it may cause you harm.â She paused and reached for his arms, gripping them tightly. Heiji continued to stare at her, his worry evident in his expression. âBut is it selfish of me to force you to get surgery? I donât want you to die. Iâve always seen you as a sibling, and I just⊠I donât think I can live without you.â
âKazuha⊠Iâ â
âI know, just⊠Please let me have this.â She let go of his arms and hugged him. âI donât want to let you go.â
âIâll be here with you when I die,â she sniffed, âI promise.â He said as he hugged her back, patting her head to calm her down.
Kazuha held onto Heiji tightly, feeling the weight of his words sinking in. She knew he was full of determination, a trait she admired but feared in this situation. As they stood there, embracing each other, silence enveloped them. Heiji's promise echoed in her mind. A bittersweet reassurance that offered comfort and heartache at the same time.
After a while, they slowly released their embrace, both trying to compose themselves. Kazuha looked up at Heiji, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "Thank you for understanding," she said softly
Heiji gently wiped away a tear from her cheek.
"I'll cherish every moment, Kazuha. And I'll make sure we have some unforgettable memories together."
With a faint smile, she nodded, trying to muster some courage.
"I'll support your decision, Heiji, even if it's hard for me. Just promise me one thing?"
Heiji nodded, his gaze fixed on hers, as he silently urged her to continue.
"Promise me you'll take care of yourself until... until the end," Kazuha said, her voice quivering.
Heiji nodded solemnly. "I promise, Kazuha."
They shared a sad look, knowing things wouldn't be easy. Kazuha turned away, trying to hide her tears as she walked off. Leaving Hattori behind, feeling heavy-hearted as he watched her leave.
~~
Weeks turned into months, Heijiâs pain increased. Each passing day seemed to be a countdown to an uncertain finale.
One fateful evening while he was engrossed in reading a book on his bed, he suddenly felt an awful pain in his chest. He then sat up and he was startled when he threw up two whole flowers.
âWhat is this..?â He gently held the flowers in his hand and thatâs when he realized, âOh, my end is near, isnât it? I canât believe I have no one with me when I die.â
He sighed in relief, âThank goodness, I guess?â
Just then, there was a knock on his door.
âOh, how can I open the door in this state?â But despite feeling unwell, he managed to open it.
To his surprise, Shinichi and Kuroba were there.
âFuck.â
âW-what are you doing here?â Heiji asked, feeling the flowers rising in his throat again.
âWhat? I canât visit my best friend?â Shinichi lightly slapped the otherâs arm.
âNo, I meanâ â He choked as he didn't know what to say.Â
His best friend whom he has a crush on and the reason he is suffering just visited him with him.
At this point, he had a vague idea why Shinichi visited him along with Kuroba.
âRelax, Hattori. Iâm just here to introduce my boyfriend.â
âKuroba Kaito, nice to meet you. Shinichi has been telling me all about you.â
âOh. So they finally got together huh..â
He knew they weren't meant to be. He knew they had no chance together. He knew but stillâŠÂ
The sight of his best friend with his boyfriend hurts him more than anything. More than a thousand needles. More than this pain he is experiencing.Â
It hurts even more than this damned Hanahaki Disease.
âCan we come in?âÂ
Shinichiâs voice echoed through his ears, snapping him from his train of thoughts.
âOh shit.â
âUh sorry no. Um, I'm actually waiting for Hakuba.â Heiji hated how he lied to his best friend but this is for the best.
âOh?â They both raised their eyebrows. âYou have a date with him?â Shinichi said with an obvious hint of amusement.
Heiji sighed, âItâs not like that. We just have something to talk about.â
âSure, sure.â Shinichi smiled and Kaito chuckled.
Heiji almost coughed out petals if it werenât for his self control.
âWell, enjoy your date then. Weâll be on our way.â Shinichi winked at him as he proceeded to grab Kaitoâs waist as they walked away.
Heiji closed the door and immediately coughed out a bunch of petals, similar to the two flowers he last threw up.
His heart ached.Â
That should've been him. The person next to Shinichi. That should've been him. The one Shinichi holds dear. That should've been him. The one that Shinichi would call âhisâ. That should've been him.
That could've been them.
âFuck. I swear the world hates me so much. This wasnât the last conversation I wished to have.â
But fate doesn't work that way.
They weren't soulmates.
They weren't star crossed lovers.
They weren't âmeant-to-beâ.
It wasn't supposed to be Shinichi and Heiji.
It was Shinichi and Kaito.
Slowly, he went to his room and coughed up even more petals. He could feel the flower roots reaching his lungs, making it harder for him to breathe.
âicantbreatheicantbreatheicantbreatheicantbreatheâ
âIs this really the end?â He sobbed.
His sobs got quieter and quieter as he also slowly stopped breathing.
Fate didn't let them meet to be together.
Fate let them meet to be just friends.
His last words were: âI love you, Shinichi. Please donât forget me.â He said as he coughed out two whole flowers. A forget-me-not and a sweet pea*.
Ultimately, from the very beginning to Heijiâs end, they could only be friends.
Forget-me-not : true love memories, do not forget me Sweet pea : blissful pleasures, goodbye, thank you for a lovely time
