So, first of all, may the Tumblr gods rain benedictions on user hannibalaesthetic for their work identifying Hannibal filming locations. Eight years into the future, this makes me so happy.

As a total weirdo and die-hard “No, this show is definitely set in Toronto; I don’t care that they keep saying FBI instead of RCMP, I know my home province when I see it” truther, I needed to know:

A) whether there was any kind of escarpment whatsoever behind the house where they filmed

[no; it seems to be in a big ol’ field],

…and, corollary-

B ) if they were going to fall down a waterfront escarpment, in the backyard of a residential property in the GTA (greater Toronto area), what would that look like?

…and well - behold:

A house so close to the edge of a cliff that the local government expropriated it in 2014 to shore up the cliffs below.

This greatly pleases my headcannon gremlins, because:

- since the house was expropriated a decade ago, but is still standing, vacant, today, it seems plausible Hannibal could use it for nefarious purposes (especially if the city had expropriated more of its neighbours).

It’s not as isolated as one might hope for, but I really like that angle of “he doesn’t have unlimited capital, he’s just willing to play in the house that’s threatening to collapse into Lake Ontario”.

This would also explain why no one would know to look for him and his presumed kidnap-victim Will Graham there, giving them several hours to go from daylight (where we see them talking about the bluff eroding) to full darkness

- While I wouldn’t personally want to fall off that cliff, but like… you might be able to survive it. You’d be pretty banged up, and you’d probably have to spend a non-trivial amount of time in a Canadian hospital, but if, for example, your irresponsible idiot boss Jack Crawford finally figured out where you were, you might make it.

Given the dates, and the fact that the Scarborough Bluffs were known to the production staff (they filmed the ‘totem pole of bodies’ scene in s1 at the bottom of this same escarpment), I would not be surprised if this actually inspired the “the bluffs are eroding” line.

…though maybe that’s just me creating connections where none existed before.

Hannibal Locations - The Finale

In the dramatic finale “The Wrath of the Lamb”, Will and Hannibal are together for the last time at Hannibal’s second home, seemingly perched at the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean. The actual home, called “Cleave Horne House” is located in Pickering. CGI was used to add in the cliffs which are located at Bell Island, Newfoundland. THIS IS A PRIVATE RESIDENCE, PLEASE DO NOT TRESPASS.
