Been thinking about Silver and Atlas' familial relationship again, and I just need to ramble about it.

Atlas very well knows that Silver despises him. He constantly teases Silver for it, and even encourages Silver to feed into his rebellious spirit. Yet still manages to get mad when Silver does, especially concerning Mordecai. Atlas literally tries to sabotage their relationship several times because he hates the idea that Silver might end up making Mordecai hate him. Which Silver does, after Atlas is dead and can do nothing about it, which feels like the perfect karma for all the shit Atlas put Silver through and involving Silver in the business to begin with.

And the saddest part? It's not even that Atlas dislikes Silver, not even in the slightest. He sheltered Silver from the world that once abused him so dreadfully, he never pressured Silver to live anywhere else, and always believed in Silver, even when others did not. It's just that, Atlas feels so justified in his behavior that even Silver hurting because of it, in his mind, isn't enough to change anything. There's just sort of this assumption that Silver will see it his way one day (which Silver never did).

"Platonic relationships aren't that interesting," shut up, I want to write a million fics about these two and rotate them in my brain for hours.

I am curious, how would the AU change if Mordecai had just been a civilian like he always wanted?

Not well, probably lol. I do think Atlas kind of benefits from the others being trapped in that underground world due to their connections, not just to him, but to the rest of his crew as well.

So, Atlas would be pretty disappointed if Silver fell in love with a civilian, putting Silver's foot in the door and, probably, eventually, leading to him quitting. Could he do anything about it though? He could try to drag Mordecai into it, but, in that timeline I doubt he would unless Atlas did something maliciously terrible, like frame Mordecai for something (which is an interesting thought).

However, that isn't how things go. Which isn't to say Mordecai and Silver falling in love and becoming so close doesn't cause Atlas problems. Just different problems.
