The Handmade Book Club project for April is an “Open Flat Notebook” with the added option of making a notebook in a tin. I just happened to have a tin in my stash that I’ve been hanging on to for awhile, wondering how I might use it - well, I guess its time has come! I loved learning a couple of new techniques with this project, and am rather delighted with how my wee book turned out. 🥰 As always, a huge thank you to Ali Manning of Vintage Page Designs for another fun project and excellent instruction!

I can’t stop making these mini books! I am SUPER happy with these little ones that I made on my day of the other day. These are each 3x4cm in size. I am trying to incorporate them into another idea I have, but they’re still super cute on their own too. I’m planning on a little YouTube video on these in the near future. . . . #handmadebookclub #minibooks #miniaturebook #tinybook #bookbinding #bookart #handmadebook #handmadejournal #mixedmedia #winterandthemoon #artwitch https://www.instagram.com/p/CZeBBEArm6r/?utm_medium=tumblr

Finished!! Today was the last day of Ali Manning’s @vintagepagedesigns #handmadebookclub book challenge. I made this wee journal as a special place to record my favorite recipes for #cateregandesigns handmade watercolor. I usually don’t do challenges but this felt like one I would enjoy and I totally did. It was fulfilling to finally hold this little treasure in my hand. Next week let the mixing and mulling and recipe keeping begin...again! (at Monmouth County, New Jersey) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMV18g-HpOT/?igshid=1475j6aklwxj0

For the Get Messy Season of Ok. "It will be ok." -Cleo Wade. My completed asemic writing journal, from a #handmadebookclub class taught by @jacqueline_sullivan. Collage, gesso, stencils, India ink (white and black), acrylic inks, button, ribbon, tyvek, Uniball Signo white pen (these pens hate me - they blob and skip constantly - every single one I've owned).

After finishing my book for the “Scrappy Journal Challenge” with Ali Manning at Vintage Page Designs I couldn’t resist immediately tackling another, this time in shades of blue with confetti-flecked paper for signatures. So. Much. Fun! 🥰

This week I’m participating in the “Scrappy Journal Challenge” with Ali Manning at Vintage Page Designs. Day 4 was sewing everything together to complete our book, and for once I actually didn’t lose my mind with frustration! I credit part of this to finally getting my hands on blunt bookbinding needles - a total game changer - but also for whatever reason this particular stitch pattern made total sense to me and I didn’t find it too difficult to wrap my brain around it. In any case, Ali always does an amazing job of explaining everything and these projects are so fun!

This week I’m participating in the “Scrappy Journal Challenge” with Ali Manning at Vintage Page Designs and today’s portion of the project - preparing our journal’s cover - might have been the most fun I’ve had in awhile! I completed the outside of the cover first, and because I was enjoying the process so much I decided to carry on and do something similar for the inside covers. I’m thrilled with how it all turned out!

Day 5 of the 5-day “Coptic Gratitude Journal Challenge” with Ali Manning at Vintage Page Designs was all about the stitching - and with that, my little journal is complete! This was such a fun experience - it reminded me just how much I enjoy making books, and that I need to make time to do this more often. Thank you to Ali and the entire team at Vintage Page Designs for a wonderful time!

Day 4 of the 5-day “Coptic Gratitude Journal Challenge” with Ali Manning at Vintage Page Designs involved punching holes in our covers and signatures, getting them them ready for sewing tomorrow. This was my first opportunity to use my new punching cradle from Ali’s shop, and it was so much more convenient and streamlined than the way I used to punch my books!

Day 3 of the 5-day “Coptic Gratitude Journal Challenge” with Ali Manning at Vintage Page Designs was all about making our front and back covers with ribbon closures and then pressing them overnight. I absolutely love these patterns! 🥰

Day 2 of the 5-day “Coptic Gratitude Journal Challenge” with Ali Manning at Vintage Page Designs involved cutting and folding signatures, cutting and folding decorative signature wrappers, and assembling the signatures and wrappers with the envelopes from yesterday. I ended up making two more envelope signature wrappers - I’d only done four yesterday, but decided to do six signatures total, so needed additional envelopes. Now everything will be pressed overnight under a stack of heavy books. Onward!

I’m so excited to be participating in the 5-day “Coptic Gratitude Journal Challenge” with Ali Manning at Vintage Page Designs! Our task for Day 1 was to cut and fold paper of our choice into envelope signature wrappers, which will now be pressed overnight under a stack of my heaviest books. For my envelopes I used some gorgeous Tuttle Publishing “Shimmering Silver” wrapping paper, and I absolutely love the various designs in combinations of black, grey, pink, and yes, silver. Looking forward to seeing how my project turns out - watch this space!
