"Only you could lift me up."
Meet Angolan handball player, Albertina Kassoma.
And her Brazillian handball rival, Tamires Morena.
I hadn't ever watched handball, but I decided to check it out and all I can say is... these women are *not* playing around.
Okay, I mean, they are *technically* playing around, but they are quite fierce as they are doing it. Every single one of them is just pure agility and muscle and most of them are quite tall.
Albertina twisted her knee during their Olympic match. Tamires saw the medics were too short to be an effective crutch and decided to take matters into her own hands.
Well... arms.
Her very sizeable arms.
It was a heartwarming moment of sportswomanship—the 6 foot tall Brazillian Amazon picked up the 6 foot 1 inch Angolan in an epic display of effortless strength. It was like she was carrying a bag of feathers.
My favorite part was when the coach was all...
"Thanks for your assistance, ma'am, but I'll take it from here."
"I am helping!"
"I'm glad we could work together on this."
"And now I will give you the universal "pat-pat" signifying a mutual and equivalent accomplishment."
These two actually compete against each other in Romania's handball league and when they aren't violently hip-checking each other on the court, they are longtime buddies.
Just gals being pals.
Once she was safely on the bench, Albertina told Tamires...
"Thank you very much, my friend. Only you could lift me up. I was very hurt."
Tamires told reporters...
"We love to sit down for coffee and chat. We don't have much time to go out at night, but we are lifelong friends.”
I would like to submit this as my latest installment in my ongoing series...
Where I find something that can be *respectfully* admired for a combination of beauty and an unrelated x-factor heightening said beauty.
Previous installments include...
Not to be a lesbian but... here is a cool lumberjill (along with an explanation of the kinetic chain (and a bird explodes)).
Not to be a lesbian but... here is a gymnast teaching a stuntwoman how to do cool flips (and then the stuntwoman gets the zoomies).
Not to be a lesbian but... the lumberjill returns to teach you self (lower your) defense(s).
Not to be a lesbian but... here is a really tired-ass bear.
Okay, that last one does not fit thematically, but I just love that tired-ass bear.

CAPTAIN HEART
Ollie Bearman X player!fem!reader
Summary: When the GP is in Australia, Oscar and Lily drag their friends to watch their best friend's handball game, Ollie is initially not so excited, but as soon as he sees the team captain enter the court, things start to get interesting.
Words: 6.5K+
Warnings: Female reader (always in my stories), lots of mention of handball game, Ollie a bit boring at the beginning haha, cute (??), extroverted protagonist (LIKE, VERY), swear words, Blood, bruise on the nose.
Author: English is not my first language, so sorry for any mistakes that may be there. And then, I love handball, I was a player for about 6 years and then I had to stop the day I had an injury and almost broke my foot, so, yeah, I needed to write this to make up for the lack of a game. 😭
MASTERLIST
CHAPTERS: CAPTAIN HEART
Thursday, Melbourne. One day before Formula 1 practice began for Sunday's Grand Prix. Oscar and Lily were excited that race day had finally arrived in Australia, and since the drivers had arrived a day before it all started, they were given the day off by the teams.
Y/n had told her best friend that her team's next game would be almost on the weekend of the GP and in Melbourne, Lily excitedly told Oscar and asked him to invite some of his F1 friends to go with them to watch her best friend's handball game - theirs in fact -
Lily met Y/n in kindergarten and Oscar was her neighbor before he moved away to run. They spent every year and last year of school together.
And let's say Y/n was also the cupid to bring these two together.
Now, Oscar, Lily, Kimi, Lando and Ollie were arriving at the game's gym. Everyone was excited. Well, except Ollie, he hadn't said he was going, but he also didn't refuse the offer to leave the hotel room. Let's just say he was quiet, without any expression of excitement, unlike the other pilots and the excited Lily of the group. who was the most excited person
"Do you remember when Y/n scored that goal in the school championship?" Lily commented, laughing. "She dragged us to the court for a week, forcing me to practice passing with her!" Piastri's girlfriend tells one of Y/n's stories to the three pilots who came together, as they walked through the parking lot to get to the gym.
"I've never seen Lily so excited!" Lando comments, making them laugh. And Ollie just smirks. "She's always so quiet in the F1 pits."
Ollie really didn't expect that those hours he would spend on a court, watching a game he didn't know the rules for, would change his life. But it would, it really would. And for the better.
"You ain't seen nothing yet!" Oscar chuckles, hugging his girlfriend sideways as they enter the gym.
Ollie adjusted his cap for the third time since they left the hotel. He hadn't said a word since they got in the car. Lando nudged Oscar with a small smile, but Oscar just shook his head with a smile, as if to say 'leave him alone'.
Lily, as her best friend's number one fan, kindly asked the drivers to wear an accessory that matched the color of her team's uniform. She was the one who took it the most seriously, wearing a pink dress that was exactly the color of her best friend's uniform and white sneakers.
The gym was packed, filled with fans wearing the team colors. Banners hung on the walls extolling the team names and the sound of chatter and cheering laughter created a constant buzz. DJ Agostino's 'Another Way' played over the courtside speakers before the game actually started.
Lily and the group stopped as soon as they entered, looking around to try to locate five free seats which seemed like a mission. The sea of people made the task more complicated than it seemed.
"This is more crowded than the Monaco paddock!!" Lando says loudly so his voice can be heard above the sound, as he looks at the stands.
Ollie adjusts the white cap he was wearing, as he looks at all the crowd. "Wow!" He whispers, scared by so many people. He didn't expect so many people to come.
Kimi looks at him and just smiles, before looking back down at the court.
Downstairs, the teams were already on the court warming up. Y/n's team wore a gradient uniform that went from pink to purple, vibrant and striking under the gym lights. The opposing team, in dark green, was also focused.
"Hey, I found five spots!!" Lily says loudly, dragging Oscar by the hand and the rest following behind.
"Has the game started yet?" Kimi asks curiously, watching the teams on the court warming up. He definitely doesn't know much about this sport.
"No," Oscar says gently. "Lily wouldn't let us be late to Y/n's game."
Y/n. Ollie repeated the name in his head. First time he had heard the name of 'Lily's friend who plays handball'. It was a beautiful name, he thought.
They laugh at Piastri's comment.
The seats Lily had gotten were high up, but above the teams' bench and where the coaches sat. A great view of the game.
"Hey Lily, do I still have a chance with Y/n?" Lando asks smiling, leaning in to see Oscar's girlfriend's face. While Oscar himself laughed at Norris's question.
His question also caught Ollie's attention. He didn't know the girl and he wasn't really interested in going to that game either, but the boredom of staying at the hotel wasn't an option. Bearman leaned in, trying to hear Lily's answer.
The question made Lily laugh out loud, catching the attention of some people around, but they paid no attention. "Lando, do you remember what happened the last time you tried that? She was so polite in refusing, it almost made me feel sorry for you."
Lando just shrugged, laughing. "I like to think she was having a rough day."
Ollie leaned back in the chair next to Lando, feeling his heart beat slower than it had before Lily's answer.
"Which one is the famous Y/n?" Kimi asks, looking at both teams.
"That one with her hands on her hips. Tall with the bracelet on her left arm" Lando points and Kimi spots it.
"Oh, right!" He says gently, leaning back in his chair.
Ollie took the opportunity to take a look too. And wow, what a breathtaking girl!! It was nothing like he imagined, it was trillions of times more charming than normal.
Y/n was in the center of the court, with her hair tied in two symmetrical braids and her uniform impeccable. She wore a captain's bracelet on her right arm, standing out from the rest of the team, her white socks were lined up below her knees, combined with her white Asics too, she wore black shorts and the team's shirt. From pink to goho.
Ollie understood Lily's excitement. The girl downstairs was definitely worth sitting there for an hour watching the game.
At that moment, she was talking to a teammate, while other players were stretching and exchanging passes. She was pointing at something on the floor of the court, while making signs back and forth, as if she were simulating something.
"Is she Italian? She gestures her hands a lot while she talks" Kimi jokes, making them laugh. Even Ollie, who was now enjoying the idea of being there.
"No, she's Australian. But I think her grandparents came from Italy," Lily says smiling.
"It's explained" Kimi said.
With that, turning their gaze to the court, they see the goalkeeper of Y/n's team throwing a ball at her, catching her off guard.
But Y/n caught the ball and bounced it on the ground with precision, each movement coordinated and graceful. When she started running, it was as if her feet barely touched the ground, and the final throw was so fast and strong that even the net seemed to struggle to keep the ball in the goal. Ollie was amazed. He knew pilots needed quick reflexes, but this... this was on another level.
Lily clapped happily, while Oscar did the same for his friend, but not as excitedly as his girlfriend.
Ollie's eyes widen as the ball goes over the net. He looks at his F1 teammates. "Wow, what kind of power is that?" He says.
Lando discreetly looks at Oscar and wiggles his eyebrows up and down, Oscar holds back a laugh. It seems Bearman became interested in the game as soon as he saw Y/n.
"Did you see?" Lily says excitedly. "Modesty aside. But she's the best of both teams!" She gestures with her hands and they laugh at the blonde girl's excitement.
When Ollie looks back at the court, the player is thanking a fan of the opposing team who got the ball for her.
She bounced the ball on the ground as she walked around the court and looked at the stands, when she saw Lily and the boys there, she smiled sweetly and waved at them. Lily, Oscar and Lando who knew her, waved and smiled in return, while Kimi smiled gently and Ollie was paralyzed.
Bearman was silent, his eyes fixed on Y/n. As if, at that moment, something had changed inside him. He found himself completely captured by her, without knowing exactly how or why.
Y/n points to her shirt, and then to them, making a heart. Which of course, was directed at her best friend in the stands, as if to say she liked the idea of them wearing her team's colors.
Oscar was wearing a dark pink t-shirt and black pants, Lily, as mentioned, was wearing a pink and white dress, Lando had nothing, so he bought a pair of pink party glasses and some purple carnival scarves that were around his neck. Kimi had coincidentally brought a pair of baby pink denim shorts for the trip and wore them. Bearman, on the other hand, was wearing neutral clothes, but he was wearing sneakers with purple and pink details.
Now, he really wished he had come with more of her team colors. He felt captured.
When Y/n looked in Ollie's direction, he felt his heart beat faster, as if that second had lasted an eternity. Her smile completely disarmed him, and when she turned back to the team, he continued to stare, as if he couldn't look away.
The whistle blew loudly, echoing throughout the gym, signaling that the warm-up was over. The two teams gathered on their respective benches to organize themselves for the game.
Y/n, with the captain's bracelet firmly on her arm, walked towards the technician, who was next to the bench with the clipboard in her hands.
They chatted quickly, with Y/n nodding positively, while the girl applied a game-specific glue to her fingertips.
"What's that thing she put on her fingers?" Ollie asks, looking to Lily for answers.
"Handball glue. To help you hold the ball better in your hands." She says and he nods. "It's really hard to get off afterwards. Personal experience." Lily laughs.
"There was this one time I accidentally passed in gym class in high school and it stuck to my clothes. I had to soak my shirt for like two weeks," Oscar says and they laugh.
Down below, Y/n smiled at something the technician said. It was a smile full of confidence, the kind of smile that made it clear she knew exactly what needed to be done.
Y/n's team was a few points ahead in the championship, but they needed to win this game to qualify for the finals.
The captain returned to the group, leading a synchronized clap with the team, clapping her hands in the center of the circle while cheering happily. The fans of their team cheered loudly. Since the game was at home, Y/n's team had more fans present and the gym was more pink than the green of the opponents.
Lily screamed loudly, standing up and clapping her hands. Oscar smiles and claps, while Lando blows a horn, getting their attention.
"Where did you get it from?" Lily asks excitedly.
"I brought it. And two!!" Lando smiles and Lily takes one and starts blowing. Oscar laughs at his girlfriend's excited manner.
The two teams headed to the center of the court for their initial handshakes. Y/n was the first in line, extending her hand with a confident smile to the opposing players, while the rest of the team followed suit. The energy on the court was electric.
As Y/n's team took up position, she took her place in the center, ball in hand. The whistle blew again, and the game began. With a quick pass to the sideline, she moved nimbly, calculating each move. The opposing team formed a solid barrier in defense, but Y/n's team seemed ready to break it right away.
In the stands, the tension and excitement were palpable. Lily was now sitting up straight in her chair watching the game.
"She loves it, doesn't she?" Oscar commented, watching his best friend run down the court.
"Absolutely!" Lily replied, her eyes still fixed on the player. "Y/n was born to be there. Did you see how she lit up when the team cheered along with her? That's her place."
"I didn't think handball was such an exciting and tense game," Kimi comments, watching the game with a smile.
Lando agrees.
Ollie, on the other hand, was quieter. He barely blinked as he followed Y/n's every move. It was fascinating to watch the way she moved with determination, as if the court was an extension of herself. With every pass, every shot, she commanded the team with a presence that left no doubt that she was the leader there.
He couldn't stop smiling when she fought with a teammate, when they missed a pass to her. Y/n was definitely the stressed one on the court.
When Y/n opened the scoring with the first goal - a shot into the right corner of the net, the gym erupted in cheers and applause. Lily screamed so loudly that it made Lando and Oscar laugh.
The opposing team tried to reorganize, but the pressure Y/n put on the defense seemed unbreakable.
Kimi clapped her hands and Ollie, without realizing it, smiled along. It was impossible not to be infected by the energy.
"She's amazing, isn't she?" Lily asked to no one in particular, still clapping her hands.
"Amazing is an understatement," Ollie replied quietly, but loud enough for Lando to hear.
"You're more involved than I thought you would be," Lando commented, with a smirk.
Ollie shook his head, trying to hide it. "I just... I've never seen anything like it. It's impressive."
Lando waggles his eyebrows and smiles, turning to watch the game.
With each point scored by Y/n's team, the stands cheered, and Lily almost fell out of her seat with excitement. Even Oscar, usually more restrained, celebrated with applause and shouts. Lando was already completely in the mood, shouting along with the fans, while Kimi watched everything with a discreet smile.
Ollie, however, seemed trapped in a trance, barely noticing the passing of time. He didn't know exactly what was happening, but one thing was clear: that girl on the court had captured his attention in a way he never imagined. And he knew that this afternoon wouldn't just be about watching a game; it was the beginning of something much bigger.
The whistle blew after 20 minutes, signaling that the first half was over. The referee collects the ball and the players walk to their team benches.
Y/n, apparently very tired, leans on her knees in the middle of the court and sighs deeply, standing up and looking at the scoreboard. Her team was three goals ahead, but Y/n knew that they were capable of increasing that difference.
One of her teammates walks past Y/n and puts a hand on her back, smiling and saying something.
Y/n walked over to the team's bench, below where the group was sitting. She wiped the sweat from her forehead, while listening to the coach strategizing with the group and opened a bottle. When she put it in her mouth, she noticed that the bottle was empty.
She looks around, looking for any full ones. But they were all empty. Y/n turns to the bleachers and walks a few steps until she stands on the net and looks at Lily.
The player shakes the bottle upside down and shouts, "Water!!" As if asking if Lily had any.
Lily understood and then began to search through the backpack that Oscar had brought, and found a full and cold bottle. Before she could get up and hand it to her best friend, Lando leaned over and held his arm for Lily to sit down. Oscar and the girl frowned in confusion.
Y/n wasn't looking, she was focused on the coach's speeches, while holding the net and leaning on the bars.
"Wait, sit down. Let Ollie take it."
Lily frowned. "Why?"
Oscar, curious, also asked: "Yeah, why him?"
Lando looked towards Ollie, who was talking calmly with Kimi, and smiled mischievously.
"Did you see how he was watching the game? He barely blinked. And we could tell at first how he didn't want to be here. I'm pretty sure he finds Y/n attractive, to be so focused on the game that he didn't want to come. And now I want to see how he'll react having his first contact with her." Lando explains and Oscar raises his eyebrows liking the idea.
Piastri and Lily exchanged glances, holding back their laughter, and soon agreed.
"Okay, that makes sense. Let's see how he does," Oscar said, trying not to laugh out loud.
"That's it then. Let's put the boy on the front lines." Lily joked, handing the bottle to Lando.
Lando leaned over to Ollie and got his attention. "Hey, Ollie, do me a favor? Take this water down to Yin."
Ollie looked at the bottle in confusion and then at Lando. "Me?"
"Yes, you're closer to the stairs and she's asking. Go there," Oscar encouraged, nodding in Y/n's direction.
With that, Y/n turns to see if Lily was bringing the water, but she only sees Lando pass the bottle to a tall, dark-haired boy who was with them and who was closer to the stairs. The one she had found attractive as soon as she saw the group sit on the bleachers.
Ollie grabbed the bottle and started down the stairs. His heart beat faster with each step, and he tried to appear as calm as possible, but he could feel the eyes of the group all on his back.
Meanwhile, the group upstairs told Kimi about their plan, who smiled lovingly at the idea. She knew Bearman well enough to know when he was into someone. He told the group this, and they smiled victoriously.
Now Y/n just had to get interested too. Lily would be in the know about that.
Y/n, who was still holding the net and leaning against the iron that separated the stands, noticed Ollie approaching. When she saw him with the bottle in his hand, she gave him a warm smile, adjusting her posture to welcome him.
"Thank you! You saved my life," Y/n said with a smile, and Ollie noticed how soft but sure her voice was, something he hadn't noticed while watching her play.
Ollie felt his face heat up. Her smile was even more beautiful up close, and he couldn't help but smile a little as he said, "No problem. Good game, by the way. You're killing it out there."
"Thanks! There's still a lot of play left, but we'll try," Y/n replied with a confident smile, opening the bottle and taking a sip. "I like your sneakers," she commented, pointing with her chin. "They match the team colors." Y/n smiled and handed the now empty bottle back to him.
He smiles and looks at his feet. "Yeah, Lily came up with the idea of coming in team colors. I didn't have anything pink or purple in my closet, but my sneakers saved it" Ollie laughs and Y/n smiles, before saying goodbye with a wave and returning to the room. team.
As he walked up the stairs, he tried to hide his smile, but he couldn't.
"What's up?" Lando asked as soon as Ollie returned to his seat.
He can't hide his smile and the group notices. "She's... nice" he smiles and walks past them, until he sits back down in the chair he was in.
"Nice?" Kimi laughed, crossing her arms. "From the way you came back, it looks like she proposed to you."
Meanwhile, on the court, Y/n looked up at the stands and saw the whole group laughing. She smiled to herself, shaking her head, wondering if they had something to do with it.
"Yeah, he really did come back with a silly smile on his face," Lily says, giggling.
"Didn't I tell you?" Lando smiles and spreads his hands.
"We should get them together," Oscar gives the idea. "Y/n is still single, right?"
Lily nods, liking the idea.
"And if it's not, we'll find a way!" Lando comments and they laugh, soon hearing the second half whistle.
Kimi, who had been watching everything, let out a small laugh. "You guys are terrible... but this will be fun to watch."
The second half began with Y/n's team dominating the court. The movement was intense, with fast and precise plays. Y/n seemed to be in tune with the team, leading most of the attacks.
But one thing was for sure, Y/n could be kind off the court, but on the court, she didn't take insults.
"DO YOU WANT TO TAKE ME WITH YOU?" Y/n shouts at a player from the rival team, when the opponent scores a goal and the girl bumps into the captain.
A teammate pulls Y/n away so she doesn't fight, while the group in the stands smiles at the girl's stress.
Goals came frequently, and the fans reacted to each point won and Y/n's team had increased their goal advantage.
"Did you see her control on that play? It was incredible," Oscar commented, impressed.
"No wonder she's the star of the team," Lily added with a proud smile, but already noticing Y/n's intense pace.
Ollie made a few comments, but was quiet, now with a smile on his face. Looking forward to watching all her games from now on.
A few minutes later, halfway through the second half, the score was 34-30, somehow the dark green team had managed to catch their breath and score goals, making Y/n's team a little shaken, but not giving up.
Y/n's team was on the counterattack, and the girl was free near the opponent's goal, asking for the ball so she could score. She received a high and quick pass. But, before she could react, the ball came with force and hit her face directly.
The impact was strong. Y/n fell to the ground, holding her face with both hands, while the entire court went silent.
"Holy crap, is she okay?!" Lando stood up immediately, worried.
Oscar leaned forward worriedly, trying to get a better look. "It looks like it was strong... Very strong."
Ollie stood frozen, the expression of concern clear on his face. "She's on the ground. Why isn't anyone coming to help?!"
On the court, Y/n's teammates quickly surrounded her. The coach ran to check, and the referee stopped the game.
Y/n sat down on the floor, removing her hand from her face and blood began to run from her nose. As she had both hands on her face, the blood spread and stained her entire face red.
"Oh no..." Lily mumbled, bringing her hand to her mouth. "It's bleeding."
Ollie felt his stomach churn as he saw all that blood dripping from Y/n's face.
Oscar leaned back in his chair, placing both hands on his head as he watched Y/n's teammates help her.
Despite the blood and obvious pain, Y/n started to get up and ask for the ball, as it had been a foul too. The coach and referee insisted that she leave the court, but she shook her head.
"I'm fine, it's just bleeding," she says, accepting the towel the coach hands her. The group can hear Y/n's voice in the stands.
"She can't go on, it was a blow to the head" Ollie says looking at his friends, worried.
They agree.
"You need to come off," the referee warned.
"I'll be back in a minute," she snapped, running to the side of the court.
"But..." the referee tried to speak again.
"You can go on, I'll be back in five minutes at the most," she argues, running with her head held high to the team bench, so as not to end up dripping blood across the court.
Lily yelled from the stands, "Are you okay?!"
Y/n turned around, giving a confident thumbs-up, though the handkerchief over her blood-soaked nose said otherwise. "I'm fine! I'll be back playing in a bit!"
The game resumes, now with Y/n lying on the bench while the technician quickly bandaged her nose and stopped the bleeding. They heard the older woman tell Y/n to stay on the bench for these last few minutes, but the girl refused every time.
"She can't play again, that was dangerous. She should rest," Oscar says, watching his friend sit on the bench with her face covered in dried blood. "She must be in pain!"
"Or not..." Kimi says and they look at the Italian. "Maybe the adrenaline in the body doesn't let the pain come, just the blood. She was running too much."
"She's crazy," Lily shakes her head, watching Y/n stand up with the bandage on her nose and walk to the edge of the court, waiting to enter. "But that's why we love her."
Ollie smiles looking at the girl on the court.
She enters the court again, soon receiving a pass and shooting at the goal. Making the crowd scream happily again.
"I don't know how she's still playing after that," Lando commented, visibly impressed, grimacing just imagining the pain her nose would feel afterwards.
Oscar and Lily look towards Ollie, who had a worried look on his face and followed Y/n wherever she ran. They exchange an amused look and nudge Kimi and Lando, pointing with their chins at the Brit.
Lando smiles: "Go on, give her a shout of encouragement. Show her you're rooting for her." The McLaren driver elbows his friend.
"What? No!" Ollie says quickly, making the group laugh.
Meanwhile, Y/n came back with the same energy as before, scoring another point and making the crowd scream. She was determined to show that she wouldn't let anything get her down.
Lily, however, whispered to Oscar, "She pretends to be fine, but I know she'll feel it later."
Oscar nodded. "And when she does, we'll have to hold her tight, because the pain is going to be terrible!"
Lily nods in agreement.
The final whistle blew and the scoreboard showed 46-36. Y/n's team had won, securing their place in the long-awaited final. The court erupted in cheers and applause. Y/n raised her arms and screamed with happiness along with the team, but the effort made the bandage on her nose start to spurt blood again.
In the stands, the group became instantly worried, stopping breathing for a few seconds.
"She's bleeding again!" Ollie exclaimed.
"My God, that girl just won't stop!" Lily commented, shaking her head, though her tone was more relieved than critical.
But Y/n just laughed as she pressed her shirt to her nose and hugged her teammates, celebrating with them.
Ollie sighed, feeling the weight of worry lift from his shoulders. He leaned back in his seat, relieved to see her okay. However, a pang of sadness hit him when he realized the game was over. He wanted to watch more, wanted to keep seeing Y/n in that contagious energy, dominating the court.
Which was strange, since he had zero desire to be there at first. He felt something change, as soon as Y/n looked at him for the first time.
"Well, that was exciting, and a little... bloody..." Oscar commented, making them laugh. He looked at Kimi and Ollie, with a curious smile. "So, what did you guys think of this handball experience?"
Kimi smiled excitedly: "It was my first time watching a match. I must say it's as exciting as Formula 1" he says laughing.
Ollie, on the other hand, took a moment to respond. He stared at the court, his eyes fixed on Y/n, who was still celebrating. "Yeah... She's amazing. You can tell she loves what she does. Not only does she play well, but she makes it look easy. It's hard not to be in awe." He looked at the group, who were all smiling mischievously. "I mean, the game!! The game is amazing!!"
"Ah, you really are 'in awe', huh?" Kimi teased, her tone casual.
Ollie blushed slightly, looking away. "I'm just telling the truth."
Lily stood up, still laughing. "Okay, let's wait for her outside. She'll want to come back with us, for sure."
As soon as Lily mentioned Y/n coming back with them, Ollie felt his heart race in a way he didn't fully understand. He stood up with the group, but his thoughts were stuck on what it would be like to see her outside the court, in their midst. He tried to control his nervousness, but his steps were a little slower than normal.
Taking one last look at the court, he saw Y/n looking at him. She waves her hand and tries to smile, but the cloth on her face gets in the way. Ollie laughs and waves back.
They walked out of the gym, leaving behind the heat and the muffled sound of the crowd. Outside, the air was cool, with a late afternoon breeze. The sky was tinged with orange from the sunset.
Lily looked around as they walked to the car they had come in. "I don't think she'll be long. She must be cleaning all that blood off her face." Lily shivered, but she didn't know if it was from the cold or from remembering that blood dripping from her best friend's face. "It gives me the creeps."
Ollie was silent, walking next to Kimi with his hands in his pants pocket, while looking at all the doors the gym had, as if Y/n would suddenly appear.
The group was gathered in a circle near the car, laughing and talking about the game. Lily excitedly recalled Yin's final goal, while Oscar made exaggerated gestures to show how lost the opposing goalkeeper looked. Kimi talked about how much she had enjoyed watching the game, and Lando glanced sideways at Ollie, who was leaning against the car with his arms crossed and glancing at the gym door every 10 seconds.
When Ollie finally became interested in the conversation and made comments, the door to the gym locker room opens, making the group fall silent and look in the same direction at the same time.
The rival team left the gym, some with backpacks on their backs, others looking at the floor and some drinking water and complaining.
"Those ones are feeling the weight of defeat," Oscar commented in a carefree tone.
"Oh, they weren't that bad," Lily tried to be diplomatic.
"They lost by 10 goals, it wasn't much" Kimi says sarcastically and the group laughs.
"Are you defending the other team now, Lily? I'll tell Y/n," Lando said, drawing more laughter.
They turned to the circle and continued to talk while they waited for their friend, Ollie however, was looking more closely at the door, now not even hiding it anymore.
The group only notices when they talk to him and he doesn't respond.
"Relax, man. She's not going to evaporate," Kimi commented, crossing her arms and giving Ollie an amused look. "Or do you think she escaped through the back exit?"
"You're insufferable," Ollie grumbled, but he couldn't help but smile slightly.
They laughed, now with Ollie bringing up a topic to distract the group so they wouldn't make any more provocative comments about Y/n.
A few minutes passed, and the door finally opened again. This time, laughter and excited voices filled the air.
Y/n's team left, celebrating enthusiastically, some walking in the opposite direction of the group. Some danced to the sound of music coming from a speaker, carried by one of the players.
Ollie scanned the room with his gaze, trying to locate Y/n. The girl appeared among the last, talking animatedly with a classmate and laughing at something one of them had said. Bearman felt his heart skip a beat inside his ribcage.
She was wearing shorts, flip-flops, and athletic socks, holding her sneakers in her hands. Her blouse was slung over her shoulder, and she was wearing only a black tank top, which showed the light sheen of sweat on her skin. Her hair was messy in its braids, but that only made her more charming. The new bandage on her nose seemed almost insignificant compared to the sparkle in her eyes and the smile that lit up her face.
"Someone help Ollie, he's not breathing!" Kimi taunts, lightly patting his friend's back.
The other three laugh loudly, catching Y/n's attention.
The player felt her heart warm when she saw her friends gathered outside, waiting for her. Even though she was exhausted, the smile on her face grew even bigger.
"He looks like a teenager seeing his crush for the first time," Lando added, looking at Ollie.
"Come on, Romeo. Get the courage to talk to your Juliet before she realizes you're freaking out internally!" Oscar laughs.
"You guys stop. He's almost dying and you're teasing him," Lily scolds, but smiles.
With that, Y/n said goodbye to her teammates and chatted quickly with the coach, before packing her backpack on her back and turning to the group.
"I told you he'd blush the second she walked out the door. Pay me ten bucks, Oscar," Lando commented quietly, nudging his friend.
"I didn't bet anything!" Oscar retorted, laughing.
When she sees the group, Y/n lets out an excited scream and starts running towards Lily, who was running towards her too, the two join in a hug. With Lily saying how amazing the game was and asking if she was okay.
Oscar also approaches and congratulates his best friend, giving her a hug and asking about her injury.
"Now will you please be quiet and recover from your injury?!" He says, slapping her shoulder and she laughs, with Lily beside her smiling too.
Y/n smiles, as her eyes fall on Lando and the other two pilots she hadn't met yet.
Lando stepped forward, opening his arms as if expecting a hug. "Well, I deserve a hug for supporting you emotionally from the beginning to the end of this match, don't I?"
Y/n put her hands on her hips and arched an eyebrow, laughing. "You're insistent, aren't you?" She laughs. "Come here, Norris" she opens the hug and he congratulates her on the game.
"I'm really a guy who goes after things," Lando says and Y/n rolls her eyes exaggeratedly, while she and the group laugh.
"Ok, prince charming!"
Then she looked at the two other pilots, she smiles friendly and comes closer to them. "Hey, I'm just going to put my shirt on before I greet you guys, okay? So you don't think I'm trying to impress you or anything." She laughs awkwardly and takes the shirt off her shoulder and puts it on.
Lily helps her by holding her sneakers and backpack.
Kimi smiled, shaking her head. "Impressed? You just played the second half with a bloody nose. That's impressive enough!"
Adjusting the pink shirt on her body – that was now red from the blood, she looked at them again and pointed to the piece. "Oh, and you don't mind hugging me with my dried blood here, do you? I promise it's just a little."
Kimi laughed. "I'm Kimi Antonelli, Mercedes driver. And congratulations on the game and the classification!" He greeted with an outstretched hand and then a hug.
"Nice to meet you, Y/n!" She smiles, pulling out of the hug. "And thank you."
Then she turned to Ollie, who was standing a little further to the side, trying to look relaxed but clearly nervous. Y/n smiled at him, tilting her head slightly. "Hey, the water boy who saved me at break
Ollie smiles and extends his hand. “Myself,” he chuckles and the two shake hands. As Y/n pulls him into a hug, she smells his subtle scent, and as she pulls away, she notices he’s still smiling, but there’s something different in his eyes. “Ollie Bearman, nice to meet you!”
There was something about her smile that felt different, softer, and her gaze held his for a little longer than usual.
Y/n was outgoing and known for getting along with everyone who crossed her path, she was always so friendly and calm. But there was something about Ollie that touched her, making the player a little shy.
"Nice to meet you, Y/n!" She smiles. "And sorry guys, I'm a little sticky from hugging you guys!" Y/n looks around the group quickly.
They gesture with their hand as if it were nothing.
"That was a great game," Ollie gestured with his hands, while Y/n was still in front of him. "It's impressive to see someone playing with that much intensity."
Y/n smiles shyly, taking a step back. She was actually quite close to the British pilot, the group noticed and exchanged mischievous glances with each other.
"Thank you." Y/n smiles, but her smile falters when she feels the pain coming from her nose. She places her hand over the bandage, but smiles again. "And thank you for coming to watch, even if the game was a little bloody."
The group laughs.
Before either of them could say anything else, Oscar said, "I know the couple's conversation is good, but..."
Ollie and Y/n raise their heads together and widen their eyes at Piastri. They were unprepared to receive that comment. The group noticed and held back their laughter.
"We could go out and celebrate. Lily and I know a really good pizza place nearby," Oscar finishes and the group's eyes light up.
"Great idea!" Lando says, now taking off the pink glasses he was wearing.
"That's fine by me." Kimi smiles and raises her arms.
Ollie also agrees and then the group's eyes fall on Y/n, who was a little quiet with her hand on her nose. Their eyes crinkle, worried.
Y/n smiles a little and puts her hand on Ollie's shoulder, who was closer to her. Bearman thinking she was about to faint, puts his hand on top of her.
"I think this is a great idea! But... can we go to the hospital first? I think my nose needs stitches." She takes her hand away from her face and they see the blood coming out again.
Ollie is visibly nervous, but also fascinated by her, and his body language gives away that he is impressed and attracted.
They widen their eyes.
"Oh my God. There's still this, right, come on, come on!" Oscar says worriedly and everyone starts to get into the car.
"Let's forget about pizza for a moment." Ollie holds the player's shoulders as she gets into the car.

You're a handball team. (In this case, Germany.)
You've just scored a penalty shot, but you're still down one goal, and there's only about 15 seconds left in the game.
Now as soon as the ball goes in, the clock starts running. France will be required to take the toss – there's a little too much time left for them to just wait it out – but that means they can carry the ball into the center circle, pass the ball from one player standing inside the circle to another standing outside it, hold on to it for five to ten seconds, and the game is over.
So what does France do? Call a time out, which stops the clock with six seconds left. They want to set up who's going to take the toss, who's going to receive it, and start from a dead ball. Okay... maybe not the smartest move, but I understand it. Let everybody take a deep breath and set up the play.
Now click through the cut and watch what actually happens. (Sound on, too.)
