Note
Since youre antifascist, how about you give us a definition of fascism? What exactly makes someone a fascist? (and in case you use terms such as left-wing or right-wing be sure to define them too)
Guess it's been a while since a clever Anon challenged us to define fascism, huh? Right, let's get into it: Via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum:
Tumblr media
Yale professor Jason Stanley:
Tumblr media
“Fascism is a creation of race hatred and its politically organized expression.” - Willhelm Reich, The Mass Psychology of Fascism (1933).
“Fascism is capitalism plus murder.” - Upton Sinclair
“Repression by brute force is always a confession of the inability to make use of the better weapons of the intellect — better because they alone give promise of final success. This is the fundamental error from which Fascism suffers and which will ultimately cause its downfall…that its foreign policy, based as it is on the avowed principle of force in international relations, cannot fail to give rise to an endless series of wars that must destroy all of modern civilization requires no further discussion. To maintain and further raise our present level of economic development, peace among nations must be assured. But they cannot live together in peace if the basic tenet of the ideology by which they are governed is the belief that one’s own nation can secure its place in the community of nations by force alone. ” - Ludwig von Mises,  Liberalism: A Socio-Economic Exposition (1927).
“Spent most of the day reading fascisti leaflets. They certainly have turned the whole country into an army. From cradle to grave one is cast in the mould of fascismo and there can be no escape … It is certainly a socialist experiment in that it destroys individuality. It destroys liberty.” -  Harold Nicolson, The Harold Nicolson Diaries : 1919-1964 (2004).
“The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerated the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than the democratic state itself. That in its essence is fascism: ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power.” - Franklin D. Roosevelt
“A fascist is one whose lust for money or power is combined with such an intensity of intolerance toward those of other races, parties, classes, religions, cultures, regions or nations as to make him ruthless in his use of deceit or violence to attain his ends….If we define an American fascist as one who in case of conflict puts money and power ahead of human beings, then there are undoubtedly several million fascists in the United States.” - Henry A. Wallace
“Fascism is the cult of organised murder, invented by the arch-enemies of society. It tends to destroy civilization and revert man to his most barbarous state. Mussolini and Hitler might well be called the devils of an age, for they are playing hell with civilization.” - Marcus Garvey,  Authors take Sides on the Spanish War, 1937 Philosophy Tube's breakdown of the elements of fascism is very thorough and recommended if you're not the reading type. But do you read books? We hope so if you're looking to engage in political discussion about anything. Here are some books that tackle the definition of fascism, in whole or in part, that we would recommend to you (check/order from your local library!) Mark Bray's highly-accessible Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook is a great starting point for this topic.
Tumblr media
Columbia history professor Robert O. Paxton's excellent book The Anatomy of Fascism goes into this in great detail.
Tumblr media
There's also Umberto Eco's The Eternal Fascist
Tumblr media
or his "practical list for identifying fascists" as well as Hannah Arendt's seminal The Origins of Totalitarianism
Tumblr media
We hope you weren't looking for a simple answer to the complex question of "what is fascism?" Anon, just as we hope you're up to taking our challenge of checking out all of the above so you're curiosity is satisfied and you're well-versed on the topic.

2023: Agustí Villaronga, Agustí Villaronga i Riutort, regista, sceneggiatore e attore spagnolo.

Yes Virginia, The Nazis Were Fascists - Part Three
(this is part three of a continuation of a discussion we've been having with an Anon who challenged us to define fascism. In our previous response, we provided Anon with a photo of a poster from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, a bullet list from Yale professor Jason Stanley, quotes from William Reich, Ludwig von Mises, Harold Nicolson, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Henry A. Wallace, Marcus Garvey, a link to a video breakdown of the subject by Philosophy Tube, and recommendations to read books by historians Mark Bray, Robert O. Paxton, Umberto Eco, and Hannah Arendt - all of whom have published key works on the topic. Anon did not do his homework and instead sent us an immediate reply, informed solely by the two images we included in our response, ignoring everything else we cited. His reply includes some, uhh, pretty incredulous claims. In this post, we crack our knuckles, get someone to hold our beer, and tee off).
ANON: Once again, the nazis wouldn't be considered fascists. They weren't capitalists.
The nazis were absolutely capitalists, Anon, despite what they may have said early on as they rose to power. Historian Robert O. Paxton again:
"Whenever fascist parties acquired power, however, they did nothing to carry out these anticapitalist threats." (Ibid., pg. 10).
"In practice, although fascist regimes did indeed make some breath-taking changes, they left the distribution of property and the economic and social hierarchy largely intact (differing fundamentally from what the word revolution had usually meant since 1789).  The reach of the fascist “revolution” was restricted by two factors. For one thing, even at their most radical, early fascist programs and rhetoric had never attacked wealth and capitalism as directly as a hasty reading might suggest.  As for social hierarchy, fascism’s leadership principle effectively reinforced it, though fascists posed some threat to inherited position by advocating the replacement of the tired bourgeois elite by fascist 'new men.'”  (Ibid., pg. 141) The crony capitalism enacted by the nazis let brute force to the profit motives of their capitalist allies that helped them seize power, by providing capitalists with murderous anti-union violence, valuable assets seized from Jews and other "enemies of the state," lucrative government contracts doled out based on a company's devotion to Hitler, and slave labour. ANON: Corporate power wasn't necessarily protected (whatever that means). Labour power wasn't suppressed. AI: You're plainly wrong on both counts. The nazis developed an economic system called "crony capitalism" where wealthy business owners were given tremendous advantages if they allied with and supported the nazis, including repression of trade unions, rewarding resources looted from competitors, and the use of slave labour. Major German corporations like Krupp and I.G. Farben did exactly that. "Businessmen contributed hugely to the new Nazi authorities and set about accommodating themselves to a regime that would reward many of them richly with armaments contracts, and all of them by breaking the back of organized labor in Germany." (Robert O. Paxton, The Anatomy of Fascism, pg. 100). Another big perk for corporations supporting the nazis was their promise to violently repress labour unions. In 1933, the nazis outlawed independent labour unions and forced workers to join the nazis' own rat union. They also froze workers' wages. Some of the first people sent to nazi concentration camps were union leaders like Ernst Thälmann - thousands of union activists were tortured and executed between 1933 and 1945.

Joseph Leslie "Joe" Sample (February 1, 1939 – September 12, 2014) was an American pianist, keyboard player, and composer. He was one of the founding members of the Jazz Crusaders, the band which became simply the Crusaders in 1971, and remained a part of the group until its final album in 1991 (not including the 2003 reunion album Rural Renewal).
Beginning in the 1970s, he enjoyed a successful solo career and guested on many recordings by other performers and groups, including Miles Davis, George Benson, Jimmy Witherspoon, B. B. King, Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, and the Supremes. Sample incorporated jazz, gospel, blues, Latin, and classical forms into his music.
On September 12, 2014, Sample died in Houston, Texas, of mesothelioma at age 75.
Biography
Sample was born in Houston, Texas on February 1, 1939. Sample began to play the piano at age 5. He was a student of the organist and pianist Curtis Mayo.
In high school in the 1950s, Sample teamed up with friends saxophonist Wilton Felder and drummer "Stix" Hooper to form a group called the Swingsters. While studying piano at Texas Southern University, Sample met and added trombonist Wayne Henderson and several other players to the Swingsters, which became the Modern Jazz Sextet and then the Jazz Crusaders, in emulation of one of the leading progressive jazz bands of the day, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. Sample never took a degree from the university; instead, in 1960, he and the Jazz Crusaders made the move from Houston to Los Angeles.
The group quickly found opportunities on the West Coast, making its first recording, Freedom Sounds in 1961 and releasing up to four albums a year over much of the 1960s. The Jazz Crusaders played at first in the dominant hard bop style of the day, standing out by virtue of their unusual front-line combination of saxophone (played by Wilton Felder) and Henderson's trombone. Another distinctive quality was the funky, rhythmically appealing acoustic piano playing of Sample, who helped steer the group's sound into a fusion between jazz and soul in the late 1960s. The Jazz Crusaders became a strong concert draw during those years.
While Sample and his band mates continued to work together, he and the other band members pursued individual work as well. In 1969 Sample made his first recording under his own name; Fancy Dance featured the pianist as part of a jazz trio. In the 1970s, as the Jazz Crusaders became simply the Crusaders and branched out into popular sounds, Sample became known as a Los Angeles studio musician, appearing on recordings by the likes of Joni Mitchell, Marvin Gaye, Tina Turner, B. B. King, Joe Cocker, Minnie Riperton and Anita Baker. In 1975 he went into the studios with jazz legends Ray Brown on bass, and drummer Shelly Manne to produce a then state-of-the-art recording direct to disc entitled The Three. About this time Blue Note Records reissued some of the early work by the Jazz Crusaders as "The Young Rabbits". This was a compilation of their recordings done between 1962 and 1968.
The electric keyboard was fairly new in the sixties, and Sample became one of the instrument's pioneers. He began to use the electric piano while the group retained their original name, and the group hit a commercial high-water mark with the hit single "Street Life" and the album of the same name in 1979. In 1978 he recorded Swing Street Café with guitarist David T. Walker.
The Crusaders, after losing several key members, broke up after recording Life in the Modern World for the GRP label in 1987. Despite the disbanding of the Crusaders, the members would join each other to record periodically over the years, releasing Healing the Wounds in the early 1990s. Felder, Hooper, and Sample recorded their first album, called Rural Renewal, as the reunited Crusaders group in 2003 and played a concert in Japan in 2004.
Since Sample's Fancy Dance (1969), he has recorded several solo albums, including the George Duke produced Sample This.
GRP also released Joe Sample Collection, and a three-disc Crusaders Collection, as testament to Sample's enduring legacy. Some of the pianist's recent recordings are The Song Lives On (1999), featuring duets with singer Lalah Hathaway, and The Pecan Tree (2002), a tribute to his hometown of Houston, where he relocated in 1994. His 2004 album on Verve, Soul Shadows, paid tribute to Duke Ellington and Jelly Roll Morton, and pre-jazz bandleader James Reese Europe. In 2007 he recorded Feeling Good with vocalist Randy Crawford.
In 1983, MCA released Joe Sample's The Hunter LP. The Hunter sessions had taken place during the previous year at Hollywood Sound Recorders and Salty Dog Studios in Los Angeles, producing a fine body of recordings of which six were brought forward. Fans believe there maybe other recordings from the sessions yet to be released. Amongst the six tracks was the nine-minute Night Flight. UK Jazz Funk and Soul DJ Robbie Vincent premiered Night Flight in its entirety in the spring of 1983 on his Radio London "Saturday Show" prompting a surge of jazz fusion enthusiasts and Sample fans to buy up all the import copies from London stores. For Sample, The Hunter album featured a number of leading musicians of the day including Marcus Miller on bass and Paulinho Da Costa on percussion. Sample was also joined on the album by Phil Upchurch on lead guitar, Dean Parks (also on guitar), Steve Gadd and Bob Wilson on drums, John Phillips on bass clarinet, and Abraham Laboriel on bass. For production, Joe Sample called on his Crusaders' stable mate Wilton Felder. The Hunter album came at a very important juncture in Sample's solo push. Night Flight remains the great achievement from these sessions, although fans were extremely disappointed when an edited version appeared on the compilation Joe Sample Collection. The Hunter album has been transferred to CD from the original tapes but fans are still awaiting a remastered expanded edition with previously unreleased material and demos.
Sample appeared on stage at The Waterfront Hall, Belfast, Northern Ireland, on 28 May 2000, playing keyboard solo on George Benson's Deeper Than You Think. This concert was recorded and a DVD entitled George Benson: Absolutely Live was subsequently released. A studio version of Deeper Than You Think was recorded featuring Joe Sample in New York in May 1999 during sessions for a Benson collection which took the title Absolutely Benson. Fans again believe there may have been other collaborations of Sample - Benson which remain in the vaults unreleased.
Some of his works were featured on The Weather Channel's "Local on the 8s" segments and his song "Rainbow Seeker" is included in their 2008 compilation release, The Weather Channel Presents: Smooth Jazz II. Nicole Kidman sang his song "One Day I'll Fly Away" in the Baz Luhrmann film Moulin Rouge! The very popular "In All My Wildest Dreams", also from the 1978 album Rainbow Seeker, was sampled on Tupac's "Dear Mama", De la Soul's "WRMS's Dedication to the Bitty", Toni Braxton's "What's Good" and Arrested Development's "Africa's Inside Me".
Sample had a bassist son named Nicklas Sample (with ex-wife Marianne), who is a member of the Coryell Auger Sample Trio featuring Julian Coryell and Karma Auger.
On September 12, 2014, Sample died in Houston, Texas from complications from mesothelioma lung disease. He was 75 years old. Sample had also suffered two heart attacks — the most recent in 2009. According to the Los Angeles Times he had also suffered illness caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, which produces chronic fatigue. In 2013, Sample was hospitalized with pneumonia, according to Variety, the Hollywood and music industry trade paper.

Modern Day False Teachers
"But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, . . . " - 2 Peter 2:1
Why is it that so few Chrisitan appear concerned about the existence of False Prophets?. From the way many of us talk about the subject you might wonder whether we believe any teacher deserves to be so categorized. It is as if the only heresy left in our culture is to call someone a heretic. But why? Confrontation may be too uncomfortable for some. Calling someone a heretic may seem too judgmental.   Many simply follow the crowd, rather than follow the Bible, unwilling and unequipped to challenge the faith they were raised in. Maybe it is too difficult to think this deeply ... but Jesus said, "the way is easy that leads to destruction" but it is the difficult "narrow path that leads to life". Christians must, therefore, arm themselves against false prophets .. and recognizing who they are requires knowledge. And knowledge requires a study of God's word.
Jesus, the apostles Paul, Peter, and John all repeatedly warned such men would rise up among us, and lead many astray, even within the visible church. They warned that not only would there be many False Teachers, there would be many followers of them as well ...people "to suit their own desires ...will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear." (2 Tim 4:3). Sadly, very few people do their homework when considering their own pastors, so the wolves have taken advantage of this fact to keep multitudes in their blinded condition. Obviously we should not easily call other people a heretic, but if they publicly teach doctrine long recognized by the church as false, then we ought to call it out.
Here is a list of of the more obvious heretics/false teachers to be marked & avoided (not exhaustive):

Milford’s historical charter commission
A number of reforms were proposed (and defeated) at this spring’s town meeting in Milford.  Now seems like a good time to recall the 1970s effort to approve a charter for Milford, and see what we can learn from it.
All info comes from the Milford Town Library, either their microfilm archive of the Milford Daily News, or their online archive of annual town reports.
It has been fifty years since we last examined how our town is governed; are we due for a re-examination?
TEXT OF PROPOSED CHARTER
TIMELINE
October 1969: Town Government Study Committee supports home rule charter commission March 2, 1970: Town votes, 3937 - 1439, to elect a charter commission. (Also vote to discontinue fluoridation.)  More than 7,000 people voted. March 18, 1970: Appropriates $12,000 to charter commission for consultants. October 30, 1970: Charter Commission preliminary report printed in Milford Daily News January 4, 1971: Charter Commission delivers final report March 1, 1971: Town votes, 3807 - 2744, to reject the proposed charter.  More than 7,600 people voted. 1975: Board of Selectmen reappoints Charter Study Commission to allow it to prepare town meeting articles based on its proposed charter. April 25-27, 1977: Town meeting votes on multiple articles from Charter Study Committee.
Article 45 -- to combine Highway, Tree, Sewer, Cemetery, Parks, Planning, and several other departments into a single department of public works -- fails by a voice vote.
Article 46 -- to expand Board of Selectmen from three to five, pending approval from voters at the next town election -- passes by a vote of 98-69.
Article 47 -- to reduce the number of town meeting members from 215(?) to 105, eliminate at-large members, require recording of attendance and votes, establish standing committees, and publish rules of procedure -- fails by a voice vote.
April 3, 1978: Town votes, 2881 - 1692, to reject the proposed expansion of the Board of Selectmen.  Fewer than 5,000 people voted.

Report of the Town Govt. Study Committee (1970 ATM)
The Town Government Study Committee (T.G.S.C.) is a committee appointed by the Selectmen. Its assigned function is to study local governmental structure. On June 18, 1969 the T.G.S.C. held its organizational meeting and elected new officers. In order to obtain a broader representation of our community the committee requested, and on July 14, 1969 the Selectmen approved, the expansion of the committee to twenty-nine members.
Since that time the T.G.S.C. has been addressed by several guest speakers. All are considered prominent authorities in Municipal government. The speakers included Atty. William Leonard an authority on the Home Rule Amendment and Chairman of the Northboro Charter Commission. John Cronin, Executive Secretary of Milton. Mr. Robert O’Hare, Director of the Bureau of Public Affairs at Boston College. Michael P. Curran, Former Chairman of the Home Rule Implementation Committee and presently associated with Municipal Consultants Incorporated.
On August 29, 1969 the T.G.S.C. distributed a questionnaire to our public officials to obtain their opinions on our governmental structure. This survey indicated that many town officials felt a need for further study. As a result of these addresses, the survey and the research of our subcommittees, the Town Government Study Committee on October 29, 1969 unanimously endorsed the establishment of a Home Rule Charter Commission.
Our petition drive to secure the 1489 valid signatures to place the question of a Charter Commission on ballot was successful and as you know the voters of Milford approved the formation of a Charter Commission by a three to one margin.
As stated previously the purpose of the Town Government Study Committee, an appointive committee, is to study local governmental structure. The purpose of the Milford Charter Commission, an elected body, is also to study local governmental structure, and to draw up a charter for Milford. I have discussed the future role of the T.G.S.C. with several of its members and consequently I feel that it would be wise to request the Selectmen to suspend the activities of the T.G.S.C. until the Milford Charter Commission completes its study.
Respectfully submitted,
DAVID P. HAYES Chairman T.G.S.C.
Members of the T.G.S.C. are:
Harris M. Tredeau, Vice Chairman; Julie A. Rizoli, Secretary; George F. Belforti, Edward C. Carroll, Richard B. Carter, Fred W. Clarridge, Atty. Anthony N. Compagnone, Salvatore P. Cimino, George F. REPORT OF THE MILFORD CHARTER COMMISSION
Board of Selectmen Town Hall
Milford, Massachusetts
January 4, 1971
Gentlemen:
The nine member Milford Charter Commission was elected at the annual election last March for the purpose of drawing up a Charter (Constitution) for the Town of Milford. The Town Meeting appropriated $12,000 to assist us in our work.
Since the election of the Charter Commission in March, the Commission has conducted fifty meetings. One of our initial decisions was to engage Municipal Consultants Inc., a leading authority in the state in the field of home rule. During the ten month period since its election, the Commission has conducted two public hearings, interviewed town officials, studied the various alternatives open to us and finally drafted the preliminary report which was published in the Milford Daily News on Friday, October 30, 1970.
The final report is the result of nearly three years study by both the Town Government Study Committee and the elected nine member Charter Commission.
Briefly stated, the most significant changes to our present system of government included in the charter are as follows:
(1) It establishes the position of town administrator, appointed by the Board of Selectmen, and responsible for the day to day administration of town affairs.
(2) It provides for a new fiscal management procedure including a capital improvement program for long-range planning. Also provided for are centralized purchasing, inventory control and continuing supervision for all departmental budgets.
(3) It provides for a new consolidated department of public works. Under this department the responsibilities of the present highway, sewer, tree and other departments concerned with maintenance will be merged.
(4) It increases the membership of the Board of Selectmen from three to five members to broaden the base of its authority, and it increases the membership of the School Committee from six to seven members.
(5) It provides many improvements relative to the Representative Town Meeting, such as a continuous meeting; recording of votes; a standing committee system; publication of rules of procedure, and the appointment of a deputy moderator. It also establishes that voters in each precinct will be required to elect only seven town meeting members from each precinct each year for three year terms, for a total membership of 105. Chapter 43B of the General Laws requires that a Charter Commission must submit its final report to the Board of Selectmen within ten months after its election. Chapter 43B further states that the Board of Selectmen shall provide for the publication and distribution of the Charter and for its submission to the voters at the next annual town election. If the Charter is approved by a majority of the vote then it shall go into effect as stipulated in the Charter.
We of the Charter Commission are confident that we have framed a charter that is truly tailor made to the needs of our community. We strongly feel that it represents the convictions of the vast majority of our citizens, and that it presents a very positive approach to the management of our governmental affairs.
Respectfully submitted,
MILFORD CHARTER COMMISSION DAVID P. HAYES, Chairman HARRIS M. TREDEAU, Vice Chairman JULIE ANNE RIZOLI, Clerk ANTHONY J. BRENNA ANGELO A. CALAGIONE SALVATORE P. CIMINO JOHN C. DALTON EDWARD PATRICK DOHERTY JOHN P. PYNE, JR.

Subject:
Jewish Boycott
Iran's Supreme Leader Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei once urged the Muslim World to boycott anything and everything that originates with the Jewish people.
In response, Meyer M. Treinkman, a pharmacist, out of the kindness of his heart, offered to assist them in their boycott as follows:
"Any Muslim who has Syphilis must not be cured by Salvarsan discovered by a Jew, Dr. Ehrlich. He should not even try to find out whether he has Syphilis, because the Wasserman Test is the discovery of a Jew. If a Muslim suspects that he has Gonorrhea, he must not seek diagnosis, because he will be using the method of a Jew named Neissner.
"A Muslim who has heart disease must not use Digitalis, a discovery by a Jew, Ludwig Traube.
Should he suffer with a toothache, he must not use Novocaine, a discovery of the Jews, Widal and Weil.
If a Muslim has Diabetes, he must not use Insulin, the result of research by Minkowsky, a Jew. If one has a headache, he must shun Pyramidon and Antypyrin, due to the Jews, Spiro and Ellege.
Muslims with convulsions must put up with them because it was a Jew, Oscar Leibreich, who proposed the use of Chloral Hydrate.
Arabs must do likewise with their psychic ailments because Freud, father of psychoanalysis, was a Jew.
Should a Muslim child get Diphtheria, he must refrain from the Schick" reaction which was invented by the Jew, Bella Schick.
"Muslims should be ready to die in great numbers and must not permit treatment of ear and brain damage, work of Jewish Nobel Prize winner, Robert Baram.
They should continue to die or remain crippled by Infantile Paralysis because the discoverer of the anti-polio vaccine is a Jew, Jonas Salk.
"Muslims must refuse to use Streptomycin and continue to die of Tuberculosis because a Jew, Zalman Waxman, invented the wonder drug against this killing disease.
Muslim doctors must discard all discoveries and improvements by dermatologist Judas Sehn Benedict, or the lung specialist, Frawnkel, and of many other world renowned Jewish scientists and medical experts.
"In short, good and loyal Muslims properly and fittingly should remain afflicted with Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Heart Disease, Headaches, Typhus, Diabetes, Mental Disorders, Polio Convulsions and Tuberculosis and be proud to obey the Islamic boycott."
Oh, and by the way, don't call for a doctor on your cell phone because the cell phone was invented in Israel by a Jewish engineer.
Meanwhile I ask, what medical contributions to the world have the Muslims made?"

The Jews are NOT promoting brainwashing children in military training camps, teaching them how to blow themselves up and cause maximum deaths of Jews and other non-Muslims.
The Jews don't hijack planes, nor kill athletes at the Olympics, or blow themselves up in German restaurants.
There is NOT one single Jew who has destroyed a church.
There is NOT a single Jew who protests by killing people. The Jews don't traffic slaves, nor have leaders calling for Jihad and death to all the Infidels.

It is now more than 65 years after the Second World War in Europe ended.
Now, more than ever, with Iran, among others, claiming the Holocaust to be 'a myth,' it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets.
This e-mail is intended to reach 400 million people. Be a link in the memorial chain and help distribute this around the world.
How many years will it be before the attack on the World Trade Center 'NEVER HAPPENED' because it offends some Muslim?
