the FL MtG cards are here!
this is like my fourth batch, but i haven't posted any of the previous ones, so let me show off some of the cards from all the batches!
briar and his three mr stoneses! these are the face commanders of the deck. there are alternate commanders that you'll see later, but this is the pair that i like using the most often.
more masters! (and bazaar-aligned entities). all the masters in the deck are vampires, and they also all have the seal of the bazaar as a watermark. just a neat bit of visual clarity, i think!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/9a0a0391dafc1074775f9eee14a9a3ea/4d33822c1594b218-84/s540x810/af3c7b22539be779fbab9c66bb6522a7f3c502a7.jpg)
ocs! incuding mine. not all of them will be able to make it into the deck proper (for deck size and colour identity reasons) but i'm still so happy to have them all.
basic lands: seven of each. these gave me so much hassle back when i made them, but i think they turned out well!!! apart from the edge mountains which are like 70% black.
more lands! a triplet of creatureland which i feel work very well. the rest of them are neat too. whenever i say i have an underground sea proxy in the deck, people give me a Look, but how could i not! it's a perfect fit.
dfcs! the frames of these all had to be done by hand, which always took a while. i still think they turned out incredibly well, all things considered.
more creatures!! some legendary, some not. i made the decision pretty early that if i represent a named character with a nonlegendary card, i'd just cut the "the" from the name (see sallow spirifer and voracious diplomat). i think it works!
and noncreatures!! there's a vague treasure theme in the deck (as can be seen in the fall of london, revel in riches and spirifage (as well as a lot of the creatures)) but honestly most of the cards are flavour picks. still, artificial evolution has gotten me out of some jams. fun card!
aaaand tokens! which is everything. i reckon when i play this deck properly, i'll report back any fun scrapes that anyone's characters get into. like getting turned into a bug, or killing the god of death.
again, thank everyone who contributed OCs or art to this project. i'm very happy to have so many flumblr characters appear in the deck. all of the cards have art credits on them, but some probably aren't visible in the photos. so for proper credits (and as a ping list) i've included a list below the cut:
@alexis-royce: The Ex-Disgraced Academic; Mr Pages; Mr Stones (x2); New Blood. @anomalouscorvid: Darcy, the Appalling Artist; Furnace Ancona; Mr Transport; May, the Merry Gentleman; The Seventh Coil. @capn-twitchery: Captain Twitchery Lazaret. @ciriparipa: Mr Sacks. @dualclock: Oswald, the Decadent Parvenu. elena-illustration: M. Woo, the ask box is open again!! Been wanting to ask about any alternatives to Call of Cthulhu (investigative games with the potential to be set in the early 20th century) with more open licensing, such as having Open Game Licenses or being licensed under Creative Commons?
THEME: Hackable CoC Alternatives
Hello friend! I'm excited about the new asks as well!
So as far as I know, a lot of indie designers are very happy to allow hacks and supplements done of their work, but if it isn't clear on their page, asking in a comment certainly doesn't hurt!
That being said, for this ask, I made sure to recommend games that are built on systems that have been stated to be licensed under Creative Commons or something similar.
Eldritch, by Matheus Henrique Morais.
A hack of 24XX for Cosmic Horror games in any setting. Inspired by Cthulhu Dark.
24XX is a game system that has been hacked for a number of different settings and is released under a Creative Commons 4.0 license. The base rules take up about one page, and there’s plenty of examples in other 24XX hacks of how to introduce a rule or two to help the game fit the genre you’re looking for. 24XX is also inspired by the OSR scene, so when it comes to running and designing adventures, you can design adventures for these games similar to how you might design them for other OSR games.
Haunter in the Dark, by Robot Francis.
This town is haunted. Your home is cursed. Monsters are real. Haunter in the Dark is a horror roleplaying game about a group of investigators discovering then confronting the supernatural horrors that haunt their home town. The game is powered by the Forged in the Dark engine, with rules to create your investigators defined by their relationship to the unnatural: the Descendent, the Dreamer, the Exorcist, the Scientist, the Sleuth, and the Sorcerer.
The motivations, powers, and minions of the horror are generated collaboratively by the players during the game, with players encouraged to creep each other out and brandish their character's sharp edges. The MC takes the townspeople, world, and monsters that the players depict, then twists the knife to make it worse than they could have imagined. The game helps you create an escalating mystery, followed by a climactic scene of confrontation.
This is a Forged in the Dark Game, which means it uses the mechanics familiar from the Forged in the Dark SRD. John Harper has stated that the contents of the SRD are available under the Creative Commons Attribution, and if you want to include the Forged in the Dark logo, there’s simply an attribution request to indicate it’s a logo trademarked by One Seven Design. It’s an incredibly free license, and I’m planning on writing a game in this system!
The Between, by the Gauntlet.
The Between is a tabletop roleplaying game about a group of mysterious monster hunters in Victorian-era London. They are residents of a place called Hargrave House, and their job is to investigate and neutralize monstrous threats terrorizing the city—threats that Scotland Yard won’t or can’t handle themselves. As the story progresses, they become aware of the plans of a Moriarty-style criminal mastermind they will eventually have to face in order to save Queen and country.
The Between is directly inspired by the gothic horror TV show Penny Dreadful, but also takes a lot of inspiration from British horror classics, graphic novels like From Hell and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and pulp-era stories. Mechanically, it’s Powered by the Apocalypse but also uses the mystery system from Brindlewood Bay.
Both the Powered by the Apocalypse “system” and the Carved from Brindlewood license are pretty open. Vincent & Meguey Baker do not lay claim to the 2d6 mechanics of Apocalypse World, but rather use “Powered by the Apocalypse” to signify that a game was inspired by Apocalypse World in some way. There are thousands of PbtA games out there, many of which alter what some folks may have originally thought were key parts of PbtA. Meanwhile, Gauntlet Publishing runs a Discord channel that welcomes people’s ideas that use the Carved from Brindlewood label, and creates channels for each new game that has a name and a draft ready to go.
R’LYEH, by Another Cosmic Zine.
R’lyeh is a hack of Durf.
It adapts the game’s procedures and themes into a ruleset designed for tabletop scenarios of horror, investigation, mystery and madness.
Both this game and its predecessor are designed to be hacked and re-worked, and are licensed under Creative Commons 4.0. They are fairly rules light and would probably benefit from having some supplements and home-brew! This game looks to be somewhat indifferent to the time period it’s set in, which tells me that you can probably run it in the early 19th century with little adjustments needed.
Cthork Borg, by kumada1.
Cthork Borg is a full conversion hack that adapts MÖRK BORG to a jazz age cosmic horror setting.
Cthork Borg uses the Mork Borg Third-Party License, which is fairly permissive and allows you to reference the mechanics and rules of the game. The creator for Cthork Borg even offers up the colours used in the game so that creators can create using the same colour palette! You’ll also be able to check out some other material that’s already been made for this game on the link above, including extra classes for characters, a guide to the setting, and rules for adding animals!

Here’s the pre-viz for what’s probably the best fight Marvel has ever done: the causeway fight in Captain America: Winter Soldier.
It’s nice to see what moves translated to the film exactly how they’re played out here. Great stuff.

Hyperallergic: Art Movements

Art Movements is a weekly collection of news, developments, and stirrings in the art world.
Iraqi troops recaptured the ancient city of Hatra. Much of the city is believed to have been destroyed and ransacked by ISIS.
President Trump signed an executive order instructing Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke to review national monument designations from 1996 onwards, sparking concerns that the administration will attempt to repeal existing monuments.
Lesha Limonov received the 2017 Rijksstudio Award — the Rijksmuseum’s international design award — for a series of sleeping masks inspired by Johannes Cornelisz Verspronck’s “Portrait of a Girl Dressed in Blue” (1641). Esther Pi and Timo Waag’s “Eden Condoms” and Jessie Hall’s “Plant Study Hats” won second and third place, respectively.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is reportedly in talks with New York City’s municipal government over the possibility of charging a fixed entry fee to visitors from outside the city.
The city of New Orleans removed the first of four Confederate monuments slated for relocation.
Austrian auctioneers Im Kinsky pulled a Nazi-looted 17th-century portrait from auction hours before it was due to be sold after receiving a slew of complaints and “anonymous threats.” The heirs of Jewish-German industrialist and art collector Adolphe Schloss expressed outrage over the planned sale of Bartholomeus van der Helst’s “Portrait of a Man” (1647). The work was looted from the Schloss family in 1943 and was chosen for inclusion in Adolf Hitler’s planned Führermuseum in Linz. The auction house initially defended the planned sale after claiming it had the right to sell the work under Austrian law.
A notice put up in staff rooms at both Tate Modern and Tate Britain asking staff to contribute funds toward a sailing boat for outgoing director Nicholas Serota was removed following intense criticism by staff. The notice asked employees to chip in for the “surprise gift” for Serota. Tracy Edwards, the PCS Union representative for Tate staff, told the Guardian that she initially thought the notice was a spoof. “The staff at Tate are underpaid paid and overworked, and haven’t had appropriate pay rises,” she added, “and this just demonstrates how divorced from reality the management at Tate are.”

Staff at the British Library digitized The Klencke Atlas (1660) — one of the world’s largest atlases.
An IT manager at the American Museum of Natural History filed a lawsuit against the museum. Peter Bryan Torres alleges that his supervisor, museum CIO Juan Montes, began a discriminatory campaign against him after learning about his HIV-positive status.
Sotheby’s will hold its inaugural sale of modern and contemporary African art on May 16.
Sky News named arts publicist Erica Bolton as one of a number of UK company directors potentially facing a directorship ban by the Insolvency Service. Bolton was a trustee of Kids Company, a high-profile charity that was closed amid accusations of financial and operational mismanagement.
Historic England launched a crowdfunding campaign to restore Peter Laszlo Peri‘s sculpture, “The Sunbathers.” The work was displayed at the 1951 Festival of Britain.
US Assemblyman Matthew Harper (R-Huntington Beach) authored A.B. 629, a bill that would allow art gallery owners throughout the state of California to serve beer and wine without a license from the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
Instagram removed two black-and-white nude photographs by Imogen Cunningham posted by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Dutch architecture firm Attika Architekten installed emoji roundels on the facade of a new building in the city of Amersfoort.

Wonder why you haven't read lately?
You haven't yet heard of DEATH RATTLE, Harper Hargraves' debut anti-novel. It is about a young woman in 1957, wrestling with meaning as a subject in a world of indifferent objects. It is about consciousness, who we pretend to be to make ourselves feel safe. It's about dangerous liaisons, pulp fiction. Anti-fiction. Send me a message today to get a link to your very own copy of Fordham Road< the excerpt that started it all.
Search for the cutting edge, be prepared to bleed.
IT REMAINS WORTH SAYING THAT IF YOU STEAL MY WRITING I WILL DIE ON YOUR DOORSTEP AND YOU WILL HAVE TO BURY ME AND I KNOW SOMEONE WHO KNOWS FROM EXPERIENCE THAT IT TAKES HOURS TO DIG A HOLE . YOU DON'T WANT THAT DO YOU.
