no, they’re not technically mistreating her nor are they too concerned with her weight gain. they’re actually worried about her mental health and confidence and liz herself may have even requested to not have so much attention on her after becoming insecure from reactions to her in previous comebacks. i don’t think it’s that serious in the sense that she’s going to be super hidden in this comeback* but realistically she would probably even go on hiatus if she could. however, starship did think they could twist this to their advantage and get some attention from it, all press is good press sort of thing. they think the sympathy for liz and marketing her as an underdog is actually beneficial to them. so in this sense they are not really looking out for her.

*as in she’s not actually going to be super hidden.

she was genuinely a bit sad but she mostly viewed it in a very objective way from a work perspective. she thought it was a good thing because she didn’t trust jinni to behave and she thought about how there’s less people to share their pay between now but she was upset about the fact that jinni was one of the prettier and more talented members (in her eyes) so she was worried people wouldn’t like the group as much anymore. mostly, she just did her best to be optimistic.

Thoughts: Maxime has a pretty side profile. Their lifts are attractive, but I wasn’t so sure about the exit of the last one. I know it’s supposed to look like that, but it just looked awkward.

Thoughts: this music was depressing and it didn’t help that this program was trying very hard not to be a trainwreck. I love what Lori did with her hair though.

Conti/Maci(ITA)

Thoughts: it took a minute for Sara’s dress to grow on me. The periwinkle color helped.

December Nationals #3

This week, there were even more nationals taking place! This post will detail Finnish, Israeli and Spanish Nationals. As always, I can provide the results if requested. Four Nationals took place this week, as well, but will be done in a separate post! 

Below the cut!

At the Irseali Nationals, Mark Gorodnitsky won his second straight National title. Alexei Bychenko won his seventh National medal, the silver, and Daniel Samohin won his seventh national medal, the bronze. Taylor Morris was the only ladies competitor, and thus won her first National title. Hailey Kops and Evgeni Krasnopolski were the only pairs competitors, and thus won their first National title. Maria Nosovitskaya and Mikahil Nosovitsky won their first National title. Shira Ichilov and Volodymyr Byelikov won their first National medal, the silver.

At the Finnish Nationals, Valter Virtannen won his sixth National title. Makar Suntsev won his first National medal, the silver and Jan Ollikainen won his first National medal, the bronze. Jenni Saarinen won her first National title. Linnea Ceder won her second National medal, the silver, and Emmi Peltonen won her fifth National medal, the bronze.

Milania Vanhanen and Mikhail Akulov were the only pairs competitors, and thus won their first National title. Juulia Turkilla and Matthias Versluis won their seconde National title. Yuka Orihara and Juho Pirnen won their second National medal, the silver.

At the Spanish Nationals, Tomas Llornec Guarino Sabate won his second straight National title by almost fourty points. Pablo Garcia won his second straight silver medal, and Iker Oyarzabal Albas won his first National medal, the bronze. Marian Millares won her second straight National title. Marie Kolly won her first National medal, the silver, and Lucia Ruiz won her second National medal, the bronze.

Dorota Broga and Pedro Betegon Martin were the only pairs competitors and thus won their first National title. Olivia Smart and Adrian Diaz won their third National title. Sara Hurtado and Kirill Khaliavin won their fifth National medal, the silver.

The first of two days of the John Nicks Pairs Challenge took place today.

Chloe Panette and Kieran Thrasher of Canada - the only non-US team on that level - are in the lead after the short program in Junor Pairs. 

In Senior Pairs, Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier of the US have a dominate lead by about ten points over fellow US teams Jessica Calalang and Brian Johnson and Chelsea Liu and Danny O’Shea. The highest ranked non-US team is Alina Pepeleva and Roman Pleshkov of Russia who are fifth.

(The other non-US teams are Hailey Kops and Evgeni Krasnopolski of Israel and Greta Crafoord and John Crafoord of Sweden. Chloe Choinard and Livio Mayr of Austria were entered, but withdrew.)

Europeans is the last major competition for European skaters before Worlds. This particular competition sparks the last competition for 6-time European Champion and Olympic Bronze Medalist Javier Fernandez of Spain.

There have been a few withdrawals:

In the Ladies event, Loena Hendrickx withdrew, as she is still recovering from a back injury. 

In the pairs event, Natalia Zabiiako and Alexander Enbert withdrew due to Enbert’s medical issues, and they were replaced by Daria Pavliuchenko and Denis Khodykin. Cleo Hamon and Denis Strekalin of France withdrew. Hailey Ester Kops and Artem Tsoglin of Israel withdrew. Annika Hocke and Reuben Blommaert of Germany withdrew.

Beautiful Triple Twist, but the exit could have been smoother. Mistakes on the side by sides from both of them it looked like. Once again mistakes from both on the side by sides. Nice throw. Nice death spiral. Nice pair spin. A bit forward on the throw. Nice lift. Miss on that lift, didn’t get her up all the way and they had to abort. Looked like the timing was off. Nice lift. 

There were some really nice elements from Hailey Kops and Evgeni Krasnopolski of Israel. There were some definite mistakes, and it wasn’t their best day for sure.

Solid Triple Twist. She fell on the side by sides. She fell on the throw. Nice death spiral. Nice position on the lift, but a bit awkward coming out. Solid step sequence.  Solid side by side spins.

That was a rough program from Hailey Kops and Evgeni Krasnopolski of Israel - a rough day for Hailey. Here’s to doing better in the free!

44.45 and into third place behind Kovalev/Kovalev and Holichenko/Darenskyi.
