What’s good y’all? I just wanna flex this doodle I did of 10 year old Cartman in my style! I’m so used to drawing with references, but this one was done without ANY references at all. I’ve never been brave enough to post my art online but I’m so proud of this 😭
I like to imagine that Cartman always has this smug look on his face, like he’s always up to no good. Decided to throw on a scarf too because why not
I love how this turned out. He looks so mischievous and I adore it. Let me know what you guys think! I’m fairly new to drawing digitally 😁

Tumblr media
Y/N was glad to finally settle down in Seoul after her flight from Sydney. She was excited to see Bang Chan again, it had been a while as she hadn't been able to fly over with Hannah and go to their concerts, too busy with her school work. You see, Y/N always dreamed of being a director, and so when Chan had offered her to come watch them film their newest music video for their upcoming title track, S-CLASS, she couldn't deny his offer. Especially since he had promised that it would be a new experience for not just her, but for him and the rest of the boys too.
And boy was he right. If you had asked Y/N if she was going on a nighttime shoot, on a boat, in the middle of Han River, she would have laughed in your face, but her brother was big time now, and as much as she'd tease him and deny it, she was proud of Bang Chan. He even managed to get a comment along those lines from her earlier in the day.
"Y/Nnie, aren't you proud of your big bro?" Chan bounced around happily, excited for his younger sister to be staying with them, shaking her shoulders at the same time.
"Yeah, yeah," she rolled her eyes, unable to hide her growing smile as she stood in the entrance of the dorms he shared with Changbin, Han, and Hyunjin.
Speaking of, they all appeared, hearing the commotion of their leader and someone else.
"Woah, is that you, Y/N? You've grown!" Han patted her head as he greeted her.
"Not by much," she laughed, ducking away when the head pats turned into borderline hair ruffling, and no one touches her hair.
"Who knows, maybe you'll be taller than Changbinnie!" Hyunjin laughed.
"There's no way, Y/N got the small genes too, just like me and Hannah, Lucas is the only one who is tall out of us siblings," Chan sighed.
"It's so annoying. We're twins. He's got height to spare, why couldn't he give me some of it?" Y/N whined, causing Chan to laugh at her.
"Ah, join us on the dark side Y/N," Chan gestured to him and the other 2 members of 3RACHA.
"I'm in a dorm full of shorties," Hyunjin shook his head.
"Surprise, shawtyyyy," Y/N did some jazz hands, causing Han and Chan to laugh because they got the reference.
"Anyways let's drop your bags off in the spare room, then we can grab something to eat and head to the shoot, yeah?" Chan suggested as he picked up Y/N's luggage and carried it with him.
"Sounds good to me," Y/N nodded as she followed along.
Best. Dinner. Ever.
Bulgogi. Fried chicken. Kimchi. It was a proper feast. Although, the boys didn't have too much as they said they didn't want to feel bloated during the shoot, and they'd probably get some more food later. Y/N wouldn't be able to turn down that offer too, especially since her brother was paying for it all.
"So how old are you now, Y/Nnie?" Seungmin asked as she traveled with the other boys to their shoot.
"I'm 17," Y/N replied, the boys letting out noises of surprise.
"I remember when we debuted, you were only 12!" Felix gasped.
"Well, times have changed haha, it's been like 5 years, you know, you guys have been doing this for a small while now," Y/N pointed out. Of course she wasn't going to be a child forever.
"That makes me feel old," Lee Know sighs, throwing his head back against the headrest in the car.
"Well, you are the oldest one in here hyung," Jeongin patted his shoulder condescendingly.
"Yah! Our driver hyung is older than me!" Lee Know replied, turning around and staring daggers at his youngest member.
Y/N couldn't help but giggle at the interactions they had. She was glad her brother was surrounded by such good people. She knew he had found it tough before when he saw his other trainee friends debut, not fully realising how isolating that must have been until a few years ago now.
"You know, you're pretty cool, Chris," Y/N stared in awe at the boat they were about to board.
"Thanks, sis," he wrapped her in a small side hug, not teasing her this time yet still having a bashful expression on his face.
They all boarded the boat, staff, crew, members. Not realising the two suspicious hooded figures following them on and instantly hiding. In fact, Y/N thought she saw something out of the corner of her eye, jolting around so suddenly she caught the attention of Chan once more.
"You good?" he raised an eyebrow at her, looking around now also.
"Thought I saw something... it's probably nothing," Y/N brushed it off.
"It's probably jet lag," Chan guessed, and Y/N nodded along anyways. It had been a long flight over, and she was feeling her energy slowly drop. Yet that didn't stop her from eagerly trying to pick up every detail of the shoot, from the camera angles, to how many takes it took the boys on different scenes, and to other unseen aspects of the shoot.
"So let me get this right, they're going to CGI a massive octopus in?" Y/N said with wide eyes, wondering why it would be there.
"Yeah, and?" Felix shrugged.
"And Seungmin is going to dance next to it for some reason?" Y/N clasped her hands behind her back.
"So?" Han shrugged. These sorts of ideas weren't really anything out of the ordinary for them.
"That's sick!" Y/N cheered in English, making the boys jump from her sudden mood change they witnessed, thinking she was criticising what was happening at first. They now understood she was just an excitable girl.
She had been diligently taking down notes on her phone the whole time, taking photos also. The crew had been worried at first that she'd reveal spoilers for the filming, but Chan reassured them all that Y/N was a good kid and she wouldn't do anything like that.
"Hey, Chris, is there a toilet on here?" two girls crouched on a lower part of the boat heard Y/N ask her brother. Of course they recognised the girl when they snuck on earlier. They were fans before their likes turned to obsessions, so of course they knew that Y/N was Chan's sister.
"Just downstairs one and to the left," they heard Chan reply and had to hide their squeals. Maybe if they saw Y/N, they could pretend to be best friends with her and then get closer to Chan. And then, once they got closer to Chan, they could become closer with the other members too.
Delusion was a disease.
Y/N put her phone torch light on as she headed down one flight of stairs and entered the bathroom, a light flickering on instantly. She went to enter a cubicle before a bright light shined in her face and left her wincing and feeling startled.
In reality, it was the two saesang girls' best bet in getting away before they were caught. And they didn't even feel bad for what they did. It's not like they went to the extremes of using a laser.
"Ah," Y/N winced as she rubbed her eyes, but she ignored it and soon returned upstairs.
"Are you ok? You look a bit disoriented," Hyunjin checked on the younger girl as he took a break, getting his hair and clothes touched up and adjusted.
"Yeah, I'm fine, just, a bit, I don't know," Y/N didn't know what else to say. She had a bad feeling now, swearing she had heard some giggles and footsteps running away from her after she was temporarily blinded.
"Is being on the boat all too much?" Seungmin asked, feeling bad for the girl who looked dazed.
"Hey, Y/N, why don't you take a moment, yeah, I know all the cameras and lights can be a bit overwhelming," Chan came over as soon as he heard the tone difference in the voices of his group.
"Ok, I'll just be round that corner, I'm going to look out at the river," Y/N told him, receiving a satisfied nod in response as she walked off. Perhaps all she needed really was just a breather. Yes, all the set and ideas were amazing, but it was very fast paced. What happened to their song, 'My Pace'?
Y/N giggled to herself, looking out at the water before she heard people approach her from behind.
"Chris, I still need some time-"
"Ah, so you are his sister..." one of the girls, looking around 20 years old, and staring down Y/N.
"Oh, are you staff here? Sorry, Chris, umm, Chan said it was okay to come down here, but I can move if-"
"No, why don't you stay?" the other girl evily smiled.
"Well, if you're sure..." Y/N nodded and turned back towards the water, before her head was yanked back and she fell to the floor of the boat with a thud.
"Hey!" Y/N shouted, but her mouth was instantly covered.
"You're going to give us exactly what we want, isn't that right?" a harsh voice whispered into her ear with gritted teeth. But Y/N shook her head pleadingly, not wanting to be caught up in anything violent.
"Stupid!" she was slapped across the face, letting out a whimper from the pain before she was pinned to the ground.
"Listen here, you little bitch. You may think you're living the high life as Chan's sister but you've got it all wrong. Now, you're going to walk back up there with and introduce us properly to that lovely brother of yours, pretend we got lost down here, just two staff members gone missing," a girl squeezed her wrists tight as Y/N couldn't move from her position.
"Ow, shit. Get off!" Y/N struggled in their grip, feeling terrified. This is certainly not what she expected when she came to visit her brother for an innocent work experience trip.
"Do it, now," they hauled her up and pushed her back towards where everyone else was working.
"I don't have to do anything you tell me. I'll just call the police and-" Y/N bravely began as she held up her phone but it was soon knocked out of her hands, and sink into the depths of the Han River.
"Oops," a girl innocently giggled.
"Are you out of your mind?!" Y/N shouted loudly, loud enough that she would be heard by the others, particularly her older brother who was due to go down and check on her because he thought she had been taking too long.
"Some may say that," the two girls cackled maniacally amongst themselves, like it was the best inside joke in the world.
"That was my phone! It had everything on it! I need it!" Y/N shouted once more, Chan, Lee Know and Changbin's footsteps becoming more rushed now. The other two immediately joined Chan on the way when they too heard the shouting.
Y/N had a pair of hands wrapped around her throat, the other unoccupied as the owner of them smirked and simply whispered.
"Aw, you better go get it then."
In a split second, Chan and the rest of the hyung line watched as Y/N was hurled over the edge of the boat, screaming as she fell before a splash was heard.
"Y/N!!!" Chan screamed in complete and utter panic. It was dark, it was cold, and now his sister was forced to try and stay afloat in such freezing temperatures like the waters of Han River.
"Are you crazy?!" Lee Know yelled at the two girls, who were excited to see the boys, not realising the consequences of their actions.
"Y/N!!! Y/N!!! Can you hear me?!" Chan heartbreakingly yelled as he looked over the edge of the boat railings and tried to see the head of his sister pop up.
Y/N felt her airways open before she cold help it. Ice cold water, working its way through her body as it traveled to her lungs and caused her to let out muffled pleas for help, trying to swim to the surface.
"Somebody get help! Someone fell in the water!!" Changbin used his loud voice to his advantage as he signalled the emergency crew with a lifeboat to drop down into the water and try and find Y/N.
"No, no, no, I can't believe this, no..." Chan whimpered, hands clenching onto the railing so tightly that his knuckles had turned white.
"Chan, it's ok, they'll find her," Felix had come up behind him, trying to calm him down even though he himself was feeling the exact same way. All of the boys were. There was anger, there was panic, there was... grief too. Nothing had been confirmed, but the what ifs flying through everyone's minds had killed the thoughts in their brains telling them that there was still a chance.
"I can't see her!!! I can't see her!!!" Chan paced, running his fingers through his hair as he cried. He cried so hard. The members couldn't remember the last time they saw their leader like this. But he was a family man, through and through. He'd do anything to protect those around him, especially those close to him.
"Get rid of these girls!" Han lead over some staff members to the two saesangs who had been stood starstruck the whole time Lee Know cussed them out, only infuriating him more.
"Y/N!" Hyunjin tried.
"Y/Nnie!" Seungmin tried.
"Y/N!" Jeongin tried.
They all tried calling her but there was no luck so far. The boat had been deployed into the river and it had bright lights reflecting off of the water, hoping to catch sight of Y/N.
"I should have protected her! I promised her!" Chan angrily pointed out towards the water, tears continuously falling as his members wrapping him in their arms comfortingly and trying to keep him calm
"Y/N! I see her! To the right! She's there!" Lee Know yelled down at the boat operators, who quickly jumped into action as they grabbed the shivering girl, trying to make sure she was breathing as they transported her onto land, where the boys on the boat were now pulling in too.
Y/N didn't remember much of what happened. Her body slowly became more and more numb, yet it carried her to the surface of the water, where she fortunately was floating on her back. She coughed and spluttered, and it seemed to let her breathe with a bit more improvement. Or maybe it was when she was wrapped in a foil blanket, hearing shouts of her name and feeling the rocking of a boat as she was moved somewhere.
The ground felt flat. But she couldn't mistake the warmth of her brother, even in her haziness.
"I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry this happened to you, my Y/Nnie. I won't let anyone come near you ever again, I'll protect you. Chris is sorry, Y/N," Chan cried as he held his sister tightly against him, wrapping the blanket tighter around her and not caring about the discomfort he felt from sitting down in his tight leather trousers. Tears rolled down his cheeks, the other members gathered around and looking shaken up too, hands over there mouth or a supportive hand on Chan's shoulder.
"Please, can we pause the filming? I need to make sure she's ok," Chan pleaded with the staff, who immediately and wordlessly nodded at him, feeling incredibly upset themselves at what had happened. They had seen the brightness in the girl's eyes, when she asked them questions about how things worked and why they did them.
"We're all here for you, hyung," Changbin kneeled down next to Bang Chan and wrapped an arm around his shoulder at the same time. He knew how tough Chan could be on himself, and this was going to eat him up for weeks, maybe even years.
Y/N coughed, becoming aware of her surroundings and momentarily thrashing around before a gentle voice calmed her in an instant.
"Y/N, I've got you love, I've got you yeah, you're ok, you're alive," Chan tried not to let his voice break as he squeezed her tighter in his arms.
"The, girls, pushed, couldn't breathe," Y/N spluttered, her words coming out jumbled as flashes of the situation that just happened flushed through her mind.
"Sssh, sssh, I know, I know, but you're safe now, yeah?" Chan did his best to reassure her and stop her mind from going into overdrive, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
"Sir, we should really call get her to a hospital, she may have secondary drowning. We can't risk anything."
Within a heartbeat Chan was nodding, medics coming over as she was lifted into the back of an ambulance, and now, instead of Y/N, he was the one who was frozen.
"Hyung, come on, you need to go with her, we'll follow behind," Felix ushered him to stand.
"She... she nearly..." Chan spoke in disbelief, not wanting to finish his sentence as reality hit him hard like a truck.
"But she didn't," Lee Know said firmly, "go with her," he pushed him towards the ambulance.
Chan sat numbly in the ambulance, hand holding his little sister's, the youngest Bahng. What would his parents say? He had failed them, failed Y/N, failed his duty as an older brother. He was so lost in his thoughts he didn't even realise they had arrived at the hospital, and Y/N seemed to be more with it than before as she was being carted out the back of the ambulance.
"No, wait, Chan, I want my brother," Y/N whimpered as he went out of her sight, trying to tell the paramedics that she needed him. The other members had arrived too but she needed only one person with her.
"Hyung, we're here now, she needs you," Jeongin drags his oldest hyung out of the ambulance towards Y/N.
Chan stayed with her until she was discharged. He had no second thoughts to any news articles that would be dispatched, or what the company would say. All that was running through his mind was family, family, family.
"Chris?" Y/N weakly said from her bed. Well, it wasn't her bed technically. It was the one that belonged to the spare room in the dorms. She laid there wondering why this had to happen to her. If it wasn't for those saesangs...
"What is it? You need something to eat? Are you in pain?" Chan fussed over her.
"It's not your fault," Y/N whispered. Her quiet words shattered something in Chan's heart.
"Don't," he shook his head.
"I know that look, Chris, just don't blame yourself. It was those girls. You didn't push me into the river," Y/N spoke quietly, trying to make eye contact with her brother but he couldn't even look her in the eyes.
"Don't talk about it!"
"Look at me!" Y/N shouted, putting all her effort into using her voice and causing her to start coughing.
This made Chan go into high alert as he sat her up and patted her back instantly, like it was habit, just as he would have done when he first held her at the age of ten.
"I need you, Chris, please don't get lost in your own head, I need you here with me," Y/N teared up, and Chan knew that she didn't mean physically being there. This was a whole other matter.
"I'm sorry, it's okay, Y/Nnie, I'm here," Chan hugged her tightly, feeling her relax.
"I can't stop thinking about it," Y/N cried, shoulders shaking.
"This should have never happened to you," Chan wiped her tears gently.
"I promise you, you will never come to any harm again, ok? Me and the boys, we'll help you recover, we'll take care of you. No one will ever hurt you again, Y/Nnie, I swear."

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY ⤵ JAMESON HAWTHORNE X AVERY GRAMBS
ABOUT: 1157 words
STORY: avery gets spoiled on mother's day by jameson and their daughter
WARNINGS: none!!
requested by anon <33
A/N: sorry to whoever requested this its actually embarrassing how long it took me to get to it, but i love jameson and avery as parents i may revisit this idea at some point!!
Tumblr media
Jameson wasn’t an excellent cook. He wasn’t much of a cook, period. His whole life, he’d never really needed to learn to make food anyway, so he just never did.
But on special occasions he wanted to try. And mother’s day was one of the most special occasions ever, in his eyes. A whole day dedicated to Avery. To the woman he loved, the mother of his child, his heiress. In fact, he didn’t think that a day was enough. It should’ve been mother’s week, mother’s month.
But he could work with a day.
It’s not like he didn’t already treat her like every day was her special day.
Every year, Jameson made a tradition out of making Avery breakfast in bed. And this was the first year that their daughter, Hannah, was finally able to assist him. A big girl, three years old now.
“Oh my- sweetie, that is way too many chocolate chips.”
Hannah was standing on the step stool in front of him, trying to add the chocolate chips to her mom’s pancakes. She somehow dumped almost a quarter of the bag into the small portion of batter.
“I know!” She giggled. She tried to add even more, but Jameson took the bag from her. Chocolate makes me happy and I want mommy to be very happy!
“Well, with that much chocolate, I don’t think it’s possible for her to not be happy.” That made her grin even wider.
Then, without warning, Jameson wrapped his arms around her from behind and picked her up. He spun her around, eliciting yet another chorus of giggles from her, and then carefully set her back down on the floor away from the counter.
“Can I trust you to get a plate and fork out?” He asked. Hannah nodded hard, her face set like it was the most important task in the world.
He sighed and turned back to the bowl that probably had more chocolate chips than anything else. It wasn’t… ideal, but it was adorable. Plus, he couldn’t be mad at her for trying. Hannah loved her mom as much as Jameson did, the kid only had good intentions.
Soon, Jameson had managed to mix the batter enough to cook the pancakes, even if it was 60% chocolate. He continued, pouring it into the pan and began to cook the pancakes. He called Hannah back over to flip them, guiding the spatula in her small hands with his own.
Once they were finished, she helped him slide them onto the plate that she’d gotten out earlier. Jameson then set down the spatula and turned to his daughter with a proud smile. He scooper her up into his arms and gave her a hug.
“You did so good, sweetheart,” he said, squeezing her gently.
Hannah’s small arms wrapped around his neck as it transitioned from a hug to him holding her. She tilted her head curiously. “Why do you always hug me and mommy so much?”
He laughed at her adorable question. “That’s because I love you both so much, and I want you to know that.”
And it wasn’t a lie, not even close to one. Jameson Hawthorne loved his girls more than anything.
His girls.
His world.
Hannah’s face lit up in understanding and she hugged him tighter. “I love you too, Daddy!”
Jameson chuckled again, setting her back down and ruffling her hair softly.
“I know you do. Now come on, we need to surprise your mommy.”
~~
The morning sunlight was peeking in through the curtains of their bedroom when the two made it back into the room. Hannah was still giggling in excitement, holding the plate carefully with both hands. Jameson followed, keeping an eye on her as she walked.
But he had to freeze when he saw Avery.
She was laying in bed, just as peacefully as she had been when he’d left. The way her brown hair was splayed out across the pillow, looking perfect as an angel’s. The way her eyelashes rested against her cheeks as she slept. The way she still had a soft smile on her lips as she rested. Everything about her was just so perfect.
Sometimes it was hard for Jameson to comprehend that Avery was real. Not only real, but his. Of all the men in the world, she’d chosen him.
Not everyone was lucky enough to fall in love with a goddess and have her love them back.
“Daddy,” Hannah whisper-yelled, tugging at the leg of his pants. “You’re not moving.”
He shook his head. “Right, right. I’m sorry, Hannah. Let’s go.”
Jameson stepped ahead and up to Avery’s side. Oh so softly, he placed a kiss on her forehead, letting his lips linger a moment before stepping back and watching as her eyes fluttered open.
“Morning, heiress. Happy Mother’s Day.”
Avery sat up slowly, rubbing her eyes. “What is-”
“We made you pancakes, mommy!” Hannah bounced over to where her parents were standing and placed the plate in Avery’s lap. “I helped Daddy. I put in the chocolate.”
Her eyes widened at the surprise. Plus, the energy of a three year old girl was definitely a lot to wake up to. But after a split-second of pause, Avery smiled.
“This looks amazing, Hannah. Thank you.”
Hannah returned the smile, impossible wider this time, and climbed onto the bed next to her. And before her mother could give another response, she wrapped her arms around her in a sideways hug.
“I love you, mommy.”
Avery’s heart melted. “I love you too, princess.”
“Princess?” Jameson asked, sitting on the other side of their daughter, sandwiching her between them. “Do I get to be the king?”
“Yes!” Hannah answered before Avery could. “Daddy is the king and Mommy is the queen and I’m the princess! And then I need a brother so he can be the prince.”
“Oh, you want a brother, huh?” Avery asked, beginning to eat the breakfast they’d worked so hard to make her. Hannah nodded.
“Mhm. A baby brother. Because I’m the best sister in the world.”
“You’re not a sister yet,” she told her.
“Yet?” Jameson grinned. “So you do want to give her a sibling.”
Avery rolled her eyes affectionately. “We can try one day.”
“Oh, we can most certainly try.” He leaned over and gave Avery another peck on the cheek as she ate. Somehow, she was able to soldier through the alarming number of chocolate chips.
Hannah pouted. “Do I get a kiss too, daddy?”
“Yes, princess, yes you do.”
He then leaned down and gave her a kiss on the top of the head.
Hannah then sighed contently, leaning against her mother as she watched her eat. Jameson watched them both with a smile on his face.
The two people he loved most in the world, cuddled up right next to him. He couldn’t think of anything better.
Well, except giving Hannah a brother.
That’d be fun.

i hail a cab with a goat, and make some questionable decisions at a party
next
author’s note: i want to make it, like, really, really, clear that this is not a fic glorifying sa or being a victim. what the reader goes through here is a horrible experience, one that’s happened to me and countless other women (and other people!!). this fic is for anyone who, in the words of rachel sennot in bottoms, has been “gray-area-d,” and felt completely lost afterwards, not knowing how to feel or what to think. this is one example of how you deserved to have been treated, and i’m sorry if this or something similar wasn’t your experience.
content warnings: sexual assault (not graphic and not by luke! r is sort of tied down and has their shorts undone), violence (luke is not happy about this situation), alcohol (r is drunk), talking about it afterwards?, talking about monsters (on a regular pjo level), swearing.
word count: 6.6k. i had a lot to say. so sorry.
this is the first fic i have written in a while, i hope you enjoy it!
seven a.m. in the camp half-blood dining pavilion saw the same faces every morning. you, silena beauregard, clarisse larue, and annabeth chase. your little group of friends spanned six years, at seventeen, fourteen, thirteen, and eleven, and your best friend, who had been off at college all year, made it eight.
you didn’t remember becoming friends with silena and clarisse, although you figured hannah, your best friend and silena’s older half-sister, must have introduced you, and clarisse came along with her.
you had met annabeth and hannah when you were just thirteen, when you had followed a friend to connecticut in the middle of pre-algebra.
“do you understand any of this?” you whispered to grover. he gave you a look as if he had never seen a fraction before last week, and you sighed. your teacher, a kind old woman named ms. lucy, gave you a look. when she gave the class a new problem to work through, she came and knelt by your desk, looking over your shoulder at what you had managed so far. which was a whole lot of nothing, unless you included a sketch of grover that would make picasso proud. you shrunk sheepishly in your chair.
you looked to your right, as if trying to see how bad it really was compared to your model, but he was gone. you turned back to ms. lucy.
“did you see grover leave?”
“hmm?”
“grover. did he go to the bathroom?”
“i assume so, dear. if you convert the decimal—" but grover’s things were gone. you felt terrible. you knew you were a terrible student, and ms. lucy was so kind to you anyways, but it wasn’t like grover to walk out of class like that. he was terrified of authority.
“i have to go,” you mumbled to ms. lucy, throwing your things in your bag and slinging it over your shoulder. “stomachache.”
she looked genuinely concerned. “would you like me to let the nurses know you’re coming?”
“no… no. that’s okay.” and you ran out the door.
it wasn’t too hard to find grover. he was sitting in an empty classroom just a few doors down, but what was weirder was that he was watching a video on the projector. weirder still, he was talking to it. you knew it was rude to eavesdrop. it didn’t stop you from doing it.
“chiron, i can’t just leave. she’s here, and she’s in danger. she needs a protector. anything could come for her at any moment—" was he talking about you?
a deep voice over the projector, whose face you could hardly make out through the low-quality image, answered: “i will inform her mother and she will go home. she will stay there until we can send gleeson to collect her and—"
“why can’t you send gleeson for these kids?”
“he’s too far, it would take him a day at least to reach them. i already told you, this was a request from hermes himself. he wants his son and his friends collected as soon as possible, and—"
who the hell was gleeson? and hermes… who names their kid after a greek god? at least choose one with a better name than hermes. it sounded like a disease. your mother had named your brother after some greek hero, but he didn’t go by it. and at least it was, like, a human name.
“he’s the god of travelers.” you were starting to worry that grover might be on drugs. what on earth had they put in those enchiladas at lunch? “can’t he get him, like, a car? a day could be too long for—"
“grover.” the voice boomed. that shut him up. “you will go. you will escort the son of hermes, the daughter of athena, and the daughter of zeus to camp, and then you may return to the city. this is not up for discussion.” you were really starting to think that the booming voice might have been two booming voices, but the door was closed and the audio was already crackly, so you decided it didn’t really matter.
you heard grover’s voice say, “alright,” defeated and almost mournful, and then the message cut off. your eyes widened as you realized that grover would probably step outside any second, and you would have no excuse as to what you were doing with your ear to the wall. you turned slowly, and winced as your shoe squeaked on the linoleum floor. you started speedwalking. no sense in trying to hide anymore, you were just interested in getting as far away as possible before-
“oh, gods.” grover’s voice echoed between cinder block walls and metal lockers. “how much did you hear?”
you turned, your fingers nervously twisting the straps of your backpack. “i mean. not everything. just. you know.”
“almost everything?”
“yeah.”
“this is not good. this is really not good.” grover wasn’t talking to you anymore. he was pacing the short ways of the corridor, head in his hands, muttering to himself. “my first mission and i’ve already messed it up completely.”
“how could you have messed it up completely? you haven’t even met these kids yet.”
“oh, gods,” grover groaned.
“woah, dude. are you like, hindu or something?”
“what?”
“you said gods. plural. i read this book—"
“okay,” grover interrupted. “you need to go home.”
“okay. that was rude. also, it’s like the middle of the day. my mom’s at work and my stepdad will kill me if i come home early.”
“your stepfather. perfect. just climb in the back window of your room, and when your mom gets home, tell her that chiron says you need to go to camp immediately.”
“what? what the hell are you talking about? who— is that who you were talking to on the phone?”
“what?”
“the phone call. the one you were mad at me for overhearing…”
“okay. first of all, that was not overhearing, that was eavesdropping. second of all, i’m not mad. this just complicates things slightly. third of all—"
“dude, you need to—" grover glared at me, and i shut up.
“third of all,” he repeated, “that wasn’t a phone call. it was an iris message.”
“a what?”
“nevermind. not important. ask about it at camp.”
“why do you keep talking about a camp? i haven’t been to camp since music camp in second grade, and they don’t want me back. i was really, really, bad at the recorder.”
“you played the recorder?” grover looked suddenly very interested. “nevermind. you need to go home.”
“dude. i’m telling you, i. can’t.”
“you have to—"
“take me to connecticut,” you suggested.
“what?”
“isn’t that where you’re running off to?”
“you can’t come to connecticut with me—"
“why not? you seemed pretty adamant on the phone—"
“iris message”
“that you needed to be with ‘her’. based on how insanely you have freaked out, i’m guessing that was me. so take me with you.”
“i know you have no idea what is going on right now—"
“thank you for finally acknowledging that important part of this conversation.”
“- but taking you to connecticut would be an astronomically bad idea. like i-would-get-fired kind of bad idea.”
“you’re twelve. how on earth would you get fired? child labor laws are—"
“i’m nineteen.”
you laughed at that one. “yeah, sure.”
grover rolled his eyes. “look, i really, really, wish i could explain more, but i need to go. and i really, really need you to go home.”
“ok.”
“like really, really need you to listen—" he paused. “okay? great!”
“if it means that much to you, i’ll go home.” grover sighed with relief.
he was eating his words. and a tin can he had picked up off the street. you had followed him out of the building, watched him call a cab, and then, at the last second, jumped in after him, slammed the door, and told the driver to drive before grover could figure out what was going on.
after your initial panic, when you realized you were hurtling up fifth avenue at three-hundred miles per hour with three old ladies behind the wheel, you had straightened yourself out, and made grover explain everything. he had, reluctantly, when he came to terms with the fact that you were in too deep to back out now.
he explained camp, the greek (not hindu) gods, and the ladies in the front (who had one eye between them) were very helpful about filling in the details. so, so many details. he explained that he didn’t know who your parent was, just that you were powerful, and that he was planning on asking your mom before everything went up in flames.
he explained that he was going to connecticut to escort three (now four) demigods to camp half-blood, and that they would likely be tailed by monsters the entire way back. four demigods as powerful as you, and one forbidden child — a child of zeus, poseidon, or hades, as he had mentioned — would attract a lot of attention.
and you did. it took you a month to get to camp after you found thalia, luke, and annabeth, constantly being thrown off course by monsters, over which you got to know them better than any friends you’d had in your life (with the exception of maybe grover and your little brother). your mother was worried sick, but you iris-messaged her (grover finally got through on that one) every so often, letting her know you were okay. she was surprisingly understanding about camp. she apologized that she hadnt been the one to take you herself, and that she had been forced to hide the truth from you for so long. the calls always ended though, when she tried to tell you who your father was. the water would shut off suddenly, the rainbow disappearing along with your mother, so you learned to avoid the topic if you wanted to continue talking.
when thalia died, you were in shock. you sat at the edge of long island sound at camp for three days, staring into the ocean. you didn’t speak, even when you were claimed, as you sat, by your father, poseidon, and shuffled your things from the hermes cabin into cabin three. it was just another loss — you could no longer sleep in the bed next to luke’s. there were no familiar faces in cabin three — no faces at all. you were completely alone.
eventually, an older aphrodite girl came by the cabin. she introduced herself as hannah, and she showed you around camp, forced you to sit with her and her siblings at dinner, dealing with chiron and mr. d’s disgruntlement herself, and at the campfire. she dragged you to the center of the amphitheater, dancing slowly at first, and then faster, until you were laughing and finding luke and annabeth in the crowd and dragging them to dance as well.
you missed hannah so much. she wasn’t that far, a first year at barnard this fall, where you would hopefully be in a couple of years. you weren’t ready for college yet, you thought, so you would take a gap year (though you hadn’t been in school for years) and stay at camp, while chiron would help you convince the admissions committee (using the mist) that you had a perfect gpa, excellent extracurricular activities, and a stellar recommendation letter from a highly admired ancient greek scholar by the name of professor c. brunner.
sitting at breakfast with you was probably miserable, you could admit. you were counting down the days until hannah came back, and your friends were definitely tired of it. but for some reason, this morning silena was practically jumping up and down with something.
“will you stop?” you asked. “you’re shaking the entire table.”
“i can’t, i’m sorry.” she seemed sincere in her apology. “i just— oh, you’ll see.”
you didn’t see, in fact, as someone jumped out from behind you and wrapped their arms around your head, their sweatshirt covering your eyes. “who—" you started, before you got a whiff of lavender-vanilla perfume and jumped up from the table.
hannah. you shrieked, probably waking up half the camp. you spun around and tackled her to the ground, hugging her so tightly you would probably cut off her circulation.
she pushed you off, laughing, and got to her feet. “it’s good to see you too, babe. what’s up with all of you? you never call, i feel like i’ve been completely cut off.” (you had iris-messaged her last week for five hours).
“your sister is still absolutely obsessed with beckendorf,” you said, sitting down.
“hey!” silena protested.
“but of course he has no idea that he likes her.” silena turned pink. “no one here is good enough for annabeth, obviously—"
“i never said that, clarisse doesn’t let any boys near me.” you stick your tongue out at her.
“i don’t know what you’re talking about,” clarisse said, feigning obliviousness. “you hang out with luke all the time.”
“he’s always hanging out with that new kid.” she grumbled. “or—"
“speaking of, clarisse definitely thinks this hermes boy is so cute— you haven’t met him, he got here a few months ago, but his name is chris, and i think they would be so cute together. she’s out of everyone’s league, obviously, but if anyone would be good for her—"
“gods, you would think you’re the aphrodite kid, listening to you.” hannah smiled. she stole a bite of your french toast.
“i’m just excited to see you,” you said, laying your head on her shoulder. silena and clarisse smirked.
“she’s leaving somebody out here,” silena said, smiling.
“i know, it’s weird, she never shuts up about him otherwise,” clarisse added, narrowing her eyes at you teasingly.
“oh, who could you possibly be talking about?” hannah twirled a piece of hair. she hasn’t even been here, but one doesn’t forget their best friend’s crush of four years in a few months.
“i do not,” you protested meekly.
“you knew who we were talking about, though”
“i spend a lot of time with him, that’s all. there would be a gaping hole if i told you about my day and didn’t bring him up.”
“would you stop pretending as if you aren’t in love with each other, please?” annabeth interrupted. “you’re worse than them, at least they can admit it.” she gestured at clarisse and silena.
“i am not in love with him, annabeth.”
“you’re always starting at him.”
“i’m in conversation.”
“with your eyes. that is literally textbook romance.”
“i could so admit if i was into him,” you say, cutting her off. “i admit things like that all the time. i told you i thought jack was cute. you know that kid from demeter?”
“we all know you made that up,” annabeth said, crossing her arms over her chest. silena gave her a light push.
“don’t be so quick to accuse, annie.” only you and silena ever called her that. “i don’t think she made it up. i just don’t think she’s as into him as she is into him.”
“would you drop it, about luke, please?”
“hey, you said his name, not me,” silena smiled. “but sure. i don’t believe that you’re not into him, but i’ll drop it if you can prove that he isn’t into you.”
your heart sank. you weren’t sure why, but you suddenly felt nauseous at the thought. hannah’s hand rested on your knee, as if she could sense it.
“how am i supposed to do that? i can’t read minds.”
“hook up with jack at the campfire.”
“what?”
“flirt with him! you were just talking the other day about how you’re eighteen and you haven’t even had sex yet.” hannah covered annabeth’s ears, to which she shoved her off and glared. “jack’s, like, really hot. i saw you staring the other day.”
“when luke wasn’t around,” annabeth added, one eyebrow raised.
“you want me to have sex with jack?”
“i’m not saying that. just flirt with him. see what happens. we’ll— she gestured between herself, clarisse, annabeth and hannah— see how luke is doing.”
“okay, he isn’t going to be doing anything,” you said. “i don’t see what this accomplishes.” but even as you were saying it, your mind betrayed you. you thought for a second and conjured an image of strong arms holding you, soft lips kissing yours with the bonfire light in the background. maybe you were near the beach.
“we’ll see,” silena smiled.
you didn’t want to go all the way, or anything. you knew that. but… jack was really hot. and sweet. he was always catching little kids falling off of obstacle courses with soft bushes, and growing them flower crowns. it couldn’t hurt to talk to him, see what happened. maybe he’d ask you out, or something. bring you flowers on a date. and you guessed you wouldn’t mind making out with him.
the campfire roared in the middle of the amphitheater. the only people there were the older campers, and some counselors trickling back in from tucking kids into bed. you had helped luke with the hermes cabin, because he had so many kids to take care of, and you had none.
you pulled the covers over katie, a girl a little younger than annabeth, who had gotten to camp a few months ago. she was still unclaimed, but with the way she spent all day in the strawberry fields, and the plants tended to shoot up around her, you were fairly sure where she belonged.
you kissed the top of her head, and stood up, looking around the dark cabin for luke, seeing him kneeling beside a little boy, probably about the same age as katie. the boy sounded like he was crying.
“hey, connor,” luke whispered, rubbing circles on the kid’s back. “it’s okay. it’s okay. i get them too.” you realized that the boy must have been afraid to fall asleep. “travis is right above you, he’ll protect you, okay? nothing bad can happen to you here.”
he looked over at you, before turning back to connor. “and we can play poker tomorrow, you’re getting pretty good.”
“are you leaving?” the boy whispered, choking a bit on his tears.
“just for a little bit, kid. i’ll be back soon, i promise. i’ll be here when you wake up. i’m not going to leave you anytime soon.”
“okay,” the boy mumbled. luke pulled the covers over his shoulders, and ruffled his hair before turning to you.
“let’s go,” he mouthed, gesturing at the door. the two of you crept outside, luke much more stealthily than you, closing the door silently. “god of thieves,” he shrugged, but he didn’t grin as he usually did when he bragged. you didn’t have to ask why, but you played along.
“yeah, yeah, i know,” you said, rolling your eyes. “can we go now?”
“yeah, ‘course,” he said. he slung his arm over your shoulder, pulling you into him as you walked, and you couldn’t help but think of silena’s words as you rested your head on his chest.
arriving back at the campfire, you pulled yourself away from luke, walking over to hannah. she smirked at you, pulling you in for a hug.
“you don’t have to do this, you know,” she said.
“i know,” you replied. “i want to. he’s cute.”
and he was, you thought, as he led you away from the campfire. you’d sat for an hour, letting the flames dance over your skin as you talked with him. he made you laugh, even blush when he grew a flower out of the stone to tuck behind your ear. when he grabbed your hand and pulled you to your feet, you felt dizzy, though that might have been the alcohol.
as you walked further away from the amphitheater, you spun around in the grass, laughing, and he laughed with you. or at you? you couldn’t really tell, and you didn’t really care. you just wanted to kiss him. you didn’t notice that you weren’t heading near the cabins until he stopped in a little cove at the edge of the forest.
“why are we here?” you asked, a little dazed.
“come on,” he said. “you know why.”
and then he was kissing you. it was messy, and made you kind of uncomfortable, but you told yourself to get over it. you couldn’t expect it to live up to the time luke had kissed you, on a dare, when you were thirteen. nothing would ever live up to that, because you couldn’t have him. he hadn’t even cared when you had left him at the party, talking up some girl you couldn’t really see on the other side of the fire.
you blinked, pulling away from jack. you hadn’t realized as you were thinking it, but you had admitted to yourself for the first time that yes: you did want luke. really, really, wanted him. you pushed back on jack lightly.
“i’m sorry, i don’t think i can do this right now,” you mumbled, wiping your mouth on the sleeve of your hoodie — luke’s hoodie, that he had given you that night after he kissed you, when you were shivering outside, staring into space because you couldn’t understand what you were feeling.
“come on, it’s fine,” jack replied, pulling you back into his arms. they weren’t like the arms you were picturing earlier. no, you could admit to yourself new that those had been luke’s. your mind was reeling— you knew that you couldn’t have him, that he would never like you like you liked him, but kissing jack felt wrong. not that you had really been kissing him back.
“i want to go home,” you said, and you weren’t sure where you meant. back to the campfire, to luke and hannah, back to your cabin? maybe even back to your mom on the upper east side, who you missed every day but couldn’t live with during the year for the sake of your little brother, who was too young to know that he, too, was a son of poseidon.
“really? you were flirting with me all night,” jack mumbled into your lips. “stay a little longer.” it was true, you had been flirting with him. you figured you could at least make out with him for a bit. you resigned, letting him lower you onto the grass, and reluctantly letting him run his hands along the hem of your shirt.
hannah was getting worried, and luke could tell. he had forced himself off when you were clearly interested in that demeter guy, who luke knew and was friends with but suddenly hated with all his guts. he had forced himself to be interested in getting the details on silena and beckendorf, which he didn’t really realize he was getting to share with you later, resigning to glancing too often through the flames of the fire at your face, and the way the flames made you look like a goddess. no, he thought. you always looked like a goddess.
but hannah, who had just arrived back at camp for the summer that morning, was biting her lip, and looking around with a bothered expression on her face, and luke had a horrible feeling in the pit of his stomach, that he needed to know you were safe immediately.
he walked over to hannah, probably too quickly, and didn’t waste time asking how she was, or how college had been. “where is she?” he demanded, too forcefully. he would have to apologize to hannah later, but he only had one thing on his mind.“what’s wrong?”
“oh. hey, luke,” she said, still in a sort of trance. he snapped his finger away from her face, shaking his head.
“hannah? where is she?”
she shook her head and widened her eyes. it was clear to luke that you had picked up that habit of staring out at nothing when you were deep in thought, usually not about pleasant things. “she’s with jack,” she said. “they left a little while ago. i just… i don’t know. i should go check that she’s back at her cabin by now.”
“yeah, yeah we should,” luke grumbled, and started taking the steps out of the theater two at a time in an effort to get out. hannah followed— you had told him that his stress could be contagious.
you weren’t in your cabin. you weren’t in the demeter cabin either, and the pair of them woke up a bunch of kids as you barged in, which he was sure mr. d would have a lot to say about in the morning, but he couldn’t bring himself to care.
he ran across the basketball court, hannah close behind.
“i have an idea of where they might be,” hannah said, pointing in the direction of the woods.
“how do you know?”
“because i showed jack that spot when we were fourteen,” she said, grumbling. luke clearly wasn’t the only one who cared about you.
“i thought you were gay?” luke questioned, not slowing down.
“yeah. like i said, fourteen. people explore things, figure themselves out.” gods, she thought, men could be so incredibly stupid.
they ran faster than ever to the edge of the woods, where sure enough, they found you, lying on a mossy stone with jack hovering over you. luke wanted to run to you immediately, but hannah held him back — no easy feat, but she managed.
“hold on, romeo,” she strained. “you can’t just barge in there and—” then she heard it— the unmistakable sound of your voice, and the word stop.
“jack…” you mumbled. you were so drunk. you weren’t sure where you were anymore, and you didn’t really remember walking over here, though you knew you had. “jack, we can do this later, i’m tired—”
“you’re fine, it’s fine,” he said quietly, starting to undo the zipper of your shorts. you reached down to stop him, but he pushed your hand away, and as it hit the stone, moss started growing over it, holding it there.
“jack, stop it,” you said, more forcefully this time. you realized that he didn’t even know what he was doing, and for some reason that scared you more. he wasn’t doing it on purpose, but he wanted it— he wanted you held down, and he didn’t care that you didn’t.
he shushed you, but looked up at a rustling in the trees, and a familiar grunt.
luke broke out of hannah’s arms, but it didn’t really matter, because she had been letting him go anyways. he stormed across the clearing, and while you were still dazed and confused, you couldn’t miss the entirety of jack’s weight being ripped from on top of you, and you thought you saw a fist collide with his face.
hannah, however, rushed to your side. she didn’t particularly want to see luke end up bloody and beaten in the infirmary, but she had bigger fish to fry right now: namely, you. she tore up the moss, no longer strong as jack’s focus was elsewhere, and redid your shorts for you. there were tears on your face as she pulled you to your feet.
there was so much noise. jack was shouting at luke, but you couldn’t make out the words. you could hear the music and the gleeful sounds of counselors from the amphitheater, but it seemed worlds away from you.
as hannah led you out of the woods, much faster than you could really manage, your head began to pound behind your eyes. a splitting pain hit your forehead, and your vision went black and spotty. you stumbled forward, relying entirely on hannah to keep you upright, but one stray tree root took you down. you swam between consciousness and a dark, dark sleep. there was screaming, it was hannah, and then the familiar deep voice of clarisse, barking orders. you thought you heard annabeth’s name, and then two strong sets of arms lifting you up, and carrying you away.
you woke up at the bottom of the sea. no. that wasn’t right. the bottom of the sea was soft, covered in mud and sand. you tried to stretch your body, hitting plastic walls. as your eyes focused, you could make out cartoon fish swimming entirely too close to your face, and you sat up with a start, splashing water all over a corner of the infirmary.
a kiddie pool. they had filled a kiddie pool with salt water, and left you in it overnight to soak, like one of those colorful dinosaur toys that grew in water. and the worst part was that it seemed to have worked. you felt brand new, like you had slept for a hundred years, and at the same time followed a very strict workout regimen, taken a juice cleanse and eaten like a king. you groaned, and slipped back under the water.
you stared at the ceiling, watching wooden beams ripple with the surface of your personal ocean. you wondered if your father ever felt like this is in the pacific, if he could be that big if he wanted to. your camp necklace floated up before your face, crossing a familiar face lurking over you.
you sat up. cara fletcher, hannah’s friend, held out some nectar. you shook your head.
“i’m okay.”
she raised an eyebrow.
“fine,” you sighed, taking the flask and drinking. it did help. you felt like you could take on the minotaur.
“your friends were here all night,” she said. i kicked them out around ten because they were falling asleep on each other, and i didn’t need any more cracked skulls when they fell off the stools.
“more?” you asked. she sighed, looking over her shoulder.
“your boyfriend beat that kid up pretty bad last night,” she said. you didn’t see jack lying on any of the cots, but a head of dark curls lay a few beds down, and the body attached to it did not look to be in great shape.
“he’s not my boyfriend.” you answered quickly, not taking your eyes off of luke. “is he okay?”
cara seemed to make out which he’s you were referring to. “i wasn’t talking about him,” she said. “hannah told me what happened. if you ask me, luke didn’t do nearly enough damage.”
“don’t tell him that,” you said. “and he’s also not my boyfriend,” you added as you processed her words fully.
“not yet, he’s not.” hannah said, strolling in with three bagels in hand.
“i thought i told you to go to bed,” cara scolded, taking her bagel. “you’re going to drop dead one of these days.” hannah smiled, ignoring her as he sat down next to her and put her arm around her shoulders.
you glance between them, ideas churning in your mind, but they were quickly interrupted by the bagel being shoved in your face. you had always thought that the harpies must have spent some time in the city— they made a dam good bagel.
“so.” hannah started. “you are going to tell us everything you’re thinking right now, because i see you looking over at him every two seconds, and don’t think you’re getting out of any of it.”
“i’m eating,” you grumbled. hannah reached to snatch the bagel away, but cara swatted her hand back.
“she’s recovering.” you stuck your tongue out at hannah.
“i don’t care,” hannah said. “spill.”
“look, i don’t even know what happened last night—”
“because you were really, really, drunk,” she interrupted.
“do you want me to speak or not?” you demanded.
“okay. fine. but just so you’re aware, he swooped in and defended you, and beat the shit out of that little asshole, who, just between us, mr. d is fucking fuming with.” trust hannah to get distracted two seconds in. demigod adhd was no joke. “he dragged him to the big house this morning himself, severe concussion and all, and according to lee, chewed him out for about an hour. something about the sanctity of drunkenness and how it is not to be weaponized… even chiron was surprised.” she paused for breath.
“anyways, the point stands— he,” she nodded her head at luke, “was quite literally your knight in shining armor, and if you still don’t think he is absolutely enamored with you—” and you were pretty sure you heard a cot creak— “then i swear on my mother i will call her down and force her to do something about this because i cannot take it any longer.”
“he was just being a good person, hannah,” you muttered. “he’s just like that.”
hannah looked as though she were about to scream, but cara rubbed her hand along her thigh, calming her before she spoke herself.
“there’s something more than that, isn’t there?” she asked softly, and you thought she was staring directly into your soul. “there’s a reason you don’t think he likes you.”
you hesitated, splashing the water around in your pool and making eye contact with a cartoon fish as you worked up the courage to say what it was you knew you had to get off your chest.
“before last night,” you started, your voice cracking as you spoke, “it was just me thinking i wasn’t pretty enough, or good enough for him. that he wouldn’t look at me because there are so many other girls at this camp who are obsessed with him. and i don't think i realized that i liked him either. but now…” a sob came from the back of your throat, and you looked up at hannah, tears streaking your red face.
“why would he want me now?” you sobbed.
“hey. stop that,” hannah started. “what jack did to you wasn’t your fault, and everyone knows that.” she was trying to make you feel better, but the news that your pathetic love life was the talk of camp wasn’t exactly reassuring.
“it was, though,” you said quietly. “i led him on. i never told him no that strongly, and i was flirting with him all night. what reason did he have not to think… not to…” you were hyperventilating now, your words coming out in broken syllables.
“i’m a fucking slut, and now everyone knows it,” you managed. you sank back into the water to slow your breathing, but tears still streamed down your face.
“that’s bullshit,” came a voice from elsewhere in the infirmary. you could have thrown up then and there. you pulled yourself up by the walls of the kiddie pool, looking down the aisle as luke castellan limped towards you. his scarred eye was bruised and bloodshot, and he had a massive scrape running up his left arm, and that was just what you could see. the tears began to fall faster.
“luke…”
you were thirteen years old again, at the top of half-blood hill, holding grover upright. you were watching desperately as he stumbled upward, through the pouring rain, carrying a screaming little girl who was trying with all her might to run back and help her friend. all four of you were sobbing, exhausted and beaten. seeing them all like that was ten times more painful than the gash in your side.
“that’s bullshit,” luke repeated. you got up from the pool and held his face in your hand, inspecting the bruise. you took the rest of the nectar cara had given you, holding it to his lips, but he pushed it away. “you’re not a slut,” he said. suddenly everything about your conversation came rushing back to you, and it hit you that you had just admitted to him that you were in love with him.
you turned your head. hannah and cara were gone, slipped out the back door. you turned back to face luke, face red and tears pouring over your skin.
“that wasn’t your fault. you didn’t owe him anything. he‘s disgusting, and deserves to have his fucking dick cut off.” you laugh, despite everything.
“i think mr. d may have actually taken care of that,” you whispered.
“good.” you looked at him for a while. his eyes were so beautiful, a deep, deep, brown that reminds you of the otters that hung mysteriously around your upper east side apartment when you lived in the city.
“why did you have to fight him?” you asked, reaching up to his face again.
“you were in trouble,” he said.
“luke.” the tears were threatening to fall again. “you could have seriously hurt yourself. i just… why? why not just pull him off of me?” you needed an answer. you needed to know why, why on earth he had put so much of himself in front of you, in front of jack’s fists.
he looked down at you, a pained expression on his face. “you know why,” he whispered.
he looked down at your lips, and you shook your head softly. you looked down at your feet. you were so afraid, afraid that he wouldn’t be interested now that you didn’t want… that. from him. yet— that you considered looking up and letting him kiss you.
he shocked you when he wrapped his arms around you and held you close to him, holding the back of your head into the space between his chest and his shoulder.
“okay,” he whispered. “that’s okay.” then, softer. “i love you.”
you couldn’t say it back. not yet, not now. but you held him tighter, holding on to him like he was the only thing stopping you from falling into tartarus.
“i’ll be here forever,” he spoke into your hair. and you believed him.
the hermes cabin hosted a movie night that night. you were watching the incredibles two, at a request from connor stoll, who was currently involved in an intense argument with annabeth over which installment was better.
“i think i’m going to start calling you that,” luke whispered in your ear. “jack-jack.” you glared at him. “‘cause, you know, your last name’s jackson-”
“yeah, dude, i got the joke,” you said. you rolled your eyes, nuzzling your head into his chest. you could stay like this for a while, you thought, and as you closed your eyes, you felt him press a kiss to your head — something you had told him was okay. you couldn’t wait to bring him home for a weekend. maybe annabeth, too. you couldn’t help but think she would get along great with your brother.
a/n: hello loves! i hope you enjoyed this, please please leave any feedback or anything, and let me know if you would like me to continue this story/write more of luke and the reader's past. i hope people enjoyed the little hints at percy! so excited for this reader and to explore all her relationships.

Sammy is so happy after last nights win for BC- especially since Will got his first hat trick and was named mvp of the game 🥺
no one else i’d rather celebrate with
yes she was! she had the game on her computer in her dorm where both her and hannah were cheering for the boys as they watched them celebrate on the ice.
hughes!sister x will smith au (samy + will blurb)
samy couldn’t be more proud of her boyfriend for tonight & they desperately wished they were in the same place to celebrate
i wrote this at like 1 am and i’m actually pretty happy with the outcome LOL keep sending in requests! i’m slowly working though my inbox, but i wanted to get this one out since it just happened and i didn’t wanna wait too long :)
au masterlist
as soon as the buzzer sounded, samy was jumping out of her chair, screaming in excitement with hannah. the two girls grasped one another’s arms, nearly in tears as all the boys immediately stormed the ice to celebrate one another and the hockey east victory.
“they won! holy shit, they won!” hannah couldn’t stop screaming, probably making their neighbors wonder what the hell was happening.
samy scanned her screen for her boyfriend. she quickly found his number 6 and the big smile on his lips warming her heart seeing him so, so happy. she couldn’t believe he scored four entire goals and his very first hat trick of his career.
despite all of the joy in her, the disappointment settled beside it that she couldn’t be there in person celebrating with him and the boys. this was the worst part about long distance. they had to celebrate over a facetime, hiding the disappointment that they weren’t together in person.
the cameras were panning to different shots of the bc boys celebrating. one picked up the freshman exchanging tight hugs with one another. samy’s heart warmed seeing will and gabe exchange a loving, proud hug with one another and she knew how much both of them dreamed of this moment together.
“i’m so proud of them,” the brunette gushed, her eyes glued to her computer.
“they played so well. i just know they have a national title in their future,” hannah agreed.
another few minutes passed before awards and honors started getting announced once the commotion settled down.
“with four goals and 1 assist in tonight’s championship game, we would like to announce forward, will smith, as the 2024 hockey east tournament mvp!”
more screams were heard across the small dorm. samy couldn’t contain her excitement watching will skate up to the coaches, another huge smile on his lips as he stood up between them for the photo and his plaque.
all of his hard work finally payed off. the brunette knew how hard he worked all season for this moment and seeing it all come together had tears lining the girl’s eyes.
“oh my god, you’re crying,” hannah pulled her roommate into a tight hug.
“sorry, i’m just so proud of him. he deserves this so much,” samy wiped some of her tears away.
oh how badly she wished she was there in person to give will a giant hug as soon as he walked out of the locker room.
all-tournament was announced with will and gabe included. samy loved how big their smiles were getting praised for doing so well in the sport they loved.
the live stream ended leaving the girl to patiently wait for will’s call. she knew it’d probably be awhile with press and celebrating with the team, so she tried busying herself with some schoolwork.
will’s contact flashed across her screen forty minutes later. samy didn’t waste anytime picking it up, smiling wide when she saw her boyfriend’s own smiling face.
“we’re tournament champions!!” the boy exclaimed and showed off his impressive medal.
“i know!! i’m so, so proud of you, will! you deserve it,” the girl gushed, blowing quick kisses into the camera.
“did you see my four goals?” will asked excitedly and samy nodded.
“watched the entire game. you played so well. i can’t believe you got four goals,” she gushed again.
“me neither. it still feels like a dream i haven’t woken up from. look at my plaque!” he held up the circular piece of hardware with the words most valuable player carved across the bottom.
“it’s incredible. where are you gonna hang it up?” samy wondered.
“i’m thinking right above my bed. what do you think?” will flipped the camera around so samy could see. she nodded.
“i like it there. gotta show it off,” she grinned. will flipped the camera back around, propping his phone against something so he could lean back in his desk chair. his curls were damp from his shower still and he still had his suit on.
“i wish you were here. i miss you,” the blonde said with a sad smile.
“i wish i was there too. at least you got the boys to celebrate with,” the brunette chuckled some.
“i’d rather celebrate with you. i came out of the locker room just instinctively thinking you’d be there waiting like always. i forgot you wouldn’t be,” will’s confession had samy’s heart clenching. a blush spread across her cheeks as she tried finding something to cheer him up with.
“at least summer’s only two months away,” the girl offered.
“two months too long. doing all of this without you by my side like always has been hard to adjust to,” will leaned forward closer to his phone. his second admission was gonna make samy cry.
long distance really did suck sometimes. especially during moments like these ones.
“you’re gonna make me cry,” the girl frowned, but smiled nonetheless.
“i’m sorry, i don’t mean to. i miss you a lot. i really can’t wait for summer,” will chuckled, trying to lighten up the mood.
“your haircut looks nice by the way,” samy commented which instantly made will touch his hair. he flushed.
“it does?”
“mhm. your short hair is cute,” the girl nodded.
“gabe begged me to get a mullet, but i just couldn’t do it. i figured i’d cut in shorter to get rid of dead ends,” the boy chuckled earning a giggle from samy.
she dragged her finger across her desk, seeing the time tick closer and closer to 10:30. she had early morning practice tomorrow and she knew will probably had celebrating to do with the boys after their big win.
“i should probably let you go. you probably have a party to get to or something to celebrate the win,” samy said after a moment despite not wanting to hang up the call so soon.
“what? no. you’re hanging up already?” will quickly sat up. his words had her flushing.
“i mean..i don’t wanna keep you from the parties,” she laughed briefly.
“no, no, you’re not. i promise. i told you i’d rather be celebrating with you,” will urged.
“really? i mean there’s not much we can do over the phone. we can celebrate over the summer. belated celebration. maybe there will even be a national title to celebrate too,” the girl grinned.
“let’s not get too ahead of ourselves,” the blonde laughed. “you know i’d rather spend the night on the phone with you than at some party where i’d just be thinking of you the whole time, right?” he searched her eyes through the screen. another blush spread scores the brunette’s cheeks.
“you’re sure?” samy asked just to make sure. she hated keeping will from doing things with his friends because she truly didn’t mind knowing tonight was a big night.
“i’m sure,” will stuck his pinky out.
samy copped his motion and the two pretended to hook their pinkies together.
“plus, i can think of a few ways we can celebrate over the phone,” a look crossed in will’s eyes and samy immediately knew what he was thinking.
her poor blush got even worse, glad that hannah was in the bathroom so she didn’t hear what he said.
“will!”
all that could be heard was a laugh from his end and the two sharing wide smiles.

Bones - Part 13 [Mack x David]
Tumblr media
A/N: *happy sigh* I'm so glad we have made it to this point in the series because I love how these two shift as characters here. How much deeper their relationship gets as they navigate this huge life change they are embarking down... and on a much less serious, sappy note... The breeding kink was activated in this one 🤣
You're welcome or I'm sorry 😆

12 months later ; October
It’s been a year.
A sexy, exciting, whirlwind of a year. Mack feels like the previous one flew by in a blink. She can’t believe they have already touched down in New York for another hockey season. They celebrated their second anniversary. The Rangers made it to the playoffs again, continuing to build towards their ultimate goal despite the disappointment of not getting to the Cup Finals. This summer was better than last. The one year anniversary of Tommy’s death passed. David got quiet like he does. He worked hard out in the field, came in and showered, then took care of his wife as a way of appreciating the things he still has. Mack traveled for work a lot more this summer, but always came back to her farmer husband the moment she could.
They traveled together too, back to Switzerland and then all over western Europe for almost six whole weeks. They ate way too much food, drank a lot of cocktails, and had incredible sex all over the continent.
Life was so good to them.
And yet… in a summer they got to fully embrace their DINK dreams, Mack started to feel like something was missing.
She first felt it at home in Switzerland, watching David with their nieces. Winnie is still in love with David and always needs to be in his arms. She can’t possibly be expected to walk when Uncle David is around. Mack waved her thoughts off because her nieces are so damn cute; it’s impossible to not feel something. But then Mack felt it again when he was playing peek-a-boo with a baby in Norway. When they returned to Iowa, she felt physically uncomfortable watching him hold Trevor’s new baby boy, Declan.
“Look at this tank!” David had yelled to her, holding up the chunky newborn like Simba. “That’s how we grown ‘em around here, babe. Future farmer, for sure!” David was proud as hell of that baby and it wasn’t even his.
Her discomfort expanded when two other women in the friend group announced their pregnancies and grew before Mack’s eyes the rest of the summer. It all boiled over one Saturday at Hy-vee as Mack listened to Hannah, David’s high school sweetheart, gush over her third pregnancy to them.
“Another girl!” Hannah had practically swooned off her swollen ankles. A familiar discomfort had settled into Mack’s chest, and if she didn’t know any better it seemed to have a green haze to it that had nothing to do with David and Hannah or their history. Mack choked so hard on her own breath when she realized she was jealous that Hannah was pregnant with baby number three. Then a fierce, knee knocking want spread through her body like an electric shock that still has her buzzing.
This isn’t right, Mack had grappled internally when she couldn’t stop making faces at the laughing baby in front of them at the check out line.
Mackenzie Hischier does not want babies.
Something was clearly wrong with her.
So when she got back to New York, she scheduled a doctor’s appointment.
Everything came back normal. Mack is perfectly healthy with no concerns.
New York had no relief for Mack’s newfound want, especially not when they spent time with Lucie and Connor. She watched David with Winnie, carting her everywhere, looking like a damn snack most of the time. Mack found herself trailing into Winnie’s room to watch David put her to bed in the doorway- her new favorite night time activity.
Then one night, as David laid Winnie on her bed, Mack imagined it was him with their baby. She could see it clearly, dark brown almost black hair, big ears, her lips, David’s green eyes, all in a child that she brought into this world for them. Mack had paused, frozen in place in the doorway. She snapped her gaze away, then looked back and the child was Winnie again. David caught Mack’s look and gave her a reassuring smile.
“You okay?”
“Yeah.” Mack had breathed out like she was in pain. She ached for that image. Ached for that life. The undeniableness of her shifting mind annihilated the future she always envisioned for them.
Suddenly the statement of not having kids with him seemed unauthentic.
How could she not have babies with this perfect man? He is an incredible partner. Mack knows he would be just as good of a co-parent. He would take care of them- be strong and protective and empathetic like the man who raised her. Raising babies and potentially fucking it up along the way, but being able to share something so permanent with him. Something that would outlast their days on this earth too. A legacy, a purpose bigger than the two of them.
Soon, she found herself craving that experience with him.
Now, every night for the last month, she has dreamt about life with him and their babies. She sees their bare feet getting black from the farm dirt. Red popsicles dripping onto their American flag t-shirts on the Fourth of July. Running around with Winnie and Stella at Rangers games with Carlson on their backs. Learning how to skate, and farm, and read and becoming adorable humans that add so much purpose and glow into their family. Half him, half her, completely theirs.
But David doesn’t want babies and she doubts the rippled effects of his brother’s death has changed that for him.
As they ride through the congested streets of New York, Mack can’t help but feel like this may be selfish of her. This is a change in something so fundamental. Something she had dutifully repeated she did not want after David had proposed to her years ago. Mack worries about approaching the subject with him now. If he still doesn’t want to, Mack would understand. Completely. But she can’t keep this from him. She can’t pretend this ache doesn’t fill her waking thoughts and tired dreams.
That’s not how they do life together.
“Honey?” David calls next to her from the driver’s seat.
“Hm?” Mack asks, snapping her gaze away from the windshield. Behind him, she sees more cars and concrete. The New York street has disappeared and their SUV is tucked into it’s parking spot at their building.
“We are home.”
“Oh.” She nods, unclicking her seatbelt. She runs her hand through her hair then opens her door to step out.
“What are you doing? Is this your first day being married to me? Shut that door.” David scolds her. Mack shuts the door again, then rubs at her face.
She needs to get it together here.
David opens her door and Mack turns to jump out. David blocks her progress, puckering his lips at her.
“Are you okay?”
“Yes.”
“I think I had an entire conversation with myself on the way home.” He rubs his hands up the tops of her thighs, stopping when his thumbs rest on her hips.
“Sorry.” She shakes her head. “I’m in my own world.”
“What’s happening in there?” He asks her, kissing the tip of her nose. Mack’s eyes close as he makes his way across her cheek. He nibbles her ear lobe, then gets her neck a few times as she drops her forehead to his shoulder.
“It’s the Fourth of July and cherry popsicles are dripping everywhere.” He pauses his kisses, then pulls away to look at her.
“Is that a euphemism?” He tilts his head.
“Sure.” She shrugs.
After a chuckle, he grabs her hand, then helps her jump down. Mack wiggles her jeans back up and they walk hand in hand to the elevator.
“Are you going to head to bed right away?” David asks her, jiggling their entwined hands by his thigh.
“No, I’m not tired.”
“Cool. I gotta ice my shoulder.” He informs her. “It’s a little nagging today. You wanna watch something?”
“No, I am going to read.”
“By me?” He pouts.
“Yes.” She chuckles.
“Sweet. I’ll rub your feet, eh?”
Like Mack would ever say no to that.
The two of them head into their place. They go to the closet together, changing out of their game day attire. Mack pulls on clean pajamas and David opts to stay in only his boxer briefs. Mack maneuvers to the bathroom to wash her make up off while David goes to the kitchen to grab his now familiar ice pack.
As she dots her moisturizer around her face, Mack’s mind drifts to what a game night might look like with a baby. Maybe she wouldn’t have been there tonight, opting to stay home for a normal bed time like Lucie did. Maybe David would be rocking their baby to sleep in their room right now instead of icing his shoulder in the living room. Mack slowly screws the top of her moisturizer back on. She looks at herself in the mirror and can see the obvious, fresh yearn. It seems to be re-born brighter and lighter every day.
She needs to tell her husband what she is feeling.
Mack flips the bathroom light off, then works her way to the living room where David sits. He has a West Coast NHL game on, alternating between watching TV and flipping through emails on his phone.
“Ugh. Fuck.” David shakes his head. “We got issues on the farm I gotta deal with tomorrow. I’ll have to call Felix before morning skate.” He tosses his phone. He brings a hand up to scratch at his stubble, clearly annoyed. His eyes slide off the TV to where Mack is standing awkwardly by the hallway. He cocks an eyebrow at her.
“Trying to decide if I want something to drink or not.” She offers. Really, she’s trying to decide if she should save this conversation for another day because suddenly with the farm issues, maybe now isn’t a good time? Cause farm issues usually mean money and so do babies, so… She glowers at her internal dialogue. It is a pathetic excuse considering money is no issue for her or him and definitely not them. Mack forces herself to walk into the kitchen. She grabs a water bottle then goes to join him on the couch.
Mack places her feet into David’s lap as requested. He immediately begins rubbing circles into her skin with his thumb. Mack picks up her Kindle, swiping to unlock it. She begins to read a few sentences, but stops when she realizes she has no idea what the words are actually saying. She moves her gaze over to her husband, drinking in how sexy he looks. The lights and shadows of the room highlight his muscular body and dark tattoos. She drags her gaze across the tattoo he got for their wedding.
“Do you think you’ll fill out your other sleeve?” She asks him. He takes his gaze off the TV to glance at her.
“Probably.” He tilts his arm up, looking over the details of it. “A full arm of you would make sense, eh?” She smiles. “Balance it all out.”
“Gotta save room for your next Stanley Cup tho.” She murmurs, reaching across his body to stroke the skin, both filled and not. She scoots across the leather couch to slide her butt next to his thigh.
“True. I could go onto my back tho.” He pauses, looking his skin over. “I am going to get a humming bird though. Probably on my forearm so I can see it every day.” Mack giggles.
“I would like that.” She drifts her fingers over his forearm, then slowly raises her gaze to his eyes. Her brown orbs hold his green ones. She swallows hard, taking in a shaky breath. “Um, maybe I could share that arm with someone else.”
“It would have to be someone pretty special.”
“Yeah. For sure… I was thinking maybe, like, our baby?”
David’s eyebrows shoot up. His fingers still. His shoulders rise and fall as he breathes but that is the only thing that moves temporarily. Then his green eyes search hers earnestly.
“Our baby?” He eventually repeats back to her. Mack swallows nervously.
“What if I’ve changed my mind?” She whispers, unsure tone to her words.
“We should probably talk about it then.” His voice is low and tight, eyes a piercing green that cling to her face.
“Okay. I-I want babies with you.”
David doesn’t move. She is pretty sure neither of them are breathing now. When he doesn’t answer, Mack starts to fill the silence.
"If you don't, that's okay. But I just, I really want to have babies with you. I keep dreaming about it.” She swallows hard as David closes his eyes, hiding the bright green from her. “Day and night. Its like a sickness that’s come over me demanding I have your baby. But I want it. Like I actually want to be a mom to your babies. And I'll figure out how to get over that if you don't want to-“ She grabs his forearm again in assurance.
"Mack. Honey.” His voice is tight as he cuts off her rambling. ”You better not be joking with me right now."
"Why would I joke about this?"
"Oh my god." He moans. He rubs a hand over his face then rips the ice pack off his shoulder. He whips it onto the coffee table and climbs on top of her, forcing her back to hit the cool, leather cushions. Her hair splays out behind her head as he cups her cheek gently.
"Mackenzie Hischier, I would die a happy man if you had my baby."
"Really?" Mack practically whimpers. Her eyes search his face hurriedly, desperately, needing to see the truth.
"Fuck yes. You want to start now?” He cups her cheeks with both hands, kissing her lips quickly.
"I still have my IUD.” She says.
"I can call Doc?” He jerks a thumb over his shoulder.
"Oh god." She laughs. He takes the opportunity to kiss along her neck, up to her ear lobe. Then he nuzzles his nose into her hair. Mack presses her face into the side of his head, gasping for breath to try and calm down.
“Really? Honey, I never thought… This is big.”
“I just want to do this with you. No need. I think I need to do this with you.”
“Okay.” His shocked but grateful smile makes tears form in Mack’s eyes.
“If you want to talk about this more before we make any final decisions we can.”
“Mack, I trust you. I trust your judgement. If you say this is what you want, I’m all in.”
Something is missing here- his desire for this too. Mack needs to know he isn’t pacifying her right now.
“You want this too though? It’s not just me?”
“Of course, I want this. Of course, I want to bring life into this world with you.” He leans forward to kiss her. “Something about you and me is special, honey. Bringing that together to make a baby. Gives me chills.” Mack sees the goosebumps broken out on his arms. She folds her lip into her mouth, then runs her fingers along his bumps.
“That’s what I think too. But… I have to ask. You said you never saw yourself having kids?”
“I didn’t.” David clears his throat. “Until I met you.”
“What?”
“I mean, it was hard not to with all the time we spent with Stell and Win. You’re so good with Stell. The perfect balance of sweet, caring, and stern. She listens to you, and she doesn’t listen to many people. You have this way about you, honey. You’ve taken care of me over the years. I liked the idea of sharing a kid with you. Knew you would love our baby so completely, and the worries I had about my short comings, or my family history, went away. Cause it would be us doing that together and there isn’t anything this team here can’t do. But we got engaged and you reiterated your choice; I wasn’t going to fight that. Who would I be to do that when you’re the one who has to be pregnant? I was completely okay with us never doing that. We could fill our lives loving each other and that would be plenty.”
“I was so worried to tell you this. Like, I was going to be forcing you into wanting this, but you wanted it first.”
“That’s kinda how we roll.” He smiles. Mack laughs, then slowly her smile falls off her face, a more pensive and appreciative look on it now.
“So… I guess I’ll make an appointment.” Mack’s eyes widen as she bursts into excited giggles.
“You know…” David trails off. He hooks a finger in the collar of her t-shirt moving it to the side. His lips kiss along there as he continues. “We never thought we would be making babies together. We probably need to practice some before we really try…”
“Mhm.” Mack moans as David lifts her hips up to meet his, then grinds his erection into the apex of her thighs.
“We’re probably bad at it. We should practice a lot.” Mack grins into his lips when they fall on hers again. Her stomach flips at his all consuming kiss, claiming her mouth in a different way than he has before.
This is gonna be hot as fuck.
Mack can barely wait.
- - - & - - -
The day Mack and David decide to make a baby is a Thursday. David has a night off. Mack is feeling relaxed and ready after her IUD removal a few weeks prior. They know it might not work tonight, but not having sex for weeks has them both wound tight. They need a release.
Mack got home first from her day. She went right to the bathroom to take an everything shower. She shaved, exfoliated, scrubbed, then lathered herself up in the lotion David likes best. She did her every day make up, blow dried her hair, then put on comfortable clothing. After, she crawled onto the couch, ignoring the temptation to Google ‘baby making sex positions’.
They don’t need that. They’re gonna wing it.
When David comes home from practice, he smiles at her sitting on the couch watching TV. Mack clicks it off as he sets his stuff down, then kicks his shoes off.
“Any big plans tonight?” He asks her.
“Yeah, you’re gonna fill me up.”
“Fucccck yes I am.” He nods as he says it. “When do you wanna start?” He asks, heading into the kitchen to wash his hands. Mack takes in the tightening and flexing of his back muscles under his white Rangers shirt.
“I’m not doing anything right now…” She trails off, shrugging slightly. He soaks her in from across the room as he dries his hands.
“You freaking out at all?”
“I’m kinda nervous.” Mack admits, smiling at him. “But also really excited.” She can feel bubbles of anticipation building below the surface but she shoves them down with a big inhale.
“Me too, honey.” David responds as he comes to stand in front of her. He brushes her hair behind her ear, then cups her cheek. His lips brush hers, making Mack’s eyes close. Her hands go around his back, gripping his muscles as he works his mouth over hers. Slowly, he pulls back. “I want to make love, okay? Nothing rough or hard. I want it to be all about you.”
Mack nods. That is exactly what she wants too. David grabs her hand and leads her down to their bedroom. Mack’s heart starts to pound loudly in her ears. David brings her to the bed, then turns her hips, pressing her down to sit.
“I love you.” He says from above her. His fingers stroke her throat, thumb on her chin to keep her face looking up at him.
“I love you.” Mack repeats, wrapping her arms around his shoulders as he leans down to kiss her.
Sparks fly between them. The way his lips move over hers rushes the nerves away from Mack, welcoming in a river of desire. Her fingers thread through his hair, pulling him in closer. She gasps for breath around his lips, then dives back into his mouth. Gently, David works Mack onto her back. His hands go to her sides, working her shirt up and over her body. Her bare, pink nipples await him there. His lips wrap around one, stroking it to life with his mouth. Mack squeezes her thighs together at the rush of wetness that pools in her panties.
Sensing her need, David runs a hand back down her stomach, dipping into her pants and panties. He strokes her clit with smooth finger tips, then glides two fingers further down to tease her entrance. He sucks her other nipple into his mouth, then works his thumb and two fingers into a teasing frenzy.
Mack gasps then sighs out a sexy moan. She nibbles on her bottom lip, opening her eyes to watch David play with her. The view is gorgeous and he makes it better by kissing his way down from her chest. He tugs her bottoms off, then tosses them to the side. His arms hook under her thighs then he lifts her slightly up, bringing her pussy to his mouth. Their eyes stay on each other as his lips part. His tongue laps at her clit teasingly, then down her slit. He places an open mouthed kiss there, a string of saliva connecting them even as he pulls away.
Two fingers come to spread her swollen lips open, then he takes a direct path to her clit. Mack’s toes curl. Her eyes squeeze and she throws her head back as he goes in for another stroke. He teases her this way until she pulses beneath his mouth. Then he drives his tongue down to her entrance, creating and building a new, more intense friction. He moves his face to push two fingers into her core, circling it then gliding in. He curls them up at the same time he sucks her clit into his mouth. Mack’s eyes roll back into her head as she begins to pant. Softly at first, then harder, then longer, then louder, then she’s gasping and coming all over his face.
Mack’s abdomen rolls and seizes with her intense orgasm. David guides her through it, keeping his tempo perfect for her, like he always does. Mack melts into the mattress beneath her body. Her head sways lazily to the side, shoulders rising and falling heavily. She hears David move, watching as he stands back up to his full height. Their eyes meet. Emotion swells in Mack’s chest as he slides his pants to the ground. Then he bunches his shirt into a fist, tugging it off him. The fabric falls away from his body and Mack could weep at the image of her fully naked husband. His muscles scrunch and relax as he holds a hand out for her.
“Want you on top.” He requests. Mack slides her hand in his, then lets him pull her to stand. They switch positions- David sitting on the bed and Mack standing. He holds her steady with his hands on her rib cage, then he kisses all over her abdomen. Shivers of pleasure and expectation scorch across Mack’s skin. She shakes in his arms for a few moments. He rubs his thumbs across her ribs, then pulls her forward until she lifts her legs one at a time to straddle him.
She grips his shaft in her hand, ready to sink down when David covers her hand for a moment, knuckles pressing into her folds.
“You’re sure, honey? Completely sure?” David looks into her eyes, searching her face. Mack doesn’t hesitate.
“Yes. Put a baby in me, David.” Mack responds. He exhales with ecstasy then moves her hand away for him to take control.
Mack drops her forehead to his. David strokes his head through her folds before finally plunging in. They savor that moment of connection with a long kiss, tongues lightly connecting. Mack glides her hips forward and back, encouraging her wet heat to mold around him.
“How good are you going to look with my baby in you?” He drawls, watching her rise up and down on his cock with attentive eyes.
“Oh yeah, that’s gonna work for me today.” She chuckles, holding her heavy breasts in her hands.
“So good.” He murmurs back to her. “You’re gonna be such a good mama.” Mack whimpers. Damn, she is into this. “Can’t wait to see these fill up even more.” He moves her hands away to wrap his around her breasts. His tongue plays with her nipple, then he sucks it into his mouth, rolling it and slowly releasing it back into place with a quiet pop.
His hands then move to her waist, thumbs pressing into her stomach while his tongue continues his assault. His gaze meets hers and he softens. Mack bites her lip, then stops bouncing.
“Oh..” She closes her eyes. “When you look at me like that…” She shakes her head. It makes her emotional to see that much love and adoration being focused on her.
“Sorry. I’ll make it sexy again.” He assures her.
“No, I love it. It’s so you. So us. That’s how I want to make our baby.” David presses his cheeks into her breasts and kisses them each once more. He pulls back, then wraps his hands under her thighs. They move together in sync, chests pressed together, lips touching with every press Mack has down on his cock.
“Can’t stop thinking about your belly. What it’s going to be like to know you’re carrying a piece of me for this long. Bringing life into this world for us. Connecting us forever. Fuck.” He groans. David starts losing it first. He breathes heavily, cheeks turning slightly pink at the exertion of holding back. Mack bites her lip, then bounces harder on him.  Mack feels his cock spasm inside of her, but he holds back still, not letting himself come until she does again.
“Come on, honey.” He begs her. His fingers find her clit. He gently rubs it. “Need your help to put our baby in you.”
“Oh. That… mhm.” She moans. “I want you to fill me up. Please. Be the only man to give me a baby.”  Mack leans into his possessiveness. David is strangled by a groan as he pushes back just a little bit longer.
“You gonna fucking take it all? Hmmm? Be a good girl and give me a baby?” He hisses through clenched teeth then he leans forward to tease a stiff pink peak with his mustache.
His words make her come. He sucks her nipple into his mouth, making her shudder and grip the back of his neck tightly. She screws her eyes shut, feeling herself release creamy spits onto his cock.
David grinds Mack into his thrusts a few more times. Then his hand on her lower back forces her all the way down until her clit smears against his abdomen. She feels him spasm inside of her, painting her cervix. A warm heat spreads out from her core, setting her on fire in the best way. Goosebumps dance down her limbs; her stomach drops with excitement and pleasure. He’s come inside of her plenty of times, but never quite like this. Mack tilts her head back to the ceiling, moaning in ecstasy as he rolls her clit into him, making her walls spasm.
“Pull it all deep, honey.” He demands. Mack’s head falls back forward to take in his gaze. It’s primal and greedy, filling with an ownership of her Mack has never seen on his face before. She rolls her bottom lip into her mouth and whimpers as he rolls her hips again. Her walls collapse, tugging more of his cum deeper. David stands with himself still inside of her, then he turns, laying her on her back. Slowly, he drags his cock out of her. Mack sighs at the emptiness when he is gone.
David leans over her, kissing her deeply, yearning. Mack can feel it in his lips how much he loves her and wants to raise babies with her. Or maybe she is recognizing that same need in herself.
David grabs her a few pillows, putting them under her knees.
“I don’t know if this works, but I read about it.” He tells her. Mack chuckles, finding it endearing that he researched this before they started while she resisted the urge this morning.
“I’ll try it.” She shrugs, then settles in deeper to the position.
“Can I get you anything?”
“No, just stay with me.” She reaches for his hand. David laces their fingers together, then looks over the position she is in.
“Next round, you can lay right there. I’m gonna put a pillow under your hips too.” He thinks aloud. “No need for you to move. I can do it all.” Mack starts to giggle. Once they begin, she can’t stop them. She is full on laughing until she is crying, naked on her back, with her knees up in the air and her husband’s hand in hers.
“Why is this so funny?” She wheezes. “Like look at me right now!?” David’s laughter joins hers. When it dies down, he contemplates seriously.
“Because we are happy. And we want this.” He murmurs, sliding a hand across her lower abdomen. He cups her there. Mack puts her hand over his and nods.
“I really want this with you.”
“Only you.” He agrees.
Mack hopes she can give this to them sooner rather than later.
- - - & - - -
It’s a Thursday in the middle of the day, weeks later, when Mack decides to take a pregnancy test. She is close to a week late, unheard of for her. Then this morning, her breasts felt heavy when she rolled out of bed, still utterly exhausted despite sleeping for almost 10 hours. David had gone off to practice none the wiser. Mack wants to be sure. And she wants this moment alone. Maybe that is self-serving of her, but it’s her body. She wants to be the first to know it’s carrying their child.
Mack clips the pink cap back into place, then sets the stick down on the counter in front of her. She inhales heavily, setting a timer even though it seems pointless. She can see the oval begging to fill. The test line comes in and she looks away. She walks over to the closed door, biting on her thumb nail as the seconds pass like hours.
It will be okay if it’s negative. They will keep trying. Honestly, trying has been really fun. David takes amazing care of her and there has been something incredibly addicting about such a primal purpose. She’s had the best orgasms of her life during the last few weeks. It will be hard to replicate when they aren’t doing this for a baby.
Mack leans her head back into the door, looking up at the ceiling, thinking about how surreal this moment is. She never thought she would be here. Okay, maybe she could see her self being here, but not hoping to see two pink lines in that oval. Her brown eyes drift to the test, but she is too far away to see it. Mack’s mind wanders back to bare feet and dripping popsicles. Maybe grape ones? She hated cherry as a kid. Or those American flag popsicles. Bomb-pops, she thinks that’s what they’re call.
When her phone illuminates, Mack lets the sound ring through the room. It bounces off the tile with an exhilarating thrill that has her throat thickening with nerves. She inhales heavily, then pushes off from the wood, socked feet quiet across the bathroom. She focuses on her phone screen, turning it off. Then she picks up the test. She holds it in front of her, but looks at herself in the mirror.
“No matter what, it’s okay.” She reminds herself.
Then she dares to look.
Two pink lines greet her. The second line is obvious enough that there is no question.
She is pregnant.
A heavy inhale brings her shoulders to her ears. Mack immediately becomes overcome with emotion. Her face collapses into her hands as she sobs quietly.
“Oh my god.” She murmurs. “Oh my god.” Part of Mack was convinced before this moment that maybe the universe would punish her for changing her mind. Like she was unworthy of this gift after saying for so long that she didn’t want it. Not when people like Savannah have always craved to hold a baby in her arms. Mack’s hands shake as she brings the test back in front of her face. No, that is not the case for her.
Mack stays sitting on the bathroom floor for awhile. Part of it is spent staring at the test, the other part is dreaming about everything that is to come. She types in a tentative date to see when she may be due. It looks likely the middle to end of July. A summer baby in Iowa. She giggles. How adorable will it be to have a baby at the same hospital David was born at? He will love that.
Mack’s mind begins to churn on a way to tell him. She wants it to be fun and creative, more than handing him the test and calling it good. Of course she could go buy a Rangers onesie, but she doesn’t. Instead, she grabs her keys and heads down to a baby shop she’s frequented with her sister for Rangers’ baby showers. Inside, she is able to find what she remembers seeing, a onesie that says: Farmer On The Way! with a green tractor on the belly. Mack giggles, then dips into a craft store to grab a sign she can manipulate with magnetic letters.
David needs to stay at the rink later than normal for team obligations. By the time he is home, Mack is on pins and needles waiting for him in the living room. There is no way she couldn’t tell him about this today. She sits on the couch, legs folded with her hands clasped in her lap. He opens the door with a folder and a paper bag in his hand. He sees her on the couch immediately, smiling at her.
“What are you doing in here?” He asks, noting she doesn’t seem to be doing much of anything. The TV is off. There is no book in her hand and she stares at the door expectantly.
“Waiting for you.” She responds happily.
“Oooh, lucky me.” He drops his stuff on the entry way table, then comes over to kiss her. “Mmm you smell good, babe.”
“It’s my lotion.”
“I like it. Are you done with work for the day?”
“Yeah.” She had told Sonja she wasn’t feeling well and needed the afternoon off.
“Do you want to do anything?” He asks almost regretfully.
“No.” She shakes her head, looking around him to the kitchen counter where he has yet to notice the sign and onesie.
“Good, I wanna go take a long ass nap.” He reaches for her hand.
“Okay, but can you get me some water?” She blurts out. Of course her sweet man doesn’t balk at that.
“Yeah, you want the blue bottle or… the…” He trails off as he gets closer to the counter. “The crops aren’t the only thing growing this summer…” He reads the sign aloud, then grabs the test off the counter. He stares at it, then snaps his gaze to her. “No…. Are you serious? You’re pregnant?” He turns fully to her with the test in his hand. She nods her head. “Fuck yes!” He yells. “Fuck yes, baby!” He runs back across the room and lifts her into his arms. He twirls them around, then brings her down so she can wrap her limbs around his body.
“We are having a baby.” She whispers to him, resting their foreheads together. “I love you.” She smooshes his cheeks in her hands earnestly.
“I love you. I love you. I LOVE YOU! I’m so excited, honey.”
“Me too! I can’t believe it happened so fast.”
“You did a good job pulling me deep.” He smirks. “Holy shit, we are having a kid… There’s a baby in there.” He pats her stomach lovingly.
“Oh my god, I’m pregnant.” She says to him, eyes widening as the reality actually hits her. “I have to give birth…” She trails off, looking concerned. “Fuck.”
“Oh… Are we gonna have a little moment here?”
“Yeah. Oh shit.”
“Okay.” David puts her back on her feet, keeping ahold of her hips. Mack starts waving her hand at her face, lifting her hair up because she is suddenly extremely hot.
“I’m having a hot flash. Or a panic attack. There is other ways the baby can come out right?”
“Ah… I… no.” He finally settles on. He gives a little chuckle. “We are far away from that right now, though.” He reminds her. His hands collect hers by her thighs. “One day at at time.” He nods. Suddenly, Mack starts to cry.
“Oh my god, you’re going to be the best dad!” She exclaims. “I’m so lucky I get to have your baby. You’re perfect. You love me. You already love this little bean too.”
“Bean?” David chuckles.
“Yeah, it’s tiny right now. Like a bean.” She sniffs, holding up two tightly compressed finger tips.
“Okay, then yeah I really, really love our little bean.” He murmurs. David moves his head down to her belly button. He kisses right under it and like usual, his lips soothe her. Her fingers thread through his hair as she sighs away the rest of her worries for now. “Wait.. it’s not a kidney bean right? Those are gross.” He mumbles against her warm skin.
“No, it’s a pinto bean.” She laughs, covering her mouth with her hand. Her shoulders start to shake too and soon they’re both laughing, holding each other close while they do. Mack covers her belly button when she pulls away. “Why do I feel like a teen mom?”
“We wanted this.” He reminds her, running an index finger down her nose comfortingly. “We are two old married people, ready for this next step.”
“You’re old. I’m not.” Mack scoffs. David snorts, then tilts his head back to the ceiling. He covers his face with his hands and starts shaking from silent laughter.
“You can never resist that, huh?”
“Nope.” She chuckles. “Okay, so what I’m supposed to go about my day now? Like… nothing is different? Wait, what can I eat?” She asks him.
“I don’t know. How about we go find that out together? Maybe make an appointment for you?” Mack suddenly gasps, clasping her hands over her mouth.
“I don’t want to go alone!” She squeaks. David is heading out of town for two games tomorrow after practice. There isn’t time to get to the doctor before then.
“You don’t have to. I’m gone for barely three days. The games are back to back. Let’s try to get an appointment for that next day.” He rubs at her shoulders. “You don’t have to do any of this alone. Me and you.” He reminds her. Mack nods and sniffs. Somehow she started crying again and didn’t notice. She wipes her nose with the back of her hand then raises her gaze to her husband.
“Do you regret getting me pregnant yet? Like what is all this…” She trials off at herself.
“This is our pregnancy journey, baby. And I’m right here. Step for step with ya.” He pulls her into his arms again, rocking them gently back and forth. One of his hands slides over to cup her stomach. Mack closes her eyes, feeling the weight of what’s happening between them right now.
She may be emotional and admittedly a little scared.
But pregnant, Mackenzie Hischier has never been happier in her entire life.

THURSDAY HERO: Hannah Senesh
Hannah Senesh was a young Jewish poet from Budapest who escaped Hungary in 1939 but parachuted back into Europe five years later as an Allied spy on a doomed mission to save Jewish lives.
Hannah was born in Budapest in 1921 to a secular Jewish family of writers and intellectuals. Her father Bela Senesh, a noted playwright, died when she was only six years old, and she was raised by her devoted mother Katherine. As soon as she could read, Hannah became a writer. She started keeping a diary at 13, which she continued for rest of her life.
Although Hannah was assimilated, that didn’t protect her family against rising antisemitism in Hungary. She joined Maccabea, a Zionist youth group, and for the first time in her life, cared about being Jewish and was proud of her identity. At age 18, after graduating from high school, she made aliyah – moved to the Land of Israel, then the British Mandate of Palestine. She settled on Kibbutz Sdot Yam in 1939.
Life at the kibbutz was difficult and Hannah wrote vividly in her diary about working long hours in the kitchen and laundry. She continued her creative writing, penning poems as well as a lively play about the kibbutz community. Hannah hadn’t forgotten the world she left behind in Hungary, and was determined to help her Jewish brethren escape from Europe, which was quickly becoming a deathtrap for Jews. In 1941 she joined the Haganah, the paramilitary group that later became the Israel Defense Forces. Two years later, she joined the British Woman’s Auxiliary Air Force as an Aircraftwoman 2nd Class.
Her goal was to return to Europe to fight the Nazis and save her fellow Jews. She was recruited into the Special Operations Executive (SOE), a secret British spy organization, and underwent intensive military training in Egypt. Her performance was so exceptional that she became one of 33 people selected for the high-stakes mission. In March 1944, she parachuted into Yugoslavia, where she joined the Partisans, a highly effective resistance group led by Josip Tito, later to be the long-serving prime minister of the country. At this time she wrote the poem, “Blessed is the March.”
Germany invaded Hungary in March, 1944, and immediately started deporting and murdering Jews with shocking speed. Fearlessly, Hannah snuck into Hungary on June 7, ready to do whatever it took to save her Jewish brothers and sisters. Tragically, she was caught soon after by Hungarian police, working with the Nazis. They found her British military transmitter, used to communicate with the SOE, and promptly arrested her and threw her in prison. Immediately upon arriving at the prison, she was stripped naked and tied to a chair for three days, during which she was whipped and beaten with a club. She lost several teeth as they tried to force her to reveal the code for her transmitter so they could catch other resistance workers and parachutists.
Desperate for Hannah to reveal information about resistance activities, they tracked down her mother, hiding in Budapest, and arrested her, hoping that Hannah would talk to protect her mother. Katherine, who had no idea Hannah was even in Hungary, was shocked to see her daughter for the first time in five years – missing teeth, covered in bruises, and malnourished. Together the two Senesh women agreed they wouldn’t help their captors in any way. Katherine was eventually released from prison and sent on the infamous Budapest “Death March,” but managed to escape. She hid in Budapest until it was liberated by the Soviets in January 1945.
During several months of imprisonment, Hannah was beaten and tortured daily, but she amazingly refused to share any information about Resistance activities. From her squalid cell, she used a mirror to flash signals out the window to other prisoners. She drew a Jewish star in the dust outside her window so those outside could see her Jewish pride.
She was put on trial in Budapest for treason in October 1944. She used her moment in the spotlight to eloquently denounce Nazism, and Hungarian complicity in genocide against the Jews. She refused to apologize for her actions or request mercy from the court.
Hannah was sentenced to death. On the last day of her life, she wrote letters to her mother and her comrades in the resistance. As she was taken to face the firing squad in a snow-covered courtyard, she refused to wear a blindfold, forcing her killers to look her in the eye as they shot her. Hannah was only 23 years old. Somebody at the prison, whose identity remains a mystery, made sure Hannah was laid to rest in the Jewish cemetery in Budapest. Her body was brought to Israel in 1950 and buried on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. In 1993, Hungary officially exonerated Hannah Senesh.
After Hannah’s death, poems were found in her prison cell, many of which have become songs written and performed by prominent Jewish singers such as Ofra Haza and Regina Spektor. Her diary and other writings were published in Israel – in fifteen editions so far. Hannah’s tragic, inspiring story has been the subject of multiple books and plays. A kibbutz and several streets are named after her, and every Israeli schoolchild knows of this legendary Jewish martyr.
One of Hannah’s most famous poems is known as Eli, Eli (“My God, My God.”). It was put to music by composer David Zahavi. The poem reads in part,
My God, My God,
I pray that these things never end,
The sand and the sea,
The rustle of the waters,
Lightning of the Heavens,
The prayer of Man.
For risking her life to save her fellow Hungarian Jews, and inspiring generations of Israelis, we honor Hannah Senesh as this week’s Thursday Hero

My Biggest Regret
Part two:
**
Fate was on her and Chan's side. She knew it. She felt it and she could taste it. Even if It had been 3 years…
3 years.
The calls were now non existent and the texts were now disappearing. She knew the only way to know if he was okay was through social media so she kept checking all her socials to watch over him.
She had accepted the fact that he was now a busy idol. He was making hits and creating a big name for himself and his group. He was now basically non existent in her life.
Don’t get it wrong, he would try to call her here and there but it was so awkward that she just stopped picking up once and for all. He also saw that they had nothing in common at all so he also stopped calling.
They had grown apart. It was painful but that was reality.
She still visited his parents and his sister once in a while just to check in but it would end up with a lecture about how they are very upset with Chan for not keeping in contact with her but they would eventually get over it by the end of the evening after some tea and cookies.
Hannah on the other hand was so upset and angry at her brother but Y/n couldn't blame her. He had missed every important mile stone in her life (not intentionally Ofcourse) but still how "dare" he be so busy and lie.
Y/n knew she had to be her rock though. She knew she had to step in and take care of her.
"My love, you'll get wrinkles on your forehead if you continue to be upset," Y/n tells the young girl as she slowly helps apply Hannah’s makeup for prom. They were sat in her room on vanity.
"I don't get it! How are you so okay with what he has done?" The younger one whines like usual. To be honest Y/n was a mess inside. She was constantly sad and even though it had been years she still felt really sad and upset. She had lost her bestfriend and she didn't know if she would even be around when he came back.
"Hannah, you should be proud of him and not upset. Look at how much he has accomplished. He has grown so much and made a big difference in the industry. We should just be patient with him and we shall all be back together again." Y/n smiles as she finishes the makeup look. "There you go, so beautiful!" She claps and admires the work she had created.
“Let me see! Let me see!” She squeals and turns. Hannah gasps when she looks into the mirror shocked.
"I love it so much Y/n! Thank you!" She squeals again and held out her phone to take a few selfies.
Y/n loved seeing her happy. She was like her little sister and she since she didn't have siblings of her own she put her everything into Hannah.
"Here let me take a picture! Turn around and say Cheese!" Y/n takes a short video of her beautiful dress and posts it on her instagram. She had a few followers not as many as a normal teenager would but she was satisfied with her small account. It consisted of people she loved only.
"Oh I think my dates here!" Hannah smiles and grabs her purse then Y/n's hand. They all walk down stairs where Chan's father had the camera out.
"Oh my girl! You look beautiful!" Her mum coos and stared at the both of them. Hannah and her date took a few pictures and finally left, Ofcourse after Y/n gave them a long lecture about protection and drinking which left Hannah completely embarrassed.
"Thank you for helping her Y/n, you really have her wrapped around your finger," Chan's mum says while pouring some water for Y/n in a cup.
They were sat on the dining table having some dinner since his dad had insisted.
"Oh it's no worries! I love her like my own little sister," she gives them a genuine smile before grabbing her chopsticks and starting on the meal.
"How is medications going? What has the doctor said?" Chan's dad asks turning the atmosphere all so serious. He always had a soft spot for Y/n ever since his bestfriend (Y/N's mum) pushed her out, he had admired her, loved her and cared for her like his own. He was the only father figure in her life.
"It's okay, just trying to push through everyday. The doctor says that the tumor has decreased but he isn’t sure by how much or if it'll stay like that," Y/n shrugs and continued to eat her ramen. This topic wasn't new for her. She was used to the question. She was used to the usual nagging from both Chan's parents and her mum reminding her to take her medication or to go for her appointments.
She was now used to it all.
"That's good sweetheart. Keep taking care of yourself please. I don’t want you to end up in the hospital again.” He tells her softly almost as if he was scared to bruise her with his words.
“I will uncle-“
“Speaking of that,” Chan’s mum interrupted the small conversation. He groans knowing exactly where the conversation was going and he automatically felt bad for Y/n because they had been through this for the 50th time, “Did you ever tell Chan about it? He keeps asking me about you Y/n and I want you guys to get to talking again. I feel bad for lying to him.”
Y/n let a sigh out. She hadn’t told Chan about when her condition got worse. She hadn’t even told him about her ending up in the hospital for months and she wanted to keep it that way.
“No I haven’t told him yet, I just don’t want to put a lot on his plate plus I’m fine now and out of bed rest,”
“I know sweetheart but-“
“My love! Don’t get involved in their love life, I keep telling you this,” Chan’s dad interrupts his mum. Y/n had always admired and craved their love. They were such a cute couple, such a happy couple.
“I know darling but if they won’t even talk, how will they get married?!” She exclaims causing Y/n to choke. Married?
“Look at what you’re saying now! You’ll chase the poor girl away. Let them be please!”
“Fine, Fine. More dumplings?" She asks dumping a few more dumplings on Y/n’s plate.

Trilogy Appreciation Week, Day 1: Family
So since I don't know if I'll get a fanfic out by the end of the week (aiming for releasing something for day 4: Home, but we'll see), I'll write some random ideas down here!
For Day 1, a list of family members that would have been fun to see on the Normandy:
Ashley's younger sister that can use a sword. I can't remember which one it was (I think Abby but forgot to save the convo). But just imagine if she was there during 3 and could absolutely destroy Kai Leng at his own game.
Kaidan's mom. Because Chakwas can't be the only ship mom, she needs help sometimes.
Solana Vakarian. We need Garrus to lovingly get bullied by his sister. And for him to lovingly bully her back. Seriously, this series has a severe lack of sibling shenanigans, even Andromeda disappoints despite the Ryder twins both existing at the same time.
Aethyta, because just imagine the absolute chaos that would ensue. Also I think Liara should get to spend time with her dad. It might mitigate some of my issues with her writing in 3 actually, giving Liara time that's not connected to Shepard.
Kolyat Krios! I wish he had joined the Normandy after Thane's death. Imagine the conversations we could have with him, learning about the drell from another perspective and getting to share fond memories about Thane.
Falere- seriously, this is the biggest missed opportunity. I'm not sure how to overcome the whole Justicar Code thing, but just imagine if it happened! We could see the perspective of an actual Ardat-Yakshi, one that isn't proud of what she is and does just want to live in peace!
Bonus: Hannah Shepard. I don't think having her as a permanent member of the Normandy would work out (and would deprive non Spacer Sheps of content), but I wish we had gotten to see her in person. Like, imagine if she came to visit for a bit in 2 or 3!

The Fleet's Post-game Press Session from 1/5/2025 - BOS vs. MTL at Seattle
youtube
The Boston Fleet's post-game press session from after their Takeover Tour game against the Montréal Victoire in Seattle.
At the table were head coach Courtney Kessel, and forwards Susanna Tapani and Hannah Bilka.
A transcription is under the break.
[To keep it on par with the other side I did a marginally looser transcription on this one as well. Basically just cut out some of the stutters and filler words/phrases that you always get in these sorts of interviews as people try to phrase an idea on the spot. I usually keep them in for accuracy, even though they make the text a little muddier, but they do slow things down as they are trickier to get down properly.
Although there were definitely still some reporter bits that I couldn't quite make out.]
[Video seems to begin after a question was asked, as even though the players are still appearing to be getting situated at the desk the video begins with Courtney Kessel speaking.]
COURTNEY KESSEL:
I think just an unbelievable experience. Our players have got to do some fun things yesterday and the day before that. And it’s just really nice to come out with a win. A good hard-fought game and I think we really earned those points today.
Reporter:
Coach, what do you think the turning point of this game was? Obviously that second period was a lot of special teams play. What did you see from your group to pretty much stay with it and not get down going down a couple goals early?
COURTNEY KESSEL:
I think our ability to sustain offense from line to line to line and to continue that was a huge difference for us to continue with the momentum. And then finding ways to get pucks in was one of our biggest things too.
Reporter:
For both players, and similarly to what coach was just talking about, what were some of the conversations or things you were doing on the bench to really turn that tide in that second frame?
HNNAH BILKA:
I think just staying with it. Not getting discouraged with what the score is. I feel like we have a very calm group and kind of a steady vibe to our bench. Just that internal confidence that we know that we’re gonna come back.
Reporter:
And Susanna, for you, especially thinking about that shootout goal, is that something you know where you were going to go with it? Do you just kind of take what’s given?
SUSANNA TAPANI:
That’s actually a long time that I’ve scored that goal, but it’s something that I’ve done in the past for sure. I waited a little too long maybe, but- [chuckles] I’m glad that it went in.
Reporter:
So this game is kicking off the Takeover Tour for the PWHL and I believe that you all have 2 more games left that are going to be in these different neutral sites. How are you approaching this tour? In terms of going to different cities that don’t currently have teams, but have people that want to come see you, and those kinds of things?
COURTNEY KESSEL:
It’s an exciting time for our game and I think you see the growth just continue to grow every single day and we had an amazing audience here today. Hopefully moving forward we can continue to grow this. But if you think about where we were one year ago from today, who would have thought that we could expand so soon. Right? Just reach out to all these young girls and so I think just continue to grow it each and every day. That’s really what these players do.
Reporter:
Two questions please. First, for both of the players, can you tell me about Jessica Campbell coming into the room before the game? Whether you had a chance to talk to her individually, what her message to you before the game, what it meant to you?
SUSANNA TAPANI:
I think it was a big moment for all of us. The work she has done here and we saw on the ice how big she is in this city. Yeah, it was awesome. Awesome moment that she came into the locker room and told us that we should be proud, all of us, for what we have done here.
HANNAH BILKA:
Yeah, it was really cool. I feel like I’ve been following her for awhile and she’s just paved the way for women’s hockey. To be an assistant coach in the NHL, that’s a huge deal. So it was so cool getting to be able to hear her talk and be at the game here today.
Reporter:
And coach, can you speak a little bit about yesterday’s clinics and the autograph signings and the whole vibe? And how did what you experienced in Seattle compare to what you experience in the 6 PWHL cities?
COURTNEY KESSEL:
I think one of our core values as a team is to impact the community. And I think when you come into a place that doesn’t have a team just yet in the PWHL, it’s great to get out and to reach out to those little girls. They were at our practice cheering for us, so I think that’s a great environment for practice. And then to be able to get on the ice with a few of them, the players got out to throw the fish and kind of experience the city a little bit. So it’s really great to get out into the community and express our love for the game and give back a little bit.
Reporter:
I was wondering, before the final [???] changed the tone of things a little bit, do you think your team deserved a little better than it had going for it?
COURTNEY KESSEL:
Yeah, you know, heading down the stretch here, we’ve been on a little bit of a long road trip looking for a puck to kind of find the back of the net for us and see the light at the end of the tunnel. So it was really nice to see that go in. I think the biggest key is just to stick to our gameplan. We played a great 60 minutes. When we went into the first period- or the first intermission down two, I don’t think it was an indicator of how we were playing and I love to see us battle back.
Reporter:
Down two goals you still had some pretty stellar goalkeeping behind you. Knowing you were going to have to take some risks do some [???] what does the level of goalkeeping you have behind you allow you to do in situation like that? Knowing that you do have that kind of an anchor.
HANNAH BILKA:
I think it just gives us so much confidence as group. We know she’s gonna come up with a big save and really keep us in the game. So she’s our anchor back there. Yeah, just can’t say enough great things about how good of a goaltender she is.
Reporter:
Kind of keeping the theme here, it was a pretty marquee metric for the goaltenders in this one in general. Players, coach, can you just speak to what you saw out of [Ann-Renée] Desbiens in this one? Obviously she had a good game going on before you guys let things kind of [???].
COURTNEY KESSEL:
I think across the league we have tremendous goaltending and that’s probably why the scores of the games are always kept pretty low. But two tremendous goaltenders going head-to-head in the great city of Seattle, with a great fan base; I think we gave them a game that everyone wanted. Some physicality and brought us all the way into a shootout, so it’s exciting. But I think when you have the top 10 goaltenders in the world you’re gonna see great goaltending every single night.
Reporter:
And then I’d just like to ask, you kind of touched on it a little bit there coach, but what do you hope the fans who were at attendance today and were able to see you at practices yesterday, take away from this one? Obviously when the Jocks In Jills podcast mentioned expansion to the city it was pretty loud. It looks like that’s what people want here.
COURTNEY KESSEL:
Yeah, a very warm welcome from Seattle and I think our players enjoyed it. I want them to see our game and how amazing it is and how amazing these players are and how hard they work. And, you know, the game is fast, it’s physical, and we’re just at the beginning of where we want this league to take off to.
[End of video.]

The Family Dynamic: Hughes!Sister
Author: @cw-coffeeandice
Title: The Family Dynamic
Summary: a brief introduction to the Hughes family.
Comment: As a lifelong hockey fan, I'm stepping into new territory by sharing my writing for the first time. For 2025, I’ve decided to put my creative skills to the test and see where this journey takes me. While I’ve often written short stories for fun, I’ve never shared the worlds I’ve created with others—until now. I’m excited to see how this evolves.
If you enjoyed this, please feel free to let me know through an ask, comment, or reblog. I’m always open to prompts, suggestions, and feedback!
Please note this writing is unedited
Jim is the quintessential hockey dad. When he wasn’t working or coaching, he could always be found at the rink with his kids. As a coach, Jim was disciplined and no-nonsense, instilling a sense of structure and responsibility that benefitted all four of his children. He was the supportive, steady presence at home, leaving the day-to-day discipline to his wife, Ellen. Watching his children grow into incredible young adults, both on and off the ice, filled Jim with immense pride and gratitude for everything his wife sacrificed to make their kid's dreams come true.
Ellen is the backbone of the family—a full-time mom to a handful of hyperenergetic, fiercely competitive kids. Managing their schoolwork and hockey schedules and keeping them all alive (which, some days, she and Jim called a miracle) was no easy feat. But Ellen thrived in the chaos. She was fiercely proud of her children, watching her boys grow into accomplished young men while her daughter carved out her own legacy.
Quinn, the eldest, was the responsible, rule-following perfectionist of the family. He thrived on structure and order, dedicated to following rules to the letter. As the older brother, he was protective of his younger siblings, often taking it upon himself to enforce the rules he believed everyone should follow. As he grew, hockey became second nature to him—both a mental and physical pursuit. Quinn loved studying the game, honing his skills, and constantly working to improve on the ice. He wasn’t the most outgoing of the siblings, but he preferred it that way, enjoying the sense of calm that came with his focused, introverted nature.
Jack, the middle child, was born to challenge Quinn. A natural social butterfly and a bit of a rebel, Jack loved testing boundaries, whether with his older brother, his parents, or his coaches. He was the glue of the family. Though he often instigated conflict, he was also the one who stepped in to resolve it. Jack had a unique relationship with each member of the family, always making time for the people he loved, no matter how busy life got. On the ice, Jack worked hard to develop his skills, but hockey never felt like a chore. It came naturally to him, and he thrived on dominating the game. The best part was sharing those wins with his brothers.
Luke, the youngest of the boys, was the family’s comic relief. The most easygoing of the children, Luke had a gift for making his family laugh, often in the most unexpected ways. His biggest concern was simply trying to keep up with his older brothers—though this often led to humorous situations. Like Quinn, Luke excelled at defensive play on the ice. He and his younger sister, Hannah, were so close in age that they were practically raised as twins. That closeness did create a special bond.
Hannah, the youngest and only girl, was a surprise—so much so that Ellen considered permanent birth control, and Jim eventually got a vasectomy. As the only girl in a hockey-focused family, Hannah was often compared to her older brothers. Initially, the comparisons didn’t bother her, but it became clear that women’s hockey was not always treated the same as the men’s game. Despite these differences, Hannah had made peace with the path she would take in hockey. She loved the game, and that passion was enough to fuel her desire to continue playing. The ice was her sanctuary, where she could define success in her own way.

Cool Heart, Hot Headed(Lionesses x Reader)
Tumblr media
warnings: ⚠️blood, trash talking⚠️
a/n: also, writing this as chelsea are in the FA cup final… LETS FUCKING GO!!! BLUES UNITE. based off this request here (this seriously flopped)
prompt: during the euros, the swedes are playing incredibly dirty and as the reader tries to brush it off, her teammates are very angry and protective of her
Patience. It was definitely your best quality. Yes, you felt anger and disappointment, as well as rage and pain. But you were always patient.
It did come to a shock to your english teammates when Sweden suddenly had it out for you. But it didn’t surprise them that you were as calm as ever.
The Euros semi final had everyone on edge. This was the moment. This was the chance to bring it home. The lionesses needed this. They needed a major trophy for England. The men sure as well weren’t bringing it anywhere near the airport, let alone home.
So it was your chance to make your country, your people proud.
You walked onto that field behind Mary and Leah, sang your national anthem loudly and proudly.
"You look pale," Leah whispered in your ear. "All good cap. Just kinda scared of Björn. She’s giving me looks that make it seem like she wants to kill me," you said, locking eyes with the Swede, smiling lightly and receiving a scowl in return. "Don’t worry about them. They’re all look no game. Don’t tell Magda I said that," Millie said, having overheard.
You nodded and then took the team picture. The girls huddled up, did a cheer and then you took your position as the CAM.
Right off the bat, the game was nail biting. Any english fans watching at home, or in the stadium, surely felt as though something was going to happen. The swedes were coming in strong. But they weren’t attacking anyone as violently, as hard, and with as much resilience and they did to you.
The first hit you took was in the eighth minute. Fridolina Rolfö came out of nowhere. You were scanning your options from the midfield, no one around you. You were taking small touches to move forward, and then out of nowhere you heard "Man on!" and then felt a strong force hit you from behind. You went flying forwards, falling oto the floor with a loud thump. You groaned loudly, rolling onto your back as you heard the referee blow her whistle.
In your mind, that was a yellow, but Rolfö got let off with a warning. Lucy helped you up, brushing grass off your back as you tried to get dirt of your white kit.
Only two minutes later, you were the victim of another attack. This time by Jakobsson. As you turned with the ball and carried it down the middle, you felt your jersey getting tugged from behind, you tried to keep running but the pull made you stumble and fall awkwardly on your shoulder. Sofias momentum was still going, and she tripped over you, leaving a deep clear mark on your thigh.
You could hear scrambled voices of your teammates yelling at the referee who somehow decided the ball was to be given to Sweden. Fran helped you up gently, and you could see Millie trying to calm down Sarina as she was all worked up.
"What did you do to them? they’re going at you hard!" Fran joked. "I don’t know. But it’s okay. It’s fine," you answered calmly, walking towards Elle and Leah who were having a pretty angry talk with the ref.
"Girls! It’s okay. It’s fine. Let’s keep going," you said.
Swedens free kick resulted in nothing, and then you kept moving.
In the thirtieth minute, you were awarded a corner. You took your spot in the box, at the back post, and prepared yourself. The second the ball came in, you tried to jump up, but you felt a hand pushing you. Quicker than you knew it, you had fallen into the net pretty aggressively, your body crashing against the netting.
Zecira Musovic had caught the ball, and looked at you strangely as you struggled to get your cleats undone from the net. "She fucking pushed her! Yes you fucking did. Yes you did," Keira yelled, addressing the ref and then Hannah Glas.
"Keira!" you whispered harshly in her ear, making her turn to look at you and put her arms on your forearms. Most of your team was surrounding you now. "I am okay. Can we play this game please. Let’s go girls," you said sternly. "Y/n… this is getting unsafe," Leah said, concern in her voice. "I don’t care."
For once, you got away with the last word, walking off from the girls as they shared looks of worry.
At the end of the first half, your kit was a mess. There were more brown and green patches than white ones. Your face was dirty and your England kit was absolutely grimey. As you lifted the corner of your shirt, one of the only clean parts, to wipe off dirt from your cheek, you realized how scratched and bruise your stomach was.
You were quick to drop your shirt, hoping no teammates or cameras had picked up on your state.
The second you exited the pitch, Sarina had her arm around you. "You’re a fighter. You know that? I don’t know how you’re not loosing your shit out there," your coach said to you, squeezing your shoulder. "Loosing my shit won’t help anyone. It won’t help us win," you said simply. "That mentality, that’s gonna get us that cup. You hear me?" She said, keeping a hold of you as you both walked into the changing room. The second you walked in, the girls were all talking over each other with worry.
"I’ll kill them!"
"Are you okay?"
"How are you not screaming right now?"
"I don’t know how you’re so patient."
"Are you bruised? Cut? Bloody?"
"I am fine! But I won’t be fine if we don’t win this. So let’s win it," you said, sitting down next to Mary who gave you a quick kiss on the forehead.
Sarina went over what we were doing well, and what we weren’t, as you changed your kit into a clean one. You threw the dirty one away and then put your cleats back on as you had chosen to change socks too.
The girls and Sarina left the changing room, leaving you and Leah behind. She had given you a look that said "stay back."
"Listen to me, y/n/n. If you feel unsafe on that field for a second. You tell me, and Sarina will sub you off. Your safety is more important than a trophy. And this team is full of brilliant players, you’re irreplaceable… but what i’m saying is your spot can be… filled in if needed," your captain said. "Leah… we both know how bad you want that trophy," you said to her as you walked out of the room. "Yeah. I do. But I don’t want it enough to sacrifice you for it," Leah said.
"I won’t die, Lee. Let’s play," you said.
You jogged onto the field with her, the stadium erupting at the sight of their skipper and co-skipper.
Sweden seemed to have slowed down a little, on their attack on you, that is. The game was still very much packed with action. They left you along for a solid 30 minutes, which you were immensely grateful for.
But with the 75 minute, came what felt like the 75th foul on you.
Everyone lost their shit.
All, but you.
Everything about Asllani’s tackle was dirty. They way she didn’t even touch the ball. The way foot was way off the ground and her studs were pointed upwards. The way that went she connected with you, and you fell sideways with a scream, she made no attempt to stop her slide, choosing instead to let her studs graze all the way up the side of your leg.
Magda Ericsson had been the only sane Swede on the pitch, rushing toward her midfielder and grabbing her under the arms to pull her off you. She told her off in swedish before trying to check on you. But your team was having nothing of it. Millie gently told the swedish captain, and her club teammate, to back off so she didn’t get yelled at by the lionesses
Your eyes were teary due to the pain of it all. Your leg lay bloody on the turf, the crimson mess of it all starting to trickle down the sides of your thighs. You couldn’t really register the whole thing, but you could see the referee pointing at Asllani and giving her a yellow. But you also saw Leah get one, and Lucy, and then Keira. What were they saying to get them into that mess? "Tell them to stop before we have to play with a man down," you let out to Georgia who was kneeling beside you.
The medics were quick to soak up the blood, revealing a series of cuts made by the studs, but nothing too too serious. "I can keep playing, right?" you asked the medics. "No!" Leah said at the same time as all the other girls let out scattered cries of "no way" and "nuh uh".
"Guys. It’s a cut. It’s fine. I’m sure it was an acc-" you started saying. "No! No it was not an accident. You are too patient at this point, y/n. You need to protect yourself. But if you won’t, I will. You’re going off," Leah said with a sternness you hadn’t seen before.
You held eye contact with her for a while, the air tense. "No. Thirty pounds. Thirty pounds says i’ll score. Don’t take me off, don’t let Sarina sit me on the bench when I can make a difference for this team," you said, standing up, so determined to prove you could stay on the acknowledge the pain you should have been in.
"Fine. Thirty pounds," Leah said.
And then you were playing again, your leg bandaged up, your body in pain, and your mind set. You were everywhere on the pitch. Defending, attacking, demanding a goal. Everyone was shocked, shocked to see you so agressive after being pushed around so much. It just went to show that all your pain and annoyance was fueled into football.
Twenty minutes later, in 90+5, Leah because thirty pounds poorer.
A corner taken by Leah had gotten cleared away by a header, and came straight to you in your position from the outside of the box.
You didn’t think twice. You waited till the ball was perfectly low, and then hit it on the volley. The power on the shot made the ball spin, and it went straight into the goal, hitting the roof of the net.
You screamed loudly, running towards the corner flag, your team chasing after you, and jumping into Ellen’s arms. "LETS FUCKING GO. LETS FUCKING GO!" you screamed at full force.
Ellen let you down and your teammates took turn grabbing your face and kissing your forehead in excitement. The subs were all celebrating around you, and as you ran back to your position, you pumped your first in the air, making the fans screams double somehow.
When the final whistle blew, you cried. Partly of joy, but mostly of pure agony.
Your teammates helped you off the floor, basically carrying you around the field in their arms, making you laugh. But the second you were inside, you let out a shaky cry. Of relief, yes, but of pain. "It’ll be okay. You were amazing, and you’ll be all fixed for Wembley," Leah said, handing you thirty pounds and winking.

@/tomblyth you really are the love of my life. i've spent 3 years and a half waiting for the right moment to tell the world how incredible you are, and right now that moment has arrived. the people don't know how much you've sacrificed and you've worked for this book and its adaptation. experiencing the process up close is something special that no one but you makes it worth it. thank you for everything, y/n/n.
