âSo this has been going on for five years?â Frankie sat at the kitchen island trying to wrap her brain around everything.Â
âNo, once five years ago. And now, only for a few months.â Lara explained.Â
âMonths?!â Frankieâs eyes went bug eyed.Â
âWeeks! A few weeks!â Lara corrected herself to ease Frankie more into it. She was in full damage control mode and trying to back track her mistake of not telling her best friend about her and Angel, although classifying it as a mistake wasnât exactly true. She had her reasons for not saying anything but she was regretting her finding out this way. Laraâs eyes moved over to the person to her right expecting him to chime in but Angel was too busy stuffing his face.Â
Lara closed her eyes and took a big sigh before looking back at Frankie.Â
âI was going to tell you, I promise I was going to tell you.â Her hand extended across the island to grab Frankieâs. âI just, things are really complicated right now. I didnât wanna risk Bishop finding out and honestly we werenât really sure this was anything until yesterday anyways.âÂ
At that Angel looked up from his plate, âUm, no I was actually sure, just following your lead.âÂ
Lara looked at him with a frown and then back at Frankie, âAlright well I wasnât sure this was anything so I wanted to wait to tell you.â
Frankie just sat there, frown on her face, more confused than angry as she took in all the information.
âAre you happy?â She looked at Lara and asked, her face was serious.Â
Lara looked at Frankie for a split second before looking over to Angel who was also waiting for her response. Her silence was bringing anxiety to everyone in the room except herself. Turning back to Frankie she nodded.Â
âThe happiest Iâve been since Aiden.â She knew Frankie would get that, Lara loved her little brother like anyone would have loved and cared for their little sibling, but Aiden brought Lara pure joy into her life and when he died that light in Lara went with him.Â
âOkay then.â Frankie said with a nod and she stood up getting ready to leave.Â
âIâm going up north with Hank today to see my grandma.â She was grabbing her bag and situating it back over her pajamas.Â
âItâs like 5 in the morning.â Angel said confused since the girl had just gotten home an hour ago and was pretty drunk.Â
Lara knew though. This time of year was difficult for everyone. For Lara and Bishop it brought up the painful memories of losing Aiden. For Frankie and Hank it was his mother, her grandmother, while she was still alive, she was going downhill but they still went up every year around this time to celebrate the anniversary of her beating cancer. It was fucked up that the year she beat cancer the early onset of Alzheimer's began. It gave them an excuse to visit her and ring the bell every year, though and it did bring some happiness to each of them to see her celebrate it.Â
âI completely spaced.â Lara said realizing it was one of the reasons she had gotten drunk. âDo you need a ride?â Yes, Lara was sucking up, but thatâs what you did when you were in full damage control mode with your best friend. You kissed her ass.Â
âNo Hankâs picking me up, Iâm gonna wait outside for him.â She squeezed Laraâs arm and gave a half smile even though it looked more like a frown. âIâm happy youâre happy. You deserve that.âÂ
As Frankie passed Angel she leaned over to give him a quick goodbye. âIf you hurt her Iâll fuckinâ gut you.â It was said at such a whisper, Angel almost missed it but he didnât. His eyes went wide and his brows met in the middle of his forehead as the shock and confusion of what Frankie said to him settled in. As Frankie pulled away the smile on her face was like nothing of the sorts had just been spoken from her mouth.Â
Lara walked Frankie to the door, there was so much more she wanted to say but right now wasnât the right time. But she couldnât just say nothing.Â
âI want you to know itâs not because I didnât trust youââ
âI know, Lara. Itâs because you wanted to keep it yours. I get it.â The smile on Frankieâs face was a lot more genuine now, âbut Iâm still mad at you. And whatever this is, I expect it when Iâm back.â She laughed, referring to Laraâs full kiss ass mode.Â
The two hugged before Frankie walked out the door leaving Lara and Angel in the apartment by themselves.Â
âThat couldâve gone worse!â Angel said, standing up from the stool.Â
âThat couldâve gone better.â Lara said with an eye roll.Â
âWell, Iâm sure a couple hours of sleep will make you feel better.â Angel was practically begging to go back to bed.Â
âYou can go back to bed but I have tons of shit I need to get done.â Lara started picking through the cabinet under the sink for cleaning supplies.Â
âWhat?â Angel frowned and looked at what Lara was doing.Â
âIâm in full damage control mode, Iâm gonna clean her room, like really clean her room and do her laundry.â Lara said in an obvious way like Angel should have known better. âWhy donât you go home, crash, and call me when youâre up, Iâll come over and we can stay at your place tonight. Give Frankie some space.âÂ
Angel was genuinely baffled and confused but knew better than to argue with the girl. âSure, you donât need help cleaning?âÂ
âThanks for the offer but Iâll be good.â Lara smiled as Angel bent down and placed a kiss on her head.
Cleaning was actually pretty therapeutic for Lara, it gave her time to clear her head while also going through some thoughts and feelings she needed to sort out, doing this for Frankie felt like the right thing. She honestly didnât hide it because she thought Frankie would tell Bishop it was exactly what Frankie said, she wanted it to be just her and Angelâs thing. No outside sway or opinions. It was dark by the time Angel called, Lara knew he had probably been up for a while and got called into club stuff, she didnât mind, it gave her more time around the house.Â
Now at Angelâs, the two of them were knocked out on the couch, both catching up on the hours they missed from the night prior. Hours mustâve passed by just with the TV playing overnight in the background while the two laid snoring on the couch. An alarm went off on someones phone, causing both of them to stir awake, both a little frightened while they searched for the source of the noise.Â
âItâs not mine.â Angel said his voice groggy and raspy.Â
âItâs mine, I have a shift. Itâs already 7AM.â Lara sighed and plopped back down against Angel who had already tried to go back to sleep.Â
âCall out.â Angel mumbled.Â
âI wish, I need the money. Iâm gonna shower.â Lara wasnât exactly speaking at anything higher than a mumble either. âPlease can you make me coffee?âÂ
The groan from Angelâs throat was one of annoyance but not one of defiance so Lara knew sheâd have a hot cup of coffee when she got out of the shower which is what motivated her to get up in the first place. âThank you.âÂ
______
âI donât know what you did to get water pressure like that but Iâm demanding you come to our apartment and do it to our shower.â Lara said as she walked through Angelâs house in one of his flannels and her hair wet ready for a coffee.Â
To Laraâs surprise, Angel wasnât alone, she walked right into the living room where EZ was with the biggest grin on his face.Â
âHi Lara.â He smiled from ear to ear.Â
âProspect.â She rolled her eyes, no need to hide now. If Frankie didnât tell him, she eventually would have and there was no going back from or denying her swimming in Angelâs clothes.Â
Angel had a cup of coffee in his hand and handed one to Lara. âEZ brought coffee, you can have mine.â
âIf I knew you were gonna have company I would have brought three, or not come at all.â The grin on EZâs face was getting bigger as he spoke, he wanted to boast and tell Angel every version of âI told you soâ that he could.Â
Lara took two sips from the cup and handed it back to Angel. âHere I just needed a jolt, I gotta get ready and head out anyways, Iâll grab something on the way.â And before she could even let either of them respond she was running back into Angelâs room and tossing her all black hostess outfit on and tying her hair back.Â
As the two boys stood alone in the living room, EZ wiggled his eyebrows at Angel which earned him a light shove and âshut the fuck upâ before Lara reappeared in the room.Â
âSorry to leave like this, thanks for the coffee sips.â She stood up on her tip toes to grab Angelâs head and leave a kiss on his lips before grabbing her purse off the hooks and going to the door to leave. âBye EZ!âÂ
Now both the men were truly alone in Angelâs house, there was a couple seconds of silence before EZ spoke up.Â
âSo should I say I told you so, I was right, or something else? Iâll let you come up with it even, it can be a joint effort.â EZ was still grinning from ear to ear.Â
âMan, shut up.â Angel turned to grab his kutte from the hooks. âI thought you needed me for club shit.âÂ
âI do, but this is just my reward for having to play hide n seek with the fuckinâ club. No one answers their phone this early.âÂ
âYea bro, itâs 7 fuckin AM.â Angelâs eyebrows raised as he placed his kutte on and grabbed the coffee back to chug half of it down. âCome on letâs go.âÂ
âYo,â EZ said as they started to head out themselves. âDonât fuck this shit up.â It was serious, he wasnât grinning anymore, it was coming from a genuine place.Â
âDonât go saying shit at the club, aight? Bish doesnât know and Iâm gonna let Lara tell me how she wants to deal with that.â Angel yelled back at his little brother and paused before speaking up again.Â
âAnd Iâm not gonna fuck it up.â

When you love the wrong brother
Pairings: oc x Hank Loza
Warnings: swearing, alcohol, implied smut...usual Mayans stuff.
Jade was lounging on her sofa at home, some replay of a sitcom playing in the background. She couldn't shake the feeling of anxiety pitted deep in her stomach. It had been a week since Jade had heard a word from her friend with benefits Angel Reyes. This was a normal occurrence, she was busy with work and Angel had club stuff to deal with.
Their friends with benefits arrangement was simple...they both had an itch to scratch and were both consenting adults so why not use the other to scratch that itch? Jade knew it would end badly. For her crush on Angel was growing more and more the more they benefited each other. She knew it was hopeless. He'd never willingly pick her over all the other girls that threw themselves at the Mayan.
Jade shook her head to rid herself of the negative thoughts that began to creep in. As if on cue her phone rang. Her heart raced at the name flashing upon the screen.... Angel đŒ
"speak of the devil and it shall appear" she answered.
"hey querida...it's been a minute..."
"could say that...club stuff I get it"
"yeah...anyway there's a party tonight at the club house and I really want you to come"
"ohh I dunno Angel I'm pretty busy..."
"pfft please all you're doing is laying on the couch bored"
"How did...never mind" she mumbled.
"please come...there's something I gotta tell you...it's super important..." Jade could almost see the puppy dog eyes and pouty lips over the phone.
"Fine... I'll be there .."
Once the conversation ended the uneasy feeling returned to Jade tenfold. Despite trying to put Abit of distance between her and Angel her resolve was weak and he knew that.
Sighing Jade made her way to her bathroom to shower and get ready for the upcoming party. The more she thought of tonight the more her stomach aches with anxiety and the intensity of it is new to jade. Settling on her favourite pair of blood red jeans and simple black tank top paired with her new biker boots. Her hair was in simple waves with light make up. Not too over the top. " That'll do" she sighed grabbing her purse.
Pulling into an empty parking space Jade could see there was the usual group of bikes and cars plus some she hadn't seen before. The smell of BBQ and beer assaults her nostrils. Walking upto the club house Jade hears the sound of music pumping through the stereo and various groups of chatter, billiard balls click clacking against each other.
The first person she see when she opens the door is Hank. His smile stretches across his features upon seeing Jade. He engulfs her in a bear hug. "Good too see you jade..you look great"
"Thanks..you too Hank....so do you know what this big surprise is?" Hank shrugged his broad shoulders in response.
"haven't a clue...drink?"
"read my mind" Jade and Hank made their way through the sea of people to the bar.
"Prospect...two beers"
"Steve..good too see you how ya been?" Jade enquiries at the newest prospect.
"all right thanks" Hank quality admires the woman standing next to him. No matter their position in the club or outside or life in general Jade had this open kindness too them, a respect almost. Hank admired that about her. Most girls would only be interested in the fully patched MC members or those with titles, but not her.
"Earth to Hank.."
"oh sorry was miles away.." Jade chuckles.
"Tell me about this girl you been talking too.."
" Not much too say...just helping her through a hard time.. she's coming to my mom's for Thursday dinner though"
"ooohh must be special then..."
"Shut up.. " Hank blushes as Nail's appears at his side. She eyes up Jade. Jade notices a familiar ring upon her finger. It can't be can it?
'Hank, I'm gonna go find Angel let him know I'm here" Hank nods as Jade wanders through the sea of people. He barely notices Nails standing Infront of him. He watches amazed in awe that Jade stops and speaks to every one she passed before finally getting to her destination.
Angel stands up from the couch engulfing her in a quick hug. "Glad you could come Jade... wouldn't be the same without you."
" Well, you said it was important so here I am..."
"I'm glad, wouldn't be the same without you."
"well what can I say? " Jade replied taking a sip of her beer. "I'll be back ok? Just gotta use the bathroom"
The earlier feelings of unease and anxiety return with a vengeance. "Jesus, calm down jade" she mumbled to herself. Leaving the bathroom jade enters the main room of the club house. People are gathered around listening. She makes her way to where Ez , Gabby & Hank are standing watching Angel.
"We're engaged ..and we're having a baby!" Angel shouts in happiness. Jade feels like the life has been knocked from her lungs. She feels hot. Angry.
Shouts and hollers erupt around her deafening her, but not enough so she can't hear her angry broken heart beating furiously. Gabby stares at Jade her own heart breaking at the scene Infront of her.
Ez is the first to speak. He sighs. "I'm sorry Jade, I had no idea.." jade was rooted to the spot.
"I need to go..now" she mutters
Hank looks heart broken. He had developed feelings for Nail's, but he was beyond pissed at how carelessly Angel had discarded Jade without so much as a second glance.
Jade grabbed her the crate of beers and left the clubhouse. Stray tears falling freely ,she hastily wipes them away and downs one beer then another.
"Here you are... I was looking for you"
"Piss of Angel, go back to playing happy families with your fiancée"
"Jade, c'mon I thought you'd be happy for me"
A sarcastic laugh escaped her lips. "It was only what 8 ? 9 days you was in my bed with me....now you are getting married too another girl who's having a baby? .....humour me Angel....do you love her?" Jade's voiced cracking at the end of the last sentence.
Angel shrugs his shoulders " I don't know.. I guess"
"you know what's funny? I actually thought for some silly stupid reason you might just like me back they way I like you....jokes on me though right?'
"Jade, please don't be like this" Angel went to grab Jade's shoulder. "Get off me. You don't get to touch me any more" she shrugged the offending hand off her frame leaving a dejected looking Angel standing on the porch. Back in the club house Jade returned the crate of beers to their rightful spot.
"Sorry Steve, just really needed a few drinks"
The prospect gave a small smile "S'ok Jade. Angel's a dick, you deserve some one much better" The unpatched member's words made Jade choke back a sob just a Nail's came into Jade's field of vision.
"Aww poor little Jade. Actually thought that Angel liked her....what's the saying?....always the bridesmaid never the bride" she smirked.
"Just because you're pregnant doesn't mean I won't hit you"
"Try it and see what happens....why are you still here anyway? No one wants you here...no one wants you at all...."
"Enough!" Hank demanded with authority.
"Ohh Hank thank god your here...."
"Cut the crap....I heard every thing. I thought that you and I had something special...guess I was wrong...don't bother turning up to Thursday night dinner. You aren't welcome. And by the way Nail's... I want Jade here she's always welcome here" Nails scurried off in a mood to Angel's side who eyes both Hank & Jade.
"I uhh have to go" Jade sniffed.
"C'mon. Let's get outta here. I need some space."
Hank lead the heart broken girl over to the parking lot. He gave her the spare helmet from his bike.
"what? I hear pancakes and ice creams are good for broken hearts" a small smile made its way to Jade's features. She clips her helmet on and before she knows it they whizzing down the Santo padre streets. Once Hank has parked the bike he leads Jade to a small 24 hour diner. "This place has the best pancakes in Santo padre."
"I'll have to take you're word for that el pacifcador"
"Si ma Bella dama" Jade shakes her head in confusion.
"my Spanish is shocking...which is embarrassing considering I live in a border town"
"Just Abit" Hank teases as they take a seat..."I'll have to teach you. I'm an excellent teacher"
"I'm sure you are" the waitress approaches their table with a warm smile.
"Annie good to see you"
"You too Hank, how's your mom?"
"she's great thank you....oh this is my friend Jade"
Annie extends a hand for Jade to shake. Jade has barely touched the older woman's hand before Annie drops her hand like a hot stone.
"what? What's wrong?" Jade asks panicked.
" You my dear girl are in love with the wrong brother" with that Annie hurries to make the order she knew Hank & Jade wanted without asking.
Jade's brow furrowed. "What does she mean? In love with the wrong brother? I mean Ez is nice and all but I would never look at him like that"
"Annie and my mom have let's say... special gifts? They can see aura's and all that stuff"
"Oh ....I see"
Annie repeats with the order of coffee pancakes and ice creams. "See..."
' I get it now'
"I'm guessing Nails was the girl?"
"Was being the right word....I dunno. I just thought maybe she different? Like I dunno she might just like me for me" Jade reached across the table and took the Mayans hand and gives it ap gentle squeeze in understanding.
" Well, here's to us rejects then eh? "
" I know Angel is my brother but I'm angry. Angry he did this to me. To you. I'll get over it eventually...so will you Jade."
"I hope so...I was dumb enough to think I could be some ones first choice but as usual always the bridesmaid never the bride...fuck... I'm so stupid Hank I should know by now that I am always the last resort, that some one might actually like me for me." In a bid to lighten the mood Hank urges Jade to try the pancakes.
"Damn these are good....know where I'm coming to get my pancake fix from"
Later that evening Hank and Jade strolled together back to his bike. "I suppose I should get you back to the clubhouse so you can go home"
"Yeah...it's been a day"
On the return journey Jade cuddled just that tiny bit closer to the Biker. She could smell his cologne and the smell of leather and whiskey. It was a heady combination.
Hank had been such a sweetheart to Jade tonight. How could Nail's do this to him? Rage filled her thoughts at what she wanted to do. Hank was such a gentleman and Nail's knew how he felt.
' Thank you , Hank for everything" Jade returned the spare helmet. Shaking her hair back into place.
"No, thank you. It was nice to have Abit of time away from all this" Jade agreed with him.
'Yeah...well I'll guess I'll see you around?"
"Sure....just not so long next time?" Jade gave a small smile and pecked a kiss on Hank's cheek.
Hank watched as she drove away into the night.
"well you don't hang around do you?"
" I'd back off if I were you Reyes"
"Or what?"
" You Dont want Jade but you don't want anyone else to have her either. You knew how she felt about you...Nails knew how I felt about her but you both went and done what you did....fuck you don't deserve her. You're both welcome to each other.
Back home Jade ran through all that had happened tonight. It was like she was in some awful dream. But she noted that now the deep feeling of anxiety and worry from earlier had gone, and that the time spent with Hank it never came back like it did with Angel.
The thing that Annie said kept playing on her mind.
"The wrong brother, Gabby like what dies that even mean?" Jade asked. Jade and Gabby met at least once a week for lunch or just a coffee if their schedules wouldn't allow.
"I don't know but I think you know deep down what she meant"
" I do? Cos it's been a week and I'm still not any clearer.."
" Maybe it's Hank?"
"we're just friends Gabby. We are helping each other through this"
"That's how Ez and I started out..."
"yeah yeah..."
" There's a carnival in town tonight you should come...get out for Abit. Ez will be taking me ... something about the club offering security detail I was half asleep when he told me"
' maybe I'll see how I feel...I don't think I'm ready to see the club just yet'
Gabby frowned. "It's not healthy this hold he has over you''
"I'm just trying to protect myself Gabby, it's still really raw... I'll think about it"
Later that afternoon Jade was at home dancing around to the music coming through her headphones and did not hear the knock at her door.
"Jesus Mary and Joseph! Hank you scared me what the fuck!"
"Sorry... I was knocking for ages...nice moves by the way" he grinned
"Shut up.... What are you doing here? Isn't the club on security detail at the carnival?"
"we are but I wanted to ask you to come with me...that's if you want too of course"
"ohh I wasn't going to go...did Gabby send you?"
"Maybe..or maybe I just wanted to take a pretty awesome girl out for a few hours of fun".
Jade thought she was going to melt with how sweet Hank was being. "Well how can a girl say no to that? Lemme change and sort myself out real quick"
When jade returned gone were the short PJ's shirts and over sized shirt. In its place where a pair of denim shorts and black tee shirt that reads "eww David" and her converse
"Eww David?" Hank asked puzzled.
"Schitts creek?"
"Not a clue mi dulce" jade rolled her green eyes.
"seriously you've never seen schitts creek?" " No I don't watch much TV..maybe we can watch it sometime"
"Duh...like I'd let you be my friend if you wasn't gonna let me"
The ride on Hank's bike was quick . The sounds of carnival music , rides and laughter filled the air. Hot dog and candy floss wafted around her.
For the first ten minutes Hank and Jade strolled around together on Hank's security round. They stopped at a stall . "Aww look how big this stitch is!"
" Spoze I'll have to try win you it now huh?"
"Maybe...."
After handing the cash over Hank took aim with the pellet gun. " Score 100 you get the big stuffed toy 50 is medium sized"
With ease Hank fired the pellet gun scoring 100.
"here's your prize" the attendant hands Hank the large toy Jade admired earlier.
" stuffed animal for the lady"
Jade blushed furiously. " Thank you... although I think it was a done deal you fire guns on a near daily basis" Hank shrugs causing Jade to chuckle.
The pair walk around the grounds of the carnival before they find the rest of the MC in the beer tent.
"Why is it every time I see you two, your always eating?"
"I'm a growing boy" Gilly says between mouthfuls of hot dog and cotton candy.
"Yeah growing outwards" Bishop adds.
"Well when is Jade gunna make me some Mac and cheese? ...."
" I swear all you men think about is pussy ,food motorcycles and beer"
Taza laughs at Jade's assumption of the MC, she wasn't far off. The group of chatter us interrupted by club stuff. The men leaving the post of the beer tent. Jade hears a scoff behind her. "Ignore her" Gabby advises.
"Ya know Gabby, once I marry Angel, we will be family..."
" you're no family of mine"
" well I will be...I am wearing Marisol's ring after all and not Jade"
"Nails you don't deserve to wear Marisol's ring. She'd be turning in her grave, god rest her soul"
"c'mon Gabby let's go... I don't think I can bite my tounge much longer".
Jade and Gabby leave Nails in the tent, not wanting to be around the person who caused so much heartbreak.
" Are you ok?"
" I'll be fine..... eventually. let's have a walk about"
"ohh let's go in here" Gabby pulls her pal into the fortune tellers tent.
" isn't this A bunch of hocus Pocus?" She asks skeptically.
"Maybe ...maybe not... It's just Abit if fun"
" Fine..don't say I don't do anything for you"
Jade sits at the table. Madame Starr at the opposite end. She takes Jade's hand in hers and studies her lines in her palm.
" oh Sweet girl... Your heart was bruised... You thought he was the one. He hurt you, I sense he hurt someone else too."
Jade sat froze in her seat. " There's a man...a brother. You love the wrong brother. He's you're one true love. "
Jade bolts from the tent Gabby hot on her heels.
"Jade! Wait!"
Out of breath Gabby catches up with her friend.
Tears that jade tried to hold in erupted. Gabby engulfs her into a hug., Soothing her . " It was Hank wasn't it?" jade nods.
" How can two different people say the exact same thing?"
" Maybe he's who you are meant to be with..."
Jade wipes her face. " This is so fucked up"
" Yep....but look how Ez and I met"
The girls wandered back to the main throng of the carnival. Hank instantly smiling at the sight of Jade approaching.
" All sorted?"
" Yeah, just some punks trying their luck...is it cliché to take you on the Ferris wheel?"
" I love a good cliché" she grins.
Once the pair are in the confines of the cart the view at the top is beautiful. Reds, pinks and oranges blending into a inky sky. Hank just wants to lean over and kiss her.
" Say cheese!" Jade scoots closer to Hank who smiles as she captures a photo of them together. He doesn't move his hand from her waist even when the ride starts to move again.
" Thank you Hank... I've really enjoyed myself tonight".
" Good..good.... Say do you wanna come to dinner on Thursday? " Jade was speechless. Thursday dinner with Hank's mom was a big deal for him.
"mom will feed you way to much food and embarrass me"
"I'd love to Hank. I'll see you Thursday" Jade pecks a kiss to Hank's cheek.
Thursday came around quicker than either Jade or Hank thought.
" Mom, this is Jade.. jade this is my mom"
"Lovely too meet you Mrs ..."
"we don't stand on ceremony in this house. Just Lilly will do"
Lilly went through to the kitchen. ' I'm glad you came Jade.."
" Thanks for inviting me. I'd probably be eating cereal watching schitts creek"
" Yeah I'm still gunna have to watch that. Coco showed me some clips, seems quite funny"
" it is... Don't make plans for this weekend"
The conversation flowed between all three at the dinner table.
" I like you Jade. You have a good heart. You will be good for my Hank"
" Mom!" Jade nearly chokes on her drink.
" ohh uhh we...aren't .."
" Not yet ..but you will be"
Jade could see Hank visibly cringing.
Three people! Jade texted Gabby once she was home.
Over the next few weeks Jade found herself hanging out more and more with Hank. She found herself making sure she had his preferred beers in, Hank would cook for them at his place whilst they watched shirts creek. They would ride out on Hank's bike when ever they could. Hell Hank even participated in face masks and manicures with her.
One evening Jade was over at Hank's place. In what had become their norm, cuddled on the sofa. Not once had Jade thought of Angel, his betrayal. She felt happy, content.
' This is nice'
"hmmm....it is...can I...no never mind" Hank shook the thought from his head. Jade sat up.
" No, tell me''
' I wanted to kiss.." with out either realising their heads moved together lips ghosting over the others. Jade's fingers curled around the back of Hank's neck pulling him closer into her. They only pull away when they both feel the burn in their lungs from lack of oxygen. Jade bites her lip and takes Hank's calloused hand and leads him to the bedroom.
" Are you sure..we ...I " Jade silences him with a kiss walking back wards she lands with a soft thump on the bed. Hank and Jade spend the night under the covers, he worships every curve and angle on her body. This wasn't just sex. It was love. Pure unadulterated love making. It was slow and passionate, not the quick fumbles of days gone by.
In the morning Hank finds Jade cuddled into his side. The memory of last night comes flooding back to him. He drinks in the sight before him. He knows this is where he is meant to be. Jade grumbles as Hank moves from the spot in the bed.
" I'll be back...coffee?" Jade hums in her sleep.
~ 3 months later~
"Are we really doing this?"
" yes we are. You are the one I am meant to be with Hank. I was blind too see it before but it was and always has been you".
" Well Jade Alexis knight, will you marry me?"
" Yes. Yes I will" she beams. Hank slips the white gold band onto Jade's slender finger, and leads her into the small chapel in Vegas. No big fanfare just one witness each and it was done.
" You may kiss your bride" Hank smiles the biggest smile jade has seen and presses his lips to hers.
" Iove you Hank"
Jade parks in the lot of the club house. Nails rolls her eyes as she sees jade approach.
" what are you doing here? You have no business here anymore"
' I do actually...my old man"
"old man?"
Hank appears at his wife's side. " Yeah she's my old lady" he pulls Jade's hand up flashing the wedding rings adorning them.
Hollers erupt around them from the MC.
" You sly old dog... congratulations..." Bishop says bro hugging Hank.
" you do know you gotta go through this all again for the MCs sake right?" Gilly adds
"yep.... I love you Hank Loza....my first and only choice"
" For real though.. where's my Mac and cheese?"
Holy moly I let this run on but for real Hank needs love too!

She don't deserve you
I've been hanging around the club for a while and I know all the guys. I've had a thing for Hank for a while but he seems to have a thing for one of the other girls. I look at her and she's been hooking up with Angel. She's pretty and has a perfect figure and then there's me. I'm five feet tall and am a bit of a big girl. I know Hank would never go for me so I don't even approach him.
I'm working around the clubhouse and I hear Hank and Nails in the bathroom and she's telling him that she's pregnant and the father isn't in the picture. Then I hear him tell her he's all in. I lower my head and slip out of the clubhouse. Walking out to my car to leave, Gilly stops me. "You okay Mia?" he asks. "Yeah. Just heading out. See you later." I tell him before slipping past him and driving out of the lot.
It's Friday night and I'm in the clubhouse and see Hank sitting over to the side. Angel walks over to Nails and announces that not only are they having a kid but they are getting married. I look at Hank and see the heartbroken look in his eyes. I walk over to the bar, where he's sitting, looking down at his beer and order a couple of shots. "Take a shot with me Hank." I say. He looks at me and nods before taking one of the shots in front of us. We click them together and down the shots. A few shots later, we see the guys sitting around the table and the newest patch member, takes out his gun and shoots himself. I jump at the shot and Hank pulls me close to him and shields me from the scene.
A little later, we are all standing outside while the medics remove Steve's body and I am still standing close to Hank. He looks over and sees Nails and Angel snuggled up and she looks at him and he just walks back into the clubhouse. I follow him and he heads towards the dorms. As he gets inside his dorm and goes to close the door, I stop it. He just looks at me. "You don't need to be alone." I tell him and he looks down at his feet. "Use me." I tell him and he looks at me confused. "You need a distraction from her, from Steve. Use me." I tell him and he shakes his head no. I grab both sides of his kutte and pull him closer to me. Putting one of my hands behind his neck as his hands find my hips I whisper "I got you." before kissing his lips softly and he returns the kiss.
He pulls me further inside the dorm and closes the door before picking me up and carrying me to his bed. Laying me down, we start to shed clothes in between kisses before he enters me and spends the rest of the night inside me. As we both come down from our high, I hear his breathing even out and I slip of the bed, dress and slip out the door.
The next day, I am in the clubhouse and cleaning the bar when Hank walks in. He walks over to the bar and sits down. I place a beer in front of him and go on cleaning but he comes behind the bar and stops me. I look up at him and he pulls me close and just holds me for a minute. "Thank you." he tells me. I pull away from him and look away before whispering "She doesn't deserve you." He takes my hand and pulls me from behind the bar and over to one of the couches. Pulling me into his lap, he kisses me softly and that's how we spend the next little bit.
I get up and head to the bar to get him another beer when Nails walks up. "Are you and Hank together?" she asks. "No. We're just hanging out." I tell her. "Looks like you're together to me." she says. I shake my head and say "I'm just a distraction to him. Nothing more." I tell her before walking back over to Hank. "I gotta get back to work." I tell him and he nods.
I walk behind the bar and finish out my shift and head to my car. Leaning against my car is Hank and as I walk up, he holds out his hand and I take it. "You want to follow me to mine?" I ask and he shakes his head. "No. I do want to talk though." he says. I take a deep breath, waiting to be told what we did was a mistake. "Why did you come to me last night?" he asks. "You needed a distraction." I tell him as I move to unlock my car. "The real reason." he says. I look down at the keys in my hand and don't turn back to face him and say "I've been into you for a while but knew you'd never go for me and I thought if I offered myself up as a distraction for you that I could at least let myself believe I was the one you were thinking about even if it was just for a night." I tell him. I feel his arms wrap around me from behind and he pulls me back into him. I feel his breath by my ear and he says "You're not a distraction and I was thinking about you." He turns me to face him and kisses me softly. "I want you to do something for me." he says and I nod. "I want you to go somewhere with me tomorrow evening." he says. "Okay. Where are we going?" I ask and still won't completely meet his eyes. "To dinner at my mom's." he says and I look at him shocked. "When I needed someone, you were there. I'm not letting that go. We can take things a day at a time but I'm in this." he tells me. "I'm in this too Hank." I tell him before he kisses me softly.
The next evening, we are sitting at the table with his mom and apparently he told her about Nails and me being there for him. He gets up to take our plates to the kitchen and she says "Thank you." I look at her confused and she says "For being so good to my son." I look down at my hands and say "He's good to me too Maria." She places her hand on mine and says "You two are good for each other." and I smile. Hank walks back in with coffee for the three of us and as he sits back next to me, I look at him and he kisses me softly as his mom just smiles at us.

The beginning
Bishop Losa x Reader
Like always: sorry for my bad English.
Gif by: sonsofeorl
The bicycle was in parts, you just hoped all parts were there. You brushed your hair back from your sweaty forehead and took another look. The bicycyle was your only hope of getting out of this shithole. An idyllic holiday on your father's farm was supposed to be the beginning of a new life. You were glad you were going to spend some time with your father. And you were hoping to recover a little from the toxic relationship you'd been in for the last 7 years. 7 years of a wasted life.
But here in Southern Cali, nothing was as it was supposed to be. The farm was no longer a farm, but a house in the middle of the great semi-desert hills, and it was a house in need of a lot of renovation. Southern California was no paradise either, but a sunburned dusty place. And as soon as you arrived, your father left you the keys to his old truck, muttered some words, something between goodbye and apology, got on his motorcycle and drove off into the blue, which was really not a blue, but a dusty road ahead.
You didnât have much to do. You should be looking for a job, but first, you wanted to get some rest. And after cleaning the old house, making the beds where you planted tomatoes and peppers, and in the boxes on the terrace, herbs, you found resting is boring. Especially as the phone coverage was really poor and certainly didn't allow you to watch Netflix. So the next day you packed a small bag, grabbed a map and decided to make a trip to the ocean. The truck made strange sound. It stated somehow strangly, jerked and stalled. Gentle speech, swearing and kicking did little. It was still working 3 days before when you went shopping in Santo Padre and everything seemed fine. But now it wouldn't move.
You returned home and realised that all you had left was a hammock on the terrace and admiring the blue sky. An idyllic holiday in the middle of nowhere.
After a few days of lying in a hammock, you understood that, yes, it was nice, but you also had to eat. And even if the fasting is good for your figure, it cannot go on indefinitely. You didn't really know who to call. Anyway, the phone most of the time didn't want to connect. You considered walking towards the city, but Santo Padre was too far to walk. And then you remembered that you saw a bicycle in the shack. You went to inspect it and you quickly realised that these were bicycle parts rather than a bicycl. But you dragged everything outside the house and decided to try to put it back together. There was not a single cloud in the sky. It was hot.
You brushed your hair off your sweaty forehead. And then you heard the whirr of a motorcycle. Motorcycles - you corrected yourself while still leaning over the bicycle. You were a little relieved that your father was coming back and would take care of the truck. The sun was shining straight into your eyes, so you shielded them with your hand and looked out the way. Two motorcycles were coming along, but it wasn't until they got closer that you realised that neither looked like your father's. Neither of the motorcyclists was your father. You bent down and discreetly picked up the wrench you were using to assemble the bike.
They stopped two metres in front of you and removed their helmets. You involuntarily stepped back without letting go of the wrench.
The one with a smaller posture and a moustache smiled and as he did so his whole face lit up.
- Are you Taza's daughter? We came to check on you.
You didn't say a word because you didn't know what was going on. And who was Taza?
The other, taller, with a round, nice face and hands tattooed up to his wrists noticed your confusion.
- We're friends of Che. I'm Hank and this is Bishop - he pointed at the other guy. - Let me see what you have got here.
He walked over to the bike parts and before you knew it he took the wrench out of your hand.
He looked at the parts and put the frame of the bike upright.
- Let me help you here.
- Che is not at home. - you murmured.
The other one smiled.
- We know he isn't. He asked us to stop by and see if you were okay. Let's go inside. - He passed you by and entered the house. You followed him in. The man opened the fridge. It was clearly not his first time here. He looked inside.
- itâs empty. Not even a beer.
- I can make tea. Or give you water, if you like.
- Tea? - he laughed again.
He took a glass and poured himself some water from the tap. He sat down at the table. You leaned against the kitchen table. Now you could look at him. He was quite a bit younger than your father. He had a moustache that quite suited him, a very nice smile and warm eyes. On the cut he wore he had similar stripes as your father. Now you noticed it. Only where your father had âVicepresidenteâ, and that one had âPresidenteâ. âInterestingâ - you said to yourself. He had a nice smile, but you also saw his muscular hands and knew it was better not to get in his way. Just like the one who stayed outside. That one looked a bit like a wrestler.
- Are you all right, sweetheart? - He looked at you until you blushed. You were wearing a tiny blouse that you had put on to repair your bicycle and quite short trousers. You were sweaty and dusty, but he was looking at you with... admiration?
You didn't really know what to say, so you just wrapped yourself in the scarf that was lying on the back of the kitchen chair and poured yourself some water too.
- It's not going to work, princesa - you heard Hank's voice. - One of the wheels is missing a hub. And the brakes are missing too. Unless you have them somewhere.
- I don't have any - you sighed.
- Why do you need a bicycle, where would you like to go in this heat?
- I need groceries.
- Shopping? And you know that the nearest store is 30 miles away.
- I have no choice. The truck broke down.
- Broke down? Then why didn't you tell me right away?
- When was the last time you ate? - Bishop was concerned and threw a meaningfully look at the fridge.
- Jesus christ, girl. - Hank just sighed.
- Let's go - Bishop moved to the door. - Come on, you need to be fed.
- I need to get changed. - The conversation about food finally convinced you to trust them.
An hour later you were finishing your burger at the diner and talking to Bishop like you'd known him for ten years. Hank left you by the dfiner alone with Bishop. And it didn't bother you at all. Bishop wanted to order you some more dessert, but that was too much.
- We'll go to the club now and figure out what to do with your truck.
- I need to do some groceries.
- Don't worry about it, querida. - Bishop put his arm around you and led you toward his motorcycle. And smiled to you. You suddenly felt as safe as never before. And that's when you realized that despite thousands of promises that it would never happen to you again, it did.
You fell in love.

Princess and Creeper
Santo Padre. The home of Mayans MC or what you call...tios and papa. You were Tranqâs daughter and the princess among the rough and tumble crew even though they were soft with you. You tried to help them out as much as you can which led to you having to help out a doctor from across the border to patch up any major injuries and to patch up any small ones at the clubhouse. There was one rule for you though. No dating any Mayan from any charter. At first, you were fine with it until an LA native came rolling up and started hanging with the Mayans and later being an official one. Neron âCreeperâ Vargas was not like any man that you have met in Santo Padre, well because, for one, he was the one that knew the least amount of spanish in the crew so you tried to help him out with the little spanish that you knew.
You only understood the language, but didnât really know how to speak so it led to study sessions together and trying to learn the language since your father had been so busy with the club to help you out. The time has passed and you find yourself completely head over heels for the non spanish speaker. It had become too much that you had to let someone know and your best friend was your dad and you couldnât keep anything from him.
âHey, dad,â you shuffled into his room, âcan I tell you something?â
âOf course, mija,â he sat on the edge of the bed and patted the seat next to him, âcâmere,â
You sat on the bed and played with your hands, âso, you know how you said that I canât date anybody thatâs a Mayan? I was fine with that rule until someone came in and joined,â
Tranq stood up, âwho? Who is it?â
You put your hands up, âdo not get mad when I tell you, ok?â your father glared at you before sighing with a nod, âit may or may not be Creeper,â
âCreeper?â Tranq lifted his eyebrows in surprise, âreally?â you nodded, âok, ummmm, I mean as long as it isnât one of those putos that you call best friends,â
You laughed, âAngel, Coco, EZ, and Gilly are too much like me for me to actually date them, letâs be real here,â Tranq nodded in confirmation, âso does that mean if things get to a dating phase you would be ok with it? I donât think it will, but hypothetically if it happens?â
âYeah. I would rather him than the putos, El Presidente, or Taza,â
You let out a sigh, âOk. Well, I donât know what to do with this like I actually donât know what to do. You know I only really had one boyfriend and that was back in high school,â
âIâm your dad. I am not about to help you get together with a man, if it were my choice you would be an asexual who hates everyone except for me,â Tranq shrugged.
âYou are literally no help,â you groaned, âIâm heading over to EZâs and asking him,â Tranq nodded so you left his room and called EZ while putting your shoes on.
âWhat do you want?â EZ groaned.
âIâm coming over. I need to ask you something,â You left the house as EZ agreed and hung up.
A short drive later, you were in the trailer with EZ. âOk, emergency meeting about my feelings for Creeper and what to do to see if he likes me back,â
âYour dad is going to kill you and him,â EZ said
âNo heâs not. I told him I had feelings and he said as long as itâs not you or the other three dumbasses,â
EZ put his hand over his heart, âouch, but ok. I say you just go up to him and say it,â
Unbeknownst to you two, Creeper heard your voices and decided to stay around to listen to what you were saying. âHow the fuck do you expect me to say that! âHey, Creeper. I fucking like you,â dude, he will definitely laugh in my face!â A smile had slowly made its way to his face.
âYes!â Ez raised his arms up.
Creeper rolled his eyes and decided to knock on the door as the two of you had gone quiet and EZ opened the door. âHey, Creep. I just realized that I had to go help my dad out at his shop. Bye,â EZ looked back at you with a look to tell him as your eyes widened and shook your head.
âOk, Boy Scout. Iâm going to talk to (Y/N),â EZ left as Creeper walked in, âhey, (y/n),â
âHi,â you put your hands behind your back and shuffled your feet, âwhatâs up?â
âOh, nothing. I just wanted to do something really quick,â Creeper walked closer to you as your eyes widened, âcan I kiss you?â You wordlessly nodded as his hands were laid on the sides of your neck. His head leaned down closer to you and the anticipation was too much so you went on your toes and wrapped your arms around his neck to bring him closer to the kiss. When you guys pulled away to take a breath, both of your cheeks were burning red.
âLet me take you on a date,â Creeper said, âright now,â
âOk,â the two of you left hand in hand as you spotted EZ next to his motorcycle with a smirk and a wink towards you as you lifted your middle finger at him. The night progressed into the best night of your life and you happily told your dad that you were now dating Creeper.

A/N: Hey everyone! Thank you for all the love âșïž Hereâs part one â€ïž I hope you all enjoy. Again if you want to be added to the tag list for this story just let me know and I will do so!
Monica followed behind Maddie as she ran to her grandpa jumping into Hankâs arms as she did every time she greeted her grandpa. She giggled as he threw her over his shoulder tickling her. Monica smiled watching them as she caught up to the two.
âHey kid,â Hank greeted his daughter, pulling her in for a kiss to her temple just as he had done since she was a little girl. âHow are my two favorite girls doing?â
âWeâre good.â Monica smiled back at him. âSomeone couldnât wait to see her grandpa.â She teased giving her daughter a tickle as well resulting in a shriek. âAre you sure itâs okay for me to leave her here for a little while today?â
âOf course it is.â Hank reassured Monica. âWe could use an extra hand today anyways.â
âHey, I thought I heard the little squeals of our little gremlin.â Angel teased coming out of the clubhouse.
âAngel! Iâm not a gremlin!â Maddie giggled, wiggling out of Hankâs arms to run over to Angel playfully swatting at him.
Maddie ruled here at the clubhouse and scrapyard. She had all the Mayan men wrapped around her little finger and she knew it. She may not have her father exactly in her life but all the guys made up for that.
âChucky made cookies.â Angel told Maddie getting her to settle down on her attack. He chuckled ruffling her hair before extending his hand out. âHow about we go sneak a few.â
âOh yes!â She beamed taking his hand. âBye Momma!â She called back to Monica before skipping off into the clubhouse with Angel in tow.
Monica laughed watching the two. Once they disappeared inside she turned back to her father. âCall me if you need anything.â Monica told him. âAnd please, please donât let her have everything she wants.â
âOkay, I promise, but I canât make any promises for the other guys.â Hank chuckled as Monica gave him âthatâ look. The very same look her mother used to give him all the time before she passed. Hank held his hands up. âOkay, Iâll make sure they get the same message.â
âThank you Dad.â Monica kissed his cheek. âI will only be gone for a couple of hours.â
âJust take as long as you need. We can handle it."
Angel closed the door behind them as he and Maddie entered the clubhouse.
âGood morning Coco and Riz.â Maddie sang as she entered with Angel. âHow are you this lovely morning?â
The men smiled at the lively young girl who lit up their lives. âWeâre doing fantastic.â Riz smiled at her. âAnd how is our Maddie doing?â
âAmazing! Angel told me Chucky has cookies!â
âI sure do!â Chucky exclaimed coming out of the kitchen carrying a tray of cookies. âDo you want chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin?â
Maddie held her chin thinking about her decision for a minute. âHow about both!â
Coco smiled sitting back as he took a swig of his beer. Maddie was lucky. She was the spitting image of her mother, nothing like him, at least nothing noticeable.
A little over five years ago he and Monica had a sort of friends with benefits relationship. No one knew and that's how they preferred it. Monica had just gotten out of a relationship and needed a rebound and Coco welcomed the company in his bed. It was simple, no strings attached.
But then Monica found out she was pregnant. She decided she was going to keep the baby and they both came to the agreement that it was best if he wasnât involved in her life, at least not as her father.
In the long run Coco felt it was best to be involved as little as possible in his childrenâs lives. Monica was different from his other baby mamaâs though. She was family, a part of the club. He couldnât just avoid her and Maddie and he couldnât ask her to leave. They made their odd situation work.
All that really mattered was their arrangement worked for them. She was a great mother and the club helped her raise Maddie. Coco got to watch his child grow without the fear of fucking up her life.
It was a win win all around.
Maddie sat at the bar with her plate of cookies. Her feet dangled off the stool as she kicked them back and forth. "Can I have some milk, please?" Maddie asked through a mouthful of cookie.
"I'll get it." Coco said as he was heading towards the kitchen anyways.
Angel reached for the other cookie on Maddie's plate which resulted in her slapping his hand away. He chuckled, ruffling her hair as he reached over to grab his own cookie. He loved picking on his little gremlin.
Maddie glared at him as she took another bite of her cookie. Her scowl immediately turned into a smile as wide as her tiny face when Coco set the glass of milk down in front of her.
"Thank you Coco!" She grabbed the cup guzzling the milk in record time.
"Wow, you must be thirsty." Coco commented as he watched her set the now empty cup down.
"So thirsty." She sighed, wiping his mouth. "Can I have some more please?"
Coco chuckled, taking her cup to get her some more milk. "Of course princesa."
****
Monica set the last of the bags in the back of her suv before shutting the door. One of her best friends Alex had come with her to shop for Maddie's birthday party. She hadn't stopped talking up this guy who was a friend of a friend who she said would be a great match for Monica.
"I'm just saying you aren't getting any younger Monica. Would it really be so bad to go on one date with him?"
Monica crossed her arms. "You know how I feel about blind dates."
"Just give him a chance at least." Alex wasn't going to back down on this. "You're free Friday aren't you? Maddie is already going to be at your father's for the night. You might as well take advantage of the night off."
"My definition of taking advantage of my night off is catching up on my shows and having one too many glasses of wine."
"I get it, I do. Dating isn't exactly the easiest thing when you're a single mother but that doesn't mean you just give up entirely." Alex just wanted Monica to take a chance.
Monica knew Alex understood. They both were in the same boat. Monica met Alex in a single parents group and instantly became great friends with her. What was even better was their children got along as well so play dates were a breeze.
"I just don't think I'm ready for another guy to get scared off the minute I mention Maddie." It's not that she hadn't tried dating after Maddie was born.
"You don't have to worry about that with Luke. He already knows about Maddie. I can tell you anything you want to know about him too, that way you feel prepared."
"I don't know Alex." Monica sighed leaning against her car. "It's been a long time since I've had any dates."
Alex scratched the back at her neck as she looked down. She knew Monica would not be happy with what she was about to say. "I may have... kind of already told him you were in." Alex gave Monica a half smile hoping to lighten the blow of her confession.
"You're kidding me right?"
"You and I both know you'd never go through with it on your own. I'm just trying to help give you a nudge in the right direction.â Alex looked at her pleading, âCome on Mon, just give him a chance."
Monica ran her hands over her face groaning. Peaking out of her fingers she saw Alex standing there with the same pleading look she gave her still upon her face. Fine, she would do this, if only to put an end to this topic. "Fine. I will give him a chance, for you."
"Great!" Alex grabbed her hand pulling her to the front of the car. "I will give you all the details on the way back to my place."
Having just dropped Alex off Monica was finally back at the scrapyard to pick up Maddie. Alex gave her an overwhelming amount of detail for Friday's date. She was feeling a bit overwhelmed but tried to push the anxiety to the back of her mind for now. She couldn't wait to see her baby girl, she always managed to make her feel better.
Maddie picked her head up from where she was watching Creeper work on his bike and caught Monica walking into the yard heading her way.
"Momma!" She shot up leaving Creeper there as she ran for her.
"Oh my, what happened to your dress baby?" Monica crouched down eyeing the new makeshift dress Maddie was wearing out of one of the Romero work shirts.
"I got a new one! Isn't it pretty?" Maddie twirled around showing off her outfit.
Creeper wiped his hands on his jeans as he walked over to the two. "Someone found a mud puddle." He said ruffling Maddie's hair.
"Of course she did. I knew I should have packed a spare change of clothes."
"She's just like another little girl I remember always playing in the mud and getting into trouble." Bishop commented grinning as he stood up from the picnic table putting out his cigarette.
Watching Maddie grow was like getting a glimpse in the past to the days when Monica was running around the clubhouse carefree. After Madison, Monica's mother passed away, the club stepped up to help raise her along with Vicky and the girls just as they had done now for Monica with Maddie.
They do say it takes a village and there was no better village than that of the club.
âMe? Getting into trouble?â Monica played innocent smiling, âNever.â
Creeper pulled Monica into a side hug giving her a kiss on the head playfully. âDefinitely not our sweet angel.â He chuckled. âMaddie must get that from her father.â He reached down ruffling her hair again.
Maddie ducked out from under his hand. âMy father?â She asked looking up at the three adults.
âShit,â Creeper muttered under his breath realizing he fucked up. âSorry.â He mouthed over to Monica who just gave him a smile reassuring him that it was alright and she wasnât upset.
She knew eventually the father subject would come up.
âHey thatâs a bad word!â Maddie scolded Creeper forgetting all about her father for the moment. âYou owe a quarter to the jar!â
Ever since Maddie uttered her very first curse word which then turned into her having a very bad potty mouth, maybe even worse than them, the guys realized they needed to watch their language better, at least when Maddie was around. To do so they set up a swear jar that at the end of each month the money would go towards a special treat for Maddie.
âYou heard the boss, cough it up.â Bishop motioned towards the clubhouse where the jar was located. Creeper made his exit heading towards the clubhouse to deposit his fee.
Monica held her hand out to Maddie. It was getting late and they needed to be heading out. âAlright, itâs getting late. Are you ready to go home now?â
âDo we have to?â Maddie pouted jutting her bottom lip out as the tears threatened to pool in her eyes. She wasnât ready to go, the clubhouse was her favorite place. âCanât I stay a little longer and go home with grandpa?â
Monica crouched down cupping her little face in her hand. âNot tonight baby, youâre staying with grandpa on Friday night remember?â
âYeah.â She sighed, rubbing her eye with her little fist. Monica knew it didnât help that she was tired.
Straightening up Monica took Maddieâs hand in hers. âCome on, weâll see everyone again tomorrow Iâm sure.â
âGoodnight princesa,â Bishop bent over giving her a hug. âYou be good for your Momma okay?â
âOkay.â Maddie gave him a smile. âGoodnight Bishop.â
âIâll bring the shirt back tomorrow.â Monica told Bishop.
âDonât worry about it.â They had plenty of shirts around the yard. They werenât going to miss it. âShe can keep it.â
Maddieâs smile grew as she began playing with her new dress again, twisting back and forth so it would flow around her.
âThank you.â Monica gave Bishop a quick hug before they left. âGoodnight Bishop.â
âGoodnight.â
Later that night after dinner, bath, and a bedtime story, Monica snuggled close to Maddie in her small bed. She tucked her in making sure she was snug and handed her her favorite stuffed unicorn.
âGoodnight my love.â Monica murmured, kissing Maddieâs head. âSweet dreams.â
Maddie hugged her unicorn tighter as she prepared to uttered the words Monica had been dreading since she was born. âMomma, where is my father? How come I donât have a daddy?â
âWhat do you mean baby?â Monica turned so she could face her better. She had a feeling this was coming tonight but she had hoped Creeperâs statement would be forgotten by now.
It wasnât just Creeper that had Maddieâs mind on her father but also that of all the other kids she saw who all seemed to have a father but her. âSarah from the park said that everyone has a daddy and Oliverâs daddy doesnât live with his mommy but he still goes to see him on the weekends.â Oliver was Alex's son and Maddieâs best friend. âHow come I donât get to go see my daddy? Where is he?â
Monica sighed. She knew this would come some day but she wasnât prepared to have this talk right now. The biggest thing she had learned as a parent was that most things she couldnât prepare for.
Monica ran her hand through Maddieâs soft dark hair soothingly. âSarah is right everyone does have a daddy but not everyoneâs daddyâs are a part of their lives.â
âHow come mine isnât in mine?â Maddie looked into Monicaâs eyes awaiting the answer to her question.
âYour daddy and I decided together that things would be better this way.â Monica said carefully.
âDid he not love me?â Maddieâs eyes began to well with tears breaking Monicaâs heart.
âOh baby, of course he loves you. He loves you so much that he did one of the hardest things a person can do, he put you first." Monica pulled Maddie close holding her tight. "You know even though he isn't here, he's always with you."
"How?" Maddie looked up at her.
"It's kind of like how grandma is always with us." She explained.
Maddie didn't have the chance to meet her grandma so Monica made it a point to keep her alive through stories not only for herself but for her daughter as well. She didn't remember much of her mother but she would recall everything she did to Maddie and share the stories others had told her through the years as well.
Monica wanted her to know about the woman she was named after. She wanted her daughter to know her grandmother.
"In our hearts?"
"Exactly." Monica smiled down at her. "He's a part of you and always will be. Just like grandma is a part of me and just as much a part of you even though you never met her. You may not have a daddy like everyone else but thatâs okay because all that matters is that you are so so loved and always will be.â

Lara slowly trudged up the sidewalk that led to the driveway of Bishopâs house. The sun was rising and the morning dew dripped off the grass at an even slower pace than Lara at that moment. Turning towards the house she stood for a moment staring at it, wondering how she was going to maneuver sneaking in.Â
The clothes she wore from the previous night were still hanging off her body, but just a bit more disheveled. Thatâs what happened when you stayed out all night at some dive bar though. As well as when youâre in and out of any room with a working lock in said dive bar, fooling around with some random stranger after having a series of traumatic events in your life.Â
Without thinking a second more, Lara had her plan perfected. Bishop was likely asleep on the couch and sheâd just move quickly through the door and make her way to the bathroom, playing it as though she was up early to conquer the day.Â
She did a brief look at herself in the rearview mirror of Bishopâs truck on the off chance he woke up once she was in the house. Her natural curls were tangled within the curves of one another and the frizz was growing by the second in the Santo Padre humidity. Her lips were completely clean of any gloss, stain, or chapstick and they definitely were a little more plump from the activity they saw. Her neck had smears of her foundation that was intended to cover the red marks but was now only doing about half of that. She regretted not putting powder on top to really secure the makeup but there was nothing to do about it now. Lara began to quickly adjust herself, wishing she had carried a purse with some essentials, something that would help her wipe the day old mascara that had slightly smeared on her face or a face spray to liven her up, but she worked with what she could in the small side mirror before giving up and making her way towards the front door.Â
She placed her hand on the doorknob and took one last deep breath before holding it in as the door creaked open. Quickly maneuvering around the door, she pressed her left hand flat to it, the right still on the handle and as she turned to shut it, she positioned her body practically flush against the oak to hush the sound of it closing. As this happened, she heard the clink of a glass in the kitchen. Her head snapped immediately to see her father, hand on a coffee mug and sitting alone at the kitchen table.Â
The breath she was holding in let out as she knew she had been made. She took getting caught with pride as she strutted into the kitchen right by her father as if nothing happened and this was completely normal. Her eye caught the large tattoo on Bishopâs bicep that wasnât there two years ago, but now with him sitting in an undershirt under the harsh kitchen light, was impossible to miss. Not to mention that the tattoo was her little brotherâs face and for a moment when she saw it she felt her heart ache a little but not long enough to offer compassion to the man, if anything this fueled her attitude more.Â
âNice tattoo,â the little sass in her tone didnât go unnoticed by the man as she went to the fridge to grab a carton of milk.Â
Bishopâs eyebrows raised and he nodded briefly as he accepted this was how this conversation was going to go.
âWhere were you last night?â He asked her, ignoring the tattoo comment.Â
âWent and got a drink,â she shrugged, pouring a cup of coffee. Still standing at the counter behind him so both their backs were facing each other.Â
âA heads up would have been nice,â he turned his head to look at her, not wanting to be demanding but trying to establish some ground rules.Â
Lara laughed for a moment and turned to him now leaning against the counter.Â
âHey Dad, decided to go on a little bender by myself, Iâll call you if you have to come and bury any bodies.â She smiled sneeringly as she took a sip of her coffee.Â
Bishop continued to shake his head until his voice snapped.Â
âYou think this shit is fuckinâ funny?â He stood up now, the chair screeching against the tile as it pushed back quickly.Â
Lara stopped chuckling and sunk down as the man raised his voice. Bishop saw the change in demeanor in the girl and immediately realized how scarred his daughter actually was.Â
He brought his voice back down and looked around the kitchen taking a deep breath.Â
âYou canât be doinâ this shit, Lara.â He said with more of a softer tone. âAfter what happened not even two nights ago, and you just go up and missing on me. You know who those people are? They arenât people you want coming after you.â
Lara opened her mouth and thought to argue but stopped, she knew there was no point to argue. Their clashing personalities is what got them into this mess years ago when she left.Â
âWhy do you think I called you. I knew youâd know how to handle the fuckinâ disaster I got myself into.â Her voice cracked as the tears formed in her eyes.Â
âThose bikers arenât like me and Hank, they follow no code, theyâre all about money, power, and self.â He said hoping sheâd understand.Â
âSo now what? I go into hiding for the rest of my life, staying two steps ahead of The Calaveras.â She placed the mug in the sink, now worried and concerned. She hadnât given any thought to what was going to happen next and now the thoughts were overflowing her brain.Â
âNo. I handled it. No oneâs ever going to know it was you. For all they know, you left a month ago. They have a laundry list of people who could have done this as an act of revenge.â Bishop explained knowing he purposely dropped a reaper pin that used to sit proudly on someoneâs kutte but now had a home at Jesseâs house.Â
âYou just left the body there?â Lara was now alert and oriented 10x more than she was previously.Â
âAre you crazy? Hank and I handled it.âÂ
Lara took a moment to be relieved. The two sat in the heavy silence of the room.Â
âIâm sorry about not coming home last night, Iâm just used to making decisions on my own.â
âI get that.â Bishop answered, nodding his head. âYou know me, I donât need play by plays or tracking devices. Just wanna know youâre all good.âÂ
Lara nodded. âNote taken.âÂ
âIâm gonna head down to the clubhouse, let me know if you need anything and Iâll bring it back.â Bishop threw on his button up that was draped over the kitchen chair and then moved to the hooks near the front door where his kutte hung.Â
âLet me come with you,â She grabbed his coffee mug and put it in the sink before taking a couple steps toward him.Â
âAbsolutely not. Youâre not even going to be staying here long.â Bishop shook his head as he adjusted the kutte on his shoulders.
âDonât.â Lara said firmly. âDonât do this again. Itâs just going to be an exact repeat of what happened two years ago.âÂ
She hoped the words stung him. Not because she wanted to hurt him, but because she wanted him to see the full picture.
âIt's not safe here, never has been,â he said with pain in his eyes. âI shouldâve never brought any of you here. And thatâs something you said to me, so you know itâs true.â There was just as much pain in his tone as Laraâs.Â
âClearly it's not safe where I end up either.âÂ
Her point was crystal clear but yet Bishop had no response. He just moved towards the girl and kissed her forehead.Â
âThere's movies and shit in the tv stand, one of the guys got me one of those playstation things if you wanted to hook it up,â he said as he exited the door leaving no moment for Lara to say anything more.
Lara stood in the entryway of the house, feeling empty, abandoned, and hollow. She picked her phone up and moved back into the kitchen and made her way to the fridge where Frankieâs number was pinned up. Something the girl must've done when she was down here visiting once.Â
The phone rang a couple times before there was a cheery greeting at the other end.Â
âYou got time to come to Santo Padre today?â Lara asked, skipping pleasantries and jumping straight to the point.
âLucky for you, Iâm already here, came down with Hank not long after you left. Iâm at his place now but I can be at Bishopâs in 30?â The girl knew immediately who was on the phone.Â
âMeet me in the town square? I got a couple errands I want to run.â Lara said, grabbing her bag so she could begin her walk.Â
âSure, see you in 30.âÂ
ââââ
âSo your errands were to apply for a job?â Frankie said as she caught up to the girl who had a bunch of applications in her hands.Â
âNeed money,â she shrugged as Frankie snatched the papers from her hands to look at the places she was planning to apply at.Â
âNope. Come on.â Frankie turned the girl around and brought her to her Honda coup.Â
The ride was silent. Lara was trusting of the girl, so wherever they were going she knew there was purpose.Â
They pulled up to another main strip, but this one was nicer. No trash, no graffiti, and Lara knew it all too well. The memories flooded back to her like they happened yesterday. Her eyes fell on the municipal building and the image of the family she once was a part of took her away from real life for a moment.
âOne, two, three, JUMP!â Antonia and Bishopâs voices boomed with laughs as they walked down the municipal stairs with Aiden clinging to their hands as they lifted him up with every step. Lara smiled as she headed down the stairs alongside them picking up her pace so she reached the bottom before them.Â
âFeeling left out?â Bishop laughed as his arm swung around the girlâs shoulder and brought the girl close to him as they walked to the truck.Â
âYouâre annoying,â she laughed, pushing him off her which earned a laugh from Antonia.Â
âHey, if Iâm annoying to you that just means Iâm playing my role as a father correctly.â he smiled and unlocked the truck.Â
âCan we get ice cream?â Aidenâs voice yelled before they got into the truck.Â
Lara picked the boy up and held him in her arms. âPleaaaaasseeeeeâ she rested her head against her little brotherâs and they both poked out their bottom lip.Â
âYour mom had a long day at work, buddy,â Bishopâs hand extended out to the little boy's face.
âOkay, we can drop Antonia off and youâll stay with her and Iâll take him to get ice cream.â Lara smiled in hopes to get the car.Â
âNice try.â Antonia smiled from the passenger seat of the vehicle. âI could go for ice cream,â she looked at Bishop and shrugged.Â
âAlright, family trip.â Bishop grinned.Â
Lara was taken out from her memory when Frankie put the car in park.Â
âRight there.â Frankie pointed at the two story restaurant.Â
âRight what?â Lara said, turning to look where her finger pointed.Â
âThatâs where youâre going to work. What youâd make in a week at any of those placesâ Frankie nodded to the stack of paper on Laraâs lap. âYouâd make in a day at this place.âÂ
Lara looked out the windshield at the lavish restaurant that read âThe Villaâ in the most elegant script font. The golden pillars held up the upper half of the restaurant and the smooth jazz that was playing from the entrance could be heard through the open windows of the car just slightly over the white noise of the fountain that sat in the courtyard where the outdoor tables were.Â
Just from looking at the place, Lara knew she was right.Â
âAnd how am I getting here on the daily?â Lara asked.Â
âBishop can get you a car in an hour, easily.â Frankie frowned as they walked up to the restaurant so Lara could get a look.Â
âIf it was up to Bishop, Iâd be in another town in an hour.â Lara sighed.Â
âAhhhhhh, I see. Look, if you tell him youâre gonna stay around for a bit, stay low and just work here, Bish isnât gonna argue.â She explained.Â
âThe Bishop you and I know are very different.â Lara smiled. âBut honestly seeing how heâs been living? He needs help. He needs me here. Probably just as much as I need him.â Lara realized there was no point in arguing it. The two Losasâ needed some TLC in their life and some father-daughter bonding might be just the solution for both of them. âAlright. Let me apply.â She brought herself to enter the building.Â
The inside of the restaurant was even fancier than expected, and a gust of a cool breeze hit Lara as the ceiling fans in the restaurant slowly spun around. Waiters bustled around and were delivering plates that looked like they had been created on the food network to tables with people who looked like they would never be caught dead watching the food network. Some tables occupied families that looked more normal compared to the suits that occupied the other half of the eatery.Â
Lara stood at the podium waiting for someone to take notice of her. Frankie was outside across the street waiting on her phone. This gave Lara a few extra minutes to take in the richness of it all.Â
âHow can I help you?â A voice asked from the podium.
âI wanted to apply for a job, anything you guys have available, I can serve, wash, cook.â She laughed trying to be as charming as possible.Â
âWe actually could use a hostess.â The girl said looking over her shoulder at another waitress who was gathering utensils.Â
âTotally could.â She laughed as she dismissed herself to seat the people that came in behind Lara.Â
âYou got any restaurant experience?â The waitress asked, now giving Lara her full attention.Â
âIf I tell you yes, will you hire me on the spot?â The girl grinned hoping that by being funny and pleasant the girl, who had to be about Laraâs age, would give her a chance.Â
âTo be honest you could say you murder people and Iâd still hire you because you seem like a people person and you have a smile that will bring people back in, which is all the owner wants.âÂ
Laraâs laugh after that comment was dripping in irony.
âOnly murdering Iâll be doing is killing all the guests with kindnessâ Lara could have cringed at her joke but truthfully sheâd say or do whatever to get a job right now. Being able to show Bishop she was serious about staying here was going to take some effort and already having a job lined up would be a huge help.Â
The two talked more about figuring out details of the job, like when to start, what her hourly rate would be, tips, dress code, just the basics. After about 15 minutes passed Lara was back outside making her way over to Frankie.Â
âYouâre looking at the new hostess of The Villaâ She said in her most fancy sarcastic voice.Â
âAmazingâ Frankie smiled and hooked her arm into Laraâs as they walked back towards the car. âYou mind if we stop at the club? I gotta pick up something.â
Lara looked over at the girl and didnât speak for a minute. She knew going to the club was going to get a reaction out of Bishop, and not a good one, but also she could use the opportunity to talk to him about staying.Â
âDonât worry, Iâll be your back up.â Frankie said as they approached the car.Â
______________
They pulled up to the clubhouse and immediately Lara was hit with a flood of emotions. This place was ultimately what broke the family she had and it gave her mixed feelings. She knew the way the club could suck every ounce of life out of you, but she also knew it was probably the only thing holding her father together.Â
âEverything ok?â Hank called out as he approached the vehicle and opened the car door for Frankie.Â
âYea, just came to say hello,â she smiled up at her Dad. âCoco here?â She stepped away from him looking into the scrapyard and then moving her eyes towards the clubhouse.Â
âHeâs in the office.â Hank pointed to the scrapyard station.Â
Frankie nodded and jogged over to the office door as Coco was exiting. Lara wasnât far behind her after she quickly greeted Hank.Â
âWhatchu doinâ here?â Coco smirked and nodded at Frankie as he made his way to one of the piles of metal on the yard.Â
âYou know Hank, canât go more than a week without seeing me.â She smiled and followed him. âThis is Lara.â She introduced her to the man. âLara, this is Coco.âÂ
Coco nodded at the girl and looked at Frankie. âThought we had enough strays make their way through here.â He joked as he wrote a couple things down on the paper and then finally turned to both of them giving his full attention.Â
âSheâs Bishopâs kid.â Frankie sported a shit eating grin as she saw Cocoâs face fall.Â
âFuck, my bad.â He offered the girl apologetic eyes. âJusâ a joke you know,â he got a little nervous.Â
âYou donât gotta apologize, seems like weâre all strays off the beaten path,âÂ
The man smiled, âOff the beaten path or following true destiny.â He began to get philosophical.Â
âDonât get him started on this shit, heâll have you thinking you smoked 20 blunts by the time heâs done explaining his Church of Coco meaning of life nonsense.â Frankie rolled her eyes.Â
âSays you, who hits me back with all that psychological textbook bullshit.â
They both stared at each other seriously for a minute before they both broke out in laughter. They had Lara fooled for a minute thinking that they were actually fighting.Â
Coco began moving back to the office and the girls followed behind them.Â
âI gotta ask you a favor.â Frankie said confidently.Â
âAinât nothing good ever come out of you asking me for a favor.â Coco turned around and got serious for a minute.Â
âRelax. It isnât that deep. Figured since Iâm down here early you could give me my monthly pick up.âÂ
âYouâre always asking for more than youâre payinâ for, you know that?â He leaned over the office table and pushed a few things around the drawer that was open and pulled out a bag that had about an eighth of weed in it. On the baggie itself it said âFrankieâ on it, all ready for her. Coco tossed the bag to her. âDonât tell me I ainât ever did nothinâ for you.âÂ
âYou literally are sent from the heavens, you know that.âÂ
âYea tell that to every other mother fucker in my life.â His lips curled to one side in a smile as he brought his cigarette to his mouth.Â
Both of the girls began to walk towards the clubhouse. Frankie put the weed in her back pocket while Lara tried to get her head on straight for her talk with Bishop. After a few seconds of getting overwhelmed and only having taken two steps towards the green building she decided sheâd just wing it. Quickly, before she gave it a thought more she turned to Frankie.Â
âSo you two like a thing?â
Frankie practically choked on her chuckle. âWho? Me and Coco?â She laughed some more. âYou smokinâ the shit I just bought?â Frankie joked. âNope, just friends. Heâs probably the closest person I got here. Everyone else is old as hell and too loyal to Hankâ which I get by the way.â She turned sideways to talk to the girl as they strolled to the stairs. âItâs just nice having someone whose around a lot that I donât gotta worry about always running to my dad.âÂ
âOh Frankie did this, Frankie was here, Frankie asked me for that.â She mocked what Lara had to believe was some of the other MC members. âCoco just gets it. Heâd never betray any of them, but he knows when to keep his mouth shut is all Iâm saying. Plus heâs smart. Heâs got a lot of knowledge about life.â Frankie explained. âHe brought in the prospect too, who's cool, but still too early on to trust him like I do Coco, you know.âÂ
âGotcha,â Lara nodded.Â
âWhy, you interested?â Frankie teased.Â
âI think I need to take a break from boys.â Lara sighed. âLook what happened to the last one.â She quipped.Â
âThe last one, hm?â Frankie said as they made their way up the rickety steps leading to the entrance of the club.Â
âWhatâs with that questioning look?â Lara frowned.Â
âBishop called Hank last night to ask if he saw you. So in turn, Hank asked me. Figured you were out and about, but that was like 1AM, so that also usually means you were out with company. And I know you werenât with an ex.â She teased back.Â
âYou should go to school to become a detective.â Lara joked. âYea I was with a guy. One night stand shit, nothing serious. Just needed to let off some steam.â Lara explained.Â
âLet off? Or Get off?â Frankie wiggled her eyebrows as they pushed through the clubhouse doors.Â
The smell hit Lara like a ton of bricks. The alcohol, the smoke, the smell of outlaws. It was so familiar and brought back so many feelings. Her gaze went from left to right, scanning over the chairs and then to the bar, and over to the pool table and then the big stained glass door. It was closed which meant someone was in there, and considering that some of the members were outside she knew it wasnât an official church meeting but her father was probably stuck behind the head seat.Â
Frankie moved over to the bar but before Lara could follow, the door slid open. Taza emerged and saw Lara immediately and his face looked ecstatic.Â
âLara.â He said with open arms and walked over to the girl and embraced her.Â
âHola, Taza.â She hugged the man, giving him a tight squeeze.Â
âYour dad isââ Just as he turned to look for Bishop he already appeared.Â
âRight here. And wondering what the hell youâre doing here.â Bishop said with a firm voice.Â
âIâll leave you two.â Taza said as his face filled with a pitying look before disappearing.Â
âHear me out, please.â She said, holding her hand up.Â
âThis better be fuckinâ good.â He mumbled.Â
âLet me stay here with you, youâre all alone in that house, itâs practically falling apart, inside and out. I can help out around keep the place looking livable, clean things up, and God forbid we spend a little company together. Would that be the worst thing?â
âWe can do that if youâre a couple towns over. You can come visit every few months or I can come to you.â Bishop argued.Â
âSo you can continue to live in a pit full of alcohol? No. I already got a really good job, Frankie helped me get it all arranged.â She pointed at the girl who was drinking a beer, she offered up a wave before she made her way over.Â
âUncle Bish, itâs all set up, sheâs going to be at her job more than sheâll be here, plus itâll give me someone to hang out with when I come home and thatâs also time spent away from here.â Frankie said, trying to convince the man.Â
âYou spend all your time here when youâre home.â Bishop frowned at his niece.Â
Lara gave Frankie a look as she raised her eyebrows, expressing that she was doing more harm than good.Â
âWell, if Laraâs here then maybe I wonât be.â She said and quickly brought the beer bottle to her mouth so she wouldnât dig herself any deeper.Â
Bishop managed to laugh. âYou thought this through didnât you?â He looked at Lara.Â
Lara nodded in hopes he was changing his mind.Â
As he began to speak, the door to the clubhouse opened up and Laraâs attention moved over to the commotion. The group of about 3 men walked in. She recognized the one man as Coco, and the other as Hank. The third man stood tall but she couldnât see his face yet but he looked recognizable. She frowned, hearing her father still going on in the background but she was occupied with putting her finger on who that was and how she knew them.Â
He turned around and thatâs when she saw his face. Her body practically froze. He was the guy from last night. As the world continued without her attention, her eyes followed the man who was yet to notice her as he moved to the corner of the clubhouse with Hank and the man she just met, Coco.Â
As Bishop wrapped up his long winded statement, Lara looked back at him.Â
âWhat?â She said still half out of it.Â
âI asked where are you working?âÂ
âThe Villa.â Frankie spoke up seeing how distracted Lara was.Â
Bishop nodded his head.Â
âAlright, yea you can stay for a few months. But donât be hanginâ around here.âÂ
Lara smiled, now coming back from the distracted zone she was in and hugged her father.Â
âThank you.â She kept her gratitude simple.Â
âDonât make me regret this.â He said giving her a kiss on the forehead before heading over to Hank at the bar.Â
Meanwhile, while Lara was having her conversation with Bishop and Frankie, the mystery man had caught a glimpse of Lara and was in just as much confusion and shock as the girl.Â
âAy man, who is that?â He leaned over and asked Coco.Â
âThatâs Hankâs kid, Francesca â Frankie. You fuckinâ know that, fool.â Coco said as he lit up his second cigarette of the hour.Â
âNah, not Frankie. The other chick, talkinâ to Bish.â
Hank now interrupted the conversation. âThatâs Bishopâs kid. And if I were you Iâd stay far away. For your own sake. Bishop doesnât play when it comes to Lara, and I donât either.â Hank stood up and walked over to the bar.Â
As both Bishop and Hank were occupied at the bar, Lara turned to Frankie.Â
âWho is that? The tall one.âÂ
âWho?â Frankie casually looked over her shoulder as she asked and then realized who Lara was referring to.
 âOh, thatâs Angel, the prospect.â

A/N: Been a really busy week at work and personally but I was finally able to finalize this chapter! These beginning chapters are still very much in the âbuildingâ stages of the full story but I got some big things ahead for our girl Lara... good and bad. lol. Hope you all enjoy this chapter :)
Chapter Index
TW: Mentions of death and alcohol. Also some attitude and angst.Â
Word Count: 4.9k words
Taglist: @est1887 @minimel-fics @spnaquakindgdom @nessamcâ @alienstardustâ @mrsstevenbuchananstark
5 years later.Â
There were two things Lara thought were definite the day she officially moved back to Santo Padre 5 years ago. One, was that she would rarely, if ever, be at the clubhouse. The second, was that she was going to have a conversation with Angel, the man she thought sheâd never see again. Establish ground rules between them, whether that be messing around in secret or deciding it was just a one time thing and theyâd be civil with each other.Â
Neither of those things happened. Angel had ignored her that day. Walked right by her like he had no clue or care who she was. That continued for the day, then the whole week, followed by the month. The tension that built between the two grew large, eventually the two were just out right rude to each other.Â
Which leads to the first thing she was so definite about. Visiting the club. Bishop gave that up within the first month of Lara living with him. He found that having her around wasnât just enjoyable, but also helpful. Lara knew her way around the scrapyard and was cleaning the place up. Organizing paperwork, scheduling visits for copper pickups, working with refineries to repurpose the metals, and everything in between. She mainly kept to herself, so that did help Bishop in the grand scheme of things along with the fact that he kept club business way out of her reach. While she would occasionally hang out with the guys, she mainly just lent a helping hand and when she was hanging with the guys, Bishop would lie if he said it wasnât damn entertaining. Seeing her deliver an attitude, that usually only he saw, at the guys to keep them in their place was not only hilarious but it made Bishop proud of his kid.Â
So much in fact, that here they were, five years later and Lara was still living with him. And he was content with the idea of her in Santo Padre, but that didnât mean Lara wasnât ready to rock the boat a little bit.Â
_______________
The sound of motorcycles vibrated the ground but Lara kept cleaning up, unfazed by the group of bikers entering the yard. Through the headphones that were blasting music in her ears, she heard the familiar voice of her father as he approached her.Â
âYou know we got a prospect to do that, right?â The man was taking his riding gloves off chuckling at the scene of his daughter cleaning up.Â
âMaybe so, but you got EZ runninâ bitch for everyone else that clean up seems to fall at the bottom of his list,â she smirked as she tossed the bottles into the recycling bin and then folded up her sleeves.Â
Bishop laughed at the boldness of the girl, she was the only one who could ever talk like that to him and truthfully it was because he knew she got the attitude from him.Â
âYou left the house early today,â he followed her to the steps of the clubhouse making conversation.Â
âI went to go see an apartment.âÂ
The words froze Bishop for a moment before he furrowed his brows and began to question the girl.Â
âWhere?â His voice was gruff and deep.Â
âOne on Mango Street and another on Cherry Blossom,â she didnât even offer a look towards the man knowing that his response was about to start an issue between them.Â
âSo you saw apartmentS,â he emphasized the plural in the word, âin Santo Padre.âÂ
They stepped inside the clubhouse where pretty much everyone was hanging around, doing their own thing.Â
âYup,â she squeezed behind the counter next to a couple of the girls who manned the bar as she dropped the glassware she had collected outside into the sink and washed her hands.Â
âSo youâre looking to move into your own place in Santo Padre?â he said standing in front of the bar trying to make eye contact with her. The questions he was asking were pretty much a repeat of the last. But it was just taking him a minute to wrap his head around the shock of it.Â
âYou ask a lot of questions,â her attitude was growing as she popped her headphones out and put them in her pocket.Â
Before he could respond a group of the younger Mayans had entered into the clubhouse with loud laughs as they joked with each other causing both of them to look at the door. Lara took the opportunity to slip from behind the bar and to the table where Hank was sitting, in hopes to escape the conversation she was having with her father.Â
âSave me,â she whispered to Hank as she approached the table. Lara gripped her uncleâs shoulders in desperation for him to help her and almost instantly a smirk filled the man's face.Â
âNot sure if I want to be dragged into whatever you got going on with your olâ man,â he laughed.Â
âLaloâ Bishop used the nickname he gave her when she was a little girl with firmness behind his tone. âWe agreed youâd leave here,â he leaned over the table, âand now youâre out here looking at fuckinâ apartments on fucking Cherry Blossom Street,â he spoke outraged.
âYea, youâre on your own.â Hank got up and kissed the girl's head before retreating to anywhere but there.Â
âAre we really going to do this?â Lara sighed and looked at him.Â
âYea, we fuckinâ are,â his anger level was rising.Â
Lara rolled her eyes and then looked at her father, his face was filled with frustration and sheâd lie if she said it didnât break her heart a little bit.Â
âLook, I just need my own space,â she pleaded with him knowing that wasnât his concern.Â
âThatâs fine, Lalo,â his voice had more sympathy in it as he moved to sit down at the table. âI just thought we agreed that you would leave Santo Padre. Start fresh somewhere.âÂ
She joined him at the table, her shoulders leaned against the back of the chair. âWe said that nearly 5 years ago. It was only two years after Aiden. Things were different,â she paused for a minute thinking about how much changed. She got pulled into thinking about what brought her back here which led her to her next statement. âThings were...messy.âÂ
The name of his youngest child stung Bishop as it left Laraâs mouth and she could tell immediately.Â
âI donât want to be far from you. Is that so much to ask?â she smiled hoping it would lighten the mood. âDadâs little girl,â she raised her eyebrows and laughed at the comment.Â
âShut up,â his eyes rolled as the smirk grew on his face at the sarcastic comment from his daughter.
âIâll even let you come over and fix shit,â she crossed her arms and leaned back in the seat.Â
âOh yea, Iâm sold,â he laughed nodding his head.Â
Before they could continue someone was interrupting their conversation.Â
âYo, Bish. El Padrinoâs on his way.â Angel hovered over the two with an unlit cigarette dangling from his mouth.
âNo one ever taught you manners?â Lara was standing up now fully annoyed by the tall biker. Angel and Lara had a simple dynamic, they didnât like each other and they made it very known. Between what went down between them, she had seen the way he treated the girls that hung around the clubhouse and that mixed in with his cockiness created a very noticeable dislike between them.Â
Pushing her way in between Bishop and Angel, she bent down and kissed her father on the cheek.Â
âIâm going to pick up Frankie and weâll be at Sophâs teaching the kids jewelry making all day.â Lara said as she hugged the man goodbye.Â
âIâll be home late too. I have a shift at The Villa tonight,â she completely ignored Angelâs presence until she reached and grabbed the unlit cigarette from his mouth.
âYou know these will kill you?â She brought it to her mouth and lit it, taking a deep inhale.Â
âWhat the fuck?â His voice raised a pitch at the audacity of the young woman.Â
Bishop offered a slight smirk but then wiped the look off his face before either of them could see. As Angel looked towards him to do something Obispo lifted his hands up in surrender.Â
âDonât look at me,â his head shrunk into his shoulders as he shrugged.Â
âMaybe next time youâll learn to say excuse me,â Lara called out as she grabbed her backpack and headed out the door.Â
_______________
âIf you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life what would it be?â Frankie asked Lara as they sat at the table putting together bracelets as the kids around them were doing the same.Â
âI think I would choose the Frozen CD!!!â a little boy who was about 7 years old jumped up to answer the question he overheard which caused the table to shake and the assortment of beads to rattle.Â
âGreat choice, Joshua!â Lara smiled at the young boy. âRemember to try and be aware of your surroundings though, we donât want you to get hurt,â she gripped the table to stop the shaking before things fell to the ground.Â
âSorry Ms. Lara.â
âNo need to apologize,â she smiled at the boy and stood up nodding for Frankie to follow.Â
Lara began volunteering at Sophieâs jewelry shop without even realizing it. She ended up visiting the woman so much that it just sort of happened. Lara had always been into making designs up when it came to jewlwery. Beading, braiding, bending, you name it. It was therapeutic for the girl, while also kept her mind occupied, even back in the day when not nearly as many thoughts were taking up space in her brain. Bishop always used to say to anyone whoâd listen, âLara could accessorize trash and turn it into something beautiful.â There were just so many reasons she held onto the hobby, which is what led her to the present moment.Â
The girls made their way over to the register of the shop as Lara continued to make her bracelet in hand.Â
âDid you tell your dad that we got an apartment?â Lara asked Frankie.Â
âDid you?â she responded back with her eyebrows raised.Â
âMy dad wants me to stay as close as possible, when I told him we got a place together in Santo Padre it was like a sigh of relief came over him. I only live one town over now and youâd think I was halfway across the world,â the girl joked and jumped on the counter to sit.Â
âBishop freaked,â Lara grabbed her water bottle next to the register, wrapping the finished bracelet around her knuckles as she cracked the cap of the bottle. âAnd I didnât even mention that we signed a lease.â
âIâm sure you freaked too, Mrs. Attitude,â Frankie smirked.Â
âBesides the point,â Lara rolled her eyes with a chuckle, âit seemed like he partially came around in the end. It's gonna take a few more conversations but either way Iâm doing my own thing. Only reason I stayed this long is because domestically, heâs a mess. The man needs a woman in his life because otherwise that house would just crumble.âÂ
Just as she finished that statement Sophie came out from the back with a shipment box. The kids at the table began to get riled up in excitement to see the woman.Â
âHook him up with Soph,â Frankie said casually as she scrolled on her phone.Â
âHonestly, not a bad idea,â Lara looked at how amazing the woman who owned the jewelry shop was with the kids. She already meddled enough in Bishopâs life though, organizing the scrapyard and keeping his house clean was enough for Lara, she didnât need to get involved in his love life too. She moved on and continued to talk about her father.Â
âHeâs finally starting to show signs of healing but you canât even say Aidenâs name without feeling like you just stabbed him in the heart,â Lara brought the bottle up to her mouth.Â
âWe all have different ways to grieve,â Frankie sympathized with the man. âI mean, youâre here,â she motioned around the room at the kids making jewelry.
âThis is to honor him though,â Lara offered up an excuse.Â
âAnd maybe what Bish is doing is his own way of honoring him.â Frankie shrugged knowing her point was clear but not wanting to rub salt into her best friend's wound.Â
âAlright, Jennifer Melfi.â Lara referred to her as the therapist from the Sopranos as a joke.Â
Frankie laughed and walked over to the table to help the kids get ready as the session was wrapping up for the day. For a moment Lara went back in time in her mind, thinking about this connection to her brother.
âLara, can you teach me how to make jewelry?â The little boy said randomly as she pushed him in the grocery cart with Antonia next to her.Â
âOf course I can.â The girl smiled as she leaned over the cooler to grab a tray of steak.Â
Antonia looked over and smiled at the comment the boy made and continued walking down the food aisle.Â
âWill they bully me at school for wearing it?â He asked as he was swinging his legs through the cart openings.
âIf anyone says anything to you, you tell them your sister will come down there and scare them straight,â she whispered so Antonia couldnât hear.Â
âThanks Lara.â The boy smiled and rested his hand on hers that was gripping the cart.Â
âI know you hate hearing this but you are so much of your father it blows my mind.â Antonia said as the two of them caught up to her. Lara had thought she was out of earshot to the woman but clearly she wasnât.
Lara smiled to herself at the comment. It had been an act whenever sheâd roll her eyes at the âyour just like your father commentsâ. Truthfully, it made her happy. Her father was strong, he was resilient, being like him was a compliment.Â
The memory quickly faded from her mind and she joined Frankie to help the kids pack up and as the parents arrived Frankie continued to talk to the girl about club stuff.Â
âYou cominâ to hang at the club tonight?â Frankie was adjusting the backpack on one of the kids before sending him out the door.Â
âIâm at The Villa until closing tonight, if Iâm able to hop out early Iâll probably come by,â she was crossing off the names of each student who left to make sure everyone was accounted for.Â
âEZ told me itâs just going to be lowkey. Not too many randoms.â Frankie now stood next to Lara leaning against a table that was now practically empty and only had a few more kids left around it.Â
âThen whatâs even the point?â Lara smiled knowing her best friend was about to lecture her.Â
âYou know one day one of the randoms you bring home or to the bathroom of the club, whatever you do, is going to be a serial killer and Iâm going to have to help two white girls that run a podcast solve your murder,â she glared at the girl, âand Iâm not holding back. Theyâre gonna know every excruciating detail about you.âÂ
Lara laughed out loud at the comment, âI mean Iâm not sure what the difference is, itâs not like the ones I actually know are any better, they were now whispering secretly so the two kids left that were playing at the furthest seat at the table couldnât hear. âSo I have some fun,â she shrugged her shoulders, âI see no harm. Plus, youâre getting your information from the Prospect. Thatâs your first fuck up,â Lara joked.Â
âHarm is... it's what youâve been doing for 5 years now. You know itâs just a temporary bandage on an overly infected wound,â the girl lectured her.Â
âWhen you said youâd want to go to school for psychology I didnât realize I was signing up to be your guinea pig patient,â Lara answered with a tone that was friendly enough for Frankie to surpass the sass.Â
âMhm. Iâm just looking out for you,â she said, hoping to end the conversation there, âand if anything, EZ knows what the partyâs going to be like because they make him get all the beer and food and shit,â she rebutled as they packed up before heading their separate ways.Â
___________
Lara said her goodbyes to the last family to leave the restaurant for the night. It had just hit 10:30, which was an early night for her. Typically she would find herself leaving close to midnight but then again, it was a weekday. She said her goodbyes and clocked out, taking her apron off, along with her tie as she walked over to the car Bishop had got her. Before getting into the driver's seat she rummaged through the back for an outfit to put on. Working late nights at The Villa turned her car into a walk in closet to avoid the extra stop between destinations. She quickly changed her outfit and took her hair out of the messy bun it had previously been in before driving off to the clubhouse.Â
The gate was open, which meant more people were coming, and that meant that this wasnât some lowkey party. Lara parked off to the side, close to where EZâs trailer was to avoid getting blocked in. As she locked her car, she made her way towards the large green gate to see dozens of people in the lot. The music was blaring, the fight rink was seeing a lot of action, people were dancing, and thatâs when she saw her actual uncle about to walk past her.Â
âTio Marcus?â Her tone came out as a question even though she was 100% it was him.Â
His face looked sad, a look Lara wasnât familiar with when it came to the man. He was always cheerful around the girl, she knew he had a serious side to him, but it was something she rarely saw growing up, only when she would interrupt him and Bishop.Â
âLara?â He said in the same questioning tone. His face lit up a bit when he saw her and he quickly brought her in for a hug. âWhereâve you been all day?â The two let go of their embrace and stood in front of one another.
âWork,â she sighed, holding up her name tag that was on the sweater she held in her right hand.Â
âAll day?â he frowned knowing he got there around 10AM.Â
âI volunteer at the jewelry shop when I can,â she shrugged, âthen I work nights at this restaurant downtown,â she explained.Â
âWorkinâ hard. Iâm proud of you.â Â
âWhereâre you headed? Seems like the partyâs just getting started.â Her eyes glanced around the yard as the large crowd around the fight ring yelled to declare a winner.Â
âBusiness. My partying days are over,â a smile formed on his face.
âI donât believe that for one second,â she smiled back before giving him a goodbye hug.
âNext time youâre in town, take your business,â her tone was cheeky, âto The Villa, Iâll set you up at a good table, you might even eat for free,â her eyebrows raised and wiggled.Â
Marcus laughed, âSpeaking of, Izzyâs been asking about you, think she wants to cook you a free meal.âÂ
âYou tell Izzy Iâll come over for a free meal anytime,â Lara called out as both of them parted ways.Â
Lara scanned the scrapyard for a familiar face, and stopped when she found her father who seemed absent minded as he sat at one of the wooden picnic tables.Â
âWhyâs everyone look so damn sad around here, havenât you got the memo, weâre partyinââ Lara took her sweater and lightly hit it against her fatherâs legs as she sat down next to him.Â
âLong day,â he responded without averting his gaze.Â
âTell me about it,â her face grew in a smile because she knew her response would get some reaction out of Bishop.Â
He looked over at her with a smile on his face that couldnât be hidden. He placed his arm behind the girl as they both leaned back against the table.Â
âYou wanna talk about it?â she met his gaze.Â
âThings around here are changing.âÂ
Lara nodded and understood he wasnât going to get too in depth of what the issue was. To be honest, what he had said was strides compared to years ago where he kept her completely in the dark. But even this, it was surface level. He never divulged anything about the club to her that wasnât public knowledge. It bothered Lara, it put her and Bishop at odds very frequently, but tonight, she wasnât going to argue.Â
âArenât they always?â Lara responded as she took Bishopâs beer off the table they were leaning on for herself.Â
The two sat in each other's presence for a few minutes, soaking in the night around them.Â
Lara enjoyed moments like this. Sitting in comfortable silence with her father while the world around them moved on and they were just on lookers of it all. It was the quality time she enjoyed because she didnât need to be thinking, just observing and enjoying.Â
In the midst of her observation, she noticed EZ standing on the edge of the porch of the clubhouse with Frankie on the steps to his right as they chatted and laughed. Lara could pick up on the energy between them and just offered up a little smirk to herself as she sipped on the beer.Â
âWhatâs goinâ on with those two?â Bishop asked with the same exact smirk on his face as Lara as he pointed nonchalantly at EZ and Frankie.Â
âBeats me,â Lara responded by moving her eye around the scrapyard and stopping at Angel.Â
âWhatâs goinâ on with that one?â her head nodded towards Angel who was sulking privately which was unlike the man, especially at a party.Â
âFamily shit.â Bishop said, standing up. âCanât believe Iâm sayinâ this, but if I tell you this, you canât go runninâ your mouth to him.â Bishop pointed at her.Â
âMe?â she pretended to be shocked. âRun my mouth?â her hand raised to her chest as her jaw dropped and she looked around as if she was searching for the audacity of her fatherâs words.Â
Bishop rolled his eyes. âCut the bullshit, Lalo.â he joked back at her.Â
âTell me all the chismoso,â she leaned forward.Â
âEZ asked me to be his sponsor. The two of them got some shit to work out, who knows.â Bishop explained, standing over the girl.Â
Laraâs face dropped a bit, the last time Bishop was a sponsor was the last time she felt she really knew her dad. Or at least who he used to be. Sheâd get glimpses of that man every so often still to this day, but once he sponsored Medina for the club, that was when he became 100% invested. It made sense, with someoneâs life on the line, and that call on your conscience. But it didn't make it any easier on the family Bishop left behind.Â
âDonât give me that look,â Bishop said to Lara, knowing everything she was thinking just from her expression.
Lara quickly shook her head to wipe the disappointment off her face and replaced it with a grin. âHeâs lucky to have you. Youâve always been a good person to look up to.â The tears began to well up behind her eyes but after a few blinks she was able to push them back.Â
Bishop kissed his teeth and brought the girl in for a quick hug before he got down to her eye level.Â
âIâm sorry I pushed this life on you,â his hand cupped the back of her head with a strong grip.
âWhen are you going to realize I want to be a part of this life?â Lara wasnât being mean this time though, she wasnât trying to argue, she was being honest. She accepted that this is what was meant for her life a while ago, but Bishop was still not letting anyone in.
He reached towards the girl to wipe the few stray tears that began to fall on her cheek and was about to speak but she didnât allow it.  Â
âDonât,â she stopped him by shaking her head loose from the grip. âDonât do this shit now. Iâm here now because I want to be. Letâs leave it at that.â She quickly pressed a kiss to her fathers cheek as they both stood up. âIâm going to get another beer and enjoy this party,â she was now too far for them to get any further in the conversation, âand I suggest you do the same!'' She called out and then jogged up to EZ and Frankie.Â
âLook what the cat dragged in.â EZ grinned as the girl approached.Â
âHeard the big news, prospect.â Lara said as she tossed him her empty beer.Â
âNot sure if youâre happy for me, or happy you have something to hold over Angelâs head.â EZ laughed as he straightened his back from leaning on the porch.Â
âWhy does everyone think Iâm gonna use this as some sort of leverage on Angel?â A scoff escaped her mouth as she turned to Frankie since EZ was now laughing and making his way inside to replenish the girl's beer.Â
âBecause anyone with two eyes and ears can see that you two have some deep rooted shit.â Frankie spoke. The girl had no idea about Angel and Laraâs run in at the local bar five years ago. The only people that knew were Lara and Angel and Lara was going to keep it that way.Â
âYou two bicker like an old married couple,â Frankie continued to explain.Â
Lara quickly changed the topic not wanting to hint at anything between her and Angel. âYouâre getting mighty close with EZ,â her shoulder lightly tapped Frankieâs in an attempt to tease her.Â
Frankie laughed, âWhat if I told you, we were kind ofâŠâ
Frankie didnât get to finish her sentence before Lara interrupted. âTell me youâre dating the prospect. Teeellllll me youâre dating the prospect.â She repeated over and over again.Â
âCan you relax?â she shushed the girl down and linked their arms as they declined down the stairs to go somewhere where less people were gathered.Â
âSo itâs not like thereâs an official title or anything but weâre definitely more than friends,â she explained as they moved to the right side of the clubhouse ground, still near the porch.Â
âSo it seems like Coco ainât the closest person you got anymore.â Lara teased again.Â
âThings just are easy with him,â she rolled her eyes.
âEasy with EZâ Lara kept the mocking going.Â
âCan you be serious for like 2 minutes,â Frankie pushed her.Â
âOkay, you got serious me for two minutes then Iâm going inside and taking about 3 shots and a round at the pool table with Coco to try and win back the money I lost last week.â
âDo you think Iâm crazy?â Frankie wasnât going to waste any time, she knew Lara was being serious about the two minutes and she understood she had a long day and needed to unwind.Â
âFor dating EZ? No. Not at all. Look at him. Plus he's like crazy smart, Iâm sure the two of you could come up with a world peace agreement if you really tried. But at the same time, heâs more factual while youâre more philosophical, so it evens itself out, you know? Logic versus emotion.â
Frankie looked at the girl in awe.Â
âWhat? You asked for serious, and you got 90 seconds left of it, so ask away.â Lara leaned against the pillar of the porch.
âThat was really all I wanted to know. Iâm going to take the rest day by day.âÂ
âYou tell Hank yet?â Lara was still being serious, wondering how the man was going to take it. He had to know something like this could happen, especially having her around so often.
âTell Hank what?â Ez smiled as he reproached the girls.Â
âAbout the apartment,â Lara covered for the girl quickly.Â
âOh yea, Frankie told me youâre moving into your new place on Saturday.â Ez handed over the beer to the girl.Â
âNew place?â Bishopâs voice sounded from the left.Â
He was in perfect earshot of the conversation. Lara kicked herself off from leaning on the porch as well as mentally kicked herself in the ass for not being aware of her surroundings. Her plan was to warm Bishop up to the idea of her having a place in Santo Padre, and with how things went this morning she was still in the beginning stages of her plan. And while Lara wasnât sure how much he heard, he definitely heard enough which meant she skipped warming him up and ripped the bandaid straight off.
Lara took a deep breath as she took in Bishopâs face. She swore she could see steam coming out of his ears. This mightâve been the angriest sheâd seen the man since she was a kid and all she managed to come up with was a cheesy smile followed by one word.Â
âSurprise?â

It was practically 2AM at this point as Hank and Lara sat awkwardly quiet in the van as they drove down the empty interstate. The MC van wasnât new to her, she knew the vehicle and the man driving it well, but knowing how she left mixed with the situation that led her here made everything even more tense than imagined.
The silence was eating Hank alive so he decided to speak up.Â
âAre you cold? Do you want me to turn down the air?â He asked as he went to fidget with the dials. Trying to just make the girl he looked at as a niece comfortable.Â
âNo, Iâm ok.â She responded, hands sitting in her lap as she mindlessly played with her jewelry on her hands.Â
Hank nodded and put both hands back on the wheel. A couple cars zoomed past them on the highway, but besides the occasional speeder, they were the only ones on the road. A sign that read âOakland 5 milesâ passed overhead and Lara wondered how much longer they would be driving.Â
âAre you hungry or anything?â Hank spoke up after a few minutes again. He scrunched his face up after asking once he noticed Lara jump at the unexpected noise, now double guessing if that was an okay thing to ask.Â
âWhat do you got?â Lara looked over at him curiously for the first time. She needed something to keep her mind occupied and sitting in silence was not helping. Â
Hank leaned over and rummaged through the side compartment of the van. He took out a couple pieces of paper, folded up scrapyard forms, and gas receipts until he pulled out an unopened chocolate bar and a bag of peanuts.Â
âThe prospect always keeps junk hanginâ around.â The side smirk grew on his face as he handed them to her and shrugged.
âOne manâs trash.â She said with a courteous look and opened the Hershey bar as Hank went and turned on the radio to ease the silent tension as they continued to drive.
The ride was only 10 more minutes but it felt like an eternity. If Lara was being honest, although not talking was torture for her brain, the thought of having to explain anything to Hank seemed more torturous. He was an amazing uncleâ kind, thoughtful, but hard to talk to about the deep stuff, as his niece that is. She was sure when Bishop approached him on club business he had a whole different persona, I mean how else do you get to be the Sergeant at Arms of an MC?
Hank put the car in park which made Lara snap out of her thoughts and stare up at the tiny house they pulled up to. She took in the area as she climbed out of the van and made her way to the front door. Before either of them could knock the door was being opened and Francesca Loza stood there waving them in.
Lara looked around the house as Frankie and Hank whispered by the door, clearly talking about her.Â
âJust look after her, you know?â Hank offered up to his daughter.Â
Frankie nodded and looked at the girl who was clearly uncomfortable and decided sheâd take her fatherâs advice. Which is why she then kicked him out.Â
âAlright, go.â Frankie shooed her father out the door and he raised his hands up innocently as he walked out the door just as quickly as he entered.Â
âYou want some water?â Frankie asked as she walked past the girl to fill up a glass despite Laraâs lack of response.Â
Lara awkwardly followed and grabbed the glass that Frankie put on the counter.Â
âAlright, so weâre gonna do the quiet thing, thatâs cool.â Frankie said when she realized Lara wasnât going to speak.Â
She escaped into the back hallway and Lara thought she was just going to stay back there which would leave her alone with her thoughts. But almost within seconds the girl was back in the kitchen with a bunch of folded clothes in her hand. Lara froze when she saw the clothes and then looked down at her own to see the blood all over her current outfit. A look of worry filled Laraâs face which Frankie clearly could read off of her immediately.Â
âItâs not a big deal.â Frankie spoke so nonchalant youâd think they were talking about spilt milk. âYou know who our dads are?â She shrugged and left the clothes on the counter as she opened the fridge looking for something to quickly put together.Â
She took out some produce along with a container of meat and placed them on the counter before turning around to the island in her kitchen where Lara stood on the opposite side.Â
âDo you eat meat? I have soy chorizo too, we donât discriminate in this house.â She turned back around and grabbed the ingredients she stacked up and brought them onto the island. She paused for a minute and looked directly at Lara before speaking again. âWe just donât tell Hank heâs eating a vegan based meal.â She smiled spreading everything out for Lara to get a look at.Â
âIâm a carnivore.â Lara said her first words since entering the house and then immediately flinched at the thought of her statement.Â
Frankie understood her thought process immediately, that was something great about her, she could read the room swimmingly, and all of her psychology classes made that skill even more useful. Turning around she rapidly put the beef away and replaced it with the soy chorizo.Â
âCool. Well this is a new brand so you can tell me if it passes for the real stuff cause then I can add it into Hankâs secret menu.â She smiled trying to move the conversation along as to not upset the girl and keep her calm.Â
Lara laughed and nodded, grabbing the clothes but not sure where exactly to go. Â
âBathroom is down the hall to the right, my shower is broken right now otherwise Iâd let you hop in, but the sink works and thereâs some washcloths in the linen closet.â She pointed with the wooden spoon in her hand.Â
Lara entered the bathroom and stared at herself for a couple moments. She wanted to cry but there was nothing left in her. No emotion, no tears, nothing. If anything this entire night felt like a fever dream.Â
Grabbing one of the washcloths, she began to let the water run and wipe herself down from the blood and dirt currently stuck on her being. As the towel moved down her bruised arm, her mind flashed to Jesse grabbing her and slamming her against the wall. The shriek she let out when he had her pinned against the wall filled her mind like a song would when it would get stuck in your head. Her eyes shut tight and body leaned on the counter as her head dropped. Memories kept flooding her mind as she cleaned off the blood and it drained out into the sink.Â
âYou think you can just show up because you have nowhere to go? We broke up a month ago, Lara.â Jesse said, storming through the house.Â
âI literally have nowhere else to go. I got kicked out of my old place. I have like no money because you took all of my savings and spent it on bullshit!â She said with an attitude as she chased behind him in the house.
Lara thought this was what rock bottom looked like. Begging her shitty ex for a place to live. But looking back this moment might have been the least cringey of the day.Â
âWhat a low life like you? No friends? Nowhere to go? Shocking.â He scoffed and pushed past her shoulder aggressively.Â
Standing in the kitchen looking around, she realized there was no reason to be begging for anything from this man. He didnât help her when they were together, he obviously wasnât going to help her now. At this point she figured sheâd try her luck at a shelter or try and get some money for a motel, you know, take things day by day.Â
âWhatever Iâm out of hereâ The attitude still dripping from her tone, rightfully so. Adding a nice eye roll and head shake as she walked by him, giving him the same shoulder check he just delivered to her.Â
âYou and that fucking attitude.â And with that statement his hand gripped the girl's arm practically cutting off her circulation and slammed her against the wall which caused her to shriek.Â
The constraint he held on her was so tight that she could feel her skin bruising as the seconds passed. She felt her heart racing similar to when youâd get your blood pressure taken although if things kept up like this her vital signs would be non-existent. When she shrieked his hands moved to her mouth and then down to her neck restraining her from screaming anymore but also crushing any way for air to make it down to her lungs.
âI always told you that mouth was going to get you into trouble.â
She scrambled her hands around and came across something on the counter. The hesitation that consumed her was probably the last bit of innocence she had left in her. Lara knew what was in her hand was a butcher's knife and the damage it would do could be irreparable, but as she realized there wasnât a single breath of air coming through her, she just went for it. Stabbing the knife into the manâs body and almost immediately he fell to the ground letting her go to slide down the wall.Â
âYou stupid bitch.â He spat as he lay on the ground. His next move was where he made the mistake that took his life. Taking the knife out, he bled out within seconds. Not able to say anything, just fight for air like Lara was moments ago.Â
Lara sobbed. Not for the loss of his life but for the fact that she had caused someone's loss of life.Â
Lara exited the bathroom with her change of clothes on. As she entered the kitchen she saw the plate of food on the island waiting for her and Frankie scrolling on her iPad as she sat on the counter.Â
âThanks.â Lara said as she dug into the food, not holding back, there was only so long a candy bar and bag of peanuts could hold someone over.Â
Frankie smiled and let the girl eat in peace while she also ate a plate of food. Eventually the two began small talk, which turned into friendly talk about their past. They werenât complete strangers, the two had known each other when they were younger teenagers. They were friends in fact, but once things started to go down hill with her family, Frankie was one of the people that Lara pushed away with ease.Â
âSo why are you in Oakland?â Lara asked as she leaned back in the bar height chair with her now empty plate in front of her.Â
âFinishing up my last semesters of school before I come back down. Iâm surprised my dad didnât mention it on the way over. Heâs counting down the days until Iâm home.â Â
âIf it means anything, he didnât really mention much on the ride. He hasnât changed at all.â Lara smiled.Â
âThey never do.â Frankie said with deeper meaning behind her words but keeping the conversation going so the statement went by in passing.
âMust be nice to have him want you around. Bishop practically pushed me out the door when Aiden died.âÂ
The mention of Laraâs dead brother was said with no emotion and such ease, which was something that didnât go unnoticed to Frankie.Â
âAlthough they live a very similar life, there are differences, being the president of a MC versus a member, even an office patch.â Frankie explained. âIâm sure he did what he thought was right, but that probably didnât feel good for you.â She validated the girl.Â
âJust very accustomed to losing people, you know.âÂ
âThis life, being the daughter ofâ whatever the fuck you want to call it, the MC, of an outlaw, itâs very⊠unique.â Frankie explained.Â
âUnique is what you describe something from a thrift store, this life, is fucking traumatizing.â Lara bluntly said.Â
âIâm used to being the only blunt person around.â Frankie laughed.Â
âI guess you met your match.â Lara raised her eyebrows.Â
âMatch made in hell.â Frankie retorted and both girls laughed.Â
The two of them did dishes and wiped the counters down as they talked and just bullshit the rest of the night away until both of them decided to retreat to the living room. Both of them sat on the couch and watched some late night cartoon that was on TV but neither of them were truly watching it, they were both in their own thoughts. Lara digesting the events that happened earlier while Frankie digested the best way to handle everything moving forward.Â
âIâm sure they deserved it, you know.â Frankie said to break the silence, not expecting a reply. âNot sure what happened but in most cases, itâs usually you or them. And you gotta put yourself first cause otherwise, no one else will.â Frankie added on. âYou donât have to talk about it, yet. But if you want to, Iâm here.â Frankie paused before taking her eyes off the girl and back to the TV.Â
Lara didnât give an answer, a trait she carried over from her father, but simply draped the blanket she had on over Frankieâs legs to show her she was thankful and appreciative of her and the two sat in silence for the rest of the night letting their thoughts ruminate and their friendship blossom.

Moral of the Story - Part 2
Hank Loza X OC
Their marriage took a turn for the worst, but they made a vow that neither of them had the heart to break.
Slightly messy because I wrote this in 30 minutes while devouring a plate of hashbrowns at 10pm. I've also decided that part 3 might be a possibility

âDamn, Tranq you miss a check-in with your parole officer or lawyer or some shit?â
The clubhouse was quiet, which was not unusual at such an hour on a Thursday afternoon, the only sounds were the low hum of music and the light chatter from the Mayans scattered around at the tables. Ruth pulled the lapels of her blazer so they sat flatter against her blouse as she felt the weight of the entire Charterâs eyes on her.
âTwo beers, Prospect.â Hank seemed to ignore the man who made the comment, turning to another with bulging arms behind the bar.
âIâm Ruth.â As hard as she tried to shake her entirely professional habits it didnât seem that her body wanted to cooperate as she reached out to shake the hand of the man that had made the original comment. âRuth Loza.â
âAngel Reyes.â He sent her a smirk that she was sure he had used to whoo many women during his spare time, âYou never mentioned you had a hot sister, Hank.â
âActually, we are married.â Ruth found herself feeling more satisfied than she should as the men scattered around the room seemed to simultaneously choke on their beer or inhale of cigarette smoke, âI just stopped by to get our divorce papers signed.â
âWhen the fuck did you get married?â Another member asked, the young lady that was seated beside him seemed to be the one most intently watching the scene unfold.
âWe havenât seen each other in a long time and with how we ended I donât blame Hank for wanting nothing to do with me.â
âTo 25 years together but mostly apart.â Hank took his beer from the bar countertop, raising it into the air in a short toast. âAnd to our future finally apart in the eyes of the government.â
âWe gotta hear this story.â Angel insisted as he sat back in his chair.
âYou know Huggie from the Oakland chapter? Heâs my brother.â Ruth started as she made herself comfortable on a rickety bar stool.
âAinât he in jail for murder or something?â
âHeâs got a few months left on his sentence. Anyway, he is the reason why we met.â She leaned her elbows on the counter, feeling as her expensive jacket melded onto the sticky surface, âI was supposed to be at the biggest party of my freshman existence but I bailed and stayed home to study. Huggie and Hank were trying to lay low from whomever it was that Hug had pissed off at the time and this big, burly sweetheart here caught my eye.â She bumped her shoulder against Hanks playfully as she sent him a wink.
âThe purple velour tracksuit covered in Cheeto dust had me hooked.â
âI got pregnant and dropped out of school, Hank wanted to make things right so we got married. Donât get me wrong we loved each other but we were just kids- we had no business getting married.â
The small reminiscent smile slipped off Hankâs face as his fingers peeled at the label on his beer bottle, âWe ended up losing the baby to an irreparable heart defect before he was born.â
âNeither of us knew how to grieve that loss, we were both angry and we often misplaced that anger toward each other. I threw myself back into school and Hank became Huggieâs right-hand man.â
âThe school thing must have worked out?â The girl asked, the man beside her revealing her name as Letty when he hissed at her for interrupting the story.
âA lot of years and a lot of work paid off, Iâm now a pediatric surgeon in L.A.â Ruth explained, sending the girl a smile to show she did not mind the interruption. âWe got into an argument one night and realized that maybe we just needed some time apart. At the time we were not planning to have complete radio silence for 20 years but I guess our paths were just too different. In our wedding vows, we said that we wouldnât do anything final like this for 25 years.â
Letty perked up, her eyes growing large as the length of their union was revealed. âAnd this is 25 years? Did you ever meet someone and fall in love?â
âI never did.â Ruth shook her head, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear as she stole a shy glance toward Hank to see how he would answer.
âNo.â The words were quiet as they slipped from the large manâs lips. He swivelled on the stool to look at the man behind the bar, âYou got a pen, prospect?â
Neither Hank nor Ruth noticed the room slowly empty as the documents were removed from the envelope and spread across the slightly sticky bar. Ruth stayed silent as she let Hank read through each page of the documents, not wanting to distract him as he flipped the pen between his fingers. Her eyes drifted from the bottles of booze lining the shelves to the side of Hankâs face, scanning his profile and getting lost in her own reverie. She thought about the heated argument they had gotten into when choosing what colour paint they wanted to repaint the nursery after finding out that they would not be bringing their baby home and every argument they had found themselves in during the short amount of time it took to paint the room. Her thoughts slowly drifted to a memory she always held close to her heart: the day Hank had originally painted the nursery a pale blue colour because he had been so sure that they were expecting a son. She smiled to herself as she remembered his insistence and how she had accidentally gotten paint on his face while touching up a spot he had missed, the love-filled moment they had shared as they embraced in the nursery before their passion-filled shower to rid themselves of the blue paint.
Ruth sucked in a sharp breath as Hankâs hand hovered over the line at the bottom of the page.
âHank, wait!â
