(requested by anonymous)
The Doctor was still in her office despite the late hour, trying to cram enough effort into the dying light to largely clear her day tomorrow. Some of the girls had made plans to go to Lungmen, and it had been awhile since she’d been on something other than business-
“Eris,” a voice crept in from outside. There was only one person that could be. “Burning the candle at both ends will leave your hand in flames in your position.”
“Can I help you, Flamebringer?” She glanced up from her papers, and nearly flinched; she’d forgotten how sneaky he could be when desired.
He loomed over her, his canines flashing in the light. “No.”
“I see.” Eris continued typing. “Unfortunately, I’m rather busy at the moment, so if you don’t mind-”
“I grow more concerned with each passing day that your memory of our first encounter has not returned to you.”
She sighed, saved her work (realizing this was the end of her shift one way or another), and shifted in her seat to save him more directly. “I know, but you refuse to help in that regard, so I don’t know what you’re expecting-”
“Here.” Flamebringer handed her a broken hilt. “Recovering this from the wreckage I left on that battlefield was no small undertaking. You should have appreciated this weapon more; perhaps then your memory would still be intact.”
“What are you...wait. I know this hilt. What happened to the blade?”
He smiled. “It broke against its last opponent’s hide. You overcame them in the end with naught but the hilt, as expected, but it seems scavengers carried the carrion-blade away from the battlefield.”
“Flamebringer, I…we weren’t enemies, were we?” Eris traced the broken edge with her hand; anyone else’s skin might have been shredded, but this ruined sword remembered its old master even now and refused to harm her. “Because no matter what power I may have possessed before, it’s been locked away by my injury-”
“Eris, your new position has made you soft, but you were never meant for the life you pursued. Roses may have thorns, but your blossom should never have had to bear them. If only I had known my true strength back then, I...”
She stood, hilt still in hand, and walked around her desk. “Flamebringer, are you okay?”
“It’s nothing, Doc- Eris.” He shook his head, attempting to block the first real expression of his emotions since they’d been reunited.
“Oh...That’s a no, then.” She sighed, setting the hilt on the desk behind her. “Can you give me just a little hint? I’m sorry that just giving me my old sword isn’t eno- wait.”
Flamebringer’s eyes lit up. “Eris?”
“Wait a minute, this...I broke Adamant on your sword, not a-”
“You remember!” He plucked her from the ground and spun in place. “At last, the phantoms of the past return to haunt you.”
Eris reached out and rubbed his hair. “Flame, I never said I remembered everything...but I remember enough now to say that two things need to happen.”
“A thousand armies could not halt my advance at your request.”
“No, but your stubborn ass might,” she smiled. “First, the one you’re going to hate: I need you to let Kal’tsit and them treat your Oripathy.”
He grimaced and stopped spinning, churning the blood-soaked neurons into a focused analysis of all the possible alternatives. “What possible reason would I concede to that for?”
“So that you don’t die before you’ve trained me back to my peak.”
“...One blade is broken, the other lost to time.” Flamebringer stared into her face, searching for the logic. “Your time on the battlefield has ended, my petal blossom.”
Eris laughed. “I know where I left Emancipator, and Rhodes has the resources I need to locate Adamant’s sharper half. Why would you want me cooped up in this office, anyway? The only reason I’m here so late as it is is to get out of here early tomorrow.”
“Your safety, Eris, has always mattered more to me than your skill with a pair of blades...even if the latter was what drew me to you in the first place. A woman such as yourself shouldn’t have to stain their hands with blood until they’re black.”
“I reached that milestone before meeting you, Flame.” She shook her head. “Honestly, just let me have a hurricane of blood every now and again, why don’t you?”
He set her back on the ground. “Forgive me. I’ve missed the woman I met all those years ago so much, I forgot myself. If you’ll excuse me, Er-”
“Either you call me Doctor like everyone else,” she crossed her arms, “or you teach me how to fight again, go get treatment, and keep calling me Eris.”
“An ultimatum of such caliber?”
Eris sighed. “You really think I’m going to let you off easy after letting me think I didn’t have a husband for, what, a year now? Two years? How long has it been, anyway?”
“...Three years, seven months, two weeks, three days, seventeen hours and forty-seven minutes since we were separated by the meteor storm.”
“And after bringing all these memories back, you want me to sit here and push papers while you’re getting to bathe your blades in ruby-red on the daily? Not a chance!” She brandished the hilt as if it were the full blade, a rush of euphoria coming over her. “That’s what I’ve been missing. So, love, what’s it going to be?”
Flamebringer reached into his jacket pocket, tore the ring that had been sown into the lining from it, burned the remaining fabric around it, and set it back on his finger. “You say I need to speak with Kal’tsit to begin treatment?”
“I’ll arrange everything, don’t you worry!”
“Likely for the best...” He reached out his hand to her. “Now will you please come to bed?”
Eris leapt into his arms, the hilt still in hand and deftly maneuvered to avoid damaging its master’s beloved. “Now that I know it won’t be empty, I’ll never work late again.”
“You promise?”
“That’s a threat, love~”
“Just as good.”

Flamebringer is literally smoking hot and steamy now. Thanks Doc, now he's everyone else's problem-

-never mind, operators and staff have actively fainted due to see SilverAsh his open white shirt clinging to his body due to being soaking wet.
Have fun getting yelled at to get them to stop being a distraction on camera. Kalsit is going to be so mad while Amiya is going to ask how and why did this happen!
