Track #3-27: An Endless Sleep
youtube
Artist: Zack Parrish featuring Chromatic Apparatus, Harpsibored, and Psamathes
Original: SkyTown by Kenji Yamamoto, Minako Hamano, and Masaru Tajima
Length: 4:25
The ethereal, dreamlike theme of SkyTown, Elysia previously got a piano cover on the 101% Run album; it returns now under the oversight of Zack Parrish, who arranges it for classical strings; Chromatic Apparatus leads on the harp and cello, Harpsibored assists on second harp, and Psamathes provides vocal talent. The result is somewhat similar to Stephan Wells' folksy fantasy take on 'Phendrana Drifts' just a few songs earlier, but with a strong minor key bent.
This is an excellent cover of 'SkyTown', with excellent playing from all of the performers involved. The main strings are elegant but mysterious, a softer take on the grandeur of SkyTown's bells and choral vocals. The percussion involved creates a full but slightly unsettling atmosphere, and is especially impressive for mimicking the Prime subseries' ambient electronic soundscape on classic percussion. In all, it's a very impressive effort where every performers' contributions combine harmoniously to share center stage, with none overshadowing another.
