if there was something that lando norris loved (little) more than racing was his girlfriend's culture. each part of her culture, the movies, the songs, the festivals, the mythological stories behind them, it was all very fascinating to him.

now, she herself wasn't much of a spiritual person but everytime she visited india, or took him there, it was a practically now a ritual to go to gurudwara together.

"what are they doing?" lando whispered as he watched man hold a woman's dupatta while walking around in circles. "oh they're doing the parikrama," she replied. "basically they move in circles around the guru granth sahib to express devotion to the deity and to deepen their connection with the divine. it's a tradition in sikh weddings to do when they get married," she explained.

"so in short they're getting married," he says. "yeah, pretty much but that ritual is called parikrama," she shrugged.

that was months ago.

when lando visited her family for diwali, she took him to gurudwara as usual. he couldn't help but be tempted to hold the ends of her dupatta like he saw that man do months ago. fuck it, he thinks to himself before holding the ends of her dupatta at they do circles of guru granth sahib.

i'm sorry for swearing in the holy place god but i promise it's gonna be just this once, he mentally apologizes.

"so are we Hyphenating our surnames or do you think norris suits your name? in my opinion it does," he whispered to her. "what are you talking about? we're not married yet," she whispered back, her eyes still closed, hands joined infront of her chest.

the yet did melt his heart. "come on don't hurt me so early in our marrige baby," he said cockily. "what──" her sentence is cut short as she notices him holding the ends of her dupatta, which was ironically red. and that damn smug look on his face.

"lando you just can't do that!" she whisper-yelled. "yeah you're right," he sighs. "baby diamond or rubies? i need to propose first?" he said.

one would've assumed that it made her uncomfortable but lando knew his girlfriend all too well. the stuttering, inability to form a sentence, avoiding his eyes, her lopsided smile, the blush on her neck and cheeks. it made her flustered over uncomfortable.

it was humorous yet sincere was to communicate his commitment to her. and he couldn't help but to wish it do over and over again. if it meant seening her so happy yet flustered. maybe do it officially some day.

Arnav Singh was in love with Khushi Kumari Gupta but never wanted to confess, yet he wanted her to understand without words.

He wanted to play hide-and-seek and give her and this entire world all the cues that she was the one who was ruling his heart.

He couldn't breathe without seeing her happy. Her tears were like the arrows to his heart. She closed her eyes on the mercy of the circumstances created by this destiny, where Shyam was tearing her soul every other second. Maybe destiny had another plan for her to send her a true saviour, the one who was carrying all the armour to cut the throat of Shyam, not letting him even utter her name. Ironically, ASR had no idea of anything yet; all he had in his mind was to show her the way back to his heart.

He felt the pain to his core on the night of Diwali when he was wrong. But he knew and was happy when she forgave him and looked into his eyes before shaking hands for his sister's sake. He wished he'd known her forever, keeping her by his side and hearing her voice in his ear. Today, he wanted to feel her skin on his skin, elevating the soul connection through heartbeats. The ones they both could hear and understand without words. He wanted her to feel the very same way how he was feeling.

He danced in front of every eye of this world, keeping her so close. His eyes focused on her all this time; he forgot the entire universe and every eye, yet all of her. He remembered her in his arms, feeling her close, listening to her heartbeat. He lifted her along the length of his body, letting her sprawled hair cover his visage. Nudging the side of her face orientally and letting her know she was gorgeous. He pulled her towards his chest, almost hugged her when she felt anxious and held her when he felt hurt. He wanted her to know when he smelt her and offended her when he touched her.  He royally wanted to confess that he knew when she whimpered being next to him. He wanted her to understand that every dribble on her skin that disappeared into her heaving chest had his name on it. Smothering into her that night, he wanted her to melt along. Yes, he was in love with her, and every eye could feel it and melted with them seeing this unconditional love of two hearts in front of them.

How could she resist? Her heart could not handle this much love, but she could take his eyes off or refuse to turn his eyes away from what his heart was aspiring to. She'd never rejected him but wondered who he was but accepted him anyway. She wanted to tell him about the tree angel enchanted forest boy, her Laad Governor, who flew across the ocean because he loved her and wrote poems on her skin. She wondered why he didn't believe her on Diwali night and had a deep feeling that she couldn't find words for it, yet she rejected it, and he rejected it.

All he could deliver was a rim of tears and an apology, saying through his eyes that he had always had this belief from the first time he saw her and wandered all this time thinking his life was empty without her. He wanted to be clear that he knew what she wanted and felt when she was losing herself on Diwali night, but now he trusted that she was safe with him and believed that he would try to give her the best of him because she didn't deserve any less.

Yet he didn't say  I love you, or she reciprocated the same, but their hearts knew and believed in everything their eyes said tonight.

Yet the “but” takes away the ‘I love you’.In love, there are no ‘buts’ or ‘ifs’ or ‘whens’.  It’s just there and permanently. No beginning, no end. It’s the condition-less state of the heart. Not a feeling that comes and goes at the whim of the emotions. It is there in our heart, a part of our heart…eventually grafting itself into each limb and cell of our bodies. Love changes our brains and the way we move and talk. Love lives in our spirit and graces us with its presence each day until death.

To say “I love you, but….” is to say, “I did not love you at all”.

This is what he said at the airport through his actions. He went away, leaving her there thinking of the worst, but the distance from her brought him closer to her than ever.

Being abducted, he wanted to say this to her: "I love you, with no beginning, no end. I love you as you have become a part of my heart and soul. I love you as only you could love a man like me. Without fear. Without expectations. I want nothing in return except that you allow me to keep you here in my heart so that I may always know your strength, eyes, and spirit, which gave me freedom and let me fly like no one out there.”

Finally, he understood that it was love in its purest form, and in these last few days with his silent surroundings without her around, he had felt her voice as surely as he had heard the music spilling from those stars at a distance. He imagined every moment of Teri Meri's dance night when he held her so close last time as if there was no tomorrow. He pulled her firmly with a fear of losing her again. He met that fear more than ever, yet she hugged him tightly, this time ensuring she was there and would be with him forever.

They heard that a lot, but it was real for them. She loved him despite everything; She had saved his life more than once. She has always been there with her love, undoubtedly making him forget the pain for a long time. When it got dark, everybody was gone, and the lights were turned off; it was just him and her and that one belief that unconditional love was a truth that stood tall all this time, whether they were close or far from each other. This was what their love was––a sacred pattern of unbroken unity sewn flawlessly invisible  inside all other thoughts, heartbeats, smells, and voices within and beyond this universe.

But the intimacy of soft celebrations and the adherence to the control of many environmental obligations is revered .. as another year of the year of Lights ends , to another day of light ..

The intrigue of religious festivities .. their time and date and occasion still brings a wonder to many .. indeed to a great many .. and the readings of our Ef Sudhir and his dedicated research on the subject does evoke curiosity .. and awareness ...

The Calendar

There are two lunar calendars in the Jyotish Shastra… One is Purnaant and the other is Amaant…

There's a gap of 15 days between the two, although the order of the months are the same…

For instance, Deepavali's Lakshmi puja is on Purnaant Kartik Amavasya… while the same day is Amaant Ashwin Amavasya in some states…

So, the festival has a different reason in each region, and one common reason at the national level…

Like, the South, where the Lakshmi puja night of diwali is to recall the victory of Krishna over Narakaasur… In the North, it's for the return of Shri Ram to Ayodhya…

The concept of a civilisation made of many cultures dates back to the Treta Yug…

Diwali is celebrated for different days in different places… One day, three days, five days and eleven days… depending on the local history…

Yes… the different calendars, different cultures, but the same festivals, and the same civilisation…

You know, what… I think it's always an advantage when we do something that has no precedence… when there is nothing to refer…

This organisation of a nation is first envisaged in the chronicles of the satyug… each kingdom was called a country… group of countries was a region… the collective of regions was called a nation…

In Hindi - देश, प्रदेश तथा राष्ट्र…

What calendar do I follow?

I follow Rishi Varāhamihira's Brihat Samhita… In that, there is no need of dividing time into months and years…

The movements of cosmic objects don't need a calendar to have months and years… Only days are enough… Just count the days from a no-moon or a new-moon… the patterns are measurable and predictable…

Like,

The diwali always happens on the same no-moon night… regardless of which month in which state…

Thus, all the differences are dissolved in the universal medium… 🙂

About the light…

Darkness is not displaced by light… darkness is eliminated by light…

तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय।

Easiest way to do it is: Use one lamp to light the next… A series of lamps… Hence, Deepavali… Deep + Aavali - strings of light…
